More Chicago mayhem: 35 hurt, 7 killed in shootings

President Barack Obama's visit to Chicago didn't stop another violent weekend.

At least seven people were killed and 35 were injured since Friday night. The youngest victim was a 16-year-old girl who died after she was shot three times in the chest Saturday evening in the Englewood neighborhood.

Ten people were shot overnight Friday, and in one hour Sunday morning, three people were killed. The latest shooting happened just after midnight Monday when a 19-year-old was shot to death on the city's North Side.

For more, visit NBCChicago.com

The shootings mark the third weekend in a row with gunfire injuries totaling well into the double digits. Last weekend, 46 people were hurt and eight killed across Chicago. The previous weekend, 29 were injured and three were killed in shootings.

"None of it is OK," Supt. Garry McCarthy told NBC Chicago last week. "And I don't want it to seem like we're managing it, but the realistic expectations have to be over the long-term."

This weekend marked the beginning of an overtime incentive program to put more police in neighborhoods where crime is highest. Fewer than 60 officers signed up for the program, though.

President Obama and his family arrived in Chicago Friday evening. They attended the wedding of senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett's daughter, and the president spent Father's Day golfing with friends.

While Obama panders to gays and illegal immigrants, he ignores the plight of black America in which high school kids have no rec centers or prospects for jobs. He visits Chicago not to lead, not to address the dire situation, but to vacation and visit his million dollar house. As a black person, I am sick of him and his failed leadership and will not vote for him again.

Timothy1Mil, my city does not have a rec center for the kids and the kids don't run around killing each other. The black area of Chicago reminds me of an infested cest pool of cockroaches running around with guns and drugs.

When parents step up to the plate and guide their children, love and hug them, take them to church and help with homework you aren't breeding a bunch of welfare mom's with ten kids and each kid by a different dad. It's disgusting!

Teenage and adult jobs have dried up as well but still no shootings. Maybe you are just looking for someone else to fix your problems? Typical liberal nonsense, blame someone else for your own failings...

The most dangerous war the US has going on right how is not in Afghanistan, it's in Chicago. So far in June over 150 people have been wounded in shootings. Where is the Army when WE need them? Most of the attempted murders and murders were committed by homegrown terrorist (gangbangers. Those vile creatures are the real danger to the US at this point. Gang banging needs to be a FEDERAL crime, not a state problem and be dealt with on the federal level with sentences to be served in a federal supermax without any parole, contact visits, "recreation", weight rooms, etc.

And all Jesse Jackson could do was picket a Gun shop in Dolton,Il that's been there for decades! What a fool. And all the while this violent weekend was going down in the Southside it was crawling with Secret Service and beefed up Police to gaurd the Potus! These killers are to stupid to care! This would have been a prime political agended for this President to focus or even comment on! But nothing was said afterall he doesn't have to lift a finger for the black community, he's already got their vote in his pocket. The ones that are still alive that is! Where Jesse Jackson and Rev Pfleger should have been protesting at was the Mayor's house, not Chuck's Gun Shop! Asking what can we the community and the Police dept do in order to stop this violence! Rev Pfleger would be all ears I'm sure for the Mayor's response,he truly wants an end to the hardship and heartache of his people! But what Jackson and the Reverend do not understand is it's not the "Arrow", it's the "Indian" that's the problem.

@JG, This is the environment that AMERICA created. Ghettos, and slums were not created by Black people, their the ones being oppressed in them. When you have generations stunted by poverty, racism, unemployment, poor housing, poor schools, breakdown of the family, and community, this is what you get. Ghettos, and slums were DESIGNED to do this to certain groups of people. It called GENOCIDE!! Read up on it......

All I got from this article was Chicago is a sewer and Obama is vacationing in it going to weddings and golfing.

Obama is so lame and such a poor president. I voted for him as a independent. His actions over his tenure as President make me ashamed to have voted for him.

I will NOT be voting for his pandering pathetic lack of serious and real leadership of America. I think he is destroying it, but not on purpose, but because he really is DUMB AND STUPID.

DUMB is when you do something, NOT knowing it was going to go wrong, and then it does. STUPID is when you knew it was going to go wrong and you do it it anyway.

Obama is BOTH dumb and stupid effectively making him a seriously crappy president.

Chicago should be proud of the legacy he has left them! (/sarcasm). The black community should be disgusted with Obama also, but most of all their own culture that they BREED in Chicago.

Where is Oprah to save the day????

And then there is Al Sharpton and others protesting the frisking of people on the street as being racially motivated and the small number of weapons found on these people. It never ceases to amaze me the rationality of these people. Has anyone ever thought the high possibility of being frisked is the very reason they aren't finding any weapons. I know if I was in the habit of carrying a gun with me everywhere I went, I would be less inclined to continue this behavior knowing I would probably be frisked. What a web we have weaved.

Shut down the projects, put the peope to work on co-operative farms or some job skills training. This whole welfare experiment is an utter failure. It's nothing more than a voting block for the left. You can't give people free housing and free food and expect a good result. No pride in ownership or accomplishment. They tell you not to feed the wildlife in natiuonal parks because they will become dependant on people for their food, but the government does the same with people in the cities. If they were busy working or learning a trade they wouldn't have the time or energy to get involved in the nonsense.

This is the result of parents failing to supervise and correct their children. It has nothing to do with poverty, drugs, shabby housing or guns. Those who have gang-banging children need to stop blaming the government and go look in the mirror. Get some backbone, confront and punish your child, and KEEP HIM HOME.

The reason for the poverty, unemployment, poor housing, poor schools, etc is because the parents are not involved with making sure their childen go to and finish school. They sit home waiting for the welfare or unemployment checks instead of going to the schools with their children and demanding that the kids do the lessons, learn how to behave in society, and don't have children of their own when they are 13, 14, or 15 years old. Being poor doesn't mean being stupid. A kid with a 7th grade education and 3 kids before the age of 18 is never going to prosper or be successful in life. If people get their education they can get a job which means more jobs in the community, less crime, less poverity, and less fatherless children. But its the people involved who need to fix this one, and it isn't going to happen when they are sitting home watching their big screen tv all day every day.

If this city had this crime and violence problem say 60 or 70 years ago, marshal law would have been declared and there would be armed troops on the streets.

Today, however, political correctness demands that the blame be directed towards the usual suspects. i.e. economic conditions, guns, lack of education, drugs, no place for the little darlings to play, etc., when the real culprit is fatherless and/or parentless children and the gangbangers.

The result is that virtually nothing will be done, and it's not even summer yet.

    Your
comment is exactly the reason this will never get better. These people don’t
need more government, they need less. Take charge of your own life’s and quit
blaming everyone. We don’t owe you anything, you owe yourself. Typical welfare
baby response. There is one thing in common with every single neighborhood that
is failing. No parental support. Quit yelling at the teachers for demanding
more of your kids and yell at your kids for not achieving more. Quit telling your kids they can’t succeed because
the white people are holding them back and tell them to succeed anyways. It has happened before. I hoped having a black president was going to
inspire the black community to want more of their lifes and to reach for the
stars and do better and instead it is just worse now. Everyone just wants “their Obama Money”.

This whole push for longer school days, longer school years sand raising the age before one can drop out has nothing to do with educating the kids. It has everything to do with trying to control the killings that Obama and Rahm know are out of control.
More police won't really help. When violence happens you can not call 911 and instantly get a cop on the scene even if you have a million cops.
If you took a psychology course in college you may have run across the concept of "too many rats in the cage." That's what many of our large cities suffer from.

Culture of violence, overpopulation, illegitimate children growing up without any direction or moral sense. Result: No value placed on another person's life and murders.

We need strict rules about having children in this world. First and second rules: You must be married and a high school graduate. If not, and you get pregnant, you should be sterilized, along with the person that got you pregnant. This BS of men fathering 30 children they don't support has to stop.

It is the "entitlement" mentality. The government pays them to have children they don't really want and don't take care of. When Katrina forced welfare people into shelters, the people trying to help were taken advantage of as babysitters, and when my friend, a nurse, asked a woman to get her kids under control, the woman slapped her. When they came, they made sure to bring all their illegal drugs, but didn't bother with the actual prescribed medication, because they knew they would get those for free. Career system suckers. Their kids get killed, then they get copyrights to their names (Trayvon Martin) and sue for millions. Pathetic

Yeah, right, Mackman; whites created the ghettos? Ha-ha. Look at what minorities did to Camden, NJ alone. 50 years ago, it was predominantly white and very nice to live in. Now it's a cesspool with mostly minorities selling drugs and shooting each other.

As for your crying over racism, poverty, poor schools and housing, take a look at your own people. You've had decades to clean up your act, take responsibility and study, yet your peeps are even worse off than before. Quit using the past as a crutch. It's 2012, quit whining like it's 1812. Your ghettos have had homes built for them, your people get the working people's tax money and aid, yet you still depend on us and always ruin or waste what's given to you to get started.

Try a little self reliance once in a while. Like I said, quit using the past as a crutch for freebies, hand-outs and an excuse to blame the white man. You have/had plenty of opportunities to get your act together. Take some F'n responsibility.

We need to take away the guns of the working class to stop this madness, if the working class has no guns for these crooks to steel then the problem will go away in about 75 years or so, depending on supply and availability on the black market. yes we can have results of 0.02% or better in just 6 years not counting the escalation, but that's 0.02% you would not otherwise have. except for the expansion of gang crime into the unprotected suburbs but that is a fair trade, spread the crime out a little bit so it wont have so much of a impact on the ghetto people, its a hell of a burden for them to have to deal with all on their own. JJ can assist by closing down all legal gun shops in the outer suburbs so these people in the ghettos can't be resupplied by these white terrorist gun runners these backwards conservative trouble makers. this scum of society praying on the ghetto youth posing as honest business people. yes its white trash causing this not babies having babies and raising 5 babies with 5 different fathers not knowing half of them and all before they reach 19 years old, babies that are borne with addiction or have been brain damaged before being borne, never having a role model never being taught right from wrong, never having a chance to start with, and probably allot of inbreeding as well. its like dueling banjos only in a big population and with drugs added to their moonshine. that must be why people don't canoe the Chicago river.

Do you know why we don,t fix this problem, well in the first place it would not be PC and the liberals would be offended, 2nd There is to much to loose all the legal money, all the social service jobs, there are dozens of organizations making millions off the oppressed people, people like JJ and AS that make millions on this stuff if it got fixed they would be out on the street. how about the probation officers what is the going rate for a five mn visit now days $50 $100 bucks some places even more, there is money to be made in ghettos don't fool yourself, ghettos are big business. you would be better off in prison then a ghetto but these people don't know anything else and don't even have the sense to move away from a bad neighborhood. these people are like a crop as long as they stay in their own field nothing will happen to change things. its a pathetic situation that will never be fixed, it needs to be but it wont. example JJackson protest infront of suburb gunshop a legal business far from the problem, not infront of a gang house used to distribute illegal guns and deals with drugs, prostitution, voilence and criminal activity no Jessie heads to Charlies gunshop a legal business miles away from the inner city nightmare, and gets himself on TV. well Jessie get your ass in the middle of that hot spot and talk bad about white people that will get them going they will burn down half the slum and that will serve you better than protesting Charlies.

I normally don't post, but I'm tired about people blaming the president for events that are out of his control. Who cares that he was visiting Chicago for a wedding and went golfing on Fathers day. Just because he's the president doesn't mean that he can't have a vacation. The shootings and killings would have taken place if he was in town or not. The fact that it was mentioned in the article is irrelevant. And the person who said that Obama lost his respect the first week in office, please share what he did. Seriously, how much can one person do in their first week?

I agree with most. The problem comes from lack of parenting and family values. Which is something that OUR president can't control, but has spoke about how he's feels about the topic on many occasions.

Now it's mostly all black. The Irish worked very hard and made it out of the slums of Chicago. But you really cant say that for many of the blacks that now reside in the slums of Chicago. The ones that do attempt to better themselves or not get involved in gangs are picked on, made fun of for being smart, and sometimes even shot. All out of jealousy. Instead of being an inspiration, their viewed as white. And the ones that do make it out and are successful in life, the rest of the family wants what they have earned.

Some of the poor blacks get out and rent apartments or a house. But the problem is that they dont adapt to their new surroundings, so they and bring the ghetto mentality with them. There for still riddled with a life of violence. They move to the burbs and shooting then start happening in the burbs. They really need to take lessons from the Irish!

Exactly! Welfare was developed as a safety net not a lifestyle choice. Now we have second and third generation recipients who have never held or wanted a job and have more children only as a way to get a bigger check each month. Its always easier to blame the other guy because you made bad choices. If a kid drops out of the 7th grade, has 3 or 4 kids by different men or women, and a criminal record by the age of 20, who's fault is that really? Ghettos were created by those who live in them by opting to live there and encourage the violent behavior either by participating in the insanity or protecting the criminals among you by not telling authorities what you saw or heard. You want a good life? Stay in school and actually work at learning something while you're there. Try to go to college. Income doesn't equal intelligence, a smart person can get a scholarship, student loans, or go to school at night to obtain a degree. Millions of people have done exactly that. Don't have unprotected sex unless you're married and are able to support yourself and your family completely. Don't rob, steal, car jack, sell drugs or anything else that gets you a felony record. Be responsible for your quality of your own, and your children's lives and futures. Its called being a response adult. Passing the buck doesn't improve any situation, it just makes excuses and noise.

How interesting. There are about 50 posts in this thread above mine from the litany of "Conservatives", who repeatedly post on these threads arguing for "smaller government", and "get government out of our lives", and "lower my taxes", and "don't touch my guns" and "it's all the 'Lib's fault" ... and every damned one of you are now screaming for a government solution of one form or another to the problem in Chicago (and many of you are directly or indirectly blaming President Obama for the problem). Is there no limit to the hypocrisy of the Right wing? You folks appear to have been born without a logic gene, and entirely lack the ability to address any issue without first blaming it on someone with whom you happen to disagree at any given moment; despite what you may have said yesterday.

Here's a clue for you all. Problems begin to get addressed when we the people decide to get involved and address them. Stop pointing your fingers and screaming your vitriol, and instead take a long look in the mirror. Offer your own efforts in your communities, instead of just screaming your criticism. Roll up your sleeves and volunteer your labors to make things better (if you want community centers THEN BUILD THEM!!)

Who do you think is supposed to do this job. You normally say it's not the job of government, right?

If you truly do not believe these things are issues for government to solve, then that means YOU and I need to solve them. Stop screaming for "government" only when it suits you or you feel personally threatened, like a bunch of petulant demagogues, but shouting for "less government" when it might force you to crack open your wallet.

And look up the definition of "pathetic" and get a grip on your hypocrisy!

As to stricter gun controls....If somebody is willing to commit a violent crime, injure or kill another human being....then do you think they would care one little bit if the gun was legally obtained or not, stolen or not, registered or not. We are talking lawlessness on all levels...taking the gun rights away from people who have never broken a law nor harmed anyone is liking keeping the whole kindergarten class in because one child misbehaved. All that results in is student's hatred for one another and a lack of respect for the institutions. Besides for many gang bangers, who have already served time, it is illegal for them to possess a firearm...could lose parole or probation under those circumstances, and that doesn't seem to make a bit impact on the violence, now does it.

So leftist anti-gun crowd, How are all those restrictive gun control laws working for ya? What's that you say, there not enough? News flash, Criminals don't follow the law, never have, never will. All you do is make the law abiding citizens unable to defend themselves. Of course you like the sheep and wolves scenario. That way you can "we" will save you, So far "you" are doing a hell of a job!! Most, if not all, of these people died because of the anti-gun delusional morons on the left, who, wrongly, think banning guns will end gun violence. All that will do is create a prohibition style black market gun business, larger than the one that already exists, & more money for our Cartel friends down south who would gladly arm the criminals. Criminals and other low life's don't buy guns through legal means, they steal them or buy them from those who do. Mexico buys guns from all over the world, including thousands from the U.S. government, then the corrupt Mexican government hands them over to family and friends running the cartels. The two were in bed together for decades.

Of course, now the chorus of leftist anti-gun imbeciles will tell me how I'm wrong. Bring it on, federal statistics show a very different picture. CCW states have crime rates that dropped dramatically after passage, but, I know, you can't let trivial things like facts stand in the way of the plan. The plan to enslave all citizens with the yoke of government run and regulated everything. I can hear the shrill cry of the leftist gun control freaks in the distance and getting louder. "More gun control, more gun control, children are dieing in the streets". True enough, but at who's hands? They massacre themselves and anyone else caught in the cross fire. The gun is merely a tool, do you honestly believe these criminal scum bags would hesitate to stab them, club them, brick them, run them over with a stolen Chrysler 300? You people are clueless and as dangerous as the criminals. And yes, I know, the truth is not politically correct nor is it politically expedient for "the Plan". Boo-Freaking-Hoo. Okay, bring on the leftist idiotic rants or more likely collapse the post so the truth doesn't get in the way.

All this carnage is not because of politicans, it's because of stupid, lazy, uncaring parents who don't supervise their own children and allow them to get involved with the local terrorists. Too many these kids are nothing but a bigger check and a hassle to have around so they let even young kids run the streets at all hours, don't care if they go to school or not, don't get them on birth control at puberty, and have no idea how to teach them to be intelligent responsible adults. They only teach them the art of being a "parasite" on society. You can't mandate that someone be a good parent, the adult needs to want their child to succeed. If the parents won't or don't care the kids never will.

Jeff, Obama risked his life going to "Alligator Gardens"? Wow, what balls he has! My Mom worked 2nd shift at Illinois Bell and walked to her car by herself at 11:30 pm. That was at 137th and Indiana Ave during the 60's,70's and 80's including the night Martin Luther King was murdered. Maybe she should have been Obama's body gaurd when he went there. And just what the hell did the President do there? Besides garner votes for his own ambition? What? A bunch of hope and change bull$hit? If anything what was the positive outcome of the President's visit? What has he done since he was elected for the public housing disaster known as Altgeld Gardens? Jeff, yes it is out of the realm of a President to be involved in a domestic issue or a State's problem. But this is an outside of the box President (guy)." If I had a son he would look like Trayvon". To make that statement the President knows in his heart what is going on. When is he gonna start to walk the talk? Where is the Army when WE need them?

Title 18 of the United States Code, Chapter 67, Section 1385, makes it a bit tricky to call in the Army or the Air Force to help with law enforcement issues. For this to happen, it would have to be under the direction of the President of the United States or else through an Act of Congress. In virtually all cases, Congress or the President are NOT going to be doing this because it makes political life absolute hell later on. No matter how bad things may seem to be, short of an actual invasion by a foreign country, Americans absolutely DO NOT like federal troops showing up in their neighborhood to keep an eye on things!

The National Guard can be employed under the direction of the governor of the local state, but under federal authority, they're part of the Army or the Air Force, so it's not real likely to happen in most instances where the affect is only to one state versus several or the nation as a whole. \

The law, commonly known as the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, does not cover the Department of the Navy, including the US Marine Corps. They, on their own, have largely prohibited themselves from doing anything like this. They know how bad that kind of thing could easily become and that it's a genie best left in the bottle.

There's plenty of help from Uncle Sam that Chicago could (and does) seek and receive. The US Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury have very substantial means in place for dealing with all types of organized crime involving anything the Federal government collects taxes on (guns, alcohol, drugs, etc.). The problem is, much of that is for dealing with the 'big boys' of the underworld, the serious players. So much of this street crime happening in Chicago is really base stuff that amounts to scattered individuals thinking they're big time criminals while they engage in petty turf wars among themselves. Unless society in that area can find a way to convince these kids that killing other people isn't something they want to be doing, about all that can be done is to catch them after they've done it and lock them up for life. That doesn't seem to be working out so well for them, it would seem.

You guys have been blinded by your racial prejudices and political affiliation! This isn't a gun control debate either!

This problem in Chicago is a drug problem, it's that simple. Chicago is a major hub in the drug trade and gangs are fighting for control. This is a problem that the elite DON'T want to solve because the drug war is big business for all the organizations involved (Cartels, Law Enforcement, Corrections Industry, Pharmaceutical companies, and the US Justice system).

This violence will continue until something can be done about the black market. Voting Democrat/Republican, Gentrifying communities, or allowing use of firearms ain't going to change @!$%# !!!

Playing golf... ooooooo that is the proof that Obama is a dead beat, marxist, socialist, communist, black President.

TNRebel, you do realize that President Bush was on VACATION his entire Presidency right? OK, that's not fair so let's look at it fairly.

          First 31 months in office:

Obama - 61 days of vacation

Bush - 180, yes ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY days

          Clinton - 28 days

Your beloved GOD Ronald Reagan - 112, ONE HUNDRED TWELVE days

So it seems to me that Republicans don't take their oath of office too serious, or they believe the job is too hard for them so they need more days off to recuperate. Not sure which is right or wrong, but golfing for an afternoon is the least of President Obama's worries with people like you running around spouting nonsense.

I don't know where you got your numbers from nor do I care. If Reagan took 112 days of vacation and still accomplished all the good he did for our country then I applaud him.

Now Obama may be working more days but he is not doing any good for this country unless of coarse you want to live in a socialist dictatorship. True unemployment is keeps going up. Entitlements are bankrupting us and he keeps spending. Approx half of all Americans receive entitlements. The other half is paying for it. It won't be long before those who are paying will be out numbered and we will all end up bankrupt.

I know let's raise taxes on the corporations we have left so the will leave too.

Foreign dignitaries who have visited President Bush at his ranch in Crawford, Texas:

Nov. 14-15, 2001: Russian President Vladimir Putin
April 5-7, 2002: British Prime Minister Tony Blair
April 25, 2002: Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah
Aug. 27, 2002: Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan
Oct. 25, 2002: Chinese President Jiang Zemin
Feb. 21-22, 2003: Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar
May 2-3, 2003: Australian Prime Minister John Howard
May 22-23, 2003: Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi
July 20-21, 2003: Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi
March 5-6, 2004: Mexican President Vicente Fox
April 12, 2004: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak
Nov. 24, 2004: Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia
March 23, 2005: Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin
April 11, 2005: Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
April 25, 2005: Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah
Scheduled on Aug. 4, 2005: Colombian President Alvaro Uribe

Wonder what ever happened to the job Michelle left when her husband was handed the 2008 election. Seems he got her a job in a hospital @ $316,000, a job that was Xed when she moved to D.C. How does one describe the odor of corruption? With so many dead and wounded on weekends one gets the impression hospitals are doing some bounty hunting. Body hunting? Obama - 61 days of vacation

Bush - 180, yes ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY days

          Clinton - 28 days

Your beloved GOD Ronald Reagan - 112, ONE HUNDRED TWELVE days

Naturally, those "vacation days" cited are a media construct.

Bush has his Crawford, Texas ranch. Reagan had his ranch outside of Santa Barbara, CA. Both were real working ranches.

Both were also places that foreign dignitaries and heads of state loved to go for high level summits and negotiations. Basically, those ranches were used instead of the Camp David retreat.

Of course, the liberal media types seized upon these events and called them "working vacations". Eventually, the "working" part was omitted when the media wh0res wanted to equate these diplomatic meetings with things like Clinton's trips to party in the Hamptons and Obama's non-working Hawaiian vacations.

Liberals just love to LIE and exaggerate about the truth. Why can't they just stop the games like their messiah, Obama, and do what is good for ALL Americans. Enough of the games and BS from these uneducated people. America is really in TERRIBLE condition, and not respected much from around the world. We MUST get rid of Obama, with what ever it takes!

Bush 180 days in eight years compared to Obama's 61 in four...

and how about doing a cost analysis on what their vacations cost us tax payers....I bet I know who will win the prize for costing the taxpayes the most.

What really matters is results...and the fact is this President sucks! That is the only word in the english language I can find to describe Obama.. He sucks....he sucks the life out of this country...he sucks the money out of this country......He just SUCKS!~

How many days of vacation is totally unimportant. It's what they did in the days they worked that is important. Neither Bush nor Obama can claim much there. If you are a staunch Dem or Republican, you are a fool. Sorry.

Black doesn't mean stupid. Nor does it necessarily have to mean Poor. If you don't like your life. CHANGE IT. You won't find that CHANGE in the streets.Nor will you find it in Washington. Educate yourself. Get involved with your neighborhood. Fight back against the druggies and gangbangers.

Stop blaming the world for your problems. The problems begin in the home. In unwed mothers and street thugs dealing drugs instead of supporting their families.

Martin Luther King fought and died for the freedoms that are available to you now. Freedoms to be educated. To work at a good paying job. To have your children educated in decent schools. He is rolling over in his grave by now. Disgusted in what his struggle has created.

Mr O just goes off on party and play mode having the most fun at Taxpayer expense, his Family might be off in four separate vacation spots at the same time, it must be nice to have a nation's credit card at your disposal and with 3 extra cards for family members. just how many private jets other than the VP's does he have control of and the VP' also travels somewhere every weekend at our expense so that jets always in use so what does his wife fly around in and what does his oldest daughter fly around in, or did she take a boat to Mexico when Mr O flue to Hawaii ?, with all this vacation stuff how does he find time to run the government.

back when cabrini green was in full swing you couldn't find a cop unless you were in a donut shop.

for those not familiar with cabrini green

Cabrini–Green was a Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) public housing development on Chicago's Near North Side. It was bordered by Evergreen Avenue on the north, Orleans Street on the east, Chicago Avenue on the south, and Halsted Street on the west. Today, only a set of row houses, built in the 1940s, still remain (south of Oak Street, north of Chicago Avenue, west of Hudson Avenue, and east of Larrabee Street). At its peak, Cabrini–Green was home to 15,000 people,[1] living in mid- and high-rise apartment buildings totaling 3607 units. Over the years, gang violence and neglect created terrible conditions for the residents, and the name "Cabrini–Green" became synonymous with the problems associated with public housing in the United States

The Channon Christian/Christopher Newsome murders were the biggest hate crimes of the last decade...and not a peep from MSNBC or any of the major news outlets about it

But jesus, we can't hear enough Travon Martin, it seems; the editors at MSNBC and network news shows keep us apprised of every new development as if it were the most important case they've ever covered

Now if George Zimmerman had beaten Martin for a couple hours, sodomized him, poured bleach down his throat and anus and then wrapped him in a blanket and set it on fire - we might have some parity between the two crimes - but what happened in Sanford isn't even remotely close to what those thugs did to those poor young white kids

            RIP Channon and Christopher

@GrampaSImpson - You need to get a clue. Chicago has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country. This means that only the criminals have guns, so they know that they can shoot at people without worrying about them shooting back. Like the saying goes - "When you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns." Maybe is more people in Chicago were armed these thugs would think twice before shooting at someone. Nothing will make someone hesitate more than wondering if the guy is armed and is going to shoot back and might have better aim. What is going on in Chicago is what happens when honest, law abiding citizens are deprived of the right to protect themselves.

@ JS. Not really, Police have guns too as do citizens, if they registered properly. And to be honest, in these neighborhoods, almost everyone has a gun to "protect themselves" even if it's illegally.

In most of these incidents, there is nothing an armed citizen could do to stop a bullet from a passing car or other individual. Most of the shootings happen at night, usually gang Vs gang, and around large crowds including women and children. I think that as an armed citizen, the only thing I would do is pull out my gun, but be unable to fire, because of the kids and teens running away from the shooter.

And yes, there are dozens of children at 2 am outside, despite there being a curfew. That's why all I can do, as a citizen from Chicago, is shake my head at the parents crying on TV that their 16 year old was shot at 2 am in the street. All I hear on TV is "You can't even walk at night in this neighborhood anymore" You don't say?

            JS,

I'll agree with you in that if you take away the guns from law abiding citizens only the criminals will have guns. BUT what bothers me with the flip side of that is having all these armed civilians with the following: 1) no gun handling training, 2) no shooting skills other then pulling the trigger, 3) no training in correct target acquisition, 4) correct weapons storage in their residences and finally 5) poor to bad judgement on when to shoot or when not to shoot.

Unfortuantely I can not come up with a solution that would balance gun control (actually it should be people control) and gun freedom.

Maybe the police of Chicago should go out in force from midnight to 5am and just clean house? I'm wondering if the ones who are out that late are the ones doing the shooting. If mommy and daddy don't care where their kids are and what they are doing, then why should the police? Or anyone else? Do that for a few months, as nasty as it sounds, and I'd bet the killing would stop due to all the gang bangers getting put down. They want to behave as a rabid dog, then treat them as such! Yeah---we all have rights, but when the scum of society starts crap like this they give up their rights---ALL of their rights. Meet force with force. Looks like the only way to solve it.

Sooo, tell me again how NOT having concealed Carry in Illinois will help keep guns off the street. This just proves once again that thugs and criminals will get guns whenever they want and law abiding citizens have no way to protect themselves. I am so glad Walker was elected in Wisconsin to allow the people of Wisconsin to protect ourselves.

MOS.... It's virtually impossible to have a firearm, legally that is, in Chicago. Of course, those who break the law really don't care whether it's legal or not. They're known as criminals for a reason.

they have those 'good' anti-gun laws. the ones that keep law abiding citizens from packing heat... additionally, the reason only 60 officers signed up for the overtime incentive program, is that the criminals have higher powered weapons than the police. who wants to get all done up in kevlar, then get mowed down by armor piercing rounds from an assault rifle?

also, these guys aren't even fighting over anything real. they are shooting and killing over nonsense. imagine if they had a cause, or if people who actually have problems that matter were shooting folk. When Occupiers begin mowing down crowds of Wall Street bankers, that's when they need to start worrying.

so, to summarize: In Chicago, concealed carry isn't a thing. you cannot slap leather when assaulted by thugs. The police are afraid of the criminals, because they have better arms. the criminals, are, reportedly murdering the townspeople over the color on the latest jordans and what street they live on.

Illinois is the ONLY state in the country that does not allow it's citizen's some form of carry.

You can't openly carry or conceal carry.

How's that working out for you?

As a resident of Chicago, I don't feel he need to carry my legally owned gun. Most of the violence is restricted to one area of Chicago. That's not to say it can spill over, however, the Police pounce on it immediately before it does.

For example, last night a squad car was driving in my block, about to talk some sense into some drunks, when he had to instead drive away at full speed. It was because a gang vehicle was being pursued by Police after a drive by a few miles away and was headed north. A few seconds later 8 squad cars passed by at full speed headed to block the gang vehicle from coming further north. So the gang vehicle turned west, and then south, and the Police stopped the pursuit. They are still looking for the vehicle and shooters...

I think that one of the biggest differences between the gangs of the 30's and 40's and the gangs currently in Chicago, is that the time of Al Capone, gang violence was completely confined to those having business with the gangs...now innocent bystanders routinely are caught in the crossfire with no remorse. In Capone's day, you didn't mess with women and children, but then gangs did not accept juveniles into their ranks. Gangland Chicago of the 30's and 40's had a very strict code of ethics, rules, and they would police their own for stepping outside those boundaries....And, you have to admit, the Capone era gangsters were certainly fond of their machine guns. Imagine being the police without Kevlar to protect you and potentially facing a round of machine gun fire.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 2,695,598 people and 1,194,337 households residing within the city limits of Chicago. More than half the population of the state of Illinois lives in the Chicago metropolitan area. The 2000 United States Census had shown the population density of the city itself was 12,750.3 people per square mile , making it one of the nation's most densely populated cities.

Most of the gun violence is restricted to the South Side, or some blocks in the north side that still house whatever is left of the gangs from the 90's. iPhone theft is popular throughout the city though...

Marine 55 - Are you asking me "when did I visit the hood?" I will admit that it as been several years but a good friend of mine taught HS at Chicago Public schools. Yes there were bad kids but I was more impressed by the number of good kids. Kids that emancipated themselves from their parents, worked full-time and still came to HS everyday. Kids that had dreams to get out of the hood and provide for themselves via education. You can be poor and still be a good role model as a parent for your children. I was raised by a single mother on food stamps and lived in the "hood" but she worked hard and raised two daughters. My sister and I are both college educated and doing well. Being poor is not an excuse for being a criminal or violent.

I've studied ideal population density and I put it at around 1,800 to 2,000 per square mile. More than that and you get the "too many rats in the cage" syndrome.

and there in lies the problem, its not a matter of doing something "for" the black community, its a matter of doing something to the black community or better than that them doing something for themselves. Like educating their children on why its not ok to kill another human over a pair of shoes. That's its not ok to be 14 years old and out all night without supervision, that you are responslible for your position in life, it is completely under your control and is no one else is responsibility or fault. I was in a gas station in downtown Detroit last week listening to a grandmother bragging about the fact that all six of her boys are now out on parole, that her grandson would probably "beat his case" and that she was pregnant. I do not feel sorry for the parent that looses a 16 year old girl that was shot at 2 in the morning while she was out with her gang friends, I feel sorry for the girl that never had any real parents to show her something different to do with her life.

No, their lack of value when it comes to human life runs deeper than poverty. The culture breeds violence. Bein' a gangster is glamorous.

Seems like that's what they're doing anyway. The cops refuse to volunteer to go out there and mix it up with the thugs on the Southside. Guess their union contract says the department can't actually make them do their jobs, they have to volunteer to get shot at. They should have a union though, it tells the panty waist liberals that run big cities "Nope, sorry, we'll only go so far to protect your lily white ass. At a certain point, you're on your own" also, when they try to crucify some poor cop for doing his job, the union will close ranks to protect brother officers.

There is a code of silence in the black community to not turn in the shooters....until the anti police sentitment stops there will continue to be murders, most of which are being carried out by black males on the black community. Time to cooperate....next step...the national guard will be called out to Englewood, Austin.

Very true. Last time I was driving through there and saw people yelling at the police because they stopped a mugging. They weren't even related to the mugger or victim, but were angry the Police were at the right place and right time. Often listening to the Police Scanner, I hear police officers asking for backup because a large crowd is trying to interfere with a shooting investigation or angry at the police because a loved one got killed. However, nobody saw anything or wants to help.

It's no wonder that murders solved in Chicago are at 33%? I believe that's the last estimate CPD released when they were asking the Black Community to break the code of silence.

They're getting what they deserve, if they don't help fix it themselves. The CPD cannot do it on their own and are even putting themselves at risk in attempting to do so.

A lot of commenters seem joyful in describing this issue as a race issue, that it is black on black crime, and in doing so they also imply they and many/most CCW holders are white. If these things are both true, how are the they interrelated and how will CCW solve the problem in South Chicago? Are you commenters impyling you are willing to go all Taxi Driver and "solve" the problem yourself through homicide? Are you really that blood thirsty? It makes we wonder if deep down inside you feel your most prized possession isn't your gun itself, but the CCW permit that you hope to one day wave triumphantly at the officers responding to the scene. Like the permit and gun are just wasting away or something.

If only you cared 1/10 as much about helping others as you lust after a righteous kill--perhaps we could actually do some good in this country.

Thanks for one of the more humane comments. Most of these round 'em off, wall 'em off, shoot 'em on sight comments are more worthy of 1930's Germany than the USA I believe in. Instead of blaming the President why don't you take some responsibility for coming up with some legal, helpful solutions? There are hundreds of thousands of good, ordinary people on Chicago's south side trying to go to work, raise their kids, go to church and live decent lives that find themseves in the crossfire. Is your answer to violence in the city really more violence? Are you so sure that the children who catch a round sitting on their porches or doing homework when a round comes through their bedroom windows deserved to die?

"Do gooders" in this country are the root of the problem. Justifying away any sort of personal responsibility for actions and outcomes. Creating excuses and rationalizations, no matter how horrendouse the behaviors.....We have provided free food, free homes, free education, and yet after more than one generation, it worsens instead of getting better. My Grandma was soooooooo right! People do not appreciate nor respect that which they didn't have to work for on their own. Furthermore, they come to view themselves as superior to those who provide all these benefits, because they have figured out how to live, and manipulate others to provide for them....they see those others as chumps.

Sorry, Sue, but you can't have it both ways. You can't blame the "do gooders" who are providing programs to help kids with after-school programs, going on neighborhood watch patrols, confronting the gang bangers, and helping the victims of gun violence and at the same time blame them for not taking responsibility. Somehow I don't think the world is going to hell in a handbasket because too many people are trying to do good.

Funny the attitude of "if it isn't white people shooting blacks, who cares, right?" may be Southern in origin ? but is now universal in the USA. Even the police do not want to work in the ghetto and I don't blame them. Its time for all the boys in the hoods to be arrested for income tax evasion.

Jessie and Al don't do anything for the blacks. The only time they show up is if they think a white has mistreated a black! These two are a disgrace not speaking and engaging the black community. They actually could care less about black on black violence. They could be doing a lot of good but that's not on their agenda!!!!!!

Agreed. The only time they do anything for the black community is when publicity is involved. If they set aside their own needs to whore themselves out to the media for attention and actually DID something to help the black community instead of promoting their own racism, I would have more respect for them. As it is, they are just a disgraceful bunch of racist bigots.

The comments that blacks are pushed down into the ghetto are pure hogwash. My perception is that they are lazy, sit around collecting govt aid and do nothing to better themselves. I used to be a flight attendant.I can honestly say that 9 times out of 10 if you had a black crew member on the plane, they did not work hard. The rest of us- other ethnicities, but not black all worked until the service was done and picked up. The black crew member would sit down with their magazine and eat while we cleaned up and did walk throughs. I'm not kidding. Now that I have college kids- we pay the full deal. No break on tuition, room and board, books. Nada. Yet there seems to be a ton of aid for those whose parents did nothing to prepare, They did not sacrifice to pay for their kids educations. Instead they bought cigarettes, big screen tv's, tats or vacationed. Where is the justice? I'm sick of my high taxes paying for all this nonsense- and lush prisons too! Stop killing each other, stop getting pregnant, parents step up and actually act like parents and GET A JOB! ENOUGH!

                                Susan,

I do not understand why it is so easy for people to generalize one race.

Majority of people on welfare are white. Most blacks do not get a break on tuition. I do not know where you are getting your lies from, but you should look up some statistics.

actually, there are African Americans on welfare than whites.now,i know you will say I'm wrong,so be it! the information i got for that came from a collage whom did a survey of people. i am not against using welfare until you get on your feat for a job. people have to make adjustments in this economy.

Texas- learn to read. I said it was my PERCEPTION. My personal experience. If I observe that, many other people do too. Statistics can be twisted to show anything you want. Just my observations.

And to ChangeICan Believe...... If my honest, personal observations make me a "racist, right winger" .... so be it. I am actually a fiscal conservative and more socially liberal. We work very hard, volunteer our time in our community, give to a number of charitable organizations and have taught our children to be honest, help others, be responsible and accountable for themselves and work hard.

They both have held summer jobs since they were 15. They both have been taught to save half their income for their college spending money and they both suffered the consequences if they made a mistake- no making excuses for them on our part. Our college student is on the deans list-he's been told he has 4 years to graduate or it's on him. Our high schooler in on the honor roll. Point is: they have been taught to be responsible citizens. I'm all for helping someone get on their feet or get BACK on their feet. I'm sick of the free handouts to people who are lazy and dont CARE TO HELP THEMSELVES. That is going to bankrupt this country. Where is the incentive to do better and do your best work, when more and more of our hard earned pay is taken away?

I hate to be the grammar/ spelling police but "there" should be "their" and ballot's should be ballots....it is not possessive.
