Andarly Desir, left, and Corey Weintraub, both 19, were arrested Friday in the murder of 76-year-old William Norman, police in Davie, Florida, said.
A pair of teens admitted to binding, gagging and beating a 76-year-old man before covering his head with a grocery bag and rolling his body into a Davie, Fla., canal, according to police reports released Monday.
Corey David Weintraub and Andarly Desir, both 19, were arrested Friday in the murder of William Norman, Davie Police said.
According to the arrest affidavits, the body of Norman was found floating in the canal in the 1400 block of Southwest 121st Avenue by two Water Management District workers.
When officers arrived, they found a plastic grocery bag tied tightly with a cord around Norman's neck and duct tape covering his mouth, the affidavits said. He had several lacerations to his forehead and his left eye was black and blue and swollen shut.
Several items were found nearby, including a blanket, towel, tarp and piece of carpet. A cardboard box addressed to Norman's home in Tampa was also found floating nearby.
When police searched Norman's name, they found a second address in Tamarac. Detectives went to the home and stayed there to make sure no one entered the home, the affidavits said.
Around 10 a.m. on July 6, detectives spotted a man and woman leaving the home and getting into a car owned by Norman. When police stopped the car, they found Weintraub inside.
When detectives interviewed Weintraub, he confessed taking part in the binding, gagging and beating of Norman and implicated Desir, the affidavit said. He said that after Norman died, he and Desir wrapped the body in a blanket and piece of carpet, put him in the trunk of his car and drove to the canal where they rolled his body into the water, the affidavits said.
Also on July 6, Desir was caught on a surveillance camera at a Bank of America trying to use Norman's bank card to make an inquiry into a savings account, the affidavits said.
Later that day, Desir was arrested when he entered Norman's house in Tamarac, the affidavits said. He also admitted to the binding, gagging and beating of Norman, according to the affidavit.
Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle said the teens knew Norman and had both lived in his Tamarac home off and on at different times. Engle said the motive for the killings was money.
Both are being held without bond. It's unknown whether they have attorneys.

Just kill 'em and get it over with. They don't deserve to live.
Life in prison would be better getting passed around as the new young punks but it would cost too much taxpayer money.
@Seven, its cost LESS tax payer money to give them life in prison than it would cost to give them lethal injection. Just an FYI.... Really not sure why people don't get that at this point...
They should be bound, beaten and dumped into a canal. Let's see how they like it. I'm sick and tired of little punks like this running around menacing society. And how come every time something gruesome happens it seems to come out of Florida lately?
The reason for the high cost of executing a person is the amount of legal proceedings. Limit the defendant to three appeals. One each at the local, state and federal court levels. The entire process should never take more than a year. We need to expedite the process.
@Sam- you can get a firing squad, witnesses and a doctor to pronounce them dead for under $100,000. The Human rights BS is just that. Can't tell me 2 19 yr olds spending the rest of their life in prison is cheaper than a death sentence. I can add without a calculator.
It only costs more to kill a person that life in prison because it takes 15-20 years of appeals of the death sentence before they can kill the POS. Of course liberals count all the cost of keeping them in jail so long and court and lawyer fees as part of the cost of the death penalty when it's actually the cost of trying to keep him alive where the real money comes in. Really not sure why people don't get that at this point.
This angers me so much. They should be tried as adults and deserve death.
I agree, they confessed for God's sake, when are we going to stop allowing the bleeding heart liberals to dictate what happens to murderers and rapist and child abusers. I do not want to feed and cloth and give these things that are the lowest of the low a roof ovrt their heads for the rest of their life. A concrete wall and a bullet to the head will end it, this will give closure to his family and we do not have to worry about them getting later.
Agreed ... take them behind the jailhouse and put a bullet in their head.
I do believe FL has the death penalty so it won't be long before they see the inside of a death chamber!!
That's the thought that crossed my mind, blow their damn heads off.
At least they'll be tried as adults. While even if they get the death penalty we know it will be years before they'll be executed. Consolation is that their fresh young butts will get passed around as fresh meat.
@Sam1038: Many of us don't buy that story and incases of admittion of guilt, video, hard evidence like driving the victims car, etc. they should be dead no more than 30 days after being cauught. And who cares if it cost more, anyway? Death eliminates the possibility of either of them ever being loose on the street again and provides the revenge, or eye for an eye that some of us are free to want and hope for.
Bullets are a lot cheaper than lethal injection. I vote for a good ole firing squad.
Further evidence of the cultural rot of our civil society!!!
Where are their parents???
I'd like to hear their parents excuse. I'd like to hear what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have to say.
So would I. Creatures like this need to be put down, period.
Quit blaming 'bleeding heart liberals' for the problems with the judicial system and put the blame where it belongs - Rich Lawyers. I would probably qualify for the 'bleeding heart liberal' insult that disgusts you so, and you are completely incorrect about my feelings on this. It's not those who want to help people that are the problem, it's the GREED of the wealthy, so cut the crap, put on your big boy pants and do something to help.
Brian Reindl & onermailliw, Strange that you law and order types don't have a basic understanding of the LAW. In the USA that means the US Constitution and it's first ten amendments in particular. You really should read past the second amendment it gets real interesting.
For all of you talking about "trying them as adults", they are adults. They are 19 years old.
And for all of you calling for a quick erasure of their young lives, allow me to happily join you in this decision. I don't care how they go. Protect our senior citizens. Another vulnerable part of our society that sees way too much abuse or in this case, cold blooded murder. Ice cold.
Wonder what other "mischief" these two scums have committed in the past???
I agree Devil's Son . . . it seems that those that proclaim to be the most ardent L&O supporters have the least regard for the law . . .
Sam-
$1,286.86 = cost of drugs for lethal injection + labor
Cost if imprisonment around 30,000 - 36,000 per year
Nope, can't tell you that. But I can tell you that if you were wrongly put in prison for murdering (or raping) someone you wouldn't want to be executed immediately, would you?
Sometimes, monsters get it a bit easier than they should so the rest of us can maintain certain freedoms and protections, and that's how it should be.
Yea, because if we ever find out later than they are innocent, we won't have to let them out and then waste a lot of taxpayer money when they sue us for illegal imprisonment.
One would think that after all these people getting out when it turns out they didn't do it, we would have learned our lesson, but no these bleeding heart liberals won't allow us to execute people like they deserve.
the system posted the same message twice. replaced the second with this text.
I'd feel better about Justice being blind if the guide dogs weren't all lawyers.
@ Some Guy--- Cool thing is, they weren't wrongly accused!! They admitted to it!! Bullets for both I say. Send a message to the other "monsters" that if they do something like this, they want get room and board for 30 years on our dollars. These a$$hole$ can appeal the death penalty until we are all blue in the face. Did the old man get a chance to appeal his death? NO SIR. Neither should they.
Why not just use a rope? They can be reused.
WTF; what type of animals are we raising; i would like to see the background on these two POS; no doubt, high school drop outs, street kids, living from donations from people and robbery's, no real family ties, and most odds ,l drugs must be involved in some way.
I guess that's "going green?"
Too bad these POS' didn't resist arrest!
These comments are more proof that average Americans are bloodthirsty animals and don't deserve what constitutional protections you still have, as you routinely advocate them being thrown away in fits of rage. You simultaneously loathe and worship the justice system. You think that everyone else is ruining the country as you froth at the mouth and joyously celebrate prison rape. You act like murdering people for money was invented sometime after you crossed over the generation gap, clutching pearls and pining for the good old days when Dad used to kick your ass.
And you do it all in the worst English this country has ever seen, like the moron Saxon above me.
It's time we broke this country up and let all you klingons go your own way.
You do know that with this bad economy these stories will become more common, right?
Desperate unemployed youth looking for something to do and some way to survive.
You're wrong SAM-1938777....there is a lot of money made by keeping them in prison over time! RANDY-699352 is ABSOLUTELY right on this one...SOB's!! FIANCHETTO...stop, I'm getting misty!!
An eye for an eye.
That should still apply.
Does anybody remember Mad Magazine's Duck Edwig, and his Kevorkian machines?
There are so many ways that inmates commit "suicide" in prison, such as drowning in their toilet.
Fianchetto: In most cases, I agree that people let their rage get the better of them. However, for every person in prison (remembering that prisons do not keep non-violent felons who are usually handled with probation), there is at least one crime victim. As long as the U.S. Constitution has a wide loophole that takes away rights for crime victims, all the former victims, or families and friends of victims, will air their fantasies. I am a liberal democrat in most things, but when it comes to crime, the system bullies the victims twice. I learned all about the loophole in the Constitution from an A.C.L.U. book on the rights of victims. A victim is only a "witness" to their own crime, and any judge can decide not to press charges, because "society" is the legal "victim." If "society" decides that it is not a crime to kill, or rape, or steal, or get away with fraud or tax evasion, then the criminal will not be prosecuted. If I want rich people to pay their fair share of taxes (I do), then I want poor elderly people to be protected from crimes.
I only bring this up as a symptom of the problem with kids today.
BTW, some of you may remember that I recently commented on the lack of respect kids show grown-ups today. This comment is meant to accentuate that fact.
Just today, again, as I was having a smoke on my balcony, a mother and her son (mother mid-to-late 30's, son early teens) were walking out to the family car. Mom called her son (something, didn't hear exactly what, but it was NOT derogatory) to which the son replied "don't call me that". To which mom said (something again, which I didn't catch, but I deduced was something to the effect of "OK, I won't"), to which the son replied "you'd better not call me that!". Then, to emphasize, rather threateningly, he says again, "you'd better not call me that!".
In my day, at that kids' age, that comment, in the tone of voice he uttered it in, would have gotten me a smack on the mouth. And rightfully so, I might add.
Obviously, this story goes WAY beyond mere disrespect to ones' parents, but does however emphasize that fact that kids these days, IMO, do not have a fraction of the respect towards their elders that was instilled in me, and I assume, the majority of people my age or older.
Now, whether the old guy was abusive towards the kids, say, he would call them names on their way to school or something like that, the story didn't say. However, that's still no excuse.
String 'em up. Have them be a lesson that this kind of behavior is not tolerable.
Goodbye, losers!
@ The "String 'Em Up" crowd.
The rope idea is good. I just checked Wal-Mart's website and found that you guys could a 50' length of 3/8" hollow braid polypropylene floating rope for just $5.27. I'm not sure if that is a good price or what, but it would save the taxpayers some money.
I still say they should be beaten, bound and rolled into the canal.
Police are really amazing. Their detective acumen is extremely high and fortunately the common criminal is to stupid to realize exactly how good the police are these days.
The most amazing thing about police is the restraint they show when taking scum like this into custody. It would take miraculous self-control to deal calmly with these people and anyone who associates with them, once you know the story of their crimes. If the degenerates end up at the station intact, they should feel very lucky and grateful.
when the goverment says that the way people punish thier kids is child abuse,we end up with kids with no respect for athority, kids know today if thier parents even look at them the wrong way they can call child and family services, schools were made to do away with swatting kids when they acted out in school, and now we have kids taking guns to schools, it seems like every time the goverment does anything to help kids its the rest of society that needs help from theese kids. we need a goverment that watches out for all citizens and not just the kids, put the raising of our kids back in our hands and let the schools paddle the kids when need be and keep the goverment away, theese two teenagers are now at the end of thier lives as they knew it. i hope the court gives them every thing they deserve with little to no mercy
I am willing to sacrifice my TIME, SKILLS and EFFORTS for FREE: I will take the time to bring my .40 cal pistol to the location needed, my skills to successfully put many nonlethal rounds into each one....so they can feel the pain that that elderly man must have felt before he died and my effort of traveling to their location to do it.
These as well as many other of today's teens are becoming cancers! Shame as it is to say it is true everywhere! I dont know why the shift but it is sad to say it is more important to be armed today to be prepared for the next attack.
Hey give it a rest - there are stories all over the place. You just keep track of the ones from Florida.
However, for every person in prison (remembering that prisons do not keep non-violent felons who are usually handled with probation), there is at least one victim...
Nice Try.
"The United States leads the world in the number of people incarcerated in federal and state correctional facilities. There are currently more than 2 million people in American prisons or jails. Approximately one-quarter of those people held in U.S. prisons or jails have been convicted of a drug offense. The United States incarcerates more people for drug offenses than any other country. With an estimated 6.8 million Americans struggling with drug abuse or dependence, the growth of the prison population continues to be driven largely by incarceration for drug offenses."
http://www.drugwarfacts.org/cms/Prisons_and_Drugs#Federal-State
WTH...Florida again.
I think they just wanted some skittles, and I'm sure there will not be a canal side memorial for Mr. Norman because he was old, and he wasn't a thug.
never ceases to amaze me how many people are obsessed with gay prison rape.
Allllllllllllright Fianchetto, lets hear what your grand solution is! All you've done is criticize our system of justice and the American people. Let's hear from a "genious" as to the proper treatment of these two individuals after they confessed to this hideous crime. Can't wait for your amazing philosophical solution. By the way, just curious as to your national origins. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Pakistan or Italy is in the house. If you're an American......GOD HELP US ALL!
Disabled vet: Young children are being raised by no one. From the time they are babies they are put in a baby seat in front of the tv. so their parent can talk on their phone, text, smoke, drink, all of the above. As they get older the parent will give them a video game player, then a cell phone to text and play games on. The television starts it all: a non-human thing to watch and listen to for hours and hours...
Not all young children are being raised that way, Jeanette. Don't clump all parents in with the lousy ones you seem to know.
We need to bring back public hangings starting with these two azzholes.
wow, you gotta love it when criminals are this dumb and make catching the person who did it so easy. getting yourself on camera at a bank trying to get entry into the deceased's savings account, using his home and car? these guys were idiots.
Too bad Norman wasn't armed. These hoodlums provide no use to society. What an awful way to go. RIP.
Yep, concealed carry is a wonderful thing.
the perp's were said to have stayed with him on and off. translated, loosely, he was helping them out.
this is, if that scenario is anywhere near close, what happens to good people.
Course, there are many other scenarios, but, I kind of like that one. It gives the gentleman a bit of a halo.
some one should beat their parents for raising monsters
They were 19, which makes them adults. I would guess their parents raised them OK. The "teen agers" are responsible for their actions.
Amen to that. I hate to put the blame on parent's, but in a lot of cases it is the way the kid was raised. Some parents don't give a crap and let their kids literally get away with murder.
Parenting is a large part of why people become monsters; however, sometimes people are just monsters even if they had good parents.
At 19 it's beyond the parents control, as adults they need to stand on their own two feet. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing them bound, gagged then beaten and then tossed in prison for the rest of their lives.
Who care if they have attorneys! They admitted to the crimes, End of story for them both.
It sounds to me like MR Norman was a kind man who tried in vain to help these two lowlifes and in the end it came down to being about one thing for these two, Greed=Money=Death+36
In my above post,
Greed=Money=Death+36
The "+36" was a typo by my pooch, sorry folks.
Lyrica-I like that other than you forgot the obligitory 10 minute dip in the canal before being transported to prison.
WTF! These 2 dudes have about 10 brain cells between them and that's being generous. Did they actually think they could get away with this?
RIP Mr. Norman!
]bpj-2874743, I believe that they are evil, young men, who never had a mentor, how sad , ifeel so bad for his sons, or daughters, i would be trying to break into Jail, just to even get close enough, to spit ,ne at, if this, 76; yr, old , Norman, in their, eyes, and make it hell for them, i don't think that even in max, prison, they will ever see, another, day, or even, someone to visit, I wouldn't want to be any relations, with the monsters, who would of gone on living among, us , as if, they were, Boy, scouts, Hip, Hip He-ray!I seen to favor, torture,!! God i hate, this, stuff.
Juice-um
ececute them both....salt and pepper killers
Oh how sad... what a terrible way for that poor man to go. I hope they get what's coming to them.
there monsters for sure. but how many of them are left on the streets ?
There everywhere. It's the Y gen. Why should I do anything with my life? Free ride,I jost go jack me someone up and take there $ and if I FEEL like it or they dis me I take them OUT!
These two idiots don't ever need to be seen again.
The only taxpayers' money that should be spent on those two are the $6,000 per lethal injection it costs to kill them.
a bullet costs less, a noose even less expensive.
Agree, and make it in the middle of the square so everyone can see.
And a noose is reusable as well! An aluminum bat would be even cheaper and it would last almost forever. Charge people a few to take a swing, use it to pay for the incarceration.
Adam...
Sorry, a bullet would cost the state nothing. I'll be more than happy to make the donation, use my own firearm and pay my own expenses to get there.
We had public executions in America for many years and it did not stop crime so what is the point except to satisfy your own blood lust?
Devil's Son
Not a "blood lust", but a GUARANTEED assurance that the recidivism rate will be ZERO.
Executions only stop repeat offenders, they do nothing to decrease crime rates.
Life sentences do the same thing; however, the government can't un-kill someone after they realize they made a mistake.
Executions need to be gotten rid of.
Devil's Son,
The death penalty isn't about stopping crime, it's about just consequences for breaking the law. I dare say very few criminal laws have been written to scare people into doing the right thing. Most are written after a crime has been committed so that anyone else who commits the same crime can be punished.
In the case of the death penalty, I agree with it, but with some limitations. For instance, in this case, where the accused have fully admitted their guilt, give them 6 months to put their affairs in order and say good-bye to their families. At which point, remove them from society. Don't waste taxpayer money keeping such individuals on death row. Also, such a solution would be for those who are convicted on un-refutable proof of their crime (i.e., serial killers, repeat rapists, etc). And when I say un-refutable proof, I'm talking their DNA at each crime scene, victims' personal effects in the criminals possession, etc.
But for those who maintain their innocence and there is even a sliver of a doubt in the judge's/jury's mind at time of conviction, we can NOT send such individuals immediately to their death. Give them 5 years to find more proof of their innocence or at the very least, bring more doubt to their conviction.
@Sam
The cost of a .22 long rifle round is about 35 cents. That is 70 cents more than they valued William Norman's life. Justice.
You guys act like these people have a choice in their actions. Like they read the criminal code and decide what crime to commit. They probably don't even know how to read. Having grown up in our society and witnessed hundreds of thousands of killings on TV, in the movies, and on video games, why do you think killing a real person is such a big deal to them. We live in a truly violent society, kids used to play cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, and war. Now they play the same games but in more real fashion, the electronic video games, have you guys ever watched one of these games, the graphic violence in them is shocking. As long as our society sells lawlessness and violence, and enhances the taking of innocent lives, be prepared for events like the manner of Mr. Norman's death to be common place. Once we temper our own societies blood lust, then maybe we'll see crimes like this start to diminish across our nation. And for Mr.Norman, may he rest in Peace.
Someone made a statement about this will happen more because young people will be desperate for work and money. It is going to happen because some people were raised not to have ANY respect for life and want to buy drugs. They violently butchered this man in a cruel and heinous way and it wasn't because they didn't have a damn job. It is because they are animals.
Who CARES why they are animals. Society needs to be protected from those that prey on societ. Everyone has a choice to choose right or wrong and stop trying to explain away their behavior. You must be an idiot.
They look like two extremely dangerous animals that must be humanely destroyed as soon as possible.
humanely???
Sorry.... as slowly and painfully as possible. Permit them to feel the pain and suffer the same as their victim.
I'm sure that wanting to torture people doesn't make you just as much of a monster as them.
I put pet animals down humanely.
I would have no issues with putting this vermin down extremely painfully. And I wouldn't lose a nights sleep about it. I would show them the same sympathy and compassion they showed their victim.
If you feel that torture is justifiable simply because your victim is a bad person, then we have nothing else to talk about.
If you believe in God, enjoy your stay in hell.
IBuy: Please don't insult animals...
Good grief. The optimist in me says that even these men are capable of miraculous turn-arounds. The practical side of me says just end them and then we wont risk them having children or ever seeing the light of day again. I am pro-life and that includes being against the death penalty. At the same time, what good could these two ever do for the world? They will cost us three square meals/day and space in our prisons. Why not just get rid of them?
Ughh so hard to decide!
Submerge feet in freshly poured concrete, wait 24 hours, roll them off a boat into the Atlantic.
low tide in Alaska and watch as the lide rolls in-slowly-a little faster-faster
'hey-where'd he go?'
Some kids feel entitled these days and have no direction or conscience. Anyone else would have not been able to rob the person who showed them kindness in the past. Life in prison, death penalty whatever, but not allowed to mingle with the rest of society.
People like these don't deserve to live..just feed them to the sharks and that's it! Get rid of them! Don't put them in jail were it will cost tax payers money to keep them alive for what? 20 yrs or life? Get rid of them and that's it! If they commited the crime then they have no rights, period!
I enjoy shark meat. I wouldn't want it polluted by these vermin.
Maybe if you said let the rats have at them, it might be better.
you are right XD - i retract my 'low tide' argument even though it would be similar hell stretched out from how they treated Mr. N. - I love the taste of Dungeness crab
Time to bring Old Sparky out of retirement...
Are these lowlifes that murder people for a car to ride around in or for a little cash ever going to realize they will get caught. They are just plain old stupid. They need to just shoot them and toss their bodies in a dump. Now the taxpayers are going to foot the bill for lawyers for these two losers. Just put a bullet in their head and bill their family for the cost of the bullet.
We will be lucky if they get life nowadays. They are mentally challenged, they had a bad childhood, blab, blab, blab. I will bet you will not see all the black men and organizations at this kids trial.
I hope these bastards rot in hell. They deserve the death sentence so they can get their quicker.
I agree with the comments so far. Can't they be taken to deep water area and just be pushed in? This is they type of case that calls for immediate execution.
They should take them to the local alligator farm...and feed the gators. (why waste the meat?)
This is clearly a case of Florida Stand Your Ground. These nineteen years olds were following the 76 year old man, he attacked them and they had to put him down. Maybe they can get their case lumped with George Zimmerman.
Wow, what a waste of air those two guys are!!!! RIP Mr. Norman
They admitted they did the crime, there should be no money wasted on these two who are a total waste to society. That is another problem with our legal system. Why should any tax payers money be used on these two for legal cost and prison time. They admitted it, just shot them both and be done with them.
I agree except at some point; those two punks will both regret their confessions and some crooked attorney will find a loophole to get them out of it! Sickens me, but that's usually what happens. They'll probably end up with Casey Anthony's attorney!!!!!!!
these young boys should be executed. but they are youngsters, like travon martin. good boys
There are over 300 million Americans. The cost of keep a murderer in prison for LIFE, dividedby 300,000,000, is LESS than ONE penny each. That's a one time payment of a cent apiece.
Death is an easy way out for theses scum-bags.
Except that that cost goes up with every prisoner serving a life sentence. Why keep adding to it?! Just a thought :)
Arizona Tumbleweed
It does guarantee that there is a ZERO recidivism rate. Unless of course they come back as those Zombies we all hear about!!
no your wrong death is proper rather than feeding them not even a pennie a day @!$%# that and @!$%# you . so what they can terorize a drug using poupulation of smaller weaker non violent offenders in a society they can not just up and leave ? where they can run rammshod over others and take thier food and make them suffer when all they did was get cought with a pill out of a bottle? or not in thier name or any # of other things usually not violent by the way .
Wow rob: You must be one of them "mellow" druggies. LOL.
