Around 30 people were hurt, some seriously, when a woman drove her car into a street party in Lima, Ohio, Friday night.
“It was unreal. There were bodies, and shoes and jewelry,” The Lima News reported Amee Truesdale as saying. “They took many, many people to the hospital, and two or three of them looked seriously hurt ... I saw men pick up that car and move out a gentleman that was pinned underneath.”
The driver, who reportedly had a dog with her, was parked near the town's main square when she accelerated rapidly, a police spokesman told NBC News.
The driver's name will be released pending the investigation, the spokesman added.
"This is definitely an accident," Sgt. Jack Jarlock was quoted by Reuters as saying. "There may have been some confusion on her part. She may have gotten in a panic of some sort."

The car plowed through tables and finally stopped when it hit a large sculpture, The Lima News reported.
The crowd was attending an event with music put on by ArtSpace Lima.
No fatalities were reported, but rescue workers said there were numerous head, neck and leg injuries, The Lima News reported.
St. Rita's Medical Center received some 30 people Friday night, a spokeswoman told NBC News. Four of them were admitted and, of those, two are in critical but stable condition. The two others are stable.

If it was a senior citizen, this just shows again that we need to start retesting every driver every 5 years once they hit 50 years old to make sure they have the reaction times and know the laws. I'd be for testing everyone every 5 years as well because they are certainly plenty of younger idiots. Plus, it will provide some income to the states.
Driving is a privilege, not a right.

OK, yes, all the moronic comments about "the old woman." Get it out of your systems. Now I have a question: was there any such thing as a barricade anywhere to stop or at least impede a vehicle, including this one? This is, after all, a story emanating from smack in the middle of typical dumb-country America where the lazybones approach to life means that very little is ever done thoroughly/completely or with any planning...you know, for possibilities such as this...by 'authorities' who know how to hand out speeding tickets or hit people with stupid municipal fines but don't have a clue how to really manage anything. They do so safe in the knowledge that imbeciles by the millions will mindlessly (as we see on this board) focus on "the evil driver" instead of wondering if someone somewhere could have lifted a finger to head off trouble.

Let me ask you this Rex. Are you from Lima? Have you ever been to any of these Rally in the Square events? Do you live anywhere near Allen County or the West-Central Ohio area? I'm guessing no. So stop making judgements about people you never met, lived with or interacted with. This event has happened every summer since 1989. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened. Yes, there are barriers that are set up. Yes, roads are blocked off. And yes, traffic was diverted to other roads. People have to park their cars a couple of blocks away from this event and walk there. This was something that no one could have known would happen.
See, I don't know if I can trust or believe anything you say since you don't seem to have any idea of the factors that went on here. You don't know who the driver was, what their mental, emotional and physical state was. You know nothing about the event, its coordinators, the people or the city of Lima aside from what you most likely skimmed over in this article. You're use of the terms "dumb-country America" and "lazybones approach to life" leads me to believe that you are arrogant and full of yourself. You see, with your judgement of Lima, you have also judged a lot of cities and town across America. Maybe if you took the time to learn more about your country, you wouldn't be so quick to judge.

Cars don't kill people, they are objects and can not do anything with out a person driving them. Guns are also objects and do not hurt people, it is the person behind it. Yet Obama wants to ban guns through the U.N. treaty, Maybe he should add cars to the list too. Make people pay for their crimes and forget trying to get rid of the tools we use in our daily lives. What we need to know here is what Obama had to do with this clearly racist act. Don't try to hide behind claims of media control. We know who you are and we have the Stand Your Ground laws to fall back on to protect this poor woman who clearly felt threatened by all the party stuff going on. Jessie Jackson and George Zimmerman have not uttered a single word yet - proof that they are trying to drum up race riots again.
BTW, if every one of those party fools had been packing, this hateful woman would not have had the chance to run down more than a couple of the children.

Dafuq did I just read? This was a community music event that has been going on every weekend in the summers for over 20 years. This has nothing to do with racism and has never been motivated by any political party. It was a community gathering. If you're using a tragedy to post your political ramblings, then you are a sick individual.

too little info here to make a judgement call on this one. we have a jewell food store in town and about 20 years ago the girlscouts were selling cookies.old bag in a chevy nova in her late 80's thought the accelerator was the brake and crushed the poor girl to her death against the main entrance wall.whos knows what happened. texting,seizure,alcohol , pills , car malfunction,age, dementia etc?
The woman apparently had a seizure and put the car in drive instead of reverse. That is what I have heard. However, won't really know anything until they release more details. No barricades were up, just yellow caution tape around the square. Bet that will be changed after this accident. Luckily, no one died. Please continue to pray for everyone involved.
Lighten up! The dog was driving because the woman was drunk...the dog had a Learner's Permit.

She's an intern. She's new and is usually relegated to the human-interest stories. This is really her first huge news to report on. Plus, earlier in the news cast, the main anchor had already reported everything that was available. This is 10 minutes after the initial report, so there's not much to go on.
Accident my fat pink butt. Unless she had a seizure and didn't have a history of uncontrolled seizures, or unless there was some other instantaneous medical occurrence I cannot imagine how one would not be able to, at the onset of some such episode, not have the second it would take to at least throw the car in park, even if you still had your foot jammed on the accelerator..... Very odd to me.
With all those people driving around with lap dogs it was just a matter of time before Fifi got tangled up in the foot pedals. Now we need effective legislation like with cell phones and texting, Fifi's Law if you will.
Another side benefit could be an insurance discount for cat owners.
Perhaps people driving with dogs need to have them in Doggie Restraints in the back seat. Another opportunity for American ingenuity!!!
And yes. it's sad that all those people were injured, but at least the dog's OK and being Americans we really do care more about Fifi than the people who got hit.

So does a phone,radio,kids,a big mac,make-up,newspaper,the driver next to ya flippin you off,coffee, your spouse telling you how to drive..........and everything else. It would be easier to ban cars rather than all the distractions.

Not so funny, guys! We have people seriously hurt who might be incapacitated for life. I would charge her with something that hopefully puts her in the can for a few years. How about reckless driving. I would take away her license for about five years after that.
