Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office
Max Reinhart is a German literature professor at the University of Georgia.
A University of Georgia professor of German and Slavic studies has been charged with prostitution in the Atlanta suburb of Gwinnett County, officials said.
Max Reinhart, 65, was arrested Thursday after investigators answered an ad on an online message board, Backpage.com, according to local media reports. The website has an "adult" section that includes "escorts" and "bodyrubs," and has faced scrutiny over accusations that it is used to traffic underage girls for prostitution.
According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, investigators said Reinhart placed an ad in the "Transexual Escorts" section. After spotting it, investigators arranged a meeting at a Days Inn hotel room rented by Reinhart, who went by the name "Sasha."
After they negotiated a $60 fee for services, he was arrested. He was charged with prostitution and keeping a house of prostitution, because he rented the hotel room, the Journal-Constitution reported.
Gwinnett County jail records showed he was released Thursday evening on $4,800 bond, the Journal-Constitution said.
The professor teaches German literature and history in the Germanic and Slavic studies department in the university. His primary areas of research are early modern Germany, and he founded The Conference Group for Interdisciplinary Early Modern German Studies.
The conference brings together scholars from the arts and sciences to promote German society and culture.

University officials would not comment but told msnbc.com that they will review the incident and consider further action.
All employees of the university are required to report any arrest to the school within 72 hours or face further disciplinary action and possible termination, university officials said.
Reinhart could not be reached Friday morning for comment.

Somehow this should be worded differently. The solictor is different from the prostitute, and it is the latter who logically gets the prostitution charge. This professor should be referred to in the sense of "being charged with soliciting for sex", not arrested on prostitution charges per se.
No, I think you read this wrong, I had to go back to it again. He was actually the prostitute.
Who cares, it's dumb anyway
If they were looking for underage prostitutes they certainly missed the uboat. Your tax money at work making America a safer place.
This is so silly, why should anyone care about what an adult does on his own time !?
Yeah.. I have no issues with the authorities following up on this. They should have... no so much to catch this guy, but if there is a possibility of a child ring they need to do their jobs to find out.
I do not.. however.. see the need to plaster this guy so openly in public.
Since when does renting a hotel or motel room constitute operating a house of prostitution?
Legalize it so that it can be regulated. That would solve many of the problems associated with prostitution.
I can't grasp why law enforcement wastes tax payer money prosecuting someone for soliciting sex with another consenting adult. Gwinett Country, Georgia has enough "real crimes" to deal without entrapping someone for attempting to purchasing sex.
Yet another teacher gone bad!
Backcountry
You are exactly right!! This is the case with MANY MANY issues that the United States has made the unbelievable decision to make illegal and therefore a law enforcement issue! Drugs are a health issue yet they have set it up so that cops are trying to fix the unfix-able that is something that they are not trained to do in the first place, treat a medical condition!
If prostitution were legalized and regulated we wouldn't be seeing the "super clap" spreading in the US as bad as it is as well as the record number of warts, herpes etc. It is simple supply/demand regulated versus supply/demand unregulated, which is better, a system where people and product are tested for safety/quality (I am referring to both drugs and prostitution here) and used/administered in a controlled setting or keep the current sysytem in place where there is no testing or quality assurance and therefore assuring to make sick the people who are going to keep up with their lifestyle regardless of the legal status of what their actions may be. Most will continue to become disease carriers or hopelessly sick addicts who self administer drugs that are contaminated with chemicals/impurities! The fact is we still foot the bill for this anyways and that bill could be so much less if we as a nation would start to take a reasonable approach to what we choose to do with people who are doing what they want to do with their bodies/minds!!
Creepy, and this creature is what is educating our youth? Ewwwwww
Crystal: I hate to be the one to break it to you, but college professors have sex once in a while. I'm sure you'll adjust. If your son/daughter were a German major and this "creature" were the best German professor in the nation, wouldn't you want your kid to be taught by him??
Sasha!! Haha, can you imagine if this was your professor what you would be thinking right now? Who would pay $60 dollars for a half hour with that old fart?!?
His motto: "Pimp oneself!"
Our laws are still puritanical, repressive and dangerous...this guy was just getting his jolly's, and no one was getting hurt.....now the poor jamoke is shamed, out of work, and washed up
Wow!! They caught Grandpa having a little fun!! I guess he is out of the closet now...
I want to know who is paying for sex with him. Whoever it is, they must have a Michael Myers fetish.
Another person tied to the bumper of the government pick-up truck being dragged down the street of public ridicule and humiliation; all for engaging in an activity that would be totally legal were it not for exchange of money.
Pathetic.
Agreed. Whatever blows your dirndl up, I say, as long as it's between consenting adults.
The lesson here is to always film said activities. That way you're making LEGAL porn, not engaging in prostitution. ;)
^ Thank you, Family Guy.
I feel so much safer now, knowing that this horrible criminal is off the street. How dare he offer a service to a willing individual? Even more, how great that all of this gets national attention. After all, isn't this a crime worthy of ruining a mans entire life? Horrible....horrible...dangerous criminal!
No kidding, I don't understand why prostitution is even a crime unless it involves unwilling or underage individuals. It is perfectly legal to go sleep with anybody you could ever want to, but the second money comes into play its illegal? Why should the government care at all what we do with our bodies? Not to mention some people rely on prostitution to get their jolly on, so it makes them happy and someone is earning money for it.... maybe just bc they can't find a way to tax it! How come, though, it is legal for women to have "sugar daddies"? Isn't that the same thing, sex in exchange for something of value?
The reason it's a crime is that the government isn't making any money off it.....all the crap about morality is just B.S. Most of the up-tight people who complain about prostitutes and porn are their biggest customers
Beyond that, if kids can be saved,it's worth the cops' time, but I'm sure they knew there wearn't any kids involved before they made their "date".
Now if they could only arrest the Professors that promote Islam and Hate of America.
And where are they? I don't know any and I see professors every day. Do you know any professors? Do you have any evidence beyond your extreme bigotry to support this inane statement?
Haven't you heard of Ward Churchill, look it up.
Yeah..just google it. There is one extreme whack job in Tampa teaching.
@Johnny92078
Yeah because that damned First Amendment is such a pain in the ass! Oh...wait.
And exactly why shouldn't Ward Churchill have the same first amendment rights to express his opinions of the US as anybody else?
Why is the majority of these depraved activities conducted by those in the teaching profession? Just saying....
mrkw: and your evidence that "the majority of these depraved activities" are "conducted by those in the teaching profession" is what exactly?
He just wanted to show them his von shtroker.
Open your mouth and close your eyes, and you will get a big suprise! LMAO!
I don't know about you folks, but I'm reading about a victimless crime. Nobody's being hurt or forced to do anything they don't want to do. I think law enforcement efforts could be better used than this pathetic, meaningless story.
Wouldn't he be a professor of Saliva Studies?
Gross.....must be trying to divert attention from our presidential TV appearance lying to the public to get re-elected....UGH!!!!
Believe me man, the Demoncrats are desperate, on the ropes and will do ANYTHING to divert bad press/attention away from them!!
@gatorboy
Clearly nothing could divert your attention away from our President. Do you sleep at night or just lie there awake thinking about how you can bring him into every single conversation? Typically psychiatric help works wonders for obsessive behavior, have you looked into that?
WHO CARES? As long as no one is being forced and can reasonably agree to this job, who should give one cent, let alone two, let alone have a sting on it.
I feel so much safer knowing law enforcement is not wasting there time with crimes like murder. Now they need to go see if they can bust somebody with a joint, a real threat to society.
Get rid of all of the left wing liberal educators. Its our only hope.
Do you have any evidence this man is a left wing liberal? And do you think the first amendment guarantee of freedom of speech somehow excludes college professors from its protections?
are they trying to embarras the professor
because there is nothing wrong with love as long as love isnt hurting others
we ride a high and mighty horse in the united states
to bad its a wooden horse
and that meens you get nowhere on it get the hint?
and yet the peeps who pass laws like this are more corrupt than the peeps arrested for the law the corrupt created
its like sitting on a carrosel thinking its path will get you home faster than walking
ew!!!!
Really...the police have nothing better to do...ffs
Don't hate the police for doing their jobs. They don't get to decide which laws to uphold or not. If this is so troubling for you then get the laws making sex for sale off of the books. THEN the police will have better things to do.
LMAO, you pays your money and you takes your chances. Sick knowing this is the same guy who teaches young people.
You sound like a bigot. It's the prostitution that's the crime. Not the sex act.
How would you like to be paying tuition at UGA to have your kid subjected to clowns like this? Better still, when they graduate they can't get a job after you shell out all that money.
If my kid were a German major and this "clown" was the best German professor in the nation, you BET I'd want to pay tuition for my kid to study with him. His sex life is none of my (or the university's) business.
sometimes the police are all about humiliating someone because of their differences ...pee pee police wasting our tax dollars...did they help any underage prostitutes get back on track with their life?..nope..just ruined some old farts life because he had some strange cravings which where not hurting anyone...
he just wanted some of that southern redneck luvin
A crime has been committed. This professor is the victim. We live in a cruel world.
"Reinhart placed an ad in the "Transexual Escorts" section."
Sandusky, Luka Magnotta and now this sick sack a trash... Yall some nasty M'Fers!
Seems like entrapment. Was $60 worth loosing your reputation and possibly a high paying job at a university?
entrapment?. The professor placed the ad!
Entrapment would be the POLICE placing the ad - to people not interested in this crap.
I'm kinda sad about this whole thing. This guy has an alternate sexuality, that he is trying to keep private, is hiring willing participants, and now his whole life is ruined because we felt we had to go out of our way to prosecute a victimless crime. Who was benefitted by this?
Leave this poor guy alone - he was horny. Who cares if he called a hoe, that's what their for.
You missed the point, he was the ho.
