Two Missouri girls were playing a deadly game on a railroad track when they were killed by an Amtrak train early Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The teens were playing “Ghost Train,” in which a vehicle is parked on the tracks, according to Butler County Coroner Jim Akers.
During the game, passengers let the windows fog up for a scary setting and then drive off when a train approaches, Akers said, according to the Post-Dispatch.
"They were playing a stupid game called ‘Ghost Train,’ and the object is to get scared, kind of like telling stories on Halloween," Akers said.
Akers said five teens were in a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the tracks as an Amtrak train approached a crossing about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday near Poplar Bluff in southeast Missouri. When the Cherokee wouldn't start, three teens were able to get out, but two panicked and couldn’t unbuckle their seatbelts. The driver returned to help but was in the vehicle when the train hit it, Akers told the Post-Dispatch.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Victoria Swanson, 15, and Haley Whitmer, 17, were killed and Kaitlyn Fowler, 15, was hospitalized in critical condition. All were from Poplar Bluff.
Akers told the Post-Dispatch that parents of the victims said the girls had played the game before.

Can I have her soiled panties ?
The train company will send you a bill for the damages too.
Don't think they won't.
Don't play this game.
If you are an adult and actually took the time to sit and write a nasty comment about these KIDS who died then you should be ashamed of yourself. While you sit behind a computer and criticize these parents who are currently mourning the death of their children you should keep in mind that your own parents aren't so perfect because they obviously never taught you any type of decency or tact.
Go cry some more and while you're at it sing a song about rainbows and lollipops
"Life is hard...it's even harder when you're stupid." John Wayne
In nature, we would explain this kind of behavior with 2 words: Natural selection.
Condolences to the families... but since you knew they played the game...
As a child you don't truly realize how close death always is. You believe your youth makes you invincible...I know as a child we played as if there was no danger or death lurking around. As we age we know it is always there and life is fragile.
How sad and dumb. Bath salts?
What about the train crew? My dad was a conducter for years and more than once came home totally shaken because the train hit someone. This was a passenger train...how do you think all of them feel and the crew too??? I see teenagers and adults taking crazy chances with trains and the trains win for too many times. These people have no regard for themselves or anyone else. It's not just them that are involved and the fact that parents knew is simply criminal.
Survival of the Fittest....I feel better now that they are removed from gene pool...whew!
This may be one of the most insensitive things I've ever posted, but -- this is clearly a "thinning of the herd" situation. Most everyone does stupid things during their teenaged years, but most of us didn't do things that put our lives and our friends' lives in jeopardy like this little idiots did. And the parents? Even stupider than their kids, if they knew this had been done previously. My kid would have their keys taken if I ever suspected something like that was going on.
When God handed out brains, they thought God said trains, and missed theirs. (Caught it coming back, though)
SMH, and their parents knew they'd done it before. And yet they were out there doing it again. Feel bad for all involved because the parents were not on the job.
Once again, it is proven that stupidity has no limits. Guess the "Ghost Train" made them into ghosts.
I remember when I was 14, 15 and my friends and I would just lay down on the road wearing all black until we could see a cars lights, count to 10 then get up and run. We were idiots back then. One time a car came up the road without it's lights and almost killed my best friend. We never played that game again after that day, but we where still idiots for playing it in the first place.
I feel sorry for all involved here, because playing a game like that is obviously going to end bad one day. Why they even had there seat belts on shocks me, also the car not starting is a bad bad bad sign. Stupid game. The parents not taking away the keys after finding out the kids had played the game before was just idiotic. My child would be grounded until they hit 18 if I ever heard something so ridiculous. I didn't have a car in High School or a Cell Phone. Parents need to stop being friends with their kids and start being parents.
You are much cooler when you teach a child right from wrong.
Natural Selection at its finest.
Country a** kids really do stuff like that for fun?wow!I knew they were white before i read the story. My prayers go out to their families.Use your heads white people.
And blacks NEVER do anything stupid do they? Tell that to the douche in the WhiteHouse.
Its crazy how teens dont value their life as much as adults. They play lots of daring and life risking games outta spite. Then the ones who are too scared to cooperate get teased into playing. They dont value life as much as adults because they think they will live forever and they seem to have a false sense of reality, thinking their courage and coolness is gonna ensure their safety. I hope some teens are reading this article and learn a life lesson. God bless those kids.
It's a Jeep thing....you wouldn't understand.
