Alleged global child porn kingpin extradited to US, charged

The accused founder and operator of a hardcore child porn distribution site was charged in a New Jersey court Monday on 32 counts of child exploitation, money laundering and related offenses after being extradited from Thailand, prosecutors announced.

Ukrainian citizen Maksym Shynkarenko, 33, was arrested in Thailand in 2009 for the material distributed internationally through an array of web sites which featured photographs and videos of children being sexually assaulted and abused.

The extradition process was completed and he was moved to the United States over the weekend, New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced in a statement on Monday.

"As the latest step in an investigation that has resulted in the convictions of more than 560 offenders from 47 states, Shynkarenko’s extradition from Thailand to a New Jersey courtroom is a milestone in one of our most important fights – keeping our children safe from harm," the statement said.

According to the indictment, a variety of web sites run by Shynkarenki, under names such as Illegal.cp, Hottest Child Porn Garden, Sick Child Room, Hualuma, and Real Child Porno offered  subscribers access to thousands of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse and exploitation of boys and girls ranging from infants to teenagers.

According to the attorney general's statement the initial page of  the site called Illegal.cp offered subscribers this advice: Upon accessing the "Illegal.CP" website, the initial: "Our site is considered to be illegal in all countries.... Even if you ever have problems with police, you can always say that someone had stolen the information from your credit card and used it. It is very difficult to establish that you were the person to pay."

Month-long ICE crackdown nets 190 child porn suspects; 18 victims rescued

From as early as December 2003 through July 2008, Shynkarenko and co-conspirators earned hundreds of thousands of dollars by selling access to child pornography, the court document said.

The indictment alleges that Shynkarenko and co-conspirators developed elaborate systems to appear as legal merchants and conceal their identity from credit card companies and law enforcement, and then deposited their earnings in banks around the world, including New Jersey, Latvia, Estonia, and the Ukraine.

The investigation, which started in 2005, was a joint effort of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and Homeland Security Investigation unit of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Attorney General Fishman.

It said that if convicted, Shynkarenko faces a statutory minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 20 years on each of 15 counts of transportation and shipment of child pornography, and additional penalties on the other charges.

If this guy gets anything less than the maximum, there is no justice at all

He should never be out again; he is a monster for whom the death penalty would be too swift a punishment. He killed the spirit of these poor children and inflicted great harm upon them. Mothers from impoverished areas of Thailand sell their children and care little what happens to them afterwards and this guy took advantage of their poverty and ignorance. He knew better and is nothing but a pervert. My heart goes out to those poor children. How can we know that none of them died during the time he ran this evil scheme ?

I am glad that law enforcement located this sub-human. Whatever may happen to him now, may it fit the crime.

What is sad is that he operated for so long, and it takes locking him up for life in a US prison to matter. Does anybody else have any law enforcement whatsoever?

@Derej-381097: Thailand is well known for its sex trade and caters to sexual tourists, which includes the sexual abuse and exploitation of minors by these mental defectives, which is most likely why he was caught in Thailand. It's a hot spot for these mentally defective sexual deviants. At least this dirt bag and 560 others that were somehow involved in this tragedy have been caught.

It seemed as if it were a big game that he was deriving pleasure from. Hope he's having a hard time in the Peruvian prison and he is somebodys s*x toy/girlfriend and that he's not enjoying that role.

Actually... go ahead... make him a deal... for less time served...

he turns over every asset and monies made to go to cause to fight this abhorrent trade... he turns in people that support or "buy" into his trade... he gets a deal that after he testifies... does not give him special privilege or solitary...

and put him in a prison with that reduced time deal with population of those that have nothing to lose and no chance of getting out... the prisoners will welcome him in the manner in which he deserves and if we're lucky... his ever getting out will become a non-issue.

Just fill in the blanks with any groups you choose. It doesn't matter who does it. It is wrong wrong wrong of whoever is doing it.

If this guy could somehow survive being anally raped by a chainsaw for the next 50 years straight, there would still be no justice. Until everyone alive who has ever sexually assaulted a child is rounded up and thrown in a giant pit together, then the pit is sealed up and they are left to suffocate/starve/eat each other, there will be no justice for sexually abused children.

My guess is these people have some type of mental defect that can NEVER be fixed, and despite being punished, if they are ever caught and punished JUSTLY, they will continue to repeat their hideous behavior. They can receive all the therapy and rehabilitation our tax dollars can provide, but they WILL NEVER CHANGE. This genetic or mental defect or whatever it is will always be with these monsters. What you can't seem to understand is that grown men who sexually exploit little children are no one's friend, and if you are their friend, then your ass needs to be on a list of very scary people. A child rapist who has tortured the souls of probably thousands of little children and you are offended by the thought of him being corn holed in prison. With friends like you out there, I'm glad I don't have children. Careful using the word creepy when expressing kindness for a pederast, in itself, one of the more creepy things you can do. You sound like a defense attorney for the accused, you don't have kids, or you're a cold person, I don't know which. It is not necessary for someone to have been a victim of sexual abuse to want these perverts punished. The thought of what these monsters do to children is mindboggleing, and most people cannot wrap their mind around a behavior such as this. I suppose for certain heinous crimes, people believe in "an eye for an eye" or "give them a taste of their own medicine" type of justice when the crime commited is incomprehensable to most people, and the punishment does not fit the crime. Prison is too good for these animals, they will serve their time and be released. The victims of these animals, the infants, children, and teens, have had a lot more taken away from them by these perverts than some prison time behind bars.

What is the value of a child moving into adulthood and never, ever able to leave the nightmare behind??? What is an entire family worth??? Recidivism in these cases is very high. But you are right, some of these kids will never be able to let go of these things that have happened to them, and it will effect them for the rest of their lives. Personally, I hope these perverts are put in the general population in prison and do receive an eye for an eye justice every day for the rest of their miserable lives. They are nothing but oxygen stealers on this planet. Whatever good they may have done in their lives outside of their perversions is cancelled out by their sick acts. They do not deserve any mercy. You people obviously have never been on the wrong side of justice machine. I will not believe in any of the convictions for any crime. Until I myself have been witness. I will not follow a blindly while innocent people are convicted for the good of the procecution. The state or whatever faction you want to reppresent you. They are constantly making of lies far from the truth land more people in the Prison machine

@Kellen: Unfortunately, we do not live in a utopian society, and some people do bad and sometimes horrific things to other people. If you are on the wrong side of the justice machine, chances are you belong there. If there were witnesses to every crime, as you suggest, chances are a lot of crimes would not be committed.

WhatigoingoOHere. Lets get something straight. The chances are that you would fall victim to the Justice machine are far greater now than they were before the constitution. That is because they are better at it. And unlike the lowlife serial killer they get away with it.

@Kellen: I'm sure there are innocent victims of the "justice machine", and by the sound of your comments, perhaps you are one. However, that doesn't mean we should scrap the entire judicial system. Per your comment, should these perverts be let go because no one witnessed their crimes? How do you know no one witnessed their crimes. Electronic/computer records are pretty reliable as evidence.

No problem, Kellen. After all, the U.S. government (U.S. attorneys, not state attorneys) probably just extradited him from Thailand because they thought he might be witness to something and they wanted to ask a question, right? The Tai government, after review, agreed he might know something, and thought they'd send him on over for questioning, eh? The Ukraine, to whom he no doubt appealed, went ahead and let it slide because he's innocent, and they figured it was just a few questions, right? You don't think the evidence was pretty damning if he were EXTRADITED LEGALLY?!? And was a Ukraine living in Thailand anyway, well known for its very loose sex areas?

No doubt while you were busy voting not guilty, you could also let him baby sit your child.

He'll get his day in court, no doubt. If he's innocent, there's a good chance he'll walk despite the heinous nature of the crime. For all the stories about wrongful conviction, they don't happen often. But your bleeding heart bull@!$%# is part of why child molesters get second (and third, and fourth) chances. While I hope it never happens to another child, maybe if you spent some time assessing the damage these monsters do, you might be a little less liberal.

At what point does someone aspire to be a "Child Porn Kingpin". Someone is sitting around thinking, "Well, there's no such actual job title as "Absolute Worst Piece of Sh*t on Earth", so I guess I'll become a Child Porn Kingpin. I mean, you'd hope child porn, well first wouldn't exist at all, but if it does, would be some small operation here or there by some sick scumbags that unfortunately exist. But there is someone out there who decides that they are an enterprising, ambitious child pornographer who is going to be one of the biggest? There seems to be no limit to the depravity of humans. As George Carlin once said (referring to necrophelia), "a rat will do a lot of disgusting things, but it won't f*** another dead rat".

On a side note, I'm a little weirded out that I was able to spell "necrophelia" correctly, (according to the spell checker), on my first try ever.

Whatever I am not a bleeding heart you are unimformed of the truth about most of these cases. But hey it is free country and if you want to believe what the prosecution says that is your right. I on the other hand will never bite on that bait ever again. They are and until they have proven to me otherwise are decietful liers that only want to convict to better their careers. Most of publc defenders are in bed with the prosecution. So if you want me to think that all of these victims are truly victims. YOU might want to have some proof before comdeming my views.

                      Kellen Miller,

Some of your verbiage indicates you may be foreign to America. Whether you are simply stoking the coals, attempting to fan flames, I cannot say. I can say that your rhetoric could not be more insensitive, if it were deliberate. Yes, corruption does happen in every legal forum in existence. It has and it will continue. And yes it does suck when you are in the crosshairs of such behavior. However, when it does happen, that is not justice, it is criminal behavior. No criminal behavior represents justice, ever.

This is the kind of story every good person loves to read and hear about. Can you imagine the incredible numbers of children who were saved and will be protected because of the the dedication of these men and women? After 7 years of work and relentless pursuit, we will never truly know what child did not or will not be falsely imprisoned and molested and abused. All we do know is that thanks to these men and women our children are safer now. Congratulations to Law Enforcement and Good Job. Thank You so very much.

                      Excellent post and excellent point.

km seems to be stuck on the false imprisonment thing which is only a part of what happens to these innocents.

It would seem I am not the only one thrusting rhetoric around here. I am from here and my points of argument are not all about false imprisonment. But that is a good precursor to everything and all the accusation being thrown my way. I have said and with every one capitalizing on that I do not believe all these cases are abuse. I do believe that the prosecution fabricates lies and is deceitful. And will convince witnesses that the accused are guilty and exaggerate the incidents or make them up all together. So really I might have become insensitive. But that is my right I am not callous or seeking will ill. I just do not believe anything the prosecution has to say. Victim or not

                        #20.2 - Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:17 AM EDT

@Kellen Miller: So are you proposing that the prosecution has fabricated mounds of evidence which includes videos of INFANTS, children and teens being sexually assaulted and abused? And have they also fabicated charges against 560 people located in 47 states? Are you proposing that any of these infants, children, and teens were willing participants and not the victims of sexual assault and abuse for the sole purpose of making money for the so called kingpin or porn (I'm sure you also take offense at labeling this monster that) and the sexual gratification of the perverted freaks of nature who get off on this? Are you serious?

I agree and disagree with a lot of you. This man is pure evil and should be dealt with. The suggestions that you made are truly an answer to a very disgusting practice that some "so-called" humans find interesting. I truly believe that he should be placed in Federal prison for the rest of his life and allow the fellow inmates to administer their own brand of justice. I would also like to do away with all of these people, but I will allow God to make his final judgement; let's not go down the drain with him.

A Ukrainian citizen is extradited from Thailand to the US for pornography charges? This is ridiculous. No government should have this much power! Is the US government claiming the whole world as it's jurisdiction?

Time to shut down the US justice system. It has no business interfering with the entire world!

@expatdownunda: Are you saying if you commit a crime and leave the states you should be able to get away with it? Or that it's ok to have your base of operations for such things as internet kiddie porn overseas? That porn was marketed, purchased and viewed here in the states by 560 people in 47 different states, that's why the creep was extradited.

Can you even begin to wrap your mind around a grown man having sex with an infant. This man and everyone who even viewed this sick behaviorism need to die. How those infants and children must have suffered.
