Hancock County Jail
Joshua Stryzanski, 18, is charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
A baby girl died and a toddler was in critical condition Saturday after they were left in separate vehicles in the Indianapolis area on a day in which the temperature hit 104 degrees, a record for the date.
Greenfield Police Chief John Jester said a 3-month-old girl was found in a car at 3:35 p.m., the Indianpolis Star reported. The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jester said the baby's father, Joshua Stryzanski, 18, was being held at the Hancock County jail on a charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, the Star reported.
Greenfield is a city of about 20,000 east of Indianapolis.
In the other incident, at about 3 p.m. police broke a window in a Ford Explorer to free a 16-month-old girl in the city of Fishers, northeast of Indianapolis, the Star reported. The child suffered a seizure before being taken to an Indianapolis hospital, a Fishers police spokesman told the Star.
Storms, sweltering heat move east
The temperature inside the SUV after the window was broken was 124 degrees, the Star reported, citing unnamed officials.
Fishers police said the child's mother, Meg Trueblood, 30, of Fishers, was charged preliminarily with felony neglect of a child, the Star reported.
The National Weather Service said the temperature in Indianapolis hit 104 degrees, breaking the record for July 7 of 101, set in 1936. The all-time high for the city is 106, set on July 14, 1936.
In the heat wave gripping the United States this week, at least 61 heat-related deaths have been reported, according to an NBC News count. That number does not include the baby's death.
Triple-digit temperatures continue to blanket many areas of the country. NBC's Michelle Franzen reports.

To help solve the jail overcrowing incarserate both of these individials in ssteel shipping containers until they come to trial.
Stupid is as stupid does.
you have to have a license to catch a fish but any idiot can be a parent !!!!!
they need to be locked into a class container and left in the sun until dead. Make examples out of these people. This is happening way too much and it needs to stop immediately.
@ Corporate.... He ain't no parent. He only "fathered" a child and a dog can make offspring. Hope someone "dispatches" this poor excuse for a human being.
This is our youth of today. Worthless entitled kids that more than likely never finished high school and fathered 2 kids before he was 18. Stop these parents from having more.
I'm beginning to believe with the number of times this has happened over the last couple of years and the news coverage of all these incidents these "parents" may be intentionally leaving their children in these vehicles and coming up with excuses to get out of it. Makes a person wonder ya know!
What kind of idiot leaves a kid inside a locked car when the temperature is over 100 degrees. I certainly hope that child services removes this child from his care. Anyone that would do something that stupid has no business being a care giver for any child ever.
This is why birth control should be made free of charge to anyone. Some should never have children. It is a sad thing that we have children having children. Regardless of your political affiliation, this should never happen. Young people need to be educated that there is a way to have sex without creating a child, a child that this idiot caused the horrible death of.
Natural selection.
What the
USMC- Try some reading comprehension and put your stereotypes down. The kid had one child, the 16 month old belongs to someone else. Further, the youth of today are only what their parents make them. You read about one 18 year old and paint an entire generation the same color. Easy, lazy thinking.
At least these people were arrested. Here in Texas it seems leaving a child in a locked car is the way to legally kill your child. We seldom have parents charged with leaving children in hot cars. We did have some daycare workers charged for leaving a little boy in a hot van, but they weren't the parents so I guess that is different.
a photo of what STUPID looks like my gawd, I would never leave my Son's girlfriends dog in my car for five minutes, JJ is too precious, this guy has to be a MORON, MORON
It seems as if our children, pets, and our elderly, all without a voice are dispoisable in our society. You can violate a child and get a slap on the wrist. The 18 yr old is basically a case of babies raising babies. The laws governing such acts must be revisited and stiffer penalties handed down. What a horrific way to die!!!!!
How utterly, profoundly stupid can a person, a parent, actually be?
mmm
Maybe I'm missing something ... the general consensus here seems to be "the guy's a moron", but the story says these were two separate incidents in two separate vehicles. I'm not sure how exactly this may have went down, but assuming this one guy is in fact responsible for both incidents, to my way of thinking this makes him more of an infanticidal and murderous sociopath, than a moron.
USMC1969-5804432
The 18 year old was the father of the 3 month old....He is an idiot, but age has nothing to do with it.
The parent in the OTHER case was a 30 year old woman.
Neither was related to the other.
What can we learn from this other than it is STUPID to leave any living thing in a car during a hot day?
We learned there are other idiots that will stereotype and jump to conclusions because they are incapable of reading.
No he was not responsible for both incicents. When stories are presented it would really be nice if the WRITER would do their job and get more information. You know like WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY AND HOW?? Learned that much about journalism when I was in grade school. What is wrong with reporters, editor, entire new reporting agencies????
Joseph-I was a caregiver for people with various disabilities for 24 years. Those you deem "retard" aren't half as intelligent , kind or caring as many truly disabled people are. Please think before you call people names or at least let the name be fitting rather than derogatory to a group of people who don't deserve it!!!!
As the story says:
Who? A 16 month old girl.
What? Her Mother (Meg Trueblood, 30, of Fishers) left her in the car.
When? About 3 PM.
Where? The city of Fishers, northeast of Indianapolis
Why? It was hot.
How? The Mother locked the baby in the car. The police had to break the window.
It's all there.....How did you miss it?
When I see this story, all I can think about is the image of an infant strapped in the back of a car, giving it's final pleas as it screams and cries, it's only defense mechanism, as it bakes inside that steel death trap. I hope these folks rot for the rest of their life, forever lost in the ideal that they murdered their own children, haunted by the cries of the ones that, through no fault of their own, had to trust their very livelihood to these frelling morons.
young people are not the only ones having children and locking the babies in hot cars. adults are doing it to, I think all these people are deliberately leaving these children in hot cars either for attention or to see if they can get away with it. I just can't understand how you can forget a child(ren) in a hot car, it is easier to forget your cell phone or purse or wallet in the but not children. you don't ever hear about someone leaving a child in a car in the winter , makes you wonder sometimes.
@ThaMonkeh....Agree 100% could not have said it better myself.
On another story, 14 children age 8 months to 14 years old are left alone for 10 days while parents travel out of state. The older children ended up begging for food from neighbor after the first day.
Some people are not even worth to be a parent. This is why birth control and abortion are important, however it seems lots of people still think it is perfectly fine to give as much birth as possible and condemn anyone who do otherwise.
Out of the entire article about two seperate incidents, this is all you got out of it?
STexan....I'm thinking that reading comprehension is not high on the list of subjects covered in Texas' Schools.
skrewdworld........Good point, the problem with the world is not retarded people, it is stupid people, big difference !
These people are not idiots. They are murderers. Until they are routinely charged with murder and given the death sentence this will not stop. Because the judicial system has given this form of murder a free pass, it continues to the point that scum want a gullible public to believe they accidentally left a child in a car in 104 degree weather. And the public buys it.
So who are the idiots?
Drosen: USMC may be wrong in "painting an entire generation", but I will have to agree with him and that it is a MAJORITY. It is sad and it isn't going to stop. And yes, parents take some responsibility, but what about the children in 14 years that will having children of their own. You think it's going to improve then? After being raised by the likes of this goon? I think not!
Is this his mugshot? Is he high? What is he on? Hope they drug tested him too, just in case they need to bring that up later.
I Strongly agree this is horrendous!
ThaMonkeh
A person would not Scream or Cry in this situation.
The body would be too weak at this point to do anything.
A person or baby would be very quiet, past in and out of consciousness first, maybe the skin would turn a number of different shades, probably reddish, then pale for lack of oxygen, a shade of blue at the end.
This state can quite easily be mistaken as a person sleeping. Upon further examination it would be noted the person's eye's although shut will be rolling back into the head.
Any caregiver should anyhow be very aware of the person in care at all times, no matter what the weather.
Giving water (fluids), air movement, and talking to them. Even if sleeping wake them for a few seconds to make sure they are oka.
More awareness needs to be brought to this subject, like commercials showing an unresponsive person and what to look for.
These individuals probably thought the kids were sleeping, which is still no excuse not to bring them along.
Excellent point patter. More than 40% of "accidental" and even crib deaths are suspected to be deliberate but can't be proven so.
Cindy H: All the public service announcements in the world won't prevent people from killing their children. Prison sentences will.
Ummmmm, errrrrr............. maybe so but in this case the wrong one died.
Eventually we'll hear the other side of it. When these things happen it reminds me of the woman in GA some years back who had her child in her car while she worked because she was having issues getting childcare. Her employer was singularly unsympathetic. She felt powerless and bullied, so she went to work and left the baby in the car. That baby died too, but in that case it was the fault of Clinton for stripping help from working single mothers. Of course Clinton was only kow-towing to the GOP. The same heartless jerks that are still there today. There is always more to the story. And as is typical with tyrannical white men in government, innocent children usually pay for their sins.....
Indiana wants me; Lord I cant go back there..Wasn't it Indiana that suffered the most job losses of any other, this is the result. Thanks Bush.
Lusitania... All you can comment is some political diatribe about Bush? WTH does Bush have to do with this happening? Maybe with your vast love of Obama you can tell us how he could of prevented this. So sick of political hacks such as you using tragedy as a means to promote your agendas. Do Indiana a favor and stay where you are, they appear to have enough stupid people already.
The religious right will not permit sex education, and specifically birth control to be taught in the public schools of many states. Their minions in Congress want to make sure that Planned Parenthood has no funds to teach these lessons outside of school. Their idea of sex education? Don't have sex. Case closed.
The parents of these children having children obviously have failed to teach them anything about preventing pregnancy or parenting skills for teenagers. This is the result. Imagine all the situations like this that we never hear about.
Some of you people are acting like this is a recent thing that has something to do with this particular generation. I am 50 years old and every summer for the last 50 years this happens somewhere in this country. Humans are pron to random acts of stupidity, every year some unattended child drowns in the river, falls off the cliff. swallows some household cleaner, suffocates in a plastic bag, and dies in a hot car. This is nothing new and has nothing to do with any particular generation, its just that we now have more news outlets than we have actual news so every incident around the country gets shoved in our faces 24/7. If we humans weren't pron to random acts of stupidity then there would be no news at all. If you want to stop or reduce the chances of this happening again then we need to give intense psychological exams to anyone desiring to have children, but of course that will never happen because stupid people seem to enjoy reproducing.
Children drowning, falling off cliffs, poisionings and plastic bags, while just as deadly, many times are pure and simple accidents. No matter how you prepare, sometimes accidents will happen. Leaving a child or an animal in a car in the summertime, especially when we have endured one of the worst drought/heatwaves since 1936, is pure stupidity. Likely brought on by substance abuse. Maybe, maybe not, but I have worked in EMS and Law Enforcement long enough to look at this picture and HIGHLY suspect he is under the influence of something. If he is not, then SOMETHING else is going on.....
It goes without saying that criminal charges are appropriate but the real solution is education. In most cases this happens because of simple ignorance. Many people honestly think that the child will be okay because they don't understand how much hotter it will become inside the vehicle. People need to be made to understand what the greenhouse effect is and how dangerous it can be.
If two separate individuals are responsible for two separate but identical incidents, why does one walk with no charges, and one gets books in on a felony? That's the part of the story that I'm missing. I mean seriously, what are the odds of the same couple doing this on the same day, and both being caught in the act? I comprehend reading just fine, dick, but the story is lacking some critical information.
STexan
Does this help?
One died:
One went to the Hospital:
And as is typical with tyrannical white men in government, innocent children usually pay for their sins
I imagine once we get some blacks and hispanics in government this will stop happening. Oh, wait ....
The religious right will not permit sex education, and specifically birth control to be taught in the public schools of many states. Their minions in Congress want to make sure that Planned Parenthood has no funds to teach these lessons outside of school. Their idea of sex education? Don't have sex. Case closed.
I'm pretty sure birth control is taught in public schools in Indianna and yet babies are still born to those who can't care for them. Unless you think forcing everyone of childbearing age to take birth control is a good idea, how is some adult "teaching" about birth control going to prevent idiots from having babies if they DON'T WANT TO BE BOTHERED USING IT?
It's not the white males in goverment's fault, it's not the Christians' fault, it's these pathetic excuse for parents' fault these babies were locked in cars.
Haven't we already learned this??? This happens every single year! I don't get it!! Heck, yesterday, I rented movies and then made another stop where I would be for several hours.....I even took my movies in!!! How the hell does this happen? I just do not get it!!
Lusitania--An apropriate moniker considering that the ship you're on is going down fast...
Blame Bush all you want (some of it even deserved, IMO), but the reality is that Obama has presided over the weakest post-recession 'recovery' in the last 100 years. This is all on him.
Cindy... sleeping? Really? Are you saying that if you think your baby is asleep it is ok to leave them in a hot car? Why would the possibilty that the parents thought that they were sleeping make any difference to the fact that you left a baby in a deadly environment?
Young ingnoramous's having kids. Worthless crap who have no business having children.
To save resources spent on trials they should just be neutered and sent back. Cannot take good care of children? then simply cannot have children
LS
My comment was:
It was a question and an answer BOTH directed at USMC who didn't read the story and started off on the "youth of today".
Glad you saved your movies.
I used to travel because of my job. Carried a little radio alarm before the digital era. In Sacramento it melted on a channel there, after that it was hit and miss if I would like the station it played.
nwnative
So you are OK with the 30 year old mother that locked her baby in?
@ Bernitch- Sorry to rain on your parade, but "rednecks" don't have a monopoly on child abuse/neglect. There's plenty of abuse/neglect in the inner city, suburbs, etc...so what would you say about those folks ?
There may very well be a pattern of murder, like some have suggested, after all abortion is a "choice" often times made by the female in secret, without the males knowledge or consent, but don't get me wrong, males are often involved in this process as well. There is nothing convenient about abortion, as any parties involved (especially the expecting female) will endure guilt and regret for years(possibly their entire life) to come.
One thing we don't see in this fluffy article is mention of the mother. So did the parents plan the murder/death of the infant together ?
It's obvious there is a problem in our society that need to be addressed, and neglectful parents need to be prosecuted for manslaughter and/or murder (if proven). Adoption is always an option, we as society need to protect the rights of the next generation/s.
Another human rights issue the prevailing abuse ("throw away") attitude towards inmates. We hear things like "who cares, that's what they deserve", etc...inmates deserve abuse while in prison ? What happens to inmates who return to society ? How can we consider our society "free" with these types of abuses as the status quo ?
It's up to the 99% to begin examining the underlying issues at hand. Abusive and immoral corporate power has dramatically transformed our country in ways the younger generations can't understand because of the time factor. It wasn't that long ago we had local hardwares stores before HOME DEPOT came into our lives with their sappy ads boasting about "the power of home depot", and that yucky music jingle. I met someone (name withheld) who works at "HD" and he said all the stores climate control systems are run from the headquarters in Atlanta(that's why you see the doors open sometimes, because it's to hot or cold and staff has no other option.....can't get more "big brother" than that).
Wake up 99%, the people have power too, and it's time for the public to begin affecting real change.
1. broader public disclosure and examination of elected officials voting records
2. broader disclosure and examination of police brutality/crime / national civilian police review board
3. broader disclosure and examination of companies/corporations who abuse the environment/bribe elected officials/ control-monopolize through financial power, etc..
4. complete disclosure of the prison lobby system of who it profits and who it benefits
5. examination of local/state government financial support(corporate welfare) of professional sport stadiums, that is done with or without the publics vote or say
6. national dialogue on who benefits from keeping hemp (not pot another topic altogether) illegal, like Big Oil, Dupont, Gulf, Cottonseed/Cotton producers, Lumber Industry, etc...and who it hurts, Farmers (or we pay them "farm welfare"), the public, the environment, the planet, our species, etc..
Get the point ?
no geo they are all due to parents negligence, if you are monitoring your children those "accidents" wouldn't happen. Yesterday while I was out rock hunting I saw a woman drive to the edge of a cliff and sit in her car while her three young boys ran to the edge and began climbing down in an attempt to get in a small cave, no one fell this time but there is a cross planted up there from the last child who fell. Yes they are all different but if your child suffocates from sticking his head inside of a plastic bag YOU as the PARENT are just as much at fault as this dimwit who left his child in a hot care unattended. Parents have been leaving their kids alone with plastic bags almost as long as they have been leaving them in hot cars, I say almost because plastic bags haven't been around as long as cars. Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.
I heard Disney World actually patrols their parking lots looking for stuff like this;
small children and pets left in cars and vans.
It happens all the time.
I didn't read why the children were left alone in the cars nor where the vehicles were parked. Were they tucked away in private drives or did they have a hundred other shoppers walking by saying, "that poor child".
Many people would get involved were it an animal in the vehicles and many of those very same people would walk right on by and not want to get involved if it is a child or elderly person in the vehicle.
The wrong people are having all the kids.
o'really- -
"Indiana law does state that when sexuality education is taught, abstinence from sexual activity outside of marriage must be stressed. Instruction must teach that abstinence outside of marriage and a mutually monogamous relationship inside of marriage are the best ways to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy..."
http://www.getrealindiana.org/current_law.php
So you think that birth control is taught in Indiana public schools? Here it is, basically don't have sex. If you think that most school districts in Indiana provide information on birth control pills, diaphragms, intra- uterine devices or abortion, then you are dreaming. The religious right considers sex without procreation evil. This filtered into the public schools in many states; I mean Texas is a joke. I'll bet Indiana is no different. As long as we keep teenagers ignorant about sex, this is going to happen even more frequently: children having children.
Rednecks, Christians, Conservatives, Bush? Seriously, this is the epitomy of arrogance and foolishness. How about people. All kinds of people. All kinds of mean spiritedness. Blaming. Arrogance. Division. With all the self proclaimed 'intellectual giants' out there belittling those they disagree with, the threads have become the ropes with which everyone is hung. The drama coming through these online tools for social spewing are killing us from the inside out. And the media gleans the opinions and defines and manipulates Americans through this rhetoric. Opinions posted from hiding have become the weapons people use to bludgeon each other from behind. So someone can 'win'? There is no 'winning' at this. War is building in America and neither side will back down. Another abominable, avoidable war in America is on the horizon. Disarm now.
I live in Greenfield. Greenfield is 20 miles east of Indy. Every time I hear of stories like this, I just cringe. It is so sad and so stupid. I hope justice will be served.
He should be charged with murder two at least. Throw him in jail for 30 or 40 years and make sure all the inmates know why he's in there. If the toddler dies the mother should be charged the same. Hopefully the toddler will pull through in which case they should be removed from the mother with no chance of return.
While this is a pathetic excuse for a human being, it's fairly common. Has anybody ever heard of the Darwin Awards? It's all about people acting this stupid, and dying from it. When I was very young, my oldest brother got the cute idea to launch bottle rockets by hand. Since he had to have the fire in one hand, he held all the rockets in the one he was launching them from. He did it until the sparks from one bottle rocket lit the fuses of the other ones in his hand. I remember it, because I was trying to run from something no pre-schooler could hope to outrun. Here's a simple solution to this type of thing: every year in school, break out these incedents, and let children learn from it. Teach them that they should never leave a child or pet unattended inn a car in any weather. While you're at it, have classes on what to do in a number of circumstances that people die from every year. Stranded motorists in snowstorm run engine to keep warm, but instead die from fumes of engine. People go missing at sea, or on land, without locater beacons. Who's gonna die on Mount Hood this year? We all hate to hear of somebody killing a pet, or a child because of neglet every year. Stop hating it, and start stopping it. If one child or pet is saved from teaching about the stupidity of man, that's better than none being saved.
These occurrences are always tragic. However, they are not deliberate. Parents are imperfect, and they occasionally forget that their child is in the backseat asleep. As busy as lives are these days, parents are busy, too, and they may go on with their routine without realizing their infant or toddler is sleeping and quiet, leading to tragic consequences for both of them.
There's nothing that outweighs the anguish of the loss of a child. Those of you who look into the eyes of this young man and think you see uncaring or drugged looks are incorrect. I see the haunted face of a person who knows he is responsible for the death of his own child. I see shock, disbelief and guilt as well as despair. If Joshua Stryzanski lives 60 more years, he will never forget the moment he discovered his dead baby and that he is responsible.
Now, as to the fact that this sort of heat death isn't uncommon: it happens in Florida year-round. It's neither deliberate nor planned. There are other easier ways for an infant to die that don't result in detection or arrest. If one wished to kill one's child for some unimaginable reason why wouldn't one choose another way?
Children are forgotten in winter as frequently as they are in spring and summer. They rarely perish in the winter because they're bundled up and the greenhouse effect and their body heat warms the car. The same effect that kills them in warm weather preserves their lives in cold weather. How ironic is that? Parents return to them and they're upset, hungry and chilly but alive. What should be the punishment of those parents? They made the same mistake but the outcome is different.
Bluelake
Am I missing something? Abstinence is STRESSED. Does that mean that no other topics are discussed but abstinence? Is it a lie that abstinence is the best way to avoid pregnancy or STD's? Rather than just focusing on what birth control is available (mostly to women) how about teaching how messed up your life is going to be when you become that baby momma?
Since you seem to be an expert on birth control, how exactly do you get the little buggers to use it when pills make you fat and swollen, IUDs hurt (I used them for 6 years), diaphragms are messy and inconvenient and condoms don't feel the same so it's hard to convince your boyfriend to use them. Also none of them are foolproof. Abortion is legal, has been for years, but one of the big drawbacks is you have to actually want to have one.
Do you really believe that teenage pregnancy is the result of including (or stressing) a discussion of abstinence in public schools? Please.
For the life of me I just can not understand how this can happen...I know I am far from the brightest in the world and I raised my son alone since he was 9 months old and not once did I ever consider leaving him in the car alone for even a min...If I was just running into the store to grab something quick he went with me...the thought of leaving him just never crossed my mind...I just can't imagine what people are thinking when they do this...especially knowing they will be gone for a while.
Have we really deviated that far from teaching our kids right from wrong...and the basics of just how to survive on their own?
alim; I just keep telling myself that some of the posters on the Internet are the extreme of the extreme, most people are smart enough to not go looking for trouble. If I were the FBI and Homeland security - I'd focus on Liberals posting at Fox and Conservatives posting at MSNBC, they are the ones who can't resist confrontation.
Child abuse will always be with us - some people just can't calm themselves down - those who constantly resort to reacting with emotions learned it at home, they don't even know they are doing it. There are a few who became that way because of events that happened to them outside the home, and many of them are finally getting the testing that shows they have a mental imbalance, like being bi-polar. That stuff usually comes out when they start school and have to deal with stuff that mommy and daddy protected them from at home (that's the case of my brother and step son). We as a society are really screwing up by cutting mental health from all of our State budgets. We expect people like teachers to be mandatory reporters, then have no treatment funds available to them (the mentally ill). Some 18 war vets a day commit suicide, again hospitals and homes for them sit vacant because of lack of funds. Then we have people who think the mentally ill should just be hung, not exactly deep thinkers. The Easy Button has replaced compassion, often just to save a few bucks, it isn't just the Left and Right destroying our society - lazy and cheap doesn't need a voting card, just the will to ignore all problems... until it hits them, then they get it. It shouldn't take a tragedy to open their eyes... Pro-active and Progressive have been hi-jacked, people programmed to think these are evil words, well if kids getting cooked in their parents cars isn't enough to make them realize that being progressive and pro-active are not evil words, then nothing will.
If either of the parents had been a school teacher here in Ohio..... (and the spouse was a contractor for the state), the authorities would call it a tragic accident and NO CHARGES would be filed.
A sad, tragic accident that happens every year. This is the first case I've personally read that involved a teenage parent so folks jumping on the "young people are stupid" bandwagon are misguided.
It only takes 15-30 minutes for a car in 85 degree weather to heat up to over 120 degrees inside, even with the windows cracked. My guess is that these parents only intended to be out of the car for a few minutes, not realizing how fast things can go terribly wrong. Very sad, and these parents will be haunted with coulda, shoulda, woulda scenarios for the rest of their lives.
I only was responding to the comment above!"NC open heart"and his comment against "Clinton"(So I didnt start the political rhetoric ,your side did.!)why dont you drag him through the mud or do you have selective reading skills..
I'm sick of idiots like you who have double standards.
Rednecks should not reproduce.
What has politics got to do with this article-NOTHING. SHUT UP.
o'really, your quotes from NC (first line) and Bluelake (last paragraph) and subsequent analysis is quite flawed to say the least. Study after study has demonstrated that abstinence only education is no more effective than comprehensive sex education with as much emphasis on contraception as abstinence. Since Bush's brilliant, naive abstinence only education went into effect, at least half the states offered the funding for the program have flatly refused it, knowing that abstinence only is unrealistic and results in MORE unsafe sex than those who participate in comprehensive sex education. And despite the fact that NC's comment was unduly suppressed by other knee-jerk posters....NC was not trying to justify this horrible incident with his/her statement, just making the observation that primarily white men in congress impose their moral beliefs on women, somewhat tyrannically, with no regard to reality, just as Christian fundamentalists try to incorporate their biblical beliefs into law, while ignoring irrefutable scientific evidence to the contrary. (Can you say "Intelligent Design" or "Creationism"?).
And your remark implying that congress no longer consists primarily of white men, but Hispanics and Blacks as well, in an attempt to contradict NC's statement, is far from the truth. Yes, a few more Hispanics and Blacks have managed to infiltrate congress, but it's still primarily a club for aging white men and increasingly fanatic baggers.
But I digress...your explanation for the perils of birth control are greatly exaggerated, and most women choose to overcome them without much problem, and teens should be given the same realistic information and choices.

It just outrages me to hear that another parent has left an unattended child in a hot car. It's not as though it has never happened before. It happens day after day and what is the end result? Another helpless child has died. What does it take to make people get it through their dense head that this is unacceptable under any circumstance!?!?! These so-called parents should be tossed in jail to remain there for life to think about the horrid crime which they commited - every day for the rest of their life. They should not die, they should live.. live to regret the act they committed. They should be made to wear a "scarlet letter" and be paraded around the city in which the crime was committed then tossed back into their jail cell to rot. It only takes a few minutes to prevent the unthinkable. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Unless you have reared all your children to adulthood, without being physically or mentally harmed, you would be smarter to keep your criticisms to yourself.
Most of us live in glass houses. My kids are 30 and 35, ok physically but mentally, maybe not so much. My son has been marries 3 times, my daughter twice.
Wow that was original. Did you think that up all by yourself there alan290? Congratulations! {eye roll}...
Anyway moving along, in keeping with the conversation for adults, ANYONE of ANY race who is incompetent should not reproduce. Irresponsible teenagers having kids is nothing new. What is relatively new however is a blameless society and a society that is more and more tolerant of zero personal responsibility. It's always someone else's fault.
This should be considered pre-meditated murder. Thusly he should be stripped naked, and then tossed in to a thin steel box with his wife and forced to stand there in the middle of the heated box until they die.
You can't really blame the mother of Stryzanski's child's when it doesn't seem like she was even involved in the incident.
When the temperature is 72 degrees outside, inside a closed up vehicle sitting in the sun the heat can easily rise to well above 100 degrees. Most doctors and veterinarians will tell you that when the heat is above 100 degrees, you need to take precautions to keep your body from overheating.
If you must travel with your young children, do NOT leave them in the car alone. Stuff happens and you child could suffer the consequences of you leaving them. Take them out of the car into whatever building with you. It is better for the child to wake up and be cranky, than never wake up again.
Do not travel with your animal. It is NOT a person. You do NOT need to travel with it. The only reason for having an animal in your vehicle is if it being moved to a different temporary residence or you are taking it to a veterinarian.
Yes, yes this is quite sad but how about that msnbc saying stupid-a$$ $hit that makes no sense; take this qoute for example "The National Weather Service said the temperature in Indianapolis hit 104 degrees, breaking the record for July 7 of 101, set in 1936. The all-time high for the city is 106, set on July 14, 1936."
Now tell me...what is the record high in Indianapolis? Stupid F***ing msnbc; you do that ALL the time!! Better hire some new editors.
The record high for the date of July 7th was 101 and just broken by 104. The record for any date is 106.
WTF???? Why does this keep happening? How stupid do you have to be to leave your child in a car in July?? If you are a bad enough parent to leave your child in a car alone AT ALL? We need to seriously punish the $hit out of these two and set a serious example!
Terrible! Hang them high!!!!
Take the parents strap them in a large adult car seat and leave them in the backseat of a hot car. See how they like it. Also, spay and neuter them.
yes, I believe what redondo says, give them a taste of their own medicine. NEVER leave kids or pets for that matter in a vehicle when temps are high, just common sense. even if you have to be away for a minute or so, not worth it!!!!
NEVER leave kids in cars alone NO MATTER WHAT the temperature is!!!
Sure like to know wha the "adults" in these incidents were doing while their children suffered agonizing deaths. Life in prison with out the possibilty of parole or the death penalty is what they deserve.
redondo98 I have to say I got a laugh out of your post. The spay and nueter is priceless. Thanks! Usually everyone is at each others throats so much on here, it's nice to see something, although serious, give me a chuckle!
So, more cases of child restraint caused more death, if the kids had been free they would get away automatically from the sunny areas, possibly even the 3 month old. Obviously the temp in front of the window was 120 + but it would not at/in the bottom og car.--But for once the police did not actually shoot out the window, at least I think, but you better check possibly they caused the one death--if no one else was there you never know in USA!They shoot and kill 3 every day, possibly they should be "modified" underneath, so we can slow down that killer type breading in the future!
Ok so now you can dish on that statement, you like that here, if nothing else. That is why I like to tease you with facts!
But anyone who leaves anything living in a hot car is crazy, never mind minors left alone, I once heard about a would be defendant sitting in the back of a very hot police car 1.2 hours, who got a heart attach while they were investigating. He had never been arrested, and had nothing to do with it; the tax payes like the parents/ people you mention here had to pay 3,6 million Dollars to his kids, So is that welfare--none of those police people went to jail, so why should the idiots here go to jail?
I wonder if we have different classifications of idiots?
Bundgaard.....ummmm what????? A 3 month old would know to get out of the car seat and move to the bottom of the car??? Even a 16 month old would know that????? Wow...you must have had genius kids!! What a ridiculous and senseless rant!
Even on a cool day the temp inside a car can become fatal in a short time
Bundgaard- you're right the temperature would only be say 110+ at the bottom of the car-so I could see how it would be totally safe down there...
I didn't realize there were still people that stupid in the USA, but I know better now.
Mike,
Without question, come on...who are you kiddin? There are plenty.
Obviously you never voted.
"The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with a registered voter."
-- Winston Churchill
Ah there it is. I was reading and wondering when the next retard was going to find some way to make this political. Congratulations!
This is, unfortunately, proof of of the phrase: "Every time you try to idiot proof the world, the world creates a better idiot".
OK, say I'm an 18 year old father and the novelty of being a father has worn off. I know I can leave the kid and mom but I still have to support the kid for the next 18 years.
What do I do???????????
It's surprisingly easy to forget a sleeping baby in a car, especialy if your not the one who usually drives the child, and/or you are new to being a parent... I speak from experience, it happened to me too, My wife had an early doctors appointment, so I took my son with me in my car to drop at the sitter's. He fell asleep the moment the car began moving, and I forgot he was back there, I drove straight to work like always, got out and left him. Fortunately for me it was on a 60 degree day and my son slept through the 2 hours I left him in the car, completely unaware... but it still sends shivvers down my spine, 20 years later... imagining what could've been... My heart goes out to the parents who just lost their precious children.
@Mark Taft-You support the child as you should. They didn't ask you to screw around.
You man up and take responsibility for you actions!! Better yet, when your 18, you realize that one moment of pleasure can mean a lifetime of responsibility!!
andrew-2912037: Thanks for your comment of reason. I think this is a terrible tragedy, just like everyone here is feeling, but I think we should step back and instead of reacting in rage try to understand what could have happened. I believe the father should be investigated because there is the possibility of this being intentional but if that isn't the case he should be treated with compassion because he must be feeling horrible.
...you think that's funny ANDREW 2912037...the police need to pick you up..I like to know what the hell is on your mind that you forgot you kid was in the back seat..that's any of you morons...accident my ass..
justgetalong.....are you f'n crazy...compassion...are you kidding me...this man needs to go to jail for the rest of his life...this is not a f'n parking ticket...
mark.....its time to man up and help take care of that child......anybody can be a father, it takes a man to be a dad.....and its not just about finances either that child needs your emotional support to.....so buck up and do the right thing.....
justgettalong-
Compassion?
I have no compassion for anyone who leaves a child in a car on such a hot day.
NONE...
In both cases it is just plain stupidity and cruelty. In the infant's case, it is just plain murder.
curious, why is a murder when its an infant but just cruel when its a 16 month old baby? are younger babies lives worth more to you?
because the 16th month old didn't die, as of my writing, anyway.
Put this brainless idiot in a car sitting in 105 degree heat with all the windows rolled up and let him fry!
Then the ACLU will step in to stop this case of "Cruel and Unusual Punishment"
Sorry Fester ... something tells me they wouldn't peep.
What extraordinary stupidity and ignorance. Some people should not be allowed to reproduce. If these people have any other children I sincerely hope something is done immediately to protect them from there"parents."
How stupid are some people? From the picture, the guy doesn't look like much of a thinker, but come on. You would also think he would be showing a bit more emotion knowing his daughter just died. I can think of only one punishment that is enough for these idiots- locked in a hot car until they die.
He looks like hes on drugs
An earlier poster mentioned that birth control should be free for one and all. I'd agree with that and it might help. However, the ones that get knocked and the ones doing most of the knocking up DON'T CARE about anything or anyone but themselves and are too selfish and lazy to take precautions. Ideally I'd say that as soon as a person hits puberty birth control should be mandatory until the age of 18 at least. After that there should be some kind of compentency test to determine if a person is worthy to procreate. Too bad this is against everything this country stands for as far as our rights and freedoms.
Statistically, this occurs more often with the middle or working class than with the poor and/or teen parents. Age, education, and socio-economic status have zero to do with it. And nobody thinks to say that maybe married WASPS need some birth control too. People think if you are married, have a job, and a college degree you can and should have children, and it will be easy. Well, children aren't easy. I was a teen mom (he's 16 now) and had another baby at 23, and there was NEVER one second of any day that I didn't know exactly where my babies were. My god, especially if they were in a vehicle. My rearview mirror was usually pointed down so that I could always monitor them when they were in the backseat. Before anyone yells at me, no I don't recommend driving that way, but I learned to drive in a car without a rearview and I was very comfortable doing so. In any case, I can't fathom any parent who could even for an instant forget they had a child- an infant- with them, unless they were drugged out. But then the druggies tend to just leave their babies at home alone, not in a broiling hot car. As a parent you are supposed to be hyper-aware of your children at all times. There is no excuse for this kind of horrible neglect. Yet every season there are at least 50 such deaths. The number never goes down, no matter how often we hear about these cases. My opinion on why? The parents who are often the culprit, the middle class, watch or read about these cases and dismiss them, thinking it could never happen to them, they're not druggies or stupid teenagers. Then the next year the wife was supposed to be the one taking the baby to day care and whoops! she stops to get donuts for her co-workers, goes to work, leaves the baby in the car when she gets to work and the baby stays there for eight hours. That example actually happened. The wife was a principal at an elementary school and her baby daughter was in her car for eight hours until someone came in and told her about it. Unfortunately it was too late and the child had literally cooked alive. She blamed the fact that she changed her schedule by getting the donuts and it made her think she had already dropped her daughter off at day care. Worst part? It was the third time she had left the child in the car alone. The child was 2 years old. And nothing happened to the mother. Now, if it had been the teen mom, or dad, like above, or a minority, or someone poor, that parent would have been charged with a crime. But since she was a nice white middle class woman it was just an "accident". They even got to keep the other kid. Ain't the system just grand?
Seems to me the world would be a better place if this guy's parents had used birth control !
"The parents who are often the culprit, the middle class, watch or read about these cases and dismiss them"
WOW Khylira I guess the only way to justify your own ineptitude of teen pregnancy, is to try and blame the middle class for locking children in cars in 100 plus degree weather ?
You should just delete your account, sell your computer and go back to watching daytime soaps 6 hours a day till its time to run to taco bell for your overly obese children's dinner.
He looks like he's absolutely in shock...what do you expect? The poor man looks like he doesn't know which way is up anymore. Can you just imagine? Please, let's wait for more info.
He is most likely simply poorly educated, over indoctrinated and overwhelmed at this point. His whole belief system was probably along the lines of, "I'm superior for numerous reasons, I'm a man, I'm a Baptist, and I know everything." It all came crashing down in one moment of, "OMG I'm such an fn idiot!".
I can just see the scene, the baby is sleeping in the car seat. He's got the A/C running, pulls into the Wal-mart just to run in for something quick. He can't really find shade or maybe he did find a bit. He leaves the windows closed so the cool A/C air will stay in. Unfortunately, he gets sidetracked in the hunting or electronics department because he has to have a discussion with some guy over some thing nobody really cares about, like ammo or gigabytes.......
It's a valid point though. What about the couple we just read about a couple weeks ago who left their baby in their nice middle class driveway? It's not always teen parents that do horribly stupid things. Does anyone know if any charges were brought against them? I do agree that every instance of this should be considered murder, its just such a convenient way of killing.
NC open heart: "I'm a man, I'm a Baptist, and I know everything". Are you kidding me. Did you really type that? Is that your line of reasoning? Come on. Geez!
Your begging for people to wait for more info, yet your last paragraph sounds like something from a novel. By the way. He looks stoned. Shock.... not so much.
NC open heart ... Seriously?! The poor man?! The poor man?! What the hell is wrong with you?! The "poor man" isn't dead! His baby is! You don't have an open heart, you just have an empty skull.
The poor man locked his kid in a hot car and went to work on his dirt bike for an hour or so.
You've got have your priorities in life.
NC open heart, no you can not see the scene. You are not even close (see my comment above).
I think you have issues.
@ Khylira - you seem to have a lot of negative views towards "white-anglo-saxon-person"/people. Khylira the term you used is offensive and degrading. You sound like a racist.
You are trying to lay a guilt trip on "white" middle class people on the basis of the case you mentioned ?
I'll bet at least one of the nurses at your clinic is a "white" middle-class woman, and you know all about her right ?
That is such a great idea skrewdworld. Let's take away even more rights from people and force even more laws on them. BRILLIANT. We have enough laws already in place, we just need to enforce the ones we have. People need to be free to live their lives and punished if they do stupid things like this. Should we try to regulate every aspect of everyone's lives? Or should we just hold people accountable when they do something wrong. FREEDOM comes at a price but I'd rather deal with the price than be enslaved.
Get real, judgmental prats. I just laid out one possible scenario in order to show that we don't really know. Appears I was not far off, his priorities and sense of self-intelligence were way off the mark....obviously. My point was looking at his mugshot isn't going to tell you much, he was in shock.
Hey pray hard, I guess you never did anything really stupid........why aren't you President?
BTW - I never said anything regarding appropriate punishment for him, I just tried to stop you judgmental fools from having the only word on it.
otto-372694 I am white and middle class, yet I see the injustices of our legal system. White upper-middle class people get treated differently than the poor and minorities.
I cited the same case of the child cooked to death as Khylira, I was so angry about it I even contacted the county prosecutor and he gave me this BS story that there was no law broken, it was just a tragic accident. (Kinda like the BS story they tried to come up with in Florida after that man shot the 17 year kid)
NC open heart Uhm, I think we commented on YOUR post, so the judgmental fools must be the one's that are posting prior to you....
Yes, you can tell a lot from a mug shot. You can also get the s%$* so scared out of you that you "lose your buzz". That is exactly what looks like is going on to me.
Either way, the man is an idiot for leaving his child in the car, and if you think some of us are judgemental fools, than I'm ok with that. We are only commenting on what is written and what can be seen. We are not making up some crazy story, that ultimately in the end bashes all men.
My point exactly there was neither enough info in the story or the picture to make the judgments that had been made. You joined the fools when and if you judged my posted possible scenario as some kind of assertion of fact.
I have no love of the guy, believe me. He "looks" like a typical GOPeep to me.
As it happens I believe that CPAC and the RGA are NAZI organizations set up by American racist elites and bonafide NAZI that we brought here at the end of the war and set loose. That's why the tricks and dirty pool on the part of the GOP. These homegrown and duly bought WWII project paperclip war criminals truly have been trying to take America by sabotage from within ever since! Luckily they do tend to get inbred and after all they are colossally stupid, huh, kinda like our boy above. hmmmmmm.
Let me have five minutes with these jacka$$es in a locked room and a baseball bat!! It makes me sick that animals and children are left in locked, hot or in some cases, very cold cars!! Why have children if you do not take care of them??? Birth control!!!
May I help please?
No bat.
Just put these a--holes in a car that is the same temp as they left these babies in and lock them up for a couple hours. Save time and money in the court and jail system.
Oh, please let me join you in that room. My bare hands would suffice and I'm a 60 yr old woman. My anger was overwhelming as I read the story. What a freakin' moron. Jail is too good for that guy. Castrate him so he cannot make anymore babies to kill.
Sorry Atrsy but if your a 60 yr old lady my money is on the half baked idiot in the picture.
Although I agree with the original poster. These clowns should be post children.
Rational, I'm a 58 year old lady who would also like to join in - and since I've had martial arts training, I can almost guarantee that 18 year old stoner would be no challenge whatsoever.
I would like to join you guys in the room and I am a 46 year old infantryman. Hell I can even supply the room (if I can get the warden and building Major to look the other way)
Morons like this, unfortunately, are allowed to produce children.
Arizona has Tent city where the inmates have no color tvs , no airconditions, just tents and barbed wire and desert. Sounds like a real nice place for the 2 of them to serve life in prison. oh .. and balogna sandwiches.
....from experience perhaps??!!??
No - it's not necessarily experience. Sheriff Joe's Jail is all over the news all the time.
Silverbob, you are an idiot. I'm suprised you didn't say "Obama did it"!
Wow, old guy, where did that come from? I don't know, nor do I want to know about Arizona prisons. And what does the President have to do with it?? Oh, I see, it's after 10:30 pm and the nut jobs are out. Ya'll come back now.......
no dont feed them make it slow and very very painful
and people don't think that prison is dishing out cruel and unusual punishment
If a soilder can live in these tents in the deserts why not criminals dumb a$$!!!! I live in AZ and I am all for Tent City, saved us taxpayers a @!$%# ton of money, instead of building more facilities for all of the criminals and illegals committing crimes. GO JOE!!!!
Yep, let Sherrif Joe have them!!!! LOL
Revolting story that I've sadly seen over and over regarding children. I see alot about letting him bake in the sun as punishment. I know from what I've read that most people in prison were abused as children and anybody who is in prison for harming a child is the most detested and reviled among the prison population. Let the prisoners in prison handle the scenario. Disgusting story. I hope the child rests in peace.
This is where the father and mother should serve their sentenced time at, at Sheriff Joe's in Arizona. Saves taxpayer money and gives them both a taste of some summer heat...
People should have to take a test to be parents, everyone is SO FREAKING STUPID ANYMORE. NO COMMON SENSE.
A lot of people do have to take tests to be parents. I have several tenants right now that had to take some sort of competency test after they had their babies. DFCS took them because their tests indicate they can't take care of a baby. Wonder how many kids in foster care get left in hot cars?
Sad, just sad.
Why would anyone be stupid enough to leave their child in a car in any weather let alone during the heat we now have? These people are a special kind of idiots and should not EVER be allowed to care for children. In my opinion the charges should be flat out murder with an additional charge of child abuse.
It's all about priorities. I would never in a million years forget about my dog and he sits in the back seat so you can't say "out of sight out of mind". Taking care of my dog is always at the front of my mind because I am his caregiver and I love him. But people are so preoccupied with cell phones, texting, sexting, hanging out, hearing about the latest stupid drama and whatever else, that I think it is very easy to become completely self absorbed. very sad.
I wish that there was a study to see how many children suffer from being in the front seat of the car, vs. being in the back seat, especially with dark tinted windows. I'm glad I had my kids when it was still legal and acceptable to have their infant car seats in the front passenger seat, where I could see them.
My heart goes out to these parents.
wtf ?
@silverrob, DITTO
Babs - what are you smoking tonight? What the heck does front seat vs. back seat have to do with leaving children in a hot car with the windows closed?!?!? Jeez! In case you didn't know, there is a reason that the law requires children under a certain age/size to ride in the back seat. Do a Google search and learn something.
Are you kidding?!! OMG these people need to be put in a car with the windows rolled up just to see how their child was suffering. Pure selfishnessand stupidity I always put my kids in the back seat ( where it's safer) when they were little and I never never forgot they were back there. I never leave them in the car alone when it's hot. My heart does not go out to those poor of an excuse of parents but to those babies suffering in a hot car. And whats also sad is the stupid ones out there who do the same with their poor dogs.
You"re not real smart are you silverrob? Babs meaning was that there may have been a better chance for passer-bys to have spotted the little girl in a front seat infant seat then one in the back seat. If the infant seat had been spotted sooner the little girl may still be alive. Why don't you keep your comments to yourself until you get a intelligence transplant silverrob. I guess my comment applies to W whatever too and abc whatever too, I guess you need to spell things out to dips a little better.
"You"re (sic) not real smart are you" William? Perhaps you shouldn't be questioning the intelligence of others when you can't spell or use punctuation. That should be "than", not "then". You used quotation marks rather than an apostrophe in "you're". It's "passersby", not "passer-bys". You didn't include any commas where appropriate, and you were too lazy to make the effort to copy and paste the names of the people whom you are trying to insult. Those are just a few of your errors in a paragraph that was only FOUR sentences long, yet you tell others that they need an "intelligence transplant"? When the shoe fits...
Perhaps better advice for you is that it is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
William-1954385 I figured out what Babs meant but these days folks tend to get all, except the windshield, tinted to 80 and 85% of limo tint. It's illegal in most states but nobody seem to enforce the laws, neither inspection stations or the police. My wife is a retired police officer and she hated walking up to a car she pulled over, day or night, without being able to see the occupants inside. Those she pulled over got two tickets, one for the traffic offense and one for the excessive tint. The excess tint fine was $275.00 a couple years aqgo and required the fine paid and a Department of Safety (DPS) inspection within 14 day of the citation date. What should be done is all those state inspection stations that allow these dark tints to pass should loose their certifications. Most police department officers (in the larger cities in Texas) carry light meters to measure light transmission through tint but most blow it off. The vehicles tint is supposed to be checked during state inspections but is seldom, if ever, done.
Also, restrictions should be placed on these custom window tint businesses for selling tint that is illegal in the state. In Texas, it is legal to buy a motorcycle without the endorsement on your license....that's another law that needs to be looked at but another story altogether.....
Well ABC why don't go correct all the comments grammar since you"re such a wizz but one point, none of my so-called mistake hindered you from understanding my point did it? dumbf--- so let me know if you have any other intelligent things to say to back up your point. Actually don't bother.
Willam, don't be rude, calling people names only reflects badly on you. You have no idea what Babs meant unless you are clairvoyant. What she wrote seems to indicate she didn't read the article well and felt sorry for these pitiful excuses for "parents". These children were deliberately left in closed cars in over 100 degree heat by these animals, no excuses,no pity. They need to be tried for murder. As for you, William, we will have to let your comments speak for your intelligence.
William...so what Babs is saying, since you are so ready to jump to her defense, is that "Thank God I could have my child in the front seat so I remembered I had a child and wouldn't forget that child. Had I not been allowed to have my child in the front seat, there is no way for me to know I have a child on account of my goldfish memory."
You, Babs, and these parents make me weep for the future of humanity.
I thought the poster meant you could remember to get your child our of a seat next to you better than in a back seat.
Babs, so you just think they forgot the kids? Does that even matter? From his mug shot he looks stoned. The woman is 30 years old.
um...what's your point?
No teacher I didn't jump to babs defense, what I did was clearify her point after some dips didn't get what she meant. I wrote my comment and I have read my comment and I don't see anywhere I agreed with what she wrote or what she meant. Others have commented with more stupid comments than mine by saying if the car seat was in the front seat the guardian would have been reminded that they had a child in the car and not to leave them. I can almost guarantee you that the dad had not forgotten the poor child because she was in the back seat nor do I think any other parent having done the same evil deed forgot their child because they were in the back seat. You don't forget you have a child, no he and all the others are guilty of child neglect and for what ever reason they choose to follow their own selfish endeavors over their first and only responsibility, their child/children.
Parents come in "pairs" folks! The father in one case charged...there is other family like ...idk THE MOTHER! I'm sure if you look at the 2nd half of the story the mother is charged...which means still there is a FATHER somewhere grieving for a child. On that front I agree with feeling sympathy for THAT PARENT! The onslaught of insulting each other does not erase the fact that families are hurting. Perhaps the effect of these stories is simply to make you TURN YOUR OWN head when you're walking into the grocery store to see if there's someone in need of help inside of one of these cars you're rushing past to get milk for breakfast. Maybe to slow down and look at the world around you...and don't you dare challenge this statement with "Well it's not my kid or my job..." cause that's a cop out. You aren't entitled to pass a judgement on an issue until you're willing to make a difference in it. Walmart has those posters in the entry ways for a reason...when was the last time you stopped to looked at them? Maybe if folks were as quick to help as they are to pass judgement and insult on an everyday basis we wouldn't have half the issues we do.
For people with a routine, it is very easy to get side tracked. Alot of these accidents are with rear facing carseats and it is very easy to even forget your child is there if something gets in the way of your normal routines(example being, on vacation you're lil one isn't at daycare and you need to run an errand.. well your child isn't normally with you and if something got you sidetracked, you may forget.)
People in general REGARDLESS of what it is have a tendancy to forget unless it is in their face, they know they're forgetting something but they just can't figure it out. Sadly until it is to late.
As for the second child, sounds like the parent locked the child in the car by mistake and couldn't get her out.. maybe locked keys in too? Kinda short on the info with that story. People should never judge others at the very least without knowing the whole story.
Sometimes its negligence and other times its a common mistake that turns terribly tragic..
aori---my first thought after reading your post is you are not a mother. in all my years of ''mothering'' i have never misplaced or forgotten a child. care of the children is priority one ---placing a child in a life threatening situation can not be rationalized with the scenarios you describe. no excuse is acceptable when a child dies in a hot car-----no excuse period!
I forgot that this board only welcomes perfect people who have never driven down a wrong way street, accidentally run a red light, or forgot their groceries at the store, let alone a child at a rest stop or restaurant, as the prime minister did last month.
My children are doing well, and are now tax-paying adults, who are contributing to your social security checks and library computers.
Aori, I appreciate your comments. Thank you.
Babs and William, you guys are right. A car seat in the front seat might have caught someone's attention, the shaded windows might have provided some relief. Nothing you said excused leaving a baby in a car, it just presented a what if scenario. What is with people and their lack of reading comprehension who point out grammar and spelling errors like they are some sort of elementary school teacher grading a paper?
If your prority is your child first before your own needs, than you have less of a chance of leaving a child in a hot car. If you can get sidetracked while watching an infant, you need to remove yourself from the child's care
I believe, what she is trying to say is this is, Bush's fault. But i could be wrong . I am not a liberal.
babs---all of us have been negligent is some respect during our daily lives---comparing the examples you have given in your post is apples to oranges---it just doesn't fly. i've never left my dog in a hot car because i love my dog. as stated in the famous book '' the road less traveled''---what you love you take care of''.
a year or two ago there was a feature article on this; apperently the number of forgotten child cases jumped greatly once the rear seat only, rear facing child seats were mandated. Still, far more lives saved by that mandate, traffic accidents are still more common.
With advanced airbags, that is why children are in the back seat now. The instant inflation of an airbag in a crash, even if the child is in a seat, is forceful enough to kill them instantly. Airbags save lives, but if the use of them is not followed absolutely to the letter and in conjunction with seatbelts, than they can kill as well. They are designed for older children and adults only. Not smaller children. But then again, how in the world can you forget something that you supposedly love in the backseat. Unless you have a medical problem, are under the influence of something or have dementia, normal folks are going to remember that their children or pet is with them.
Granny- you're right i'm no mother, however I am a father. I would like to think i'd never do such a thing with her, though there are times were she does just fall out of my mind. I'm sorry no one is perfect and if you have kids you are refusing to admit you've forgotten your child at some point or another. It may have not been a fatal mistake, it could have just been you left them in the crib and forgot to feed them for 30minutes because they were just quiet and waiting.
Sorry our minds are not perfect and anything can be forgotten at different points with differing situations. That is why we have reminders everywhere, like I said if the routine is broken your reminders may not be there or you may not even be thinking to look for them.
I've seen a mother forget her child in the car, it wasn't because she was on drugs or negligent. Stress, broken routines and a sleeping child in a rear facing car seat. We can only hold so much memory and sometimes we can't control what we remember.
NO PARENT would leave their child to bake in a car intentionally, now if they were under the influence then sure cook the parent. I'm not disagreeing with some parents being purely negligent and thinking its ok to leave a living thing in an oven. Some people are just ignorant and don't get it. Common sense in this country is hard to come by nowadays.
Either way, some people need to get off their high horse.. because if you have or had children you'd understand what i'm talking about. That is unless you're to ashamed to admit that you aren't the poster parent of the last decade.
aori---i believe your reply is heartfelt. somehow i can't wrap my mind around the idea of forgetting your child is with you and causing his / her death in a hot car. again i say ''you take care of what you love''.
@Aori-the 30 year old mother did intentionally leave the 16-month old in the car as she "shopped" for over an hour in a chic clothing store in the mall
I cannot believe the people who excuse this kind of thing by saying "So you are perfect, you've never gone the wrong way on a one-way street or left your groceries in the store" etc.
There is a HELLUVA lot of difference in walking out of a store without your groceries and leaving your child in a hot car to die.
The gene pool needs a thinning out.
I agree. The idiot pictured in the article appears to have the alertness and intelligence of a kumquat. The fact that it's a mug shot doesn't disguise the lack of substance behind those eyes.
It was thinned out. Happy?
Yep. My pets would make smarter parents than this cretin. Permanent sterilization is in order for this dolt.
I don't condone it, but people like this give justification to the eugenics argument.
Idiocracy is happening.
it's obama's faylt.
Okay Iceman99 but who's fault is it you can't spell?
j/k.
Typical political comment where its not wanted.........
There is a local news story on the surviving infant along with a mug-shot of the mother at http://www.wishtv.com/dpp/news/local/hamilton_county/infant-found-in-hot-car-in-fishers. In the comments section of that story is an insightful eye-witness account on the arrest of the mother, 38-year-old Meg Trueblood, who was shopping in a second-hand boutique at the time of the child's rescue.
The link doesn't work.
It does take you to the news site. Click on news and there is a video link for each story.
@ABCzyx remove the period at the end of the link and it works. ;)
Here is the link for the article, Granite's Link. I would love to punch that bitch in the face for being worthless. I wont even call her a mother. In her mugshot she looks like she was crying from being caught. If it was my child, never in a million years though, I would have black eyes from crying.
@CalicoWhispers and to think that 30 year old mother thought shopping in a mall store for an hour or more was more important then her 16 month old roasting in the car. I'll stand in line behind you to take the 2nd swing at the bitch. I've raised 7 children and won't even leave them alone in a vehicle to run in and pay for gas. Would it of been easier? Yes, but someone intent on stealing a child, or vehicle only needs a a couple of minutes, not worth the risk.
Stormrider we can take the first swing together.. I despise women like that.. I pay at the pump, here in Oregon we don't pump our own gas, I have been told it's illegal for us to do it.. The only times i have left my kids in the car were to pick up meds at 1am because they were sicker then a dog but fortunately I didn't have to do that too many times..
There's no excuse for this. They should be charged with murder and attempted murder. F*** them!
charged with neglect! thats what you get charged with for failing a drug test for pot with social services both equal crimes i guess
The "parents" do not deserve to be treated like human beings. End them!
You've got to be kidding ....
Careful BigBen -- your heroes (Romney the Cultist and Sarah the Moron) count on votes from idiot rednecks like this to win right-wing elections.
Don't be too quick to judge on things like this...
Bernitch...where do you get your political comments from bigben's "you've got to be kidding"?
This has nothing to do with politics.
Yes! There it is ladies and gentleman. The ill-placed political agenda. You, like these parents, should not be allowed to breed.
Bernitch , He looks more like a Obama voter to me. He obviously is not responsible enough to take care of himself, let alone 2 kids. Spread the wealth my a$$ .If you can not feed them , Do not breed them.
There is no excuse for this to happen to helpless children. There is no punishment on this earth that is severe enough for these supposed to be parents. They may be Mormons and thinking that the children would go to the Father's planet, be sinless, and wait for them to get there with the rest of their mothers, in tow.
Note to young parents: When out running errands make sure you look around your vehicle, maybe just maybe you might forget something or someone. And even if the child is asleep you should take them along. I'm quite sure most parents would rather have a cranky baby/toddler then a dead one. Pray for the children.
You've said it all , I have no other words that I can add about this awful crime. (wiping tears from my eyes) This horrific story put a bad ache in my heart. Does crazy bastards like these two still get a trial?
Where is the paternal, maternal instinct. I remember leaving a seatbelt off my 6 yo and a lady drove up next to me and pointed it out to me in a nice way. Heck I thanked her. That's my kid.
I have been a police officer for 32 years. I have handled such cases in my career, having broken windows for children and pets left in vehicles. Smashing a window out for a child was instant for the child's sake but I never took much time to look for the owner to remove a pet. I figured smashing a window would teach the negligent owner a better lesson than a tongue lashing regarding a pet. When I look at the booking photo I see a young immature man who is showing no remorse or emotion. He was booked for child neglect resulting in a death but I believe a good investigator would get to the bottom of this matter and I would strongly suspect this was a premeditated act by an immature man who fathered an unwanted child. I do hope an investigator with experience gets to the bottom of this matter. I have seen too many times where many kids just have no chance in life. Such a shame.
I agree with you Officer. the charge probably should be upgraded to Murder one - but I am certainly not an investigator or an attorney for the DA's office. I would like to see his life in exchange for the little girls - I will not bring the baby back but it could possibly put the fear of God into these young men who seriously need some growing up.
Scott...thank you for doing what you do...no living creture should be left in weather like that. It's good to know you have no qualms about the broken windows for pets...I have seen what this weather can do to a dog that has been left in this heat.
Yes, I agree-year after year we see this happening. I initially began to suspect this might be intentional because by now people ought to be aware.
The again who knows, there was the case of the young mother who placed the child on the top of the car, smoked some weed and completely forgot.
For this young man though, cruel and unusual punishment should be applied. Strap him down in a hot car for a few hours and probably don't even care if he too dies.
Scott I'm a retired officer but I still take my oath to serve and protect as a great honor, May these little ones rest in peace and with luck these killers get what they deserve.....................
As sick as I am of seeing stupidity and evil walk hand in hand, you have to see that this man looks feeble minded or maybe on something. Many times people have thought someone that was mentally ill was high because of their expressions and actions. The reason he did this, in all probability, was that he did not know any better. Just because most of us have seen or heard of horrible things, does not mean some of these young people have. Everyone tends to judge others in their own image. If they know something, that other person should have known it, hence the very foolish and judgmental statement of "ignorance of the law is no excuse." It is not excuse, it is a fact. Some people are so dull headed they would not begin to understand the concept of cause and effect. These are the kinds of people that wreak havoc in the world and cause so many accidents and pain for others. This is very sad, but I would think this person feels bad enough about accidentally killing his own child. He probably looks that way because he wants to die himself after seeing what he did. I know I wouldn't be able to live with myself. So all you people out for blood, this is not the same as the Casey Anthony case. I knew someone that accidentally caused the death of their child many years ago and wondered why they had to go to trial about it. This country is so punitive and always feels they have to punish others, even in sad cases like this. God bless these little babies born to the feeble and people who like to get high. They are in for many trials, if they even survive!
Yes, it is a terrible crime, whatever the reasoning behind the incident. It should have never happened and they deserve what they get right along side the 30 or 40 something year old man that left his child in the car and went straight into work at the office, forgetting that he was supposed to make a stop at the daycare. Do not group all of the younger generation into the same category, as many responses state that our younger generation is at fault. These crimes have existed in many generations, either in cars or "back in the day" out in the fields when children would die working in our American fields where farmers are allowed to work our children (some as young as 10 driving tractors). We have some of the best younger Americans who are working hard to straighten out a mess that my generation has left them, so lay off the kids little buddy(USMC1969). I am tired of the self righteous older generation. I have vowed to work my butt off into my 70's trying to help straighten out a horrific mess left to the younger generation by an entitled group of losers.
How horribly sickening! Stories like these will continue to increase in the future. The numbers of individuals who have utterly destroyed their own lives through countless poor choices is increasing exponentially. This vast and growing segment of the population have nothing more to do than get high and get laid. It is precisely these types of individuals who are reproducing the most in general. The incentives are there of coarse...increased federal and state assistance, including free food, healthcare, daycare, and schooling. Intelligence, integrity, morality, motivation, work ethic, however are not free. The lack of blue collar jobs, long since outsourced overseas does not help, but that is a whole other bucket of worms.
Freedom of choice-
I agree with you that it is not just the young people who are to blame. You are correct in saying that these things have always happened. And I know many wonderful, hard-working young people.
I don't, however, believe in blaming the previous generation for "leaving a mess" for the subsequent generation. Every generation has accused their parents' generation of leaving a mess for them.
And this generation will be no different.
