New Jersey police are trying to identify a man found wandering naked through a forested area Sunday afternoon.
Updated at 5:56 p.m. ET:-- Police in Mahwah, N.J., have identified the man found wandering naked and covered in mud through a forested area off Route 202 Sunday afternoon, officials said Monday.
According to NJ.com, Mahwah Police Chief James N. Batelli identified the man as 36-year-old Russell J. Cox of Ocean, N.J.
New Jersey police asked the public’s help in trying to identify the man, who police said was covered in mud and couldn’t provide any information about his identity or where he was coming from, NJ.com reported.
The man had no signs of injuries, Batelli told msnbc.com, but had been taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for an evaluation. Police found a pile of clothes nearby that may belong to the man and some paperwork from New York State, but no identifying documents were found.
Cox was released into the custody of a family member Monday afternoon, NJ.com reported.
"The family member was able to offer some insight into the actions of Mr. Cox which will be addressed by his family," Batelli told NJ.com.
Authorities still do not know how Cox ended up north of Ocean, N.J.

Life can be too much for some people.
Something simular happened to me in 1980 after my son of 3 onths age passed away from SIDS. Many of you folks commenting may have never experienced what this man may, or, granted, may not have suffered!
I spent time in Vietname and Desert Storm, saw many trageties, but loosing my first born was way too much for me to comprehend. For 4 days after his death I remember nothing!
I'm surprised, no one has blamed the Obama administration of having something to do with it!!!

He could be suffering from dementia. People with dementia often wander off on their own without knowing what they are doing or where they are. Dementia is usually associated with older people, but it can have causes other than old age.

Around here, the wildlife runs away when they see me. I think maybe they just want to expose themselves to the other wildlife. Maybe if I was naked too, they wouldn't run away. That could be an idea for you hunters out there.

One time I was upset because I had seen a man in front of the old Bob's Big Boy restaurant in Anaheim laying naked in front of the restaurant on the lawn with a newspaper covering him. I was not sure what had happened to this man, but it appeared that someone may have raped him and stolen his clothing and no one was even bothering to help him. So sad. I am glad that someone is here to help this man. It is dangerous being outside by yourself alone and naked. I got upset and broke down this year and took off my clothing because I wanted authorities to understand that I have no weapons to fight with. Apparently, this man is not dangerous either here or he would have had something on him. I suppose he must have been upset about something too. If he had mentioned Orange County, he may have gone through something similar I had and can't talk about it or is afraid to. Maybe he did the same thing as me, taking off all of his clothes to prove that he is not going to hurt anyone or he may be subjected to being possibly framed. Orange County means something. Orange County stands for specific areas that are used by certain entities. He must have just freaked out and did not know what to do or who to talk to.

I also live in Orange County California and I found your story most interesting. I must say though that I still don't get the part about you taking off your cloths?? As for the guy in New Jersey I still can't figure out the connection between him and the naked guy you saw sleeping in front of Bob's Big Boy naked and covered by a newspaper. The rest of your posting was a bit strange as well. That being said I have to get back to the planet earth so good luck with you space travels.

What entities would you be talking about using Orange Co for things? That's a very vague statement. Is there an Orange Co in New Jersey? I am aware of one in CA, which might explain your lack of lucidity.

somebefuddledperson, no in this case it would be Orange County NY, which is not far from Mahwah NJ where he was found. But eithe way Valerie read this wrong, since the article says he is from Ocean County NJ, which is about 2 hours away to the south. His name is Russel Cox.
@Valerie, I agree with Sam. You need to be more careful, you are all over the Internet flaunting your under-dressed body, and over made-up face, makes you look like a cheap floozy. Have some self respect, because like Sam said, people like you, seeking attention at all costs are easy-pickings for some nut job wanting to hurt and abuse you. One suggestion is to use different identities for each online activity. And go easy on the make-up, it doesn't suit you. And above all: Be smart. Be safe.
