This image provided Saturday by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, shows the vehicle where five dead bodies found burned inside in Pinal County's Vekol Valley area, west of Casa Grande, Ariz.
Five bodies burned beyond recognition in a charred vehicle discovered in the southern Arizona desert appear to be victims of drug-smuggling violence, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Saturday.
Deputies are searching for suspects in the killings just west of Casa Grande, in desolate Vekol Valley between Phoenix and Tucson, NBC Station KVOA of Tucson reported.
Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a border patrol agent saw a Ford Expedition pulled over on Interstate 8, Babeu said. The vehicle had gone airborne off the interstate, he said. When the agent approached the SUV, the driver took off.
The smoldering Expedition was found about 8:30 a.m. Four bodies were found in the cargo area and one was in the backseat, Babeu said. None were in the driver or passenger seats, he said.

He said evidence pointed to drug smuggling, but he did not specify what the evidence was.
"This is pretty significant," he said. "Given all these indicators, you don't have to be a homicide detective to add up all this information."
Pinal County deputies were involved in more than 350 high-speed pursuits last year, and Babeu said most of those involved cartel members. There have been shootings, the bodies of murder victims have been left in the desert and just this week, several loads of drugs were confiscated, he said.
"This happens far too often and usually our involvement is just a small percentage of what really goes on," the sheriff said. "Is it concerning? Is it troubling? Yes it is."
Babeu said investigators will try to determine whether the victims were dead before the SUV was set ablaze or whether they were alive when the fire was started.
"Clearly these people were murdered, but we don't know the manner of death," he said.
He said killings related to Mexican drug cartels are rare so close to Phoenix, The Arizona Republic newspaper reported.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Possible drug-smuggling,,Oh well too bad so sad.. who cares...
Drug smuggling across the US border?? isn't that a "Federal Crime"...Mr. Holder, why are you allowing Arizona state and local law enforcement officers enforce "Federal Law"??
"Mr. Holder, why are you allowing Arizona state and local law enforcement officers enforce "Federal Law"??"
Well, I suppose for the same reason as all the preceding Attorneys General.
Pick and choose; same old, same old.
The borders aren't there to keep others out, its to keep the legal citizens in. Our government is actually protecting us, as Mexico will put us in prison for illegally crossing into their country. God only knows what those crazy Canadians would do.
Thank you Uncle Sam.
NMSUNSET
They are already in America, and the American government is already involved with the drug cartels.

"Director Rusty Fleming's graphic documentary depicts the drug wars waged in Mexican border cities like Ciudad Juarez and Nuevo Laredo, where kidnappings, torture and executions are commonplace and brazen gangs are funded by cartel businessmen. The film examines the situation from the viewpoints of the gangs and their victims and includes disturbing images of the conflict as well as dramatic re-enactments of the unrelenting violence."
Maybe it's time to get out of NM if you are that scared and worried. I left CA due to the traffic, the crime, and the cost of living there. I miss all the restaurants, but I don't miss the rest of it.
A Ford Expedition really makes a pretty poor smoker; even in the midst of an ample supply of mesquite.
This just illustrates that you REALLY need to go to Texas, for good barbecue!
sichaun
State and local police should not be allowed to investigate bank robberies, kidnapping that involves personn being taken out of state, possesing or selling an illegal weapon, forgery, counterfeiting, mail fraud or stealling mail from mailboxes, threats to senators , representatives or postal employees, or anything to do with a member of the military as well as the other 100's of crimes that are classified as federal laws.
While the state of Arizona is busy fighting drug smuggling killers. the Department of Justice is busy fighting the state of Arizona...oh...and to be fair...some others states as well!
I guess forest fire would be beyond reach?
arieus
No maybe it is time that the problem was taken care of so citizens in this country would not have to worry about the violence or crime from drug cartels or the crime committed by illegals! This issue is the one of the most important jobs of the government.
If people along the border are in fear for their well being from all the drug running and crimes from the cartells is the government not providing for peoples defence???
No kidding. NVNC. No Victim, No Crime...
Looks like someone is breaking bad... get it? ;D
Actually I think that show is set in New Mexico....
Oh well, I'm sure someone will give my comment a chuckle or two.
The evidence that is being suppressed, that it was drug smuggling related, are the firearms recovered at the scene, each had a card attached "Feliz Navidad, Eric Holder".
Time for some real "Change" so that americans can have "Hope" again!
NObama 2012!
If you think Romney would bring real change you're crazy.
Right now Spongebob would be an improvement over Obama. At least with Obama gone, Holder will be gone and that is a very good thing.
Let us not defend our borders, which is Obama's number one job description. When you have citizens fleeing areas within the US because said areas are overrun with illegals you have a problem. When you have murderous drug cartels dragging their barbarity over here, you have a problem, when you have a state going bancrupt, largely due to supporting illegals you have a problem.
Obama is one big mistake and it will take several years to undo his damages. His non-action or rather, pretend action vis a vis illegals and porous borders will impact the nation, not just the border states that he is so busily suing and ignoring. He goes to Texas and not once sets foot in Juarez or any town too close to the border. Perhaps because it is so violent that his life would be in extreme danger, and yet he claims that he has things under control. What a pathetic joke. Protecting citizens is posting signs in National Parks warning citizens to stay out or risk being killed is not exactly protecting or defending the border. So much for 'defense of the realm.'
Too bad? Really. They said it was RELATED to drug smuggling,we have no way of knowing how it was related. Oh,sorry, some scumbag got robbed on his way to pay his boss the proceeds from the drugs he sold,so they rounded him up,along with his gf and her mother and father who happened to be there when the drug dealers caught up with him, tied them all up in a car and burned them alive. Too bad,so sad,who cares.
Well,we dont know thats what happened either, but stuff like that happens all the time. Maybe some guy selling drugs or smuggling for the cartel had it coming but quite often, the collateral damage spills over onto people that had nothing to do with it.
Maybe sheriff joe can spare a few officers to help, since he has enough to send to Hawaii to check birth certificates. Priorities right...........................
I am sure Sheriff Joe would love to help, but he can't afford to fight another lawsuit from the DOJ
@TMG
Maybe "E&O" should put out a list of which laws he should obey, and which ones to ignore?
Then maybe Joe should start obeying the law.
350 pursuits is one everyday—there have been shootings, murdered victims and drugs found and it's not all cartel related?
@ Toasty--And while you're at it which laws would that be--seems like all laws subject to illegals are against the Obama foundation's law—I have been watching your comments for a long time Toasty McGrath would you care to enlighten us with your brilliance??
I thought we had a high tech military for this kind of stuff, whats it going to take to engage some of it..
Oh well, 5 less illegals in our country.......good riddance!
this is scary, the drug-related violence is crossing our borders and it's now our problem
Now our problem? No, it's been our problem for a long time and we're not being allowed to fix it because the feds won't let anyone while they sit on their hands hoping the people won't notice how bad it really is. This isn't the only thing going on, it's one of the few that make national news. The local news has more of course.
Because Eric Holder is too busy catering to the Black pastor crowd for Oblamo votes.
http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/holder-brief-black-pastors-campaign-2012/567501
Also, if I had to guess, he's busy along with his boss, Oblamo, drafting up Fast And Furious II. Oh well, only three and a half more years of this unmitigated disaster of an administration. All you people who are part of that dismal jobs report that just came out who voted for Oblamo got the "change" you deserved. (You know he's in trouble when that radical left wing rag writer Maureen Dowd of the far left wing newsrag the New York Slimes starts turning on him).
Correction: "oh well, only three and a half more years of this unmitigated disaster of an administration." That should read: oh well, only a half more year of this unmitigated disaster of an administration. Three and a half years is clearly more than enough damage and we'll be lucky if we can recover from four years of Carter II. In Reagan's second year in office, the economy was well on its way to not only reversing the Jimmy Carter damage, but moving forward.
After three and a half years under Carter II, a dismal 1.9% growth rate and adding a mere 70,000 jobs a month is moving backwards (for you Obama voters, we need to be adding about 200,000 jobs a month to keep up with population growth). Obama's one word election campaign is "Forward." HAHAHAHAHA!!! Delusional nitwits.
10tacle,
You had to correct your own comment. You're sloppy.
its ok 10tacle:) at least you get it
and kudos for mentioning population growth. I don't hear anything about that from either side.
MarilynMD,thanks for posting exactly what I was going to say.You saved me the time.Again Thanks!
As long as Americans want to buy illegal drugs this will continue. Our gov't has never addressed the real problem, why these people want these drugs and how to prevent them getting that way. Maybe improve the future outlook for people that can't see a future would help. A better all round education to enable children to deal with the hardships of life would be a start.

Time to save some TAX dollars for the rest of us! since AZ can do a better job than the FED's at patroling the border, why don't we let AZ patrol it's own borders!
Paul Babeau is likely using this issue to attempt to override his recent political scandals, his association with armed vigilantes and I wouldn't be surprised if these bodies were found elsewhere (by him or his administration buddies) and planted in a car from the County Tow Lot. So far, there has been no evidence that this violence has come over the border except his claims and speculation as to who the perps are. Why, if he has engaged in hundreds of high-speed chases, has he caught NO ONE?
Google: "Paul Babeau Scandal" and "Paul Babeau Sister" or click on this ABC news report from Pinal County, Arizona
GB, Babeau's Pinal County along with Cochise and SantaCruz counties are as crooked as a dozen bolts of lightning when it comes to staffing their departments. Some of them run rip-crews taking money going south. Because of this Mexican Narconistas have made adjustments accordingly. Paulie's Neo-Nasty Pinal Sheriff's leads the terrible three. They get their fair share of narconista action. That Vekol valley is very active as stated. Ruby through the Baboquivari up to I-8 and then to Casa Grande is a hotbed for Narconista/Illegalista activity. The Feds dare not tread in them parts without flying hardware from DMAFB in Tucson or nearby Pinal ANG. Feds like staging along the highways and leave the dirt-work to the BP. Down here along the Arizona-Mexighanistan border it is increasingly harder to get the bad-guys because unlike other Cartels, Chappo's gone out of his way to insure that his dough going south and his dope to awaiting American users north is done by local American talent. Americans have no problems in gaining access to the tools of the trade and know the laws well, and the territory even better than the Narcos. To get that kind of service the Sinos have an unlimited amount of cash in Mexico that RICO is impotent at. And that means buying cops from the terrible three departments. The only cops to be trusted are the Highway Patrol, the Pima Sheriff's Office and the Tucson Police Department as these three will show no mercy to dirty badges, none! Right now the money's in illegals as the going rate to Phoenix is about ten grand a head up front. No more discounts for muling a load. Run a hundred a week and that's a cool mil not including the load every crosser moves on his back and both arms! Hijack a competitor's load of illegals or take down a stash house of dope/illegals even more. Bottom line is with the tanked economy, Americans are getting more involved in the trade as Chappo's sinos provide that much needed cash in lousy times. When Americans are out of cash the Mexicans legally cross and spend tons of it in Tucson's malls and return with their items. These legally-crossing Mexicans are targets for members of the terrible three to rip-off. They get pulled over, lose a Sony Bravia to a cop as a tax and are allowed to head South. They don't want to live in the US, it costs too much. They're buyers for the Cartelistas. The Cartels know that there's no money for food in the US cupboards, and American users will always come up with dough for dope! That burned-out vehicle is a sign of the times. Competition is starting to thin. Right now the Sinos have the bone as they've got the biggest bite on Mexighanistan's Caulderon's ass. The reverse of a labor situation comes as it is cheaper for the Narconistas/Illegalistas to hire Americans to insure safe passage of product going North and dough South than to keep Mexighanistanis on their payroll. That is why it is now harder to grab a Nothing , GBaby1. The above comes from a lifetime of experience on the subject from both sides of the issue, relatives on both sides of the border and from both sides of the law. Nothing like a real working experience on which to base an opinion!
If only you guys would have voted for Ron Paul, we wouldn't have this problem since drugs would be legalized.
But no, all of you prefer elitist, politics-as-usual candidates.
All drugs what_the? Heroin? Crack? Yeah, that would be a good society. (sarc)
Janet will swear that our borders remain "secure" and that the drug violence has NOT spilled over into the United States.
Meanwhile, back in the desert.......
Janet needs to get out of DC more often.
20 sniper teams with a weapons free directive could take care of a lot of these smugglers. Post them 1/2 mile apart, go to it boys!
Oops, I forgot, as long as the drug cartels keep their individual cash donations to less than $350 Obama doesn't have to say where the money came from, can't be shooting faithful contributors.
Yup,20 sniper teams that have orders to shoot any illegals or drug smugglers they see. Are you seriously that idiotic? You want paramilitary snipers with a license to shoot anyone they please on suspicion of ... well pretty much whatever...roaming around the southwest. How are these death squads or sniper teams or whatnot going to tell the difference between people that simply LOOK suspicious but really have a reasonable reason to be there, and the criminals? They cant. Dont take your SUV four wheeling. You might be mistaken for a drug runner. Dont go hiking, you might be mistaken for a drug runner. Dont go hunting either, you might be mistaken for an armed drug runner. For that matter, dont have skin darker than a peice of copier paper or you might be mistaken for an "illegal". Your a nut.
I should also suggest your a nut for thinking that a politician would knowingly accept 350 dollar donations from drug smugglers and even nuttier for thinking that politicians would give special treatment to anyone who gives that much. Seriously. Ive given that kind of money to political campaigns. I seriously got ripped off, becuase all I get for it are emails hitting me up for more money. Weres my get out of jail free card and special favors.
If you think 350 dollar personal donations mean squat, when corporations and billionaires give tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars at a time to super pacs, your living in a dream world.
The only option I have is to choose not to think like our great leader..Someone that comes from a different place has the option to turn their cheek when it come to death and violence. I cant seem to do that..
Industrial...... Actually Napolitano and all the rest of the entire administration need to go, and go they will!!!
Europeans came from a "different place." Native americans were already here.
Industrial, you're as fluent in the area in question as I am in the White House. I know the whole area in question well. Better than most operating in it from both sides of the Law. The Narconistas have that real estate better staffed and better equipped than all the boys with badges! We call it Little Afghanistan or L.A. You gotta get your guys in first. It ain't gonna happen without being compromised. You know nothing of the task at hand and yet ask for sniper teams! You'll make a great politician! Table Top has an unresrticted view all the way to HWY 86 and beyond! The days of illegals manning the observation points from Naco, Nogales, Ruby, Sasabe/Robles, Baboquivari, Vekol to Casa Grande are coming to an end. Local American talent now handles that. Americans now insure safe passage of dope and illegals going to Phoenix and dough going south back into Mexighanistan, thanks to American drug users! From the former Tohono O'odam Shadow Wolves/Trackers now on the Narconista payroll to the bought and paid for badges add former US military guys out in Little A-stan they will and know who's invited and who ain't. Half of the Reservation has been bought and paid for. The entire Babos run along their western border! Understand that the best in com and observation gear is at their disposal. America has a budget to fight a drug war. Chappo and his Sinos who own the line from Laredo to Calexico have an endless supply of cash. You know nothing and ask for stupidity! Mike, the only folks in that area are the bad-guys! Industrial is ignorant as his words advertise it well. Can't protect the castle from what wants in intil you clean out what's already inside, America's need for dope and cheap labor. Got decades of real working experience in the subject, get some of your own, your words will mean more!
But we better not ask if someone is a US citizen.
Asking if someone is a citizen is racist and is discrimination.
Soon, likely, a hate crime.
Be sure to check "Other" on your next census form.
All 28 of my children did so on the last form that came to our single wide mobile home in Beverly Hills.
This article is about drug violence, AT, not immigration.
Most educated Americans know that it's all the same thing. Immigration is their cover word for invading the United States. I've read about the foreign relation between Mexico and the US off the State Department Historian website. It never changes. Mexicans sneak across the border and steal all the resources they can until they get caught. I've read documents from the 1900's that refer to this same problem.
Chicago has a huge Mexican problem and more gang members than any other state in the union and Chicago is 1400 miles from the US-Mexico border.
This problem will never go away until the United States views Mexico as the greatest threat to American lives and decides to put American forces into Mexico.
Immigration comes from all countries across the world, not just Mexico. And they're not 'invading' because the majority of immigrants are here legally; visas, tourists, green cards, permamnenet residents, diplomats on long-term assignments to their embassies, business travelers, students, foreign investors foreign journalists, etc...
Back in the late 1800's, the white railroad barons were bringing so many Chinese laborers to America for the purposes of indentured labor that American citizens considered them the 'yellow peril' and complained that it was an invasion and if it continued we all would eventually speaking Chinese. This mass popular hysteria got our government to ban all immigration from China, a moratorium that lasted until the 1950's/60s, I think. There were laws emplaced that banned the Chinese from owning property/land in the US, laws that prohibited whites from marrying them.
I see the same thing in the late 1900's--except this time it's the Mexicans. People are claiming it's an invasion and if it continues we will all eventually be speaking Spanish.
So is it your proposition that we enact these racially-based exclusionary laws again to people from Mexico? How about people from other countries in South America who have to pass through Mexico to get here? Do you want to narrow that to anyone who speaks Spanish--if they speak Spanish they can't come in? What about Puerto Ricans, who speak Spanish but are a part of the US and are considered US citizens?
see ad below...testosterone dude looks...like his mullet...turning in to a skullet...
Amanda2017567...... Girl some of the whites think the world was just for them. They think their intelligences rule the world. When a millineum starts, all that which exist, starts to crumble. We have passed that mark, and their dishonesty is dissolving..
they think they can serve their own evils to others. NOT. it will not be that way. The people of this world are demanding their resource be used for, their own possibilities, not others. It is OK, those whites that have been so, unfair in their thinking about others, time has come back, to bite them in their own asses.
Amanda, I don't know where you're from, but in my neck of the woods, everything practically Is spoken in spanish. Jobs can't be gotten unless you're bi-lingual, schools teach in Spanish. And if not, everything is written in English and then re-written in Spanish. And as for the Chinese, almost every adult Chinaman I meet, or do business with, in the dry cleaner, all the Chinese restaurants, they can barely speak English. And it's been like that for years. So they all must keep coming over new. And Repeating...Girl, you sound like the stereotypical angry black woman.
I would think that it is more likely a coyote and his cargo. The coyote killed his cargo. No witness.
Drug connection is more likely -- more money involved, much more. Drugs should be legalized. Drug prohibition is a subsidy for criminal behavior. Drug addiction is a manageable problem. An interminable, counter-productive, rights-limiting war on drugs is not.
I agree. When the $$ is out of drugs there would be no reason to have drug czars. It is assinine to not legalize them. Especially pot. But what would the private prison system do without inmates in jail for minor drug infractions. Lots for $$ is made on prisoners. The war on drugs is a failure just like the war on alcohol.
Don't forget Rosie O'Donnel's war on Haagen Daaz!
Maybe sheriff joe can spare a few officers to help, since he has enough to send to Hawaii to check birth certificates.
Whatever kind of Mexican it was it is 4 less Mexicans to deal with today..
Tigerboy:
You're assuming they were Mexicans. How do you know they weren't American citizens running drugs and smuggling weapons south of the border?
There's no reason for a coyote to kill his "cargo". They pay in advance, are here illegally and subject to arrest and deportation so they're not going to betray him even if they know who he is, and killing them changes a simple smuggling rap to capital murder. Even if he isn't caught, word gets around the illegal smuggling community which is very bad for business, and the next body found in the desert is his. Drugs are a MUCH more likely scenario.
They couldn't catch the driver because he got out of his deathmobile and ran away.

Paul Babeau (and his administration) and the Arizona Republican Party (of which he's a member) are known to lie about this issue. It should be all over the news about JT Ready killing his girlfriend, her family and himself but they are lying and saying it was "a drug gang" when there's zero evidence of that. These people cannot be trusted when it comes to claims that "drug violence is spilling over the border" since there is no evidence of that, either. Only speculation as justification of bad police work, non-existent police work and police spending more time and money on their boyfriends or upcoming political campaigns than on fighting crime.
Google: Sheriff Paul Babeau Scandal
Tiger boy....As long it was 4 "TIGERBOYS"...I would say, job..."WELL DONE"!!! Have a nice day boy.
Border? What border?
You mean that insignificant little magical line between the US and Mexico? More of an inconvienence than anything else to the drug cartels.
Not to mention the signs 60+ miles north of the border warning us not to enter into the area due to drug violence. Our Government has ceded miles and miles to Mexico and warns our citzens not to go into the area even though it's American soil. Check out www.standwitharizona.com sometime. They are a bit radical but look past the rhetoric and read the articles. Those that aren't in a border state have little to no clue what really goes on here.
My main concern is that if the Federal Govenment wanted the border closed it would be closed. Why is this allowed to continue? Why is the Justice Department sueing anyone and everyone that attempts to stop the illegal acts? Just exactly whose side is the Obama Administration on anyway???
yeah, this has only been going on for three years.
Dumbya Bush, who favored amnesty for illegals in the US -- oh, we never had this issue when HE was president. It was all daisies and lollipops. Oh, the Good Ole Dumbya Days when we never had any problems!!
GW is gone, Froggiewoggie. This issue lies squarely on the current CIC.
unless, you know, you WANT to give GW credit for finding Bin Laden too. Or are you just being selective?
Except that GW didn't find Bin Laden, he found Saddam Hussein instead, and border patrol and drones have significantly gone up under Obama
Therefore, useing your logic Frog, if you've had cancer for 4 years, but only found out today, you blame the doctor from 4 years ago and not treat the cancer today? You simply let the cancer kill you because it's been going on so long it's hopeless now even though there is a 100% chance it can be cured?
The blame game doesn't work when there is no proper action from the current administration. Instead of looking for someone else to blame how about addressing the lack of action TODAY.
Let's not forget Ken that the ignoring of "non serious criminals" (approximately 300k) that are not deported was a product of Obama also. Our immigration laws are clear yet have been circumvented at every oportunity by Obama, Holder and Napolitano.
Name one circumvention, Dave.
Az Dave.you have it wrong. You just were diagnosed with cancer today, and were told you had it for the last four years. You have gone to other doctors and they did nothing for you. Your now in serious danger and need immediate treatment. Your doctor starts you on chemo. Then you go to a lawyer, and file a malpractice suit. Not against the doctor that a year and a half ago gave you a clean bill of health, but aginst the CURRENT doctor that FOUND the cancer and started treatment. How much sense does THAT make.
Obama IS taking action. Border patrols have INCREASED. Immigration raids at companies HAVE decreased, but there is a reason for that. There are vastly fewer immigration agents than needed. It takes dozens of immigration agents weeks to plan and execute an immigration raid, and then process the people they arrest. Then you have to pay for deportation proceedings. That would be find if you had enough agents to target enough of the employers to make a difference, but there are not enough agents. As such, the Obama administration has switched tactics. Since for every one raid there are thousands of other employers that get away with it,and no hope of getting them all, they now have the agents going after employers. Rather than 20 agents taking two weeks to bust a single employer and get 50 illegals, who will be deported and then sneak right back over the border, they find the employers hiring them and make them fire them. Its very simple,if there were no jobs for the illegals, they would not come here.
Its targeting the root of the problem and its having a measurable effect. It takes a single immigration agent less than a day to go to an employer and audit his employment records. Anyone who has not proven they can legally work here, needs to either provide documentation or be fired. Employers wont argue, they will just fire them rather than be prosecuted. If they are repeat offenders they WILL be prosecuted. Why not prosecute them all? Well the GOP made a 5% across the board budget cut and they were already understaffed and underfunded. Its even worse now. There is just no manpower or money to prosecute every single employer they find with a violation.
But this works better than what we WERE doing. It used to be that 20 agents targeted a single business and it took weeks to do it. Now in that same time those 20 agents each go to a buisiness, and audit them. In those two weeks, they each cover 10 businesses, thats 200 buisnesses audited. Its a 200 fold increase in productivity. As such rather than 50 illegals being sent back to mexico,200x50 or 10,000 lose their jobs. Over a year, thats around around a half a million illegal jobs. Lets assume half go back and hire more people after a couple months. Actaually, lets assume 3/4 do. Thats STILL 125,000 jobs the imigration agents have eliminated for illegals that want to come here to work, and thats what they want to do,to work,so they can send money back to mexico. Previously, those 20 agents would deport around 6500 a year. Assume the same 1/4 choose to shape up while the same 3/4 choose to go back to what they were doing. That means under the OLD way of doing it,around 1625 illegal jobs would have been elimated by those agents.
The old way of doing it was ineffective. It just did not work. We tried it,it failed. By targeting the businesses, they actually have enough manpower to do the job. They can actually make a significant dent in the illegal hiring. As such,it becomes less likely that illegals will come here. Without a job waiting for them, they wont come here.
Would it be nice to make every illegal go home and prosecute every employer? Yes,but no one is willing to pay for it. After all,the same people that want Obama to stop illegal immigration wont give him any more money for border protection or let him hire more immigration agents. Rememeber ,your the same people that are going on and on about how he has increased the size of the federal government. It turns out the federal government payroll is growing at a slower rate under Obama than it did under previous presidents and most of those jobs that WERE added are defense and law enforcement. So which way do you want it. A massive increase in the government payroll to add more immigration agents or a smaller government. I know which way the tea partiers wanted it. They cut border partrol funding 5% along with their blanket cuts to everything else.
Toasty,I think hes complaining about how Obama had the nerve to sue Arizona over their immigration laws based on some trumped up flimsy excuse about some obscure 1700s law called the "Constitution".
The Constitution? Bah.
" It's just a god damned piece of paper.
Toasty, I named one in my last post. Also, you're supposed to be a citizen to vote yet Holder is fighting all voter identification efforts by the States. Lets not forget Holder and Napolitano and their perjury regarding Fast and Furious. The Black Panthers threatened people at a voting booth and publically offered a bounty on George Zimmerman and no action was taken by the Justice Department in either case. Circumventing, breaking or ignoring the laws are rampant in Wasington, DC.
It remains impossible to converse with people that have closed minds and selective memories. I typically don't even bother so this will end my discussion here.
When Homeland Security was created in 2002 in the wake of 9-11 their budget was $49 million. in 2011, their budget has swelled to $98 billion and is now a conglomeration of a number of federal agenices, FEMA, the USCG, USCIS, ICE, CBP, the Secret Service, as well as internal agencies like the National Cyber-Security center and the Office of Civil rights and Civil Liberties.
And a lot of people missed this one little detail; during the Justice Dept's hearing over the AZ law, a USCIS official said
“there is no reliable way in the (DHS) database to verify that you are a citizen, unless you are in the passport database.”
So if they say that's the only way, then your birth certificate, your Social Security card, and drivers license are worth abosolutely zip. BCs and SS cards can be lost or stolen (people in Puerto Rico had so much of a problem with this that they reissued new BCs for their entire country) drivers licenses can be faked (look at underage teens getting into clubs with faked IDs) Certificates of Naturalization (for those who emigrated here legally and became citizens) can be forged also.
So according to DHS, the only people who would be able to prove they are citizens are those who have passports. So...how many American citizens don't have a passport? See this article from The expeditioner, a travel Magazine/website:
A British friend of mine recently expressed her shock that an American she knew did not have a passport. “Is this normal,” she asked, “do most Americans not have passports?”
The quick answer is this: Yes, most Americans do not have a passport. The number of Americans who have a passport, according to the most recent statistics issued by the State Department in January of 2012, is 117,014,020.
Given the country’s population of 311,591,917, that means about 38% of the American population has a passport. This means nearly 2 out of 3 Americans can’t even fly to Canada, let alone travel to anywhere else in the world.
Which means 117,014,020 people can prove they are here as a citizen legally and would be able to vote as a result. That means 194,577,897 people would not be able to prove they are citizens in order to vote, And if you are asked to prove you are a citizen during an AZ stop and you don't have a passport, you could conceivably then be detained and deported for being 'illegal'.
This is why the administration is trying to block these laws!
That's because these states are enacting voter suppression laws. That's illegal, Dave.
Toasty--your "voter suppression" laws are someone else's attempt to clean up a long-neglected mess. Personally, I don't want my "elected" official put there on the strength of dead voters and non-citizens, buy maybe you're comfortable with that.
Michael--you make some good points, but kindly remember the type of forum in which you're commenting. When you write a book, nobody reads past the second paragraph. I totally applaud the efforts to prosecute employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens, and it wouldn't take that much effort or expense. Choose a couple of high-profile, well known corporate entities, nail them hard under both state and federal statutes including massive fines and even jail time for anyone complicit in the hiring process, and other employers will get the message. No jobs, no illegals, except for the cartels, and we can do significant damage to them by legalizing marijuana and turning it from a law enforcement problem to a source of tax revenue.
Yep. That was the Cheney/Bush attitude about the Constitution. The National Archives personnel are still trying to get all the crap-stains out of the Constitution, given how frequently Cheney & Bush wiped their butts with it for 8 years.
We need HELP to fight the cartels and to protect our borders. When will they "GET IT"?
I live in New Mexico and I can see these issues with the drugs and cartels is getting worse.
PRESIDENT OBABMA...I'M SCARED FOR MY FAMILY, WE DON'T WANT TO DIE. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP US? :(
You will get NO help from him !!! He wants them here to vote for HIM!! That is why they are try to make it so that ANYONE that shows up at a voting station gets to VOTE! We are being sold out!
NMSUNSET, did you make that request to all the former presidents? Let me take a wild guess and say no.
AKRandy, why don't you direct your anger and frustration toward those who are to blame; that is, if you're speaking about illegal immigration. Put the blame where it belongs, squarely on the companies and homeowners who hire illegal immigrants; no jobs, no illegal immigrants. Clean up your own state before you go blaming the federal government.
We're trying, what do you think SB1070 was about? The federal government doesn't want us to do anything but they won't do anything either. So when we say "fine, we'll start working on the problem", we're called a bunch of racist b*******. Also, I assure you the cartels assure that illegal immigrants have jobs because it is illegal to hire anyone not a US citizen or legal US resident and they are trying to make it illegal to pick up day laborers off the street. The problem isn't just the companies & homeowners, there is a lot more too it then that. The cartels are a HUGE problem and when the federal government sues you so that you can't get rid of those they prey upon (i.e. illegal immigrants) then yes it is time to blame the federal government for not doing their job.
sichuan
and if they have "stolen identification" false ssn numbers and social security dont tell you they are false, all the proof you need to get hired legally is a ID card and a social security card and you are believed to be a US citizen. So it is not all the fault of those that hire them. the irs should tell businesses that the ssn is false or stolen but they dont. We should follow Mexico's laws against illegal entry for any citizen of Mexico found here illegally. Do you have any idea what Mexico's"punishment" is for illegal entry into Mexico?
Illegal immigration is a bad problem, but the article is about 5 unidentified bodies. If you think there are no american citizens that have any connection to these drug cartels you're pretty naive. Asking for ones papers isn't a guaranteed reduction in drug related crime.
How about taking off all the cops that are busting college kids for pot and putting them on the border?
Do you have any idea what the punishment for being thought illegal is here in the US? Not proven to be, just thought.
I was adopted internationally from overseas legally by a Vietnam vet and his wife, who then died in a car accident before telling me I was adopted. 18 years after the pper was filed, ICE came to me asaying USCIS lost the paper, can they get a copy please. I said 'what paper?' and was promptly detained as an illegal.
Dad and Mom filed my adoption record, my adoptive birth certificate (you have to have proof of adoption before you can have a birth certificate issued with you listed as parents to an adoptee) they filed my SS number and documentation. USCIS had all of that except the adoption paper, lost/misfiled. I had a brand-new DL and school records from Pre-k to high school graduation, had Dad's military records saying I was his dependent and taxes filed showing me as his dependent.
It was a shock finding out I was adopted at the same time I'm being placed in deportation as an illegal. Even more of a shock when they tell me that they can't deport me since I was stateless/undocumented prior to my adoption--an infant abandoned at an international orphanage with no original birth certificate--so I will remain in deportation until I can provide them with a copy of my adoption paperwork.
I stayed in deportation for three years until I could find the paperwork. Dad was in the military, we moved around a lot, and I spent those three years writing letters to every courthouse in every state we'd ever lived in until I finally found it. And while conditions in an American prison are far superior than that reported to be in Mexican prison (I spent 1 year waiting for space to open up in a deportation camp), I can assure you that a private, for-profit deportation camp (spent 2 years there) is right about the same as Mexico's. Food deprivation, sleep deprivation, death threats and physical and sexual abuse from the guards. One of the girls in my pod was raped by the camp chaplain, that was when I turned my back on Christianity. People committed suicide or died of medical ailments never adequately treated.
So, sorry, from where I'm sitting, there's not a lot of difference between Mexico's punishment for being illegal and the US's punishment for the government losing my documentation.
I was not illegal--no crimes were committed. It wasn't a crime for USCIS to lose my paper; it wasn't a crime for my parents not to have told me I was adopted (for all I know they might have planned on telling me when I turned 18), it wasn't a crime for ICE to indefinitely detain a US Ctizen with a legal BC, DL, and SS card. It wasn't a crime for the private prison to serve us food with maggots in it, it wasn't a crime to give me underwear still crusted with blood from another woman's period, it wasn't a crime for male guards to perform strip searches and body cavity searches that left me bleeding, it wasn't a crime for guards to get their rocks off watching me shower for 15 minutes once a week.
Amanda, as I was reading your post, I had to cringe at the treatment you endured as well as the emotional torture you suffered. I hope that your life has been better since that horrible time. Thank you for posting and hopefully everyone will try harder to be understanding about these type of situations. Wow, unbelievable what you went through.
lmao your story reads exactly like the story on nbc the other day,, if you are actually the same person that was featured in the article well then it is a shame that you had to go through that, BUT if our laws were enforced and followed to begin with that would have never happened to you as most likely any questions that would have arose would have done so long ago. If the laws were followed instead of every once in a while we would not have the problems with Illegals we do have. OUR COUNTRY IS BROKE we cannot continue to have so many of them here getting government subsidies, Our medical care costs more and more every year to help pay for those that go into the er and cannot pay. Here in the border states that is a common issue with illegals. They are sending billions and billion back "home" to help their families in Mexico, THIS IS TAKING MONEY FROM OUR ECONOMY WE CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE given to Mexico's economy. Many of you love to Say they are doing jobs Americans wont , yet it is amazing that when there was so many illegals found at swift and company and american apparel they were replaced by American workers, and at swift they PAID them more then they were paying the Illegals. And one last point... my grandfather was A NATURALIZED CITIZEN. he came from Mexico. the difference he actually followed the laws to become a citizen and always thought Any who came here illegally should be deported immediately.
Has any OTHER President stopped it? It's not like this just started happening almost 4 years ago. AKRandy!
Close to Phoenix? You must be kidding. Look at downtown after sunset.
See what happens when you make people take signs down? Don't let the sun set on your ass on the way out of town....
Oh klondiko, you know perfectly well that you don't have to wait till sundown. There are plenty of little Mexicos all over the city, hell 35th Ave & Broadway is always fun to drive through.
Don't leave out the nice drive down Van Buren near downtown, or McDowell and 20th. Or heck let's just take a stroll in the Maryvale area?..
Hey Janet......you still think our borders are safe????
I was just in borders yesterday, and bought two books. It was totally safe there! Chill out!
Borders aren't safe, wont be until someone finally says enough and puts a bounty on the illegals.
bring in 50 ears and get a gift certificate for a free happy meal.
By the way, Mickee D's is now serving huevos rancheros nation wide, not a good sign.
Uh, IS? This article is about drug violence, not immigration.
I guess you're REALLY paranoid about Taco Bell then eh?
it's not a good sign that, during the Bush Recession, companies are finding more ways to appeal to more and more people in order to remain solvent and turning a profit. Wow. You must be a republican.
You sound like someone who yearns for Whites-Only drinking fountains and blacks sitting in the back of the bus...
Industrial, there you go again, ignorance. Mickey D is serving Huevos Rancheros because when Americans don't have cash the Mexicans do. I laugh at the Malls and eateries. They cater to the Hispanics more and more because the Hispanics, especially Mexican (legal and illegal) don't believe in checks, credit cards, bank accounts or stocks and bonds. Cash only and only cash. Everything else is crap! I do the same. And that is the reason Costco, Sears, JC Penney, Macy's, Kohl's, Lowe's, Home Depot, Best Buy, Jared's Jewelers, etc. make their offerings. Businesses today want that CASH and don't give a rat's ass who's pocket it comes out of. Legal or not. Down here along the Arizona/Mexighanistan border the vast majority of Americans want to shoot the American drug users and those who buy that crap. So, Industry, when you're pondering going into that McDonald's, checking for cash in your wallet/purse, realize that those Hispanics, legal or not, are paying for their Huevos Rancheros are doing so because they have the CASH when you and I don't! To American business that's the BEST sign!
We can send our service men to protect everyone elses border what about their homeland.... Jobs?? I'm sure there are qualified people out there to help also... there are so many rules and regulations for the american people but nothing for the illegal drug dealing scum that come into this country and murder and pilage...
"We can send our service men to protect everyone elses border what about their homeland.... Jobs??"
Sorry, no can do if you're referring to the U.S. military. That's illegal; you'll have to use the National Guard troops in your state.
You could potentially use the Marines. They aren't specifically denied under the Posse Comitatus act. They are denied via a Department of Defense directive, however under specific situations, they could be used. http ://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/dod/d5525_5.pdf
Take out the spaces after http to get the link to work.
E4.3. EXCEPTIONS BASED ON MILITARY SERVICE:
DoD guidance on the Posse Comitatus Act (reference (v)), as stated in enclosure E3.,is applicable to the Department of the Navy and the Marine Corps as a matter of DoD policy, with such exceptions as may be provided by the Secretary of the Navy on a case-by-case basis.
E4.3.1. Such exceptions shall include requests from the Attorney General for assistance under 21 U.S.C. §873(b) (reference (kk)).
E4.3.2. Prior approval from the Secretary of Defense shall be obtained for exceptions that are likely to involve participation by members of the Navy or Marine Corps in an interdiction of a vessel or aircraft, a law enforcement search or seizure, an arrest, apprehension, or other activity that is likely to subject civilians to use military power that is regulatory, prescriptive, or compulsory. Such approval may be granted only when the head of the civilian agency concerned verifies that:
E4.3.2.1. The size or scope of the suspected criminal activity poses a serious threat to the interests of the United States and enforcement of a law within the jurisdiction of the civilian agency would be impaired seriously if the assistance were not provided because civilian assets are not available to perform the missions; or
E4.3.2.2. Civilian law enforcement assets are not available to perform the mission and temporary assistance is required on an emergency basis to prevent loss of life or wanton destruction of property.
Amazes me to see calls for military action. Are the folks calling for troops gonna don a Uniform and fight? Didn't think so. How do we as a Nation of Drug abusers expect to protect the castle called the United States of America from what wants in until we clean out what is already inside? Quell the need for abusing drugs and cheap labor America can succeed! This violence is brought about because America is impotent at getting political folks to enforce laws because they have a lobbyist to answer to or a presidental election will go south. Don't call for military action unless YOU are willing to sign aboard, put on the Uniform and fight! No political folks would ever put their job on that chopping block, so don't ask for it either! Gotta go after the need for what drug-producing nations are getting to Americans. It starts and ends with the user.
@MarilynMD- I agree with you IF the 5 dead are the smugglers...but most likely they are victims of a car-jacking to get into the states. So if they are innocent victims, we all should care. This is OUR country and the shyt needs to stop! The drugs and greed of people are ruining our country. People have become so self-centered that nobody cares for anyone as long as the make it out on top. And I am tired of watching the bad ones take advantage of the good ones.
When are you all going to realize that your government does not care about you or the safety of American citizens.....
As the putrefying slime oozes into the US we sit and wring our hands.
5 less Obama votes!
cunical, you and your moronic political inferences are nothing more than a rant. Did you conveniently forget about the Reagan amnesty, or the amnesty attempts by Bush ll in 2001 and 2007, or the maneuvering by the current conservative members of Congress to do something so that Romney doesn't lose any of the same votes?
Same old, same old.
They're probably not registered to vote. Since both major parties support drug prohibition, they don't really care. The drug smugglers win either way.
Sichuan - your hypocrisy is showing.
The border will never be secure. Shut them down legalize put them out of bussiness. No profit out of business. Secure the border by being able to open up and control the flow of human life. Live in peace. Simple solutions to catastrofic problems. Save lives.
Time to defend America, forget Afghanistan, Pakistan, and all the other failed Islamistans and defend America.
all those years in europe, the south pacific, and the middle east ,should have been spent in mexico
Cia controlled all legal drug shipments into the USA in the 80's. Noriaga was allowed to ship all he wanted to into the US as long as he stayed a democracy. So who's the blame and they know how to really eradicate the problem if they wanted to. Who really pulls the strings is the question? Who killed the Kennedys and got away with it. Something or someone so strong no body could jack with it and cover it up. The American Government.
Stop using drugs, and they will not have a reason to bring the crap up here.
Well said Arizona Tumbleweed!
That is indeed the root of the problem.
If you want to ban drugs, don't forget to include alcohol, the drug that causes more death, violence, misery and broken marriages than all other drugs combined.
Very old and well used druggie trick. If you don't want to hear someone talk bad about drugs, just change the subject to alcohol.
And NO, I don't drink.
"Very old and well used druggie trick."
No, it's simply a statement of fact. Alcohol is a drug, a drug that was legalized because people refused to abstain from consuming it and the black markets were running wild and creating a tremendous amount of crime, death and violence. Sound familiar?
I resent your implication that I'm a drug user. A mature adult would not make such a reckless assumption. You're pathetic.
That much is certain.
Oh wait. I thought you said THINK. Never mind...
Trolling children are out like wildfire tonight...
I agree. Alcohol is a drug. But that is NOT the subject here.
It is when you are talking about drugs. You said yourself, it is a drug.
jesus h nipple. WAKE UP!
Exactly..spontaneous combustion. There is no border problem, no drug problem, and certainly we are all safe. And the Easter Bunny was here in April, and Santa Claus is in the North Pole creating toys. And the United States Constitution is safe. Yeah..about that.....
Glad the officer did not pursue it at 4:30 am..he might have been the number 6 body.
I hope it is simply fried drug smuggling scum. If so, then good riddance. Sometimes death is a good thing--for the rest of us.
Mexican violence....coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
No prob -- the local car dealers will make a ton of money, selling vehicles all the time if they just keep getting burned up. More auto sales, good for local economy. Funeral homes will do well too. Casket makers, tire makers, tow companies... lotta trickle-down effect to other industries.
I like it!
Ya gotta look for the silver lining in these things...
"No prob" ? "I like it" ?
You "like" the murder of humans?
Sometimes street justice saves the taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars. It isn't ideal, but sometimes we're a lot better off for it.
Welcome to the future- drug violence spilling into US territory because they fail to secure the border. So much for tax dollars working to support the safety and sanctity of our country and its citizens
this sh--t has got to cease now its just going too go further and further north where are beefed border patrol, and national guard?they are invading our country. u.s gov. where are you. for votes come on.
the politicians apparently don't know what to do, or don't care
scientific predictions are very grim if south american immigration continues its current path northward
Scientists predict the u.s./mexican border will be a literal war zone, poverty and famine will cause unprecedented crime
something needs to be done for the sake of ALL people involved
I live in the seattle area. We're arming up to fight the invading Canadians and their smuggled maple syrup.
They showed no proof of drug activity, maybe it was the KKK? Maybe the border patrol set the fire after killing the people found inside. Maybe aliens *the space kind* killed them.
Who knows? but do not panic when you don't know details.
