In order to be "black" do you have to rob convenience stores, rape girls, leave a bunch of fatherless children around, drive by shoot someone, carry a nine, kill someone with your 9, spent time in prison and sport prison tats? According to Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the inner city school systems, that is exactly what you do if you are "black".

But, if you are merely black and not "black", you finish school, you have a job, you marry, you raise your kids, you take responsibility, you don't carry a 9, you don't shoot anyone and you don't rape anyone and you don't have a tribe of illegitimate kids coming up the gangbanger ladder, you are just an uncle Tom and don't deserve a whit of support from the "black" leaders. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

The guy with the gun was attacked by two of the people he shot. One of the victims used his fists and the other used a bottle to hit the shooter on the head, then the shooter pulled his gun. As far as the parents go they should have raised their son not to pick a fight over a girl, especially if the guy you pick a fight with has a gun.

Not saying contemporary "white culture" is anything special, but we have less than half the illegitimacy rate as the African American Community, and when you see all this stupid shooting crap, it almost always is black on black. The fact of the matter is that in reality, most of the time a young black kid wants to do good in school, go to college and be a respectable productive citizen, he is called an 'Uncle Tom' or told that he must 'Think you're better than everyone else' and also told to give it up, 'You always gonna be just like the rest of us!.'

The worst part of all that is the fact that it is his black friends that say those things...I have seen it happen many times. It is common. Things have gotten so bad, you can't even hold constructive conversations. There are racists of every color. And, I know a few white ones, who think that they aren't (but they've never listened to themselves talk). There are also educated black men, who can't speak the truth to their own race. Look at the response that Bill Cosby (with an earned doctorate in education) got, a few years ago when he suggested that the black community would be better off if more black men got jobs, and stayed in the home, to raise their kids. Neither race is blameless. But, its black men hurting black kids. Yeah, there are stable, upstanding black men who pay their bills, and taxes, and raise their kids (along with their hardworking wives), but too often they are the exception. There may be stories like this, with white victims, and white shooters, but for some reason, we hear about way more black ones. Its a shame that black men are way overrepresented in prison, but could that be because black men are way overrepresented among criminals? But, that's not just a "black" problem! Black crime, and black punishment cost each of us lots of taxes, and adds to the basic problem. The south (my stomping grounds) has wasted too much of our talent pool, over the last 1.5 centuries, with racism. Now, the whole country is wasting much of its talent pool, as well. I'd like to think we can look at this problem, our common problem, of wasting our people, and come up with sensible solutions. Unfortunately, that's not our way. The American way is to blame everything on the latest big bunch of immigrants (the germans early, then the jews, the irish, the poles, the italians, now the latinos [and always the blacks] ). Perhaps you do not look at television and see all the advertising to give money to help starving African children. Sadly this is all true and all real. The world and the America that you describe is one that many of us, Muslims and Christians alike, pray for every day! Yes, there are a lot of the African Americans that are great people with great jobs that do great things, but you are taking the discussion here the wrong way. I haven't seen anyone on here say the entire black community is bad or anything like that but you go with "So for you Bigots and cowards who fear rather live, Run and tell that!" Why do some people think the way they do about parts of the "black" community? It's not out of blind bigotry. It's experiences people have had that create those stereotypes. I went to a Jr High and High School that was roughly 50% white and 50% black and two of my best friends are black. But I also got jumped, picked on, and stuff stolen from me from a lot of the black thugs at the school since I was a smaller white guy. So these experiences make me see a percentage of the black community in a negative light. Then if you also take in the prison statistics that state "Black males represented the largest percentage (35.4 percent) of inmates held in custody, followed by white males (32.9 percent) and Hispanic males (17.9 percent)." And "Black males continue to be incarcerated at an extraordinary rate. Black males make up 35.4 percent of the jail and prison population — even though they make up less than 10 percent of the overall U.S population. Four percent of U.S. black males were in jail or prison last year, compared to 1.7 percent of Hispanic males and .7 percent of white males. In other words, black males were locked up at almost six times the rate of their white counterparts." You can see how people have the impression they do of a certain part of the black community.

The fact is people tend to commit crimes against the people they know. Whites kill more whites than Blacks do but nobody ever talks about white on white crime. When you factor in poverty then Black on black crime is really no more common than any other racial group on same group stats.

@tsucker - the reason that it appears to you that this is black culture is because this is all that you are shown by the media. But the reality is that it is not the norm for black culture. It is an issue that relates to poverty. There has been an increase in the black poverty rate. About 27% percent of black Americans live in poverty. But over 70% of us do not. The behavior of thugs comes from their lack of means. So what you see is a poverty culture that is closely tied to a criminal culture but it is not black culture. And black people are the biggest victims of this poverty epidemic. Many of us have to live with the crime on a daily basis. Especially since high rise housing projects were torn down. The population of impoverished blacks was contained in one area. The tearing down of the projects spread that population and the crime that comes with it throughout urban cities and black neighborhoods. This factor made a huge impact on black neighborhoods. When I was growing up the criminals lived and did their dirt in the projects. Now, due to the Section 8 vouchers and other subsidies that project families were given, these criminals live next door and are doing their dirt all over. So no one suffers from this more than the black population. When projects were torn down, the people living there did not have the social means to make a honest living so it should have been obvious that crime would spread like wildfire when whoever made that decision made it. Some times I wonder if this was done intentionally.

And I do agree that blacks who can make an impact should do so. But you must understand that there are different social classes amongst blacks. I am almost 40 and I never had friends that lived in the projects. For the most part, the poor blacks hung out with other poor blacks and those of us who were better off hung out with others who were better off. Many blacks do not understand the poverty culture and are really baffled and don't know what to do. In fact, most blacks feel terrorized by this behavior and just want to stay away from it. We don't understand why no one is helping us to fight this war on terror. We feel betrayed by those who brought this behavior into our communities. The powers that be had to know that this would be the outcome. Just because you are black, it does not mean that you know or understand poverty or criminal culture. This is a socio-economic issue not a race issue. And some, like myself, are trying to address the problem. It is a problem - a problem that deeply affects the black community as a whole. Not only does it bring terror but it is a cause of the rise of hatred of blacks in the country. As wrong as they are, many white people do think that this is black culture so they attack all blacks - even the over 70% of us who have never has anything to do with the poverty or criminal culture. I have experienced more racism over the past 10 years than ever. And I have never been poor. I actually am among the top 6% of income earners in this country but when white people see me all they see is my skin color so they assume and treat me as if I am some type of low-life - despite all of my many accomplishments. Imagine the effect that has on a person's pyche. Do you know what it feels like to read all of the anti-black posts that swarm the internet? And all of this because white people have erroneously lumped all blacks into the same category. Some of us are so weighed down dealing with this new, extreme anti-black sentiment that white people have created - that we don't have the mental energy to try to help the poor black community. The question is - what is the solution?

No one is saying that there isn't a "minority" of blacks who live a criminal culture. The problem is that you see all black people as people who are a part of a criminal or poverty culture. Martin was not a criminal nor was he living in poverty. He never did anything that the average white teen does not do. But yet people see him as a criminal or thug just because he is black. Sometimes I think that it makes some white people feel better about themselves when they see only what they want to see. It helps them to justify their hatred and racist views. The fact, supported by every type of reliable statistic, and reality is that the "majority" of black people are not a part of the criminal or poverty culture even though many white people have convinced themselves otherwise.

The article clearly states that the mueder suspect had been charged in 2008 with carrying an unlicensed weapon. Should we outlaw guns so that only the criminals and thugs carry one? The majority of shootings that are reported on are not carried out by law abiding citizens. What would happen if only the criminals have guns? We see what they do with them, and it certainly isn't hunting. They shoot each other and innocent people.
