A man in Connecticut called 911 when a deli sandwich wasn't made to his liking. WVIT-TV's Todd Piro reports.
A Connecticut man knows how he likes his sandwich, and so does the 911 dispatcher who took his call on Wednesday afternoon complaining about how it was made.
“I specifically asked for little turkey, and little ham, a lot of cheese and a lot of mayonnaise and they are giving me a hard time. I wonder if you can stop by and just … ,” he said when he called 911 from Grateful Deli in East Hartford on Wednesday afternoon.
You can listen to the full call here.
But, here are the highlights:
The dispatcher remains calm and manages to calm Rother McLennon down, all while trying to make him realize that a sandwich, no matter how much it differs from what he asked for, is no reason to call 911.
“You’re calling 911 because you don’t like way that they’re making your sandwich?” the dispatcher asks.
“Exactly,” he said.
With that settled, the dispatcher offers some advice:
“So, then, don’t buy it,” she said.
But McLennon, who seems to be a regular at the deli, tells her he’s not just calling about this sandwich. He also fears that they won’t make his sandwich to his specific request in the future.

“I mean, I just want to solve this the right way,” he said. “Her sister made it, but she left. They are playing games with me, so I was just wondering if you could come by,” he said. “I just want it resolved and I want to be able to come back here and get the regular sandwich that I ask for.”
The call ends with more advice to the caller
“In the future, just don‘t buy the sandwich,” 911 tells him.
“I’ll look at it before I buy it,” he said.
Tila Azinheira, who owns the deli, said the man placed a phone order for 14 sandwiches and they made them the way he asked. Then, he did not want to pay for them.

Azinheira said the deli told the man they could not take the sandwiches back because they were special orders, then he used the deli's phone to call 911.
McLennon called the deli on Thursday to apologize and tell them that he would be coming back in the future for more sandwiches, the deli owner said.
No information was immediately available on the man’s age or his hometown. Police have not filed charges.

Hey, I know how the man feels about his sandwich. Just like him, I prefer a little turkey and more cheese rather than the big mound of turkey and 1 slice of cheese. Don't know that I would call 911, but it is hard to get deli's to make the sandwich they way you want it. I always tell them if you need to charge me a little extra then go ahead, just make what I want and I'll pay. Places today just don't understand customer service.
I hope this idiot doesn't reproduce.
Bad service is not a crime. When you get bad service, just don't go back. It's not stealing, this guy got the goods, just not to his liking. Now if the sandwich had a warranty or a guarantee, that would be different.
No charges filed huh? It's nice to know that 911 is available for me to use as my personal advice line.
Ah, the ignorant, arrogant, single digit IQ demographic in our country. 9 out of 10 people are total douchebags who whine and moan over anything and everything. I was at a Subway once and some drooling moron walked back into the place complaining that there were 2 peppers on the left side of his sandwich and he wanted 3. Pathetic beyond words.
If you have never worked retail, you have no true appreciation for what truly screwed-up people walk our streets. And I say this having worked with the mentally challenged and demented!
Arrest and fine these idiots.
Someone could be dying and these fools are calling 911 because there food isn't right.
Do they even have a lick of common sense in their pea brains. Guess not.
If he isn't mentally deficient, this guy should be charged with making a nuisance call to emergency services. I think this is less than the whole story here.
Far Out !
Perhaps someone already made this point, and I don't say it to be mean, but it sounds like something a person with autism might do. Working in a school, I see this sort of thing all the time.
I believe the dispatcher did not do her job. She should have told the man 911 is for life & death emergencies and unless he is high and needs to have the police dispatched to arrest him for being under the influence, the call is ended.
Unbelieveable. The lengths people will go to in order to get what they want.
Bad news for the deli, though. The fool has threatened to come back!
I jumped the gun.I assumed-that's us-that's a white person problem.Doesn't sound like it though-shocking.And to those who care-undoubtedly he has,and is reproducing
Bath Salts strike again!!!
I guess msnbc dont have better stories to report. I only hope I never have to call 911 period. but if I did it would not be for bad service @ a deli. I would ask for or call the manager or the owner of the deli.
