Why is it most posts here are focused on this suspects size? The reason for the article is to make the public aware of #1 the story and #2, there was a possible eye witness who described what this suspect looks like with hopes someone could identify him and he could be questioned. The fact that these two young women are gay really has little to do with the fact at this point other than to warn there may be a serial killer looking to kill lesbian couples. It can't/shouldn't be described as a "hate crime" until the motive is discovered.

I'm not sure what else you would call it then. An absence of all feeling, all ability to have and hold love; an inability to feel or even comprehend empathy, compassion for the lives of someone else. And then there's the part about firing a hunk of lead through the heads of two young girls. That might point to something less than those positive characteristics. It makes no difference to me what you may or may not call them. To me, it kind of clearly defines hate to its most basic core.

If this had been a heterosexual couple, they would have said something like "Young couple is shot" or "Young lovers are shot." The reason they used the term "lesbian" is because so many people have trouble visualizing two women in a loving relationship.

I think they're setting it up just in case it turns out to be motive. Although people have killed randomly before. I tend to lean toward the guy seeing them and trying to rob them. By visual glance I'd say he needed drugs. Assuming he is the killer. But just like everybody else here, that's just speculation. None of us know anything about what happened, or why the guy picked these two young ladies. Everybody will just have to wait for the facts to come in.

Hatred doesn't need to be incited, it's already all over the place. What hatred needs, is to be called out and brought out of the dark.

One's a preconceived, biased, notion which is directed at an entire group, the other is a response to that notion. It is MSN that has made a big deal of their "reported" sexuallity! We don't know anything of the sort yet.

There are many crimes of numerous categories not reported on "national news" outlets; many only reach "local." Case in point, in Tennessee, a white (hetero) couple was kidnapped at gunpoint by four black men. The couple was taken to a house where both were subsequently gang raped, variously tortured, genital mutilation, bleach poured down the womans throat, she was dismembered and put in trash can, and he was burned with gasoline whoknowswhere. Of the four perpetrators, one received the death penatly. This did not make national news because, according to one report, it did not fit a qualifying category; "black on white racial sex crime," heinous murder, kidnapping, nothing...personally, I think MSN just missed it.

Think of it another way. Their sexual orientation may or may not have had something to do with the killer's motive, but does EVERY headline have to reference "lesbian" as their defining characteristic? Many crimes of passion have to do with sexuality, but the victim isn't usually referred to as a "heterosexual" in the headline.

Also, plenty of heterosexuals post photos of themselves kissing without being accused of flaunting it. (It's not as though they posted the photo knowing it would get national attention.) THEY did nothing wrong.

So admitting that these two young women were lovers, a couple, is wrong? Whether this was a hate crime or not, their status as a couple should not be questioned, second-guessed, or eliminated. If a hetero couple had been killed, the report would read "Young couple killed" or "Young lovers killed." Hate crime or not, their status as a couple is important, and the only way people will understand that is by the use of the term "lesbian," for now. Hopefully things will change.

I was raised in the Bible Belt and personally saw the outward hatred, and persecution from the religious closet queers early in life. The people with the guilty conscious are the ones with the greatest ability to harm others for their own personal, hidden desires. In the deep south these things are expected to remain in the shadows and not talked about. In the mean time, generations of family members are subjected to the quiet indoctrination of incest and early sexual exposure. That is not the worst part though. The worst part of this cycle is the perpetrators who yell the loudest are the ones who are likely to have perpetrated against younger family members of close friends of the family. We are not so different as other culture from around the world. Arranged marriages, and having inter family agreements are common everywhere. Remember the Religious compound in Texas where young girls were being groomed to become wives of notable older male members of the church? There were hundreds investigated and only one ever went to trial and was dropped. The church was validated for all intents and purposes in the practice.

The guy who attacked the Girls is without a doubt a Psychopath capable of cold bloodied murder up close and personal. I would speculate he knows the girls or has been observing them. He is probably either religious, or was influenced by religion at some time. He is probably a Sociopath and has difficulty in maintaining close relationships. The traits listed above are listed as typical but do not specifically indicate a sociopath evolving into a psychopath. The guy owns a large caliber handgun or has access to one. As I understand it the girls were in a large grassy area some distance from the boardwalk. There are places like that in and around the entire Gulf coast. I can say from experience that people usually do not stray into the high grass because of Snakes and Mosquito's. This means that he either knew them, or promised not to harm them if they complied. Since one of the girls is alive, hopefully the perp will be identified and some distant cousin of the girls will save the taxpayers some money.

The gun will probably show up again if the perp is not soon found. These are expensive and to throw a large caliber handgun away is not likely.
