Days after being named teacher of the year at a Colleyville, Texas, school, a band director was arrested on accusations that he sent nude photos to a 15-year old-student.
John McDaniel, 32, is charged with solicitation of a minor online and carrying an improper relationship with a student.
McDaniel confessed to exchanging nude photos with a girl who was in his class at Colleyville Middle School last year, Grapevine, Texas, police said.
“The information we have is that there was some sexting going on, by way of the cellphone and some explicit emails,” Sgt. Robert Eberling said.
According to the arrest affidavit, McDaniel and the girl began chatting on Facebook two years ago. The victim told investigators that McDaniel told her she was pretty and wondered what she looked like naked. The affidavit goes on to say that she shared topless photos with him and he responded with a photo of his genitals.
Investigators said they have not found evidence of physical contact between the teacher and the former student, CBS DFW reported.
The victim's brother discovered one of the emails over the weekend, according to the affidavit.
“When you send your child to school, you hope they are placed in a safe, stable environment," Eberling said. "It’s unfortunate that this happens."
No one answered the door at the north Fort Worth home McDaniel shares with his wife.
McDaniel is out of jail on a $10,000 bond, but police said he could be arrested again if they find other victims.
“Unfortunately, when you are dealing these type of offenses and the people that perpetrate these offenses, generally there are other victims,” Eberling said.
McDaniel has been placed on administrative leave. He has served as head band director at Colleyville Middle School since July 2009 and just won a ‘Teacher of the Year’ award.
“If the police investigation substantiates the allegations, the district will immediately proceed with termination procedures," the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District said a in statement.

I'm not sure if this is inappropriate. I think he was teaching the student when he texted her. The course was Anatomy 101.

Hmm.. Have you noticed lately that the MAJORITY of these male/female teachers, priests, etc. that are accused of inappropriate behavior towards children are caucasian? Not trying to make this a racial issue, but just noticing the facts that have been proven for several years now.

This is truly a beautiful thing because now the only sexting this fool is going to be doing is with his new love interest up in the joint with the rest of the pervs!!!!! I can see him now playing drop the soap in the showers. What I need to do is send him pair of knee pads or more popularly known as Hollywood sandals so he can handle his business in more comfort. Geez. Aside from being completely wrong to corrupt a minor, why do dum dum's keep thinking they won't get caught? The appropriate response to any student requesting your personal cell number should always be "no".
I have known some good teachers.....however.....I also know at least 3 that only got into the profession because Daddy was gonna stop paying for their college unless they declared a major. The only thing they had ever done in their lives was go to school, so they decided to go into teaching and stay in school for ever. These people are generally the most coddled, overpaid, under worked class in society. I would love for this guy or some of these other teachers to come to the shop I work at and try some of their B.S..........they would be wearing their a$$ for a hat in a heart beat.

If this were my daughter I'd first whip her azz for even sending her goodies to a total stranger. THEN I'd go visit this so-called teacher of the year and turn him into a woman on a permanant basis.....

If you actually have a daughter you should know that many 15 yr olds DON'T look 15. How many have mosquito bites? My mom is a middle school teacher, those kids do not look like they are in middle school. A handful are knocked up, many dress like whores. Have you not noticed how these GIRLS dress, horrible. This is what our society deems as normal, ya normal.
I agree I have a 15 yr old niece but she looks her age cuz her parents don't allow her going to school dressed like a hooker ready to work the Sunset strip. It's YOUR job as a parent to monitor your kid's going on's, my parents were like the Gestapo when I was growing up and even though I hated it I look back and think Thanks Mom and Dad for helping me get through those hard years, that's why society is the way it is nowadays....

How can someone who is teacher of the year be so stupid? HOW did the person get to be teacher of the year? What is the criteria for being teacher of the year? SO many questions. With this happening in TX does the guy now have around the clock police protection? He may want to consider it as I think he may get some unwanted company soon.

I know of a guy who lost his job (Great job - big $) because he wrote something hilarious about his boss and sent it to a colleague however, he inadvertently sent it global. Meaning, everyone in his entire office building got it including the President who fired him. That was a dumb ass move if i should say so.

Um yeah, not surprised at all anymore. When there ISN'T a teacher with a promising career and who is every parent and student's dream who ends up like this, THEN I will be shocked.
I think it's silly they're calling the girl "the victim"...she's old enough to know exactly what she was doing and she's just as guilty as he is!!
I so agree Shannon. You cannot tell me a 15 yr old does not know better than to send nude pics of her breasts to anyone and especially her teacher even if he is some kind of perv. If she was my daughter I'd probably get arrested for child abuse because I would bust her little fanny for her and take away the phone, computer, etc.

He should get a lesser sentence than the female teachers who actually had sex with the male students.
