Police are investigating the shooting of two teenage girls in a small Texas community along the Gulf of Mexico. KRIS reporter Lindsay Curtis has the story.
Two teenage girls in a relationship were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a south Texas park, with one of them dying from her injuries, media reports say. Police were searching for their assailants.
Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Christine Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a nature area in Portland by a couple Saturday, said Portland Police Chief Randy Wright, who confirmed to msnbc.com details first reported by the Corpus Christi Caller Times.
Olgin, originally from Ingleside but recently living in Corpus Christi, died; Chapa, of Sinton, was rushed to a hospital where she had surgery and was in serious but stable condition on Sunday, local NBC affiliate kristv.com reported. Wright said Chapa was still in the hospital on Monday.
Friends told kristv.com that the girls had been together five months. Wright said he didn’t have any information about their relationship, noting that “we understood from their friends that they were (in a romantic relationship). I know from … Mollie’s parents that they were very close.”
When asked if police had been able to determine if the girls' sexuality played any role in the shootings, Wright told msnbc.com: “That’s always something that we’re looking for, but as of this point, we have not been able to establish that that had anything to do with the attack.”
He said they had been in communication with Chapa. He noted all indications were that “third parties” were involved in the assault.
“If we had a name, you know, we’d be having a different conversation right now. But we have not been able to gather enough information to identify a suspect yet,” he said. “It appears as if … this was not just a random attack but that’s something that we really have to develop over time.”
Wright said police had recovered a bullet casing from a large-caliber gun at the scene, but they haven’t found the weapon. A resident living nearby reported hearing two loud bangs Friday before midnight but believed they were from firecrackers, the newspaper said.
The park, more of nature area with some parts overgrown and no lights, was generally frequented by visitors during the day. It is located along a bluff overlooking a bay, Wright said, with some homes situated nearby.
“We’re not really sure how they got to the point that they were found,” he said of the girls. “It is a scenic overlook with a wooden deck and there is a place at the edge of the deck where you can actually go down a very steep incline into a grassy area that leads down to the shoreline and that’s where they found.”
Friends of the girls gathered at a local high school on Sunday. Olgin's roommate, Samantha Garrett, told kristv.com that the fun-loving couple hadn’t gotten any negative responses to their relationship and could not think of why anyone would want to harm them.
The crime rate is low in Portland, a bedroom community of Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico, Wright said. The last homicide occurred two years ago.

this happened in Texas? shocking.
thoughts go out to the families of these young girls.
To all you IGNORANT TEXAS HATERS:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2011-07-31-LGBT-violence-lesbian-gay-transgender-bisexual-survey_n.htm
Crimes against LGBT community are up, despite social gains
I am 63, lived here all my life, straight and my name is Bubba. I have a Sister-in-law that is Gay as well as several friends. Your ignorance is pathetic.
Terrible, two young women murdered. Two families and many friends will be hurting.
WTF does the fact that they were lesbians have to do with this murder at this point? When and if it is discovered that some crazy ahole murdered them for being gay then please sentence that person accordingly. Until then, two young women were murdered for no apparent reason.
There are too many people that like to bash others and MSNBC gives them ample opportunities to do so. Who should we bash? Texas, gays, homophobes?????
Why do the people that complain most about stereotyping stereotype the most?
Uh, no. One of them was murdered. The other one is in serious condition.
Hey, "big" picture, why don't you use your "big" mouth to:
1. Explain your inane remark about Texas.
2. Tell us what wonderful state it is that you live in, that has no shootings.
I would say that this incident "just happened" to have occurred in Texas. It could have been any state in the union.
Texas?
It is an American thing!
Has a vindictive lesbian been ruled out?
In all fairness to Texas....
Every large city in Texas was BLUE in 2008. Yep. Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, El Paso, Austin all went for Obama in 2008.
..but there are a lot of trailer parks in West Texas.
sam - so you must be saying the shooter was a democrat? See how stupid some flip-floppers can look.
Until then, two young women were murdered for no apparent reason.
Correlation sometimes is causation though...
If that was the case, just so senseless. Those killed because of those they love is one of the oldest tragedies known.
To aboutthat, I understand your anger. Even before I or anyone else realized that I ws gay I was distrusted by a lot of my family in the Midwest because I was born and raised in California. WE get the other end of the spectrum hate.
The Confederacy got permanently branded racist and uneducated probably due to the fact that those states were better suited for agriculture than they were industry in 18th and 19th centuries thus the slavery in a pre-industrial world. People, especially as a culture, change slowly. As a fellow Texan, Dr. Phil, has stated many times, "It takes a million Atta Boys to erase one negative." It takes time and you standing up and supporting your sister is one of the most powerful tools for change, acceptance for all peoples and the advancement of civilization.
If, indeed, this turns out to be a hate crime, that they were targeted because they were gay, I hope that the legal system and the community stand for these young girls and demand the absolute maximum penalty for those who did such an evil act. We as Americans have lived in ignorance nurtured by fear for too long and desperately need to reclaim our humanity before it is too late. That includes fear of recognizing that hate and bigotry isn't confined to one geograpic area or another. Other than being a bit strong on the anger I don't see anything wrong with your post and don't feel it should have been collapsed.
My condolences to Mollies family and friends as well as my sincerest wishes for a full and speedy, as far as injuries of this sort go, recovery for Mary.
JH,
Except for the "2 murdered" (one dead, one critical, at least at this point), you are right on the mark.
Irresponsible journalism/editor to play such an obvious, albeit flawed, game of connect the dots. I see the same thing when I read Fox (except they typically have a story about something in a CA public school).
Two young ladies were shot with no currently known motive, but I guess that fact is not enough to sale the ads.
At this point there is no motive, and no killer.
If this was done as an act of bigotry filled violence, then when that comes to light go nuts castigating the monster that did it.
But no one knows why these girls were shot at this point. This could be revenge from someone they knew that has nothing to do with their sexuality. It could be a random burglary gone bag. It could be some complete psychopath that just killed them for the heck of it because they were there.
So that doesn't lead to making broad assumptions about all Texans and bigotry.
It could have been a jilted lesbian lover from a previous relationship. You know what they say there's no wrath like a woman scorned.
Panhead:
You picked the worst possible moment for that quip I am afraid, despite the remote possibility it could be fact. Let the CSI do their work first, please. Let's show some respect for their loved ones and hold off on this bit, and let's hope (or in my case pray) Ms Chapa survives.
May Ms. Olgin Rest In Peace.
They are making a point to mention it because it is possible motivation and they are following that lead. Just like when a married person winds up dead in their own home the police have to look at the spouse and mention the health of the marriage at that point in time. They go for the most obvious lead first. It's called being a detective.
The press asks for leads. The cops don't need to tell anything to the press. They do so in hopes that it will open the door for witnesses or someone else with info to come forward if any of the details rings a bell. This is there lead right now so don't blame the cops for simply telling the press what they know at this point.
calm down spider. sorry, but aside from the major cities that are blue (populated by a LOT of out of state college students and transfers to a booming economy) texas has a reputation for being extreme red, against the government and religious. So, I would assume (yes, I shouldn't but I did) a lot of middle aged true texans don't like gay people. I am sure there some that are. IF you took a poll, who do you think has more tolerence for the LBGT community? MA or TX? I am not ignorant. I simply believe there is a more ignorant part of the country to the LBGT community, and it happens to be the socially red (texas).
and to whomever commented with the stats in other cities - FYI thats based on a number of agencies that report. There are waaay more agencies reporting hate crimes in NYC, then in the entire state of texas. You can always find a statistic to support your side.
Unless some good 'ole boy was staked out at the park waiting for a couple of homos to come along so he could shoot them AND there is also a very high concentration of gays in the city, the hate crime thing seems unlikely. Possible? Yes. But a lot of factors would need to line up in order for that to be the case.
This was more than likely someone that knew them. Maybe someone that knew them had been following them and is either a bigot or a jealous lover. But I definitely don't think it was just a random hate crime by a random prejudiced Southerner.
So, when a face-eating cannibal is killed in Florida, Florida is full of nuts and when a gay couple are shot and one is killed in Texas, then of course the bigots and dimbulbs have to come out against Texas. Pfft. As to the tragedy, no one knows the motivation, that area is a tourist destination and lots of people come and go. So sad and unnecessary, tragedy has no boundaries. My condolences to the victims and their families.
Big Picture: do you live in Texas? Think you might want to rethink your prejudice and biases. I live in Texas and in our little community there are lots of gay men and women, openly gay, and no one gives a rat's a$$ about their sexual orientation.
I used to like Texas but than they sent that little shrub up here and I knew that they really hate the rest of the country. Please Texas Don't send us anymore presidents.
The west Texas trailer park remark is a bit geographically off. Portland is the city just north of Corpus Christi on the gulf of Mexico. Probably went for Obama because of high hispanic population. It would make more sense if some of you picked up a map before you stated to show us how really dumb y'all are.
Big picture you don't know a dang thing about Texas. Portland is a gulf coast city. The old people that hang around in Texas all winter are your freaking grandparents. We politly call them winter Texans and at other times snowbirds when the chamber of commerce can't hear us.
Life is worth protecting no matter what. Only arrogance would take life or impose its will. Sad when people become blinded by their own righteousness.
"Unless some good 'ole boy was staked out at the park waiting for a couple of homos to come along so he could shoot them AND there is also a very high concentration of gays in the city, the hate crime thing seems unlikely."
Actually, stalking gay hang outs to ambush them is an age-old tradition. Am I calling hate crime prematurely? No. Let the police work and the evidence lead where it may. Would hate crime in this case surprise me even slightly? Hell no. It happens frequently.
I agree, but MSNBC likes the shock value it adds to the news title, and it's true so there isn't that much embarassment should it turn out to have nothing to do with their sexual preferences.
Stupid remark by the bigpicture. Hate crimes occur in every state in the Union, and, if I remember correctly, Houston recently had an openly lesbian mayor.
aboutthat, did your Momma really name you Bubba?
That does sound somewhat Texan, to me. lol.
Lolly, the fact is you have no idea who did this or what is most likely. There is no lead either at this point, only speculation even by the police. Can't tell from the picture if boh girls are white, but if they are should we assume that a white hating person did this?
Wow. In Texas. Shocking.
I wonder how proud the right-wing is for perpetuating the hatred people have for gays and lesbians.
This sort of thing is sickening.
Jean Rennais is Correct: Texas??? It IS An AMERICAN Thing. Face it Brother and Sister American, Our Country America, is Now A very violent and Dangerous Country under Brutal Police State Conduction. The 1-5%er and Corporate Evil Rich need a Police state controlled society of Violent psychopaths to fill the armed forces for future profitable wars where ever they are created. After the Job Market and American Industries are eliminated, and to To temper peoples frustrations about No Jobs or Future societal sharing rolls, let them turn on each other to Vent; as We Have Not seen an end to this terrible depression they put the world into. One way or another A New American Revolution is Coming just as the French found change in 1789.
NO! It is MORE likely! When people want to commit Hate Crimes against gays and lesbians, they go to places where there are large numbers of them...
...think about it. When you go hunting or fishing, do you go to a place where there are many elk (or many fish), or very few? In my more than 30 years of police work, the hate crimes against gays occurred in the gay-community areas of the city. The Religious Reich rednecks always went to the gay communities looking for trouble, because that was the easist way for them to find their prey. And when you attack them in their own communities, it strikes the greatest amount of fear in the whole community when one of their own is assaulted or killed -- which, if you understand Hate Crimes, is one of the primary goals of the perpetrators committing these types of Crimes.
I can only imagine all the Religious Reich hate-mongers today, thinking/saying "serves them right" -- just because these two women are gay and a couple. What a sad, but unfortunately accurate testament to mainstream religion values in this country...
My thoughts and hopes to them both and their families. Another sad, sad day, underscored by a flurry of hatred in this country.
Texas, most Muslim state in the union?
I thought it was Arizona!
Good God fearin folks. Afraid of lesbians and the boogey man too.
Over the years i have known many who spoke out against religion. In the same time frame many of these same people when they know they are about to take their last breath ask to be saved and forgiven...Just to cover the bases you know....lol You know , just in case there really is a God. Not so sure of themslves when they are facing the end.
looooong - Real Christians don't murder.
cheetah - there is no fear. That is a LGBT community myth to demonize ANYONE who disagrees with them.
Any parent understands that when a child behaves like this that they are doing something Wrong. They have made a conscious decision to do what ever they please regardless whether it will hurt themselves or not. The concept is to bully your way into getting what you want.
BTW: I would say similar things to those who shot these kids.
too bad these two misguided kids didnt focus on school and instead focused on being hipster lesbians. apple just lost two customers.
Funny how reading these posts how intolerant the "tolerant" libs are. Funny how they can say the most vile and disgusting thing about Texas, Conservatives, Republicans or Christians, yet will raise holy Hell if you were to say the same about them.
For example: Hey Sam, if you are saying West Texas has too many trailer parks, does that mean that it's okay to infer that Dallas, Houston and the major cities have too many welfare cases living in ghettos and slums because of their voting record? And Loooong, since you feel it's okay to refer to Christians as American Taliban and spineless cowards, does that make it okay for me to refer the Godless Lefties, like you, as racists and anti Christians? Would you feel it's okay to be characterized as a hate filled mongrel because of your statements to others? Would this be okay with you? No, of course not, but yet you are demonstrating these qualities and would scream to the heavens if the roles were reversed.
Now, go ahead and tear this to shreds. Call me a hypocrite because I am upset at the level of vitriol leveled at Conservatives by Libs with absolutely no condemnation for it, while the reverse is almost never true.
Cheetah-
Hmm. I live in Texas. I'm more right than left. I am part of that "God fearin' folk". I will never treat a homosexual person like they are beneath me. I love everyone. One of my best friends is gay, and my boyfriend (who's quite religious, actually) is contemplating donating sperm to a lesbian girl he's known since he was a kid. A lot of Christians are accepting of gays, actually. Not most, but a lot.
One young woman murdered and another near death who just happen to be lesbian.
Let the detectives investigate and find the killer. Then we will be privy to the motive.
Many of the posts on the side of the girls reek of hate too!
And they talk as if they are better than everyone else.
NOT
Uncle Henry wrote, "too bad these two misguided kids didnt focus on school and instead focused on being hipster lesbians. apple just lost two customers."
Wow. There's cold, and then there's that. What the hell, man? I strongly suspect both you and society would be better served if you were institutionalized, 'cause that display of antisocial disorder was off the charts.
Uncle Henry-
That is an idiotic post. They could be in college, with a 4.0 and you wouldn't know. But yet, here you are, running your mouth like you know. How do you know they're "hipster"? Or that they like apple products?
Just spewing out the bs because they were lesbians. How sad. Are you a Christian? I'd suggest LOVING more, and HATING less. :)
Uncle Henry is the poster child for arrogant ignorance.
Its okay. Uncle Henry holds onto a 2000 year old book and uses it as an excuse to misbehave. Or a flag. We know the type.
I love when people think Apple is associated with a political movement. Did you hear? So is cheese and WHINE!
Well I hold onto a 2000 year old book, and use it as an excuse to be kind to everyone I meet. It reminds me that it is not MY place to judge people (I admit, sometimes I do judge anyway, but I try not to). It convinces me to be friends with the friendless, and help those in need (not necessarily monetarily, but helping the girl on the side of the road with a flat tire, or volunteering at a homeless shelter). It taught me that LOVE is always better than HATE. That everyone gets second chances.
Why is it that everyone can read the same book, and the outcome of it on the person themselves is vastly different?
I guess it is because you actually read that book Jessicalc, instead of just saying you did.
How many jealous young lesbian lovers have access to a large caliber (presumably handgun) weapon even in Texas? It is possible. but more likely the contemptible ass is some holier than thou right-wing gun nut hell bent on preserving his world view. With this case I'm in favor of the Texas capital punishment record and hope it's applied fairly. Self-defense defense?
Texas? Isn't that the last place a U.S. president was murdered?
whomever made the remark about two white girls---Chapa is most probably a spanish name-why doest race have to play a factor in just about every story-Im so over this racist crap
bob, you have christians actively calling for the extermination of gays, (Arizona), christians calling for gays to be rounded up and fenced off to die (NC), , christians calling for a takeover of every facet of american life (new apostolic reformation) , etc.
no this is not by any means all christians, the term "christian" covers everything from unitarians to amish to snake-charming baptists. but the ones that rightly deserve derision are those that on one hand call for the enshrinement of their religion into us law, and on the other are the most ardent supporters of the most brutal version of social and economic darwinism
Derek-
Unfortunately, I haven't read the whole thing. :( I wasn't raised going to church (my parents raised me that you don't need a 'church' to have a relationship with God), and all the ones I went to when I was a "child" (I'm only 21) I hated. They were hateful, and even at age 10 I could tell they were wrong. I'm lucky enough now to have found a really good one, one that talks about love and acceptance rather than humiliation and judgement. I'm also lucky that I have a good man who HAS read it, to help me understand. From what I have read though, all of it advocates what I was talking about. The hateful, condemning Christians are an embarrassment, and full of hypocrisy. Sad.
Rick-
What does that have to do with anything?
Seewhat I mean:
I know, right?
The world thinks the Americans hate them ...
Little do they know that Americans are so busy hating each other that they do not have the time to hate anybody else....
WTF is going on with you people up in this thread ?
Are you guys really from the same @!$%#ing country ?
Jessicalc
Unfortunately the sad reality is that "Christians" like you are a rare breed. Just look at the events of the past year...
We had a Republican debate, full of "good Christian Republicans" mock and "boo" a solider on live TV, just because he was gay. These so-called "good Christians" refused to show any respect to a soldier, fighting for our freedom, putting his life on the line... instead they mocked him, all while championing the Christian Republican banner.
We had a "Christian" primary candidate claim that homosexual teenagers are "barbarians"... and the Republican, Christian majority cheered.
We had a "Christian" pastor quote Biblical scripture that said to KILL homosexuals... then tried to back-track by saying that he didn't mean it literally.
We had another "Christian" pastor say that all homosexuals should be put into an electrified cage where we can air-drop them food... and eventually they will die off.
THIS is what modern day Christianity is. THIS is who modern Christians are. THIS is what modern Christians believe. They are full of hate, evil, intolerance, and venom.
There may be a few good Christians, like yourself, that actually embrace the message of "love" that Jesus taught... but you are a very, VERY small minority. Your voice is being drowned out by the growing, hateful mob that calls themselves "Christian". THAT is the world we live in. THAT is reality.
So, although I find hope in the few of you that do not follow the majority of Christians... I have little faith that your viewpoint will be widely adopted. I see modern Christians going further down the path of extremism, becoming ever more consumed by the hatred in their hearts. It is a sad fate for a religion that was founded on good intentions.
JimP1969 Comment collapsed by the community
Hey Jimbo, Teddy Roosevelt's liberal was today's conservative. So that means your little quote is technically wrong. It should be
To anger a conservative, tell him the truth. To anger a liberal, lie to him.
mguy-
Your post makes me so sad. I know some guys who feel like what you described above, but don't hate gays because of religion, but because they think it's 'disgusting' (but are weirdly okay with lesbians). They have learned not to discuss that with me. I get pretty protective and defensive when people act like that. My father used to be one of them. But I brought my friend home with me a few years ago, and showed my dad that he was a good man, and being gay doesn't change that. I was raised to value honor above all else, and being gay isn't dishonorable. It didn't take long for my dad to come around, and just last weekend he asked how my friend was doing, and made it clear that he is ALWAYS welcome in my fathers home, and that my dad misses him a bunch. :) I hope these people can have a similar experience.
I hope other Christians can look at what I've said above, and maybe it will wake them up. Remember, God knows what's in your heart...you need to take a good look at it yourself, and try to determine whether your heart is controlled by love or hate.
Phil-3222496 There is a big difference between hateful words towards bigots, and actually pulling out a gun and shooting 2 people in the head.
If you can't see the difference there, then that's your problem, not everyone elses.
Jessica
I didn't mean to make you sad, just to point out reality. It is a reality that I had to face myself, being a former Christian. I was also raised in a strictly religious household, yet my parents also valued higher education... and with higher education comes a greater understanding of life, along with questions directed towards religion. It was not until I studied the physiological chemicals that cause the emotion we call "attraction", that I realized homosexuality was not a choice... as we have no conscious control over physiological chemical release (dopamine and serotonin), and no control means no choice. This was the first step in questioning a religion I was raised to believe in. This led to a more in depth study of the history of said religion, and the overwhelming influence that man had on the Bible... which I won't get into here.
Overall, I sincerely hope that more Christians come to the realization that you have. I honestly wish that your viewpoint would spread. Unfortunately, the reality is that I do not believe this will occur anytime soon. With an entire political party devoted to condemning homosexuality, to pushing their hateful, extremist viewpoint... I don't foresee a shift in behavior or belief. Let's hope I am wrong.
mguy-
It's okay, I know you didn't. I see it, too. It is reality, which reality, actually, makes me sad. On the plus side, a few weeks ago the church I attend did a sermon on the way Christians act today, and how it is wrong. I'm hoping more churches like mine get popular.
Oh, and trust me, I know that man had a lot to do with the bible. I struggle with faith a lot, and that has a lot to do with it. Personally, I'm going to live a good life and have good intentions with everything that I do. I guess I'll find out in the end if that was good enough and right.
I've never believed that being homosexual was a choice, and befriending one only confirmed it. I wish these people would take the time to get to know, and understand homosexuals, instead of shunning them. It is very interesting that you studied physiological chemicals. Perhaps if this information were more well-known, it would convince others.
I feel really weird saying this, as it shouldn't be something that needs to be said, but I want to thank you for being a good person. It's rare to find one now-a-days, especially on here.
Jessica
I've tried... but as you know, anytime science contradicts a previously held religious belief, most religious people turn their ears off and refuse to listen.
It's actually a simple concept. The feeling of attraction is the result of dopamine and serotonin being released in your brain, triggered by an external stimuli. So characteristics you find attractive... like white guys, or black guys, tall, or short, skinny, muscular, hairy, bald, dark hair, blonde, funny, brooding, nice, tough, athletic, vampires, whatever... these are all things that trigger those chemicals to be released.
Homosexuals are no different, only they experience that same release of chemicals when they interact with someone of the same sex... obviously coupled with the other factors, like tall, or short, skinny, muscular, etc. It all comes down to what external factors (looks, personality, gender) trigger the physiological release of those chemicals in our brain.
So when you hear a friend say: "I just don't know what it is, but there is something about him." Or: "Why am I always attracted to jerks?"... it's because they are experiencing that chemical release, and they don't know why.
I know, it's not very romantic. Kinda kills the "love at first sight" idea when you look at the chemical part of it. But that's how it works.
When someone says that being gay is a choice, ask if they made a choice to be attracted to skinny girls, or red heads, or athletic guys, or whatever they may fancy. Most people recognize that their own attraction quirks are not a choice... it's just what they find attractive. Homosexuality works the same way.
Hopefully this gives you, and other people, a better understanding of how it works. Like you said, if more people got to know homosexuals, and understand how attraction really works, minds might actually change.
Oh... and you are a good person too. You have partially restored my faith in humanity and some Christians.
what's funny is the ones that are so ardently defending Texas are also usually the ones that make all kinds of derisive comments about California
they can dish it out, but they sure can't take it
Jessicalc: The problem is that people who claim to be Christian hold so much hate in their hearts that there's no room for Jesus or his teaching, yet they still quote verses of the Bible that Jesus told them they no longer have to adhere to. (For example some of the laws in Leviticus, just prior to the homosexuality one is one about owning slaves, then there's one about selling your daughter into prostitution, and the ever popular stoning aldulterers. Because Jesus came, we don't have to have blood sacrifices or burnt offerings. Yet they dig deep into that book and find one verse out of thousands to justify their hatered. I don't know about you, but I'm straight, and I have many, many dear friends who are gay, including 2 in my own family. It just breaks my heart to hear about the possibility that these two women may have been attacked because they were together.
This murder is tragic just like ANY murder. Im very disappointed in MSNBC and a lot of other news stations that put words in the headline JUST to get more media coverage when the officer directly stated that their sexuality had not been linked. Why not just label it as Teen Couple instead of throwing lesbian in there? What if one were white and one were black? Society gripes so much about prejeduce but then the media is free to do things like this and stir up unnecessary emotions when there isn't even proof that is why they were shot. For all we know, they could have walked up on a drug deal. It doesn't matter where they were, who they were, what color they were, or what sex they were. It was a tragic murder not yet solved. Leave it at that and SHAME ON YOU MSNBC!
Cool it with religion and politics. 2 young people were shot in the head. 1 of them died as a result and the other is in critical condition and though seeming to recover, will probably be scarred and scared for a very long time. she is very brave and she seems really sad, luckily she has a very supportive father and friends to help. the other young girl is no more. this was senseless and horrible. whoever did it, whatever the motive, 2 kids- or young adults, whatever- 2 human beings who had so much to look forward to in life, were MURDERED. it was clearly not an accident i can't believe anyone would suggest that, the police are sure it wasn't- i mean come on now, SHOT IN THE HEAD, both of them, some accident...they were together as a couple hanging out probably holding hands or something of the sort at the time...it has hate crime written all over it...scorned lover phenomenon is NOT as common as people think. whoever did this meant to make some point, whatever it was. statistcally, it was most likely a male, and by the evidence it was done at close enough range for them to get a clear shot and yet far enough range for them to get away really fast...there was a car, the color of it has been noted, and neighbors heard would sounded like gun shots. and the girls were left for dead. chapa is having some difficulty with speech but doing her best. it is dang obvious they didn't do it to each other how anyone could think that is beyond me. the fact is...these were 2 people, human beings, who could have been your high school/college age kids or grandchildren or friends or nieces, who were murdered. there has been ZERO evidence to indicate the were or had been involved with any sort of gang or drug. one had just graduated from high school with a 3.7 GPA and the other was in her 2nd year at a pretty good university- doesn't have the whole "kids on the street" thing written on it to me. BUT even if they were- what does it matter? I am SO tired of this "Good kid" vs. "Bad kid" thing we have going on in society...if he/she was a "good" kid then it's sad they are gone, if they were a "bad" kid then too bad they should have been better....NO NO NO this sort of murder is NEVER acceptable it is evil it is wrong, it is not for you to just go up and shoot someone because you they are being bad, or don't like something about them, or they really are being bad- that is why we have a justice system! and i hope the justice system will do justice and find who did it! all my love and good thoughts to the friends and families and to the young lady, may she recover. look the reason they put that it is 2 lesbian teenagers is because it is sadder when young people die from getting shot in the head than when they are 100 in their beds of old age and natural causes and because it was possibly motivated by the fact they were lesbian- if not hate crime then the whole spurned lover thing everyone seems to like which seems crazy to me, but could be- and because it really does look like they were killed for being lesbian. we don't know but it isn't every day that you find everyone saying they have no idea who on earth would want to do something like that- all the friends and families- and there is a young gay couple- who winds up murdered while it seemed like they were on a DATE together in a secluded location probably for privacy so nobody would bother them for being who they were, whether you agree with who they were or not. kids/young adults have been going to the parks to make out after dark since forever. now, it does get suspicious that they were presumably dragged or carried down that steep incline, which definitely indicates pre-meditated murder as the police officers are noting among many other facts. someone really thought about this whether it was way in advance or not, just heard they were going to be at that particular park...in a small town out in a secluded place, better place for the murder(s) to not get caught than in the public, and at night--- who knows, it could be someone they knew, or someone they didn't, but the whole point of my rant is:
forget your beliefs about gay or lesbian.
forget the religious stuff.
forget the politics.
i think we can all agree that this is a VERY sad thing that should have never happened, and that we hope whoever did it is found and brought to justice, and that the young lady who survived heals with time both physically and emotionally, and that our hearts go out to their moms and dads and brothers and sisters and grandmas and grandpas and cousins and friends and so on so on heal, and that hopefully these kinds of things will stop happening.
Obviously Ms. Garrett doesn't know many Texans.
Obviously, neither do you. Texas has it's share of right-wing nuts, but it's no better or worse than any mid-western or southern state. There are plenty of jerks living here, but there are plenty of good, tolerant, loving people here too.
Unfortunately, violence targeting specific people because of their race, religion, sexual preference, etc happens everywhere there are humans. I don't know why tolerance is so difficult for some. It's a part of the scripture of every major religion. I don't understand how the message gets garbled so badly, and has for so long.
@William...
Adding to what phe said:
I live in Houston and we had our annual Gay Pride Festival and Parade this past weekend. It's the largest in the Southwest and between 300,000 and 400,000 people attended.
Them being lesbian gives a possible motive but it is a senseless crime no matter what. The location is irrelevant.. Texas is like any other state in the Union, and as another poster pointed out, violence against gays is up in other more "liberal" states. Also since the judge and jury is on the vine, (and the call us conservative narrow minded and hate filled), The evidence is not out yet and I would not be surprised that it was Gay on Gay crime or some one with a anti-gay bent who has a history of mental illness. (my guess is as good as anyone but I'm not going to "bash" a whole state or political party)
Here is a link about Gay on Gay violence from a pro gay source:

You wrote: I don't know why tolerance is so difficult for some. It's a part of the scripture of every major religion. I don't understand how the message gets garbled so badly, and has for so long.
I actually believe that I have the answer to that. It's because "hate" sells.
The self-righteous ones use hate in their speech to rile people up to support their supposed non-profits. They use it for financial gain and in the case of public office, they use it for votes. The root of hate can be found in money and political power, because people have been profiting off of their calls for intolerance for centuries. If you don't believe me, go sit in a church in any southern state and listen to the sickening twisted translations of their so-called bibles.
There are evangelists out there who would round up all gay people and put them inside an electrified fence. There are others who get joy out of picketing the funerals of our own fallen military soldiers, gay or straight, claiming they are there to protest because of the gradually progressing march towards equal rights for gay people. And yes, then there are the outright lunatics and hypocrites who yell and scream about the erosion of the American Family, while simultaneously having anonymous gay sex in airport bathrooms.
Think about it for a moment. If someone hates someone else because of who they are, then why don't they do it privately? What possible benefit is it to them to expand on the hate by committing murder? And if they really did feel as if there is such a benefit, then why not commit the murder, call the police, wait for them to arrive, and admit to having done it? Is there some fear they felt about standing up, manning-up and taking responsibility for the act? And if the victims were supposed to be killed in the name of God, then why not be open about it and take credit for eliminating more gay people from the planet?
I predict that if the crime is solved (and that's a BIG IF) that hate will be the underlying cause and the prosecutor will decline a hate crime enhancement to the charges, claiming hate cannot be proven.
And so, to the murderer, I hope you feel better now. You got the chance to get it all out of your system. You were deeply troubled to see two budding youngsters just starting out in life, who had found each other and were happy. It killed you inside to see someone you'd probably love to have had sex with be disinterested in you. You were offended when that happened, weren't you. You couldn't stand it that they didn't want you. So you fixed them. You fixed them good. Stand up and take a bow, you filthy coward.
True, people get shot and killed in non-hate related incidents every day of the week. However, this happened in a remote field with the victims being targeted and shot with the intentions of killing. One person with a gun shot two lesbians.
Prove me wrong. Show me that hate was not the underlying reason.
Oh, no - it's not ANYTHING to do with Texas. The fact that Texas has more people on Death Row than any other state is completely, 100%, mostly coincidental. Somewhat. A bit. Most of the time. Sorta.
Honest!
@Robert...
....The root of hate is not money. The root of hate is religion. All hatred and intolerance is rooted in religion. No religion can exist without teaching its member to exclude all others who are different. They don't just teach exclusion, they teach that those who are excluded are destined to burn in "hell" or whatever which makes those people both excluded AND subhuman and not worthy of any consideration. Now understand, that's just for not believing as they do!! If you're REALLY different?... well they feel justified in murder at the drop of a hat. Do not let any person who goes to church tell you any different. If you walk in the doors of a church anywhere in the world even once a year you are supporting the most vile and vicious form of evil that has ever existed on this Earth. The human delusion that we have no responsibility for our actions...that everything happens according to the will of "god" is the most perverted form of insanity any of us will ever witness. Religion MUST become extinct before the human race has any chance of growing out of its infancy.
ex lesbian girlfriend, or possibly exboyfriend. female serial killer, the list goes on. And if you remember the last shooter of the congerswoman was a liberal. So hey, liberals carry guns too, who knew!
I thought Gay on Gay Violence was called Sodomy?
... I know, I know, TERRIBLE joke. But you totally set me up for it. The general idea is that Texas hates anything that isn't straight and white. I do not live in Texas, but the mass majority of posters from there, most of the crazy anti-gay stuff, all happens in Texas, or a deep South state. I think it's wonderful that they have Pride Parades there... but for the millions of other people in Texas, I'm just not seeing this "love and tolerance". Texas has Steers, not Ponies.
While I am quick to poke fun at Texans, truth is that there are crazies and haters in every state, Texas has no monopoly on nuts. I would agree that Texas seems to be one of the states that encourages gun violence, but it happens in all states, territories and countries, so it does not seem to matter where you are, there are hateful nuts everywhere and many carry and use guns.
While y'all are quick to judge, none of you know a damn thing about Portland, Texas or Mollie and Kristene.
Mollie was my friend. She had a beautiful personality to go along with her beautiful face. She was silly. She was funny. She would hit on EVERYONE with cheesy pick up lines. She'd tell me, "You have a breathtaking heiney, may I be friends with it?" She hugged you like you were her lover. And she had an infectious laugh.
Portland, Texas is an accepting town. I can't even begin to tell you how many gay kids I went to school with who were never targeted like this. Sure, they didn't get much support from the large Christian community there, but they weren't bullied either. The whole town basically had the mindset of: Oh, you're gay? Okay. Whatever. Want to go to Whataburger? I mean, there's a gay club in Corpus, for Christ's sake! Portland is - or was - a safe community. In fact, I know exactly where Mollie and Kristene were shot, and it's notorious for being safe.
I decorated Violet Andrews park in rainbow to show our support for not only Mollie, but Kristene. And not just them, but the gay community.
In short, Texans don't go out and shoot gay kids, TEENAGE lesbians who were enjoying their THREE MONTH ANNIVERSARY. Not in Portland, Texas. Not in my hometown.
But either way, I lost a wonderful friend Saturday morning. I'm praying that Kristene will get well soon, and that we find the sorry bastards who did this to them.
@Sunshine. Very sorry for your loss, and I hope the killer is found and prosecuted to the fullest extent.
Sunshine
Well said. I am sorry for the loss of this young lady. I hope her friend gets well soon.
Rest in Peace Mollie and I pray for recovery for Mary. I sincerely hope they find the monster who did this.
I agree SpyderGirl. Speedy recovery Mary and so sorry for your loss. I hope you and Mollie's families find peace with time. R.I.P. Mollie
Who in their right might would want to shoot a gun at a couple of lesbians? Shoot some film maybe.
Billy, as a lesbian myself, I find the last part of your comment in poor taste.
Tragically, I'd bet money that the fascist christ-crispie who did this in the name of his filthy patriarkal desert god probably spends a lot of time trolling for "lesbian" porn...
May his penis and testicles shrivel, rot and fall to the ground - to be eaten by slugs...and that's only the least of which this piece of sub-human s**t deserves...
jeanne...did you mis the part where they said they didn't know if the shootings were sexuallity motivated?
Really Jeanne?! and you found SillyBilly's comment in poor taste?
Jeane sounds just a wee bit pissed off this morning. Jeane, murders happen every day. i'm not making light of this shooting, but just saying that murder as a general rule, isn't religious based. Unless it's war you're talking about.
I'll bet you'd find that many who would condemn homosexuality don't believe in God, or the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Mary Stinton, God Bless you and keep you. I hope they find the person who did this to you and your friend.
Jeanne,
As a non-church attending Christian, let me suggest that any true deist would never murder a fellow human being. I disagree with Janine that "many who would condemn homosexuality don't believe in God", but their sick interpretation of religious teachings allows them to hate and attack anyone who doesn't follow their strict dogmas. Jesus never taught hatred, never condoned physical violence, and would have been the first person to embrace these girls. I also hope they find the person who did this, and I expect he/she will have an oft-read Bible or Koran in his possession.
Jeanne, did you miss the part in the story where there is no motive. For all we know it could have been another woman to kill these girls. Just because people do not believe what you do doesn't mean that they were killed for being gay. I hope they find the party that committed this crime.
MNPat
You should find a church to attend. They are all imperfect as we are. Find the one God wants you to attend and become a part of that community. It is essential to continued growth.
Many Theologians believe that Jesus was the one who had the direct dealings with man even throughout the old testament. It is he who talked directly with Adam and Eve. It is he who Instructed anyone who would listen to him about his ways. It is he, who instructed Noah to build the ark. It is he, who instructed Abram to leave Ur. It is he who promised Abraham not to destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah if he could find just 10 righteous people. It is he, who wrote the commandments. It is he who guided Moses to write the Levitical laws.
It is he, that became human as a baby, to be one of us, to give us the opportunity to have what he has. It is he that allowed the human race, both Jew and Gentile to murder him. We meant it to get rid of him, he meant it to pay for what we owe - our own lives.
It is he that permits the evil in this world. For, just as in man's law, you cannot punish, unless a wrong has been committed.
Who knows what his purpose is in allowing this violence to these two girls.
Was it to punish them for lesbian acts? Was it to stop them from continuing this behavior? Was it to be able to punish these people who thought to perform "justice" on their own instead of waiting for God to act? Were these people unknowing instruments in performing the will of God? Was it so people can re-examine themselves in their thoughts and actions in comparision to what God want's? Is it to expose our errant thoughts to the world?
When you say this "I expect he/she will have an oft-read Bible or Koran in his possession." Are you not setting yourself up in the place of God too? Is this why you are not in church? Do you really understand the Bible better?
That doesn't mean their being lesbians had nothing to do with it.
It's a sad and horrific situation all around. To think that because of their sexuality (or potentially because of it), these young women would be harmed is awful. If caught, it would then be escalated to a hate crime and that would not only be understandable, it would reasonable. I hope the police work on searching for the perpetrators immediately, regardless of the women's sexuality.
RIP Mollie, and I wish a speedy and full recovery for Mary.
I hope the police find, arrest and bring to justice whoever did this to these girls...
as a lesbian, it's far too easy to assume that this was some homophobic jerk who did this...but I suppose it just as easily could have been a lesbian who was just nuts and in love with one of the girls...or it could have been totally random.
how horrible...it takes a real monster to do something like this.
We should be allowed to charge church and religion (leaders) for promoting these types of hate crimes and murder against gay people. This reminds me about the Matthew Shepard story.
Matthew Shepard Foundation » Our Story -
RIP Mollie you sweet angel, and get well Christie.
DB Akron,
Why do you think I should attend church, since, in your own words, they are all imperfect? I had wonderful religious instructions in my childhood through my teen years, and strive daily to live a life where I follow the two greatest commandments: Love God, and love thy neighbor as thyself. Organized religions add nothing to my existence beyond dogma. God is everywhere in Nature, and doesn't require that we isolate ourselves in brick buildings emblazoned with religious symbols.
What a terrible tragedy. If these beautiful girls were shot because they were gay, its even more of a tragedy. I pray they find the POS that did this and hope he/them rot in hell. Prayers to the family and friends of these girls.
The assailant escaped lickety split.
If there is no known motive for the shooting, then why did the headline have to identify the girls as lesbians?
To stir up controversy, that's my guess.
The media nowdays has no standards or ethics.
It's anything for a headline.
Tina, you are exactly right. The media wants to divide in the sexuality aspect as well as every other aspect of our lives. Rich vs poor, people of color vs white, gay vs straight, union vs non union, and liberal vs conservative.
Sensationalize every story whether there is any proof of motive.
Tina, Pjr, i agree with you it's disgusting what the media does. I don't know how the news alert showed on your MSN screens, but mine says "no arrests in lesbian attacks". Are you kidding me? These weren't even simple "attacks", it was murder and attempted murder. And how can an arrest be made when they don't have any suspects yet. But MSN has to put some stupid little sanstionalizing hyped up wording for their link to the story.
Two girls have been shot. One is dead, one could still die. There families are devastated. It shouldn't matter how they lived their lives. All that should matter is someone did the worst thing imaginable to them. It's sad and a terrible tragedy for their families.
I would have to agree. Why are there so many gay articles out today? I noticed on a previous article about the pastor whose son contracted AIDS because he was gay. I found so many problems with that story and how they twisted the bible verses in order to invoke pity. Too bad we weren't allowed to comment on that article.
As for these teenagers, despite the fact they were gay, nobody has the right to shoot them. I hope they find the people who did this. As a christian, this is not the way to handle homosexuality. We are to confront sin whenever possible, but we should not take vengence on someone else.
Or as God said to the prophet Jeremiah 15:19
19 The Lord replied, “If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak words that are worthy, you will be my spokesman. You are to influence them; do not let them influence you!
Jeanne Deau - I feel sorry for you. You have more hatred in your heart than the people you intend to denounce.
First off - I'm pretty sure that love is not a sin, despite what your preacher may have told you.
Secondly- We do not know that these girls were shot because they were lesbians. There are dozens of reasons that two girls could have been shot. Someone (male or female) could have bene jealous of their relationship. Someone could have robbed them. Someone could have tried to grab on e in a random escual assault and ended up having to shoot both of them when they resisted. Someone could have just randomly been on the prowl for a kill. It could have been a drug deal gone bad. The girls could have interrupted someone doing something they didn't want to be caught doing....OR someone could have targeted them as a gay couple. We DON'T know why yet.
Lastly - MOST Christians are not homophobic. Yes the church leaders are often outspoken on the "sin" of homosexual activity. Those that call themselves Christian and then bash gay people are those who think they are "Holier than Thou". They think that their hate and outspokenness and bible twisting makes them "better" Christians than those of us who quietly accept and love our neighbors with no reservations. Jesus Christ gave us but two commandments. Love God and love thy neighbor as thyself. JC never commanded anyone to go forth and persecute. He never said to condemn and judge one another. He would have been philospophically opposed to that type of behavior. He would have railed against it.
There are so many sins that each and every Christian commits every day - WE ALL FALL SHORT> WE ARE ALL SINNERS > NO ONE DESERVES SALVATION. Lust, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, Pride - commonly refferred to as the 7 deadly sins. Can anyone honestly say that they do not commit any of them on a daily basis?
It is past time that Christians of all denominations take back our faith from these false prophets who have perverted it. I am tired of a small but vocal minority hijacking a faith that teaches us to love and care for each other, teaches community and compassion for those less fortunate....and twisting it to justify the very mindset that it opposes.
God loves gays. Jesus loves gays.
Anyone who does not know love does not know love, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19
How sad we still have parasites in society that take harm on others who are simply living their lives.
Deepest condolences to Ms Olgin's loved ones. And best wishes to Ms Chapa for a speedy recovery, physically and emotionally...
Areius, what church do you know of that advocates murdering homosexuals? I have never heard of ANY. While some churches speak of the "Sin" of homosexuality and the actions thereof, I have never heard a religious leader speak of murdering or otherwise physically hurting gay people.
Those who condone such actions are no better than the Islamic terrorists who speak of killing Christian/Jewish Infidels. They read their own fanatical views in the words of the Bible.
No matter what their political/religious affiliations, fanatics are dangerous.
I certainly hope that Mary Chapa recovers enough to shed light on this situation to investigators. Maybe she saw her attacker, maybe she knows him, or maybe she doesn't. In any event her account of the situation would be invaluable.
To everyone who is taking this as an opportunity to bash Texas and Christians: you're just making yourselves look like an inane peanut gallery. Anyone who follows my posts knows that I support equal rights for gay people. However, until they can tell us who killed these girls and why they were killed, I'm not going to jump on to the anti-evangelical band wagon. Is there a part of me that wants this to be a religiously motivated killing so that I can point to this murder as an example and say "See! Christians DO kill people for being gay!"? Yes. Yes, there is a part of me that wants that to be the exact senario that is going on here. But is it what happened? WE DON'T KNOW, and this agnostic isn't going to wave proof of nothing in someone's face as though it is proof of something.
Even though those of us who argue for equal rights are itching for the proponents of biogtry and religiously inspired hatred to do just one more thing to give gay people (and us straight people who support their civil rights) another piece of martyerdom to argue the point of civil rights and be vindicated, this is not one of those instances. It might be. It might not be. But jumping the gun makes you look like an idiot.
Personally I think the fact that they were lesbian was just thrown into the report just to stir people up.
The fact that this story has turned into another political/religious debate is completely ridiculous! I am a preachers daughter, I have gay and lesbian friends and I have a gay nephew, I am also a republican. I find it offensive that you can take the small few religious/political people who don't agree with this and group them in with the rest of us. I raised to hate the sin but love the sinner. Yes the bible states the homosexuality is a sin but I also believe that everyone has the right to be the love by the gender of their choosing. Now removing religion, sexuality and politics from this story. You have two young beautiful girls who were shot, one of which lost her life because some insane person or group of people decided it was their right to take 2 lives that they felt were not worth living. There are 2 families out there suffering because of this incident and friends of these 2 girls who are grieving. Lets stop with the name calling, finger pointing crap and realize that it only makes the situation worse, especially if people who knows these girls gets on here and reads this crap.
I pray for both families, I pray for Ms Chapa's speedy recovery and for healing of her heart on the loss of her loved one. I pray for healing for Ms Olgins loved ones who are left to deal with this horrible crime.
Floridagirl05 I agree completely with your post.
And in this case I would say thank you for being Christ-like and not (just) Christian.
I was raised christian and I have a gay cousin. My family is not very Gay-Friendly as you would put it but we love my cousin because he is Family and we know this was not a choice he made. This was how he was born and we will always support our loved one.
I have no hatred for any race, creed, orientation, or religion that does not see fit to harm me or mine. I have gay and bi-sexual friends and I support their rights to have marriage to the people they love.
This was a horrible event for their loved ones and a horrible thing for the media to use as a way to get ratings. I wish a speedy recovery to Ms Chapa and my sympathies for the loss of her friend and lover. To the family of Ms Olgins I cannot say anything but you have my condolences.
pfft.
I agree completely. Isn't it interesting how so many 'Christians' conveniently forget those two very important points.
Ah, good ol' Texas, where in 1846 General Zachary Taylor, under orders from President James K. Polk, marched his forces of the U.S. Army across the internationally recognized Mexican border at the Nueces River -- NOT the Rio Grande. This was done so that a war could be started, with the aim of TAKING California and New Mexico. (look it up in a REAL history book -- not one printed specifically for the Texas School Board)
No, the United States of America, that Great Bastion of Democracy and Christianity, has never, ever, ever, done anything un-Christian at all. Least of all invade another Sovereign Nation just to start of a War designed purely to acquire more land. (yes, that was sarcasm)
Given all that, I am not all surprised that two young girls who "just happen" to be lesbians would be MURDERED in Texas. Especially in a suburb of a town named "Body of Christ" (yes, that is the translation of the Spanish/Mexican "Corpus Christi").
All you who are saying that there is no way to know why the two girls were killed seem to have not paid much attention to the fact that they were both shot in the head. This was a very deliberate EXECUTION -- not just some random shooting.
No motive? Such a deliberate EXECUTION means it was a deliberate murder -- and the fact that the girls were in an open relationship tells me this murder is motivated by HATE. If I were the type to bet, I would lay odds that the girls were shot BECAUSE they are/were lesbians.
@ Agnon Mema,
Guess what? Before it was named "Mexico" it was just land like the USA. Yes and the spaniards raped and killed enough natives to take over Mexico. FYI anybody with curly hair in Mexico is not native. Fact.
Also it could be one of their parents, ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, but no matter what most 1st degree murdesr are motivated by hate. If a wife hates her husband because he banged her friend and kills him, is it a hate crime?
Exactly! Very rarely does anyone kill someone out of love. (The exception being mercy killings)
Texas, you just can't get out of your own way. Bigots and homophobes seem to breed there and in Arizona. Guess it's just right wing country.
Every large city in Texas was BLUE in 2008. There is still hope for us. The teabirthers are mostly old and will die soon.
William, would you prove that right wing people are bigots or homophobes and prove that left wing people are not without using some liberal web site as a reference?
Thank you.
@JamesLee - are you kidding? You DO realize that the GOP (i.e. RIGHT WING) is proud to state that they have an anti-gay platform, and that they require all Republican politicians who agree to monetary or political support to be anti-gay or lose said support, don't you?
So does it count if I use a conservative website as a reference? How about a quote from one?
"“We oppose all forms of invidious discrimination. Sexual orientation is not an appropriate category.”
In other words - it's OK to discriminate against gays.
Oh it may alright for you to descriminate against gays, for now at least. But i still get to call you, and rightly so, a bigot.
Guys, no one knows why these poor girls were shot. There is no motive yet. It doesn't have to be bigotry that lead to this. It could be. No one knows yet. Either way it was the act of an individual(s), not an entire State worth of people.
I live in Texas, I'm more "right wing than left" I'm not "anti-gay" y'all are just making asses out of yourselves. What happened here was a travesty no matter the political leaning, It's okay I'll just take my Libertarian ass and sit on the outside watching the Republicans and the Democrats destroy eachother. YOU people are what's wrong with the US y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Horrible.
Another day, another senseless shooting in the US. Yawn...
I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out someone had thought it was open season for lesbians. With the current hysteria about gay marriage, that's unfortunately what you can expect: some kind of "honor" killing. Hopefully the investigation will give an answer.
I agree. The gay marriage push will fuel even more violence towards the gay and lesbian community. A shame that people are losing their lives over this stuff.
Yes, and June is Gay Pride month. With the issue of gay marriage front and center, as well as pictures of gay pride parades, I can imagine that some homophobes have been even more inflamed. Thoughts and prayers go out to Mollie's friends and family, and I hope for a full recovery for Mary.
@buffdaddy - "It's a shame that people are losing their lives over this stuff."
The price of freedom isn't free. American Patriots have known this since before the beginnings of our country. They didn't ask to be soldiers in this war - but they fought and they died bravely, and they should be remembered with the rest of the unsung heroes of our community.
Their deaths shall not be in vain, and they shall not be forgotten. We WILL see our freedom, or we will die fighting for it.
Rest in peace, my sisters.
oh shut up Samuel Adams you moronic hypocrite! First you say its okay to discriminate against them and now you are trying to say something nice about them! make up your @!$%#ing mind and stop trying to dance between being anti-gay and feeling sorry for them cause it doesnt come off sounding very pretty! Bigots disgust me yes but a bigot who tries to act nice disgusts me even more! also stop trying to sound patriotic cause that bullcrap pulls no weight with me.
dahwhatsdat???
I think you need a little work on your reading comprehension. Sam didn't mean that it was ok to discriminate. He was illustrating the GOP policy by making a sarcastic remark. If you had read, and understood, the first part of his post, read back to the other person's post he was refering to, and also read some of Sam's earlier posts his wording and position would be quite clear. Try to calm down and lose the anger and angry words, it doesn't help you or anyone else.
It is unfortunate that the media jumped to a conclusion and boasted these young people as homosexuals. May God's peace be with those who are hurting over this crime.
Can we swap with February (Black History Month), since February is shorter?
Boys and grils lets get back to basicis Boys lick splits Girls wash winnies
Anticrapola "It is unfortunate that the media jumped to a conclusion and boasted these young people as homosexuals."
it's unfortunate that you believe being gay is unfortunate, or that you feel the information being provided is "boasting"...
Jessica
I may be wrong, but I believe Anticrapola's point was that identifying them as homosexual was superfluous since the motive was not yet clear. See my post 3.17.
I don't think the point was that being gay is unfortunate, but that at this point is is not relevant to this story."Boasted" may have been an unfortunate choice of words.
My gracious lord....there is no lead as to who the shooter or what the shooters motivations were. Perhaps we should all pray for the recovery of Ms. Chapa and hope she is able to recover the memory of the shooting.
There is no telling what was in the mind of the shooter or their motivation. What we do know is that one young woman is dead and her family, girlfriend and friends will need to morn her death. What we know is that Ms. Chapa is receiving care for her wounds and that the police are working to find the shooter.
Until more comes out and the shooter is caught I certainly hope the young women of the Corpus area are vigilent and aware of what goes on around them.
First look at a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend. Second look at a jeoulous lesbian ex-girlfriend. Gays can be very violent when their partner is cheating on them. Third: A local religious freak in the area that have spoked out loudly about lesbians.
From the peanut gallory that haves no knowledge.(Just sad this happened to these gals)
What a stupid comment! "Gays can be very violent when their partner is cheating on them." Please! Stop with nonsense!
Two young girls were shot! This is awful! Your nonsense serves no productive purpose.
Same sex couples are just as likely to suffer from issues of domestic violence as heterosexual couples. Protections for gay and lesbian partners included in the Violence Against Women Act is one of the reasons the GOP would not support its renewal.
Having said that, this is a terrible tragedy regardless of the reason or motivation.
Just wow.
For you to even use the word knowledge seems like such a travesty.
You've been so busy being stereotypical, that you didn't leave any time for a solid education.
@AllPeopleRights: Was about to say that. Anyone can be violent after a breakup and being said "gay ex" doesn't raise the probability of that. My colleague here has had more ex-girlfriends then a cat on valentines day, and let me tell you most of them came back to haunt him (slashed tires, death threats.. you know the norm for an overly-sexually active guy into himself).
Not going to generalize Texas for what happened to these two girls though. It could be some sort of pissed-off lover, it could be the whole anti-gay thing going around, or even an honor killing (in Texas though? [I guess that can happen]). We won't know until the killer is found.
Thoughts go out to the families of the girls.
Huh?
Your first thought would be to look at a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend but then you say gays can be very violent. So, what's your point? I agree with AllPeopleRights.
Yes, I'm sure the police need your help deb. I'm sure the police wouldn't even think of questioning anyone until you mentioned it! I agree with Mike but I'm a bit shocked that you managed to spell knowledge correctly.
Deb, what evidence do you have that suggests gays are especially violent after a relationship breaks up?
"Deb, what evidence do you have that suggests gays are especially violent after a relationship breaks up?"
Her girlfriend kicked her ass.
I think just about everyone, gay or not, tends to be more violent when their relationship is breaking up. Just sayin'.
Guys, seriously, this is a tragedy and no one knows why they were shot yet or if it had anything at all to do with their sexuality. It might have. It might not have.
This also looks like a murder suicide? I'm waiting to get all the facts before drawing conclusions or condemnation.
Not a murder suicide. For one, there'd have to be a gun lying around in the grass somewhere (unless a passerby took it). Second, one of the victims would have gun powder residue on her hand. If the shooter was close-up, that would also be evident from powder burns. The police wouldn't obvious miss clues like that.
I'm betting on the third - though I realize the first two scenarios are not unheard of.
My condolences to the bereaved. It is unfortunate that the media would incite homosexual uprising by using slanderous comment for headline.
Anticrapola - people like you creep me out.
"It is unfortunate that ANTICRAPOLA would incite homosexual uprising by using slanderous comment for their postings."
there, i fixed your comment to be more accurate...
Anticrapola
"homosexual uprising'??
Don't you mean "anti-homosexual uprising"?
I was defending you above but I take it back.
nymike-- he's from ny what did you expect- an intelligent remark
Tina-thatis funny as hell- next we'll have gay zombies. omg
Relative to the questions posed in Msgs. 7.7 and 7.8 (among others), incidents of violence (esp. domestic violence) among lesbian couples is considered to be "approximately the same" as is the incidence among heterosexual couples - findings made by such individuals as Burke and Rose and cited by the NVAWPRS and NCAVP (tho', if one looks at the actual numbers, such violence actually seems to be more prevalent among lesbian couples than among heterosexual couples with fully 50% of lesbian couples reporting "sexual abuse" and up to 90% reporting "psychological abuse" - versus approx. 33% for each category in heterosexual relationships). Post-break-up, in fact, according to the NCAVP, the jilted lesbian lover is more likely to exact physical revenge than is a heterosexual partner. Part of this may reflect the heightened emotions associated with a non-conventional sexual relationship, however, whatever the explanation, it is clear that lesbians are, at the least, just as violent in their associations as are heterosexuals.
That said, the "bottomline" on this story is that: (1) It is not certain that these two actually were involved in a lesbian relationship; and (2) There is no evidence that any such association/orientation played any role in their attack. Until those issues are answered, a lot of these comments on this board are both presumptuous and self-indulgent.
I have read the Bible many times #1 God talks about homosexuality in the Bible and he says many times that it's a sin. I dislike what homosexuals do but love them anyway for the Bible also says hate the sin but love the sinner...and Greg H. you are so inapropriate! Jessicala and MNPat had very good things to say! I've known many men and women that are homosexual but I still love them. I go to church reguarly...do I sin...yes I do, but I'm forgiven by the grace of God and this is the reason that Jesus had to die on the cross for salvation of our sins and that I appreciate everyday....We all sin and God knew that we would, and that's WHY Jesus had to die for the remission of our sins. I read this whole post and I can tell goes to church and who doesn't from what they say....and alot of them are truly sad...
Peace be with you Mollie; and we need to do what is right for Mary, her family and Mollie -- find out who did this and hold them accountable for their actions.
The United States, becoming more like the middle east everyday. We condemn them, yet practice the same views and hatred, just under a different name for God.
Actually I think we've come a long way but not far enough, obviously.
Well said, DarkShadow! We have some really vicious people in our country.
We have, but that just seems to creating a more intense movement by the ones with archaic thinking. We have that group of people passing laws to control women's bodies and restrict those with alternate lifestyles. It is that which breeds hatred that culminates into incidents like this. It is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Darkshadow,
Even with this terrible incident, I don't believe we can compare to the Muslim culture.
There is a possibility that these shootings had nothing to do with the girls being lesbian.
Laura - Beg to differ with you! We are only inches away from the Muslim culture.
Someone seems to think that only whites can be bigots. They should meet some of the Blacks that think all "white" people are all 'alike'. Personally, I think I'm more beige. Actually, I believe most Americans are more tolerant then most other nationalities.
Yes - and what do Christianity and Islam have in common? Militant evangelism that forces their respective theologies down everyone else's throat, an arrogant, self-righteous belief in their own monopoly on the "Truth," a Ragnarok-like e-"schat"-ological worldview, intolerance for any other belief system, phallo-centric, male-dominated hierarchy, misogyny, fascist-authoritarian control over people's private sexual behavior enforced by threats of eternal punishment and bribes of eternal rewards in the afterlife - and a hateful, bloodthirsty male desert deity that demands blood sacrifice.
A pox on both your houses.
FYI Jeanne,
Christianity was originally spread by apostles and disciples preaching the gospel to the people. If they weren't accepted somewhere, they were to "shake the dust of that town off of their feet" and move on. Aberrations since then are just that, aberrations.
Islam was originally spread by a collection of tribal warriors under the leadership of a strong and charismatic personality. It was spread by conquering and subduing local people--who were given a choice of paying a huge tax to continue to exist, beheading, or in some cases accepting Islam. The women and children of a conquered place were taken as slaves or concubines, and the men and boys were summarily executed. Please educate yourself instead of spewing hateful discourse.
In the US, black MEN got the vote before women. In the US, a black MAN was elected president before any women. A state legislator recently banned for saying the word "vagina" during a debate about an abortion law.
About female Muslim country leaders, from Wikipedia:
1) Indonesia, the most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Megawati Sukarnoputri as president.
2) Pakistan, the second most populous Muslim-majority country, twice (non-consecutively) elected Benazir Bhutto as prime minister.
3) Bangladesh, the third most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina as prime ministers.
4) Turkey elected Tansu Çiller, who became prime minister on June 13, 1993
5) In the Muslim majority region of Kosovo, President Atifete Jahjaga was unanimously elected by the Assembly of Kosovo on April 7, 2011
6) Kyrgyzstan's President Roza Otunbayeva was sworn in on July 3, 2010, after acting as interim leader following the 2010 April revolution.
7) Senegal's Mame Madior Boye was Prime Minister from 2001 to 2002.
Any questions, children?

Like not killing unborn babies. Yah that's such a bad thing.
We have an obligation to protect those who can't protect themselves.
@paganponderer --A woman said that the GOP policies were akin to rape not the word vagina that got her in trouble. The countries listed did not vote in teh prime minister but the party which put in the prime minister. Also, no competent woman has run for president. Besides when one runs for governor of a large state it is usually as a Republican and they get trashed by the "tolerant" left. If they do win they get dissed by the tolerant left.
Like Sarah Palin, LOL. Obama's an idiot and she made him look like a Triple-Nine candidate.
Hyperbole merely makes one seem foolish. Your hysterical statement means exactly what? Oh, I get it. As religion has become less a part of American life we've become more violent and should recall that Jesus wanted us to hate the sin, but not the sinner. Thanks for clearing that up.
pagen-the minute men start throwing acid in womens faces in the USA, Then I'm out, Ill take my chances in mexico
Yes, what does your post have to do with this news report?
camo jack? unless you have a vagina PLEASE shut up about abortion and womens rights. if you dont believe in something, dont do it. but why should your beliefs be more important than mine? there is no place for religion in politics. seperation of church and state? hello.
I have gay friends who've never had problems. But then we live in S FL. where people aren't so bigoted or judgemental of other's private lives. How could it possibly be any one else's bussiness??
I have gay friends and family, and they've had problems because of it,and we live in S Fl. too.Every state has their share of crazies.
But have you even considered that it could have been another lesbian that shot them? People of every sexual orientation do stupid and sometimes horrible things, gays are NOT excluded in that. For all we know, the shooter may not have even known they were lesbians. There are a million possibilities.
Pixie1 - that's a great question - for 'Christian' Republicans.
Ridiculous statement, Pete. Christian republicans do not resort to violence any more than the libtards!
LInda,
Remind me who's tossed bombs into abortion clinics, beaten up gays after a gay pride event, etc. Yeah, it was those socially liberal types, who can't accept you if you're not just like them.
Wow, Pete, your ASSumption that they were Christian and Republican shows that YOU are the hateful one running around. I'm actually surprised your didnt add in white male since you're being such a bigot.
I could be wrong, but I think Pete was saying to ask christian republicans about "How could it possibly be any one else's bussiness??"
and it's an incredibly fair question to ask, considering it's christian republicans who are trying to ban gays from having equal rights...and some have even called for their death (like the leader of Salvation Army).
Im sorry, but the shoe fits...let them wear it.
Otherwise, they need to practice what they preach about small govt and not intruding in peoples lives and their freedoms...
until then, they are simply hypocrites of the highest order
S FL on which planet? Unless you mean Key West.
Linda and Ru - you two need to really work on your reading comprehension skills.
I believe the two of you have been PWNED by other subsequent posters.
'Subsequent' means 'following' or, in less syllables, 'after'.
Y'see peaches, 'Christians' and 'Republicans' *have* been making 'it' their business for years. And they've been turning it into politics. Did y'miss that too?
And Ru: the one making the ASSumption (clever, by the way!) was *you*. Did I state that I thought or believed that anyone was Christian or Republican?
We'll wait right here while you go back up and re-read my original post.
Done yet? Good. Now put down the dictionary and focus, pumpkin.
As Jessica very eloquently stated (and correctly intuited! She's got reading skills!) the question for the CR's was, in fact, "How could it possibly be anyone else's business?"
Since you missed that rather subtle (and critical) point of my post, go back and take another look and then ask yourself if YOU think it's valid question for a group - or intersection of the groups (which we intelligent people call a VENN DIAGRAM - that's in your dictionary too!) - who, as MNPat correctly pointed out, have members who advocate and carry out all sorts of violence and bigotry!
The answer is, if course, that it isn't. It isn't their business. But they're making it their business.
And they're scaring and polarizing and dividing the people of this country based on their bigotry.
Heavy concepts to be sure for the two of you; (that's a semicolon!) I suspect neither of you will return to defend your positions.
That's not an assumption, that's a suspicion. Those are different!
Also, beavers have large front teeth which they use to chew through trees!
Hmmmm-- will this turn into a "homophobe" bashing thread? Or a 'we need stronger gun laws' thread?? Stay tuned.
Until then....condolences to these families-- I hope whoever did this, for whatever reason, is caught and made to pay for this.
Poor things! RIP Mollie. My condolences to her family. Best wishes to Mary getting well.
This is really awful! It is hard enough for gay people being hurt by bigoted and discriminatory people. Please leave them alone and let them live in peace.
Poor babies!
Everythings bigger in Texas.. especially the atrocities. De-evolutionary greedy waco whock gun nuts... and that' s just the past few governors. Grosss
The bigger ptoblem is that these women were probably killed by a drug dealer from Mexico using a gun provided by Eric Holder. The only good thing is now people may pay attention to the 200 Mexicans killed and the 4 Americans killed so far by the actions of the lying idiot Holder.
Would you rather they be stabbed to death or thrown out a window?
Camo Jack - they could have drowned in a wayward five-gallon plastic bucket.
peteMT - not if you put a hole in the bottom like the government recommends!
A crime has been committed. Can we at least investigate it before we announce who is responsible and why? They may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
ChrisMcK - "Can we at least investigate it before we announce who is responsible and why?"
I'm sure that is what they are doing. If you don't want to read the posts, move on, rather than chastise people for commenting. Good idea, eh? These posts are for comments. What a concept!
There are only three people on planet earth who know the motive for this attack.
One is dead.
The other is in the hospital, clinging to life.
The third is the shooter.
Anything else at this point is pure speculation. I see a crime. I cannot call it a hate crime until I see some EVIDENCE.
People are commenting - doesn't mean they assumed who did this. Please re-read the posts, I think they are all quite concerned about the girls mainly.
The reason it grabs headlines is that Texas is somewhat infamous for the way its criminals brutally treat homosexuals. It also isn't known as a very tolerant state by what its law-abiding citizens freely say. This story has the ingredients for a sensational story. Had this occurred somewhere else, it may not be noteworthy that the couple was homosexual and certainly wouldn't be in the national news.
Chris - quite the assumption on YOUR PART to assume that the 2 girls would know the motive of the killer.
Practice what you preach, or STFU
RIP Mollie. This should not happen to anyone, for any reason.
How horrible. Mary and Mollie... so sorry
WOW you guys are all over yourselves trying to find a way to blame anti-gay/christian/or conservatives when even the police stated that they have no evidence of that and the friends summarily denied it as well. Thanks to your mentality George Zimmerman has no chance of a fair trial. Dont let the facts get in the way or anything of your tinfoil hat belief systems.
Sheesh
I didn't see a post about anti-Christian. I guess you are trying to make one.
This post is about a very sad and horrible thing! Why don't you comment on your concerns for these two young girls or just move on?
Since you obviously have no concerns for these young women, I would suggest that you leave the site.
Getoveryourself..appropriate SN for you. Im a Christian sir, and some have totally lost their collective marbles over the gay marriage issue..some, like myself, might even think they have lost the whole point of Christianity in the process..IE Compassion, tolerance, respect for others and their religion, and the Golden Rule...Consequently, that video showing the 3 year old bashing gays made me ill....
As to your assertion about Zimmerman, hogwash...He made an assumption, picked a fight, got his butt whipped, and in retaliation shot an unarmed kid. Period THE END. Him and his wife flat out lying to a judge about the money donated to him for a legal fund so they could use it instead to pay off bills and keep it, should tell you quite a bit about his character.
All People,
If you believe in all people's rights, why would you not welcome Get Over's comments, even if you think they are wrong?
And why would you believe that it is up to you whether Get Over should stay on this site or not?
Thanks James Lee.
All People--re-read the comments yourself. GetOverYourself is right. See comments above by posters with an obvious Anti-Christian slant. Would you like the names of the posters, or do you think you can find them for yourself?
AllPeople, then you arent reading the posts because I've already posted against several.
I have seen Anti-Christian policy posts but not one saying anything more then that. Their not bashing the faith their bashing the faiths practices. For a religion that claims they preach love and peace they are a war-loving hate-filled group.
Of course these are without question the very vocal minority as most Christians are rather accepting of others as most hold to the belief of Judge not lest ye be judged. or however that quote goes.
But the minority of Christians come off as still clinging to that Kill or Convert mentality that they had in the dark ages.
No doubt some white bigot who believes if these two ladies were ever married, they would cut into his foodstamps. Whites in America are losing their minds...over foolishness, and listening to FOX lies.
I guess shortly we'll start hearing about all the Hispanics being gunned down in Arizona, with Arapa-ho's approval.
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
No one knows yet, moshuluu. Best not to assume until we know. These poor young girls.
You are proof that whites have no exclusivity on racism. The scary part is you vote and probably breed.
Paduki, if you're responding to me, here:
Me, racist? Of course, here we go again. I've said numerous times, I don't like whites, I tolerate them. As far as voting, yes, I have voted for EVERY white President since, and including Nixon, but voted for President Obama this time. Breeding? Of course, 3 daughters for ONE LIFETIME wife, one daughter is a pharmacist, one daughter is a nurse practitioner, one daughter is a sales associate for Macy's. I bet you find it hard to believe a BLACK man can have one, lifetime wife, and only have 3 children? I'm 64 years old...
LOL.....Myself:
37 acres of land...paid for...
5375 S/F home, built in 2006, paid for...
5 vehicles, all paid for...
I have no bills, except for living expenses. I travel frequently, and typically go where I want.
And you?
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
moshuluu,
You state "I don't like whites, I tolerate them." You started with "Me, racist?" No contradiction there, right? I'm just a few years younger than you, and I have friends who are white, Asian, African American, and Hispanic. What group of people do I dislike? Anyone who'll write off an entire race or nationality.
Glad you have enjoyed success; but you should be a really happy guy, surrounded by all those ladies!
Moshuluu, if you get any more racist-in-denial you might need to seek counseling. Racism is a cancer that also hurts you; but, with your vile racism running around it might not be a bad thing for you to hurt!
What an idiot why does every liberal have to push his beliefs on everyone else.
BTW I am pretty sure gays have nothing to do with food stamps, black lazy asses on food stamps, and zimmmerman was attacked and shot in self defense.
moshuluu
I'm sorry whites made the country you live in and support your lazy brothers. your racism makes perfect sense whites are now where near as racist as blacks anymore
moshuluu
Only 37 acres? I thought the allotment was 40 acres and a mule?
Um you appear to be a bigot, but your post indicates you aren't white. Quite the conundrum. As far as your proclamations of wealth? Its ok I like to pretend I'm Elijah Muhammed. If you're rich I am he.
Prayers and healing energy to them and both families. I don't know what's wrong with people sometimes.
"Some earmarks of a targeted attack"?????? I would suggest the damn thing screamed of a targeted attack! Obviously whoever did this terrible thing knew these girls. It should not be a very hard crime to solve.
PS: An additional comment:....why in the hell is/was necessary to declare these two young women were "lesbians", as though it was some sort of communicable disease?
Interesting observation. Had the two girls been heterosexual do you suppose that would have been in the headlines "Teen Heterosexuals Found Shot in Texas Park". It does seem to smack of sensationalism. Rest in peace young ladies...what a shame.
So true,TVAR,hopefully the girl makes it so she can say who did this.
media just pouncing on the current gay marriage debate...sad but true...
It was necessary because it's a fact. If there was a report about a man and a woman that were dating, being killed in the same way in the same place, would you say that it's unnecessary to report that they were a couple?
Hell, if the reporter knew that these two girls were a couple and didn't include that fact, they'd be accused of trying to cover it up or something.
It's amazing what petty little things people get upset about these days.
Uhhhh, it is quite possibly indicative of the motive behind the attack. If that is what the police are looking into in their investigation, it is very much part of the story. Of course the cops aren't saying that in the article, probably because regulations do not allow for a great deal of disclosure in a new case. Heck, in a story about a likely domestic violence murder, the initial police comments would be that they are questioning the boyfriend.
λ
What a surprise, here in a part of the country dominated by bigoted, hateful right wing Christian fundamentalists. May the young lady who died rest in peace and the other young lady recover quickly and repair her life. Right wing hate is taking over this country. When will decent people of all beliefs come together and put a stop to it?
You sure don't know much about Nueces County.
spike, i know about Maricopa county...and all the GOP here knows is how to hate and show a complete lack of respect for their fellow man.
david,
So? The event occurred in south Texas, not Arizona.
I'm more offended by rock5453 referring to Evangelicals as "fundamentalists." Evangelicals do not follow the fundamentals of Christianity, in fact, they ignore most of Christ's teachings and behave in way contrary to his instructions. A true "fundamentalist" would love all people as instructed by Christ.
Well, a "true" Christian is imaginary, since no one has EVER acted like that fictional character required them to. Christians pick and choose what they want to believe and what they insist you base YOUR life on.
A Christian aspires to live a Christian life. No man is perfect. What do you aspire to?
Hey Rock. Crawl back under it. Clearly you know nothing about Nueces County or Texas in general. Prayers to the families of both these young women. I hope they catch the SOB who did this.
Samuel Adams.....fictional character? Kind of like that name your chose right? We Christians do not pick and choose what we believe and your stating that shows what incredible ignorance you have.
Samuel Adams;
You seem like an intelligent person, so I don't understand why you believe Jesus was a fictional character. Historians have concluded he probably lived; his teachings, however, have been distorted by many preachers over time. There are some "true" Christians, IMHO. Google "Nuns on a Bus". Consider Ghandi, the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa. You don't have to attend a church to be a Christian.
It's San Patricio County. From someone who actually lives in the town where this happened, we are completely shocked. We have a lovely, quiet town where people actually watch out for each other. There are numerous things that don't quite add up just yet. These girls were kayaking after midnight at a park where no or very few lights are at night. It's a very popular park for kite boarders where people come from all over the country to not only watch but participate. People here could care less if they were lesbians. We don't like crime, that's why we live here and not in Corpus Christi which is less than ten minutes away over the bay. To the idiots who claim to know that we are a town of bigoted, hating, right-wing Christians, you'd be right about the majority of Christians but, as usual, completely wrong about the other. Sounds like a typical left-wing bigoted liberal who obviously has no tolerance for others who aren't like you. The prayers from an entire community to the families of these young girls who had their whole lives ahead. Meanwhile, we are still a town with a killer on the loose. Hope they catch the bastard and show him a little Texas justice.
@rock
And liberal bs is destroying it.
If you aren't a christian then have fun in hell but just because you aren't doesn't mean me and my church shot that couple.
Ok the fact that historians have concluded he MIGHT have existed does not prove he did. I personally believe there was a man named Jesus who preached for the Jewish faith. (Yes people please remember Jesus was a Jew. And he was perfect so I am not sure what the means.)
As far as Liberals and Conservatives ruining the country. Yes they are and No they aren't its the radicals and those who are the most vocal who do the most damage.
These two girls where shot, one killed, one seriously wounded. This is a fact. The details we are striving to learn are why they where shot and by whom. The motive is not important beyond a Why. If the shooter was a straight male or straight women who shot them because of their relationship that is all we need to know. We do not need to know why that person believed that. It is not important.
Racism and Intolerance have been around for Thousands of Years and is hardwired into our genetics as a means of survival. But we are evolved beyond that point now and we need to overcome these basic primitive instincts and grow as a species and culture.
"If you aren't a Christian have fun in hell."??
WTF does that mean?
And just what makes you a REAL American, may I ask?
Real American, huh? Well one thing's for sure - you are definitely NOT a real Christian. Real Christians understand that it is NOT their place to judge the actions of others; that role is reserved exclusively for God.
George Zimmerman blew it when he left the vehicle against police advice. After that, the confrontation had nowhere to go but down! Oh, and you don't suppose his wife's perjury would alienate a jury, do you?
Posting to the wrong article.
Posted in wrong article Auntie.
shes replying to a previous comment by some narrow minded fool who commented on the Zimmerman case guys...
Dear Auntie Fascist. I'll say this again and will KEEP saying it as long as nimrods (like you) insist on getting it wrong:
"...he left the vehicle against police advice." WRONG!
He left his vehicle after a DISPATCHER, with absolutely ZERO authority told him not to. He was under NO LEGAL OBLIGATION to follow the dispatcher's request. ZERO. ZIP. ZILCH. NADA. Not one goddamned bit.
Do you get that yet? DISPATCHERS CANNOT ORDER YOU TO DO SOMETHING - ONLY A SWORN POLICE OFFICER. Dispatchers are not sworn police officers, therefore they do not have the authority to direct your actions. How many different ways do I have to say it before you ninnies understand?
DISPATCHERS ARE NOT POLICE OFFICERS AND DO NOT HAVE THEIR AUTHORITY TO DIRECT CIVILIANS.
Dear "Samuel Adams": Perhaps you could up your reading/writing comprehension just a tad before making such ridiculous comments. The original poster did not claim that Zimmerman was ordered (as you later referenced) to stay in his vehicle, only that he was advised not to leave it. Two completely different things, if you can wrap your small mind around it. As the OP stated Zimmerman did blow it though when he left his vehicle, as he had no reason what so ever to do so, and that in my mind clearly dissolves any 'stand your ground' defense, which I still think is a bit pathetic on its own, in the way it has been used.
Can'y wait till this Zimmerman crap goes away!
Hey except for attacking Zimmerman and doing drugs Trayvon was a rock.
I hope this isn't what it looks like...I will reserve judgement til we know more.
