Hancock County Jail
Joshua Stryzanski, 18, is charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
A baby girl died and a toddler was in critical condition Saturday after they were left in separate vehicles in the Indianapolis area on a day in which the temperature hit 104 degrees, a record for the date.
Greenfield Police Chief John Jester said a 3-month-old girl was found in a car at 3:35 p.m., the Indianpolis Star reported. The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jester said the baby's father, Joshua Stryzanski, 18, was being held at the Hancock County jail on a charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, the Star reported.
Greenfield is a city of about 20,000 east of Indianapolis.
In the other incident, at about 3 p.m. police broke a window in a Ford Explorer to free a 16-month-old girl in the city of Fishers, northeast of Indianapolis, the Star reported. The child suffered a seizure before being taken to an Indianapolis hospital, a Fishers police spokesman told the Star.
Storms, sweltering heat move east
The temperature inside the SUV after the window was broken was 124 degrees, the Star reported, citing unnamed officials.
Fishers police said the child's mother, Meg Trueblood, 30, of Fishers, was charged preliminarily with felony neglect of a child, the Star reported.
The National Weather Service said the temperature in Indianapolis hit 104 degrees, breaking the record for July 7 of 101, set in 1936. The all-time high for the city is 106, set on July 14, 1936.
In the heat wave gripping the United States this week, at least 61 heat-related deaths have been reported, according to an NBC News count. That number does not include the baby's death.
Triple-digit temperatures continue to blanket many areas of the country. NBC's Michelle Franzen reports.

two more examples on why abprtion should be mandantory- the parent not the kid
Hi All.....So tragic & avoidable. There should be some way for car seats and/or cars to have sensors to set off the anti-theft alarm, get the headlights to flash, etc if a car seat's fasteners are still in place after a minute or so. Not sure how exactly to accomplish that but there are some auto engineers/designers out there who can make it happen. How about a sensor on the car seat that "communicates" with a adapter that's plugged into the car's cigarette lighter? The sensor will detect once the engine is turned off and then set off the alarms after a minute if the car seat hasn't been unbuckled or removed. Still means the family would have to have that kind of car seat and have the adapter plugged in, but there needs to be SOME way to prevent this from happening. There have been too many stories of changed morning routines and parents forgetting to do anything with the kid in the back once they get to work or wherever they are going.
That my friend is an excellent idea. Pass it on to automobile makers. You could make a mint!!!
Good idea assuming none of these "parents" set out to harm their children and just want people to believe it was an accident. But there's no way very many of these-if any at all-could have really been unintentional.Has anyone ever heard of a "parent" forgetting that a baby was in a car for the entire day when the temperature is nice and moderate? I understand that that is their story but I don't buy it at all. The days that this many so-called "parents" say they "forgot" all day that the baby was in the car just happen to be the hottest days of the year.
A few years ago we saw a lot more cases of so-called "SIDS" that weren't really SIDS at all.Instead, that term was being applied to any baby who died unexpectedly, which was a huge insult to real parents who have lost a baby to real SIDS.Then laws were enacted making autopsies mandatory in every case involving an unexpected child death, and "parents" who, before would have caused a baby's death and tried to pass it off as SIDS started figuring out that if they do that now they will get busted when the autopsy is done.So nowadays "SIDS" is waaaaaay less common than it used to be.
Now we hear about a lot of babies supposedly just disappearing and also a lot of them supposedly being forgotten in the car all day on the days that we're under a heat advisory or heat warning.Until all of the "parents" who pull this start facing felony charges and prison time, rather than people kissing their arse and letting then go scot free,we are going to continue to read about more and more children dying while strapped in a hot car.
Still dewlove's idea is a very good one that probably should be patented. With such devices in place it would become much easier for prosecutors to refute all the BS about these being accidents and it would be harder for "parents" to get by with that story.
Dewlove, that is a really great idea, it might make the costs of car seats go up, but I have no doubt that with all the high tech stuff in cars today it would be easily incorporated into the electronics. Go one further and it automatically alerts Onstar to notify the police.
I take exception to that comment Looser. I am Republican, but not Rt Wing. I believe whole heartedly in abortion when needed and especially if the girl is under 18. I will go even further and say that physically and mentally handicapped children under 18 should especially be able to get abortions. NO child should be forced to have a child to encumber them and ruin their lives forever. I believe it is the woman's right to choose if they want to abort or not no matter the circumstances. And to rapists of children and adults they should either be chemically or physically castrated and pee through a tube for the rest of their lives. And if they digitally rape a child or adult they should have their fingers cut off!! Call me a bit radical but I think I got a little off topic regarding the main story. These ppl should be made to sweat it out in a car the same exact amount of time under the same conditions to see how it is like. Make it twice as long since they are adults.
Not sure I agree with you, but I DO AGREE that it should be a woman's right to make that decision, not the government or some church.
oh these murdering baby daddies have nothin on these hotbox 'a'listers. check out w w w beberoaster co m and find out how the other half lives....
I am beginning to think way too many of these incidents are not accidents. I had 4 children starting when I was 16 and I never, never, never, never, never, never, ever left a child inside the car EVER. How is this possible anyway to forget your child? I don't even pretend to understand.
These idiots need to be put in a strapped into a chair a put into a tin box and left in the sun until they fry because hanging is to good for them
This is why pot shouldn't be legal. Look at that picture. Obviously a stoner.
TwistedCross... Obvious to whom? You must be some sort of expert if you can tell what state of mind a person is in from a photograph. Oh, and did I mention that assumption is the mother of all f***ups? "Judge not lest ye be judged." sound familiar? My wife is currently being treated for cancer and marijuana has been a Godsend! Do a little research before you go spouting off about things you know absolutely nothing about! Ignorance is not bliss, it's just ignorance. And you seem to have an abundance of it.
Some people are too lazy to just take a few moments to take the child out of the infant/child seat. They figure that they will be in and out of the estasblishment in a few minutes. RIP little ones
I wonder if either of these parents forgot their cell phones in the heat also?? Those poor children. For the one who passed on, may she RIP, as for the one fighthing for their life, may she survive and be given to a family who will do what parents are supposed to do, protect and look out for their kids! Then spay and neuter the idiots who did this! Children are gifts from God! Life is taken forgranted by too many!
When I traveled to Indiana and asked what is a Hoosier? I always heard "Who's-your-daddy". Apparently, those who left the children in the cars daddy was also their uncle.
One time a while ago, I was asked why was I leaving chickens in a car when it was really hot outside. My response was, I wanted my chicken's I bought here at kroger's, to thaw out a little bit faster, so I could have dinner tonite instead of later on..I dont' know now if you could get into trouble for that now..
Here's the link for the dumb!@@ boy
Here's the link for the lady
some comments about her just pasted from local link above...Courtney Sybouts • 4 hours ago −I was there shopping today and saw the entire thing. She had been shopping in the store for over an hour. She was trying on clothes when the police came in and asked whose vehicle it was. She ran outside and tried to stop the police from breaking the windows. Then when the officer came back in with the baby, she was screaming "give me my baby" and at that point another officer handcuffed her and took her out. She was not crying or remorseful. We could totally tell she was only scared for herself. The poor baby was in and out of consciousness and was so limp and then she started having seizures. It was so awful, and there were only women in the store so everyone was crying and calling her a terrible mother and a bitch. I hope she gets put away and her child goes to a family she deserves. She didn't care one bit. It was so terrible and sickening.
sandtrap6 • 3 hours agoShe even has some college, how did she get to be so stupid and where we're the other kids. From Facebook it looks like she has 3. They are really cute kids. Guess she won't be going back to school anytime soon like she says she wants to.
Just goes to show you how sick people can be regardless of level of education. Both of these people have no concern, empathy or selflessness. There are a few of you on here who when it comes to other topics, say immigration, who act in the same manner as above no concern, empathy or selflessness... even with the story about the immigrant children.. Please show the rest of the world and its peoples the same compassion you speak of on here about these children. Than we as a people can truly eliminate these behaviors because hate and lack of compassion are learned traits, unless your a sociopath. Oh, as for someone saying that we should all use tent city as jail for crimes like these... No way! Tent city is for minor non violent crime offenders.. stick em in with general population. Also, sterilization, I think, in cases like these where there is no remorse or compassion would be wise to save the future children the same fate. just my two cents.
Probably figured that the baby would text her if he got too hot in the car !
His problem is written all over his face!
He needs to be tucked away so he can never make another decision.
What a loser!
Terrible loss of inocence:(
So, what about the Mom that caused the near-death of her infant ?
Vincent she was shopping at a store in the mall for over an hour while her child was roasting
Wonder if the parents left their damn cell phones in the hot car? Poor babies. Babies are a gift from God. Life is just taken forgranted too much. If I ever see a baby left in a car like that I'm smashing the windows with a brick etc...don't give a damn about someone's property! Then calling the cops! Idiots like this should be sterilized!!!!!
Welfare has promoted reverse evolution... survival of the dumbest, laziest, least productive and least intelligent genes. This is a classic example. Elimination of welfare and a payment of $2500 to all who will be sterilized would solve so many problems.
More parenting classes are need.
ryiann... Education, education, education. Something "this great country of ours" is sorely lacking.
I'm sured the dad feel awfully sad unless he intended the act to get the wife's attention.
maybe he was trying to get out of paying his Child support. You wouldn't believe some of the things dads would say in my office about their children because they didn't want' to pay 242/month.
An 18 year old? That's what happens when children raise children. It's very tragic.
Yes, but at 18 you really have no excuse as to why you would leave your child in a car in this weather.
I bet if you took a random poll, you would find a lot of people have been teen parents, raised their kids and did it all on their own. I know I did. If you can go fight a war at 18, you should be old enough to raise a child. Not that it is a good idea, just that it shouldn't be that much of a hardship.
Very well said and very well put Sheila. At 18 people raised correctly know right from wrong. Have an understanding of what is good and bad, and know what could possibly, hurt, harm or kill another human being. No excuse not to know that doing this will kill someone.
As for the chick in the clothing store trying on clothes more worried about her window than her baby, and the other ladies calling her a b*$&#. Good! I am a dude and I would have been calling her the same thing, if not worse. I very likely would have been crying too, but I am in EMS, so I would have been trying to cool that baby and stop those seizures. I pray she doesn't have permanent brain damage because of someone elses permanent brain damage.
Let's face it. Abuse and neglect happens every day. Here's a couple of felony cases that got on the news. It's the tip of the iceberg, though. I'm believing more and more that Hillary was spot on with her statement, "It takes a village to raise a child." In some ways these kids belong to all of us. It's just really sad. That's all I can say.
Horrible to do that to children.
So, we see Dad being punished properly with his picture in the media. Where's Mom's picture?
I think Republicans, when they are fighting against abortion, should consider cases like these. There are some people who should just not be allowed to breed.
Maybe this was his version of abortion. i don't understand people who think it's wrong to kill a 3 month old baby, but it's OK to kill the baby a few months before that.
Katy M... Nobody really wants to do that. I guess you'd have to walk a mile in their shoes. "Judge not lest ye be judged." sound familiar? It's never okay to take a life, period! Of course, if it's children in another country, and we don't have see their faces then I suppose, it's alright, huh? Get off of your high horse. If we need a preacher we'll hire one. And, please, keep in mind that assumption is the mother of all f***ups
Nobody really wants to do what?
I feel bad that thechild died, but maybe this is God having mercy. Think about it. What else would this poor child have been subjected to by such unfit parents.
Common sense would dictate, and the fact that it is the law, that leaving a child in a vehicle unattended during any weather is an obvious wrong choice. I wonder if they have any remorse or shame after such a horrendous lack of responsibility towards human life?
Dewlove is on the right track with innovated ideas that protect the innocent. Maybe some temperature device can be incorporated into child restraint seats that broadcast a frequency when they encounter either low temps or higher temps and they are grounded via the belt system. This frequency could be monitored by local police or firefighter radios with a tracking gps system also installed. All about the size of the face of a wrist watch operated by a watch style battery. Food for thought for sure. This device could also play a role in child abduction scenarios as well.
Lock those two idiots in a car and leave it in DEATH VALLEY!!
Yes I agree this is happening more and more, it's an excuse to get away with murder. If you don't want the kids, give them up for adoption. Kids are having kids, what do you expect. They are not raised right in the first place, they are not taught how to be respectful, polite, with morals or values, because their parents were probably babies to. And I thought Noah's generation was evil. Lord thy kingdom come, please.
