I still don't understand the Trayvon Martin supporters who ignore the fact that Trayvon was a 5' 11" 158 pound high school athlete. George Zimmerman was/is a 5' 8" 204 pound desk jockey. Zimmerman's BMI is 31; he is obese. How in the heck could Zimmerman catch Martin? The only way is if Martin let him. Martin had only two injuries: The gunshot wound to his chest and an abrasion on one of his ring fingers. Again, if Martin were trying to get away, how the heck did he come to be shot in the chest at close range?

Eyewitness testimony put both men on the ground with Zimmerman on the bottom.

The trial will determine whether George Zimmerman is guilty of a crime. I make no predictions as to the outcome. I do know that there is a lot of fiction which has been written about this case.

The black racist bigots care!! They stand to make a little $$$ from this !! High bail is nothing but trying to satisfy the black panthers and their cronies!!!

People seem to keep forgetting that Zimmeriman also did sonething else that made him a flight risk. When the court found out that he was milti-national he was pordered to turn in any passports. He withheld his Peruvian passport when the court and turned in only his American passport.

How did this guy (Zimmerman) raise a million dollars overnight. This morning or last night not sure which his lawyer was begging for money from the public to get him out. Zimmerman does stop 5 seconds after being told to not follow. On the 911 call, you can hear him say ok after being told not to follow, then Zimm stops running most likely because he can no longer see Trayvon. He's on the phone with the police another 90 seconds after this point, then there is another 90 seconds before the fight starts. Yet the fight occurs at a spot 10 seconds from his truck, and 30 seconds away from Trayvon's house which is at the end of the walkway. If Trayvon didn't want to fight, it wouldn't have happened.

In the end, they are both morons.

You think you resonated you ridiculous point well? Did you forget that Z was arrested before for a similar situations? The audio of the 911 call wasn't incriminating enough for you? He was told to not pursue and did anyway? And somehow this is TM fault?

For arguments sake, I'll ask, was GZ life EVER in danger here? Simply no. 1. He was the aggressor, and 2. He had a weapon. Stand Your Ground doesn't even apply here since he wasn't even on his own property, and wasn't even fired upon.

If TM was a 3rd degree black belt and was close enough to whip the sh*t out of GZ, like he deserves, I would sympathize with GZ for getting whipped. The police video clip of him entering the station hardly shows a whipping, as he claimed it did. Even if it did, it didn't call for deadly force.

Samantha, in reality, Zimmerman was shot at INTERMEDIATE range. That is a distance of 8 inches to 3.5 feet. I would challenge you to get on the ground with someone on top of you, and try to hold a weapon at least 8 inches from the person on top of you. He would have been holding the gun above his head in order to match the ballistics from the wound. Keep trying to make that work somehow.

The judge called Zimmerman and his entire family deceitful and said Zimmerman's deceptions applied to a number of issues, not just his finances. The judge said that he is troubled by Zimmerman's criminal history that showed he was prone to violence.

Zimmerman's story has changed several times. I'm hesitant to believe anything he says. And it's sickening that of all the worthy causes out there, people throw money at this creep who already has a criminal record. Which there's been an effort to hide. There's also Trayvon's girlfriend, who he was on the phone with, who says he was chased down. I hope the prosecution brings that up. Who would be on the phone with someone, while approaching another person with the intention to fight? Doesn't make sense. You'd hang up and put the phone in your pocket.

So Steve Nichols thinks that Zimmerman should have had some form of defensive wounds "because everyone fights back," right? Let me sit on your torso and smash your head on the ground. How many solid punches can you land with me that close to you and you lying flat on your back? The best you could do is an abbreviated round house punch that has to miss my shoulders to him me in the head. Remember, you are flat on your back, so where is your elbow? Can it go behind you at all? Nope. So your strikes would be weak at best, leaving no marks at all.

So now let's consider the same scenario but the person on the bottom has a gun either in their jacket pocket or a holster at their side or on small of their back. If Zimmerman was reaching back to get his weapon would he be punching Martin? I should think this would be impossible to consider.

In Zimmerman's re-enactment he stated that he was on his back and having his head pounded into the pavement so hard he thought his head would explode, then he had his gun in his hand and shot TM at close range. Zimmerman stated that Martin said, "You got me" and then rolled off. I should think that ballistics and the presence of a muzzle powder burn on TM will make this case very clear.

So before all you armchair CSI fans rule one way or the other let the evidence speak in this case. Forget the NBC edited 911 tape which was BS, forget the commentary from everyone, and wait until that evidence is presented. It will either exonerate GZ or not. But be certain, there is no way the medical examiner cannot figure out the range of the shot or the angle of the bullet. Clearly, if Martin was standing in front of Zimmerman and backing away the bullet angle would be roughly horizontal with the level of the gun compared to Zimmerman's height AND the powder burn would be non-existent with distance (Zimmerman would be guilty). If the bullet trajectory was angled from the side consistent with Zimmerman's dominant hand and at point blank range with a powder burn, then Zimmerman will walk out a free man.

Probably simple as that.

Zimmerman was not on patrol, he was coming back from Target, and was totally within his legal rights to carry a concealed pistol. Zimmerman was a resident of the crime ridden neighborhood, and earlier joined with other residents in a Neighborhood Watch Committee, totally legal. He observed a suspicious appearing person that fit the profile of earlier break-ins of the complex. One could say if Trayvon was minding his business, and didn't appear as a thug, he would be alive. Unless his business was choosing a likely target to be robbed that is. Is this race driven bs, if I were Zimmerman, I would get the hell out of this country that is so damned quick to call out the race card.

The basic fact of this arguement is easy, none of us were there and so we do not know what happened that night. As such, you should not base your opinion of what happened there or be influeanced by any of the talking heads who were not there either. Neither Zimmerman or Martin were perfect people with spotless records. BTW there are no dangerous weapons only dangerous people. Actually, GZ's Story has not changed several times. If you recall, NBC was busted for doctoring the 911 recordings and stating inaccuracies (lies) to give the appearance that GZ was a sleazy, racist, liar. I would not have cared one way or the other about him until I saw the press out to destroy him. Simply put yourself in that situation. Also, to all of those people who are against him, what if his story is true? Would you apologize for your attacks? We all know the answer. No, you wouldn't.

Hmm. According to the police report, the officers who responded on the scene found Martin lying face-down in the grass with his hands under his body. In the 911 call in which the shot was heard, the caller, a female, says she sees two men struggling in her backyard. This is the call when you can hear the screaming, then the shot, and the screaming stops. The female caller wonders aloud 'why did he shoot that man?' and then shortly thereafter she tells the 911 dispatcher she can see flashlights, which the dispatcher then identifies as police.

At no point does the caller describe anything that sounds (to me) like he was 'pinning Martin down'.

Real AmeriCAN, you have obviously NEVER watched any MMA fights, otherwise you would know that you can fight from the bottom just fine. Even more challenging for you is the gunshot wound. Get on the ground with someone so close to you, and on top of you. Now figure out where you would have to be holding a gun to shoot someone at intermediate range, which is 8 inches to 3.5 feet. How far back over your head does your hand have to be to accomplish that leaving enough room for the barrel of the weapon? Those details are already available, and the shot was NOT at point blank range, rather intermediate range.

So much for the previous claims that the Zimmermans "have no money"........

Actually the Jury isn't the final word. You have the state court of appeals and then the state supreme court if he is found guilty and they appeal.

Now, granted, the first and third accounts are hearsay and therefore cannot be construed as Zimmerman's actual words, so one needs to make the determination for themselves how much the story may have changed because of the middleman's (in this case, Zimmerman's father and Martin's father) perception of the case. And your determination is skewed because of how you perceive the case.

Also note that the author who wrote this may be somewhat biased in Martin's favor as evidenced by usage of Zimmerman's last name and Martin's first. Journalistic objectivity wold have been indicated by using both last names or both first names. You will see it on these message boards, too; those who claim to be objective and unbiased are still subconsciously using a mix of both last and first names.

Chris, these things are straight lines. What longer route is there to take when you supposedly fear for your life? Even if Trayvon was purposely avoiding a fight, there are 5 exits to this area he could have taken or he could have circled to the front of his house through one of these exits. It's only 30 seconds run distance to his destination. Even if he walked slow, the fight would not have happened in that spot unless Trayvon wanted it to. I'm not saying that Zimm can't run, I'm just saying he can't run as fast as Trayvon. Both Zimm and Deedee says Trayvon ran. That is why Zimm got out of the car in the first place because Trayvon started running away.

This is good news for Zimmerman.

It does not mean that he is Innocent.

It means that the State of Florida is out to get him, but good. Florida Police messed up this case from the very beginning, just like they messed up the Casey Anthony case.

What is the truth. It is hard to speculate; there were no eye witnesses; the Investigators first altering the 911 Calls that came through by Zimmerman to their own satisfaction. Did they have to prove this was a Racist case or, it was just 2 gang like people having a miserable fight together. It ended up in the murder of Trayvon Martin.

There is no specific DNA, or evidence that proves right now it was an intended murder. Where did the Racism come into play?

Was Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson listening to the news Media describe the murder from February, and they smelled big money for themselves, promoting Racism and the "old, tiring story" of Civil Rights again. those "restrictions" are there because he is being charged with murder and the absent minded district attorney there figured the guy was not a flight risk, a liar, but not a flight risk. go figure. nobody gives a rats a ss about his safety. his wife should be in jail as well for conspiring with him to lie to the court about their finances in order to get a lower bail. that alone should have clued the court in about how "believable" or "trustworthy" anything he might say is. i wonder if trayvon martin would have been treated so generously if the shoe were on the other foot.

Oh crap, here we go another OJ Simpson Case. GZ will probably get off and be sued for all his money in a Civil Suite. OR The judge finds out about GZ's lawyers plea for money on his what ever account and puts both of them in jail. If I were the Judge I would. Florida is always hurting for money, this case should have been wrapped up long ago and on to the next.

Don't want to argue who was right and who was wrong. Just wanted to correct one thing I have read. If you post bond you are not paying the entire amount. You are usually paying 10 to 15 percent. If you post bail then it is the full amount. When you post bond a bonds men will post the full amount and you will post some sort of collateral to cover the amount if you flee.

Ok one more thing. Why do all of you have to attack anyone who has a different opinion on this case. I have read many posts on both sides that had valid points. I like to read what each side thinks. I don't like to see on every post things like "you are so stupid".

I think that both of them were stupid. I think that both of them made mistakes. One is dead and the other will have to live with his mistakes. I have no clue what is going to happen in court and by reading all the comments and the evidence that had been released I think it could go either way. I just hope that people will accept the decision the jury makes and that they don't riot if it doesn't go their way. Yes that statement is for both sides.

Well, Travon is deceased and cant tell his side of the story. George Zimmerman can paint the picture however he wants to. People can cry out the defense story all day, but it boils down to common sense. Zimmerman confronted someone innocent with a gun and murdered that young man in cold blood. Yeah, George Zimmerman was getting his tail whooped by Trayvon, but instead of fighting him like a man, he chose the cowards way out. He was all big and bold to confront Trayvon, and when Trayvon turned around and beat his tail, he went and ran for a gun. That is not self-defense when you confront someone physically. If anything Trayvon was defending himself, and he lost his life in the battle. George Zimmerman will pay the price for his actions. I bet if he could turn back the hands of time, he would not have been a busy body and would have minded his own business. George Zimmerman brought all this stuff on himself and have caused the Martin family turmoil and grief. I don't like how people are trying to turn this around on Trayvon, the deceased, like he was the one at fault. That young man was walking down the street, minding his own business, and his life was taken from him. I don't care if Trayvon was white, black, or purple. Zimmerman was arrested for killing someone before? Must have missed that.

Listen to the call. He is told that they "did not need" him to follow the person. That is to cover the police's but. If you were following, and talking to the police, then you get killed or injured, they would be open for a lawsuit. Also, it is not illegal to continue to follow, they have no authority to make you stop because you are not doing anything illegal. And on top of that if you listen to the tape, you will hear him running, talking to the operator. The operator says that they do not need him to follow him, and just a couple of seconds later, you hear him say OK, and stop running.

If someone is on top of you, punching you, breaking your nose, and pounding your head into the concrete, your life is in danger. Each blow could knock you out, put you in a coma or leave permanent damage.

He was not the aggressor. If I see someone that I find suspicious, and I walk up to them, am I being the aggressor? Do they then have the right to attack me because I approached them?

Stand your ground does not have to be on your property. Stand your ground has nothing to do with guns. It is if you are in fear for your safety or life, you can use deadly force without trying to get away.

Martin was close enough to whip the sh*t out of Zimmerman, evidenced by the broken nose, the lacerations to the back of the head and the eyewitness that places Martin on top of Zimmerman.

I can honestly say, I am disappointed in the Florida Judicial system. I am wondering are these folks running on their own set of rules? George Zimmerman allowed another bail? Even after a judge suspects that Mr. Zimmerman was planning a life on the lam? The fact is this man shot an unarmed kid. I do not care what race, color or creed this boy was, all I care is that justice will be served in this case. I have read article written about this case, and I believe that the stand your ground, or self-defense applies to Trayvon Martin. During the 911 call, Mr. Zimmerman was advised to stop following Trayvon and let the police handle the situation. Mr. Zimmerman then proceeded to ignore the directive and get out of his vehicle, armed, and confront Trayvon Martin. A 17 year old boy, who happend to be wearing a hoodie, who was talking on his cell phone to his girlfriend. The decision that Mr. Zimmerman made, getting out of his vehicle started a chain of events that could have been avoided. At this point, Trayvon Martin had every right to defend himself. 17 years, that is all his parents would have with their son. In this country murder is a crime, a serious crime and George Zimmerman must face the consequences of his actions.

How else will you explain that the fight is 10 seconds from Zimm's car, and 30 seconds from Trayvon's house, yet there is a 3 to 3.5 minute gap of when Zimm gets out of his car to when the fight starts (with half that time while still on the phone with police)? When an aggressor hits you and/or holds you down, contrary to what you assume, you are not always able to fight and punch back, you may be trying to get him off you but you can't always hit back. As a 5'5" woman I doubt I would be able to hit/fight back effectively against a 6'+ guy.

here's the real question ...what gave zimmerman the right to follow this boy anywhere ? Nothng I have seen has done that. If the boy had been snicking around..maybe,...but going home in the rain..? Exactly what is it that Trayvon did other than be walking down the street ?..If anyone else had been followed..they would have been deeply concerned...that is an adult would have..and an adult most likely would have been shot by Zimmerman all the same if he had been black. Hmm. According to the police report, the officers who responded on the scene found Martin lying face-down in the grass with his hands under his body. In the 911 call in which the shot was heard, the caller, a female, says she sees two men struggling in her backyard. This is the call when you can hear the screaming, then the shot, and the screaming stops. The female caller wonders aloud 'why did he shoot that man?' and then shortly thereafter she tells the 911 dispatcher she can see flashlights, which the dispatcher then identifies as police.

At no point does the caller describe anything that sounds (to me) like he was 'pinning Martin down'.

I never said you were quoting a witness. My intent in using that particular quote from your post was to introduce the point I wanted to discuss.

Yes, I understood that it was Zimmerman who said he pinned Martin down after shooting him. I'm pointing out the illogic in that section of his account. I'm pointing out that there was an eyewitness to that part of the struggle and the shooting, who was on the phone with 911 at the time, and did not describe to the dispatcher anything like what Zimmerman says he did.

When forming my opinions about the facts of the case, I haven't paid much attention to eyewitnesses and what others are saying about what someone else said about what someone heard. I'm basing my opinions from the police reports, coroner's reports, medical examiner's reports, court records from Zimmerman's prior brushes with the law, and whatever I can find of the 911 calls from that night (which may or may not be edited, as it can sometimes be hard to tell, but while people and certain biased news media outlets have apparently been editing the calls made by Zimmerman in order to support their theory of the incident, sound clips from other 911 callers have largely been left intact, and so I feel that the call in which you hear the screaming and the shots is a verifiable, and important, part of the evidence. And this portion of the evidence, this 911 call, to me does not support Zimmerman's assertion that he 'pinned' Martin down.

1917 hours (7:17 PM)--Zimmerman calls/officers dispatched

1921 hours (approximate)--Zimmerman's call to 911 ends after 4 min 21 sec; at this point Martin is still alive.

1922 hours (approximately)--911 caller is on the phone saying two men are fighting outside her back porch. Sounds of a struggle and a person calling for help is heard, and then one shot rings out about 45 seconds into that call. By the time the caller hangs up with 911, police are on the scene, as attested to by the caller stating that she has seen a flashlight. That would have been the first officer on the scene.

1930 hours--Paramedic Brady declares Martin dead after Officer Ayala, Sergeant Raimondo, Sergeant McCoy, and Paramedic Brady himself have attempted to revive Martin unsucessfully.

Now, I'm still trying to find a CREDIBLE link to a timestamp for the 911 call in which the shot is heard; if we know exactly when that call was initiated, we'll know exactly how much time elapsed between Zimmerman hanging up (and Martin being alive) and the exact moment when he died. For me, that is the last piece of the puzzle I'm lacking. If anyone can point me to a credible, official link to this last timestamp, I feel we'll have a reasonable picture.

Nevertheless, given the partial timeline above, would Zimmerman have had a chance to do everything he says he did in those minutes between hanging up with 911 and the sound of the gunshot in the 911 call?

And for everyone who says that dispatchers can advise but you are not required to follow the advice...I used to dispatch for Animal Control in my municipality. A woman's chow trespassed in her neighbor's yard and attempted to attack the neighbor's pit. Mistake. She was on the phone telling me she was going to go over and yell at the owner of the pit, I told her I had Animal Control on the way and I did not need her to talk to the owner of the other dog, Animal Control would handle all communications. Against advice, she went and started screaming at the neighbor, who subsequently filed a harassment suit, which he won later when I testified to the court that my instructions, per Animal Control's script for 'dog on dog attack', were that we did not need her to speak to the owner of the other dog, we would handle all communications.

Actual officers sit down and construct scripts for dispatchers to tell people over the phone. (If person says yes to question A, then go to script line B. If person says no to question A, then go to script line C.) There isn't one for EVERY situation, but for common incidents, particularly ones involving injury or death of human or animal, in which lawsuits might be filed, there is a script and dispatchers have been fired for deviating from that script.

I should add here that this is the case in MY municipality, FL may have different laws...

Zimmerman will walk out of court with a NOT GUILTY verdict. Why? Because all of which Zimmerman has presented to the officials and witnesses support his version of the story. Travon attacked him. AND the word attacked is not used lightly here. What George did was not break the law. He is allowed to follow and watch someone in his neighborhood and report his suspicions, which he did. Why did not Travon call 911 if he was scared or beeline to his I think Aunt's house? He chose to go back and attack Zimmerman. Never the less it is an unbelievable tragedy.

Has anyone noticed the words that the Zimmerman posters use to attack the Trayvon advocates?

Since the beginning of June the main focus on Zimmerman has been his credibility issues. Thus, the posters for Zimmerman now are attacking with words like "liar" , "lie", and "deceive".

When the main focus on Zimmerman was the question as to whether or not he used racial profiling as a watch captain, the posters on the vine thread used words related to that quality to attack posters they did not agree with.

George will be acquitted. He is innocent. The Martin kid was a punk and George was over zealous in his duties. But he had a right to shoot anyone that got on top of him and bashed his head in. If Zimm is the aggressor, the fight could never occur where it occurred. Even after he hangs up the phone with the police minutes after their initial encounter, there is another 90 seconds before the fight starts. Yet the fight occurs at a spot 10 seconds from his truck, and 30 seconds away from Trayvon's house which is at the end of the walkway. I want to know how you pull out a gun, that both of you apparently saw, and pull the trigger. Think about it, do you keep punching the man who has drawn a gun? Is it even necessary to shoot an unarmed once you've brandished lethal force?

Picture yourself with another person sitting on your stomach. You manage to get to your weapon, pull it, raise it above your head to get enough clearance from their chest to make an intermediate gunshot wound (8 inches to 3.5 feet). That would place the weapon well above your head where you could not aim reliably, and would allow the person on top to pin your hand above your head easily. It does not seem like this is feasible if the person on top is also actively beating on you, as was claimed. It does not make sense at all.

I read somewhere that he is only required to to put up 10% of the bail and a bondsman will cover the rest.

Especially considering that his lawyer was asking for donations the last 2 days. He can't make the million bail as he only needed to cover 10% of it while bail bonds would cover the rest, but that is still money he will need to pay back. I'm surprised people are willing to pitch in to help when it's obvious that both Zimmerman and his wife were trying to hide how much they had collected. As this situation is somewhat separate from the trial itself, both Zimmermans LIED about their finances. Keep that in mind, especially since there are phone recordings that prove both were using code regarding how much they needed to transfer over and Zimmerman's lawyer was involved (whether their lawyer new the full details or not).

And I assume that nearly everyone knows that only 10% of the bail has to be paid for one to be set free. I think $100,000 is an enormous amount! I do not pack and am a proud member of that group. Not to say I am not armed; someone breaks into my house they are going to get a taste of how the Samurai used to deal with egg heads however I will never own a gun. Guns are not a necessity in our lives, we should only need them in times of war as the constitution claimed until the SC changed it (before then it firearms were for use in state militia's only). Guns make people feel more powerful then they ought to be; for some people that power goes to their heads. There are people that own guns that do not have the proper training to use said guns. I am a full support of a law that requires gun owners to submit to police level fire arm training for their weapons, at their own expense of course, in order to curtail HWS; holding while stupid. How many fatalities have their been from gun accidents this year so far?

Guns have only one purpose and that is to kill stuff, be it humans or animals (technically the same thing though). Guns are not meant to be displayed like a trophy, that was not what they were designed for. Unless you are a cop I do not care if you have a gun as long as it stays concealed. The people that walk around with their guns in full view are the ones you need to watch out for although I have only see two people in my 19 years here in AZ who have walked around brandishing weapons.

The NRA is just like any other special interest group, they are not some mystical important organization, they only serve to lobby Congress and overrule the will of the people that elected their congress members to reign in some of our more out of control gun laws. For example no one needs to own a machine gun, no one needs to own an assault rifle, no one needs to own a .50 cal. These weapons will never see their intended use as tools of war. Anyone hunting with a .50 cal sniper rifle is over compensating for something else.

Big-G, we do not know the full story so your assertion is faulty. There are only two truths about this case:

1. If Zimmerman made Treyvon fear for his life then Treyvon was within the scope of SYG to attempt to protect himself; SYG does not only apply to deadly force with firearms.

2. If Zimmerman had obeyed the dispatcher and remained in his truck the chance of these events happening would have been much less.

The ruling will come down to this:

If it is found that Zimmerman was the one who instigated the confrontation by exceeding the bounds of his authority as a Neighborhood Watch captain then he will be found guilty.

If it is found that Zimmerman did not instigate the altercation through he actions prior to it then he will be found not guilty or maybe get a heavily reduced sentence.

Zimmerman's lawyer is being coy about who or what was put up the $1 million bond collateral. Cute, but it will come out. The NRA does have a vested interested in this case. They lobbied in Florida and other states for this law. What's odd, among many other things, is the NRA isn't publically supporting Zimmerman. They were able to pressure sufficient numbers in Congress to have them go after the Attonrey General. Odd that they don't go after the Florida DA and judge.
