After seeing a set of Thai boxing matches at a street festival last spring, and noticing the collective, kind of mob-like emotion of violence through the crowd of spectators, I can see why some equate such sports with dog fighting. The feeling of hate was unbelievable in that I had never seen it before, as I am not interested in viewing such sports, but I was just walking by. But doing so only hurts the causes of the animals, slowing down the process of stopping animal fighting, because in reality, human fighting is done with knowledge. So in order to stop dog fighting and like activities, just leave the boxing/fighting argument out.

I agree that humans, in general, have the POTENTIAL toward voilent inclinations...but where you & I disagree is that you think that all humans always have violent urges that they always want to act upon and that this fuels their daily activities, including their enjoyment of sports. I think that some people have more violent inclinations than others, and some of those more violent people are dominated by those inclinations to the extent that it dictates their lives. I didn't realize figure skating was a contact sport. NASCAR is like tennis until there is a crash... What are the highlight reels they show over and over? Your comment proves that you know NOTHING about the history of dogfighting. I did a research paper a few years back and, as even the most casual amount of investigation will show, just about EVERY major dogfighter in US history (including current history) has been a white man. Yes, there are a few major players in the dogfighting world that are black or hispanic, but a majority are white guys. Also, dogfighting is a worldwide sport, meaning it exists in every culture. The reason you tend to hear more about small-scale dogfighting rings that are run by black or hispanic people is that they are less sophisticated, less transient, and often easier for the authorities to find. If this article is about a major dogfighting kingpin, my money, if I was a betting man, and if we were going off of statistics, would be that he's a white guy.

Anyway - regardless of culture, skin color, or any other factor, I hope these guys & girls are prosecuted to the very fullest extent of the law for their crimes against these wonderful dogs.

Unfortunately, they probably won't rehabilitate them. They will most likely be put down because you can never know what will set them off. They were raised to fight and that's all they know now.

Though I agree they will most likely be killed without being given a chance because that is the current mentality out there, I disagree that they all would be beyond rehabilitation.

Are you familiar with the Vick Dogs and how these dogs were rehabbed by a number of rescue groups? Maybe you could check out the Best Friends website and see for yourself. The dogs want to please their humans and so they fight to the death to do just that. But most can 'unlearn' this behavior as well given time and the proper training and support.

Until somthing sets them off, maybe your kid are you willing to take that chance. And don't tell me it's the owners fault. Pits are raised to kill it's an instinct just like a herding dog is raised to herd. Even a herding dog that has never herded can and will. It's their instinct.

This isn't about geographical location. There are sadists/abusers in every state. One was just broken up not far from my home in Florida. Until or unless there are severe consequences for these sick people this "sport" will continue.

I worked in a shelter for rescue animals from all over the country. Among the most abused are greyhounds. These rescue dogs were so malnourished that you could see, with the naked eye, all of the broken ribs on these beautiful animals. Multiple scars on their noses and ears. Yet...they still wagged their tails to greet me and were very affectionate. Dogs can be very forgiving. But all I could think about was: Where are the douche bags who did this because I want to punch them in their faces. And I've never hit anyone in my life...but I would have enjoyed that.
