BMW misses parking spot, lands on Jaguar, Mercedes

NBC Chicago

A BMW made its own parking spot Thursday morning when it landed on top of two other cars.

The SUV was on the third floor of a parking garage around 11:15 a.m. at 20 E. Randolph St. when the driver suddenly hit the gas, said Vicky Baftiri, who witnessed the incident.

The car flew through some wires and launched into the air, landing on top of a Jaguar and Mercedes.

"I was pulling out from my parking spot," Baftiri said. "If those cars weren't there he would've hit me."

The driver looked thoroughly shaken and Baftiri yelled to call 911. Chicago Police and fire officials arrived, and no one appeared injured.

The crash happened on the same floor as an Enterprise Rent-A-Car. A clerk at the kiosk told Baftiri the man was returning the rented vehicle.

Studio Steve, you're not supposed to use that language on the internet, they let children on it. Not sure why but they do. Everyone knows that four letter words are only acceptable when it's really really cold outside, really really hot outside, or after 10:00pm. If a kid is around at those times, they are a tough one and can handle it.

I hope he had the good sense to purchase the insurance. While your own insurance might pay for the damage to the rental, the rental company will sue for loss of revenue while the repairs are completed and your own insurance will not cover the loss.

Driver was probably pissed at the price of gas when he/she had to return the SUV with a full tank.

Somehow, someway, people use this story as an opportunity to bash BMW, bash the 1% crowd, etc.

There could be a story about an old lady feeding ducks by the pond, and somehow someone would spew hate in response.

          Reply#34 - Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:20 AM EDT

Well, we don't seem to be able to tax the 1% crowd, so other than make fun of their foibles, excesses and penchant for misbehavior, what are we to do?

They pay the same % of tax on those purchases as the rest of us, plus a luxury tax on top of that. "Penchant" for misbehavior? Seriously? Have you seen the show Cops? Every crowd regardless of what they have in the bank has a penchant for misbehavior.

The Bimmer was trying to mate. Jags are all feminine and that Merc had some nice headlights on her.

I see a little justice in this. Most luxury cars I see in parking lots are usually taking up 2 parking spots because they don't want their precious car dinged. "But it cost a lot to fix my BMW." You should have thought of that when you bought it. It doesn't give you the right to be an ass.

And please, don't accuse me of being jealous. My passions and desires do not include automobiles.

The way to deal with the two space morons is to park about six inches away from the driver's side door.

Couldn't happen to a better cohort of one-percenter cars.

Now, if the driver had access to a car elevator such as Mitt Romney plans to install in his La Jolla home.....

Yes, my faith in conservative trolls has been confirmed, one actually used this totally unrelated, non political, article as a forum in which to attack Obama. Really, no tangible topics to attack him on, you have to resort to this sillyness?

Once the BMW left the ground and became airborne your insurance was cancelled due to the fact that you do not carry a flight rider, therefore we cannot cover your landing. We will file this under act of God. Have a nice day. Is there anything else?

....now you can see why the BMW logo "symbol".....looks like a puckered a$$hole...and...for that matter...so does the Mercedes logo. It's usually is a good identifier of the driver inside....
