Subscribe to RSSThe winning ticket for the Powerball lottery worth $241 million was sold at an Iowa grocery store, state lottery officials said.
The ticket, the state's biggest lottery winner to date, was sold at an Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids, the Iowa Lottery said in a statement.
The winner of the Wednesday's drawing has yet to come forward and employees are not sure who the winner or winners are.
"We hope that whoever it is, it's a good local citizen that shops Hy-Vee and enjoys their new found wealth," store manager Jason Busswitz told msnbc.com.
The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket. The winning numbers were 7, 10, 14, 33, 57 and the Powerball 18.
Iowa Chief Executive Officer Terry Rich said in the statement that because the identity of winners is public information and the prize is so large, he urged them to secure the ticket in a safe place before coming forward and to consult legal or financial advisers.
"This truly is a life-changing amount of money and we want our winners to have the information they'll need as they make their decisions," he said. "Whoever has the winning ticket should sign it immediately if they haven't already done so for safe keeping."
The prize is the 15th largest Powerball jackpot to date, the Iowa Lottery said.
The store alone had 692 plays for the jackpot.
If the winner chooses to receive a lump sum payment, the total will be $160.3 before taxes and $112 after taxes. If they choose the option of payments over 30 years, payment will total the $241 million.
Past Powerball winners include:
Thomas Morris of Minnesota who won $228 million in August, the largest jackpot in the state at the time.
Louise White of Rhode Island won $336 million in Feburary, the third largest Powerball prize ever.
Co-workers Darin Foxx and Todd Reardon of Indiana who won $221 million in April of last year.
Lottery officials scheduled a morning news conference at the store where the ticket was sold.
