The purpose of an appearance bond is to insure that a defendant remains withing the juristiction of the court and appears in court at the appointed time. It's purpose is not to take punitive action agains the defendant.

One thing is for certain Sandra and Tim. The networks can't put a spin on the police report or the 911 call as the police adviced Zimmerman that "we don't want you to do this." Zimmerman was in pursuing Martin even after being advised by the police not to. If Martin did beat his behind, he had every right to. If an unmarked vehicle was pursing me and I was not doing anything wrong, you better believe they can be ready for me to defend myself when they got out of their vehicle. The media wanted a story, so they threw themselves in the middle of a situation they knew little about for national attention. They got it, they got all the attention they wanted and caused a huge national stir by imprinting ideas in people's minds with limited information.

The court of public opinion, because the court of public opinion is not ruled by logic and facts, it's ruled by media spins and emotion. A very dangerous court to fall victim to indeed. Martin also has the right to protect himself from a private citizen who he believes is trying to do him harm. Aren't bonds set in relation to the threat of flight, not how much money a person can dig up? Zimmerman is a low probability runner, and he did show up twice voluntarily. Denying him bond is convicting him before a trial, and that is very unamerican. A trial is basically a waste of time, with the evidence available up to this point. But peoples gots to be peoples. I guess the taxpayers will pay a couple of million to try him, and then set him free in an effort to be the racists they are..

I am thankful for the fact that the justice system does not, can not, pass judgement based on public opinion. Innocent until proven guilty is a basic principle of our laws. It has already been proven to a judge, who ruled on facts and revoked bail, that Mr. Zimmerman has faulted with the truth. If released, he may, along with the help of his father, try to embellish further or even tamper with the process. How deep can the rabbit hole go? Staying in jail might just be the best thing for him, allowing due process without interference. Just my opinion and not intended to offend anyone. Thanks.

Champ, and others. I would like any of you to present, for a fact, that Zimmerman continued to "follow" Martin AFTER dispatch said "we don't NEED you to do that". (listen to the call again, dispatch said "need"). Everybody keeps claiming that Zimmerman continued to follow Martin after that comment by dispatch, yet nobody has given any reason for saying it, other than "CNN said it".

Dispatch told Zimmerman to tell them exactly what Martin was doing, when Zimmerman says Martin ran, dispatch continued to ask Zimmerman where Martin went and where he was going. Clearly Zimmerman is going to need to try to keep an eye on Martin to give them those details. At this point nobody knows how far away Zimmerman was from Martin. Everybody assumes Zimmerman was trying to catch up to Martin....which nobody knows if that was the case. Also there is no proof that Zimmerman continued to follow Martin after the comment by dispatch. According to Zimmerman he then turned and headed back to his truck, and Martin approached him from behind. Which fits the evidence, as the confrontation happened between Martin's house and Zimmerman's truck. If Zimmerman was walking back to his truck, then Martin would have approached him from behind, assuming he was running to his house. No proof that Zimmerman continued to look for Martin.

Furthermore, and nobody has answered this one. Both Zimmerman and Martin's girlfriend both stated that Martin ran, from the location of the truck towards the location of the house. At the point of the "we don't need you to do that" comment, there is 40+ seconds of conversation between Zimmerman and dispatch. There was roughly 20 seconds of conversation between the moment Zimmerman stated Martin ran, and the dispatch comment. So Martin had roughly a full minute from the moment he ran until the end of the call to dispatch. Established by the dispatch call. Now why didn't Martin make it home? A young, athlete, should have had no problem making it to the house in 60 seconds....especially if he is running. The confrontation happened 300 feet from the house. Looking at the map, looking at the timeline on the call to dispatch. There is no reason Martin should not have made it home. Even in the 40 seconds after the comment Martin should have had plenty of time to make it home.

Why didn't he make it home? Because he wanted to find out who this guy was, talking to the police, watching him. Martin, who should have been home if he was running from a stranger, went back to confront Zimmerman. The established time line, and the distance between the house, confrontation, and Zimmerman's truck, all add up to Martin back tracking to confront Zimmerman. The physical injuries on Zimmerman show Martin physically attacked him, and the lack of injuries to Martin show that Zimmerman never got a single hit in....not something you would expect if Zimmerman was the one initiating the confrontation. It all adds up to Zimmerman's account, which is self defense.

Yes, let Zimmerman go free-- on one condition. HE RETURN TRAYVON TO HIS MOTHER IN GOOD HEALTH.

It wasn't a trailer park but rather a gated community and poor little Travon didn't come through the gate but rather cut through the wall. If the neighborhood watchman had not stopped him and he had gone in and robbed a home or killed or raped someone then everyone would be wanting to know why he didn't do his job. Rght off the bat--TRAYVON did NOT live in this gated community. He was there visiting with his dad at his DAD's girfriend's condo, and at that, ONLY because he had been suspended from SCHOOL for two weeks for possession of drugs. NOT an 'innocent kid.'

And Zimmerman DID have cuts and bruises--visible ON the video of him being brought into the police station (AFTER being treated at the scene of the shooting by EMT's, and after his wife brought him a clean jacket and drove their car home), visible on a neighbor's cell phone, visible to all the witnesses, etc. YOU just chose to buy into ABC's showing of a grainy video of the police station, which when ANOTHER source zoomed in CLEARLY showed the cuts.

And I have to LAUGH at those who claim that when Zimmerman went to his own doctor the next morning, that that doctor would have willingly 'lied' and fudged his records on Zimmerman's broken nose, black eyes, etc. MY 'family doctor couldn't pick me out of a line up. I did not realize the young man went after Zimmerman. I was under the impression that Mr. Z followed the young man for several blocks, even after being advised to cease by the police.

At what point was Mr Z "attacked"? After stalking Tryvon for several blocks, after being advised to cease, after exiting his vehicle and confronting the young man...? I would have "attacked" him myself if it were me.

Regardless if Martin was actually breaking into a house, you can't shoot someone for that or if you thought they may do it. You can only shoot someone if they broke into your home and attempted to cause you deadly harm. Zimmerman didn't own those streets. In fact there was only three street names in the entire subdivision and according to him, he didn't even know the names of the streets. Of course that's a lie because if you lived in a subdivision for three years, AND was neighborhood watch captain, you would know the house number and street of every home. Zimmerman lies every time he opens his mouth.

Starts out, says these are back of buildings, says no address so he had to go down the sidwalk(where Trayvon was walking) to get address to tell cops. Yes... it is so simple to get the weapon out of your holster (depending on the type of holster even this can be a challenge when pinned) when you are pinned to the ground and having your head beat into the concrete so badly you "fear for your life" and fire a clean shot at intermediate range. I would like to see anyone who claims to have been on the edge of conciousness and having their head beat into a concrete sidewalk somehow manage to overpower their aggressor enough to remove a weapon from under/behind their assailant and get off a shot without the assailant who is obviously "in control" disarming them. Anyone with any common sense isn't going to buy into that scenario. Anyone who has ever been in a violent conflict knows this is utter bs. There isn't even a remote chance that Zimmerman could have fired a clean front to back shot at intermediate range given the scenario he himself described.

@Croc5, Watch GZ on the video as he walks through with the police what happened. He claims TM was sitting on hi. GZ uses his left hand, indicates he reached accross his body to pull his side arm. He motions to his left side.

So I am asking people to try and duplicate what GZ says happened. how do you reach there when someone is sitting on you, and their body (legs ) is covering that portion of your body? TM would have to reach and look behind him.

He's left handed, and reached to his right side to get his gun, then managed to shoot TM on the right side of his body, with a straight on shot?

As one other person said here he slipped when he talks about the covering the mouth part, and says he was covering TM's mouth. I am not making this stuff up, it's GZ's own words. Also pull up the transcript of his initial call to the police, and match it to the video as you watch it. You can't, it doesn't match.

Sorry, I misremembered. I just watched it again. Watch the actual video released from the police. Note these this I bring up, and see what conclusion you come to. He is not left handed as I stated. He did reach across his body in an attempt to show how TV reached for his gun. He also states he GZ put his hand on TM's mouth, then quickly changes it, then stuttered when he said nose with the other. Regardless he now has two free hands. He only reaches for the gun when he says TM "saw it, or I think he did". How can he smother TM's arm with his elbow, when he wasn't able to hold TM's hands back with his own hands?

The call, his written statement, and the video need to be looked at to see if they match. IMHO not one of them matches another.

Get to the truth. Martin's family has had all the records sealed about Travon's trouble in school. He was caught at school with burglary tools and women's jewelry in a back pack after caught tagging lockers. He had been suspended 3 times at school once was for drugs. All his friends posted blunts on his facebook page and had been asking him for pot before he died. He was no Saint. He was well on his way to becoming a thug. Recent pictures of him do not show a 10 year old smiling child. Obama made a large mistake in weighing in on this. . You do not hear MSN giving the whole story. What I want to know is, why did that fool lawyer for Zimmerman let him do that reenactment? He should know that it will more than likely be introduced as evidence by the prosecution. Even if Zimmerman doesn't testify, there is precedent to admit it. Just look at the Sandusky trial. Yes, the world is nuts. The Zimmerman defenders believe there should be no consequences for lying to a judge. What a wonderful example this will set for defendents everywhere if the judge lets him out!!

And is it just me, or does it bother anyone else that he has shown absolutely no remorse or emotion for what he did? Think about it. He doesn't look particularly bothered right after the shooting in the police station video, nor does he seem to bothered during questioning.

The father that recently beat his daughter's molester to death is a perfect example. That poor father was absolutely hysterical. And this was a man who he witnessed assault his little girl!!! He was still begging for help for the man. That has NOTHING to do with whether the judge should let him make bail.

The judge is allowed to consider it in how MUCH bail should be, but is NOT allowed to use it as a reason not to GRANT bail.

Actually that is perjury... even by omission it is still perjury. And the punishment is 5 years in prison. For both Zimmerman and his wife.

There are three sides to every story, and this is no different except-----

Side One, Trayvon's side. Everyone knows about that. GZ made sure that he couldn't tell his side.

Side Two, The Lord's side-- and He won't tell.

So that leaves only one side to tell HIS side of the story.

The news services were responding to the Judge's decision to release the jailhouse recordings and witness statements. The defense attorney was asking the Judge to reconsider releasing them, and the news services were responding that the Judge made the correct call, releasing public records.

The witness statement they were referring to was the anonymous phone caller who said that Zimmerman was a violent racist.

One Man - Sorry I hate to tell you this but "He had no right to follow anyone at all" is completely untrue. Why is it that the people support TM keep bringing up "facts" that are just not true at all.

It's his community in a public place. He has EVERY right to follow him if he wants to without the fear of being assaulted. He was asked not to follow and said OK and stopped. The act of "following" is irrelevant anyway because it was a perfectly LEGAL thing to do.

Also please pay attention to the call. GZ talks for over 88 seconds after Trayvon is "gone". How exactly can TM stand his ground after GZ has long since lost him and has a conversation for over 1 minute and 28 seconds. IMO for the altercation to occur where it did in the timeline that it does it sure seems to fit GZ's narrative much better than Dee Dee statements.

It was Martin screaming for his life over and over, while tough guy was showing gun to him, when Martin kept screaming and would not stop, Zimm tried covering Trayvons nose and mouth telling him to shut up and you're gonna die. actually Zimmerman did not have a right to follow martin. The rules to haveing a concealed weapon are clear that if you are the agressor then you may not pull out your weapon. Following someone at night is considered an agressive act. Ask the police or even follow the police and see if they dont stop and question you. Its agressive plainand simple and since he has a concealed carry permit, he is responsible to NOT be the agressor in any situation. I have a concealed carry and thats the fist thing they teach you in the class.

Just read any of the original news reports on this case: when Zimmerman told the 911 dispatcher (a police dept employee) that he was following the "suspicious black male" he replied "No, you don't need to do that."

I don't understand two things here - and Zimmerman may be as guilty as accused. In which case he should be punished. But he is getting trashed for doing two things that I believe were quite possibly morally and legally correct.

1) He followed Martin after a DISPATCHER said "we don't need you to do that." Hello, if you lived in a dangerous neighborhood (nothing to do with race), and there had been recent violence, and you were concerned for the welfare of your family, is an offhand remark like that really going to address your concerns? Or wouldn't you rather have been assured something like "OK, watch from a good distance, and we promise to be there in 5 minutes or less." Yes, police are overworked, and probably could not do that. Which is the reason one could reasonably be inclined to follow. It's fine to pay others to do their job, but if they don't, or can't, where does the responsibility lie? And yes, this is valid even, if not even more, in the case of government.

2) He lied to the judge about his donations. But why? Could it have been that the donors wanted their money to go for his family's support, not to pay for hus bond? Again, they all could be wrong about innocence or guilt, and believe me, I would not ever contribute; but if I did, and it was for a stated purpose, then it is as though my money was "in trust" for that purpose only. It is my hard-earned money, and I can say that. In fact, I could send grocery coupons instead. So, legalities notwithstanding, no judge can tell me that he is now going to use my money for a bond. That's plain wrong. And, apparently, that is what the judge would have done, or he would not have asked. Zimmerman knew this, and if that was the reason he lied, then he was in the right. Obviously, we may never know for sure, but the government, including judges, can be wrong. When you know without a doubt in your mind and heart that they are wrong, or that the law is wrong, do you really still feel compelled to suffer at their hand? That is not how this country was founded. There has to be, at some level, an acknowledgement that each of us, individually, is the ultimate check and balance of justice. If government has all the power, then the greed of man, and our own ambivalence will enslave us.

You would be a fool to confront someone you knew had a gun. It would be smarter to run, no? You make it sound like Zimmerman was in camo, hiding in the bushes with a rifle waiting for unarmed teens to walk by. Moving to a location so that you can see someone (as asked to by the 911 dispatcher) is not stalking. When told he didn't need to be following on foot, he said OK and stopped following. The problem Enough is that the only side of the story we can hear, the one you're quoting, is from Zimmerman, the accused. I'm not saying he's guilty, personally I feel the people that have been harassing his family are monsters, but all we have is the word of an accused murderer to go off of. Add to that the fact that he and his wife lied about their available funds, and suddenly trusting his word is harder to do.

I'm still waiting for all the facts, but from my point of view, it doesn't look good for Zimmerman right now. I say keeping him in jail sounds like a fitting punishment for his prior lie.

Based on Zimmerman's statement, Martin didn't see the gun until after he confronted Zimmerman so I don't know why people keep debating whether they would confront someone following them with a gun. The question is would you confront someone following you if you didn't know they carried a weapon? I would.

What autopsy reports did you read? The reports I read (the PDFs of the actual reports released by MSNBC a month or so ago) had the DNA evidence saying Zimmerman's blood was on Treyvons shirt, and vice versa.

And we know that Treyvon started the fight because of the injuries. If Zimmerman started the fight, why are Treyvon's only injuries the gunshot wound and a small cut on his knuckles? To me, those injuries indicate that Treyvon threw the first (and perhaps only) punch and Zimmerman responded by shooting him.

PS, my son has THREE passports. He lives in China, near Hong Kong, and every time he goes to Hong Kong, they stamp his passport. That and corroborating evidence, both concrete and circumstantial. The point here is not whether Zimmerman killed Martin, but rather why and what precipitated the course of events. We don't know if Martin attacked Zimmerman or whether he was provoked to do so if he did. We don't know if Zimmerman stopped following Martin when asked. There's a great deal in Zimmerman's account of what went down that has holes in it, leading the investigating officer at the scene to call for an arrest because he thought Zimmerman's accounting didn't add up...etc etc. etc...

What we do know for certain is that it was Zimmerman's actions that precipitated the entire situation and that until Martin's alleged assault on Zimmerman, Martin was doing nothing to provoke Zimmerman's actions.

My stand is that Zimmerman should stand accountable for having been the instigator of events that resulted in Martin's death. He was wrong is his assessments and was inept in his actions as a self assumed neighborhood watchman (being armed for instance) from the outset and then acted on those false assessments.

It is in that light, that I see Zimmerman as guilty of manslaughter if nothing else.

His father was not out "painting the town" as you put it, he went to dinner with his girl friend some time before 7pm.

If he returned home at 9 or 10 (not late as you suggest), everything would be gone that might attract his attention because e would have arrived on the other side of the building and from a different direction from where the hooting took place. He wasn't concerned to find Trayvon not home because Trayvon had said that he might go to a movie while they were gone. He went to bed and only noticed Trayvon hadn't returned home in the morning which is when he started looking for him and calling the police.

Just because you think Trayvon was an out of control thug needing constant supervision (and yet you didn't know the boy at all), doesn't mean Trayvon's father who knew the boy saw him that way. Read the transcript of his call to the police. In fact if you can print it out, and watch the video made the next day, where Zimmerman himself tells how it happened. Try and match the call (which we know is correct), to his version of what happened. It doesn't match up. Also look at what he said happened. Picture in your mind him on the ground, and someone on him. The way he says that TM tried to grab his gun (which up till then he forgot he had), and the way he says he (GZ) did reach for it, would be very hard, if not near imposible to do.

I am glad this video was done the very next day, and not months later.

Cas....I believe this is why the prosecutor charged Z with murder instead of manslaughter.

Casreader - There is a pretty detailed breakdown of the 911 call and his re-enactment. While they are tight they do indeed match up in time and locations and you can even hear where he puts his truck in reverse and then drive which must be when he leaves the clubhouse because it is after Trayvon passed him according to the NEN call. . Nothing he said so far do I see as being "disproved" and that is what needs to happen here. Everyone saying "I think he is lying", etc doesn't matter. It's what you can prove not what you want to believe.

Also if Trayvon is down below his waist straddling his legs for instance there is nothing hard or impossible about trying to go for his gun. Plus Trayvon could be moving and have raised his leg exposing that one side. Everyone here is trying to dissect this and making statements about how hard or impossible it could be when the reality is it is not that hard and since no one was there we have to go by his statements and the witnesses who saw this. Plus do not forget he passed the lie detector test too regarding all of this.

First, I listened to the initial full tape without editing. Then the edited tape. The editing while inappropriate, did not alter the actual facts in any way.

It was not a 911 line, true. That means that Zimmerman was actually talking to the police and not a 3rd party 911 operator. Also the police did not 'suggest" that he not follow Martin...the line was "We don't need you to do that"... "We" being the police...they were explicitly telling him to desist because police were already on the way. In fact, they arrived within a minute after the shooting.

All the rest of your post is pure speculation.

It really does not matter what things Trayvon did in his life prior to being murder by GZ. He was a 17 yr. old kid, they all make mistakes, or do you want to disregard his life worth because he was a black teen boy.

People want to make this Trayvon fault, as if GZ is the victim, by saying Tryvon made some bad decision in the 17 “long” years of his life.
