Everyday in California, at least one person is a victim of a homicide; at least one woman is a victim of a raptist; and countless victims of fraud, theft and burglaries.

This is true in almost every state every day. Last year nearly 60 people died daily to violent crimes and it wasn't isolated to just California. Same is true for rapes, other crimes and corruption.

I sure feel for the family of the little girl. My daughter disappeared once, and it nearly killed my wife and I. She was 14, and they found her sitting in a car (stolen by her boyfriend) in a park near Detroit at 3:00 AM. When we got the call, we we thinking the worst. A four hour drive to Detroit at three in the morning was no fun, but we got her back alive. The ride back with a sullen and irritated teenage girl was pure hell!! I hope that's all that has happened to her. Rebellious runaway.

As far as a resurrection, please. People have been saying that for thousands of years, every time something bad happens. Lets stick to reality.

I live in Detroit and lived in California for a short time believe me Cali is worse. I don't know why anyone would choose to raise kids in that state.

I hate when a few towns in an entire state take over people's perceptions of the state. The state of NY is not the same as NYC. The state of Michigan is not the same as Detroit. For the past year I have read about missing women - Holly Bobo, Lauren Speirer, etc. and THOSE missing women hailed from the midwest and southern states. And let's not forget about the Long Island serial killer, as yet unsolved. Or the women jogger in Montana who was murdered. Shall I mention the Susan Powell case? Utah, Washington?? Any takers here? Care to explain the geographical relevance in those nasty cases? It seems to be a pattern on this site, that at every opportumity, some know it all bashes California, quickly followed by some knuckle dragger salivating about the sexual preferences of inmates, or why President Obama is to blame. California is a heavily populated state, so yes, things happen here and turn up in the news, but the amount of bashing that goes on is unbelievable. There are many residents of California who stay here because life is fairly good, actually. But if it makes some people happier believing that California is sinking, whatever - we'll shrug and breathe our clean air and gaze at the sunset on the Pacific.

I also want to add that it is good a suspect has been identified, kudos to the police for sticking with this case, and that I hope the family get some news soon about their loved one.

I truly feel for this family, most especially if the young girl is dead. However, I can't help but think about that description of her on the missing sheet. She was carrying a JUICY purse. People when are you going to realize that you shouldn't dress (or allow them to dress themselves) girls like that? sad thing is, she probably met him on facebook or twitter, google plus, whatever. a "friend" of a "friend". our children are so vulnerable on those sites. i know she's 15 and within the age facebook suggests but i think it opens the doors to complete strangers. for a beautiful 15 year old girl, he could have said the right things, complimented her, etc and she innocently mentions school and the bus ride, whatever. that's all a predator needs. kids are so trusting and a 21 year old man knows what to say to a young girl to get her attention and make her feel special. i may be wrong. maybe just a random passerby but i doubt it.

Do you see a pattern here? [1] they arrested a suspect from public outrage.. [2] found no blood but are mum on other physical evidence in the suspect's vehicle (possibly because it's weaker than the lack of blood) THEN [3] a red jetta that witnesses described as on the scene was discovered. Not telling us if the vw belonged to Garcia-Torres. They then present a mug shot, tell us he's had (minor) run-ins with the law and expect us to react (because of the potential heinousness of the alleged crime). My heart goes out to this child and her family but please, let's not have another Zimmerman/Martin fiasco.. Wait for more conclusive evidence THEN weigh the situation.. We don't need more smoke screens to take away from what our g'ment is doing behind our backs. If this guy did it, he's caught and if the ADA has a strong enough case, he will get the justice he deserves.. That he won't on up to it has to do with the details of whether he's actually guilty or not. No verbal vigilantes, please.

It is really depressing to know we have individuals who are such huge losers that they have to resort to attacking people who are physically weaker in order to feel good. Getting off by forcefully inflicting pain is more than just taboo. It's sick.

The only reason it took over a month to nab this guy is because they needed to identify him first. They had Zimmerman on the night the shooting occurred. So I think your theory on automatically folding to public pressure in the Martin case is a bit of a stretch...

No good detective is going to lay out all the evidence for you & me at the moment of arrest. That is what a hearing is for. If they are still collecting evidence but have enough for a warrant, they are going to use it! Showing your hand before you need to would be stupid and it's naive of you to think they owe us a full explanation. Wouldn't you rather they keep some secrets and not risk jeopardizing what may still be out there? Or do you just want an opportunity to play devil's advocate? Yeah.... thought so

If it is him then I hope justice is swift and appropriate but with the little info msnbc actually gave us, I'm holding my opinion until something more substantial appears.. I am not going to ride on rumors. I do have sympathy for the family of this young lady and hope she comes back to them unharmed.

Rick ~~ IF this person is found to be guilty of kidnapping and murdering this young girl, then I hope California gives him the DEATH PENALTY. I don't know if they have the death penalty, but whatever the law can dish out to anyone who is found guilty of this crime, I hope they throw it at him (or whoever is found guilty), with both hands.

I can't even imagine how horrible and painful this is for this young girls family. Of course, the suspect has a family too, and I can't imagine what his mother might be going through at this time. Criminals like this do not need to be taking up space, and breathing air. I am not really for the death penalty, but I do believe that it may have a place, under certain circumstances. When is OUR goverment going to do something about these animals preying on our Children? My ex-wifes 19 year old neice was found murdered and raped in HER home that she just bought. The man that killed her could be paroled in as few as 8 years. So sad. My prayers and thoughts are with the family. It's like 2+2 never equals 4, a criminal gets the death sentence and (by law) can delay punishment for decades, sucking up the air that should have been their victim's.. 3 o 5 means 1 to 1 1/2 behind bars.. 10 years means 3 yeas but if the law wants to make an example they give a pot smoker 2, 3 or 5 years plus ONE day and they remain incarcerated for the duration.. But instead of using this tactic for all crimes, making all crimes an example. they instead pronounce life in prison but can be paroled after 35 years (less on good behavior) They get life without the possibility of parole but the states Governor at any time can remand the sentence or if the person has been found to soon die, they can release him thru humanitarian efforts even though he may live free for years.. If the prosecution fails to prove their case and the perp is found not guilty, that's it.. no more charges BUT if found guilty, multiple attempts to have it reversed.. Yes, our judicial system favors the predator in all situations and use example tactics on their favorite crimes.. Thank goodness we've been conditioned in to believing that it may not be perfect (an understatement) but it's the best system in the world (an overstatement).

This morning on the news they said there was forensic evidence on her purse and clothes from the purse linking him. I guess they found his DNA on her possessions so that would make him a likely suspect. Clearly his DNA was already in the system making him have a criminal past.

Let's not ruin a person's life before we know for sure that he's the culprit. You assume that the Jetta and Garcia-Torres's car were one and the same.. This was not implied.. Why would they state that they searched his car then report a VW Jetta being identified as if they were separate reports? THIS is what causes misunderstandings, rumors , innuendos and hate impulses. Do your homework, don't just look at the pictures.. Suspect? Absolutely (in order to explain his DNA on the purse and clothes).. Investigate further? Indeed as up to now he's their only lead.. To arrest him 'out of concern for public safety' is wrong! It relays the wrong message.. It would be like arresting you because you found a pile of clothes and a purse on the side of the road and searched (for what ever reason) the purse then left the scene (either with stolen money or you didn't find any id and just thought it was tossed out on the side of the road).. That this scenario is outlandish isn't any less legitimate than incarcerating a person of interest because they have little evidence and no other leads. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending a 'potential' murderer' I'm only doing what should be done if it were you they were accusing.. Waiting for the evidence to PROVE his involvement. Karlos & Creek Dog ~~ I too believe that this young girl's life has been taken from her by the MONSTER who abducted her. WHO that is, we just don't know. We'll have to wait and see what kind of evidence they have against this current suspect. One thing I do hope, is that WHOEVER is guilty of this crime, is the one actually being prosecuted, and whoever is found guilty of this crime should be prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law.

I can not imagine the strength it would take to not implode having a child abducted. The overwhelming sense of helplessness the parents must feel.

I also can not imagine the anger and hatred that a person must have within themselves to perp a crime of this nature. You do not have to have a body in order for charges of murder to be brought against you. HOWEVER from what I understand, there has to be some kind of EVIDENCE to tie the suspect to the demise of said victim. What kind of evidence, I don't know.

The article says she was on her way to school. She left her home on foot to catch the bus. Very sad story.

Did you read the article? They found her purse and cell phone in a ditch near her home. They would have contacted the school first thing to see if she was there or if anyone had seen her.

When I first heard this story, my immediate impression was that she knew the person who abducted her. I think she was duped into getting in the vehicle with the perpetrator. Maybe she met him in the store, on line etc. He could have possibly made an arrangement with her to drive her to school, flirting with her. Could be a friend or relative of someone she knows, and she thought he was OK. There are many scenarios, and the police are not giving up the information, which is probably the best thing, because if this current suspect is NOT the guilty monster................I just hope whoever they end up prosecuting is the REAL PERP.

I believe the cops must have some really good and compelling evidence to arrest this guy without a body having been found, I think we really need to wait for all that evidence to come out in trial before we jump to any hard conclusions. California is not a bad place to live. The SF Bay Area is arguably the best place in the world to live and raise a family (and definitely the best place among large metropolitan areas). Santa Clara County has the lowest crime rate of any county it's size (or even close to), in the U.S. They almost certainly got the right guy, simply based on the DNA evidence. His race has nothing to do with his actions. Rather, he saw a hottie everyday on his commute that he wanted, and knew there was no other way to get her. Scumbag extraordinaire.
