Im not one for violence but this kind of treatment of another human being makes me wish we had Saudi laws. There is no punishment these worthless kids will ever get. No matter what happens they will be allowed to live when they surely do not deserve it.

The best punishment would be to allow the family members of the victim to be locked in a room with these worthless b@stards for 10 mins. I think then, justice would be well served.

Where the heck are the parents to these kids. These kids were obviously not starving, they have cell phones. So they are just cruel. I'm assuming these kids likely didn't come from any kind of a loving home but as a parents, and as a society I think we are setting the bar pretty low when we consider it acheivement if our kids remember "thou shalt not kill". Obviously in this case, they couldn't even do that.

Let's not pretend that there isn't a disproportionate amount of these people who have little education and little push to get one and become self-sufficient. Further, I have seen more than one gang member whose family actively defended them after the gang member committed a heinous crime because "they were a good father/son/husband." Unfortunately, too many people these days stand by their kids no matter what, including hiring pricey defense attorneys at the expense of their other obligations to keep these people out of jail because "he/she is my kid and I love him/her" or "my little boy/girl could never do such a thing." When I was a kid, if I got into trouble, my parents didn't defend me. My parents didn't assume others were being too harsh and rush to my aid. They flat asked me what I did, and they knew I had done SOMETHING despite my efforts to make it seem like the other person was in the wrong. This was my parents doing their job as parents.

This is just stupid people without a proper respect for life. There are plenty of these people, sadly, and they aren't limited to one political party.

prisfiles-#4.....I believe each state is different but, I used to work for my county's welfare program. They've tried for years to reform it, but those who are in the "cycle" know the ways around it. The state puts lifetime limits on the adults.......doesn't mean they weren't collecting for their kids for the next 18 years......the state tried to discourage having more children while on welfare by putting a "if you give birth to a child within 10 months of being on welfare, that child will not qualify for welfare".....they get off for a month then reapply. They have welfare-to-work programs.......these recipients call and reschedule over and over again. However, if you ever walk into any government agency they're constantly behind, too big of a case load seems to be a common complaint.......why not make these welfare recipients do some filing, sort some mail, etc. Want a government check....EARN it........this could give some a sense of pride as well as a good reference. Wouldn't work for all, and those who it does not work for.....welcome to the homeless programs!

Obviously a person who has never studied criminal law. We have super due process in the USA. Super due process is in place to ensure that no one is put to death if there is a chance they are innocent. That is why most people sit on death row so long because they have a certain number of appeals they can make. The cost has been figured out that repeatedly trying someone and letting them have appeals costs as much or more than just letting them sit and rot for life. Not saying if it is right or wrong but I certainly would want multiple appeals if I was on death row and knew I did not do it. That being said these kids are dumber than a box of rocks and made a video recording. I'd shoot them gladly. BTW all the political comments sicken me. This is a tragedy and a failing in our culture that is across the board EVERYONE's fault.

Dan, I agree with you that education is the answer. However, pouring more money into a failed system is only going to make the failed system even stronger. It is time to undo the past 35 years of education reform and try another method of schooling, perhaps bring the control of the schools back to the local level, get rid of the national teachers union (I only say this because where I live, 95% of the school budget goes directly to the teachers, administrators, and the retirees), kids deserve more than a nickle outta every education dollar. Didn't the teachers in Chicago just strike for like a 30% pay raise?

Education would help. But people like that are the ones who have the opportunity to go to the same schools as everybody else, but refuse to actively participate in education. They are the ones who are disruptive in class, bully the other kids and the teachers, play hooky, and act like it's a dishonor the cooperate with "da man". They establish a society in which they fantasize themselves to be "folk heros", and can't get or hold a job, because they'd have to follow instructions from a real adult. Jim - Much of this "laziness on the parent's part" is a result of a single mother working 2 or 3 jobs trying to make ends meet. Then the kids have to grow up with no supervision because the Social Services programs have been cut to the bone in order to keep taxes low. The only "lazy parent" in most of these families is the father who has his fun and then leaves when the going gets tough because he never grew up to be a man(a mensch.)

Having a little bit of standards in who you pick to be your child's other parent really goes a long way. Pay attention to the "red flags"...multiple children, by multiple people....never been married.....don't work, yet still finds money & time to party......what would you expect? I'm not totally against social programs when they're actually needed.....for a very short term.
