DEA agents investigated for hiring prostitutes in Colombia

Three U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents are under investigation after a Secret Service agent said the trio had hired prostitutes in Colombia, Justice Department officials confirmed to NBC News.

But the allegation of their activity was said to be separate from the incident involving Secret Service personnel, who also were in Cartagena, Colombia, for President Barack Obama's visit in mid-April and hired prostitutes, according to NBC News.

"The Drug Enforcement Administration was provided information from the Secret Service unrelated to the Cartagena hotel Secret Service incident, which DEA immediately followed up on, making DEA employees available to be interviewed by the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General," a DEA spokesman said. "DEA takes allegations of misconduct very seriously and will take appropriate personnel action, if warranted, upon the conclusion of the OIG investigation."

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, the top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said in a statement that she had been briefed about the involvement of two or more DEA agents on May 4 but was asked to withhold public comment until the agents could be taken out of Colombia and questioned.

"It's disturbing that we may be uncovering a troubling culture that spans more than one law enforcement agency," Collins said.

Rep. King says he won't meet with Colombian prostitute at center of Secret Service scandal

According to CBS, the Justice Department is working with the DEA, the U.S. Secret Service, the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service on the investigation.

Unlike the Secret Service, the DEA has permanent offices in Colombia.

Prostitution is legal in Colombia.

So a DEA agent goes to dinner and a beautiful, young waitress provides him service.

Afterwards, he goes to a hotel and a beautiful, young prostitute provides him service.

Someone from the secret Service is getting even with the DEA. Who cares? They all want to play the part of "James Bond" when in reality they all are just a bunch of pathetic overweight and horny bureaucrats.

Haven't tried the Bunny Ranch in Nevada yet have ya? They have their own cable TV Promo show.

Does that mean the wife can watch her husband make out with a prostitute on cable?

Unlike the Secret Service, the DEA has permanent offices in Colombia. Prostitution is legal in Colombia.

So, a DEA agent who works in Colombia has a weekend off. He/she gets involved with a prostitute on his/her "down time" in a country where prostitution is legal and then gets slammed by his/her superiors or is fired by someone in D.C.

I wonder if this investigation is going to target agents in other countries: Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, to name a few in the Western Pacific.

Just what else is going to be controlled by our "elites" in D.C. ?

The DEA needs to be eliminated and the failed War on Drugs needs to be declared lost... End the reign of the DEA and drug prohibition and restore the "Pursuit of Liberty" right granted to citizens by our Constitution. We don't need you, your laws or your religion to tell us what we can smoke, drink or eat.

I just don't understand why so many Americans feel the need to concern themselves with other people's affairs. Legalize pot, drugs, prostitution and gambling... this is the "true" nanny state.

Hate to point out to people that the DEA may have paid the prostitute for information - and this is done around the world. After all - the drug runners and criminals don't usually hang out in church (except in the USA). But hey - why let reality get in the way of a good story that slams a governmental agency.

Ido and Mr Binky: So, if it is "legal" there and that is OK, would it be OK for DEA agents to smoke dope in countries where it is legal as well. Oh, wait a minute, they probably do. As long as marijuana is illegal in this country, we are going to have cartels and murder in Latin America in support of our pot users. And we will have DEA agents in those countries having a party or getting killed as well. Legalize marijuana as 50% of the country now supports (http://www.gallup.com/poll/150149/Record-High-Americans-Favor-Legalizing-Marijuana.aspx).

It's also amazing how many people don't know that prostitution and pot has been decriminalized in Canada. Medical use of marijuana in Canada is fully legal. Boy when is the US going to get it, neither one (marijuana or prostitution) should be regulated so the government can tax it. Pot is a freely growing so why should it be taxed if one wants to grow it in their yard or house. The main reason these may not be legalized is due to not really being able to fully tax it. You know if these darn politicians or big corps can't get all the money then you will not see it happen. It is sickening that they restrict medical use of marijuana or even worse the growing of hemp. Hemp won't be legal either as Dupont would stand to lose to much money due to lack of sales in nylon and poly.

Sick part of this is Holder was probably holding their johnsons during this and they were getting paid our tax $$. Just think when PIGS like Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli (Fullerton, CA Police) MURDERED Kelly Thomas they were getting paid for months after the murder and our tax money has paid for their Police Union Lawyers. Eff them they should lose everything just like we would, Heck we would be stuck so for back in the prison no one would ever see us again

You guys do realize that these agents were probably hired by the Bush administration. Right? Or are you so dense to believe that an agent could work his way into the DEA in just 3 years?

Oh wait, you like to accuse Eric Holder of corruption based on what those under him do without his knowledge. Never mind because I would be wasting my time debating with people that have a mental handicap.

How soon we forget the corrupt administration that preceded the present administration then try to lay all the corruption on the present administration. How shallow.

Larry, havent forgotten the corruption of Bush but that doesnt mean you ignore obamas corruption. Both are corrupt. Thats why we should stop voting party lines and vote for people based on character and policy. Ron Paul is as good an example of integrity as youll ever find in politics, but people dont tend to vote for him because they dont understand his unorthodox policies and because the media wont give him coverage. Those two things alone should be reason enough to vote for him.

So, talking about Mr. Obama's "squeaky clean" administration, there are 41 of his White House staffers and some of their aides who have NOT PAID THEIR BACK IRS TAXES.

Now why hasn't the DOJ or the Secretary of the Treasury gone after these folks ?

All room assignments will include the hostess of your choice. Tipping is optional (but we would suggest it, otherwise it's on the National Inquirer!). Since Florida held it's primary early, they will be punished by being assigned the ugly women. Security should not be a problem as we have both Secret Service and DEA on-site for protection.

OH please unless she was a sex slave there is nothing immoral about prostitution, if she chooses that profession its her prerogative. It is legal there and they should not be punished if they didn't break any local laws. There is no law in the US that states we must obey all Local American laws when traveling abroad, otherwise most visitors to Amsterdam would be arrested reentering the US.

Truth - The president is an elected official and therefore DOES represent the people who elected him. The DEA agent is an employee of the federal governement and on his off duty time represents only himself. Prostitution is legal in Columbia, he did nothing illegal and its none of our business what he/they do on their off duty time. Time to put the prude police back in the barn.

They may have a permission slip from their significant others. I remember in the early 70's as a young man I was in the Army in Germany. You don't think maybe I went to the Frankfurt's Sex Inn, Spiral Staircase, nor Crazy Sexy do you. Uh, well, hmmm, depends on your definition of "IS". It's not like all of our past presidents have been PERFECT.

Just a smoke screen to take our eyes off of a government that no longer has to answer to the people.

'We Care-We Care' they scream as they throw a few of their own from the lower levels and hope the sheep go back out to the pasture.

Sad to say, we are the architect of our own demise.

I remember orientation for a security clearance in the 60's which concerned blackmailing. Homosexuals who happened to get a clearance were particularly vulnerable to blackmailing and a threat to national security. Now, 50 years later, the threat of outing the heterosexual activity of virulent males appears to be the new blackmailable threat. A lot of government officials running the Byzantine empire were eunuchs. Is that what we want to represent our country abroad? Let 'em do what they want to do in time off (don't let the bishop know that they carry rubbers). Personally, I'd druther drink tea and play a game of Hearts in the evening. But who would want such a wimp representing our country overseas?

Hey, TRUTH, like there are no STDs in the US or HIV? Come on! It's all over the world. Not just in Columbia! Get real!

Shame! One expects this from the SS! But to involve the DEA in this is ludicrous! It's a frame up.

Most of the people who are making these ventures such a critical issue are the sedentary, often overweight female pencil pushers behind closed doors of government office buildings, whose biggest workplace responsibility is keeping their pencils sharpened.

Or someone else's pencil, so who are they to talk? And I wonder just how many agent's lives are going to be put in danger, and investigations put in risk of exsposer while they are checking this out? All because of, "Well if we got caught you can't do it either wwwwaaaaa". We really do need some grown ups running this country.

Remeniscent of a cigar in the Oval Office?

Even pencils aren't relevant to this case.

These guys are in the longest running, dirtiest, most corrupt, and least popular war this country (perhaps the world) has ever had. And it NEVER lets up. How can anyone be a part of that and stay completely clean? If dipping the old wick once in a while far from home is as bad as it gets we should be grateful. Just my opinion. And oh yeh, get real SS. Your house is still pretty fragile to be throwing rocks.

1842 news from Afganistan: Massacre of Elphinstone's army

On 1 January 1842, following some unusual thinking by Elphinstone, which may have had something to do with the poor defensibility of the cantonment, an agreement was reached that provided for the safe exodus of
the British garrison and its dependants from Afghanistan. Five days later, the withdrawal began. The departing British contingent numbered around 16,000, of which about 4,500 were military personnel, and over 12,000 were civilian camp followers. The military force consisted mostly of Indian units and one British battalion, 44th Regiment of Foot.

They were attacked by Ghilzai warriors as they struggled through the snowbound passes. The evacuees were killed in huge numbers as they made their way down the 30 miles (48 km) of treacherous gorges and passes lying along the Kabul River between Kabul and Gandamak, and were massacred at the Gandamak pass before a survivor reached the besieged garrison at Jalalabad. The force had been reduced to fewer than forty men by a withdrawal from Kabul that had become, towards the end, a running battle through two feet of snow. The ground was frozen, the men had no shelter and had little food for weeks. Of the remaining weapons possessed by the survivors, there were approximately a dozen working muskets, the officers' pistols and a few swords. The remnants of the 44th were all killed except Captain James Souter, Sergeant Fair and seven soldiers who were taken prisoner. The only Briton to reach Jalalabad was Dr. William Brydon.

                                            [Vistory might still be possible]

In 1843, the British army chaplain Rev. G.R. Gleig, a survivor, wrote that it was,

"a war begun for no wise purpose, carried on with a strange mixture of rashness and timidity, brought to a close after suffering and disaster, without much glory attached either to the government which directed, or the great body of troops which waged it. Not one benefit, political or military, was acquired with this war. Our eventual evacuation of the country resembled the retreat of an army defeated”.

As the ‘rest of the story’ developed:

In 1878, the British invaded again, beginning the Second Anglo-Afghan War, which went on until 1880, when, . . . having achieved all their other objectives, the British withdrew.

[The lesson of all this is for Mr. Obama to draw.]

If they are not using our tax money to pay for them, "dating" them on their off time, and these girls are not minors wtf is the real problem. Prostitution is legal and very common in Columbia, this is the only way many can support their babies and older family members.

Frankly what these girls charge is a lot less than most pay on a normal date in the states all in hopes of getting laid.

All this bs is just a waste of time and money to look good in an election year. There are a lot more serious problems that our law makers should spend their time on.

What's the problem? STDS are the problem. In a perfect world without stds I would have no problem at all with it. However I found it disgusting that people would risk getting an STD from a random columbian hooker and then possibly take it back to their wife or gf in the states. I mean there's things called AIDS and Herpes and they're permanent life destroying problems without any cure.

Hey Truth.... did you hear about Condoms? or about washing up right afterwards? or passing on going all the way if the girl shows any sores? or doesn't smell hygienic?

With all of those things in place, the health risk is much lower than a car accident!

Crikey! You would think we are back int he 50's with the Prudes and Nosy Parkers running every one elses life that seems to be having fun and taking pleasure in life.
