2 dead in possible murder-suicide at LA's Beverly Hilton

LOS ANGELES -- Two people were found dead Friday night in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide in a room at the Beverly Hilton, police said Saturday, just hours before the Daytime Emmy Awards are held at the posh hotel.

Police responding to a report of a shooting found a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds, Lt. Mark Rosen said.

"Both are believed to have been long time residents of the hotel," the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement, adding that "there is no known connection to the Daytime Emmy Awards event."

Coroner's officials had yet to begin their investigation, but said the dead are a man in his late 60s and a woman in her mid-50s.

The Daytime Emmy Awards are scheduled to be held at the Beverly Hilton at 8 p.m. ET Saturday, the latest among several other annual galas that are held at the luxury hotel, including the Golden Globe Awards.

Whitney Houston was staying at the hotel in February when she drowned in a bathtub.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

What the hell is going on with the Beverly? It's now where the rich go to die? Strange!

I'll take quality of life over quantity of life any day - the USA has more hang-ups over things they haven't a clue about. I figure I'll (self) check out around 65yo - 11 years of chronic pain is a 24/7 battle - by age 65 I'll have been merely existing for 20 years, if you think I'm going to stick around just because somebody can't deal with my death - then you are the crazy one.

I wonder what percentage of hotel/motel rooms have had someone take their own life?

PS; if you are healthy and choose to just sit on the computer all day - you are throwing away your life.

You meant "Check out".

It's the only hotel in LA that gives you suicide instructions.

      Pam-

I don't know what the care from the LA Veterans hospital is like, but I have to say I'm a disabled vet living in ND and I get impressive care from the VA Hospital in Fargo, the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, and the VA Hospital in Montana. The very fact that I'm alive right now is 100% attributable to all of them.

Maybe the care just sucks at that VA Hospital. I personally know it does at the West Palm Beach VA Hospital. The sad part is, when that Hospital was opened there, they had the very best staff. Now, I won't go back for treatment from them for any reason. Not even my dog.

It just makes a difference of where you live and the folks in charge of your local facility. Some go out of their way for you and some are just there to punch the clock.

      Pam -

I hope everyone calls the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital and the officials above them if they are giving that kind of counseling. I am not a veteran, though I am disabled. That kind of talk is not tolerated in any healthcare and the people spreading that kind of crap should be immediately fired with no alternative. They could have already cost lives. God bless, hon. I pray for every veteran and person involved in these senseless wars.

Really? Your comment appeared pretty sweet and appropriate until you had to add the politics at the end with "senseless." I am pretty sure the men and women who served the multiple wars wouldn't appreciate being told that the war they fought and most likley saw their brothers and sisters killed was a senseless fight - many of them believe and support their nation. I might be a very proud and loud liberal but I cannot call a war senseless when the very men and women in this nation fought and possible died or received injurious physical and/or psychological wounds from it. Yes, I would like the war to be over. Yes, I would like for our troops to be sent home. Yes, I believe we may have had ulterior motives in going to the wars in the first place. But I support the men and women serving the military arm of this nation. The war isn't senseless - the politicans might be misguided but the men and women served their country left something and/or gained something when they went to Iraq and/or Afghanistan. I really do not think I am articulating what I mean to say correctly... I just do not think it is appropriate to tell a veteran and/or veterans that the actions they did were senseless. But I am sorry if I offended anyone.

as for the couple at the hotel............ LONG TIME RESIDENTS?? of the "posh" Hilton? Guess money really doesn't buy happiness, but it would sure be nice to trade places with an unhappy wealthy person for awhile just so both parties could see what life is like on the other side. Might give a new appreciation for living. I know it sure would give me a break from punching the clock and paying out more than I make to keep my family in a quaint home with food and utilities! I figure one night at the Hilton is possibly what I make in a month!

Hotel management must surely think they were just trying to skip out on the bill.

Would not surprise me to find out that one was terminally ill and wanted a night or two at the Hilton before he/she passed on, and the partner joined the venture.

The world is getting to be a tougher place for many, and I often wonder how the elderly cope as well as they do, given the major shafting they get.

Hatchet... apparently you failed reading comprehension 101. The police noted they were apparently "long time residents of the hotel". So, they weren't going for a last big fling.

And SUSIE.... Over the years, I have had NO problems with any of the insurance carriers I've used. And that includes my wifes emergency surgery due to hemmoraghing after the birth of our son. Multiple surgeries for her over the years after for other issues, a couple of minor surgeries for myself and of course a hip replacement for me. In total I've had to take MAYBE $1,500 out of pocket, and that dates back to 1976.

Of course if your try to get over on the insurance company, like many do, they WILL come down on you like a ton of bricks.... and rightly so.

Quit dragging your stupid, pointless, OCD-type obscessions about your political beliefs that NO ONE cares about in here and let us figure out why these people died, what caused them to die, and to feel a bit of remorse for their deaths and for justice to be done for those people. I have a sneaking suspicion that someone made it look like a murder-suicide and that this same someone may have also murdered Whitney Houston. I am calling a serial killer on this one.

I read of an elderly couple who did just that-- in a hospital room. The wife was terminally ill and was suffering. Her husband put an end to her suffering and joined her in death. He couldn't stand her suffering any longer-- and he wouldn't live without her.

Don't criticize people for what they would do in that case. If this couple were in the same situation I can see his reasoning. They were probably married for years, grew together and couldn't be apart.

RIP, and condolences to the family members.

And yet another distraction from what is going on in America that is important.

And in other important news for today: Kittens were born to the Bolgers cat, Dummy, today. And Johny B, (name withheld because he is a minor) fell and skinned his knee. More important news and updates to these and other stories to follow.

What three things come immediately to your mind that are more important than this 'story?'

How about instead of reporting about the TWO people who are dead at the Hilton, you report about the TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE. men, women and children, that INVADED our country in the last 24 hours, that you and I will now have to support in one way or another.

BTW. My message is not off topic. If you take the time to read this you will see that I am suggesting that the media is off topic!

Aren't the rest of you sick and tired of having what amounts to FAKE NEWS, events that are of interest to twenty-seven people, rather than the other three-hundred-million of us, served to us every day?

Really, AJV? Really!?! How about the MILLIONS of Europeans who invaded what is now called "North America" -- and MURDERED the Native inhabitants just because there was some financial benefit in doing so?

And Tetrapoda brings up a VERY valid point: When was the last time you actually did any of the work those "illegals" do every day? Last year, when the "illegals" decided to melt into the background and leave all those crops rotting in the fields -- AJV, where were YOU? You people want cheap food and merchandise, but you don't want to do anything to bring that food into market or manufacture that merchandise....because those jobs just don't pay the $15-$30 an hour you insist on.

I trust NO ONE and I will not trust someone who can not have a life outside of reporting on whether a war was just or unjust. Seriously, I do not know who is worse in our country, people from the left and the right or the people who populate the middle and the fringe. What you need to do is to get a hobby, get a life, go to this place called outside, and get a woman (or, if you are a woman, get a man), and get the H-E-DOUBLE TOOTHPICKS off of the interwebz! Since we've entered the wars 10-years ago, there's been more people murdered by firearm in the United States each year, than the total amount of soldiers we've lost in both wars.

There's a person murdered-by-firearm on-average every-hour in the United States. This does not include "accidental" shootings, suicides, or murder by other means.

Consider that again: more people murder every-year in the United States by firearm, than we've had killed total in both wars.

Have gun - will shoot. It's the American way.

I own a firearm by the way, but I clearly understand the implications.

A very high persentage of the shooting deaths are gang-on-gang killings, so not a big deal.

I own guns too. I have never had to pull or use it. One guy that had been threatening me and carried a gun came over to me one day drunk and wanted to be friends. He placed his hand on my shoulder and felt more than my bra strap. I had my legally concealed weapon on a shoulder strap under my blouse. He figured that out and had a heart attack on the spot. He lived and never bothered me again. Guns can be good. Just depends upon the morals and values of the people.

Sal, I agree gangs killings gangs is not so bad. The really tragic part is when innocent victims get caught in the cross fire. We, as a society, should expend resources to eliminate gangs.

And if murders with knives got the same attention as murders with guns, there would be a huge hollering about how knives are so evil..........

If a gun is responsible for the death of anyone at all, then a spoon and/or fork is responsible for fat people being fat.

How about enforcing all current laws -- and working to eliminate gangs AND the reasons for gangs. By giving gangs more ammunition, the gangs will be better able to kill innocent by-standers who "get in the way" of those very poorly-aimed guns.

Hm agnon, I note that you are in favor of half of what the gangs need and that the letters of your moniker, rearranged, spells agamemnon.

2011 statistics shows just over 30000 gun related deaths last year, this figure does not take into account intent, merely gun + death, as you know (hopefully) 24 hrs per day times 365 days(what we call a year) = 8760 hrs per year = .292 deaths per hour,

so in the future try not to lie so much or at least educate yourself before you try to advocate stealing my constitutional rights.

I solved it. It will turn out to be two from the daily Soaps who were about to be written out and the Actors Union did not want to pay out. Had a camera crew, director and sound man and the special effect guy just used live rounds instead of blanks. ACTION! Then they all went out for a late brunch. Just wait.

I worked at the Bevery Hilton in the Corporate office there when the Hilton's ruled and worked in Corporate there with us. We always had a lot of fun, saw and talked with celebrities and it was a beautiful and prestigious place. People had "class" and were extremely nice to one another - very professional. We need to bring back that sense of style and honor to society in order to respect one another. Demoting one another on a daily basis does nothing but to encourage more of the same. All of us should treat each other with dignity, worth and prestige because we all have been given a life which is a responsibility to oneself and to each other. It's a sad day when lives are taken for nought and it certainly is not the Hilton's fault.
