Although gay rights and anti-hate groups responded with outrage when a North Carolina pastor called for gays and lesbians to be fenced in so they eventually die off, he was greeted with a standing ovation by his church members when he approached the pulpit, the Hickory Record reported.
“I appreciate all the support,” Pastor Charles Worley told the 100 or so congregants at Providence Road Baptist Church near Maiden, N.C., on Sunday, according to the Record. Several members stood and spoke out; others threw up their hands in support of their pastor.
“I’ve got a King James Bible,” Worley said, according to the Record. “I’ve been a preacher for 53 years. Do you think I’m going to bail out on this?”
Demonstrators wanted him to do just that.
More than 1,000 people gathered in front of the Justice Center in nearby Newton waving signs with messages such as "Will God judge me for loving or hating?" and "Don't Fence Me In," Reuters reported. Some people dressed in rainbow colors, and entire families chanted "Preach Love Not Hate."
The protest was in response to a sermon the 71-year-old Worley delivered on May 13, Mother’s Day, apparently in response to President Barack Obama’s public endorsement a few days earlier of same-sex marriage. Just a day before Obama’s announcement, North Carolina voters approved by a considerable margin a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and same-sex civil unions in their state.
In the sermon, an animated Worley told the congregation of his independent Baptist church:
“I figured a way out, a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers but I couldn’t get it pass the Congress – build a great big large fence, 50 or a hundred mile long. Put all the lesbians in there, fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals. And have that fence electrified so they can’t get out.
“And you know what? In a few years they will die out. You know why? They can’t reproduce. If a man ever has a young'un, praise God he will be the first.”
Worley continued, his voice rising: “I tell ya right now, somebody said, 'Who you gonna vote for?' I ain’t gonna vote for a baby killer and a homosexual lover! You said, ‘Did you mean to say that?’ You better believe I did!”
Worley’s speech went viral after the Catawba Valley Citizens Against Hate grabbed a clip from the church’s web site and posted it on YouTube, Reuters reported.
But Worley may have hindered the efforts of those who champion his cause, Jay Michaelson, author of “Gay vs. God? The Religious Case for Equality” wrote on Huffington Post. He said that Worley’s comments are “undermining the efforts of more moderate gay-bashers like the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins to disguise anti-gay bias as something other than hatred.”
Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United, also condemned Pastor Worley’s statements.
“Pastor Worley's vicious and mean-spirited assault on gays and lesbians is bad enough,” Lynn said. “His pulpit command that people not vote for President Obama is a violation of federal tax law. I urge the IRS to act swiftly to investigate this matter."
A religious watchdog group has filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service, asking that it investigate the church’s tax-exempt status. Federal law prohibits non-profit groups from endorsing candidates.
David Freidman, the regional director for the Anti-Defamation League, which fights hate speech, said Worley owed the gay and lesbian community a “swift and unequivocal apology.”
Another Baptist church with a similar name was targeted by people angered by Worley’s sermon. The Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C., distanced itself from Worley, calling his words “hateful and violent.”
The church web site specifies that it is a “moderate” cooperative Baptist Fellowship congregation of approximately 2,000 members.
“Jesus is our model for living and His presence is our source of strength for life,” said a statement on the church’s web site. “Jesus preached a Gospel of love. So do we. Jesus preached that we love our neighbor, whether that neighbor is like us or not.”
Anthea Butler, associate professor of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, joins The Last Word to discuss the violent rhetoric coming from churches on marriage equality.

The preachers 40 years ago got cheered for opposing interracial marriage. Just think of how this man is going to look in another 40.
It is sad, not surprising, but sad that a call for concentration camps would get a standing ovation in a "house of god".
These people are the equivalent of the radical Islamists. God wills it! NOT!
He does realise that he's advocating for concentration camps, right?
Religious mental illness strikes again! Just think, this guys been preaching hate for over fifty years and he's proud of it.............. Concentration camps in the United States of America, I DON"T THINK SO !!!!
Cross that state of my list of visits or living, definitely. Nasty people. And it wasn't just that one guy. It was his congregation, too. So guess we can't lock them in the church and let them put up with each other, can we? Oh wait! That wouldn't be nice, would it? We wouldn't do that to them...hmmm...too bad they can't treat others the same way. Bet Jesus would be really proud of them...ick.
He is no better than the Nazis. If anyone is going to hell; he will be first in line. He is the worst of the worst. Can he be charged with a "hate crime"
The fence needs to go around that stupid church and every other one like it. Think how much better off the world would be.
BuyBull brainwashing and christianity -- at its finest!
This is not how Jesus would want his word spread. Christians should find this offensive. Even if you follow that the Bible speaks against homosexuality, you do not bring people to God by looking at others with hate. Christ also speaks about loving and not judging others. It's time that Christians started living as did Christ and not following hate filled speach spewed by those with political agendas. Jesus was able to reach millions by doing righteous deeds and only once did he become actionably angry and that is when thieves had taken over the temple and were profiting off others.
And as far as saying that Christianity is a religion of the extreme right, MANY democrats identify themselves as Christians, our President and Hillary Clinton included. It is also the dominant religion among African Americans in the US and there are many Christian churches who openly accept glbt peoples and have gay/lesbian ministers. Sadly, like all groups there is a vocal extremist minority that gets ALL of the media attention. Mostly for political reasons from the other extreme.
ram
Chapel Hill and Durham are full of cool, progressive, modern people that don't believe this BS. It's not everyone in NC.
One thing he doesn't seem to realize is that homos will not disappear by putting them all in a concentration camp. You see, most homos are raised by straight people and their biological parents were almost certainly straight. This guy's a @!$%#ing idiot.
And so are you for calling them "homos".
He'll be soliciting sex from a gay prostitute soon. Three years at the most. It will happen.
Homos, homosexuals, what's the difference? I don't discriminate against them and they can do whatever they want, as long as they don't behave like Bruno. FYI, I don't personally know any gay people who are like that.
North Carolina's motto, "Arbeit macht frei."
Its not for vacations anymore.
We could troll a hundred lgbt sites and find the very same vitriol directed to christians. but keep throwing stones in your glass houses. morons.
“And you know what? In a few years they will die out. You know why? They can’t reproduce. If a man ever has a young'un, praise God he will be the first.”
Confusing statement. Gays come from straight unions...
I'm calling a public bet on how long it will be before Preacher "Electric French - er, Fence" Worley will be caught with a gay body-builder prostitute that he has been paying for decades to keep his mouth shut (in public anyway).
I give it three weeks until Worley is outed! Any takers? Any other bets?
This is not a preacher of Christianity, this is a man abusing his freedom of speech to spread hatred, bigotry, and murder.
What this article DID NOT mention, is about a 1000 people who also protested outside of this church in North Carolina. Its been all over facebook and its a shame that MSNBC did nothing to cover it as well.
Hummmmmmmmmmm .... everyone has different perspective ... but isn't there a commonality of basic Christian Tenets?

Barnes' Notes on the Bible
For God so loved - This does not mean that God approved the conduct of men, but that he had benevolent feelings toward them, or was "earnestly desirous" of their happiness. God hates wickedness, but he still desires the Happiness of those who are sinful. "He hates the sin, but loves the sinner." A parent may love his child and desire his welfare, and yet be strongly opposed to the conduct of that child. When we approve the conduct of another, this is the love of complacency; when we desire simply their happiness, this is the love of benevolence.
The world - All mankind. It does not mean any particular part of the world, but man as man - the race that had rebelled and that deserved to die. See John 6:33; John 17:21. His love for the world, or for all mankind, in giving his Son, was shown by these circumstances:
1. All the world was in ruin, and exposed to the wrath of God.
2. All people were in a hopeless condition.
3. God gave his Son. Man had no claim on him; it was a gift - an undeserved gift.
4. He gave him up to extreme sufferings, even the bitter pains of death on the cross.
5. It was for all the world. He tasted "death for every man," Hebrews 2:9. He "died for all," 2 Corinthians 5:15. "He is the propitiation for the sins of the whole world," 1 John 2:2.
That he gave - It was a free and unmerited gift. Man had no claim: and when there was no eye to pity or arm to save, it pleased God to give his Son into the hands of men to die in their stead, Galatians 1:4; Romans 8:32; Luke 22:19. It was the mere movement of love; the expression of eternal compassion, and of a desire, that sinners should not perish forever.
His only-begotten Son - See the notes at John 1:14. This is the highest expression of love of which we can conceive. A parent who should give up his only son to die for others who are guilty if this could or might be done - would show higher love than could be manifested in any other way. So it shows the depth of the love of God, that he was willing. to give his only Son into the hands of sinful men that he might be slain, and thus redeem them from eternal sorrow.
I thought Christianity was a religion of love, not hate ....
Welcome to the world view of those outside the Church. They're cheering and clapping and having a good ol' time plotting and scheming about demeaning the lives of others. Hateful radicals that think anyone who doesn't subscribe to their faith should burn, have all their life and liberties ripped away from them. Funny, these are the same people that scream about how Sharia Law wouldhurt us... kinda sounds like they'd be in favor of it.
http://www.wbtv.com/category/195957/video-landing-page?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=7334567#.T8LU1o-VDeo
there is just a sample video of the THOUSANDs that turned out against this preacher and his radical speech of hatred and murder.
A bigot "preacher" gets a standing O from a bigot congregation. Color me surprised...
It appears to be a religion of confusion. Look at the huge number of translations of the bible in the last 50 years. It seems Christianity, Inc. may need a reorg.
Sounds like a typical t-potty meeting. Pitchforks and torches for all.
Jeremiah Wright could take hate lessons from this guy.
I love how much hate there is in the world. Not much has changed in the last few thousand years. Sure we have technology now. But we pretty much use that to destroy and kill. But who we are as humans hasn't changed much. We still love to lie, cheat, steal, kill, bully. So much hate, it's intoxicating.
sometimes...i guess...we all give god the blues...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVbPVfhzE0Y
The words used in this slight intended to get more TY(I)DES....Yepper thats all it was as these creeps hide behind religion which for the most part world wide is one big scam. Do not knock all christians because a recent poll came out about even on the Presidents view on gay marriage. There are good christians and bad ones just like Islam. They cannot answer the question "If God made us all then he also made gays right?" If he is all perfect and all knowing does it not conclude that he possibly made them to test who the good christians are and who the bad ones are.
Hey, even all the imbred hillbillies need a pastor. Unfortunately for them one day they will be judged by God.
Something like this coming from a southern state, I'm not surprised! If these people are cheering for preaching hate in the name of Jesus, they are truly brainwashed. This is a perfect example of why I cant stand religion.
I'll tell you how he's going to look in 40 years.
Corpsified and gross.
How will he be seen?
He won't. He doesn't even rate a T-shirt now, and in 40 years he'll be utterly forgotten.
No, just the Majority in NC...
I ask two questions. To all those who agree with this hate filled man, how many of you are divorced? How many are now remarried?
WWJD
You can't tell me for one second that Jesus would advocate such a plan! This man is NOT a Christian. He is EVIL.
just wonderin ...aren't there any gay people who are professional assassins and such ....?
Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35
January 10, 1963
Current Communist Goals
.....
11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)
12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
.....
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
.....
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."
.....
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."
.....
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
-----------------------------------
Every society that accepts sexual perversity as "normal" soon collapses. No matter how much people go against nature, nature always wins. What did they used to say?
So your another Mccarthy looking for Commies where there are none or very few Spiddas or Spider or ...
Reneck, hillbilly christianity at its best, yeehaw!
Toasty McGrath
Why was Toasty's comment collapsed? There is nothing wrong with it--no bad language, no putting anyone or any group down, no criticizing, etc. Just a statement. What the heck is the matter with who ever collapses these comments? I bet this one gets collapsed, too. Shame on you who do this.
There are a lot of posts that say gays come from straight parents. I've also read and heard that being gay is not a choice but they were born that way. If they were born that way, wouldn't that mean that being gay was in their genes? How would you get a gay gene from straight parents? If being gay is genetic then wouldn't that lead to the eventual demise of gays as a true homosexual can't reproduce? The demise of gays would have happened a long time ago, before science could create pregnancies without the sexual act, if it was genetic. So my point is that being gay is a choice, and that leads to some of the hate directed towards gays. I could care less if someone is gay or not, it doesn't interfere with my life style, just don't put in my face all the time.
My guess is he is gay. Closet homosexual. In fact weak frightened people ALWAYS need a bogeyman. An enemy. An "us vs. them"to play off of. Show me where on earth there is a bible with more then a few lines on homosexuality? I KNOW there is so much more on so many other things in the bible quite prominent in fact. BUT and that is his wife's very BIG but, all many self proclaimed Christians can focus on is gays. Is YOUR god so weak he allows you to hate and by extension fear gays? Hmmmm Indeed.
MY GOD has no fear and allows room for NO fear except of him. I shall fear no man. Yet you do, especially when in the company of other men... ; ]
Cheers
Anyone who's learned about genetics will realize that it's indeed possible for a gay person to be born from straight parents. Just like how left-handed people can have right-handed parents. Ever heard of recessive genes?
How sad that this man is hiding behind Christianity. Jesus would never keep anyone interested in his teachings from hearing them. Pretty sure denying access is not in keeping with God's word.
Johnny, you clearly don't understand genetics. What the heck do you mean that a "true homosexual" can't reproduce? They reproduce the same way heterosexual couples reproduce or they reproduce using a surrogate or donor sperm. There are plenty of homosexual couples who raise children either of their union or from a previous union, or through adoption.
In any event even though I don't believe you care where homosexuality comes from, here's a very simplistic lesson in genetics. There are both recessive and dominant genes. If two parents have black hair but each carries blonde hair recessive genes, the baby still has a 50/50 chance of ending up with blonde hair because each parent donates only one gene/gamete to the baby. Have you never seen a blonde haired child with both brunette parents?
Finally, homosexuality may not be genetic but still not be a choice. It could be due to factors occurring during pregnancy. If it were a choice, when did you choose to be straight? If it were a choice, you could choose to be gay today. It's not relevant to what this idiot pastor is calling for--the rounding up of gay people in concentration camps. Which is frankly incredibly stupid because it will never cause the extinction of gay people. Gay people are born to heterosexual parents everyday.
There is not anyone who believes that he is advocating violence... and I'm not even defending him... but so many of you have not been to church in so long that you wouldn't know "preaching" if it stood up and bit you... Reverend Right.... Yeah the Presidents EX-preacher..you know.. the one who "taught" POTUS for 20 years... yea.. the one who said God D_— America and got a standing ovation from his church.. well I don't agree with what he said but...I knew he was making a point and now "condemning" the US population but it's policies... He was saying.. let them try to fight nature..they (gays) cannot reproduce naturally.... You guys will try to paint Christians with a broad brush.. well fine.. count me in... Jesus love unconditionally but to go to heaven... there are "conditions"... I love how one of the posters quoted John 3:16... (snicker) and forgot the "rest of the scripture:
Joh 3:17-20 KJV(17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.(18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.(19) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.(20) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
It has been said, taken the entirety of Jesus actual words ... he talked more about Hell than any other subject... "...There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth..." "A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas." " And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.." May Jesus needs to get on this thread to find out what a "hate monger", "Nazi", "Homophobe", "racist" ... He really is.
Your not going to heaven violating God's rule... Not man's rules.. but God... if you say that well Who says God's rule is thus? We ONLY have the Bible reflecting Judean Christian belief.. sorry.. no other "source" exist... (every one here is welcome to study ancient Sanskrit, Hebrew, Greek and Arabic... and let me know how that is working for ya) It is the only source we have... (if not so why do you all quote it).
Hey... and some of the thing some of you all said is equally hateful. I don't "collapse" a comment just because a view is opposite of mine.. if it is a "bad" comment then report it and collapse it... I've been on these blogs for a while... and the most hateful are the Libs.. not he professed Christian.. I accept Gays as people with souls that Need God... bu they are Sinning and will not see God.. That God's word.. not mine..
Don't quote the Bible libs..... stick to Aristotle, Plato, Epicurus, Voltaire you can find plenty to "quotes" to agree with you... God, however you slice it.. does not.
Gal_1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
Jud 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Jud 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
All of this New Testament.. Not Old.. These things ALONG with Love, Temperance, Peace, Holiness we are to believe AND practice... I leave with this (I don't like quoting so much scripture but you libs laid down the opening salvo)
Luk 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
I know most of us have a problem with preachers preaching politics, do you recall why one of the last acts of Jesus before the crucifixion was to destroy the temple? Hmmm. And all though many on here choose CHURCH as the place to let people die instead of preaching the word and choose church as a place to objectify instead of spread the word and choose church to hate those they see as an enemy because the politics of there party demand it instead of preaching the word should be shamed and they will be. You see Gods word is for all to here and it was NOT man who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah in the bible was it. Did God himself call on the killing of gays? Hmmm.
He would have them hear the word just as the thief on the cross next to Jesus did. ; ] HIS choice to take it to heart, and thats that.
But a fence rounding up to cage people and take there freedoms from them in AMERICA.. Really? Hmm. We are not a Christian nation we are a free one. A nation for all who choose it wish to be free and can live within the law. ; ] Not a Christian theocracy and what so many self proclaimed Christians cannot seem to grasp is the freedom for people NOT to believe. Are founding documents resemble the laws and construct of the Freemasons more closely then they do the bible. PERIOD.. Are we then a Freemasonry country?
People came here not just to escape taxation without representation by the English King but to be free from religious persecution. You'd know that had you had half an education. To choose what religion or none at all is freedom. There is NO caveat to freedom. Remember that...
Cheers
Unlike in an actual asylum, letting the "inmates" run this forum is nothing more than an expression of freedom. If you were a monitor, and Toasty wrote something you disagreed with, what would you do? Deleting his post is nothing short of censorship, especially if he happens to be right.
This isn't about beliefs or religion... this is just about being @!$%#s.
But if they have a son or daughter with "the affliction", they can always convert them like they did/do with left handedness.
When you have such narrow bands of inclusion and acceptance, how can you call yourself Christian?
@ flame... thank you for being one of the few with a level head in all of these comments.
@mowdy... this wasnt about religious persecution until everyone here started bashing this preacher, his congregation and the state of north carolina for their religious beliefs. all the preacher did was say (in colorful words) that gay men cannot reproduce with each other and that gay women cannot reproduce with each other. he also said that it is a sin to be gay which if you follow the bible and read the WHOLE thing, and not just the parts you want, says specifically.
this is all assuming of course that you are christian and do believe. if you are not than you just have to say... i respect your religion and i understand but i do not agree,
@ spartan... stop man... just stop. even if it were genetic and it DID skip a generation than guess what buddy.... the family line would still die out because truly gay people cant reproduce because the thought sickens them. ok... lets make this easier... if your grandfather were gay your one of your parents would never have been born so you wouldnt have been born. hence it COULDNT skip a generation because there wouldnt be a generation to skip to!
look, i dont necessarily agree with this guy but i consider him pretty brave. he is standing up for his religious convictions and his beliefs which nowadays isnt the "cool" thing to do. he now has a large part of the country spitting in his direction because he preaches the bible. l
Our very own little Auschwitz in Maiden NC.
We must be intolerant to people who have no tolerance.
Religious fundamentalists should be hunted and killed and beaten and harassed and maimed and brutalized by one and all when ever we get a chance.
By tolerating their hate speech as a celebration of our freedoms we are being a part of their hatred.
A troglodyte leading a flock of troglodytes.
sebastion69, my maternal and paternal grandparents were all right-handed. The maternal grandparents produced 13 healthy off-spring. The paternal grandparents produced 11. Two of the thirteen off-spring are left-handed. 3 of the 11 are left-handed. My father and mother were both right-handed and brought 6 of us into the world. 2 of us are left-handed. My wife and I are both right-handed. 1 of our 2 sons is a lefty.
Using the above as facts (and simple math), we can only reach one conclusion. Putting all of today's lefties in concentration camps would do nothing to eradicate future left-handed people in the populace. The same holds true for gays.
I agree that the pastor's words had nothing to do with religious persecution. He was not persecuting the religion of anyone. He and his followers were using their brand of religion to condemn an entire subset of people regardless of their religious beliefs.
I could no more consider him pretty brave as I could consider Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Hitler or Gaddafi brave. All of them, including this "pastor, stood behind the safety of a podium to condemn enormous groups of innocent people. I think this man "doth protest too much". His congregation and defenders should keep a very close eye on him. He is bound to prove to be a huge embarrassment to them all.
Those crazy Koran reading extremists, pretending they are Christian and going to church.
I love watching people being anti-gay, while praying to Mecca and wearing a cross.
If people don't want homosexuality shoved in their face perhaps they shouldn't be Teabaggers :)
There are many different kinds of people, different cultures, different ways of thinking, thank God there are Christians who think differently than this if you want to call him a pastor..What makes the world beautiful is we all don't group together as being different, because we are.
This is amazing....MSNBC manages to find a Preacher, with what.....a 100 person congregation....., who espouses putting all homosexuals within the confines of an electric fence. You idiots turn this into a 1500+ Comment forum. Thank you all for giving this guy his Fifteen minutes of fame, or possibly more by the time some other news group joins the band, and wave the rainbow flags.
Really people !?!....Really ????
to the person who cant understand basic genetics- the parents likley carry a gene which is only expressed when present in 2 copies like albinism- but thats not likely the whole story, there is some evidence that hormonal imbalances in the mother during pregnancy contribute as well. so at least in animals it appears to be a combination of both genetics and in utero environment. and yes there are gay animals
I'm much more curious if your family knows anything about birth control than their 'handedness'
Guys, it was just a comment collapse. I get them all the time. Just, you know, keep things in perspective here.

Imagine where we WOULDN'T be if he had only created Adam and Steve! I am sure that everyone has heard the saying That I would rather live my life as if there is a GOD and find out there isn't than to live my life as if there isn't and find out there is. It is going to be an eye opener either way come judgment day. As for me:God said it, I believe it, That settles it.
DaGoose
That is true if you are a Christian.
America is made up of Christians (many flavors), Agnostics, Hindus, Native American faiths, Buddhists, Muslims, Wiccans, Atheists, New Age'rs, Taoists, etc, etc, etc.
Since America was not founded on any religion, and since Americans have the freedom to practice any religion, or no religion at all, you are only right with a very small niche of people.
Beside didn't God create ALL men, including Steve, who was BORN Gay?
the plain and simple fact is that the religious taliban zealots in this country demand that everyone else live by what they see as "gods rules", which makes them no different from the religious taliban zealots (esp in the middle east) that demand others live by what they claim to be "gods rules"(or allah or whatever, its all the same ).
live your OWN life by your religious rules and let those that don't follow your intrepretation live by their standards
This guy desires to take america down the path the nazis took, he is just so brilliant.
He is a loony leading a bunch of loonies so is no surprise he got a standing ovation. Start worrying if his church starts growing.
Newsflash -- almost half of the country's population is christian/BuyBull belief just like that guy's congregation. If you think otherwise, you're kidding yourself.
I agree frog ! I'm just glad that now with the ease of the xfer of information , video especially , that these hate weasels can be shown in full frontal view to the entire world.
Not all people who are Christian, or hold Christianic beliefs, are bigoted, hate mongering, science denying idiots. The ones that call themselves "christian" that act like this are the ones that get all the attention giving all the normal ones a bad name.
Then why aren't the "normal" ones standing up to them? Is it the same reason that more moderate Islamists don't stand up to the jihadists? Just sayin...
We are. There are plenty of posts on here from people who clearly hold Christianic beliefs speaking out and denouncing this "pastor," just like plenty of Muslims denounced 9-11, and other terrorist actions by radicals.
Then the "normal" ones should be responsible for calling them out on their stupidity and dangerous rhetoric, otherwise gays will have no recourse except to defend themselves from these bigots in any manner necessary.
I agree but if you live in NC you risk your life if you stand up and oppose one f these bigots. Been that way all my life It is not right but it happens. We are in close to being a religious backed country as they have wormed their way into the GOP so tight they cannot live without them.
So I'm guessing freedom of speech is dead in this room? Oh I forgot. Freedom of speech only applies to liberals, right?
This guy, at 71, may get cheers from 100 folks, probably elderly themselves. But like the elderly in the Catholic Church with their current scandal at the Vatican, or the elderly in the Muslim pulpit like Al-Zawahari, they don't have the time left in their lives to see their beliefs come to fruition. This is a secular country, not a Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc. nation. These religious elders dream of glory days when many in their congregations were illiterate, and the church provided social order. Those days are gone. This is not to say that the congregations of many of the churches, headed by such elders, are not challenged in math and logistics, for if they believe you could get every species of animal pairs onto an ark, you could get all the gay people into a fenced inclosure, and thus this preacher has an argument for 100 gullible residents of his community.
And this is the reason to challenge the tax exempt status of these churches. The residents of that community would be paying a wide range of taxes such as property tax for the schools, so the schools can teach math. Then some old washed up preacher comes along trying to convince the population to pay more taxes so a fence can be put up which would run into the millions of dollars, and food and shelter and clothing for the internees would be in the billions, and this old goat is going to be tax exempt while everyone else pays. And look at the legal costs which would be incurred?
From a theological base, I find him a fool, if only that there are other versions of the Bible than the King James Bible, but he's not being foolish. He's trying to stir up hatred and discontent, and have the taxpayer bail out all of the expenses, to afford him his fantasy, so he get's his fame in his final years. He wanted attention, and he got attention, at other's expense. The "truth is" the Bible Prophesies he's been believing over the last 5 decades or better, didn't come to pass, anymore than they came to pass before him, and there's no indication they'll come to pass anytime in the near foreseeable future, no different than numerous other old goats of the cloth.
Send in the IRS, investigate his tax exempt status... oh, and drop of a math book for his congregation to study.
No Tucker freedom of speech is on display in this "room", you might disagree with the comments, but even you get your say. And the Rev got his say, and now we are calling him out for the tenor and subject of his speech which is OUR exercising the same right he got from the Pulpit. The question is if he gets to keep his tax exempt status while engaging in Political speech against the President: Something explicitly forbidden to a Tax Exempt institution.
Looks alive and well to me.
No one ever said that there wouldn't be any repercussions for speaking ones mind.
Nice political deflection though.
Give me a break. Just because an individual refuses to accept people with what many deem as perverse abnormal, degenerate, sinful sexual identity and desire disorders doesn't make him a Nazi. The REAL Nazi's are those that try to muzzle anyone that has as a divergent view of how much importance sexual desire should have in socio-cultural values that have shaped a nation for over 250 years. Just look at the "hate speech" on this blog from people that would have been gutted and hung out to dry if they lived in about 60% of the world's countries. This is the price you pay when you balance freedom of expression against the common good; you sometimes grow spoiled little know-it-all brats that don't realize what it is they're opining about between their medical joints, starbucks, and kool-aide. Excuse me now while I send my $25,000 donation to the good church in North Carolina.
Gays and Lesbians will not die out because STRAIGHT people keep having them! Besides being hateful this preacher is ignorant...and people cheer this? Unreal.
Cheering in church. Now that's just queer.
I am a Christian, was raised in a Christian home and have spent time around Christians all my life and can say that I don't know anyone that would support this mans comment. Many Christians don't believe in gay marriage but that is a far cry from what this man is suggesting.
Several posts are calling Christians out for not denouncing this. I am wondering if some of you did not read all the article. There were several pastors that spoke out about his statements and one that called for an IRS investigation.
As Christians, just like another people we have the right to have our opinions based on our believes but that does not give us the right to push our believes on other people.
Hey Duval, how about you stop being a useful idiot?
I totally disagree with what the guy said, but I have to ask; how is some nobody in a nobody church with 100 people big news? Put some faceblack on the guy, replace the word 'homosexuals' with 'whites', and he could preach to the president and nobody would think it was a big deal.
Wow, Tucker. Why the need to LIE every time you post? Nobody is trying to DENY him the RIGHT to speak. But, just as he is exercising his right to speak (like a filthy goddam Nazi) -- others here are exercising their right to reply to this lowlife.
With regard to this issue, at least, things are working just as they should work in this constitutional republic.
Cheers!
it's a simple as that, darcie. why didn't msnbc choose to find all the other extremists from the litany of groups crying foul? the answer is it doesn't fit the script. i can give you links right now to lgbt website calling for the death of religious people, all it takes is a google search. why the constant need to foist this christian-vs-gays motif?
I stand up to these ignorant fools all the time.
I fired off an Email earlier to him, doubt if it reaches him but it is the best I could do.
People like him don't understand that a Christian is to be like Christ:
John 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
They are hypocrites because they usually claim they can put God's blessing on adultery.
They do this whenever they allow someone that has divorced their spouse to marry in their church:
Mark 10:11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
Mark 10:12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Never are Christians told to run around pointing out the sins of those in the secular world, NEVER.
Most people are familiar with Moses and the ten Commandments. Actually there were 15 but Moses dropped one of the tablets and broke it coming down from the mount. The other 5 commandments were:
11. Be fruitfull and/or multiply. (This means Gays ok by god!}
12. Women must remove all tags from thongs before wearing.
13. Bet double down on Seabiscuit VS Admiral at Pilmico.
14. Buy low sell high.
15. Don't be stupid.
The point the pastor is trying to make that the bible says that homosexualality is sin... and something that God hates. If you want to be gay fine.... but it is a sin and unless your repent will go to Hell. The pastor is showing his love for homos and lebos by telling them that they are sinning and need to ask for forgiviness
Separation of church and state? is that not the same as separation of state and church? The Christan's feel violated and in a sense they are, this is a sacred issue to them, this is not going to go away, and it will never be right. just because some gay person says its right. that's like saying every thing is OK so long as that is what you want to do just go for it. there is no right but there is wrong its for you to decide but not to judge. the damnation of Christianity in the long run they will turn the other cheek. and perverts will destroy the world as we know it. this world wont last at its present for 12 more years, then $hit will hit the fan surprise surprise, wake up its a sick world getting sicker. I don't know what healthy is I have nothing to compare it to.
THINGS are working as they should lol OBAMA dosen`t follow the constitution so let`s get that stopped right here. As a christian GOD said be fruitful and multiply gay people can`t do that so that leaves that out.JESUS said i give you a new commandment love others as i haved haved loved you, in this all the law and commandments are within. JESUS also said judge not lest you be judged. so should i go by the old testement or new i`ll go with what jesus said. as long as gays don`t brake the law, what they do in their homes is not for me to judge i don`t agree with it and as long as they leave me alone they will have to answer to god. But as for a man having sex with children, again i`ll go along with what JESUS said it would be better for that person to tie a millstone around his neck and throw himself into the sea.BUT me being in the flesh and being week i would make sure that person never touched another child again because his manhood would be gone.As far as this preacher it`s also written that those who preach and get it wrong they will be judged more harhly. So for alll of you who put the bible down u have either not read it or u read it but don`t understand it . GOD BLESS U ALL
starsailing , you are stupid and a hypocrite and a blasfamist as well. just shut up and go to bed , no one wants to read another of your stupid comment!
Sadly B-Buck that is exactly what has been taught in our public schools for over 40 yrs, situation ethics. The NEA in this country has stated emphatically that they do not believe in nor will they teach "absolutes". Funny enough they are totally hypocritical on this point as they are "absolutely" against absolutes. What it boils down to is they will only teach their radical left wing agenda, they will not tolerate any other view.
I think there is too much hate on both sides of this argument. Gays certainly aren't lacking in their attacks on religion and heterosexuals. Why can't people just get along better? Read "Prisoners of Hate" by Aaron Beck, M.D., a professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Hope all you haters out there start feeling better.
Why shouldn't religious people be called out for their absurd ideas and beliefs? Gay or straight.
Great comback line Sandra.....Do search on the Polka Padre, pastor of our church, molesting little boys and the church "counsels him" and moves him to another parrish...How christian. How perfectly christian of the church. The man is a pedophile and the church condones this. Forgives the polka Padre because what...? Plays a great accordian and can lure other accordianists to the church?
How about the navel offcer/pastor at our church 1970. My friend was introducing a woman friend to our church and the first mass she comes to, the priest blurts out "some god damned hippes came into the church and stole our candles and chalice. Swearing like the sailor he was...Half the people walked out and never went back. How perfectly christian of him, blame the "goddamned long hairs."
Sandra, let's meet in the confessional and discuss our similarities. Bet you and I are not that much different...Yes?...No...yes...no no....yess..yes...no...YES!
First of all, I am a Christian which I'm NOT PERFECT JUST FORGIVEN! Also , I am not judging anyone --- that's God job. Yes I read the article about what Pastor Worley had said about the homosexual commity. It was distasteful and rude ---- but at same time -- according to the Word of God it is a sin to be homosexual; plain and simple. If a person takes what God says in His Word at face value, there is a lot to be learned, Leave the interpreting of the Bible to to the bible scholars and theologians. Reading some of the comments about this incident, many of you do not sound any better than Pastor Worley. Yes there is the issue about freedom of speech but does one have to be mean-spirited and distasteful to get their point across. I don't think so. I think a liitle careful thinking is needed before exposing one's thoughts.
onemanvolt
"Why shouldn't religious people be called out...."
By the same logic then why shouldn't gays be called out for what some think are their "absurd ideas and beliefs"? Alternatively why shouldn't religous people be allowed the religous freedom to believe whatever religion they want and gays be allowed to follow the private sexual practices they wish and everyone stop hating each other. Check out Dr. Beck's book. It might raise your consciousness and lower your blood pressure.
By the way, if you do meet someone in the confessional, make sure the occupied light for confessional booth is turned off on the kneel down pad. I always wondered how Sister Rose Francis knew Linda and me were in there during lunch in 8th grade.
Did I ever post how I helped Sister Anton decide to quit being a nun?...Ya 8th grade......boy if I could go into a WAYBACK machine......
Sandra...thanks for your posts....you BROKE Commandments #12 didn't you?.....I know you did......you are going to burn in hell or visit Cleveland because of it. Certainly you broke commandment #14 above. You give us too much material.
Sandra......In 8th grade I made Sister Anton quit the nunnery. Basketball coach got mad at his son during a game and hit son in face during time out(Coach always sat front left pew in church) So I picked up the ball and drilled coach in the back of head. Yep kicked off team, but sat in bleachers getting kissed by all the girls. Well young Sister Anton told me I should not be kissing all the girls, I should at least pick only one and go steady. I said ok, will you go steady with me and be my girlfriend? Told her she was really cute.etc. She started to cry and left. Next week she was AWOL from the school and nunnery. Missed out on being a teen girl........Next story I will tell you how I made Angela go to confessions twice in one night!
God said be fruitfull anf multiply!!!!!!
I wonder how he would feel if someone said he and whoever agrees with him should be placed behind an electrical fence until they die off to get rid of the hate for the good of the nation? I'm sure he wouldn't take offense to it.
The Bible says "Judge not lest ye be judged" and "Let him without sin cast the first stone." Also Jesus' closest friends were considered the dredge of society, according to the religious authority of the time. I love my Lord Jesus, He set the example and I will follow. Religious bigotry will be dealt with by God and I feel sorry for this pastor, because
James 3:1 warns that "There should not be many teachers among you, my brethren, but you should know that we will incur greater judgment" Watchout pastors and teachers! Careful what you preach!!! Read your Bible, it says you will incur greater judgement because you are supposed to be responsible for your actions.
It makes me sick when Christians abuse Christ's teachings to self-agrandize and control others. When asked what the most important commandments were Jesus replied:
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Mat: 22:36-40
LOVE and LOVE!!!
Go tell it on the mountain! His priorities were straight! The rest was conjecture and misinterpretation!
I find it ironic that his "solution" is to basically cast the gay community out, isolation behind fences, hoping they'll die out. I find it ironic since that's the same thing people in biblical times did to the lepers. And guess what Rev - I don't recall Jesus Christ wasting countless hours of sermons demonizing lepers and justifying casting them out, shaming them and excluding them from society. No, Jesus Christ hung out with the lepers. Just like he hung out with the poor, the woman at the well, etc.
This - I won't even call him a man - this sorry, disgusting, embarrassing excuse of a human being - if anybody ought to be ashamed - he should. His sermon and his attitude is cruel, backwards, tactless and degenerate on so many levels it isn't even funny. He claims to be a christian, yet he is endorsing the same policy, encouraging the same mindset, that sent over six millions Jewish people, gay people, people who were mentally ill or otherwise considered "defective" to the gas chambers.
And I'm disgusted with him for another reason too. This sick little sermon of his - it also gives you a real good glimpse into what he REALLY thinks of women, the kind of esteem he holds us in. It was Mother's Day. A woman brought his sorry butt into this world (too bad abortion wasn't legal back then. He's a poster child for it) - we make up half the population in this country. It was a woman - Mary - who gave birth to Jesus Christ. And what does this jackhole do?
Does he actually take the time on this Sunday, Mother's Day, to preach any kind of positive sermon devoted to women, to mothers, to their role in society, etc. No, he uses Mother's Day as an opportunity to spew out some hate filled rant against the gay community - effectively giving the finger to women and gays everywhere. And considering the number of women in this country who have a child who is gay, a sibling, a parent, a cousin, etc. - he showed colossal disrespect to millions of people. If I sound offended, your bloody right I am. This guy is a douche.
I think the same thing about him that Bill Maher said when Jerry Falwell died. He said when Falwell got up there to the pearly gates, he hoped God was waiting for him in a pair of nut hugger shorts and a Cher T-shirt and would tell him "in a mighty lisp - I'm not talking to you." And just like Falwell - I won't be the least bit sorry to see this one go either.
I try to be a good christian, there are times (like now) when I don't think I am one, because crap like this makes me angry. As I've told people before - the only thing I am intolerant of - is intolerance. I get sick of bigots like this clinging to the Old Testament, using verses from it to justify their hatred. When it suits them - they seem to easily forget that there IS a New Testament. According to their own religion - Jesus was born, he gave his Sermon on the Mount, he died for our sins - and he spent his entire life preaching about helping the poor, showing mercy, compassion and love for others. He didn't waste precious hours ranting about gays and abortion.
Lol religion. A collection of fairy tales that wars were fought over, people have been killed in the name of and the masses just eat up. Religion gives individuals a reason to hold their head high and look down upon unlike-minded people. Religion gives groups a reason to provide separation from society. Religion gives perverted priests an excuse to have sex, and every church a reason to avoid taxes while the rest of us give them money and pay our taxes.
Religion is based on your blind trust in a book written how many times over and over? Religion.. What a waste.
You don't need some fancy church to appreciate the world around you. You DON'T NEED A REASON (afterlife or the thought of) to be kind to your fellow humans. You DO NOT NEED A BOOK to give you hope to live another day, only look at the loved ones in your life. You don't need to give your money to a church, give it to a reputable charity that helps people with no prejudice. You don't need religion to make you feel good about yourself, that's your conscious trying to tell you something if you don't.
You don't need to preach to me about "gays" or "what the good book says" is acceptable. I wake up everyday with the thought of being kind and compassionate to my fellow man/woman on this planet. I'm more charitable than any religious fanatic I've ever met. I don't judge other people i find intimidating or disturbing or different. I don't care if two guys or two girls are sleeping with each other because its none of my business. I try to be clean and responsible to my planet and kind and compassionate to my fellow humans, do me a favor.. Drop the whole religion thing just for a day and follow my lead. The world would be a pleasant place.
GCooper:
When you say we don't need our religion (or, in my case, a belief in Jesus) you are being as bigoted as the preacher. While you have a right to your opinion, you do not have a right to dictate what each individual does or does not need in their life, unless of course, you believe you are a god. In that case, please see a Psychiatrist for your particular sociopathy.
I will admit, though, that the kindest people I have ever met, have been non-Christians, and that is a very, very sad reflection on the Spirit of 'the Church' today. They would like us to blame spectral evils and human manifestations on earth, but it's just really herd mentality under the suggestive power of men and women who abuse trust and the Bible while in leadership. I've seen it all my life, and it still blows me away. Doctors, lawyers, plumbers, scientists, farmers... It doesn't matter how intelligent or not. Put them in a social environment where they have a common social objective and they will kick ass and take names to ignore the truth in order to obtain that objective, no matter how transient or fluid. And, if someone tries to make sense of things, or do things differently, they will be ostracized. Jesus must be either angry (which I doubt) or, since he must already know, rotfl(his)ao. I'm sure He has a sense of humor, He gave us one.
One thing is certain - this pitiful excuse for a minister is violating the law by campaigning from the pulpit. The church should lose its tax exemption.
Jim-3113262 I agree with you about the tax exemption matter.
Also, I wonder if this pastor, who admits to using a King James Bible, knows that King James was either an outright homosexual or a very active bi-sexual. ?? That is not my opinion, it is historical fact.
People should read The History of Scotland, to learn more about King James. It turns out that he had a lot of kinks in his hose.
This pastor's running a subculture of beliefs that is getting its strength from several sources, one source being from like-minded haters over the internet that are propping up his ego and giving justification to the hate being intensified by cheering members of his supportive congregation.
Here is just one possible outcome:
His messages of of hate will attract more anti-gays to his church, and his congregation will grow to the point when it will implode. How? All it will take is one member of his church or others that say they were inspired by his hatred, to go out and forcefully imprison, enslave and/or murder gay people. Word gets out, and this homicide gets in the news, investigators find they were behind it, and then he and his church will be put under the microscope of the authorities.
That's when the IRS and other megachurches that disagree with his promotion of Nazi tactics rob his church of the political and financial power he has built up, and his church will come crashing down, and cognitive dissonance will then rule the minds of his ex-followers.
Hatred can only burn itself out faster, when its own flames gets itself even hotter.
Amused In The Midwest
Being from the Midwest like me, I think you know the many answers to that.
Fear.
Peer pressure.
Acceptance.
Go along and get along.
The ones with tolerance, empathy, and inclusion in the Midwest must always pick their battles or you would be mad and fighting every hour of every day.
But the ones that cheered per the article are blatant @!$%#s... I would have walked out of that church and never returned. What else could you do? (A real question)
I'd like to build an electrified fence and put Pastor Worley and all of the dip$h*ts who stood for this "man of God" in it, first for taking the Lord's name in vain by trying to attach such backwards hatred to it and second for making my home state look bad !!
Starsailing . . I have been reading some of your posts and I understand you!! Many of my friends grew up in Catholic schools and tell me of how those crafty nuns carried lead shot in their robe tassels and could weld it like David. Perhaps you also have cauliflower ear?
But you do understand how your experiences have informed your politics, don't you?? All of that control by the nuns has led you to seek a Nanny State in your Democratic politicking! There is likely only one cure for that. Reimmersion therapy - starting with a nice long sail with Sister Nancy Pelosi and Father Reid. I bet NANCY PELOSI Looks Great in a "Habit"!!!
Also, what I've never understood, if you young boys were so terrorized by the nuns all those years, why didn't you complain to the Priests???
What a hateful, sick bigot.
Brought to you by the same people who mate with their first cousins.........
Family tree looks like grafting exercise gone awry.
Yes - it didn't take long for those genes to lose their way. Maybe add some animal genes to
revitalize the local gene pool ???
He may not have said what he said in a very loving way - but Christians are fed up with having homosexuality forced upon them. We KNOW what the Bible says about the homosexual lifestyle --- it is SIN! And, no matter what MAN may say we will never overturn what God has declared.
Dr. E
So, you don't eat shellfish? Or wear cotton blends?
You words..."no matter what MAN may say we will never overturn what God has declared."
I can never understand when people say things like they are "having homosexuality forced upon them." It is not like gays are going door to door and asking you to be gay. Some groups do this sort of thing though and it is very annoying.
how wrong and bigoted you are for making that statement. They DO NOT have sex with a cousin because a cousin ends in a 'sin' (see it right there at the end of the word?) for that reason they ONLY mate with parents, or sisters or brothers! PLEASE get your facts straight
Dr E, you are right that the bible teaches against homosexuality but the Constitution of the United States guarantees all people freedom of and from religion in addition to establishing justice, insuring domestic tranquility, promoting the general welfare of the people of this country. Once the SCOTUS has ruled on this matter you to will realize this important fact.
Experts estimate the US homosexual population to be about 10%. So if you want to segregate 10% of the US population, you need to make accommodations for about 31 million residents or about the population of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia combined. To make room for this death camp, we will need to clear out a lot of space. I nominate western NC, SC and GA. The current residents of this region can pack up their double-wides and find happiness in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and the Florida panhandle.
An added benefit would be reduction of unemployment due to the labor needed to construct this 2,000 mile 20' electricified fence plus the guardtowers every 500 yards.
Really would enjoy seeing this proposal debated at the Teapublican National Convention.
Drmarky....Gays forced on you? You having some kind of fantasy dream there buddy? If you don't like gays, quit watching porn!
So what do you call those clowns wearing white shirt and ties, and dress slacks riding bicycles, and going door to door driving every one nuts with their forced on religious talks?
Dr E, what exactly did Jesus say about gays? Not a single word of denouncement. And the passages oft quoted are taken out of context, illustrating more ignorance. Jesus denounced hypocrites with force.
are they next going to allow polygamy? After all, it's between consenting adults, right? Marriage has always been between 1 man and 1 woman in this country. Why on earth should we change it? Every fringe group out there will be clamoring for their own version of marriage. It needs to just stop!
Everytime some priest or minister goes off on a rant like this, it usually means the guy is guilty of being a pedophile and "Dost protest too much" to make it look he is the last person to act this way.
drmark
How can you have homosexuality forced upon you? Did somebody stick their tongue down your throat?
It isn't contagious, it is how someone is born.
Then don't do it if you don't want to. Nowhere in the bible are Christians told to force their will upon others.
Follow Christ:
John 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
tstucker0958
You need to check out toasty's comment, tstucker--you'll see how ignorant and wrong you are.............
culheath, you are just as stupid as they are, what do you mean defend themselves in ANY manner, you are condoning violence so you are no different than the reverend, so I don't know why you don't think before you post. just curious, are you gay or something because the article obviously has hurt you in a personal way. people are entitled to their opinion just like you are. we don't always have to like what someone else says but that does not give you a right to put your hands on someone else. The KKK don't like gays either so why don't you and the people that think like you confront them ?
nick , i don't understand your comment, it doesn't make sense, please think carefully and re - read your words before posting.
mountain man, is the constitution gonna save you from going to hell , though ? or do you even care if you go to hell ?
starsailing, like i said earlier, stop posting stupid and senseless comments, where in the article does it mention pedophile?
With all due respect... I think you should re-read my comment.
Let me try to... make it more clearer for you... how are people having HOMOSEXUALITY FORCED UPON THEM? HOW? Are homosexuals going door-to-door selling it? Are homosexuals even trying to convince people in anyway to practice the lifestyle? Isn't this the problem with the "gay agenda" that they are trying to make everyone gay? Please educate me and show me evidence of this! Even if you can come up with a shred of evidence to this... I reserve the right to respond to it 1000 fold with respect to other groups trying to force their lifestyles on other people.
It is not the purpose of the constitution to determine or influence your destination in an afterlife or even recognize that any particular one exist.
Sandra.......KKK don't like gays....because...? Ever take a look at the KKK costumes and all the pointy hats and all those crosses?????....a little churchy looking there eh?.........and they make fun of gays.....while THEY run around in costumes and pointy thingy hats.........
That's right, Sandra...a person is allowed ANY means of action when it comes to defending their own lives. It doesn't take deep thought to know what to do when someone is threatening to kill you, your family or even your neighbor. And whether I'm gay or not has nothing to do with my outrage...I don't have to be Black to want to stop a group of KKK-ers from lynching a Black man by ANY means necessary.
I find your attitude puerile and ignorant in the extreme.
Nick, how is homosexuality being forced on us? you ask. Let me count the ways. The lifestyle is being promoted in our schools, labeled "tolerance." Our children are being brainwashed in every form of the media so that they will accepting. And don't tell me I can police everything they see or hear. It is impossible, especially when they are vulnerable teens. Do you follow the political news? Gays are trying to get their agendas imposed on us by the passage of laws--same sex marriage, domestic partner benefits.Thank God most states' voters have had the sense to vote against them. And by the way, those religious folks who go door to door are not mainstream Christians.
With respect, tiredofthelunacy, the various "ways" that homosexuality is being "forced on us" is your opinion, and does not reflect the reality of how/if homosexuality is being "forced" on anyone. Children are being "brainwashed?" Seriously?! Having been a teacher, I can state, without hesitation or equivocation, that if there is ANY brainwashing that is being done in America's schools it is that which is done by the producers and printers of many of the textbooks used in the nation's schools; textbooks that go to great effort to leave-out whole swaths of American history and heritage in an effort to steer American children from receiving a truer representation of this country's past. And with all due respect, the same "tolerance" that you seem to dislike when it's shown towards gays is the same "tolerance" that schools strive to educate children about with respect to race, ethnicity, religious views, etc.
Now ... as far as trying to "police everything they see or hear" ... children receive information through the various avenues provided to them. If a parent provides a child a computer to use, the parent absolutely can have some influence over what the child is exposed to. Same goes with television ... the parent provides the television set and the cable or satellite (or even the antenna in some isolated situations). A parent CAN effectively monitor what their child is exposed to. But more importantly would be that the parent teach their child that every human being deserves respect ... just as that child should expect to receive respect from their fellow human beings. Being taught that there are people in this world who do not subscribe to the same views/opinions of each and every other person is not 'brainwashing,' and is not trying to force homosexuality onto anyone. All "tolerance" teaches us is that we should be willing and able to accept other human beings as just that, human beings, and to show each of those human beings the same level of respect that we, in turn, expect from them.
And finally, to suggest that gays are trying to "get their agendas imposed on us by the passage of laws-same sex marriage, domestic partner benefits" is not only a distortion of what gays are striving for with respect to the laws in this country, but is also an exaggeration of what gays are, legally, trying to accomplish. Allowing gays to marry does not affect any other person, straight, gay, bi, trans, asexual, pansexual ... it does not affect any one else but the couple who wishes to marry. Allowing gays to marry does not IMPOSE ANYTHING onto you or anyone else. It is simply allowing two consenting adults of the same gender, who wish to have their relationship legally recognized in the same manner as straights have for centuries. Allowing same sex couples to have domestic partner benefits, again, does not IMPOSE ANYTHING onto you or anyone else. It simply allows a committed, same sex couple to, again, receive the same benefits that straight couples have enjoyed for decades.
Trust me, tired. Homosexuals do not wish to force anything onto you. Yes ... a gay person will certainly expect that you treat them with respect ... but there is no way, on this planet, that any homosexual is going to try to "force" you into accepting them. And however you conduct yourself towards gays will, hopefully, be the way that they will, in-turn, treat you.
My maternal and paternal grandparents were all right-handed.
This has nothing to do with religious persecution. The Pastor is not persecuting the religion of anyone in this particular case. He and his followers are using their brand of religion to condemn an entire subset of people regardless of their religious beliefs. None of us ought to use this poor excuse of a pastor(and his congregation) to criticize all of Christianity.
The pastor, Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Hitler and Gaddafi are cowards. All of them, including this "pastor", stood behind the safety of a podium to condemn enormous groups of innocent people. I think this man "doth protest too much". His congregation and defenders should keep a very wary eye on him. Time will prove him to be a huge embarrassment to all that endorse or defend him.
Homosexuality "forced" upon them? I have Christianity forced upon me all the time. Christian singles.com commercials, people harassing me and my family at our door regularly asking if i have found jesus? I didn't know he was lost, but i guess he was just hiding from you! Now this preacher wanting concentration camps, be christian or die, and you have the nerve to say homosexuality is forced on you?
He was hiding behind the sofa the WHOLE time!
just another kook hiding behind religion to justify hate, bigotry, and immorality
To 90% of the posters here:
"For those who would hunt monsters, be careful that in the process you do not also become a monster. For when you look into the abyss, the abyss also looks into you." Nietzsche
A standing ovation to a hate preacher; now is easy to understand how millions of Germans stood by Hitler.
Well romilio, most of the hate in this comments section is clearly one sided. Ideally in the US people are allowed to believe in any religion or non-religion they wish without others telling them they can't do it. Or if you are criticizing Germans or Nietzsche, Nietzsche was critical of antisemitism and nationalism. It was his sister's rewriting of his works that was used by the Nazis. Regardless, it doesn't negate his admonition. If you are just hating on Germans, check out Baron von Steuben, Albert Einstein, etc.. If you are just hating in general and can't stand anything that disagrees with your point of view, read "Prisoners of Hate" by Aaron Beck, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Oh forget about all these lofty ideals.
This is exactly why the racists, the religious intolerant bastards get away doing stuff that they do.
If they knew that their bull@!$%# will be returned by the normal people a thousand fold they will stop doing it.
for example - if everytime a 100 neo-nazis gathered at some place and they were met by a crowd of 1000 people who just'd swoop down on them and break every @!$%#ing bone in their bodies - next time there won't be any neo-nazi rally. Instead - you all just stand there and shake your head at them while feeling so proud of yourself at giving these vermin the FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
If this stupid ass preacher knew that this kind of hate mongering will be met by a crowd of people throwing stuff at his house, breaking his windows, slashing his tires and perchance even beating his fat ass with a baseball bat, he will be more circumspect in what he says.
But no ....we are going to sit and quote the @!$%#ing Nietsche while these rightie mother@!$%#ers keep spreading their poison.
Well GungaDin, I understand that you are angry, but, if you review the rhetoric you are using and the tactics you are proposing, you will find that they are very similiar to those used by demagogues and fascists. The Nazis used the word "vermin" to describe the people they wanted to get rid of just as you have used it. The KKK in the US used physical violence, secrecy and intimidation to keep the "vermin" quiet.
Some might feel that what you are proposing is anarchy and certainly not conducive to maintaining a free society. It's ironic that you have chosen the pseudonym, GungaDin. Kipling's poem honors a man who continued to perform his duty with honor and courage even under duress.
sigh ...Pandora ...i fear for you and the world. You are too nice for your own good and you are not going to win over these people by your niceness.
Gunga--everybody in this country is entitled to FREEDOM OF SPEECH. What happens when it's taken away from those people who don't happen to have the same opinion as you? Pandora is exactly right, like it or not.
What are people really afraid of with gay marriage? I happen to think that they doubt their spouses' sexuality and are afraid that their spouses will leave them:
http://bonosrama.newsvine.com/_news/2012/05/29/11894045-what-are-anti-gay-marriage-proponents-really-afraid-of
Gunga.. When you start opposing individual rights one of the first to go is freedom of speech. That almost always means any speech that is critical of the ruling system. What you are suggesting is critical of the system we live in. Therefore, you'd be quickly rounded up along with all of those you are so angry against.
Marge and TN Rebel,
The right to Freedom of Speech is not absolute. As per Oliver Wendell Holmes if the language is intended to incite violence or illegal action presenting a Clear and Present Danger there is no guarantee of freedom of speech. Also Chaplinsky v New Hampshire on Fighting Words. Also it may be limited in time of war. Advocating concentration camps for US citizens seems about as hateful and provocative as one can get.
First they came for the Socialists and I did not speak out because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Next they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.
Written by Martin Niemoller a prominent protestant Pastor who spent 7 years in a variety of concentration camps ending up in Dachau. He found himself and other clerics guilty of fostering an atmosphere conducive to the rise of evil in the name of nationalism using long held prejudice's and stereotypes to enable repression.
Substitute homosexuals, liberals, blacks or immigrants for Jews and you pretty much have the ideal social engineering of the American radical fundamentalists who control the GOP.

Even if you are against gay marriage, this pastor doesn't at all represent what Jesus would do. Jesus loved and offered hope to everyone. This pastor is a disgrace to the ministry.
Does this love and hope involve discriminating against homos? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't if Jesus existed today.
The same Bible loved by this "pastor" would also denounce him and say he is not a child of God. And to use Paul's words, this man is not controlled by the spirit of God. Therefore, he speaks for another spirit. God does not incite people to hate. Independent pastors do not have a vetting process which many Christian denominations have. In that tradition, anyone can call himself a minister "called by God" and have a church ordain him. You note also from this man's words, he is very poorly educated. Mainline denominations now insist their ministers have a good education (college, seminary, meaning a bachelor's degree and a master's degree as a minimum). This man is not a Christian as defined by the new testament he supposedly teaches. He is not spiritually gifted. And he does not even live a life of love as taught by Jesus. Hopefully, the IRS will follow up with this church. But he would love that, as it will make him appear to be a martyr for the cause.
If you want to see this type of thing die out, then the newspapers should ignore the types of cretins who spout such vicious idiocy.
This "Preacher" is no better than the radical Imams in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan whose main goal is to get someone in the Western press, who is having a slow news day, to report what they are saying and portray them as someone worthy of note couched in terms of the potential threat their viewpoints portend.
Imagine if no one had reported this story; then the only people who would know about it would be his fellow bigots - who, incidentally, are all going straight to hell - assuming there is one.
I wonder how they're going to feel when they get to the other side and find out hating your fellow human beings is not an option, if you want to get into heaven!
These types are as mis-guided as the suicide bombers who think they are going to be rewarded with 70 virgins for blowing up men, women and children. Yeah, sure.
Stoops2Conquer--I cannot agree. The sort of person who says this sort of thing eggs his flock into doing things like suiciding their teenaged children who come out as gay. Then, the whole community covers it up and acts shocked, shocked and dismayed and offended, when anyone comes forward to whom the teenaged children confided their fears.
When you understand this sort of community--and they say these things all the time; you might be surprised by it, but I am not--then you understand why it is that we need to make sure that the youth in such a community have people to whom they can reach out and need a place to which they can flee.
Right now, children in these communities, who either are gay or who are just suspected of being "gay" even if they are not, will commit suicide or are suicided by the community because they don't have a way of getting out. We need some laws to protect children from their families--because, right now, a teen is completely out of luck. That teen can hope not to be caught and killed, will commit suicide rather than being killed by others, or can run away and wind up being victimized--there are no positive options for him or her.
If these people only lived by themselves--then, yes, it would be fine just leaving them to their own stupid bigotry. But, these people victimize others. They also are the ones who provide money and support to the people who are not dumb enough to use sincere language to describe their hate--the "Focus on the Family" types are much better at using code words to describe the same ideology, and more easily hide their views.
No, we need to know what such people are up to--when you can find out what such people say to one another when they don't think that they are being over-heard (or when they are dumb enough to say it outright), you learn a lot. It isn't pretty--but it's important.
Its gonna be funny when this "priest" gets busted with male escorts
He wont get caught with male escorts, he will take a page from that other bastion of hate the Catholic Church and be found buggering little boys.
Rubert16: Hey"pot"-what's wrong with the kettle?
Priests haven't strayed yet from little boys, why should they start paying for escorts when they have unlimited supply of little boys in church?
A disgrace of a human being. He learned all the wrong lessons from the Bible.
That's the problem with the bible... it's so huge and patchwork and self contradictory that you can learn whatever lesson you want from it and then justify it as the word of god.
See the Newsweek article, "The Forgotten Jesus" by Andrew Sullivan, on Thos. Jefferson's personal version of the New Testament. Jefferson only included passages of what Christ actually said in Scripture. Not a thing about hating others, imprisoning them, and letting them die. Conclusion: this guy is not a "Christian" minister but something else.
Bill
Now you've complicated things... Jefferson was a deist, that is he held Jesus' teachings in high regard but did not regard him as divine... so really Jefferson was not a Christian and this pastor is. Christian doesn't mean you're a fan of Christ, it mean you believe he is the son of god and the key to salvation.
which is why so many on the outside looking in want nothing to do with the Hate Group called christianity.
"He learned all the wrong lessons from the Bible."
Have you ever actually read the entire bible ?
What a brutal book. Just plain brutal. Horribly written by multiple authors. Translated , re-translated , re-re-re- translated over thousands of years.
@Rational not religious. Well it was written by man. Cant get more brutal than people that are hungry for power. And they use the bible to this day to gain support for whatever power position they are shooting for. That's why all the politicians campaign at churches. They figure the people have already been brainwashed, so they are sure that they can convince those people that they are in their best interest.
Most of the lessons in the bible are WRONG. That's the problem with Xianity--it sometimes follows the bible and THIS is what happens.
Is not wrong lessons in Bible.
I don't necessarily believe the lessons in the Bible are wrong. These stories were written so that the uneducated, illiterate people of their time could understand. Nobody really believes Jonah was swallowed by a whale, right? Its a story, a fable to show uneducated people that God is there for you, no matter what happens. Most Protestant religions believe the Bible was inspired by God, written by Man. And translated thousands of times. So who knows how far fetched it really is. It could have started out as one short story , and all these people added to it.
I'm not a religious person, more spiritual than religious. I don't believe that God is a gray bearded man on a throne up in the clouds. but maybe that vision is as close to the truth as our human minds can understand.
I've read the book 7 times straight through in 3 years, nothing more than any academic would do in researching a subject. I also read several history books at the same time since the book and it's teachings have been used to influence millions to do many things. It is in no way a hateful book. Anyone who says it is hasn't read it. Oh there's plenty of hate in it, hate between people which has led to all sorts of miseries. Remember this and I know just about everyone does, the book claims there are 2 commandments that all else falls under. Violate those 2 and man is bringing upon himself misery. You people that call for love are in error when you don't call for the commandment that must come before it, Love the Lord your God.
Because the country does not love the Lord their God hate is the fruit. You don't like what this preacher has to say, love the Lord your God first and he will go away. Can't do that though can we, we're separated. Hate will grow into blood shed and that will involve cannibalism. Just history. In the end things always go back to the beginning and the beginning wasn't a gay world. Gay worlds are always the end of things.
You could start reading the book and history while your free to do so, or keep living in hate, up to you, for now.
Did ya see the news about Buchanan being the first gay president? You might want to read up on what the first gay president did and for the country. Right off the get go he brought the country into our bloodiest days ever, the end of things. Seems these days are leading up to a reset.
(lack of factual)History Addict. I have also read your book many times - raised on it in fact. And there is a lot of violence and hate. It is a blood-soaked book. Seems to me, people relying on it as their only source of ethos will bring "the end of things" faster than anything else.
That is quite a bizarre rant history addict.
NOTFIVEO......Can you believe that rant.......? I am a historian.........what a delightful twist on the bible....Here all the time I only appreciated all the begatting and begotting and knowing. Just one question..is history addict talking about ..oral sex .....or his he literally talking cannalbalism?
Man is god...Man creates man(life), man takes life away, and sometimes man can restore a life.....no faith needed....it is a fact.
And you think that was because he was gay? Wow. What a grand-canyon sized leap of logic right there. I can't even formulate an argument against it, because it's not even wrong.
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Not_even_wrong
This was a country that was founded, specifically, on religious freedom. Not Christianity. For a history addict, you sure skew history quite a lot.
Ericoo38---Don't think the implication was that Buchanan caused bloodshed because he was gay, rather that he wasn't a Christian whom everyone seems to want to blame for everything. Get off your high horse.
starsailing---You got some serious sexual hangups, man. Were you molested when you were a child in the Catholic church? Get into a good fundamentalist church (after you get counseling). Whew! You people have some serious hang-ups. Jesus can change that.
My maternal and paternal grandparents were all right-handed.

I have an idea, lets put that evil group of nazis behind an electric fence and let them try to survive. Apparently NONE of them read their bibles, Jesus would have been horrified at this kind of hate.
Bill C,
You might actually want to read the Jefferson bible which was presented to Congress for many years following its publication by his grandson. It is an initial attempt to view Christianity as a moral code without the magic of angels, resurrections, virgin births and the Divinity of Christ. He wished he had time to complete a full dissection of the bible into philosophy vs story telling but noted that he would not live long enough and instead wrote the Life and Morals of Jesus Christ. He corresponded with Joseph Priestly whose views on Christianity shared a common vein. Priestly published The Institutes of Natural and Revealed Religions as a blueprint as to how he thought as a Unitarian minister Christianity should be viewed.
jkh
He's got a bible, and has been a preacher for 53 years? Somehow, I doubt he's ever read that bible...
No I'm pretty sure he has actually....and he seems to be following its word much more closely than the "choose what you like" Christians these days. Either way though, it's just as dumb and ridiculous.
Unfortunately, spoone, he's read it and is following it quite well. Look closely, you'll find hatred in there towards women, different races, many other peoples, too -- not just gays. And you don't have to look very hard. That crap is pretty easy to find. Quite honesty, it's a very filthy, hateful cult book.
nah he read it, but before he does, he does 3 hits of acid, smokes some crack and gets his German Shepard Sam to lick liver snaps off his crotch while watching gay porn between verses. It's just how a good Christian Baptist does it when doing acid to suppress his homosexual desires. !
Frog, he's only taken part of it, just like you. The book is a Mosaic and can only be seen when taken in it's entirety. The hate you only see is what the book uses to prove man is undone. What you don't see is the book tells how that state is redeemed. It is the purpose of the book.
Homosexuality is wrong and everyone deep down knows it. It's love alright, love of self gratification. Even if the whole world was gay people would still commit suicide because the conscience would still convict.
By your same logic lack of history addict... oh nevermind. What's the point in inflicting logic on you? You'll just avoid it like any other attempt at reason.
Explain why self-gratification is wrong when it doesn't involve harming others.
Spartan...didn't anyone tell you because you will go blind?
LOL I see what you did there...
No, it's the same love that a heterosexual feels for their significant other. It is driven by the same neurotransmitters, it works the same damn way. And for that matter, I would argue that a straight person pursues sex largely for self-gratification as well.
That is blatantly hypocritical. Get off your high horse. Whether homosexuality is "morally wrong" or not, don't act as if YOU aren't driven by the same base, animalistic desires that all of us are - straight or gay. Nothing is more deceptive than lying to yourself every time you look in the mirror.
See, it really isn't though, and I strongly suspect that perhaps you either haven't read the Bible in its' entirety or are simply cherry-picking as most Christians these days do. The Bible is full of examples (primarily in the Old Testament) of God, not men, ordering or legitimizing rape, slavery, slaughter. It is full of examples of God exhibiting such petty human emotions as vengeance, anger, and jealously. I mean really, you'd think an omnipotent, omniscient being would be above such things - yes?
But no. That's exactly what's in the Bible. And if you deny it, then that is fine. But it's there.
Froggy---your hatred is showing its ugly head while you try to point out the hatred of others. Why do you think it is so much better on you? The Pastor hates gays, you hate God and Christians. Hate is hate and all hate comes from the devil, so that makes Satan, the pastor, and you like entities.
Bob Fossil - I suspect that much like this pastor, you've never read the Bible either. There are multiple references in there as to how God is to judge people, we are not to judge each other.
I somehow get the feeling that the pastor in the article would also have a problem with Jesus hanging out with prostitutes and tax collectors. It's ironic, that tax collectors might be play a pivotal role in the story of this hate-mongering preacher.
You mean there weren't any gay people in his church to heckle him?.......(shocking........)
Oh I guarantee there were some homosexual men in the crowd, but the type in that crowd would be the ones that hate the fact that they were born gay, and thus just do their gay thing behind closed doors and put up a front of hate in public. Happens all the time. Statistics show, wherever there's a crowd of 100 people, 4 or 5 will be gay.
Wow, another religious leader that does not believe god loves ALL thy children. Another shining example of the compassion of the love thy neighbor, cast no stone in anger worshippers.
First, to anyone who doesn't believe in the Bible or God of Christianity, this is not directed towards you, but those who try to follow what the Bible says.
If you truly care about a person's spiritual well being, you aren't going to let them continue in sin without saying anything. If a person doesn't believe people have spirits/souls, that's fine. They are entitled to their beliefs. However, people these days try so hard not to offend people to the point that they aren't willing to give constructive criticism. If someone is actually being rude and condescending about someone being gay, then problems can surface. People who actually care about another person's spiritual well being need to think along the lines of, "This may hurt, but I care for this person and I want to show them why this is wrong." This may be a different story for someone who doesn't believe in the Bible, as evidence that would work for you wouldn't work for them.
Now, if people are chastizing homosexuality to make themselves feel superior, then the intention is wrong, and their message is worthless. It must be approached out of love and concern. You hardly ever get someone to agree with you by yelling at and insulting them, and if this has happened to anyone, I appologize on the person's behalf.
In the Bible, it states that homosexuality is wrong. Before anyone ask about Jesus condemning homosexuality, let me put this point across. The Bible isn't a book of Jesus quotes. If only what he said mattered, the Bible would be far less important. Second, I don't know who else I share this with, but I believe the Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit. For the rest of the Bible, some could claim Holy Spirit qoutes don't support gay marriage. Thirdly, God is perfect. If he finds something to be sinful in the OT, I'm guessing it would still be sinful in the NT. Dietary laws and such were for sanitation. They way a sin is dealt with might be different, but it is still a sin.
Lastly, let me clarify the cast no stone quote. The group that approached Jesus with the adulterous woman wanted her to be punished. They were blood-thirsty. They cared less about the offense and more about the punishment. Those seeking to punish are unrighteous to God. If someone want another person to convert from their sinful way (homosexuality, drunkness, adultery, etc.) for the sake of turning to God, there is nothing wrong with that. Those seeking to punish are in the wrong.
Thanks for listening to my rant.
Rubbish. christians are frauds and liars.
there are more prohibitions against divorce than there are against gays, by threefold at least. yet, xians IGNORE those tenets -- any tenets, in fact, that would make their own lives inconvenient. they crusade against gays because gays are an easy mark. they are still "in vogue" for christians to hate. It's the manly thing to do. And I only bring up divorce as one example -- there are MANY others.
i've yet to meet a christian who lives their values (all of them) every day. but boy-o-boy, they love to hate on gay people!
In that case, the Bible is in direct conflict with the concept of freedom. You see, if you aren't harming anyone, your actions are acceptable by utilitarianism. If you're harming yourself (e.g. through drug abuse) you need help, not punishment. Since being gay (regular homos, not the Bruno sort) doesn't actually harm anyone, they should be allowed to do whatever they want.
Very good points, Frogmorton. Jesus is very clear about money, he's very clear about praying in private, and he's very clear on the notion of loving your neighbor as yourself, even loving your enemy and turning the other cheek. ALL cheerfully ignored by today's Christians.
My favorite is in the book of Matthew, when Jesus teaches that to be his disciple, a person should sell everything he owns, give to the poor, then follow Jesus. It's clear, it's unambiguous, and it's direct: Sell everything you own and give to the poor. Do you know ANY Christians who do this? Of course not. My thought is, if they REALLY believed Jesus was God, and they REALLY believed in eternal life, they'd do what Jesus commanded. I think deep down, many people realize that this life is all we get, so we better make it count.
SPARTAN,
There's something seriously wrong with you man. You start off making good points but then you ruin it all by saying things like;
First of all, all homosexuals have rights, even those who are more colorful. Second, colorful homosexuals, or that you so ignorantly call the "Bruno" type, do not harm anyone either. It's messed up that you come on here seemingly to speak against hate, then display hateful words yourself.
Ccmnxc
Hate is hate my friend nice try !
" God is perfect. If he finds something to be sinful in the OT, I'm guessing it would still be sinful in the NT. "
How absolutely funny ! Ok then how about Deut 21 :18-21 ?
Basically all that says is if your son misbehaves you are to stone him to death.
Is that a perfect god ? Abortion is BAD but filicide is ok ?
@VirginiaDemocrat: Have you actually seen that movie? I mean, would you be okay with straight guys behaving in an openly lewd manner to every girl they see? Being gay isn't an excuse for bad behavior, it's just a different sexual orientation.
frogmorton, I think you have EXACTLY right. Gays are the easiest target. Even people who don't have a problem with gays are willing to speak out too much because it's another group that is still somewhat tabboo in the sense that if you are hetero, you are afraid people may think you gay. I would love to see them go after a majority group with their nonsense and see how fast people react to them then
You are sadly mistaken - not everyone is a child of God! Only those that have repented of their sins (including the sin of homosexuality) and accepted Jesus Christ as LORD and SAVIOR. You can't create a Savior of your own liking - there is only ONE Savior, Jesus Christ, and we learn His laws in the Bible.
Dr. E
By that logic, I'm free to believe in a different god and I'll just get a different set of perks in the afterlife. Pastafarianism sounds great--if I behave myself, I'll be treated to an awesome beer volcano and a stripper factory in heaven.
drmark man decided what they think is sin. NOT god. And Jesus was about as real as Bugs Bunny!
These are Christians? It is depressing, degrading and disgusting that microminded people like the pastor and his congregants were instrumental in passing a NC constitutional amendment that is hateful and intolerant during a Primary vote that brings out less than 20% of the population. If I lived in NC I would consider suing the state for disenfranchising me.
@Frogmorton
I'm sorry you feel that way. I know I can only speak for myself, but most Christians I personally know (at least the ones who take their faith seriously) are great people and I am glad they are in my life. Personally, I'm Catholic, and my church still takes a strong stance against divorce. It may not be as obvious since it doesn't make the news and this subject does, but it is still there. Also, I have never heard one anti-homosexuality homily at my church. They are always talking about how to apply Scripture and Christ's teachings in our lives.
@rational not religious
It makes more sense if you know the setting. Israel was a theocray at the time. God's law was the law. If people began turning away from Him and doing what they wanted, they would surely gain followers, because the idea of doing what you want is rather appealing. Now remember, turning away from God is pretty much the worst thing a person can do, because it damages their spirit and makes it impure and unwhole. Having an impure and unwhole spirit is far worse than having and unwhole body. So now, imaginge there is a child who does not obey his/her parents. This isn't just misehaving or being rude. They have no regard for their parents truly God-given authority. Do you have any idea how attractive that would be to many people? "Do what you want, not what your parents or God wants. It will make you happy and fulfill you." That kind of thinking would cause the collapse of Israel because it would be going against its own laws. What would come of it? Anarchy, civil war. Humans prove again and again they are capable of this. I guess you could banish the kid, but that would most likely mean dying a slower and more painful death all alone. Also, these children had to be aware of their actions. This isn't a two year old not listening to his parents.
I guess I'll give you this challenge. Come up with a solution that fixes these problems and doesn't include killing or banishing the child.
Dr E, again with the mindless justification stuff. God sent down 10 commandments from the mountain. There was no old or new testament just 10 very simple to follow rules. Some creative dudes made up all the rest to control the masses as the gained their freedoms from bondage. Less we forget the very first commandment "Thou shall hold no god before me". From your comments it appears you might be in violation of God's very own word. Maybe you christians should remember your roots.
Frogmorton, let me get this strait you have been in contact with Christian that support divorce. No, Christian are against divorce and see it as destructive as I would assume most people do. That does not mean that it does not happen just something to try and avoid. Divorces happens all the time and I think it is safe to say that most people that have been through a divorces would not try and convince other people that it was a good thing for them and their family. Also people that have been through a divorce don't try and push non divorced people into saying it was OK.
The problem lies in the gay community trying to force people to accept their life style as OK. There is a difference in not accepting what some does as right and forcing your views on someone as this pastor has suggested. I don't believe that divorce is good and think every attempt to avoid it would be wise, that in no way makes me a bigot. I can still live, work and socialize with people that are divorces. It should be the same with gays. I don't have to agree with what they are dong in order live, work or socialize with them.
Duval, I don't think there is a problem that the gay community is trying to force people to accept their lives as ok, I think they just want their legal rights, just like you and I have. Nobody is forcing their gayness on you. If they had marriage equality, inheritance rights, child custody rights, etc. I think they would just as soon have you leave them alone to live their lives as they wish. They certainly don't come after you and think that you have to become gay. Nobody is hiring for gay people, nobody is thinking their gayness is going to rub off on you. they just want the same rights you have, and then leave them alone. they aren't trying to force anything on you.
Oh for crying out loud.
1. You cannot prove your cult god even exists.
2. Stop suggesting that you know how this god thinks and feels, based on a silly cult book.
I'm not.
Cheers!
You are right and they should be given the same rights. That does not mean that I must accept being gay as an OK lifestyle. As soon as someone says that they don't believe that the gay lifestyle is right they are labeled as uneducated hateful people.
My point was you can disagree with someones lifestyle without taking away their rights.
Rubbish! There are christian divorce lawyers that actively advertise in church newsletters, and the churches sell them ad space. And that is but one small example. Please, if you wish to debate this stuff, stop telling lies!
Also, please note carefully exactly what I said, above,a nd stick to the primary argument i'm expressing. The cult book, BuyBull, expresses anti-divorce sentiment threefold for what it says about gays. And the anti-divorce directives come from WHO? the jesus-myth! The guy whose words you're supposed to adhere to more than anything else!
So, what do you do, collectively, as mainstream American christians? You don't protest divorces, you don't try and outlaw them like you do gay marriage, you don't spend millions and millions and millions of dollars trying to legally ban them. yet, jesus never said one word about gays, and you go after gays as if that's all the jesus-myth ever talked about.
You people are filthy goddam hypocrites to your own values. And you are too cowardly to admit it. You dance around your little dance when you reply to me!! You virtually ignore the prohibitions and tenets of your jesus myth, and you crusade on matters that weren't even important enough to him for him to include them in his teachings!
Do you name yourselves "christians" after christ, or are Saul of Tarsus' mindless ramblings and hate-mongering more important to you? Why don't you name yourselves Saulians? Or Leviticans...since those tenets are what really matter to you!
More bull-crap. Gays are seeking One Thing Only: equal government recognition/equality under the law. They don't give a tinker's damn if you ever go to one of their weddings, or if you think they're ok. They want nothing to do with lowlifes like you, just like you don't want to be around them.
Again, if you want a meaningful debate on issues like this, stop telling lies and uttering nonsense.
@ccmnxc: You're labeling things as a God-given right without realizing that those in power may not be doing a good job. Respect and authority need to be earned. And "doing what you want" isn't necessarily a bad thing--what's wrong with having fun without harming others (or yourself)? There are plenty of archaic rules in the Bible that simply need not apply in a modern, free society. Besides, if there's indeed a god that's as powerful as the Bible claims, Earth would seem utterly insignificant in comparison. Let's not forget that this god is also one that wiped out Egypt (i.e. committed genocide) AFTER ensuring that the Pharaoh follows a certain course of action that he supposedly didn't like.
Frogmorton, I thought I was stinking to the subject you mentioned that divorce is mentioned more in the Bible than gays and I stated that in my experience Christians don't advocate divorce. Not that it does not happen among Christians but that they would not advocate it as a good practice. I hardly see hardly see how that is as you say a "lie". Maybe you have seen some divorce lawyers advertising in Christian publications but I don't think that speaks for the mainstream Christians.
Has there been a post that said that Jesus spoke out against gays or are you putting words in people mouths? My guess is that they probably said the Bible said being gay was as sin, just like your favorite lying.
Just because I disagree with you on something does not mean that I am lying.
You mentioned that we people are all filthy hypocrites, no we (I am sure not all) just believe that the gay lifestyle is a sin. Your are right gays should be given the same rights as everyone else. I believe that lying is a sin, that does not mean that I have never lied. You obviously have a real problem with people lying but I am going to guess that you have been know to tell one or two. Does that make you a hypocrite?
There I hope I did a better job of staying on the issues.
I'm still not convinced that you can commit a sin by not harming anyone, including yourself, but I see your point.
That fine as long as I am not pushing my view on you it should not matter what I think is a sin and what you think is a sin.
Mountain Man...I swear to god it was 15 commandments...see above....
Although frogmortin was a little bit too vitriolic for my tastes (I prefer civil discussion, even among bigots), he made very solid points. And I think that you may have missed them entirely. He wasn't calling the vast majority of Christians hypocritical because they believe being gay is a sin since it says it in the Bible, he is calling them hypocritical because they disproportionately latch onto it while all-out ignoring other more importantly stressed concepts in the Bible. Presumably, because it is inconvenient for them.
So you disagree with divorce on religious grounds. Fantastic. Except that wasn't his point. His point was that most Christians don't. In fact, most of them embrace the concept morally - and whether you think so or not, they are certainly not speaking out against divorce publicly as they are against gay marriage. That's just the fact of the matter.
Now, I don't think he was calling you, specifically, a hypocrite. But as a Christian, and I assume, a human being who truly believes in their faith and would be saddened to find others blaspheming against it while claiming to be Christian - you must admit that the vast majority of people who claim to be Christian are outright hypocrites. In fact, most people are hypocrites. But a particularly annoying subset of them claim to believe one thing, and simultaneously do the other while putting everyone else down. That is, I think, what frogmortin was addressing.
This is ultimately what it comes down to:
Eloquently put.
Froggy says we can't prove our God exists. Why do we need to prove Him to you? Could you prove Einstein's theory to a lunatic? Froggy tells us to stop suggesting we know how our God thinks and feels based on a silly cult book. Did you say, "Stop"? I don't have the right to believe what I believe? No wonder you don't want to believe in God. You have made yourself god. And my silly cult book has outlasted anything you will ever write Mr. god (little g, because you are so insignificant). And from your rantings and some of the other so called enlightened ones who love to hate Christianity, your generalizations of Christians you have known tells me you haven't known many real Christians. Why don't you stop judging what you know nothing about? In the process, grow up.
@Spartan
Though I do believe people in power shouldn't abuse it, I was referring to the commandment of "Honor your Father and Mother," which unruly chilren obviously wouldn't be doing. I'd guess it is also trying to say that it normally shouldn't be up to the child whether his/her parents are properly using their authority or not.
deja-vu. wasn't it the self rightous and self proclaimed"spoksmen for GOD" who judged and conspired to end the life of another human being two thousand years ago? just saying! how can christians support the hatered of any other being when JESUS went against society's thinking of the time and befriended prostitutes and the leper's! you arrogant "christians, try to WALK the walk before you talk the talk. better yet ,follow the example and words of your JESUS and not the foolish rantings of men!

Two things Pastor Wormface,
1. If you took all the heterosexual men and put them alone in an electrified cage they too would die in 100 years and so would all the heterosexual women if they were in their own cage.
2. It's the heterosexuals who are giving birth to the gay babies.
what does this even mean ?
Agreed! My parents have 4 daughters. 3 straight and 1 gay. What good would it do to put me inside a fence? I didn't do the reproducing to begin with and don't plan to. Even if I did plan on it, there are no more odds on my giving birth to a gay child than anyone else. Hello! What ignorance.
I was thinking the same thing, but it seemed one of far too many errors in his thinking to list.
And since God does not make imperfections, these gay and straight people come from God.
Steve 1. Heterosexuals rarely have gay babies.
2. A society permeated with gayness entices children to go into the gay lifestyle. That's what
makes gay adults.
Why? You think it's more attractive or something?
Are you really that dumb? The vast majority of gay kids have straight parents.
I guess you really are that dumb.
Fascism will come to America wrapped in a flag carrying a bible...
You should put that in quotations! since it is a quote by Sinclair Lewis and not you. 'When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.'
Lewis said what you quoted, using the word cross.
lukewarm changed it, and made it his own saying -- and appropriate, given the discussion.
Cheers!
Lewis also said................................"HEY LADY"
He describes Auschwitz... and they cheered. I hope God forgives them.
which god? theirs? the one that inspired a Hate Book called BuyBull?
puh-lease...
Of course god forgives them. Even Hitler is in heaven. The only unforgivable crime is not accepting Christ.
Wrong, Fuel--flat-out wrong. If you actually read the Gospels, especially the parts in red--you know, the parts that that Jesus guy actually said--he pointed out that the only unforgivable sin is to sin against the Holy Spirit. Try again later once you've read your Bible instead of thumped it...
Conjuring Cat,
So this is wrong below?
In any event--Baptists say that 'once saved always saved', so you can become a Baptist for a day then drop it and do as you like--heaven is assured.
Thanks for proving my point, Fuel--that's from I John, one of the Epistles--NOT the words of Christ! Try again later...
OK--So that bit is wrong above. And we can toss out all the words other than those of Christ?---that would make a much easier read.
How about this:
Matthew 12:31-32, Jesus says to the Pharisees,
According to all the Protestant Churches that I know of, you just have to be baptized as a baby to go to heaven. None of this Bible thumping, tongues talkin' Evangelicals.
Bottom line: it all comes from an unprovable, mythical bronze-age cult book, that has been edited and rewritten more times than a Reader's Digest condensed story.
So, good luck with that!
Cheers!
I don't know of ANY Protestant churches that teach infant baptism. Babies cannot distinguish their sin nature and lack the ability to repent and ask for forgiveness from the Lord
Rev Larry Robinson
Imagine if you're born a convict. Does that sound like the work of a nice god? Or does it sound like something that only happens in North Korea?
"Hitler is in heaven?".............................................FUEL....YOU BEEN SMELLING TOO MANY FUEL FUMES.....Your church is not a church anyone should belong to. How would you even know that he asked for forgiveness and /or was forgiven.........?..............Don't worry Fuel, your local store is only temporarily out of tinfoil........Craziest line I ever heard on religion...................
starsailing,
Read the bible or ask most Christians--they will tell you that there is only one unforgivable sin. And it's NOT genocide. As long as one accepts Christ as their savior heaven awaits. Hitler called himself Catholic, the church never banished him and in fact aided the Nazis escape capture at the end of WW2. So presumably Adolph did indeed embrace Christ. It's not for ME to determine what the claims of Christianity are, I just listen to what they tell me.
Larry, I was baptized as an infant (United Methodist church). I apparently threw up on the preacher, too, which I think is awesome, since many many years later in life, I renounced Christianity altogether (I was an ardent Christian for years) and became agnostic and fully rational. Ahhh, the sweet smell of pragmatism.
Perhaps that wasn't a full-scale baptism, though. Just a consecration ceremony or something... one of the many ridiculous rituals that churches dabble in. It's all just a bit silly when you think about it.
This has been the most ridiculous mish-mash of ignorant babble I have ever heard. You people know absolutely NOTHING about the Bible or Christianity. If you think a born-again Christian could do the things to Gods chosen people that Hitler did, you are too stupid for words. "Christian" means Christ-like. Would Christ try to destroy the nation of Israel? I have sat here for hours reading this ignoranting nonsense from people who would claim themselves to be intelligent and open-minded, but, my gosh, what a bunch of self-deceived bigots. You are not a bit different than the pastor you started off bashing. And all bashing on these sites eventually leads to Christian-bashing. Which tells me it has to be real, or else the devil would leave it alone like he does other religions. Whew! Unbelieveable!
Maybe that's what Christianity means to YOU, but there's the rub: Different "Christians" (self-proclaimed) have different interpretations, not only of the overall doctrine, but of individual verses of the bible! That's why there are dozens and dozens of different flavors of "Christianity," many of them wholly incompatible with others. So I'd suggest you get down off your high horse and stop thinking you speak for all Christendom.
Religion deserves to be "bashed," as you call it. For millennia, people have used religion to subjugate and control people, they've used it to steal and plunder, they've used it to murder, they've used it to terrorize. And Christianity is not excluded from that list. Is religion 100% bad? Of course not. But that's the problem with religion -- since you're placing your faith and trust in an unseen, unheard, and frankly imaginary being, people wind up just doing what THEY want to do, and ascribing it to "god's will" or "god's direction."
However, people are waking up, and people are pushing back. Rational-minded people seem to be fed up with folks who believe in non-existent magical beings running the show and dictating social policy.
“I figured a way out, a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers but I couldn’t get it pass the Congress – build a great big large fence, 50 or a hundred mile long. Put all the lesbians in there, fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals. And have that fence electrified so they can’t get out."
Spoken like a true man of God!! Didnt Hitler do something like that??
Hate the sin if you must, but love the sinner!
Tom
Some people are born gay. How can you hate they way they were born? That's like hating shortness.
And even if someone chooses to have gay sex, if both parties are consenting and respectful, why is that a sin? Because Leviticus says so? Well Leviticus also says to kill them.
Are you going to say that that's the Old Testament and not the New Testament? Ok then, there goes the idea of original sin...
It still seems weird that whatever Adam and Eve did would matter to modern humans. I mean, since when did crimes carry on to the next generation (except in North Korea)? When they took out Bin Laden, they didn't bomb the building and they treated the kids as innocent people, despite the fact that they were descendants of one of the most evil terrorists ever.
And Jesus said, "All the old has passed away." So much for Leviticus. If you Xtians were really Bible believers, you wouldn't be playing football or eating at Red Lobster.
Willow, learn that about which you speak. The sin of homosexuality was also admonished in Romans and Corinthians--New Testament. There were some sins God considered wrong enough to bring forward. Most sexual sins were included. They cause disease, broken families, and unwanted pregnancies.
I'm glad he has a copy of the Bible but it's really too bad he didn't read it!
but the problem is the bible says something even worse than what he said.
"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."
Leviticus 20:13
If we don't have to take that passage seriously, how do we choose which ones to follow? How about we follow this moral code instead:
"Be nice to each other, try to love each other, and if you can't do that, at least try to respect each other." Who needs the bible?
smt: Actually, what you suggest is the basic teaching of Christ. Unfortunately, too many "Christians " prefer the Old Testament - perhaps because its a lot more cruel and bloody than the New Testament, somewhat like a video game. People who are unable to figure out how to behave themselves in society without someone or something telling them rely on this kind of ancient B.S.
bill
yes some of Christ's lessons are close to what I suggest... but don't forget that Christ was also an apocalyptic prophet who taught that the end of the world was near and to abandon your family if need be... and that only through him is salvation possible. Pretty weird stuff.
Despicable, disgusting, and scary - all in the name of God. Jesus had to have wept over this because some of his children are MONSTERS.
For a non-Christian, this may be difficult to relate to and therefore understand (no offense intended).
Spiritual wholeness and purity is far more important than physical wholeness and health, as it can have an impact for the rest of eternity. Now imagine...these people are living in the Israeli theocracy that is supposed to answer only to God. Then, people start to act out on homosexual impulses. It gets others to think, "If they can do that, why can't I?'' It is like a cancer in the sense that the idea for doing what you want and turning away from God spreads to other people. It is so much more tempting to do what you feel you should than what Godd feels you should. Eventually, most of the population turns away from God, and thier spiritual wholeness and purity is compromised...which is pretty much the worst possible thing that can happen. These people cannot live in a kingdom where God is in charge, and then openly break these rules, because they'd take many more peopel with them. Sure you could banish them to the surrounding desert regions, but that is a far slower and more painful death than being stoned. After the Israeli theocracy broke apart into seperate kingdoms, and then was subsequently taken over by the Romans, the law didn't apply because it was no longer the law of the land.
Do I believe in stoning homosexuals today? No, I don't. If I lived in a country where God's law was the law, I'm not sure homosexual would be allowed to live there. We wouldn't stone them because not allowing them into our country wouldn't be condemning them to a slow painful death.
Wow. You're such a humanitarian. I guess gay people should kiss your filthy goddam feet...
By the way. Come back when you can prove your cult god exists. And, when you can prove that the silly goddam cult book that you call BuyBull was actually inspired by this cult god of yours.
New testament, old testament, nothing but edited and re-edited passed down books which contain a series of short stories about the same subject matter that for the most part end with, "and it came to pass", no explanations or endings...........How does one follow and worship such a sometimes irrational book ? Why not just follow the advise of thy conscience, the text of rules and guidelines god placed within at first breath ?

@Frogmorton
Forgive me for trying to make a point. I'm pointing out that though I believe in validity in the OT, I'm not going to be following the same guidelines for punishment as they did back then.
Also maybe you'd like to prove to me miracles don't happen and that everybody who has claimed to have witnessed or been part of a miracle is a liar or hallucinates a lot. Prove that everything I have experienced and lived is in my head and it is all a big lie.
Though if you have any questions you just need to get answered, here's a good site: Yes it is a Christian site, because you wouldn't ask anyone else about what we believe and why.
@Ellis
That's not the Bible I know. And just for clarification, do believe in God? I see you mention God, but I can't tell if you believe, are a deist, etc. Thanks.
Frogmorton, you are a bitter man. You might want to try some anger management classes. I think you and this pastor may be more alike than you think.
Sorry -- in this lifetime, I was already asked to prove that Leprechauns don't exist. I had no idea that disproving someone's unproven assertion is impossible, without overturning every rock in the universe and going to the depths of every ocean on every planet to make sure that a Leprechaun doesn't exist anywhere -- and by jiminy, until i can prove they don't exist, the rest of us must assume that they do!
Whatever. Great logic there, folks!
Please -- ask someone else to spend the time Disproving yous UNPROVEN assertion(s).
Cheers!
dude. when i see someone in America, talking like Hitler, condemning millions of American citizens based on their sexual orientation, and trying to further deny them equality under the law in our Constitutional Republic because they think that everyone must adhere to the silly tenets of a filty, mythical cult book...
...I admit it. It makes me angry. Things like that do make me very angry. I can only wonder what makes you angry...maybe someone stealing your banjo, or interrupting an Archie Bunker bigot-monologue during an All in the Family rerun you are watching...
But, bona fide citizens in this country being treated like second class citizens. Yeah, it pisses me off. and these Hate Sermons from Hitler sound-alikes make me realize what filthy lessons people are teaching their kids in BuyBull-home-school classes.
yeah, it pisses me off, Duval. And, I daresay my anger and bitterness in a case like this is justified.
@ccmnxc: Even if supposed miracles did indeed happen (which is highly unlikely), you gotta realize that people back then didn't perceive things in a rational manner. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, so if an alien or time-traveler did something that looked cool enough, ancient humans would call it magic. David Copperfield, for example, made the Statue of Liberty vanish at one point. Why don't you worship him?
Frogmorton, the problem is that your anger is misplaced. You take your anger out on people you think, in your mind support this lunatic pastor. Yes, I have seen a few people that seem to support his statements but very few. To set the record strait I don't agree with him. He is spewing hate and surely should not be cheered on. I would be all for him getting a visit from the IRS.
Yes and I did love Archie Bunker. You know that was Hollywood, right.
Where did Jesus get the idea to be god?.......from the guy he heard about a few years before him. He was "nipped in the bud Andy." Killed also before he could get the followers jesus had. starsailing,
Nice concatenating...a breath of fresh air really. :)
Culheath....Why thankyou...it comes from watching the Marx Brothers(comedians for those who are thinking political thinking), listening to Neil Young and the Moody Blues since time beginning, being in a MASH unit and watching MASH, and growing up in the twisted world of being a catholic.
Favorite cathlic memory: I was 12, dad had heart attacks at work, they shocked him back to life 8 times. Priest was called in to give him last rights, all of us 6 kids and mom saying we love ya dad, priest finds out from my mom dad was married for 6 months and divorced before he met mom. They were married 26 years...priest would not give him last rights until dad denounced his marriage to mom and then he would give him last rights....dad, built like the crusher, weakly gives the come closer wiggle of the finger to priest to say something to him, priests bends over, DAD grabs the priest by his throat and starts choking the bastard while swearing at him'Saying you want me to tell god loving my wife all theses years was a lie ? You son of a bitch..........! Took about 6 people to make dad let go.......Dad lived another 20 yrs and had numerous more heart attacks...........I was no longer a catholic in my mind from that day forward.
@Frogmorton
Intersting thing about miracles...they defy all the scientific principles we currently know. Kinda difficult to prove. In rejecting miracles, you make the claim that all who claim they have experienced a miracle is a liar or a lunatic. Do you have anything to back this assertion up? Of course not every single miracle claim is true, but that doesn't mean that none are true.
@Spartan
Though it would be difficult to tell the difference between some miracles and natural occurances, I am also referring to miracles thaty date up to the present. People experience them every day. It doesn't have to be something big like a mountain uprooting itself and flying into the sea. It can be personal too.
Starsailing . . that is a really awful story, fortunately your father had the strength left to get it right!! But are you sure it is the fault of the theology as opposed to a misguided priest??
I have been reading some of your posts and I think I understand you.
I bet NANCY PELOSI Looks FANTASTIC in a "Habit"!!!
Truth....I prefer Barbara Boxer to the other choices. No califlower ears for me......nuns used to have to pull me off the older school bullies when the bullies picked on the younger guys. Our Father Coleman actually was a pro boxer turned priest. Used to punch the guys for getting C or worse on report cards. I was brought up watching the fights on tv twice a week(brought to you by Gillette)since I was 4. I got some c's and Kenny and me were never punched by "Fighting Father Jimmy Coleman." I was too quick for the nuns too. Once had a sword fight with Sister Fortunata with the pointer sticks with rubber tip bullet on the end. I made the chalk squeak on the black board......so she came flying(flying nun) across the room with the pointer and I picked up one from the ledge. Yes , I was trained by watching Errol Flynn movies, so after blocking Fortunata's attempts to stab me she finally started laughing with the class. So my politics come from watching the rich who steal from the poor, the rich and powerful who oppress the middle and lower class, political bullies who buy the politicians, and it makes me resolved to right the wrongs of those who commit the wrongs. Gene, Hoppy, Roy, Vern Gagne and my dad were my heroes. My dad helped everyone all his life and had little material things when he died. My brother is a millionaire with hard work. But he hates everthing he owns, his family, food, everything, because of his greed. Never happy with anything. Most unhappy person I know. I see many on this post worship Trump and his towers. People like Romney, Gingrich, Ryan, Bachmann, Cantor are not heroes for those who believe in truth , justice, and the American way......Oh yeah, baseball, hot dogs, and Chevrolet. They all tout religion and act the least like the person they call their god.......more than shameful.
P.S. When dad survived the bad heart, his new best friend in the bed next to him was Father Kelly from Winnepeg who watched dad choke the priest. Father Kelly learned a lot from dad those 6 months in the hospital and mended his ways.
Starsail . . it sounds to me like you have a lot more in common with John Boehner than Barbara Boxer. Haven't you heard his stories of how he grew up poor, one of 12 kids in a blue-collar Catholic family, helping sweep the floors of his father's pub? I have no doubt that his tears are sincere and for the people. (Perhaps he is another tortured Catholic??) Really I think you would find him quite likeable . . and I doubt the Democratic party leaders, Pelosi, Reid, Obama are as much like you as you think.
Check out this link (biography.com/people/john-boehner-20656041) put in the http and www. He cries because he knows what most people live like and what it took for him to fight his way to where he is. And I rarely have heard him speak of religion! But if you really like the Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi types then I guess you will have them since they will undoubtedly continue in power and have already been ruling your party like the undead for the last hundred years.
Also, just wanted to correct you on your 13th commandment. It was War Admiral that Seabiscuit beat. I know bc Seabiscuit is one of my favorite books and I have a horse. She is a mare, retired race horse; I think you would like her.
(Final thought Starsailing.... we are all going to die, the question is, did the Catholic schools teach you how to live??! My guess is that is what your father intended).
P.S. I snapped this picture of this dog on Bourbon Street, isn't he marvelous?!!! Correct your 13th commandment to read War Admiral !! (and stop crying . . . like Boehner!!) Have a great week : )
That's pretty ironic considering that King James was a homosexual. Worley and his congregation are dumber than a box of rocks. And apparently proud of it.
Or maybe they're too stupid to know that they're stupid?
Oh yeah, I had forgotten that King James was gay. Thanks for the chuckle & reminder
Of course they don't know that King James was gay. I doubt that many of the people in that congregation really know who he was ... when he lived, how he came to power, the theological environment that prompted him to commission that version of the bible that bears his name. The might know he was a king of England, but that would be about it.
QUESTION: I have been told that King James was a homosexual. Is this true?
ANSWER: No.
EXPLANATION: King James I of England, who authorized the translation of the now famous King James Bible, was considered by many to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, monarchs that England has ever seen. Through his wisdom and determination he united the warring tribes of Scotland into a unified nation, and then joined England and Scotland to form the foundation for what is now known as the British Empire.
Such a man was sure to have enemies. One such man, Anthony Weldon, had to be excluded from the court. Weldon swore vengeance. It was not until 1650, twenty-five years after the death of James that Weldon saw his chance. He wrote a paper calling James a homosexual. Obviously, James, being dead, was in no condition to defend himself.
Wow, really? You've clearly not done much research outside of right-wing propaganda sites.
Try typing 'was king james gay' into google and doing some reading. He was a blatant, flamboyant, and unapologetic homosexual who basically argued it was okay because Jesus was also gay.
Not surprising because most religious folks live in a completely fabricated fantasy world of propaganda and lies, so ...
Just another reason not to attend or otherwise pay attention to the organized church. So far astray from the gospel.
Unfortunately, they aren't. fact is, that gospel/cult book is a filthy, hateful POS, and they are following some parts of it quite well. They just tend to ignore the parts that would make their own lives inconvenient, like most of mainstream christianity.
Isn't anyone going to talk about the good part in the bible? You know....begattting........!
These people are the equivalent of the radical Islamists. God wills it! NOT!
Seeing as they are not radical, that statement doesn't make much sense.
The statement makes perfect sense. Two groups of people letting their literal belief in an ancient text override their natural sense of human empathy.
standing up and cheering someone who talks like hitler? that isn't radical??
how f'ed-up can you possibly get?
putting people in an electric fence and applauded some very hateful comments seems pretty radical to me.
Perhaps radical by the dictionary sense, but when you compare them to radical Islam, it doesn't meet the same criteria. I don't see them killing people. They aren't becoming martrys for what they believe. They don't threaten violence to everyone who isn't on their side. Sure it is radical compared to what we normally see. Radical Islam is on a whole different level though.
Tell that to Matthew Shepard or any of the other gays beaten or burned to death by those sweet Christian bigots throughout history.
What do you think this preacher and cheering audience just did?
No it isn't...in fact, it's exactly the same. There is very little difference between the zealotry of the Taliban and the Evangelical. They may be wearing different T-shirts but they are definitely playing the same game.
Tell that to Matthew Shepard or any of the other gays beaten or burned to death by those sweet Christian bigots throughout history.
Killing may not have been the best word. How about massacring thousands at home and abroad, and killing bystanders because they are just there.
What do you think this preacher and cheering audience just did?
They aren't blackmailing and pointing a gun at their heads demanding them what to do. It is wishful thinking (I hope) because that would be an incredibly difficult thing to do without government support. They are empty threats.
No it isn't...in fact, it's exactly the same. There is very little difference between the zealotry of the Taliban and the Evangelical. They may be wearing different T-shirts but they are definitely playing the same game.
They may want things along a similar line, ut the Taliban has proved it is willing to do whatever it takes to acheive its ends. I have yet to see that from this group.
Just like with the Nazis, the sort of thinking that leads to death camps can only come from a religious mind.
If you are trying to say that Hitler was a person who worshipped a god, you're wrong. Hitler told everyone that he was a god (or the Messiah), but Hitler didn't like any other religion.
Random:
Some Hitler quotes for you:
"I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.."
"What we have to fight for is the necessary security for the existence and increase of our race and people, the subsistence of its children and the maintenance of our racial stock unmixed, the freedom and independence of the Fatherland; so that our people may be enabled to fulfill the mission assigned to it by the Creator."
"In short, the results of miscegenation are always the following: (a) The level of the superior race becomes lowered; (b) physical and mental degeneration sets in, thus leading slowly but steadily towards a progressive drying up of the vital sap. The act which brings about such a development is a sin against the will of the Eternal Creator. And as a sin this act will be avenged."
You're right. It certainly wasn't power or greed that influenced Hitler. It was definitely religion.
Um, Toasty, are you serious. Besides the fact that Hitler imprisoned hundreds if not thousands of religious leaders and the fact that he was a psychotic control freak, Hitler lived pretty much the opposite way of the teachings of Christ. Anyone can call themselves Christian, but that doesn't make it so.
He imprisoned christians because they were a threat to his state power. He threw atheists into the camps because they lacked his religion.
ccmnxc
Once again that's the problem... christianity like any religion is open to countless (sometimes contradictory) interpretations... who is to say who is the "true" christian and who is the false christian? You?
Nobody is saying that Hitler was motivated only by religion (even though his main target was... wait for it... people of another religion).
The fact of the matter is that Hitler was many things- a fascist, a racist, something of an occultist, and yes, also a Roman Catholic.
that includes about 200 million Americans. all a bunch of hypocrites and liars.
it really pisses you guys off, doesn't it, to know that hitler was a catholic and raised a catholic... it drives you guys nuts to recall and admit that the Pedophile Catholic Cult helped hundreds of nazi war criminals escape Allied capture after the nazi surrender, bringing them to non-extraditable countries, mostly in south america.
it just kills you people to admit that, doesn't it...
Thats the fun part ccmnxc . Ya got an ordained ministers of the Christian faith , being preaching for 50 plus years . Spewing Hate . When called out on that hate , Some other christian will say , OHHH he is really not a christian . I was Raised baptist , I read the bible cover to cover several dozen times . I saw the hypocrisy , that is organized religion . lived it for 16 years . Then i read the bible again , and saw that most lmao christians are in no way living that word . Yet There is always some sheep there to say , " OHH but he is not really a christian ". Your religion has NO place in my Government .
smt, Hitler thought that he was the Messiah sent by the lord, but just because he says it doesn't make it true. Hitler thought that everyone with blond hair and blue eyes were descendants from the gods (Greek Mythology), he believed that if everyone had blond hair and blue eyes, they would all turn into gods. If anyone believed something different than Hitler, Hitler would punish them.
Yes yes We know random he was not a christian because you said so . historical facts say otherwise . See what i mean ? There is always a chrisitian that will say He/You/They/ She/It was not a christian .
WE do not actually care who or what you care to pray too , If that makes you feel good . I Do Not care to live your christian taliban Bull Crap . Keep your fairy tales OUT of my government . The teabaggers are the sma people that signed up for newt "contract on america " and the same ones that where in the "immoral majority "
So it seems does this preacher man, and his congregants. And the mega church pastors who seem to have taken Jesus too literally when he spoke of the Kingdom of God as being like a treasure worth a thousand fold one's former life. And don't forget David Barton and his remaking of Jesus into a Tea bagger. But at least we can count on the Vatican being pure, right? LOL Still I guess it's better than when they were burning heretics at the stake.
The point is - this is not a theocracy, ccmnx. You can believe all that crap if you want to but it's not up to your brethren to "allow homosexuals to live" in this country. If you believe that, you and all the rest of the fundies should head off to Iran and live under the mullahs' interpretation of God's will. You'll fit right in. It's really the same thing, other than a few insignificant differences in rituals and prayers.
@smt1
Point taken. I guess I threw "True Christian" out a little bit carelessly. My point is that in title, sure, he's Christian. In practice, he doesn't strike me as anything any Christian would want to remotely strive to be.
@benji
I never have and never will say that those people and the Catholic Church are free of corruption. The Catholic Church is an institution that is run by humans and inevitably (especially when it holds total power) it sees corruption. However, I don't believe it is a contest to see who has done the least amount of damage in its existence to determine where my loyalties should lie. Am I proud of the Crusades or Inquisition? No. I'd never want it back. Also, I do not need a theocracy. I don't think instituting a theocracy will have much of an effect on the individual, which is what I think needs to be focussed on.
Carpenter, Hitler didn't like organized religions. If you want to know more, go to http://constitutionalistnc.tripod.com/hitler-leftist/id2.html
This pastor and his congregation are not Christians. As least not what I would call true Christians. They sound more like members of the old John Birch Society. They hated everyone except white males. In the South I think they are call KKK. We need separation of Church and State and this certainly proves that point otherwise we may very well end up as a Fascist country.
Carpenter7, so the US government is your government, what about the other millions of Americans that vote?
Saying that you are something or believing something and being it are two different things. For instance you keep say it's your government when actually it is ours. I don't think it is to much of a stretch to say that Hitler was probably not a Christian, but then you knew that just like you know that this is not just your government.
Duval, by ours you mean a secular govt. right? Because that is the only one we will have. Just Saying!
I am a Christian but I am not proud of my religion...God is about love and forgiveness
If Jesus was walking the earth today...he would be hanging out and having dinner with the
pedophiles, homosexuals, prostitutes, murderers, drug dealers, pimps that's what Jesus did
he hanged out with the sinners and converted them..(not buy passing judgment on them or telling
them they should be killed or stoned or that they were gonna die for there sins) by example. If
you pass judgment or throw that first stone...if you can't forgive...if you cant love your neighbor
like your self...and love your god with all your heart and soul you will not make it into heaven.
By his actions that reverend has shown he is no different than the Pharisees who executed Jesus or
the priest's from the inquisition...and unless he repents he will end up in the same place as them.
@Chris
Correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my viewpoint on this.
First Jesuswas often telling people to sin not more. He meant it too. He accepted them and loved them, but he also told them to stop doing wrong. If you truly care for the person and want them to turn to God, I don't think keeping silent is the way to go.
Just My Two Cents
The scary part is that these people expect this country to be run by those same rules
Pray the gay away with high voltage?
Seriously, their idea of a "cure for homosexuality" is to basically torture kids until they stop acting on their natural urges. That's a very special sort of sick.
Christianity is a special sort of poison.
You are soooooooo WRONG that's it I want to say.
His congregation must have a collective IQ of about 19
You have accidentally complimented them.
You must think he has thousands worshiping every sunday......
I don't know which is more sad: 1.) The absolute stupidity that makes a man think that sequestering the gays will keep them from reproducing (uh, yo dumbass, they aren't going to have sex with the opposite gender, they're GAY!, or 2.) the fact that there are so many mental misfits in one organization, and that they all think alike!
I think this @!$%# and his @!$%# followers should be kept from reproducing even more mental misfits!
dam so well said.
As a Christian, it sickens me when I read stuff like this. He is no different than any other radical muslim. He's so far removed from the word of God it's pathetic.
rob
I'm glad to hear you're more modern than this guy, but the tricky thing with religion is that now you are claiming that you know god's word and he doesn't... based on what? The interpretation if the bible or any religion for that matter is so easy to personalize that what we need is to keep these personal opinions out of the courts and out of our laws.
What bothers me about the outraged christians (outraged by things like Worley, that is), is that they don't come out publicly and denounce these fascists. They never insist that those jerks no longer call themselves christians. In fact, most will quietly allow it, because they know it grows the numbers in their religion, in spite of the fact that it also twists the religion into a religion of hatred and fascism. In other words, "Physician, heal thyself."
William you are correct. These people are not Christiasn. The Old Testament is filled with rules that became irrelevant after the New Testament. So he does not even understand the true Christian faith. I think there are many fringe churches like his that have not embraced Christianity in the words of Jesus. Not to get all religious because I am not part of Worley's extremist belief system. A belief system based on hatred stems from hatred. So sad that people actually think that way. Presiden Lincoln where are you today when fools are dividing our country???
rob -- which interpretation of which god? the BuyBull? which unprovable cult god are we talking about?
therein lies the problem.
when it comes to the BuyBull, he's actually acting on a popular interpretation of scripture -- why do you think so many states ban gay marriage, and why do you think so many BuyBull believers in America hate gays? this guy speaks out loud what millions of American christians actually feel and think, but are too cowardly to openly admit. they have no problem crapping all over gay people, though, and pulling any lever in a voting booth that limits their rights, and smacks them down to second-class citizenry. that's just as hateful and hurtful as this lowlife's speech to his congregation.
If the Old Testament "became irrelevant" after Jesus, then why are we still printing and reading it 2,000 years later? Seems rather relevant to me. After all, Jesus himself said that he came to fulfill the old laws, not to abolish them, and that "not one letter, not one stroke of one letter will pass away until all has been accomplished." Isaiah 40 also says that the "word of the Lord shall stand forever."
Seems a bit of a stretch (or perhaps wishful, apologist thinking) to say that the Old Testament's laws have been irrelevant for 2,000 years.
Here's a new twist: the entire bible is irrelevant. It's fictional, it's immoral (the endorsement and advocacy of slavery alone should render the entire book as rubbish, but throw in misogyny, animal sacrifice, cannibalism, and even human sacrifice, and it's just horrific), and while some of the lessons of Jesus were certainly good, they're also largely ignored by his followers. So I really don't see the point.
Its interesting how the Old Testament is considered irrelevant, until someone wants to quote a single passage from Leviticus. Of course, they ignore all the others.
Come on guys. Stop picking and choosing which biblical laws that you're going to obey. It should be a law that no one can use Leviticus to attack gays unless they also swear off shrimp and the mixing of fabrics, and stone their children for disobedience.
Finally, someone said it. If we are going to use some biblical teachings, why not all of them?
Barry-NJ
I think you will find that the evangelical terrorists reserve New Testament treatment (Forgiveness and kindness) to "their own." All others are treated as the Old Testament dictates (fire and brimstone). Definitely not the teachings that I grew up with...But hey, "It says so right here in the Bible..."
Boy, he's ignorant and so is his congregation. My parents were straight, I think. As a matter of fact, the parents of pretty much every gay person I know is (was) straight. Homosexuality seems to occur at the same rate as other recessive traits, such as lefthandness, and it is older than the Bible.
Wish we had more pastors like him to combat the immoral gay/lesbian crowd who the media love and who are gaining our middle school kids into their style by telling them it is OK - it is not OK - we need to let the kids know this and stop them from "choosing" this immoral lifestyle - yay for the pastor who had the guts to speak up against the gays - the gays lifestyle is a choice - for them to try to say they were born that way is just another lie to try to justify their rotten lifestyle - don't even try to guess what these people do behind closed doors - it is awful and not what relationships should be - they should be between a man and a woman not two same sex immoral creatures who chose this way.
