Tough task, wow, what a understatement; the defense must prove to the jury that for over 20 years, he was really controlled by a alternate personality that compelled him to act out his fantasy's; all the defense wants to do now , is end this massacre as soon as possible; i expect them to offer a plea, if the State would accept it, which i doubt they will.(the only reason to accept a plea would be to end the endless appeals that will follow, and save money).

Did you read the analysis piece? The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's case is so strong that any deal that they could have realistically offered would be for at least as long as any realistic remaining lifespan, so there was really no deal to make, no "bargain" for pleading out, and how likely is it that someone this narcissistic could bring himself to admit guilt and "elocute" anyway?

I also think Penn State is a great college but you have to ask why administrators there let this POS loose for so long when so many knew. Your last name is misspelled. It should start with a "T". The attorney is participating in the justice system. Everybody is supposed to have a defense attorney that does his very best to defend the accused even if the attorney thinks he is guilty. When we start sending people to prison for what they are accused of and not for what they are convicted of I hope you will be the first one unjustly accused and I hope they put you in Sandusky's cell. He is a pretty big guy and in pretty fair shape. I'll bet he will need comfort and you will give it to him. Your new name will be Mary.

Defense attorneys are slimy liars, they will throw any lie out there and not have to produce an ounce of proof. They will blame a victim when they are standing beside the most evil person knowing full well their client is guilty. I've seen lawyers rubbing the back and caressing the arms of people who have raped and murdered and act like their client is just misunderstood. They will try to get the most perverted scum to walk the street making excuses like his mama didn't hug him enough, daddy left, he was bullied, ADHD, hit his head or any other nonsense they can make up. 123...What does a pedophile look like, exactly? A father, brother, friend, teacher, coach--they look like any average Joe citizen. To imply that his attorney is a pedophile without any evidence to support that contention, is not only without merit, it is just wrong--and slanderous. All those hoping that Sandusky will get raped repeatedly in prison or hope for it are very likely wrong also. The ones that get raped are the inmates that least deserve it--generally they are of slight build, first time offenders, not affiliated with any gangs, are in for non violent offenses and are celled with long timers. Rape is wrong no matter who it happens to. I'm not defending Sandusky--he is a narcissistic sociopath IMHO. Still, his punishment should be to lose his freedom for the rest of his life--never allowed to abuse another child. He is a coward and will likely PC up as soon as he hits the door. His lawyer is legally bound to offer a vigorous defense--no matter if it is Amendola or a court appointed attorney. I believe that they have made some questionable decisions that have made a successful outcome on his part very unlikely. They are riding a fine line between offering a vigorous defense and having the case overturned for "ineffective counsel." Would you p!ss off a jury by bringing up a histrionic defense when it opens the prosecution up to being allowed to have their experts examine him and testify that he is a narcissistic sociopath with no conscience? They have made some calls that that make me believe these defense attorneys have children and don't want their client back on the streets either. But, their hands are tied in some way--they have to present, at least, a very good appearance of competency in order to avoid that "ineffective counsel" ruling so often seen in appellate courts. Wait and see what happens before judging too harshly. Sometimes our justice system does work. Think strategy.

I haven't read anything about the age of consent in her state at the time, so it may or may not have been legal, even if it was consenting. gramgigi; it appears you are not a American citizen; if you were, you would have learned in grammar school civics; that the Constitution of the United States Article 6, states that a person charged with a crime, felony, must have legal counsel, that legal counsel must defend that person with the best defense he /she has the ability to raise; failure to do so will result in a reversal of any guilty verdict; that is the American way, in your country it is probably different; that is why we have been the envy of the world for all these years.

I would assume that the Catholic Church is watching this case closely, but since the Church seems so out of touch on most social issues, I'm not that confident they are. Everyone has a right to present a defense, and everyone deserves the presumption of innocence in court, for sometimes criminal defense attorneys are defending totally innocent people, and sometimes they are defending people who are in fact criminals but not guilty of the offense with which they are charged. Even with all of these safeguards, we both know that sometimes innocent people are nonetheless incarcerated, even executed.

However, I'd pretty much bet my life that Jerry Sandusky is not truly innocent; when your best defense is "I'm a histrionic personality and because of that I like to hug and soap up little boys in showers," you're not really innocent.

I have listened to many men that have been raped in prison and let me tell you--they did not deserve it and it wasn't part of the deal. They were willing to do their time over the drugs they had stashed. Be careful what you wish for because it doesn't usually happen to the right person. They have child killers, murderers, pedophiles, serial killers in prisons. They also have frauds, MJ distributors, thieves etc. sharing the same space because of budget cuts. jk...You have an excellent point!! They have been ingrained with the feeling that they "owe" Sandusky for all the favors he has done for them and then there is the guilt. Inside, they believe that they are partly responsible for their victimization--which is not true--but they can't shake that feeling. Rape and pederatsty are about the assertion of power. They are about using sex to assert power. This usually is the case with statutory rape where the victim is too young to give real consent. This man was on a serious power trip, and these boys, now young men, were used to gratify his own massive ego. My primary interest in this is about his "charity". I wonder whether he set it up to meet young boys with evil intent, or whether he met so many through it and found out that some would do almost anything to please a grown man who would pay real attention to them, especially one who could help them meet their sports heroes and take them places, and found this to be a temptation that he could not or would not resist. I also wonder about his own childhood and if he was originally a victim as all too often one generation's victims become the perpetrators of the next.

The death sentence for rape and child molestation has been suggested before but clearer heads prevailed. If you are going to sentence someone to death for such crimes it is in the criminals best interest for them to kill the victim so thay can't testify. So instead of a live victim you have a dead victim. He will be put in protective custody and live out his sorry life behind bars.

it would be nice if Cleland would allow the prosecution to bring in "expert testimony" re: the effects of child sex abuse on survivors. that would help clear up most if not all of the supposed "inconsistencies"

I agree, but I wonder if the defense does try to make that argument, if the prosecution would then be able to counter that with an expert to explain why it is common with abuse victims. That may be allowed in rebuttal, though it wasn't on their initial presentation.

I hope all his money goes to his victims and the wife will relive all the times she treasured her country club lifestyle instead of turning in her pervert husband while she loses everything.

Berry....It doesn't mean he is a homosexual...maybe bi, but he, clearly, preferred boys over girls. It is a preference that is about having power over these boys. Generally, peds don't cross preference or race lines, but there are many exceptions.

The last victim that testified said Sandusky never performed oral to him. An expert pointed out that was likely because this young man was a few years older than the others and therefore past puberty, so Sandusky wasn't wanting to be reminded of that. It was an interesting observation and leads to more evidence that he truly did fit the definition of pedophile, with it's pathology.

Not that I'm an expert, but from everything I've read and heard from experts, it clearly seems to be a situation of who they can easiest get access to. It's often in their own family that abuse occurs. In that context, it would be easier to have access to girls than it would for girls in a non-family setting, where being around them that much would gain suspicion much more readily.

If the family situation isn't there, it would seem to be easier for a pedophile to access children in a non-family situation through boys. This could be through sports, mentoring, etc and not bring nearly the amount of suspicion. There isn't any indication that Sandusky has had any relationships or interactions with adult men, so there is no basis to assume he is gay or bi, as that is about adult attraction.

It is interesting how people choose to believe that a pedophile who preys on little boys is a homosexual. All of them seem to feel that having the same genatilia is the indicator. Next time you're around kids...take a look at the physical differences between a 10 yr old boy and a 10 yr old girl. Other than hair length in some cases, you won't find many differences. A young boy isn't muscle bound...but he does have similarities to a female.

It has also been noted that pedophiles who choose boys, do so because they see themselves.

jude...I think that there is not enough evidence to support charges of conspiracy to commit child abuse or to support obstruction of justice. There has to be probable cause and I just don't see where they are going to find it. Do I believe that she knew or suspected? Yup, I do. Do I believe that it can be proven? Nope. I don''t. However, social censure and street justice is a bitch...especially when you have been used to being put on a pedestal for years. She will walk a lonely road with a lot of potholes....

Unfortunately, there are a good number of women out there who really didn't have a clue about their spouses pedophile tendancies or actions. Those women choose to believe that the man they chose to love and marry could not do the things people are saying. Those women have heard every 'reasonable' explanation. They choose to ignore that little voice in the back of their mind telling them that something IS wrong.

The pedophile explains that 'so and so' is having difficulties at school, home and wanted to talk into the wee hours of the morning.
