Connecticut mom accused of video recording abuse of 10-month-old

A Connecticut woman is charged with abusing her 10 month-old and recording the incidents with her phone.

A Connecticut mother is accused of abusing her 10-month-old baby and videorecording the incidents.

Police in West Haven, Conn., arrested Kellie Park, 20, last week after the baby’s father contacted authorities saying she texted him videos of her tormenting, berating and assaulting the infant, according to a police report.

In one video, Park is heard telling the baby to “eat stuff off the floor, this is what your dad wants me to do,” police said.

West Haven Police

Kellie Park is accused of tormenting her 10-month-old child and videotaping the incidents.

In another, the baby is seen screaming and crying in a high chair as Park asks if the infant is hungry, while throwing food at the child. Police say Park can be seen taking the baby from the high chair and putting the infant in a portable crib and shaking the crib, causing the child to fall out. She can be heard saying “shake it up” on the video.

Park was arrested June 20 and charged with third-degree assault, cruelty to persons, risk of injury and threatening.

Police said Park also sent separate text messages to the father.

The texts included “ill (expletive) break her face,” “ill beat her (expletive) face in” and “i love abusing this kid,” police said.

After seeing the videos and texts, West Haven detectives immediately took custody of the child, who was transported to a hospital for evaluation and then taken into care by the Department of Children and Families in Hartford, Conn.

In a statement to msnbc.com, DCF Commissioner Joette Katz said, "We are actively investigating this matter, and the child is no longer in the mother's care. In addition, we are working with the police in pursuit of this case."

DCF spokesman Gary Kleeblatt told msnbc.com that the first step when taking any child into their care is to determine if there is an appropriate relative to care for the child.

“If a parent is unable to care for a child safely, then we would look to see if another relative like the father or grandmother is appropriate,” Kleeblatt said. “If that’s not possible, we’ll look to see if we can identify a licensed foster home.”

Officers had been called to Park's address earlier in the day because she attempted to kill herself, according to the police report.

Park is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is due back in court July 11.

A 7 year old black girl was shot and killed in Chicago and there's about 1100 comments( mostly racist of course) and here we have barely 100 comments? Need I say more?

If she will do this to an infant , she is capable of the cruelest inhumane acts against any human .The laws are quick to hand out stiff sentencing guide lines, this girl should face the harshest possible, right there w/ murder, rape and molesters. She belongs where they are.

so much for living in a post-racial America. Joe it is a horrible tragedy that a 7 year old black girl was killed in Chicago. What makes it ever so much worse, is how the Black man in America is exploited by The Jesse Jacksons, the Al Sharptons, the black democratic caucus, the Democratic party as a whole. Welcome to the new plantation, Joe. As long as you keep on voting for the Dems and the Obamas your plight will always remain the same. The "war on poverty" has done nothing to lift Black Americans. In the '70s we were baraged by blaxploitation movies, now we get blaxploitation politics. Name me one black democrat that has held his community accountable. Where is Al, Jessse, or Barry calling out for a cease fire in Chicago. I have heard not a word from Maxine Waters regarding the tragically high illegitimacy rates in the black community and the fallout that has come from it.(Gangs, poverty, drug abuse, prostitution, domestic violence) Let us look at some statistics, DOJ stats say that I am 10 times more likely to be shot and killed by someone that looks like you, rather than you being shot by someone that looks like me. I could go on but that is not helpful. It plays in to Barry's plan of balkinizing our country. Pitting rich against poor, black against white, red state against blue state, it goes on and on. When did we lose track of the fact that we are all American's? Did we forget that God is color blind. Was it not King that said I should judge you by the content of your character, rather than the color of your skin....Shouldn't you do the same? It is a tragedy when any child dies.

I agree, and there is nothing that could ever be thought or said to remotely justify what she did. Since there is recorded evidence, guilt is not questionable.

missy, right now my niece had her baby "stolen" by the excon alcoholic unemployed father and she has to wait weeks for a court date. Apparently whoever has the baby in possession and files for custody at that very moment (aka post abduction)... you have to wait for a court hearing. So, although she was the one caring for the baby (they got kicked out of his mother's place so she took the baby and herself to my parents), he came and said he was taking the child for an hour long visit to his dads (but instead went to the police station and filed for custody.)

Unfortunately, she is a naive 18 year old and the police refuse even to take his threats seriously (I'm going to kill your family). Talk about feeling powerless; the police only care about shoplifting at KMart.

And the Right to Life folks feel that every pregnant woman should become a mother, even if they don't have the foggiest notion of what that means. I'll never understand their thinking.

Lord help us. We have an evil and stupid person. Please let the court see the video's prove she is not fit to care for a child and never, ever let her near that child or any other child, again. I hope she goes to prison for a very long time.

it makes you wonder what kind of mind she has that she can say and do such things to a 10 month old child. It almost makes one believe in demonic possession. Evil truly does exist and is in the hearts of some people.

Is it about being stupid, lola? Or is it about someone so depraved that torturing the child wasn't satisfying enough? She wanted to vent her rage on the sperm donor as well.

Her booking photo reveals her lack of the merest shred of decency.

No. It's about being a cruel, evil twisted individual that took her infantile rage out on an innocent infant. But to record it as well, sheer stupidity. Which turned out to be helpful to this poor baby she was abusing.
In her photo she has absolutely no emotion. No remorse, no decency, as you stated. She has the look on her face of an entitled brat that was inconvenienced with having to raise her child and took it out on the baby.

I was 17 when I had my son. A senior in High School. I love my child more than life. Was it a smart thing to do, to have a child then? No. While I am PRO choice, I would never do it. I thought of adoption, because how the heck was I going to raise a child? The moment he was born, he owned my heart. I will forever be grateful the first adoptive family backed out (they wanted a boy, and my ultra sounds were inconclusive) and that he was born early...before I found another family. Now, 10 years later, I am still wrapped sround my son's little finger.

The point of that is not all "young" mom's are like this woman. Please don't lump us all in with garbage like this.

I agree that not every woman is ready to raise children at any age but this is what happens when a spoiled, self-entitled brat isn't even responsible enough to use birth control. I waited until ALL of my wild was out and my kids will never fear I will become crazy like that. Of course I was in my 30's when all that wild finally got out. Now the most immature thing I do is running in the sprinklers with them. Of course some women are ready to do it at younger ages and alot of my freinds are now getting theirs out of the house and doing their partying now that the baby is off to college. I don't miss it though and they always told me I was missing out not having kids back then.

Women need to be taught from birth on that men do not find you having their baby romantic, it will not make them stay with you and it most certainly will not make them love you. If anything getting pregnant will drive them away. This creature should never be allowed to have another child. To harm this baby to take revenge on the @!$%# who fathered her is horrific and she should never be allowed another chance at custodial parenthood.

Some men get their woman pregnant on purpose, so that she's stuck with him. Many women who are barfing up with morning sickness, or have a bowling ball on their bladders aren't in any shape to leave.

I believe if he wanted the child he would have gone and got her rather then to let the police and social services handle it. It is obvious this child was a toy to control the man which we all know doesn't work and we all can devise by the article neither does the father.

Unfortunately, the courts will probably do all they can to keep the baby in the family, so the baby can learn over and over again how mean mommy was, and look! let's go visit mommy so she can have some bonding time and therapy, and when she gets out of prison, you two can be a family again!

Or give the baby to the father, who cared enough to call the cops, but who is probably all ready married with kids with his current wife (or girlfriend), and doesn't really want the reminder of the crazy lady living with him, nor does his current woman, but the extended family will insist that he "man up" and take the baby.

In short, the baby should be placed in a closed adoption in another town, with no call-backs. But she won't be.

And people wonder why so many Americans adopt babies from out of the country.

                  #22.1 - Wed Jun 27, 2012 6:40 PM EDT

She loved to abuse the baby, huh? We will see how much she will love to be found guilty of child abuse and how much she will love life in jail. With that kind of attitude, any baby, born to her should be taken away from her after she is found guilty.

By the way, does anyone think that it is coincidence that child abuse went up after Jan 1973?

3rd degree assault? What's up with that? What ever happened to child endangerment with the intent to do bodily harm? Murder on her mind perhaps? Even if they find her mentally incompetent with a phsych eval, this type of person should be sterilized and denied the privilege of having children. Makes one wonder how many other abused, innocent children are left in dire circumstances like the authorities did to this child after her mom attempted suicide? They, along with the mother, need to be investigated for incompetence and dereliction of duty.
