Obama immigration order poses dilemma for eligible illegal immigrants

Jose Diaz-Balart of Telemundo discusses the immigration order with MSNBC-TV's Alex Wagner, NBC News' Luke Russert, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, Chicago Sun-Times reporter Lynn Sweet and BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith.

The Obama administration's announcement Friday that it would defer deporting most young illegal immigrants poses a dilemma for those who are eligible, as they must take a leap of faith that they won't jump to the head of the line for deportation if a future president rescinds the order.

Pete Williams of NBC News and Miranda Leitsinger of msnbc.com contributed to this report by M. Alex Johnson of msnbc.com and Jose Diaz-Balart of Telemundo. Follow M. Alex Johnson on Twitter and Facebook.

Under the order, the Obama administration wouldn't seek to deport illegal immigrants under 30 who entered the U.S. as children and meet certain other residency and education requirements for the next two years. They also would be eligible to apply for work permits, the Department of Homeland Security said. DHS is the parent agency of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The order could apply to as many as 800,000 young illegal immigrants, officials estimated. The Pew Hispanic Center, a project of the Pew Research Center, said later that even more immigrants — as many as 1.4 million children and young adults — could meet the eligibility requirements. That would be about 12 percent of the 11.2 million illegal immigrants estimated to be in the U.S. as of 2010.

But it's not at all certain how many of them will seek to take advantage of the order. That's because it requires eligible immigrants to step forward and ask for the deferment every two years.

Even though President Barack Obama said Friday that the order would "lift the shadow of deportation" over illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. while they were children, a future administration could choose to overturn the regulation, jeopardizing those who have identified themselves to the government as illegal immigrants.

A senior administration official, who briefed reporters on the policy Friday on condition of anonymity, conceded that "the executive can always change its mind about how to exercise discretion."

Skepticism, joy among illegal immigrants over Obama decision

NBCLatino: Obama's immigration policy shift sends ripples across the country

For Yelky Ramos, 20, a recent college graduate who came from the Dominican Republic when she was 13, the change means she should be able to get a job.

"We just hope that the way they're going to implement it is going to be fair to the undocumented youth and it won't be a trap, in which people will be applying for this type of deferral and then find themselves … (in) legal proceedings that might lead to deportation," Ramos told msnbc.com.

Even before Obama appeared in the White House Rose Garden to discuss the order Friday afternoon, Democratic campaign officials were trying to place responsibility for any such "trap" on Republicans, sending reporters "talking points" highlighting previous statements on immigration by Mitt Romney.

Romney, the presumed Republican presidential nominee, has said he would veto an immigration bill known as the DREAM Act, which would enact many of the policies the White House announced Friday. The measure has passed in the Democratic-led House but has been blocked in the Republican-led Senate.

The memos were meant to get the message out that a vote for Romney — who trails Obama by a significant margin among Latino voters — would be a vote to rescind Friday's order.

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano told NBC News that there was no immediate danger of applicants' being targeted for deportation, saying the order would be binding for the next two years regardless of who is president. That means Romney, if elected in November, could overturn it as early as 2014, however.

Rep. Charles Gonzalez, D-Texas, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, praised Obama on Friday for "taking action to avoid further injustices against young people."

But "a legislative remedy is still needed," he said.

Until one emerges, illegal immigrants must meet a narrowly specific set of requirements to be eligible for immunity, which DHS outlined in an eight-page document Friday:

  • They must be younger than 30.
  • They must have been brought to the U.S. before their 16th birthdays.
  • They must have been in the country for five continuous years.
  • They must have no criminal history.
  • They must have graduated from an American high school, earned an equivalent degree or served in the U.S. military.
  • They must pass a government background check.

Despite the fact their parents brought them here before they could make their own decisions, illegal is illegal. They should repay the kindness legal American citizens provided them in the way of education and other benefits of American life by returning to their own countries (although most are from Mexico) and apply their youthful engergies in solving that country's problems with poverty and violent drug industry and make it as good a place as Canada, which is a good border neighbor.

The article says that the WH sent memos to the press to get the message out that a vote for Romney is a vote to rescind the order. Is BO really going to run on that? Seems to encourage a vote for Romney. This will be an interesting strategy.

Also, one of the requirements is no criminal history. Would not "illegally" coming into the country be a crime? It is where I live.

Another political ploy by our "running scared" presidential candidate to attract Latino voters as that group will be the difference in the 2012 election; however, this could backfire with the other voter groups knowing he is just doing this now for political reasons. The key for voters is to look at the record of both men running and their achievements and make an honest decision as to which one can return our country to economic sanity. I know which candidate is my choice and hope you will make an educated decision also.

GK, I totally agree. Anything else would be unfair to those that go or went the legal route. So, let's see how eager those young illegals really are to become an American citizen or legal alien. Back to your country of origin and try from there where they will have a big advantage with English and knowing what the rules are.

Earn it folks - no free handout in Dumbama fashion. Work for it.

For people worried about illegal immigrants taking jobs away from American citizens, isn't this the best possible solution?

Employers hire illegal immigrants because they don't have to pay them a legal minimum wage or meet other safety standards because how could the workers file a greviance? So by legitimizing their work status here in the US, you ensure that these people have to compete with American citizens for employment on equal footing...Any disagreements?

Also, we don't have to spend exorbitant amounts of money rounding people up to ship them back to their country of origin.

As an aside, we already have the North American Free Trade Agreement so building a fence along our southern border doesn't stop people from "stealing" your jobs. It makes it easier! You physically fence people in to a country and corporations can move their operations there and ship back their products legally to the U.S. to sell to us...

More wiping his feet with the Constitution by Obama and Holder. They seem to forget they raised their right hand and swore to uphold the laws of this land, not just the ones they like.

I'm totally OK with the only government department being expanded in Romney's administration is the Justice Department. They are going to have lots to investigate once we get attorneys in there with integrity. They are going to be very busy investigating all of Obama and Holders actions.

Romney 2012 - (and a larger Justice Dept. to investigate Obama and Holder) !!

myspellcherisbroken,

You may have a point.

This White House directive may cause some voters to actually vote for Romney. However, since this order applies to illegal immigrants that came to this country as children, there is no issue of criminality. Children are not responsible for where their parents chose to transport them. Once they become age 18, it would be unreasonable to think that these young adults would engage in "self deportation."

I have to wonder about this strategy? I had a crew of legal Mexicans a couple of years back. They really get annoyed by those that jump the border or are brought by their parents. So I could actually see backlash from some legal immigrants who see the President trying to buy votes, not to mention all other Americans who are annoyed with a large portion of our assets used to cover, teach and care for illegals.

I think the President just put his other foot in his mouth after the private sector is just fine comment. It must be hard to walk like that, with both feet in your mouth.

I will say one thing in favor of the idea- as other gringos living in Mexico like myself well know, anyone who hires a Mexican kid to work will be getting one of the hardest and most responsible workers on the face of the earth.

They can put most U.S. workers to shame with their diligence. Many don't have much education but they sure have enough common sense and intuition to fill buckets to overflow.

If there is one thing they are NOT, it's lazy.

Now I will stand by for the onslaught of insults to me,however if you have never seen these kids work upclose you have no idea what you are talking about so just stuff your derogatory insults.

BamBam basically just shot himself in both feet (figuratively speaking, of course). He has just ticked off moderates on both sides of the political spectrum, immigrants who respected our laws and came here legally, and citizens who have been out of work for months and months, so he has lost a ton of votes with this action. Also, by having these illegals be elligible to get work papers and be able to look for work, he has just potentially added to the number of unemployed, and those numbers were against him to begin with. Congrats, Bammer! You've taken a giant step towards assuring your one-term status.

Obama is touted as a constitutional scholar and erudite lawyer, but he certainly doesn't know the definition of ILLEGAL. I noticed that something very important was missing from the criteria list: there is no expectation and requirement that the illegal seeking amnesty must be completely fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English. Since LEGAL immigrants and US citizens funded years of education for these illegals, the least we should demand is that these illegals are capable of speaking, reading, and writing in ENGLISH without assistance from their ESL tutors.

Just another day in Obama's pandering for votes world.

"I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally."

Many teens who are here illegally do not know it. Their parents often lie to them and tell them they were born here so that they won't say something they shouldn't-as children often do.

These children and teens have not done anything wrong. Their parents brought them over the border illegally. They had no say, and often on knowledge of it. There is no reason to punish them.

I understand the fear of rewarding the bahavior as it may encourage others. This is why I think that there needs to be 2 plans create. One to deal with the people who are here now-who have children who are American citizens or who we have paid to be educated and another plan to stop people from coming into the country illegally.

Either way, it makes me sad that there is so much anger towards these kids. Even if you don't feel that they should be able to stay, they did nothing wrong and are in a horrible situation which they did not create. To me, having them stay and get jobs with the education they have and pay taxes is a better solution than sending them back to a country they don't remember.

Oh, and that quote at the top was not made by Obama. It was made by Ronald Regan in October, 1984.

Joe B.,

Legitimizing the work status of these immigrants assures that you, a presumed citizen, has the ability to compete in the market place for employment with these immigrants on fair grounds.

Before, employers would hire the person here illegally because they could pay them pennies and disregard work-place safety requirements (because the illegal immigrant had no way to complain). Now, hiring former illegal workers doesn't give the business the competitive advantage it once enjoyed and they will hire the best worker from the labor pool for their open position.

Immigration is very complex as seen now across the globe. The US may be dealing with immigrants coming from Mexico, but many other countries are dealing with immigrants from Arab countries. So once very tolerant socialist countries are now getting very upset by this tide of immigrants.

The US history of immigrants is full of contention. Many legal citizens saw immigrants from Ireland or Italy taking their jobs, or frankly using services and having huge families and living in squalor. So it was very rough on the Irish. So Mexicans are not having it any harder than any other immigrant that came here illegally.

We currently do not have enough jobs for our legal citizens. Did Obama consider that? I think most people under better economic conditions would be in favor of improving legal immigration because we should want diversity. However, when a group becomes large enough to affect votes, that is when the dems begin to pander in a big way to court votes. So the best interest of the nation and in fact those immigrants are not considered.

It is true that the children of those coming here illegally cannot be held responsible as a child. However, what prohibits them from choosing to come here legally? So reset and begin again and do it right. Not doing so is staying in the weeds. I assume the reason is because of the time and money and also the exposure of their families that came here illegally.

I confess I am perplexed why more Mexicans do not return back to their homeland. I understand wanting to find a better life, but Mexico has a lower unemployment rate, and with their education ,etc. they could help their birth place. So why is Mexico a country that so many want to leave? Why not fix it? It is a rich resource country with a good geographic location.

It is my impression with many Mexicans would prefer to go back feeling a stronger bond to Mexico. So why not return now and make a difference there? Don't run. Stay and fight the crime and violence and improve the country they supposedly love.

Ok, so...an infant or young child that is brought here illegally, is raised here, goes to school here, and knows no other life but the one here, should somehow know that what they "did" was wrong? Uh, no. In the United States, people under the age of 18 are not legal adults and therefore must follow the discretion of their parents. Even in criminal cases, there is certain criteria that must be met in order for those children or teens to be tried as adults. So spare me the BS stating that they should have known better, especially if they're young children.

One thing that should really concern people who don't know is that because of quotas by the federal government only a certain number of Mexicans can get legal status. It is based on fairness to other regions of the world. And I am sure everyone will love this. Because of these quotas we are importing from regions in the middle east that really don't care for us. I was told by an immigration lawyer that if you are from the middle east, you can come here in five months. Mexicans wait ten years out of fairness to the rest of the world.

This "trap"is what happens when you have a president who chooses to violate the separation of powers and illegally legislate by executive order. The executive order does not have the force of law on that it can easily be overturned by the next president. Remember, by identifying yourself you also identify your illegal family.

My ancestors who did not come over near the Mayflower time came here from Italy and Ireland about 100 years ago. They came here legally-which meant, they got onto a boat-came here-got off-filled out papers and were here legally.

If that was all it took today, everyone would be legal. The vast majority of our ancestors did not have to do anything to be here legally other than just show up. Some had to kill native americans for land too, as I mentioned before. Not sure if that makes them more or less legal.

Either way, there is only so high I can climb on my horse in pride that my family came here legally as there was no way that they could not have. They showed up-they were legal. I'm not suggesting we go back to those days-but we can lose some of the self rightousness about it.

For people who are here illegally, most of whom come from poverty, the pathway to come here legally is nearly impossible. You live in a hut with no electricity or running water. Certainly no car. There is no mail delvery. You have no education and are not literate. How do you go to an embassy, fill out forms, receive forms back in the mail, return to the embassy....

But your family is starving and you hear there are opportunities there. Someone offers you a ride on a banana truck and you go. Perhaps we need to look at making legal entry possible for those in poverty-as they are the ones who are most likely to come here illegally.

Joe, you SHOULD BE SMART ENOUGH to know that there is no steps that they can go through to become legal U.S. Citizens. Many of the children brought here at an early age do not know they are here illegally until they try to get a drivers license, social security card, etc... And, once they do that, they are identified as being here illegally, which prevents them from ever being allowed back in this country legally. And, if you feel these actions are illegal, you are free to sue the government on the Constitutionality of it. (You would lose though, because immigration policy is administered by the INS, a part of the Executive Branch of Government.)

shamrock,

Legitimizing foreign workers already here helps the American looking for work. They no longer have to compete against someone that an employer can pay far less than they have to pay the american worker. Legalizing every person here illegally would help the American worker compete against illegal immigrants. Employers could no longer pay $1/hr and avoid meeting workplace safety regulations because the formerly illegal worker would now have the ability to file a greivance (so now you are not at such a competitive disadvantage in competing with illegal workers)

Stay and fight the crime and violence and improve the country they supposedly love.

Would you? Would you choose to raise your children in "crime and violence" where they have limited access to education and health care? Really?

What kind of parent would not do everything possible to give their kids the opportunities here? What parent would stay in poverty when across the border-their child could be educated, receive health care and a chance to not be a victim of violence?

We throw a lot of stones at these people for coming here illegally. And, yes, they are breaking the law. However, I question anyone who says they would keep their children in poverty when they could have a better life.

If my kids were sick, and there was medicine on the other side of the border-you better believe I would cross it.

If my kids were starving, and there was food on the other side of the border-you better believe I would cross it.

If my kids had no chance of leaving poverty, and there was education available to the on the other side of the border-you better believe I would cross it.

What kind of parent are you if you wouldn't? What kind of parent prioritizes another country's immigration law over their child's health and wellbeing?

I'm not saying it is right-I'm saying these are not evil people. These are people who made the same choice most of us would.

And these kids are the children of those that made that choice. Even if you do not believe allowing them to stay is right-can we stop some of the venom towards them?

There they have kings and dictators as heads of state. I would surmise that this philosophy was developed by our President during his formative years.

"Any of y'all Native Americans?"

Probably not, Socialist...but my ancestors came here legally, so you can stuff your argument, thank you very much

Not mine..........

Mine were transported here in a cargo hold. Does this mean I have to "self-deport"?

The fallacy and indignation of the "my family are all legal immigrants" astounds me. Lots of people got here in lots of different ways.

Plenty with Chinese ancestry got off in San Fran and worked the railroads..... no oath there...

Indentured Servitude accounted for a small but significant portion of southern population, before and during the civil War.... G'bye Irish....

Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act.... Later Scarface and Manolo (ok.. bad example, but you get the drift)

...and there are tons more examples......

but my ancestors came here legally, so you can stuff your argument, thank you very much

When will the native American get the same rights these illegals are getting? They were not allowed to speak their own language or hold on to their cultures. They had to live on reservations and their children had to go through "special" schools where their language and culture was to be driven out of them. Lets start cleaning up our act towards the peoples that were here first, before we jump on the bandwagon to take care of another county's problems.

Theres hundreds of people on a waiting list to enter this country, all illegals need to get the F#$K TO THE BACK OF THE line like others and wait their turn, oh my bad just cause they have a border to cross ILLEGALLY makes it right for them only! WE WERE ONCE A GREAT NATION!!!!!

Did you know that half of the people here illegally, originally came here legally? Yes, we were once a great nation, when we we had no immigration laws and welcomed everyone. We were a great nation until xenophobes were able to pass laws that excluded certain groups of people from immigrating here, based on the where they were from, or the color of their skin.

As the President, it is Obama's SWORN DUTY to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States...ordering the government to stop upholding federal immigration laws is a deliberate dereliction of the duties of his office. It is an impeachable offense....unlike getting a blowjob in the oval office. Obama is not the king of the United States...our government was established SPECIFICALLY to prevent one single person from having control of the government. The order is illegal and any person with any character would call him out on it.

I don't expect any noise from Democrats over it though...they need those latino votes.

This action is literally selling out our country for latino presidential votes...in general elections, voters have repeated rejected the "Dream Act" ideology so I guess Obama is going all dictatorial on us by ordering the DHS to ignore federal immigration laws and the repeated "will of the people" regarding letting illegals stay for amnesty; for all the noise Obama makes about believing in democracy and the rule of law, he sure does as much as he can to undermine it at every turn.

Get rid of this failed experiment as soon as humanly possible before he "orders" us into the very same socialism that we fought world wars to try to eradicate. Obama is the opposite of everything America stood for when America was "great".....

Honestly the issue of illegal children is a tough one. Our justice system is set up so that if your father commits murder and is caught, his children are not punished as well - even if the child is sitting in the getaway car. If it were an adult, they'd be an accomplice, but the law recognizes that children generally have little control over the actions of their parents. Say a child comes here when they are an infant, and grow up here their entire life, possibly having no clue to their illegal status. Is it right then that we would punish them for something they weren't in control of? Of the thousands of illegals here, we're talking about 12%, and they must basically prove to be productive citizens. I would probably be all right with that. However, if I were one of those children I sure as the world wouldn't dare out myself right before an election when this could be overturned!

You are right, but it would have been in the best interest of the US to convince corps, if they were going to relocate, to relocate to Mexico. It is in our best interest to have our neighbors have a reasonably close standard of living for if nothing else security. Kind of like we are not complaining about Canadians crossing the border for work because we do the same.

What another pathetic ttempt at pandering to a certain demographic. Obama has had three and a half years to address immigration issues and has done what? Now that his re-election chances are tanking he proposes to give illegals a two year hiatus with the implication that if Romney is elected that they would all be deported. How pathetic, but then that pretty much sums up his whole tenure as president. If Obama is re-elected then the whole illlegal immigrant issue will largely become moot. With no jobs, an exploding deficit and howling about "cheap" labor by the unions that dictate policy to Obama they are more likely to re-patriate to their home countries than stay here.

There is certainly a need for immigration reform. I beleive that there are many worthy hard working illegals that deserve citizenship. Unfortunately for those seeking legal status Obama has demonstrated his inability or even intention to get it done. Nor has he demonstrated an ability to achieve anything else that would provide opportunity to legals or illegals allike to prosper here. Conversely, Romney has demonstrated the ability to work with those across the aisle as well as create an environment for all to prosper. Obviously latino support is the prize Obama seeks. Unfortunately for Obama I think they will remember why they and there parents came to this country and realize that Romney is the best choice to achieve their goals. Like the old saying goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

  1. They must be younger than 30.
  2. They must have been brought to the U.S. before their 16th birthdays.
  3. They must have been in the country for five continuous years.
  4. They must have no criminal history.
  5. They must have graduated from an American high school, earned an equivalent degree or served in the U.S. military.
  6. They must pass a government background check.

Who is going to conduct 4. and 6. ? If it is the DHS or DOJ, then an immediate red flag is raised.

If Illegal Aliens (Immigrants) have FRAUDULENTLY obtained IRS refund checks in the amount of $ 4,200,000,000 annually by claiming the Additional Child Tax Credit for children (not theirs) living in Mexico, they certainly will LIE about their family history just to get on the Obama-Wagon.

Couple questions:

  1. Are these "folks" allowed to collect UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE ?
  2. How about those "folks" who meet the age criteria be allowed to obtain food stamps ?
  3. Will their parents be allowed to get on the "temporary" "permanent" resident list ? And how about their brothers, sisters, Aunts, and Uncles who live in their country of origin ?
  4. Will they be allowed to VOTE ?
  5. Will they be allowed to obtain a driver's license ? [Oh, some States like Washington State does allow that to illegal aliens (immigrants) anyway]

Another Mr. Obama bypassing Congressional procedures just to obtain VOTES. What ELSE is he going to do to obtain VOTES since he cannot count on votes for his performance while in office ?

"Under the order, the Obama administration wouldn't seek to deport illegal immigrants under 30 who entered the U.S. as children and meet certain other residency and education requirements for the next two years."

Unfortunately for Obama, he cannot bind a future President to any 'Executive Order' for 'the next two years'. His 'order' could be rescinded by a new President in just 7 months.

Also, his so-called 'Prosecutorial Discretion' is nothing but Obama picking which duly constituted laws to enforce and which ones to ignore - a clear violation of his oath of office to protect and defend all laws and the Constitution.

Acting like an 'Emperor' is not the way our country is supposed to be run.

Interestingly, the last time in recent memory that we actually had 'immigration reform' was the BIPARTISAN effort between Ronald Reagan and the Democratic led Congress in 1985. Perhaps a Republican President can get something done that a Democratic President cannot.

The entire system of Presidential Executive Orders needs to be dismantled. It completely ignores the checks and balances that the Founding Fathers put in place by granting temporary dictatorial powers to whoever occupies the Oval Office. The people's representatives voted on it and rejected it. That SHOULD be the end of it. Every single President who has had the ability to use this power has abused it. Obama is no different. Ruling by Presidential fiat is the stuff of tyrants, not democratically-elected representatives of the people.

First no argument that with this timing Prez Obama is probably trying to get additional legal Latino votes. However, quite a few of you are wrong. The president has the right and ability to decide which laws to enforce on a federal level and which to not waste time, effort, and money on. This is no different than the police officer sitting on the side of the road running radar deciding which of the people speeding to pull over and ticket. The only difference is the president has pre-announced it, his Executive Order-his prerogative, and the officer doesn't (though most people believe they are entitled to 5-10 mph over on the interstates). The reason for this discretion is simple; nobody wants to pay the increase in taxes to pay for the extra police, courts, jails, or other expenses involved to strictly enforce every federal, state, and local law on the books in this country.

Referenced earlier was a comment that many of the illegal aliens came here legally, for example on a student visa, (when your student visa expires you need to have it extended or you should leave this country). If you are here on a current student visa you by definition can not be an illegal alien and therefore this should not be relevant to you.

Undocumented people do come here with legal visas from all over the world, and some do stay after their dates to return are finished or have expired. They are usually not the group of immigrants who people see working in fields but in hospitality, private sector jobs, some in public temporary jobs, others in porn industry. You probably know many of the undocumented workers who are staying here to become legal residents and ultimately, citizens!! Get over it because this has been the way to enter for some that can afford to come in by planes and not by crossing borders hidden every kind of means of transportation known to man! How about the taxes that will now be paid by those in this new "status"? You people keep talking about those getting food stamps, welfare, etc. However, this just isn't the case. These people take the jobs that Americans are too lazy to do. This was proven by what's been happening in the south on farms when the Latino population left. This, however, is about the kids who were raised here and know nothing else. They are some driven kids who simply want to go to college and contribute. Yes, they used resources to get an education in the US...so why not allow them to use that education to pay taxes, etc? This would actually be a benefit. The people that everyone seems to be complaining about wouldn't even be eligible to stay... this is about the KIDS. Mexico is now a drug fueled war zone. You really want to send these kids who are now Americans for all intents and purposes. They know no other country, and could be productive, tax paying citizens. Sending them into a war zone is shameful. I'll bet most of you advocating this call yourselves Christians. Shameful.

although i strongly disagree with the reporter that interrupted the president, this is a very passionate topic for people who are unemployed that are willing to work---not the lazy one's that just want to draw the benefits. politics during election year are the worst. for one of today's guest to refer to him as a "nobody" this is why things don't get accomplished.... that nobody has an opinion and a vote. our economy is not getting better. romney isn't the answer either. the black white issue was also brought up. how rediculous. it wouldn't matter the gender or race if the president were doing this he would be berated in the public's view. typical response for the world we live in. treat all people as a live human being and the place we call america would be a wonderful place to live. dirty politicians cover the lands and have the political agenda that reflects how much money gets put into their pockets. it's like local politicians that seem to remain in office when they're caught doing things that are illegal. how on earth people seem to support these idiots is beyond me. too many people in high places calling shots that effect the tax payers in harsh ways that allow these people to remain in power. god help us! maybe the mayan calendar is true and the world will come to an end. if so, we did it to ourselves!

Just look at the presi-boob's track record, his doj issued a statement several years ago that they would not pursue people growing medical marijuana as long as they conformed to the laws of their state, a year or so later the feds showed up and started kicking in doors, seizing assets, and charging people with federal crimes. He is a two-faced liar who is beholden to his wealthy campaign donors like most politicians of either political bent.

If we don't punt this liar and sack of dog dung out in this election, it'll be the saddest time in recent history for this country.

Didn't the President also promise that the DEA wouldn't bother people who have legal prescriptions for medical marijuana? How's that working out in California? I thought he went after the land owners and threatened too steal their lands if they had dispensaries (Even the ones who legally paid taxes, both state and federal).

Mr. Obama's Order does nothing new for military members who are already special category under the Immigration and Naturalization Act:

Naturalization through One Year of Qualifying Service During “Peacetime”

Generally, a person who has served honorably in the U.S. armed forces at any time may be eligible to apply for naturalization under section 328 of the INA. The military community sometimes refers to this as “peacetime naturalization.”

In general, an applicant for naturalization under Section 328 of the INA must:

        Be age 18 or older

Have served honorably in the U.S. armed forces for at least 1 year and, if separated from the U.S.
armed forces, have been separated honorably

Be a permanent resident at the time of examination on the naturalization application

Be able to read, write, and speak basic English

Have a knowledge of U.S. history and government (civics)

Have been a person of good moral character during all relevant periods under the law

Have an attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution and be well disposed to the good order and
happiness of the U.S. during all relevant periods under the law

Have continuously resided in the United States for at least five years and have been physically present in the United States for at least 30 months out of the 5 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application, UNLESS the applicant has filed an application while still in the service or within 6 months of separation. In the latter case, the applicant is not required to meet these residence and physical presence requirements.

Naturalization through Qualifying Service during Periods of Hostilities

Generally, members of the U.S. armed forces who serve honorably for any period of time (even 1 day) during specifically designated periods of hostilities (see below) are eligible for naturalization under section 329 of the INA through such military service.

In general, an applicant for naturalization under INA 329 must:

Have served honorably in active-duty status, or as a member of the Selected Reserve of the Ready
Reserve, for any amount of time during a designated period of hostilities and, if separated from the U.S.
armed forces, have been separated honorably

Have been lawfully admitted as a permanent resident at any time after enlistment or induction, OR have been physically present in the United States or certain territories at the time of enlistment or induction (regardless of whether the applicant was admitted as a permanent resident)

There is no minimum age requirement for an applicant under this section.

Just on a side note, for those that think that Republicans are going to deport illegals, think again. Illegals are cheap for business, and we know who's pocket most business leaders are stuffing their money into.

Give anyone that was brought here before they turned 18 a green card, finger print them and then take away the green cards from the felons, commited after the age of 18, and kick them back to the hole they came from. Win-Win.

The memos were meant to get the message out that a vote for Romney — who trails Obama by a significant margin among Latino voters — would be a vote to rescind Friday's order.

But I thought illegal immigrants were not allowed to vote. Hm, oh so that's why the Obama administration is so vehemently against all of the states trying to pass voter reform legislation. If Obama loses all of those illegal votes he'll lose the election. Clears that up, transparency my azz!

It's just like Gore vs. Bush, they are the same Obama vs. Romney, picked and chosen just for you, so no matter who wins the election, those behind the scenes will still get their agendas pushed through. Have a good cry when you truly understand that real democracy is dead, and has been for years.

As much as we taxpayer's need the support of the elected officials to support us, i say, with the latest blunder of the obama administration, instead of taking care of the AMERICAN PEOPLE, the VOTER'S, who put him in office and paying for it ever since, he is now turning his focus to legalizing immigration. Yes, I know this is at the taxpayer's expense. We are OVERBURDENED because of him. We need to vote this failure out of office in November. He's killing US.

Don't misunderstand, i do like the fact that other peoples of the world want to come to America and hopefully a better life, but we have to draw the line somewhere, somehow and sometime! America is hurting in more ways than one, no one is interested in helping America out. other countries want to bleed her, buy her out, and see her sink. no one is interested in America except for what they can get from her, and do to her.

Nah. There is enough grass roots Constitutional conservatism left in America so that America would not go down without a fight. And since most left-wing Liberals hate guns and anything war related, they would likely turn tail and run if confronted by an armed group of conservatives, especially once the liberal media and Judicial system collapses and can't "support" them any longer.

In 2008 over 75% of the military voted conservative. I've had family serve and have friends that still serve. The few Democrats that I know who serve in the military are of a conservative oriented mindset and values, but their family have been Democrats for generations. Otherwise, our military is mostly staffed by members of conservative families. Conservatives support the troops more than Liberals do because we actually have more literal "skin" in the game than Liberals. Whether you like it or not, Liberals are free and safe today because of the majority of Conservatives that serve in the Military protect them.

I really am not as concerned about what the effect of this is as much as I am concerned that this essentially changes current laws without going through the system like it should be done. Is this setting precedent that the president is allowed to bypass congress by making "policy" that differs from what the law states?

Just color me a little concerned on that front.

If that's all you have to worry about, I'd say you're in pretty good shape Mr./Mrs. Illegal and you should be thankful for all you HAVE been blessed with for so long, and could have kept had you only went about things the proper way.

It opens a door for other administrations to create policies bypassing Congress to obtain votes. I thought the campaign money issues were bad...this is amazing. Now, if big bad Romney wins...they're worried about being forced to abide by this nations laws?

If other parents commit crimes, should we allow the children to reap the benefits? Now that the kids get a free pass, the parents will request one because we can't separate them from their children!

I would imagine a tax return would serve as proof, either that a minor child was claimed as a dependant for 5 years on a tax return filed by their illegal alien parents, or that a person over 18 was employed and has filed tax returns for 5 consecutive years, or a combination of both.

I am curious if those illegal aliens that apply under this program and cannot produce a tax return, but acknowledge working, will not be considered for this program because knowingly failing to file a tax return is considered a crime?

Being here illegally is little more than a minor traffic ticket, tax evasion is a federal felony. Congress and IRS take it so seriously that Section 6103 generally prohibits the release of tax information by an IRS

Either way I was more than willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt on many subject matters, BUT the more he opens up his mouth as of late the more I'm leaning towards Mitt Romney and I don't even know what he totally stands for. But what I do know is that the Republicans gave Bush Jr a blank check to rape this country financially until he left us with a HUGE MESS that we are still devestated from and is now getting tagged as Obama's mess when it really was the latter. But the more Obama keeps going with his controversial stands the more I'm going to have to forget what the Republicans did and start leaning towards their versions of what the world of America should be

A Washington Post reporter also considered the impact the rule would have on struggling Americans (stoy here).

Sadly, most of the rest of the mainstream media has refused to ask the question that the President doesn't want to answer.

I am confident that numbers are more in the millions than 800k. Again Obama has no clue other than to sway the vote this fall. He might gain a more popular vote with Mexicans but he lost the general hardworking American even if Democrat. The same way these things were verified for the 1986 Amnesty (by Ronald Reagan): school documents, photos, utility bills, rent statements, school transcripts, report cards, church records, etc.

Spanish people are Native to this continient, they have more of a right to be here than the Germans the Jews, Asians, Muslums!!! They all got here by boat or plane. This is bull,

Be careful what you wish for larryfromkirkland. The table is about to turn 180 degrees. What works in YOUR favor today, may work in MY favor tomorrow. An unlimited executive branch should put fear and worry into EVERY American, regardless of party affiliation and regardless of who started the process. You really need to think long and hard about what you just said and we'll give you a chance to admit perhaps you we're VERY wrong in your previous statement and we'll move on. I pitty you if what amounts to essentially a oligarchy is the type of government you think you want. That's very sad for the rest of us to hear and have to deal with your foolishness.

The states are already streched thin, does obama care? NO, and if he passes his pos stimulis bill, more money goes from the already piss poor taxpayers. obama is not doing anything but pandering for more votes, hopefully the already overtaxed payers will put a halt to his grand scheme!

I don't hold these young people responsible for their parents illegal actions. In what other instance do we punish children for the crimes of their parents? They've lived here most, if not all, of their lives and I personally don't see sending them back to a country that they've never called home. If they meet the other qualifying conditions (education, lawfulness, residency) then they should not be deported and should be allowed to apply for work permits.

Also it's out right fraud for state and federal funds. Heaven for bid we gave these kids state and federal funds for college under false pretenses. That too is against the law. Fine, but if they don't complete school or complete the military with an honorable discourage, then deport them. Since the requirements make these kids old enough to fend for themselves, deport the parents who broke the law and created the situation.

Such liberal nonsense. Now it's a punishment to ask someone to go live in the country that they're a citizen of if they weren't brought here legally. The beneficiaries of this crooked action are all citizens of one or more other countries, just not the U.S.

Would you feel the same way if an American family brought their child to Mexico (or wherever) and that government told the child to go back to the U.S when grown? [Oh, the punshment]

Pass a background check? Really? Military? Really? The bigger question is how in the devil do you allow an illegal to join the military or even get into college with out fraud. Falsifying state or even federal aid packages is against the LAW to get college financing. I ought to know, every form I filled out for my kids has the disclaimer about fraud or the intent to defraud for state or federal aid for college. So apparently that isn't part of the CRIMINAL or won't be part of the Criminal criteria. Are you here Illegally is another question on state and federal aid for colleges. WHAT the devil did they answer for that question? UM no speaak englishe, um maybe, or IDK.

If a parent robs a store and goes to jail the child suffers. Parent loses their job, children suffer. According to Obama the only children in America who won't have to suffer for the actions of their parents are the ones who don't belong here in the first place. If this guy was born in America why do Americans always come last and after foreigners who break the law? At the end of the day Obama is the Anti-American hater who agreed with Jeremiah Wright so his actions are no surprise. He didn't grow up in America and is no more American than the other foreigners who wants here. The surprising thing is how many Americans support this guy because they're afraid name callers will call them racist.

The president and the AG have the right and ability to decide which laws to enforce on a federal level and which to not waste time, effort, and money on. OK now if you do not agree to selective enforcement such as this then are you willing to increase the taxes enough to pay for the extra police, courts, jails, and other expenses involved to strictly enforce every federal, state, and local law on the books in this country. Buy the way I can all but guarantee each of you have broken some law or regulation within the last month.

School records, shot records, birth certificates (they have those you know?). People act as ifdeportation has been outlawed it is not. I'm a naturalized citizen (army brat/vet) myself and I'm not above being deported back to Costa Rica if I committed a crime no immigrant legal or otherwise is. While this appears to be a good idea to some I'm more concerned about the young people that will end up fending for themselves unsupervised, but then again it's a lot like probation you screw up and you go back home with your family. This will keep employers of illegals honest. It should also only cover illegal immigrants that cover this current time-line; 800k plus people is not even a small fraction of the amount of illegal immigrants here, heck that's not even the amount of gang members here.

Any illegal who is given a "legal status" can apply to bring his entire family here under current chain migration laws. That includes giving the very law-breaking parents a free pass visa to stay.
                          That equals amnesty.

The first American soldier to die in the Iraq war was a border crosser from Mexico. Stop demonizing these people that only want to be a part and contribute to this great nation.

Tell that to my uncle, whose Social Security number was stolen by one of these people "that only want to be a part and contribute to this great nation." Now Jose is behind bars where he belongs, and churches are taking up collections to support Jose's family while they fight tooth and nail to free Jose. What about my uncle? His name doesn't even enter the equation as he struggles to repair the damage to his finances that Jose inflicted by "contributing to this great nation." Illegals are not our friends; they are destroying American lives by trying, unethically, to improve their own, and that, my friend, is wrong!

I don't agree that people are demonizing the illegals. I see very few post from anyone who is critical of their desire to be here, their desire to be a citizen, or their work ethic. What I and many others condemn is how they got here. This country has always welcomed immigrants as long as they are legal. I agree that just because they are illegal does not make them potential bad citizens or that coming here legally will guarantee good citizens. But that is not the point at least with me and never will be.

I work for an accountant in a highly hispanic area and let me tell you most of their "employees" are paid cash so they don't have to pay payroll taxes and the "employee" dosen't have to claim it. There are very few who want to contribute to America. They hide their monies, they get free schooling for their kids, free state health care and send most of their money back to mexico to support their "mother" and use her as a deduction on their return.

Yes and in order to get in the military you have to have a VISA!!!.. and yea, I know. I'm a 42A at Fort Hood. If I had to do it legally to EARN my citizenship and LEGAL RIGHT to stay here, why do they get a free ride when they are ILLEGAL! All it does is create a BIGGER vaccum of debt for my LEGAL family to pay for scholarships that they'll get automatically in Obama's socilaist-welfare-attempting-to-gain-votes policies, rip me of my social security and taxes to pay for their medical bills.. and YES.. cause OBAMACARE only hurts those of us to work out BUTT off to gain these benifits OURSELVES!

We need to hear from more clear-headed young Latinas like you, rather than the race-pandering slavish devotion to "La Raza". I hope your military career is long and uneventful, and that you are able to bring that same sense of clear thinking and Pride in America to future generations of little Latina Soldiers (who will, undoubtedly be born as American citizens).

Quietbear, the young man (Marine Lance Cpl Jose Gutierreez) at the age of 14 came to this country illegally after the death of both of his parents from Guatemala. The Guatemalan consul general in LA, Cal stated that it was against US policy to return minors to Guatemala if both parents were deceased and thus he became a ward of the Los Angeles Juvenile Court. At the age of 18 he obtained legal residency status thus allowing him to enlist in the USMC. Approx 1 yr before his death he turned down a chance to go to college and enlisted in order to give back to this country some of what this country gave to him. He was, at the age of 22, the first US soldier to die in Iraq on 3/21/03. This young man is and should remain forever an inspiration to all of what can become of even an illegal immigrant if given a proper chance.

I have a cousin who was brought here when he was 2. He is currently in university, a professor paid his whole tuition in exchange for when my cousin graduates with his degree he will work for a said company for two years. If you were to deport him he would be lost. He doesn't speak a lick of Spanish and has never lived in mexico since he was 2. That's like me asking you to send your child/grown child to a foreign country where the cannot communicate nor survive. People use some common sense. Not every immigrant bullies the system. My aunt, his mother, works as a maid and house keeper for people in our government. She pulls 70 hour work weeks for cash but she pays her mortgage, pays the bills, buys groceries, clothes, pays doctors bills, makes her payments(which helps some American line his pocket and pays wages of other American employees) and the two oldest kids are in college both MENSA and honor roll students and the youngest is on their way. Also for all you people that can't see past the end of your nose I didn't hear you complain when you could pay cash, no benefits, no overtime for 70 hour work weeks for less than minimum wage. Or is the American way no longer who will bid the cheapest so we can keep more money in our pocket? I still shop the capitalist American way. Wal-Mart anyone? All of your ancestors were immigrants just back than it wasn't illegal still racist but not illegal. Colonization by the French, English, Spanish how we all seem to forget our past wasn't so rose colored. just my two cheap cents.

Well monkey, my great grandparents came here thru Ellis Island on a ship, registered correctly and became American citizens the LEGAL way. The didn't jump the Rio Grande. The problem "we the people" in America have isn't with freedom, it isn't with getting ahead, hard work, or any other reason. Do it legal, upfront, and with honor and dignity and I will welcome you with open arms. Just f*&*^in don't back door me though a president looking for votes in November.

Your analogy doesn't work because me and my children were born in the USA. My parents were born in the USA. Their parents were born in the USA. Their parents were even born in the USA. My ancestors came here legally within the immigration system established at the time. Just like the MILLIONS of people that came here legally over the years.

Also, how, exactly, is being a legal immigrant racist? Do you pull the Racist card in every post?

and no where in the statement do you say she pays taxes. She gets paid cash which means she gets paid under the table because she is here illegally. I think that's the biggest argument. She's lucky to have a job period.

As a gringo from the states living here for the last twenty years I can flat out state that Mexicans must be among the hardest workers on the face of the earth. I know many men and women as well that work three jobs. Teen males also would put many teens from the United States to shame with their diligence and hard work and attention to duty.

Many have no education here but their common sense and intuition and ability to solve problems would overflow buckets.

They come up with more ways to earn a few pesos than I could dream up in a week.

                          AND THEY DO IT.

Monkey: There are many people here in the US that came as children and understandably most politicians would NOT be willing to deport someone like your cousin. The question I have is why hasn't he applied for citizenship? If someone has been here that long, wouldn't they feel some loyalty to their adopted country and want to be legal. Is something holding him back or is our government NOT letting him apply or what?

Dick Dumas: Nobody questions their ability to work hard unlike some lazy Americans who won't even work. The real issue is that many more people have come here through the legal process and become citizens and contribute to society. If an illegal is here, do they pay their "fair share" or do they just live off our generosity and if they came as children and have adopted this country as their own why don't they become citizens? I wonder how President Obama is going to handle it when some says they came when they turned 17 and have been here for 20 years now. Also what if some says I'm only 31 years old how come my 30 year old brother gets to stay and I don't.

If they are so hard working and industrious, why are they incapable of earning a living in their own country? As a former construction worker, I've worked side-by-side with Mexicans on dozens of jobs, and I'm not disputing their work ethic, just their motivation. Many Latino activists have said they will not rest until the entire western third of the United States is given back to Mexico. Their mythical land of "Aztlan" is just as big a dream for them as is sharia law for the thousands of Muslims living in the Detroit area.

Meanwhile, any Caucasian showing pride in their ancestry is branded as a racist.

America is supposed to be about assimilation, not multi-culturalism. E Pluribus Unum. From many, one. I don't care if your ancestors were Mexican, Brazilian, Ethiopian, Dutch, Irish, Aborigine, Filipino or from India, the Great American Melting Pot is what's important. Being an American is more important than ANY ethnic background, no matter how much pride you may have in your former culture. If you can't get your head wrapped aroung that one fundamental fact, you have no business being here.

I've worked with plenty of illegals, not just from Mexico, who were experts in milking the system to their advantage. It's the same mentality that I found abundant in Mexico once I moved there, where cheating, cutting in line or using "palancas" (i.e. friends or connections to whom you pay money or do favors to leap over others) is the way of life.

Our immigration system is better than Mexico's as is, and we already give their immigrants way more rights than legal immigrants get in Mexico. Incentivizing the ones that disrespect our laws from the get-go caters to the wrong Mexicans.

Three people who posted in reply to my post all have legit questions. Space here by no means allows for such lengthly discourse so let me address just a couple items.

There are THOUSANDS of lazy SOB's in the US who have been on the system for GENERATIONS and contribute NOTHING to the system. Either work or money and you know who they are.

Can anyone who lives in Mexico with a minimum wage of APPROX eight dollars PER DAY make a living here. I think not.

"FRIENDS" in high places is not how it works here for most -what does work for ALL is a corrupt system that has been in place for almost 400 years called mordida. NO ONE can make a business move of ANY KIND right down to the smallest street food stand without paying a huge bundle of hard earned money to the people in power that is NEVER legally recorded to end up with permission to do that business.

Anyone in official positions here are so corrupt they would number in the thousands in prisons if they were in the US. That money they literally steal ends up in their pockets and never is documented . But the ordinary folk must pay this all the time or they get ZILCH for what they want.

Thats why I had to laugh when so many people were upset when it was disclosed that WalMart paid millions to officials in Mexsico City to do business in MX. Again . People from the US simply don't realize that's the way of EVERYDAY life here. If someone really wanted to investigate the facts I would bet every last penny I own that EVERY single American company doing business here has also paid millions for that right. It's simply the way it's done here.

Believe me If I were born here and a Mexican as such I would also be trying to crawl under the fence every day to get to the "promised land". I don't begrudge them one second for doing or trying or getting there.

Generally people from the US havn't a clue what the average Mexican has to go through to just exist here let alone make any kind of living.

And like so many others here admitted, they are outstanding workers and not lazy and not looking for anything free without earning it. If some are on the system you can bet your bottom dollar they have absolutely no choice. Not like some others we know.

Any illegal who is given a "legal status" can apply to bring his entire family here under current chain migration laws. That includes giving the very law-breaking parents a free pass visa to stay.
                            That equals amnesty.

Every job, every seat in a classroom, and every apartment occupied by an illegal alien is one that an American must do without, and every stolen Social Security number is another American nightmare. When you find yourself on the receiving end of this, remember that they are only "children." You must make personal sacrifices for their sake. It's "the right thing to do!"

(meth drug abuser for those who need to know) She robbed me, she ruined my credit, I'm still fighting stuff all these years later why can't I send her to Mexico as punishment. She would be an asset to the Cartels. People picking the fruit and veggies you eat aren't your enemy it's the ones who have the rights and can do whatever because the are citizens. Also if the seat your child lost in college was to an immigrant child well that tells me two things either your family isn't that of the elite blue blood class and couldn't pay their way in, or that that immigrant took his studies more seriously than the American child because he understands that in the U.S.A. money talks all else walks and to do this you need an education.

It galls me to see my country fall apart during my lifetime with what has been done by congress and our leaders over the past many years. LOL your rant is delusional at best..have you considered the taxes that these potential 800k kids could contribute? nope, you are just stuck in this tunnel vision mentality that allowing these kids to stay in the only place they call home is the wrong thing to do. Then theres sales tax, the amount that are certain to join the military in hopes of gaining citizenship, etc...try looking outside the small box you currrently are for a change.

Hey Mr Shandril...who exactly are "they"??? I also have experienced ss#theft but "they" didn't do it. I like monkeycakz' plan. Let's ship OUR criminals off to Mexico!!! Can you just imagine what it must be like to go to bed every night wondering if the door will be busted down and you will find yourself in a VERY foreign place (in this case Mexico) You know it seems like not much has changed, in the USA when it comes to hate and prejudging ANYONE who is different from us ie;lblack people, gay people , women, anyone with a vowel on the end of their name (oh, that's right we idolize italian mobsters...Iwas married to an Italian, I have a vowel on the end of my name, I can say that). It's real embarrassing to know that this is what we portray and how we treat each other. My great-grandfather came here from Germany, legally, grant you, but almost anyone could immigrate legally and swiftly back then. Trust me he was no saint. I am a registered Republican who WILL vote for the president. I do not like the BIG government that Liberals seem to produce but I can't support the hate I hear, spewing from the mouths of so many conservatives (which has become a synonym for mean and nasty, in many areas. )Both parties have me crazy...I do resent paying their tabs while they make sure NOTHING ever gets done, BIG TIME.

I haven't heard any hate. It called following the law. Laws are cut and dry.

Susan: You are allowing them to "play" on your emotions. Please look at the big picture, and realize that immigration laws are enforced better EVERYWHERE but here...for good reason. No country can sustain taking in everyone. The WORLD is NEEDY. AMERICANS are NEEDY now. Why don't you feel sorry for US?

Joe is right...it is cut and dry...why should JUST America become the world's dumping ground?

The fact that they are Illegal Immigrants should say it all. Maybe if the laws were more discouraging and we had fewer immigrants the Government would give my child all the subsidies and scholarships to go to college. As it currently stands, my child who was born in this country to white parents has to go to Community College and will be attending for a while. A child born in Dominican Republic and moved here illegally at 13 has graduated from college at 20. I would be willing to bet Mom and Dad paid next to nothing for that education....

I think the dumbasses all work for Home Land Security initiated by the shrub president that costs an ungodly amount of tax dollars and have taken away many humane freedoms our country started with. If the future is good, it will take courage and a willingness to work together no matter what your personal prejudices for a just society. The consequence of the wedge put into place by Home Land Security is another civil war in our country. Unfortunately the ones with guns are the conservatives and tea-freaks. If not all out war, there will be more people going off the deep end shooting and killing to let out their frustrations. What do I want to see in the future? Good relationships with our world leaders including Mexico. Legalization of marijuana and or other recreational drugs. Universal health care not dependent on greedy insurance companies. Paying teachers as much as doctors or lawyers. Encouraging excellence in schools, work, and in communities. Stronger regulations of guns.

David I don't care for your language but I feel the same way exactly....this president is saying whatever he can to get votes and is running scared. This is just another ploy to get elected and I don't care for the way he ignores the constitution and existing laws. He is just an "actor" president and looks good and has a good speech writer and teleprompter....nothing else. Vote based on what he does and NOT what he says because his actions have ruined America.

Okay, Mr. President Obama signed an Executive Order {yet another :( } that will expire in two years unless it is followed up by legislation. It helps some people and scares a lot more.

After reading the order, it looks like a good test to see over a short time what happens. Mr. President Obama could have signed it at a better time, but I do not believe he could not be in office for times to be better. If the unemployment had been much better and we needed the people to fill jobs, it would be different. Right now, we are having trouble taking care of our own, let alone others.

I believe Mr. President Obama is now realizing that he will not get the second 4 year term of office, and he is going to make it as difficult as possible for his predecessor and punish the country for this. There will be some good people that are here, of course, but there may be a marked increase of crime and drugs due to the lack of jobs. While I do not like Mr. President Obama's ideals, opinions and especially his tactics; I do have to respect the Office of the Presidency.

I will not miss Mr. Obama when he is retired from office. I just wish we did not have to pay for secret service for him and his family for the rest of his life, or pay his pensions. Ex-president Mr. Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama will definitely go into history as one of the least accomplished presidents.
