Police in riot gear were dispatched to Los Angeles after hundreds of people, including occupy LA protesters, gathered in the downtown area. Msnbc.com's Dara Brown reports.
Police clad in riot gear skirmished with protesters, including Occupy demonstrators, in downtown Los Angeles late Thursday, leaving four officers injured and 17 people arrested. At least one man, who said he was not part of the protest, reported being struck by a rubber bullet, local media said.
A woman who said she was an Occupy member told the Los Angeles Times that protesters attended the monthly “ArtWalk” on Thursday to support those who had previously been arrested for writing on the sidewalk with chalk.
The demonstration started at about 8:40 p.m. (11:40 p.m. ET) Thursday, when protesters began taking over the intersection of Fifth and Spring streets, LAPD Officer Karen Rayner said. At times during the first hours of the protest, crowds and police could be seen running from the area. Police ordered the crowd to leave around 11 p.m., and a few skirmishes appeared to break out as officers tried to move the protesters.
Police spokeswoman Rosario Herrera told msnbc.com that protesters threw rocks and bottles at police officers, who responded with baton strikes, rubber bullets and bean bags.
Three police officers had minor injuries while a fourth one suffered a mild concussion, she said. Of the 17 arrests, one was for assault on a police officer and two for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.

'Chalk walk' march
Protesters posted this notice about the demonstration on their Facebook page Thursday afternoon:
"Tonight, #ArtWalk in #DTLA becomes #ChalkWalk! Occupy Los Angeles has had a laughably ridiculous 12 arrests the past 6 weeks for children's sidewalk chalk. Tonight from 7-9pm, occupiers, artists, enthusiasts, rebels, and the intrigued will defend the First Amendment and freedom of speech."
"We were handing out free chalk for freedom of speech," Cheryl Aichele, 34, a member of Occupy L.A. told the LA Times.
Messages written in chalk covered the downtown intersection, including: "You wouldn't shoot your kids for this, why shoot us?" and "Chalk the police."
Police used batons and non-lethal projectiles to get the crowd to leave, the newspaper reported. Demonstrators threw bottles and cans at officers. Some people in the crowd also told fellow protesters to remain peaceful.
A man said he was visiting ArtWalk when he was struck in the ribs with a rubber bullet.
"I was walking down the street and I saw a group of people. I was just here for ArtWalk, I didn't know anything was gonna happen," Charlie Shepherd said.

Skirmishes
Aerial views of the scene showed demonstrators throwing objects at police. A member of the crowd threw a traffic cone at an unmarked police car driving by and some people could be seen dancing in front of police lines.
During the dispersal orders, police told media outlets to stay at least 40 feet away from the standoff between the crowd and officers in riot gear.
The nationwide Occupy movement grew out of contempt for the “1 percent,” and targeted Wall Street, corporate greed and political corruption. Spotted protests have continued after authorities shuttered many of the movement’s encampments late last fall and over the winter.
Occupy LA set up its campsite outside City Hall for about two months last fall before some 1,400 police officers swept demonstrators off the lawn. As many as 500 men, women and children were estimated to have participated in the encampment.
The city council estimates the costs related to Occupy LA could reach $5 million for policing, cleanup and other costs.

The Democratic Party's foot soldiers are at it again. Maybe this time the effected communities will take a another look at how Mayor Daley used his police to contain the rioters during the '68 democratic convention in Chicago.
You're living in the unenlightened past. Evolve.
Just another useful idiot for the rich who cannot evolve beyond what his Mommy taught him: to be a useful idiot.
LOL, 'Evolve' is that what you call drawing on sidewalks, littering the parks and attacking people and cops that dont agree with you nowadays?
Demonstrating on the streets is probably more useful than writing on the vine. : )
I worry about the gestapo, err I mean police over reacting and really hurting the little people.
Well...it means not reverting back to a time when ignorant police billy-clubbed citizens with impunity...for one. Or didn't you read the Op's comment? "LOL"
Sorry Jimmy and Johnnie but you are the ones who need to grow up. Winston Churchill said that if you're not a liberal at 20 you have no heart, but if you're not a conservative at 40 you have no brain. If I didn't have to rush off to my job, I'd take the time to explain to you why you're so wrong. BTW if you want to see who received the bulk of the bailouts, look at the Obamao donor list. Obamao didn't rescue the auto industry, he rescued the UAW. BTW that horribly greedy hedge fund manager that Obamao chastised on national tv, the primary investor in the fund he was managing was the Indiana State Teachers' Pension fund, and Obamao's rescue of the UAW literally destroyed the pension fund. Those teachers are so wealthy that they are just being greedy wanting their pensions aren't they. Better to pay the head of the UAW half a million a year and give them ownership of the very companies that they helped drive into bankruptcy.
No, please, if you haven't already, don't bother to evolve....Time's up and some of us are looking forward to the end of the human destroyers.....Things'll be a lot nicer when all the haters are gone......
Obama? Who said anything about Obama? I know I sure didn't.
all I can say is they work for your "king" Obama. Better ask him, what the hell??
They wouldn't have to show up if these losers didn't start up. Take over a intersection and think it's just fine. I say stand in the intersection I run your ass over. Go out and get a job. What a bunch of losers.
The Democratic party isn't on the side of these people any more so than the Republican party is. They may be more closely aligned with the D Party, but OWS and the Democrats are far further apart than say the Republicans and the Tea Party (the latter of which is merely the vocal arm of the Republican party).
Neither party's really got our back, if you know what I mean.
These people aren't rioting however, so a reaction such as that in '68 would be completely unnecessary and stupid. Then again, the police forces of this country seem determined to escalate these gatherings into full blown riots like in '68 with their over-the-top actions.
Great, from the basements of their parents home to the streets to party down, leaving a nice fat bill for a city that's bankrupt to clean up. Keep going Occupy, your on a roll, you losers. Funny, we have a music festival here every year, with 30+ thousand folks, and the place is clean when they leave, everything these Occupy brats touch turns to crap. They can't even wipe themselves without Mommy's help.
John,Doh.. Stop blaming Unions.. and if he were backing the UAW then all the domestic automakers are recieving benefits because they all belong to the UAW. doh... or Derrr... or whatever. It isn't the Unions that drove businesses to other country it was the world trade policies that encouraged this, Lets say if you can set up shop in another country and only have to pay your workers a dollar an hour, you know you would move your company too. So sstop blaming the unions and look at the people in charge of making new policies and laws.
These deadbeats need to get a job and sit down and drink a tall glass of shut up. Oh wait, we only had 80,000 new jobs created last month, and manufacturing jobs are at a three year low. Boy, I sure am glad Obama is continuing his "laser-like" focus on jobs, aren't you? I mean, we need at least 200,000 new jobs created EVERY month just to break even with population growth. That "stimulus" bill that cost the taxpayers $840 billion that Obama signed back in 2009 sure has done wonders. Yeah the unemployment was supposed to not go above 8% after its passage (said Biden), it was supposed to create millions of "shovel ready" and "green energy" jobs (said Obama), and it was to have saved us from all sitting in soup lines and the Great Depression II (said so-called left wing economic hacks like Paul Krugman with no benchmarks and factual data to back that claim up).
I mean, come on, we've wasted $800 billion in Iraq since 2003! The "shovel ready" jobs aren't so "shovel ready" (said Obama), there are now five failed "green energy" companies that took in hundreds of mllions from the stimulus bill, and millions more have gone to such wonderfully wise spending programs like:
>$1.15 million in stimulus funds for the construction of a guard rail around the non-existent Optima Lake in Oklahoma.
>$3.4 million for a wildlife “eco-passage” in Florida to take animals safely under a busy roadway.
>$10 million to renovate an abandoned train station that hasn’t been used in 30 years.
>A whopping $1 BILLION to FutureGen, a zero-emission power plant that was to be built in Mattoon, IL with its CO2 emissions stored underground. Mattoon backed out in 2010 after the project was significantly revised. The future of the company remains in question.
Maybe these people are on to something after all. If those evil corporations out there and privately owned companies wasted money like the federal government did in fiscal policies, they'd be bankrupt. But what am I saying. Harry Reid's Senate hasn't passed a budget in over 3 years as the Constitution mandates. Like a dead fish, America rots from the head down.
Joy - do a little research on Obama handing over GM controllership to unions and dumping on the investors. Now it is partially true that international policies sent jobs overseas. Specifically it was NAFTA that Bill Clinton signed into law. But by the same token, we've had millions of jobs sent over here like automotive plants (most in the south and midwest, not in the northeast and Ohio and Michigan, heavily union states). Most recently, Airbus Industries is going to be building airliners in Mobile, Alabama. Once again, all the international companies are coming over here and building in right to work states. But to say that unions NEVER caused jobs to go overseas is just flat ignorant of reality.
Yes, it certainly is going to get more violent. I have relatives that are cops, I have respect for cops. But i totally blame the idiots that sent out the riot squads in the first place to break up peaceful demonstrations. Americans are not going to take too kindly to that kind of thing. If the Syrians refuse to take it, do they really think that Americans will swallow it? Not hardly. I cringe at the thought of the endless riots if Mr. Tie- His-Dog-on-the-Roof gets elected.
The Occupy thugs need to be sent to Gitmo for awhile.
Jimee Johnson, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
How can one respect ignorance and hate? Admitted, it does not help to respond with more hate. Have a great day, everybody, even the narrow minded, regressives.
Oh yeah the cops are just there to enforce the Agenda. They have forgot that they are actually Peace Officers and not Enforcers. I have seen 1st hand how the police acted in NYC last year and it was totally uncalled for. For your info I was and am not part of OWS but just happened to be in the area trying to do some work while being harrassed by the cops just for being in the area. Things were fine and peaceful until the cops moved in and the chaos ensued

Speaking of GM, the share holders of GM were offered twenty nine cents on the dollar, and the Teachers union did indeed have their pensions tied up as GM investors. Now the Unions, the UAW, got 17% of the company, they sold those shares and garnered close to four billion profit, this coming after the Obama administration bailed out the company for 30.1 billion or 60% of the company. The shareholders and investors, thanks to Obama, got diddly squat. The shareholders sued and lost because of this administration's breaking the bancruptcy laws.
As to protesters, I think there is need of a real protest, coming from all Americans, teaparty and OWS combined. Anyone not aware of the LIBOR fraud needs to brush up in it. Timmy Geithner was supposed to have been on watch after the trillions loaned to foreign banks, and it seems he pretty well ignored the situation. Essentially the US taxpayer has been screwed via interest rates on credit cards, home mortgages and loans and interest in general. The first bank to get caught was Barclays in Britain but that was only the tip of the iceberg.

NO DEMOCRATIC PARTY APPAREL OR OBAMA LOGOS ARE ANYWHERE AT ANY OCCUPIES. Know what you're talking about before you speak.
High temperatures, short tempers, and POLICE with guns...
Mix-in people who are pushing the envelope - to gain ATTENTION, with people exercising their expected RIGHTS...
Equals VIOLENCE, no matter what country you are in...
well if i'm being robbed i do not want a policeman without a gun showing up. these people need to move to red china of they want craddle to grave government . i want less government there nose is already to big
It's getting bad with the conspiracy group. Now they're saying Obama has plans to take over via marshal law. And OWS gangs are what he's going to use to start with.
Looks like another long day. I need another cup of coffee.
The heart and sloe people of OWS are protesting for your civil wrights . It is the 1%ers who called out the dogs on them !!! The 1%ers also higher pro adjudicators to cause trouble , That alone brings bad press for the movement. Along with the gang bangers looking for trouble . This is an old tacit used over and over again by the 1%. First they ignore the movement. If that don't work, they then try to smear or discredit the movement. Next come the pros and the fight is on . First the police get called in. If that don't work they then bring in the national guard. Check out the Kent State Riots , Anti war protests and race riots . The pattern will become Christel clear to you, should care to see it.
Bob, thanks but no thanks. I can fight for my own rights and beliefs. Dont use other people as your excuse for ignorance and violence.
OB
What you would be fighting ( by yourself ) is city hall and the federal government . Best of luck with that. Just remember that John Wayne & the cavalry only live in the movies. There will be no one there to help.
Bob28, your spelling tells us enough about you already. Go back to your video game and relax while we pay for you some more.
Holy Jesus laztstraw, is that all you can do is call someone on their grammer? You sorry POS. Put up an argument or STFU...
HS
Marshal Law? How about Martial Law. Must be a democrat.
these people don't want cradle-to-grave government any more than you do. They just want one that isn't in bed with Wall Street and deadset on screwing the average American citizen over for a quick buck...
The heart and sloe people of OWS are protesting for your civil wrights . It is the 1%ers who called out the dogs on them !!!
Seriously? So you get a bunch of idiots marching down your street creating all this BS and not caring who or what they run into, and you have the nerve to call the cops??
What GALL!! What NERVE!!
Perhaps it's just people who work and have worked all their lives who don't appreciate this in their yards...it's THAT simple...enough of this 1% bull@!$%#. Both "sides" get tired of this crap.
Oh, and guess what...if you are a policeman...man or woman (now follow me...I'll make it easy so you can) and it's your JOB to go where you are sent when someone calls or your commander tells you to, and someone threatens you...gets in your face and yells at you... makes not so friendly gestures to you..pushes against you or, more than likely, pushes someone else into you...waves a big stick/branch/ANYTHING that can be seen as a weapon...hits someone else, but especially you (now you are the cop...keep up, please)...wouldn't YOU stop them/arrest them? Why is THAT so hard to understand?
Cops risk their lives every day, and it's really pathetic that they are taken away from protecting people like you AND me from REAL crime so they can go calm down a bunch of children that think it's cool to be out there in the first place because they don't have to work, yet bitch about no jobs.
What if you needed a cop because someone was threatening you and your family, and you had to wait because they were busy with these idiots?
It's this conspiracy theory bull@!$%# that causes all this trouble. Use your common sense.
Wake up Obamaroid! Don’t be too comfortable in your surroundings. Here is some food for thought.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Steve..."HS
Marshal Law? How about Martial Law. Must be a democrat."
LOL! Can't believe I typed that, but I did qualify with "I need another cup of coffee."
(By the way, I'm an independent. It was an honest mistake from lack of brain wave activity due to lack of coffee.)
Can we all stop with being "Spelling Nazis" long enough to understand what the person is really trying to say? I realize it may be a bit annoying but so is being nit picky about a handful or less of misspells in a person's quote. C'mon, we're adults let's move beyond that and not waste space over typos.
And as long as I'm here, I do not support violence of OWS, but I do support their complaints. That being, the underlying causes of the stock market and housing collapses that brought us to where we are. NO ONE has been reprimended or punished for this, they're been rewarded! This happened under the watch of BOTH parties.
Is it any wonder then that the OWS movement is non-supportive and rebellious towards the two partie system under whose watch this fiasco happened. It is no revelation to me that the people who are most affected are now distrustful of the perpetrators or those who have turned a blind eye and are striking out in an independant route.
Get a job indeed! Is that you're answer to this? My 401K lost over 50% of it's value, explain to me how "getting a job" is going to remedy that? The government continues to print fiat money out of thin air, drastically devaluing the dollar and causing inflation to skyrocket. Please enlighten me professor, on how this will be taken care of by getting a job?
Don't get me wrong, there may be a few deadbeats in the ranks of OWS, no I don't support that segment. But I have heard the voices of those in their ranks who have lost good jobs that they worked hard in or have had their wages reduced to the point where a living wage is in question. A few of these people WORKED FOR Wall Street, they know what's going on. These are hard working people who are not afraid to start over. But when the odds are avalanche proportion and there's little or no reparations to resolve the issue, you have every right to exercise your freedom of speech and let you frustrations and criticisms of that system, which put you there in the first place, be heard.Sooner or later one side or the other will take a hit. Will it be those who have been hit before? Or will it be the corporate or banking system greedy rich money grabbers? Time will tell.
Bob, for your benefit it's civil rights
BluePanther: I feel sorry for the position that the cops are in; but Americans should not be expected to give up their rights to make it a little safer for the cops. "Use your common sense" is good advice for both sides. Dont attack a group of people because you dont agree with them. Dont attack them because they create garbage just by living. Uh, we all create garbage. Dont attack them because you differ with them politically. Dont attack them because you personally are offended by them. Dont attack them simply because they refuse to comply, even though they are being peaceful, and everyone knows they are protesting. In the end everyone has to decide for themselves. Do you want to attack a group of fellow Americans because someone is paying you money to do it?
AC Robertson, add the unusually high humidity in L.A. now occurring.
Laztstraw, kingofkings77, don't make it personal.
You're each suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
The problem with the cops is they go in ready to fight. Now, if they went in and told the folks they had to quit blocking traffic and not block the sidewalks, and the 'protestors' refused and started acting violent, then the cops are justified. If they come in all attitude and aggression and start the aggression, then they are in the wrong.
rc...no one is paying me to do anything...unless you count my job.
Create garbage by living? What..you mean living on someone else's property? Leaving garbage behind? I would imagine if it was your property you wouldn't appreciate the mess, either.
And how do you know I don't agree w/their politics? I have to work so I can put food on the table, so I don't have the luxury of stopping everything to make a point for months on end. I have to pay my bills, so I have to work. I finished my school...and trust me, it wasn't easy at tmes, but I did it. Do you really think a school is going to allow you to just drop classes and take 'em up later because you left your life to make a point for months on end?
My parents never helped me with school...they didn't pay for my way while I went off with some friends so we could hang out at the park night after night and bitch about how rotten my world was because I couldn't get my schooling paid for or get a job.
As for the cops, is this where you say someone is getting paid to attack? Where do you think a person gives up their rights to make things safer for cops? Because you respect the law, you are giving up your rights? Or do you think it's ok to be a jerk and treat someone else like @!$%# simply to make your point?
I agree that BOTH sides need to use common sense..I also agree that there are bad ones out there...but the majority are good men and women. I have some friends that are cops. I would also think that there are good and bad protestors out there, too...some that love to see some violence and think it makes things much more exciting. Unfortunately, it's really diificult to tell them apart.
I do respect that you support these people. I, however, am tired of hearing about them.
There are ways to control unarmed crowds, without reverting to GUNS...
The UK, EU, and other countries:
1. They first try to use barricades and fences to control the flows of people...
2. Then trucks with water-cannon and POLICE with mace & batons...
3. The final defenses are the people with the GUNS...
4. CCTV has become an effective tool to identify and convict the law breakers. Against both the civilians and authorities...
But they have been controlling civil disobedience for DECADES and have become very effective...
It is the Dictators, Thailand, and the USA where the front line is armed POLICE and backed-up with armed Military. No wonder there are ALWAYS causalities...
Civil disobedience has its place in society, but when your answer is GUNS and violence, you are part of the problem not the solution...
oh i'm tired of it, banks and governments were not made to make peoples living for them , THEY NEED TO GET A JOB, stop whinning for the government to give you something. let them occupy a prison cell if they get violent
No banks are in control of the financial system and they dictate to whom it will go to if any. They prefer you to be slave to their debt system and Government is there to enforce their system. It is like living in the matrix and the best way is do not participate in the system as much as you can, live debt free, the banks hate that because they have no control.
A job? What job? One that unfairly serves the exceedingly greedy interests of Wall Street, money men?
why work when welfare let's you sleep in and protest at night.
Your unimpressive wit aside, you misunderstand the movement.
A job? What job?
Oh PLEASE! Stop making excuses. Some police officers and other people are making minimum wage. LOOK AROUND YOU There are many jobs available. Of course, it won't pay you the big bucks that you want.
The "Occupy"people hate Wall Street, but they demand jobs with the same wages. The hypocrisy.
John. doh
no free lunch unless you're down on your luck and at the soupline or government trough., which are there for you. If you don't want to work for someone else, work for yourself, think of something and do something, i've no sympathy for you. Go to work
Or maybe one that gives you the money to live independently and not live off of other taxpayers. We understand yuor issues, your issues are with something you do not understand, its called an economy. You "poor me" OWS crowd dont care about furthering yourselves or the country, you just want your "fair share", which ironically is at the expense of others.
Those evil corporations employ millions of people, those selfish small business you were interfering with for months last year were the true victims of the OWS movement, yet you dont care because you think you are noble because some other idiot standing next to you told you you were.
If you hate corporations and how they work so much, go start your own and make it as socialistic as you please, lets see how far that gets you.
trust me... i get the movement... it's similar to the one i have every morning before i got to work.
expect it's less productive
Don't beg. It's embarrassing.
Excuses? What excuses?
What does a very recent, and very transitory, microcosmic, budgetary development have to do with socioeconomic evolution? Very little, that's what. Get off the headlines, as your incorrigible pedantry is becoming quite the unwanted burden.
What does this even mean?
This is just plain silly. Stop embarrassing yourself.
Was this clumsy pep talk directed at me? Rather officious, and presumptuous, considering I already have a job. Lose the sympathy nonsense, because no one's asking. Meanwhile, get lost.
Can't even get that right...I pity you.
What does a very recent, and very transitory, microcosmic, budgetary development have to do with socioeconomic evolution?
This is just plain silly. Stop embarrassing yourself.
Right! Make fun of hard working people with "fancy rhetoric" You are just lazy. If you had a degree that was good in today's economy, instead of spending all that time learning pompous English, you would not be writing all these comments.
Get over yourself and find a job!
So, we have grammer cops calling into question good rebuttles, and now if the grammer is good it's pompous. WTF you hypocrites... LOL After he stated he had a job you go tell him to go get one... evidence that you lack comprehension or are intentionally being f'ing ignorant and trifling.
grammar*
LOL After he stated he had a job you go tell him to go get one
You are the one who needs to understand something: These people are not accomplishing ANYTHING. A FEW OF THEM WANT HIGH PAYING JOBS, AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE SITTING ON THE LAWNS, TRASHING THEM.
If they really wanted to get something accomplished, they would start getting organized, not just sitting around, disturbing others. They want to be part of "Wall Street" or else they won't be happy.
Why can't they organize like the "idiots"of the Tea Party if they are so "smart" It is just lies.
they're actually whining for the government (and by extension, Wall St., same difference) to STOP giving them something. That something is the shaft...
to be fair, it's probably because they don't have one of the primary political parties of this country organizing for them and pulling the strings of the marionette...
Grover - Not so sure about that. The Tea Party started out as an independent movement that was doing well until the republicans became a cancerous expanding barnacle on their ship. The media was also involved in turning the reality into "news". Good bye tea party, and anything else once the media has it. I have no problems with either the Tea party or OWS which most would believe is a contradiction, but when you look at it from the street level, it's really not.
In the end, both movements are about giving ordinary people a greater voice in our government.
John Doe , get over yourself. Your opinions are of no more worth then anyone else on this vine. Trying to sound intelligent isn't the same as being intelligent. OWS started out with a good message, but this OWS is a complete joke and seeks confrontation
meh, they were never really an independent group. Rick Santelli's rant on the Chicago trading floor (televised on CNBC I believe) started the whole movement and they had been well-funded and organized long before the movement gathered any steam.
The tea party as a whole is/was nothing more than a clever rebranding scheme under the guise of a "grassroots movement", even if it is their right to do so...
they've definitely dropped the ball, that's for sure, however outside of a few circumstances (for example, Oakland last fall) I disagree that they "seek confrontation." Usually it's the cops in the riot gear starting @!$%#...
Grover - meh... missed my point.
5 deleted, JR11 deathwishing 'you p r i c k s' - possibly Occupy protesters, didn't specify.
You're suspended for a day for violating #5 of the Code of Honor.
Not deathwishing anyone is helpful in avoiding suspension.
Also, you can spell out cuss words like 'prick' without the spaces. Turn off your profanity filter here.
John,Doh, excellent command of the English language aside, you aren't aiding your cause with the way you are handling this. You are stooping to the level of those bashing you by engaging them in an unfair war of wits and name calling. When it comes down to it, you're being no better than them, which is a big turn off to anyone who is on the fence of OWS support, such as myself. I was with you until you started insulting people's intelligence and referring to yourself as a superior being due to your obvious education. Get over yourself, seriously.
If the cops knew what Wall Street scumbags are doing to the cops' pension funds the cops would join the protesters.
If people relied on their own savings and financial planning they wouldn't have to point fingers at the big bad corporations. Whether corporate or Government control your future, you are still giving up control of your own situation.
Take a class in financing, don't spend every dollar you earn and in a working lifetime you will not need Social Security. Unfortunately, the way it is now, you will then be asked to help the slob that rather smoke a joint and dream about success then actually go out and become someone.
@xscharm... You left out all the millions of scumbag want-a-be home owners who lied on their applications to get a loan... you know... the ones that had to take out a mortage to use as a down payment for a second loan....
Was that your advise when peoples 401Ks took a nose dive? Take a finance class?
Did you also tell people to rely on themselves when the government was bailing out banks and corporations with your money?
7.75 an hr in Scranton PA
democrats and unions.
Just consider that some cops in some cities are forced to take $7.50 an hour, and the "protesters" are protesting because they have "no jobs" that would bring big bucks.
Time to get a reality check. Get on the side of the law.
why do you seem to feel that these protesters merely want jobs that will bring in "big bucks?" You've posted this several times, and it's not at all grounded in reality. Just curious why you have this false notion...
Yeah! Get on the side of the LAW! Just like the founding fathers did! Oh wait...
Maybe Available "Take a class in financing, don't spend every dollar you earn and in a working lifetime you will not need Social Security".
All other arguements aside, lets get something straight right now. Social Security is NOT AN ENTITLEMENT. I pay every week into it, it's MY MONEY NOT YOURS OR THE GOVERNMENTS. I am sick and tired of hearing this sh%t. If you don't want social security and instead think private IRA's are the way to go fine by me, just give me back EVERY SINGLE PENNY THAT I PAID INTO IT first, otherwise the government has stolen my hard earned cash as a shadow tax.
@PJ-96529..... ever hear of 'you snooze, you lose'? I pulled my money from some stocks and put it in cash right before the plunge... then moved it back in after.... or otherwords.... Buy low, sell high.... I almost doubled what I had.
You have to keep up on your 401k... it's a game of musical chairs so to speak.
Why yes, cause that's certainly a wonderful property to have in one's retirement vessel...
I forget. What are they protesting?
@ Francle....
Because they are lazy.. and want their a$$es wiped by the government... which is funded by US hard working folks... who see our paychecks getting smaller and smaller because of all the handouts...
My 6 year old son asked me the other day why are'nt democrats in jail if they keep stealing other people's money..
Corporations and banks heavy influence on our government. Don't believe the Fox.
Plutocracy.
Any other questions?
...or did you mean bailouts?
so they don't have to work
parents have spoiled them
Bailouts= Obamas version of corporate welfare and vote buying
hey John, how many bailouts has Obama approved??
They really don't know. they just feel that they have a right to come up and create problems for those that are productive and whine when confronted. As they are being proved to be a violent group, their days of sympathy are OVER. Take them out anyway they can...
How many bailouts did Bush approve... just as many as Obama because he is the moron that started them!
what?? Your comment doesn't even make sense. Do your homework!
I think its because they are tired of the coruption and greed
they should start protesting at govt building then.
amen to that!!
makes me wonder
My God what an asinine statement! As if OWS isn't corrupt and Greedy? They steal parks and shutdown events used by the families that pay for and use these parks regularly. These same families for the protection of their own children need to drive their children around these sights because OWS locations are NOT Known for their security, safety or legal activities. A little ironic that OWS says they are there representing the families, yet these same families that must pay higher taxes to pay the police and city maintenance workers to control the trash and criminal activity that OWS brings. I have heard of NOT ONE positive thing OWS has done for ANY neighborhood they occupy, guess what? They are not planning to help anyone but themselves, why? Because they are Greedy & Corrupt, its human nature.
Occupy groups will not stop excercising their right to demonstrate, nor should they. If the group in downtown LA was not a part of the Occupy movement and they are just being blamed for a protest that was improperly organised and with violent intent, then Occupy groups should disclaim involvement. To 'take over' a street art event seems unlike the usual Occupy strategy, which is generally organised well in advance, with the proper permits acquired, etc. The Occupy movement, contrary to what the writer states above, is sure about what it stands against - Corporate greed that seeks to take control of government and enmesh citizens in slavery to huge amounts of personal debt.
if you take a look a the bankrupt cities... you won't find a lot of corporations.
just democrats and unions... but keep up the farce... it beats working.
Anything that pisses off the cretin right wing is good! Republicans are the embodiment of useful idiocy.
Are there any Democrats who have a job, money, pay taxes? Oh, that's right, they are fleeing the country like Denise Rich.
Divide and conquer, works every time. Well I'm off to the Antique Roadshow, I'll tune in to the soap opera "His Fault-You're Fault" next week, I'm sure I won't miss anything, don't hit the pause button.
Jimmie is upset that his uncle Jerry Sandusky is in jail.
wilman
Are there any Democrats who have a job, money, pay taxes? Oh, that's right, they are fleeing the country like Denise Rich.
Oh that's right, Mitt's money is fleeing the country to Switzerland and the Cayman Islands so HE doesnt have to pay his taxes, how patriotic!
Yeah, he's in line right behind Nancy Pelosi and Wasserman-Schultz...2 of the nastiest wenches I've ever seen!!!!
obama-azz
Wished they would lean more heavily on the entitlements, like farm subsidies, co-op subsidies and big pharmacy subsidies just to mention a few heh heh
80% of Farm subsidies feed the occupy movement by providing food stamps.
i might look at the numbers for these entitlement before I drew that analogy.
It amazes me how quickly our liberal media dropped coverage of
the OWS movement, unless it’s negative like this story, once they realized the
OWS crowd was not going to endorse their democrats in the upcoming
election.
Doesn't amaze me. The only reason why i come one here is to check out what the propaganda for the day is. I guess you could say i fit in with the 79% who don't have a great deal/quite a lot of confidence in our television media.
They have lost their credibility and relevance.
I agree, what little they had in the first place.
These malingering clowns need to be met with rubber bullets, water cannons and police dogs. Perhaps a thing or two can be learned from President Assad in Syria.
Nervous?
The jig is up. The beginning of the end for 20th century-style oligarchical rule. Know that. And no matter how indefatigably you post, posture, and portend, socioeconomic policy in this country will never be the same. You lose.
The occupy plan to take over their perceived injustices is Whineing to Win.
Learn to spell, then open your mouth about what you think you know! Yeah just what we need, more budget cuts by the republican's that want to fire teachers!
LOL...Why because you say so, Some innocuous nobody posting from the anonymity of your keyboard in your mothers basement, Your claim to be the 99% or even represent the 99% is bogus, You are less than 0.1%, You were a novelty to watch when you first started and that soon wore off when we all saw what it was you stood for as if you really stand for anything, I am waiting for the IRS to start taxing the income that you are generating from soliciting for donations, as the donations are used to purchase food, supply materials for housing and your entertainment these donations now become taxable income, Considering most of you deadbeats have not contributed anything to society I say it is about time you start paying your fair share. Then an only then after you have contributed do you have a right to protest anything, You are like the person that has never worked a job in his life and is sponging off the public dole out there complaining the wealthy are not paying their fair share...they are paying their share and have been paying your share for years.
Exhibit A:
The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
Well...yes. And because it's never not been the case. Change that is. Know anything about history?...pattern recognition?...interpolating and extrapolating empirical data? Because it doesn't appear you do. "LOL"
Says some innocuous nobody posting from the anonymity... Although, I would add 'intellectual invalid' to your spec sheet as well.
Yeah...good one.
My claim? I'll wait for you to return with a corroborating quote. Or won't.
Again with the name-calling... Also, I'd apply some self-effacing caution when attempting to expound on matters you clearly know nothing about, as you may want to research the socio/economic/political persuasions of many of our most accomplished scientists.
And as for the rest of your blithering screed, well...it speaks for itslef. Poorly.
Be gone, cognitive miser, with your painfully, pedestrian musings and such.
Sigh....always with the deadbeat, jobless argument. You do realize that most of these people are indeed employed don't you? Why is it that you equate people protesting against what you happen to believe in as deadbeats and jobless. Could there perhaps be people in there that have struggled to find gainful employment in an economy that tanked? Certainly! But that does not paint them as "deadbeats" necessarily unless you simply use these pejoratives to dehumanize those you do not agree with. This is a puerile way to try and justify your painfully silly and poorly thought out statements.
Who is John Galt?
(all the smart innovative wealth producing people have bailed or are bailing on the USA. The only people that will be left soon, if not already, is the "pedestrians". Good luck with that...)
Gov Hater, we need to rid ourselves of Teachers that fail our kids. That is one of the problems with our unions
Ok, let me get this straight. People organize a protest which seems to have been a peaceful one(despite the title of the article) and do things like draw on the sidewalk with kids chalk. The police call this vandalism...? and decide to send over a thousand police officers most i imagine in riot gear because of the dangerous people with chalk.... then they roll in and use force to disperse the dangerous calk using protesters and in the process piss off a bunch of people who otherwise seemed completely peacefully protesting, just utilizing their first amendment right.
So can someone tell me why they rolled up with over a thousand police to disperse a crowd of peaceful people doing nothing but writing on the sidewalk with calk? Why did they even show up to disperse them? And, what gives them the authority to do so when nothing bad was happening. Arn't they just creating a atmosphere where people can get hurt by stopping them? I'm sure that in a few hours they almost all would have just went home and moved on with their lives without WASTING 5 million of everyone's tax dollars.
They seem to be looking for a fight those corrupt morons who call themselves public servants. or at least use to. now they know its just a lie and are buying time before the majority of ppl figure it out themselves.
The sad thing is, the police are those typical union members who deny their own reality by voting Republican. The day they wake up in the morning and find out they no longer have a pension is the day they're finally going to grasp who the REAL "enemy" is.....or maybe not, sadly....
They seem to be looking for a fight those corrupt morons who call themselves public servants.
If you are talking about the police or the fire department, you are being unfair. You can call them that, of course, unless you have to call them with an emergency because your home was robbed, and someone stole all your things. OR, you feel that your live is in danger. Then you forget about these comments and call them immediatley, right?
If i may let me rephrase. The corrupt Police Chiefs and higher ups who order the grunts to go in with riot gear and risk injury over a bunch of ppl drawing with chalk that will wash away with the next good rain.
They are doing this for a good cause, but it need to be more organized, and more planning put in to it before the peaceful protest. Need to have at least 1 million people march.
why were the police there in riot gear, they wanted to start something so they could say the protest was out of hand. Thus removing one of our right, just as more and more are being removed. like have to buy a health plan. with out the people to protest we will wake up one morning with troops knocking our door down collect our hand guns, taking one more right, UN wants this now.
So for all who sit back and do nothing, just remember that some one was trying to do something.
Seem to me a blind man can see what this gov is doing!!!
Next they will be shooting the protester, as they are in one other country..
and mr db17 you are so wrong about the banks, and who cause this. this was not cause by the blacks or whites, in my town there are many houses that have been repo, and none are Black Families. This was cause by GREED, Wanting more and more for them self.
Seems to me obama want to dictate America, and ruin her, and so far he is doing a good job of it..SO all of you had better open your eyes, go back and check the things that have happen, then decided to vote for some one to protect our rights, not forcing thing on us. I had good health care until obama came along, now I have none and will have to buy some more. what happen to you can keep what you have... Wrong...
We didn't expect them to come out tonight....so we brought the riot team to deal with hippies....a real genius must be running that police department. Just think....if there were no cops there harassing people, no one would have thrown anything at the cops. Imagine that concept, if you will. It's funny that the same dopes who insist that the ambiguous mess that is the Second Amendment protects their right to shoot deer with an AK-47 can't bring themselves to understand freedom of speech, and the right to peaceably assemble. Go figure..
Yeah, I know, "get a job"....the fact that I already probably have a better one than any of you half-retarded, redneck morons ever will notwithstanding. Bush did nothing wrong (well, except ignore the countless warnings he got about 9/11, before it actually happened- apparently, he is either completely illiterate, or...something far worse than that), and his tax cuts are really helping this country right now (yeah, I know, they're Obama's tax cuts, because the GOP House held a gun to his head, and are now blaming him for what THEY did....typical). The banking crisis was caused by poor black people buying houses; it had nothing to do with the investment arm of those same banks selling packages of loans that anyone with half a brain knew to short, and then they couldn't come up with the money to cover the shorts when the whole deal sh*t the bed- if it just wasn't for poor black people wanting to own homes, none of this would have happened. Here's a clue: if you pop your head out of your a**, more oxygen will get to your brain, and then your IQ might go up a few points. Just a thought...
Bravo DB!
NO DB!! You missed it... its more like this... Don't block public traffic or intersections! Don't block fire lanes! Don't become a public nuisance! OH & THE BIGGIE.. If you want to protest and want to say you are there legally, then get a PERMIT! Otherwise the police will show up rightfully so to move your delinquent ass out of my neighborhood where I DO have a permit to have a business without juveniles blocking my customers.
Yeah, I know, "get a job"....the fact that I already probably have a better one than any of you half-retarded, redneck morons ever will notwithstanding
Then what are you complaining about? You woud be the first one to call the cops if someone would take your "precious" staff.
I am not sure how much you will accomplish by calling names to the rest of the people that have a low paying job -and holding to it because that is all they've got -
You need to sort your priorities first. If you want to organize people, you neeed to stop calling them names.
OWS want to lower taxes to the Poor (any one making 200K and below). so what are they going to lower mine to? 2%? I already pay 6.13% on 91K with no mortgage deduction.
DB, you say peaceful assembly while at the same time say they were throwing bottles and stuff at the Police, which is it? They come in riot gear because of past protest, you know the saying better safe then sorry. BTW maybe you can show everyone how it's done, pulling your head out of your azz that is.
DB17 your logic is clear however I believe it will be totally lost on the so called "get a job" crowd... where getting a job seems to be their slogan and fix for every one of society's problems on the planet.
This is really getting tiresome and redundant to the point where I think they're just parroting their moronic slogans so that they won't have to face the reality of what the protest is really all about. The fact that the would even suggest that protesters be killed says a lot about their mentality, don't forget the phrase "violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." Here-in lies the ruse of why we are all probably in the state of the union we are in...namely we have always moved on to the "next job" ignoring the problem and reality. This is so pathetic, almost reprehensible.
Dave
You're stuck like a dog on a bone on the "get a job thing". Your missing the crime, violence and wanton destruction of public property by OWS camps that the neighborhoods have to pay for through more local taxes. Show me 1 site where the OWS has left a positive impression on a single neighborhood they occupied, and then maybe the public would start to accept them, but you can't show me.. because a group of people that camp out in public places demanding the government pay their own bills matches the "get the job" sentiment the public has.. because Dave.. these are the same Public with Jobs that are paying their own bills, and taxes that repair the damage done by OWS... clear enough for ya?
K. Truant:
Since the Constitution trumps all other laws, please point out where in the First Amendment a permit is required in order to exercise our right to peaceably assemble; or where the First Amendment gives anyone the right to add parameters or conditions without the country ratifying a new amendment:
Uneducated people who are unable to comprehend and apply a simple third grade level sentence, is one of the causes of the downfall of this nation.
Debi
The constitution doesn't give you the RIGHT to break laws either, the constitution GIVES YOU THE RIGHT OF free speech and no one is denying OWS from speaking; the constitution DOES NOT give delinquents the right to interfere with other legal business and events! Again, show me one single OWS camp that has benefited the community they camped in, YOU CANT! But I can list you hundreds where the damage and crime has hurt the communities' pocket books and interfered with family activities, and you expect support from these communities & families, how delusional! ! If you wish to stand behind the constitution as an excuse to break every other law you deserve to be in JAIL! Under your definition every gang graffiti in this country spray bombed on every storefront window would be legal! How much more stupid can your argument be?
K. Truant:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Repeat after me: the right of the people peaceably to assemble.
Can you allow that to permeate into your brain? There are no restrictions or conditions placed on the right to peaceably assemble.
Our educational system has failed miserably.
OWS is a endless source of amusement for spectators and police. Where else can you watch people make complete idiots of themselves.
Well...right here...with your oblivious posts...for example. Just keep on tap dancing...
I kind of feel bad that that guy got a rubber bullet in the chest though if he was only down there to check out what was going on...reminds me of a friend of mine a few years ago (I got my undergraduate degree in DC)- who went to an IMF protest because a professor told her to go observe...and the police came around and rounded up a group of protesters with her in it...by the time they realized she wasn't actually protesting she had spent all weekend with her hands handcuffed to her ankles in a gym in VA. Apparently the University paid to have her record erased...
As far as I'm concerned, these Occupy Wall Street demonstrators, and their spin off groups are about half an evolutionary step below the Tea Party demonstrators.
I appreciate their anger, and what it represents. But unfocused, and self-indulgent rage will not accomplish anything.
How does Occupy demonstrations even compare to the legal Tea Party protests which are completely peaceful?
....and completely ineffective.
...and neither will your unwillingness to research the movement beyond the headlines.
You're right. The average IQ of Tea Party assemblies fails to ever break the 3-digit barrier. No comparison indeed.
John,Doh . . .
You obviously view yourself as an extremely intelligent person. Please provide your bio.
...and neither will your unwillingness to research the movement beyond the headlines.
I can make an argument about anything and justify it with all kinds of statistics and facts. OWS means nothing. In a nut shell it is a bunch of lazy people whose imagination has exceeded the original protest.
LOL...another one who thinks his intellect make him superior to someone else, Sadly you are nothing more than a pompous fool who thinks the world owes you something, The Tea Party organized and elected their candidates to represent them in congress and many other political offices throughout this country, Come back when you can claim OWS even has a candidate for office let alone elect someone.Come back when you have actually contributed something to society besides trying to impress us with how smart you are and how high your IQ is, You may think you are a genius and therefore superior to everyone else but in reality you are merely a legend in your own mind, America has turned the page, OWS is nothing more than a nuisance.
You do realize that there is no "Tea Party".
There has never been a candidate listed on any ballot in the United States under the "Tea Party" name.
The 'Tea Party" candidates that have been elected to office, as well as run for public office, have all been listed on the ballots as "Republicans".
The "Tea Party" is not a political party seperate and distinguishable, like the Democratic Party, Republican Party, Libertarian Party, or any of the other political parties that you see listed on a ballot.
More specifically, it's my superior intellect...that makes me superior to 'someone else', namely you. "LOL"
Not sad at all. Because intelligence is a merciful and liberating gift born of Darwinian privilege. A joyous reprieve from the everyday, the mundane...know-nothings like you. Blame your parents. Now that's sad.
You're boiling with envy. Coincidentally, 100 is also where your lackluster IQ will forever languish, a sort of cognitive purgatory. More sadness...for you.
Next.
LOL...as I said...You are a legend in your own mind. Go tell your mommy how smart you are and how you told that person on those blogs and how you proved how your superior intellect showed them.
You are nothing more than a bloviating fool stumbling about trying to form sentences with all those big words that you think will impress people.
Don't forget that most loose by large margin's. They even lost to a write in in Alaska.
You guys bashing the Tea Party might want to look to Congress to see what they have accomplished, now show me exactly what the OWS has accomplished. John Doh, love your comedy routine, but you really are wasting it here
Both of them voice anger and noise without content. The Tea Party brought us such candidates at Christine O'Donnel, Michele Bachmann and that ultimate attention whore, Sarah Palin. All are as scary for their brainless utterances as they physically attractive. The OWS crowd does them one better, having produced not a single viable candidate, and espousing no program or policy except to squat on public land and make a noisome nuisance of themselves.
Common Man-3493893
With watching people like you here heh heh
The ruling elite are scared @!$%#less. That is why they continue to overreact to every tiny demonstration of a few patriots, who are demanding a return of their stolen civil liberties, a decent job and good public education.
No, the ruling elite are not scared in the slightest of OWS.
OWS lacks political organization, direction, goals, leadership, and has failed miserably at putting even a single candidate for major political office on the ballot for this Novemeber's election, even though they have had over a year to gather the signatures.
OWS is adrift in deep space without even a star to use as a point of reference, Hollywood or otherwise.
Unless, of course, you wish to name me a person, any person, who'se name is recognized by even a fraction of American households as a spokesperson for OWS?
Perhaps that's because OWS is so fragmented they can't even speak with a unified voice?
Heck, blacks organized a million man march on the National Mall in Washington DC, what has OWS done in comparison? Chaulk drawings in LA?
Your only a patriot if your causes wins until then your a traitor or law breaker.
The Republican myths that "the market perfectly rewards the hard-working and punishes the lazy", and "the poor are just jealous moochers who want a hand-out", have been exploded. Just take a REAL look at the protesters. Many of them are working professionals, many are even senior citizens, but ALL have one thing in common - they are tired of playing the game by the rules and losing ground while the so-called "winners" cheat by controlling and manipulating the system.
Occupy Wall Street is happening for a reason...
Looks like ole Jimee Johnson knows a lot about "usefull idiots"...His friends are going to be upset when They see Their names being used by Him.
Why don't they try voting for Republicans in California instead of fiscally irresponsible Democrats?
They had a repuke once, Pops "Bonzo is my meal ticket" Reagan. He was as looney as they come. They just got tired of asking Nancy what to do next. (As if she knew.)
They did, and elected a weightlifter. Didn't work out. Pun intended.
the great socialist project of California is collapsing.
it's actually fun to watch.
And Moonbeam is working out just fine, I hear San Bernardino is declaring bankruptcy.
Oh no! Not another skirmish. I can see this doesn't play well with the repuke riot police.
Spankeeboy, what makes you think all these cops are repukes BTW Yankees suck!
wlee...you ARE talking about the baseball team, I hope...
And here I thought these losers were all back in mommy's and daddy's basements smoking pot, playing with their x-boxes, and tweeting nonsense.
Name calling is all you have left. We'll take that too. Soon.
glad to see you finally came out of the closet with your real agenda. Strip America of their freedoms. You guys are pathetic!! GOODLUCK with all that. You have a lot of real Americans left out here with some balls!!
Yeah the Gaseous Old Pharts and their Nazi cops aint gonna have no more 99 percenter protesting now. They did not mind it last time because they knew it would fizzle out before Nov. 2012. They don't want the country reminded how they have been raping the economy with their treasonist actions so close to the election.
Amazing that you think the GOP is in control of LA. What is REALLY scary is that people like you actually go to the voting booths with no clue beyond what some sound bite told you. And people wonder why our country is in such trouble and our politics are polarized.
No what is amazing is that Fox News has ditto heads like you by the millions so brainwashed that you think the Gaseous Old Pharts actually care about you or this country.
Three things I'd like to point out:
1. This little stunt cost the taxpayers $5 million. These protestors aren't exactly helping the 99%.
2. Why violence? Hard to take the side of the protestors if they incite violence.
3. Only Nazis were Nazis. No one else is that evil. Nazis stand alone in history. Do not make that comparison to cops, it shows historical ignorance.
Oh they got some proud arians in the lapd and dont you forget it. Where'd you pull that 5 mill figure from? Probably same place you gop'ers get most of you data.
The $5 mil is in the article, read it. As for there being arians in the police force, that may be true, but I would argue that not all of them are. And I would argue that arians are still a far cry from the evil Nazis. You can't go around making sweeping generalizations about groups of people. That's a big problem in this country.
I am simply stating facts: it will cost $5 mil, the protestors incited violence, and Nazis are more evil than anyone. None of that has anything to do with how I vote. I actually think they could do some good if they were organized. This incident did no good for anyone.
No one asked anyone to spend $5 million to stop Americans from exercising their 1st amendment rights. So boo hoo!
So much for 2nd amendment rights helping we the people exercise our 1st amendment rights. Check it out everyone!
Did you mean Aryans?
Michael...you're bordering on bigotry...please stop...you aren't making your point...
It's bad enough these a@@h$$$s infringe on their fellow citizens rights (property) now the number of ~ 5 mil. of their dollars too! I hope these two things plus the violence will encourage people to avoid their "movement" like the plague.
People need to get over this mentality that if they scream and squawk enough, they'll get what they want. The fact is that cities and states are in dire financial shape. There is very little money to do even the status quo. This idea that corporations and those pesky rich people are simply going to turn over all their money to be redistributed to those who feel they deserve it is ridiculous.
