Another sign of the (heat) times: thousands of dead fish

J. Miles Cary / Knoxville News Sentinel via AP

Crews using rakes and an industrial vacuum remove dead fish from Butterfly Lake in Knoxville, Tenn., on Monday. Some 10,000 bluegills died.

In lakes and rivers across parched areas of the U.S., heat and lower water levels are reducing oxygen levels -- and killing fish populations by the thousands.

At one lake in Delaware, up to 6,000 dead gizzard shad and 600 perch were found floating this week.

"Aggravating this summertime problem, increased temperatures lead to warmer water, which holds less dissolved oxygen," state natural resources spokesman John Clark told NBCPhiladelphia.com.

In South Carolina, some 500 fish died at Lake Hartwell.

Celebrating the warm summer months, as schools let out and the cooling off begins

"It started Sunday afternoon," local resident Brandi Pierce told NBC affiliate WYFF-TV. "We started seeing ten fish popping up out of the water. Then Monday, it was full."

Across South Dakota, fishermen have reported thousands of fish kills in multiple lakes and rivers.

And in Tennessee, a fish kill on Butterfly Lake left a horrid stench in one Knoxville neighborhood.

"It's really putrid," Paula Gumpman, president of the local neighborhood association, told the Knoxville News Sentinel. "It's like after a hurricane. Gooky and yucky."

Some 10,000 bluegills were thought to have died, and city workers were tasked with the cleanup even though the lake is on private property.

"It's a public health issue," said Public Service Director David Brace, "and it just smells real bad."

So what did they call it when the same thing was going on millions of years ago. The planet has always gone through and always will be changing, some changes may happen drastically and some may happen over time either way with or with out "global warming" we would still see changes like this. In other words GET OVER IT! there is nothing you can do to change it.

Right on, and we will all be just as dead no matter whether we are concerned about it or not. So, Bring it on!To hell with it ALL!

Enjoy your stay here on earth if you can, while you can. Most of us can't any longer due to the extreme greed of a few. 5-10 yrs from now we'll probably all be history. I wanna see all the greedy SOB's that have caused the majority of us to live our lives in financial misery by doing everything they could have possibly done to steal all the wealth, take all, or even just any, of that wealth to hell with them. That my friends will be something to see indeed! My bet is, is that none will succeed.

KEEP PRAYING TO JESUS ... those smoke stacks have nothing to do with this. Obviously we've done something to anger God.

In the time of the ancient Gods of Zeus, Gunn (the African god of fire), Odin, Kali, and the multitude of other deities, when they were angered we gave sacrificial offerings to appease them. If you say that we have angered God, maybe we should do what they did in ancient time; give offerings to our God.

Human or animal? Whom shall we sacrifice to God?

On the other hand maybe God needs to be in Anger Management.

The effect of this extreme hot weather is taking its toll on the ecology of the lakes throughout the country, these fish kills may be the tip of the iceberg. While many still debate the validity of Global Warming, there is mounting evidence on the outcome of this trend. We are exploring Mars to prove if live once existed on the Red Planet. Will one day some one will ask the question, "Did life exist on Earth at one time?" Are we seeing the end of life on this once great Blue Orb? While we debate the cost of this or that, and is it worth the financial troubles that this would cause the economy. My view is this. One pile of bleached bones looks like any other pile of bleached bones, no matter what the cost is; your money or your life. We are seeing the bottom of the food chain drop from underneath us, how long will it be till humanity is put on the endangered species list. Perhaps we will be the last to go, so the last human to go please turn off the lights.

And the last to go will probably be the very ones that have had more of a hand in causing all of this than any other group of people. The greedyass wealthy elite. Wanna make a bet on how much of that wealth stays here when THEY depart?

The people in charge of managing these lakes and rivers, need to be running oxygenators on the surface of these lakes to help prevent this. Basically a splash machine or an air-pump. Churning the water, or pumping bubbles into the water, will force oxygen into the water. They use them in fish-tanks, why not lakes?

                          Quick check the latitude...

especially severe. This latitude runs just south of Paris around the earth and it is here we are
told that fish in either the sea, rivers, or lakes, will be boiled by intense
                          heat.

Sounds like a good prediction to me.

I think the oil company should go the way of the dinosaur and become extinct. And the new energy source should be solar, but hmmm, solar power comes from the sun and sun power is all around us and free. That would mean less profit for the "Big Guys". It would kinda be like the pharmaceutical companies making a one time charge "pill" that would cure all our ills. We wouldn't be cash cows anymore. Nahhhhh not gonna happen.

The climate has been more or less stable for almost 100,000 years. Since the industrial revolution, (about 200 years ago) it has steadily started to change drastically.

MAN and all his smog is changing the climate. 50 Billion cars around the world. We need to get them OFF the road and ban fossil fuels from public use. It should be commercial and military only. Everyone else can drive electric golf carts to work, or take the bus.. I don't give a rats-ass about anyone's inconvenience either.

could spend hours to get into the specifics I have learned with you but I think

the biggest inner-change we all make is when we discover things on our own.

That is when our eyes truly come open. Please look into this issue! Please

research it thoroughly. If climate change is correct then we must act now. If

climate change is incorrect then we have nothing to worry about.

                                              I’m
going to leave you with this. Is there any harm in believing in the global
                                              warming

argument if it is untrue? If you honestly do your research and do not listen to

others, what do the facts show you? If global warming is true and we (people)
                                              are

having a detrimental impact on our environment do we choose to remain stubborn

about it (and our habits) even if our kids and grandkids could be negatively

affected? Positive change rests in our hands. Good luck and God speed!

Install solar power like I have and keep your back up air conditioning system in working order. I have four in my 5000 sq foot abode. Keep the pool full . . . run the water to keep it to the brim. Use the solarcover only if they kill off your water. A full pool is a happy pool. Stock up on can food and water and plenty of ammunition for your weapons - shoot for fun shoot for safety - shoot to kill.

it. I want to present you with some facts because opinion is like a butthole, everyone has one. Here is an interested article to read about the type of treatment climate scientists are receiving.

It is a fairly long article but please read it. It may just change your mind for or against climate change. It is very in depth with people’s names and information about the invisible war that is being fought against climate scientists. The article has some interesting information on the death threatsto climate scientists and their families, frivolous lawsuits and legal battles, and an all out push (award to anyone) to find one crack to discredit their entire life work. It will be interesting for you to learn where the funding is
coming from to discredit the science behind discussing climate change

Here is a link to graph showing global temperature over the last 1000 years:

Here is a video showing global temperatures over the years

Icould spend hours to get into the specifics I have learned with you but I think the biggest inner-change we all make is when we discover things on our own. That is when our eyes truly come open. Please look into this issue! Please research it thoroughly. If climate change is correct then we must act now. If climate change is incorrect then we have nothing to worry about.

I’m going to leave you with this. Is there any harm in believing in the global
warming argument if it is untrue? If you honestly do your research and do not listen to others, what do the facts show you? If global warming is true and we (people)
are having a detrimental impact on our environment do we choose to remain stubborn about it (and our habits) even if our kids and grandkids could be negatively affected? Positive change rests in our hands. Good luck and God speed!

lol james !! ordinarily I'd point out hoW short sighted and down right goofy your statments are but you've done such a good job of that yourself with statments like: "hey pallyboy...the reason bp had their oil spill is because of ridiculous govenment regulation that forced them so far out into the ocean..." lolol it must be really dark up there where you've got your head burried James! But I see your logic and I suppose that aweful mean old government made them spill the oil toonot their greedy need to make a buck at ANY COST! lololololol

and who can forget this nugget of james wisdom ?!? " by the way...oil is natural....little animals in the sea eat it...." hahahahaha yup yup your right james the little animals in the sea eat oil fer breakfast then the bigger animals eat them and then the whole world spins around your bedroom while you sleep! by the way james ole buddy you happen to remember the names of those lil oil eating animals in the sea?? lolololol

oh and this beauty: "nature takes care of itself most of the time and your cleaning up operations often screw up nature." sorry to wake you from yet another dream james, but they aren't "my clean up operations" they are bp, shell, exxon, koch industries, etc and all backed by confused little cretins like you who as I said can't see the forest through the trees! lololol

thanks for the laughs james! write something else meaningful will ya ?!? lololololololol

7+ billion people, tons of auto's, factories and there is heat. Manure produces heat-by product of the animals that are raised to feed 7 billion people-human waste...that also produces heat--then there are all the lights because economically we can not have a night and that produces heat---

What has happened this year in the US and with last years draughts, there is a climate change-if not careful, we can end up unable to feed our own-which is kind of where we are at now--wildlife will die off as there is no vegetation and the fish are dying, then you have the fires which are going to be a problem months from now to stabilize soil and provide food and cover again for animals--

The earth can not support 7 billion people. Every corner of the world is facing problems and climate change that they have not seen before. It's time to conserve and continue to clean up--better and faster.

And what about getting rid of about half of that 7 billion people? It's truly hard to believe the earths population has doubled since 1980! Totally unsustainable.
