All this guy did was state the uncomfortable truth and for that he was forced out of his job. This is why things are not getting any better. I just finished my masters in Criminal Justice ( to go along with half a decade as a law enforcement officer) and statiscically speaking blacks make up an overepresented population in American prisons which is to say that they are 12% of the population and roughly 25% of the prison population, currently hispanics are 25% of the population and 25% of the prison population (proportinate) and whites make up the other 50% of the prison population, therefore the fact is whites are the largest percent of the inmate population throughout the USA. Of course these number vary state to state. I'm not able to post links so google "prison population in USA" the census bureau and or the federal bureau of prisons ( for whom I used to work as a contract employee) and see for yourself. My problem is with the people that are defending him knowing full well his statements were racist. Doesn't matter whether or not you believe them as true. I grew up in the early 60's in southern Ohio. I was a ten year old boy when the only black family I ever saw was run out of our small redneck town immediately. I felt so sorry for the young black male of my age that seemed so down to earth and eager to join in our everyday activities. His hair and skin color was unlike anybody I had ever known but I knew that he and I could have become friends. I was called a @!$%#-lover and chastised by all but my best friends when I asked why this happened.

5 years later, we were forced to move to the big city of Columbus for financial reasons. The culture shock was immediate among my own race first. Young teenage boys yearned for the back of the class to draw less attention to shooting spit balls and other mischievous behavior where I came from. Young teenage city boys clamored for the front row of seats to brag about looking up the teacher's dress. That was as disgusting to a country boy as a good friend bragging about looking up your own mother's dress. We were every bit as horny as the horniest city boy, but teachers, older sisters and Mothers were strictly off limits to all but the most perverted among us.

The amount of blacks in our city schools was another culture shock. The hostility they expressed against all whites measured the same hostility that I had witnessed so many years ago against a single black family. The hostilities during the riots of the civil rights struggle led to many parts of the city where a white face best never be seen on the wrong side of town. Where my little elementary school aged little sisters were beaten and attacked simply because they were white. Where North High School officials threatened to ban me from school because of mid-length side-burns while all my black schoolmates wore mustaches, goatees and huge afro haircuts. It was explained to me that North High School upheld a tradition that all students wear short hair with no facial hair due to school tradition except those in musical bands. I then asked if the 50% of the student body composed of blacks who all wore facial hair were members of a band? My honest query was met with drawn and grim lips from all of the adult faces at this long table as I was immediately expelled from school as a racist.

I moved to a small town on the west coast of Florida in 1970. No family and only one friend from the past. My new surroundings left me yearning to make new friends. I loved to shoot pool and frequented a quiet local bar for a couple of cold beers and few games of pool after work. A few weeks in, I heard the normally docile barmaid shout, "You know we don't allow your kind in here! Don't let the door hit you in the butt". I looked up just as a young black man hurried out the door. My immediate thought (after years of experience of black aggression) was, "Alright, this is my kind of town!".

My sense of shame for those thoughts is as strong these 40 years later as it was the instant I first had such dark thoughts. He was most likely a young stranger seeking the same comforts I sought when I first entered that seemingly friendly local bar (I soon learned that a local black would have never make that mistake at that time). The warm southern hospitality that greeted this obviously green young Yankee was replaced by extreme hostility based solely only on the color of his skin.

I settled in this community. Started a business and a family. My two adult sons now operate the business due to my declining health. Many of our best friends and dearest customers are black. We don't see people that way. There are good and not so good whites, blacks and the ever increasing Hispanic population. The best feature of business ownership is to weed out the troublemakers and encourage your loyal customers. Both come in all races and national origin.

Judging from the hatefilled rants on this board, I have little doubt about the bigotry that pervades in this country, south and north, east and west. I picked on the south solely because I know enough southern people who still keep harping on "the south shall rise again" philosophy, and are fantasizing about the past by their collections of black "mammy" dolls. I know the sentiment that underpins their hatred for "liberals" is based upon the fact that they blame them for promoting civil rights which led to the freedoms that all minorities have benefited from, freedoms that were enshrined in the constitution but they were denied of.

There is a problem in the black community. It is the disintegration of the once strong and proud black family. There is no longer a father in the home. Children are being raised by single mothers, often the children are from different fathers. The black males have very high drop out rates from school. They are joining gangs in order to survive in an increasingly violent black community. This is a serious problem. A strong, loving family environment with a father in the home is central to the healthy development of children, in particular male children. The words Traina used to describe the problem, in particular because he is white, could have been improved upon...but denying there is a problem by declaring any discussion of the problem as racist is the problem. Heal yourselves black community if you don't want a white person bringing up the issue...it is your neighborhood and your leaders should be addressing this problem.

I have a friend from the Army, who is more like a brother to me, who is black and from New Orleans, and he will not let friends, family, or anyone else he cares about visit him at his home. He is working on getting out of there asap.

I certainly will not say these things are racial, but in certain areas of the country, some races are much more violent as a group than in other parts of the country. This is just my opinion. I have come across some extremely violent white groups in Virginia, blacks in NO, and violent hispanics in CA, much more than in other places in the country. I think hate and racism can be more affluent and actually taught and passed on in some regions more than others. As a licensed school psychologist, there is an expectation of professionalism and trust he has thoroughly failed to meet.

These postings definitely indicate a lack of professionalism. While what he expresses off the job technically is not relevant to his employment, the attitude can't help but corrode his effectiveness on the job.

On the other hand, any critical remark about patterns of unacceptable behavior or performance by blacks is now automatically defined as "racist." The concept has been banalized and cheapened to the point where it is meaningless.

So what we have here is a crude and ignorant rant that in its crudeness compromises any validity that the observation has. But make no mistake....the observation is valid and it does not serve us to try to sweep it under the rug.

It was far too complex of a situation for him to consider the culture of the city that entices people into violence and crime when they fail to have access to equal opportunity. As a school official, and particularly as a school PSYCHOLOGIST, his job relies heavily on trust from the student(s) he's trying to serve. The actual truth is that most crime is intra racial, thats a big word that means within the same race. Black on Black, White on White ect. It isn't about what HAPPENED, it is an issue of what is still happening! Blacks are over-represented in poverty and crime and under-represented in situations of success and opportunity. I remember living down there and always dredding to look at the morning news to see how many people had been murdered the previous night in Orleans Parish. Jefferson Parrish is located next to Orleans and is only about a 15 minute drive from bourbon Street or the 9th Ward. The locals knew that Jefferson Parrish was totally different in that the crime level was a fraction of that in New Orleans. The reason was that Jefferson had a protector in the form of Sheriff Harry Lee. He ruled the Parrish with an Iron fist on crime. You could walk the streets in most areas except where certain neighborhoods overlapped with Orleans. I was glad I lived there instead of Orleans.

I remember one night watching the 10:00 pm news. There was a story where a car wash located about a mile from Charity hospital captured on video an attempted murder where four men carrying AK47s were "sneaking" in a crouched running manner and in full frontal view of the security cameras. Their black faces were in full view of the cameras. They stopped on camera and took aim at two men who were standing at a near bus stop. They opened fire and dozens of AK rounds flew towards the intended victims. The result was that only one round hit a victim. He ran with his attacker in pursuit. He made it to the hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound. Looking at the almost live feed of the video, you might have thought it was taken in some country in Africa or Europe. however, it was in good old New Orleans, USA. This was well before Katrina and before Harry Lee died. I am sure Harry Lee is well missed. The man should not have been asked to resign for being honest, no matter what bl--k organization should get their nickers in a twist.

Two days ago a story was in the news for the Dallas area where a young black male robbed a convientstore, and then set the elderly lady employee on fire as he left. I know there have been others on blogs who have said they had friends who were black and that is also true of me. My best friend was a man by the name of Roosevelt (Rosey) Henley from N. Chicago, Illinois. Up until his death a few weeks ago Rosey and I had bee friends for over 30 years. We went many places together but the biggest ones were our travels with the VFW. We went to meetings, conventions, dinners, fundraisers, and all things VFW. If someone didn't see Rosey with me I would be questioned as to where he was. We shopped together. We shared holidays together. We visited at each others homes. Shared many a breakfast, lunch, or dinner together. When I moved south we still kept in touch and when ever I got a chance when I got back into his area, we always got together.

Unfortunately being retired and on a fixed income I could not make his funeral. I will miss him until the day I die but know that one day we will meet again which will turn into a long visit over our lives again.

One thing I will always remeber about my friend is he had little as he was not well educated. He did all our cleanup at our VFW Post and he was the best we ever had and he did this into his 70s until he could do it no more. Never complained even as he told me many a story of life as a black person thoughout his life. Some good and some bad. He often lamented on how the youth had little respect in his community and never seemed to want to do anything but be involved in criminal activity. Never tried to better themselves.

It is sad to see in this country of ours that has moved forward even though we haven't got all the way there, that there are to many who look backwards instead of pushing forward. Maybe one day this will change. I sure hope so.
