A woman lost $2,000 in Palo Alto after she threw her purse at a passing car filled with teenagers who allegedly threw a milkshake in her face.
The woman was walking across University Avenue near Rudy's Pub Sunday when a white Range Rover full of teenagers drove by and allegedly threw a milkshake in her face.
See the report at NBCBayArea.com | More from NBCBayArea.com
Authorities said the woman tried to get revenge by throwing her alligator skin purse at the passing vehicle.
The story was first reported by Palo Alto Online.
A window was open on the Range Rover and the purse landed in the car. The purse had several of the woman's personal items and $2,000 in cash.
Police are looking for the stylish purse and the teenagers, who are facing charges ranging from battery to possession of stolen property or misappropriation of property.

lol. I think she is too dumb to get her purse back.
Plus, you know that money is long gone!!!
Technically, they didn't "steal" anything, nor are they in possession of stolen property. She willingly threw her purse into their car window. They should be charged with assault because of the shake thing, but other than that...too bad so sad. They should be required by the court to return her belongings, but should not be charged with anything regarding theft.
They didn't steal anything!! She gave them the purse. The article is pretty funny - she 'gave' them the purse, and now she wants it back. I hope they don't catch those kids. And that they have learned their lesson from this.
Like most women dumb enough to carry a purse worth more than a car, she just goes on to prove she's even more stupid than the average. If her sugar daddy husband (and you know there is one) doesn't dump her dumb ass he's as stupid as she is. Just goes to show that having money doesn't mean you're smart or classy. Hope they don't find the kids. Obviously she's not smart enough to hold money.
I hope they find them for throwing things at a pedestrian but she will not see that money again. She is pretty dumb.
What a twit!!!! Not the brightest bulb in the strand! Hey you get an alligator with that shake?!
Revenge is a dish best served cold... Milkshake cold...
How do they know she really had $2000 in the purse? I wouldn't turn it in for the assault charges alone.
I doubt very much those kids learned anything from this. Throw a milkshake at a person, gain 2k (if she really had that in her purse), yeah...lol...lesson learned.
There are laws in most states making it illegal to convert property which is lost, mislaid or acquired by mistake; if the article is to be believed, the woman did not want the occupants of the vehicle to have the money or the purse. (which if real alligator, may be worth more than $2,000) These individuals may realistically be charged and convicted if the money was spent.
Lawence, anybody who "loses" a purse always has at least $1K to $5 K in it! That or all their rent, or all their grocery money ... and it's always cash ;-)
She threw the purse at them so they can claim that she gave it to them. But they can be held for assault for throwing the milkshake at her.
Can't she be cited for attempted assault for throwing the purse?
It's her word that she had an alligator purse, it had $2,000 dollars, and anything else that was in it, can she prove she even had a purse with her. I wouldn't turn it in. No evidence no proof unless they have film.
JMK, what lesson? I'd throw a milkshake for 2g, if she really did have that:)
Oh those wacky rich people. Me? I would have thrown a rock....
@ Lady Cat
Actually, those teens can't claim that she gave it to them since she throws it as revenge due to anger and never have option to get it back. Additionally, she reports it as stolen property because she didn't volunteering giving it to them, so if they get caught, they will pay back one way or another and be charge with the crime.
How slow was this car going? They "drive by", toss a shake in her face and she in a split second manages to react, physically make the move to hurl the purse, AND tossed it with enough accelerating that it catches up to a vehicle moving away and lines up perfect with the window. this woman needs to be recruited for MLB She is FAST and has amazing reaction times............
That is exactly why I never leave home without my .45 - never have to worry about throwing a purse.
What good would a .45 have done in this case? None.
She should have gotten the license plate and let the cops do their job. The exact same thing happened to my friend when he was on his bike. Except the throwers got stopped by a train a few miles down the road and my buddy caught up to them and kicked the throwers @ss. It could have ended a very different way had she been armed.
sorry, don't think the lady was dumb. unfortunate? definitely.
imagine the helpless, foolish situation of being covered with a nasty milkshake. you want to show you're going to do SOMETHING besides just stand there and take it. throw what ever is handy and feel a little better.
totally ironic outcome, a fluke happening. probably couldn't do it again if she had a hundred tries.
karma let her down on that one.
Alligator purses stuffed with $100 bills, teenagers in Range Rovers, the private sector in Palo Alto IS doing fine.
of course, somewhere there's an alligator laughing his @ss off.
So sad when bad things happen to good trophy wives. My pitty metter is registering a 0.0. If the kids get caught I won't have any pitty for them either, sounds like a bunch of punks.
Doesn't intent matter? Did they mean to assult her with a milkshake or did they just throw it out the window to get rid of it? If so they are just litterbugs. All of this depends on the word of someone who says she made the rash decision to throw an expensive purse filled with money. Is she a reliable witness?
Whatever, Californians are broke so I'm sure she didn't have more than $10 in her bag. Most likely she lied in the hopes of getting $2000 out of this.
$2k can buy a LOT MORE MILKSHAKES! At $2k per said shake thrown, they can live quite comfortably for a few years :)
The teens, if found, could also press assault charges because of what she did... Isn't the judicial system GRAND???
I guess now on if someone says or does anything to me I am just going to throw my wallet at them, I just have to make sure I have enough cash in there to make it worth it.
here is how it probably went down, they argued over the price of her services, there was a disagreement and the milk shake holding perp took offense. he tosses his frothy beverage all over the dame and bungs up her tube top, now the jokes on her. She's a hothead with problems with restraint, when she swings her purse around to clobber the guy it slips out of her shake covered grip and lands in the range rover. there goes last nights earnings. big daddy is going to be pissed.
This is not even worth the time of the police department to look for this womans purse. First of all she is an idiot. I work at a daycare and even 4 year olds know better than to throw things at people no matter what they did! She is an idiot and basically gave those teenagers 2 grand. That's her problem!
@Amber Bradley
I guess you are a calm and collective person who won't respond to any provoke right?
Where you live? I can try to throw water balloon on you and apologize, see how you feel about it.
If the purse had 2k in it why did she throw it? Chances are there wasn't 2k and she's just lying that there was to put further pressure to find the teenagers and put even more charges against them.
Curious how she's gonna prove there was 2k in it. Cant the teenagers just say there wasn't 2k in it? it would be he said vs she said. and chances are the court will lean towards the stupid woman because she's a woman.
If she has proof that there was 2k in it. then cool, charge the kids if the money isnt returned. Charge the woman with assault since she threw a purse at someone.
Tdub-3088600
That is exactly what went down. She wants to get her money back before her pimp finds out.
To those people who said "what if she was armed?": Unless she had a threat to her life, which a flying milkshake isn't, she cannot respond with deadly force legally. Please do not encourage this kind of behavior. Deadly force is only justified to stop a potentially deadly threat, not to get revenge for a prank.
They could, but it would likely get thrown out of court.
Someone will Talk and thse thugs will be caught. Sentence? A year cleaning the streets and a $2000 fine. Plus the cost of the purse. Also credit cards, if used, a charge of theft.
It is truly shocking that many of the posters here think that this is funny. For those that say the teens can not be charged because they didn't steal the purse it was thrown at them, read the article again and look for the part where it says...or misappropriation of property.
As far as the woman throwing her purse, dumb, but anger makes people do dumb things. And it is human nature to want some sort of retribution.
These kids are nothing more than a statement to our society. Bad behavior gets rewarded and people look for a way to demonize the victim.
Not sure if anyone brought this up, but how do we know there was 2,000 dollars in her bag? How do we know she just made up an arbitrary even number like 2,000 instead of 2,120? If she can't prove the money was in the bag then she should not get any of that back either. As far as I am concerned she gave her bag and all the contents to the people in the vehicle. Only thing they are responsible for is throwing something at her. Also she should be charged with assault as well for throwing the bag at them.
I'll assume, from your name, that you are a female. Should you be assaulted by a rapist and fight back, do you think he should be able to press charges on you as well?
I'm not buying. Think about this, how slow would a 'passing car' have to be going for them to throw the milk shake, and then have her react fast enough to throw the purse into an open window? At best her purse would hit the rear of the vehicle. I smell a rat.
Ha! Revenge isn't always the answer is it?!
Not when you have zero common sense.
I think anger is an issue here.
And yes, it is a stolen property if the woman reports it.
I bet those teenagers laughed their heads off after found all the cash.
Yup. I just bet they did.
And if they use it, theirs parent will have to pay it back. The women didn't willingly give them the money and I bet she already report of lost property, which essentially make the purse a stolen property.
CoungDNguyen stop being a spoil sport. This is funny. And deserves a good laugh. Pick up your sense of humor and enjoy the show ;)
@ Echols1
There is nothing fun if some punk ass drive by and throw something at you. See if it fun when it happened to you.
3 years ago, me and my friends happened on the receiving end when we went for jogging and some ass threw water balloons on us.
Fun is when both party express the same thing, being a jerk is only you have fun on the situation of others.
More moron teenagers. Arrogant little rich kids too - a Range Rover. Catch 'em and throw them in jail for a week at least to get their attention that they are schmucks. Don't blame the woman for reacting and fighting back with the only thing she had available. They are just lucky she wasn't packin.
whatever-4 im with u here, because if she was packing and instead of a purse she would shoot the car ppl here will be talking a lot different. I shoot the fookers and damn with the consequence.
you would have shot teenagers for throwing a milkshake?...........makes you the most pathetic excuse for a human being I ever seen............your mother must be so proud
nope, but they got tail lights that are great targets for giving them a reason to change their shorts...and YES, they would deserve it. their parents aught to be smacked too!
Not that many Range Rovers around. Tracking it should be easy.
Have you ever actually been to Palo Alto?
Hmm... you obviously haven't been to Palo Alto.
All the rich kids drive their mommys Range Rovers , and hastle real people !! punks !!
Johnm..... thanks for confirming sensibility. What the hell are these punk kids doing throwing milkshakes into someone's face? It's as bad as the elderly woman who was being bullied by the kids on the school bus.
I'm thinking she threw her purse as a gut reaction out of anger. Yes, it was a dumb move on her part but I'm sure she didn't plan to lose it.
I hope they find these rich little azz wipes and punish them.
lmao!! next time don't aim for the open window :)
so i guess its ok for the little F#$@ to get away with it. nice people
While the whole story seems absolutely like a crock is $hit... If she threw her purse into their vehicle that is on her.
Let's think about this whole thing though... The lady claims they threw a milkshake on her. In 43 years of walking the planet I've never, nor do I know anyone how has ever, had a milkshake thrown on me. Add to that the fact that if I'm walking around with $2,000 on me I'm sure not swinging my purse at anyone, let alone throwing it anywhere.
Whole story stinks. I bet the lady lost $2000 at a casino and is scared to tell her spouse, or she gave it to a man she is cheating with, or some other version that leads to she's lying her ass off.
Edit to add, ahhh, forgot the other glaringly obvious possibility... Drug deal gone bad?
@ GrainofSalt. Actually my brother (in his younger days) through a large coke (McDonald's) at a bunch of women who cut him off in traffic. Road Rage. Not excusing what the kids did but it does get done.
I've actually had it happen twice (sort-of, regarding the shake... once was a coke.)
First time I was about 12, and my dad and I were driving down the road when someone pulled out in front of us (4 lane highway with a center turning lane.) He started chewing them out when he eventually got next to them, and their passenger tossed a smoothie onto his car/us.
Second, I was turning left out of a store, and a car making a left turn into the drive I was turning out of tossed a 64 oz fountain drink at my car for absolutely no reason- ended up hitting the a-pillar and shattering the cup, but the ice and coke went into my open window, between the driver and passenger seat, and hitting my 4 year old daughter.
Not that I disagree with any of the other parts of your post- but I do think it is quite likely a woman who CAN walk around with an alligator skin purse and 2g in it, likely isn't thinking about the 2g (just like I don't think about the 3 bucks I've got in my wallet, hypothetically because my wallet is currently empty lol.)
Hey Mike, I HAVE had a soda full of ICE and SODA thrown at me from a moving vehicle that hit me square in the chest while I was walking down the road....it DOES happen....you've just been lucky....
I was riding my bike when I was about 6. A couple of teenage boys threw an orange soda as they drove by and hit me square in the face. I was so SHOCKED that someone would do something so mean, I couldn't react. They laughed as they drove off. I often wondered if these two bullies spent any part of their lives in prison or as they matured, did they ever feel shame for their actions. Later (after I cried), I wish I had had something to throw at them!!!!
OK, battery charges make sense.
But possession of stolen property, misappropriation of property? The woman threw her purse at them. It's going to be hard to claim that they stole her purse -- not to the point that they could realistically be convicted of it, anyways.
And really, if it's illegal for them to throw a milkshake at her, it's illegal for her to throw a purse at them. It's certainly not self defense.
...and your wife would be going to jail for Murder in the Second Degree. She couldn't even claim self-defense in a Stand Your Ground state since no one would believe she feared for her life from a milkshake.
How would that hard to convict for stolen property. She never gave them permission for any of her personal belongings. Because she threw it does not mean someone else has the right of ownership. Just about any judge would see the justification of anger and not come down on her as he would for someone else who initiated an assault.
DA - Table for one.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha......hahahahahahaha
you just can't fix stupid...
I think you meant to say "you can't fix stupidity." But in reality, you can. With education, maturity, experience, and sometimes punishment. Further, you should not go around calling anyone stupid. All people make unwise decisions at one time or another. Just ask my Nigerian benefactor, who is quite wealthy, but needed a few thousand dollars from me due to an emergency. I presently expect to be paid back 20 times over for my wise generosity. Any day now.
Aligator skin purse, and $2000 in cash?
That woman is too stupid to have that much money.
I thought alligator skin was illegal. Guess not. Nope, stupid is forever.
OMG - if alligator skin is illegal what will happen to the toothless Swamp People on History Channel?
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
She should noted down the license plate, informed the cops and waited for justice to take its course, which it would have. Oh well, lesson learnt for $2K.
The milkshake in her eyes probably prevented her from seeing the license plate but she sure thought she could aim her purse correctly, didn't she?
NO, the cops wouldn't have done anything. I had an impatient driver bump my car on the interstate because I was only going 10 mph over the speed limit. I chased him around town for more than an hour at 90 mph trying to get cops to do something and they never saw us. I went to a police station, gave them his license plate number, and they said "well, it may not be worth extradicting him from Illinois for $3000 in order to pay for the damage to your car". WTF? You can't count on the authorities to help you. It is sad that these punks got money instead of what they deserved.
I agree with the dear departed Kurt V. I sometimes wish we had all been born birds, instead.
WHAT?? This is about a bunch of punks and an idiot who threw a purse w/ a bunch of$. Are you shure you read the same story the rest of did?
What kind of shake was it? Sorry, I'm a diabetic and I haven't had a shake in 12 years.
ROTFLMAO. That's funny. It might have even had sprinkles. Oh NOOOOOOOOOOO.
I can see easily the battery charges. We don't live in a country where "finders keepers" is the law. Even though she threw her purse at them, the kids must know they have it by now. Since they haven't returned the purse (or the money), they're now in possession of stolen property too. It's these kind of stupid pranks that I keep warning my son about. At least one of these charges is a a felony. Probably not what those kids thought they were up to when they threw that milkshake. They'll probably get the charges reduced eventually. But, it will cost them thousand of $'s in legal fees to do so. I'm guessing someone won't be taking the Rover out for a LONG time...
It's not stolen if it wasn't taken away. She WILLINGLY threw the purse with the money in to their car, whether intentional or not. If she can press charges saying they stole her purse, then they can press charges that she assaulted them. What this alll comes down to is PEOPLE NOT BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS. Yes, it's THEIR fault YOU threw your purse at them. No, it's YOUR fault that you were a dumb@$$ and threw it at them. You deserve to lose the purse, you should take some anger management classes and learn to take responsibility for your own actions. In Florida, it's a felony to throw something out of your vehicle at some one if it hits them.
If you have an alligator purse, you probably have a rack of credit cards inside. Where do you suppose ehe was going with 2 Gs in cash money? Probably the same place the kids wound up.
I see some problems with this whole prosecution... if it comes to that. How can the woman prove they threw it at her? Maybe they were just littering. (Good thing she didn't have a gun in her purse. She could have shot them and said she was standing her ground. LOL) If someone throws something in your moving car and you keep on moving, how can that be theft? Are you supposed to stop, turn around and return whatever they threw? Doubt you have to do that. Also since they're now $2 grand ahead -- if the woman isn't lieing about the cash in her purse -- they have a start on the legal fees. :)
Pretty regular thing in Palo Alto as far as serious crime goes.
My question - who say's it had $2k in it? The lady who threw it. Why not go for higher. Probably had a couple hundred and she wants to up the ante on the kids.
@Gerard1234: You really value human life so little that you think something like that is worth killing people over? Wow.
Actually Anonymous, I believe that would have been an inappropriate response only because killing them would have ruined her life more than losing the $2K. I for one am tired of people talking about the "value of human life" when those who started it didn't value her as a human.
Yes, she did a silly thing throwing her purse at them but she lashed out at someone who violated her as a person. Today people have zero concern for each other. It is obvious in the way they drive, the things they say, the music they blast for all to hear whether we want to hear their trash or not and in the way they dress. It is obvious in the fact that young men don't know how to hold a door for a lady or remove their hats indoors. People must be first in line, must have more than everyone else and as seen by the posts here must revel in the misery of others. People today would rather make themselves look good by making someone else look bad than make themselves look good by trying harder. Everyone thinks they are special enough for entitlements but to Hell with the next person. The losers who never made anything of themselves resent the successful and the successful will bury anyone to be more successful.
Worth their lives? Yes; they are useless, miserable rodents whose mothers should have swallowed instead of conceiving them. I'm glad she didn't have a gun; they would not be worth ruining her life over. However, it would be poetic justice if when the police find their bodies in a fatal wreck they found her purse in the vehicle also. That is where my hope lies for them right now.
As for those of you who think this is so funny, whoop it up. This is obviously about as far as you will go in life as people. You rate no higher than those punks who assaulted the woman. The funny thing is that having not hurt anyone you will spout about how angry and hateful I am. So be it; I would be just as angry if I saw someone disrespect you in this manner and would do what I could to help you.
@Fred: I do realize that it was wrong of those teenagers to throw a milkshake at the woman. In no way am I condoning the action nor do I think it's funny. I think she had every reason to be upset. But to speak with such hatred like you, to say you wish them death from a horrible car crash, I just can't fathom it. It was rude, inconsiderate, jerkish, and dumb behavior. Worth a fine? Yes. Worth punishment from parents? Sure. Worth killing them over? No. Of course it's wrong of them but to say they deserve to die over it is just ridiculous!
Anonymous, it is not a desire to murder them over this action; it is not what I consider a "murderable offense". However, if fate would do the world justice and see them wrapped around a pole, it would be due to a judgement of their heart, not a thrown milkshake.
My friend, these types of people hate . They do not throw a milkshake because it is a joke, it is an act of hatred and an act of absolute disregard for the rights, emotions and physical well being of another human being. In most cases they will prey upon some for the rest of their lives, whether it is having sex with your 15 year old daughter, stealing from your store or mugging you for giggles. The propensity to prey upon others is established with a move like this.
If a person was going through life not adversely affecting someone else and that someone else assaulted them with a fist, a milkshake, a bullet, a sharp stick, whatever, then the doer has a predatory and hateful heart and society would be benefited by their high speed demise. I called upon an act of fate and not an act of human vengeance to deal with the problem.
by the same "throwing" logic wouldn't the woman be in possession of a stolen shake? i don't see how the teens could be accused of possession of stolen property here.
If she shot one of them, would they be guilty of stealing her bullet?
Precisely. Also to that end, if they can be charged with battery for throwing a viscous liquid (milkshake), could she not be charged with the same for throwing an object that at least has the capacity to cause injury (a purse)? Seems to me these "crimes" cancel each other out tit-for-tat.
Best comment yet.
First off, people do throw things...my buddy had a jelly donut thrown at him for no reason years ago. Second, I'm sick and tired of these middle class, upper middle class and rich kids being punks....as well as the ghetto kids but more-so the rich ones. I would've caught up to that car, pulled all of them out, called the cops, slammed their punk arses on the ground for a citizen arrest. Pretty brave little punks, throwing crap from a car, at a pedestrian. You morons in here, saying it's funny and making stupid comments need your arse kicked, just like all these punks! The parents need their arse kicked as well for raising stupid punk kids!
moron
No, Not that the reaction was justified but one was unprovoked which caused the other one to react. An unprovoked attack weighs more heavily than the reaction to it. That's not tit for tat. What u would have would be chaos as you would lump provoked and unprovoked in the same category.
Yeah...I always get even with kids who throw milkshakes at me by throwing my wallet at them. Makes perfect sense.
simple and to the point...HA, HA! Here's your sign.
@Justajoey, cool profile picture, love it.
Fast Food....
If I'm on the jury, the kids walk. If they took it from her arm, I say hang them. She threw it at them. Too bad, sad.
I'm with you. I would put some 7.62×39mm on their ass
you would have killed a bunch of kids for throwing a milkshake?..........I'll take pranking teenagers over murderous moronic adults with severe tough guy complexes any day of the week..........so totally pathetic
Not everyone likes pranks.
Don't want to take the chances of pissing someone off and getting shot? Don't throw milkshakes at people. They got away with it pretty much this time- but what happens next time if someone does shoot them?
Sure that person will be strung up, but when does anyone address the causing behavior in the first place?
While I don't agree they need to be shot, I do happen to feel people who excuse their actions simply as a prank are the pathetic ones. You and those like you are the ones that set up situations where the kids do get shot- because you're just fine and dandy with laughing it off.
You're kidding. The kids do something very disrespectful and provokes an attack to which the woman reacted and you say too bad for the woman who was minding her own business ?
My defense would be that I thought the woman was paying for the milkshake.
yeah, I guess that showed them. Seriously??
Well that was dumb.
