Subscribe to RSSThe number of apprehensions of people for federal immigration violations has dropped to its lowest level in 40 years, reflecting a decline in the northbound traffic of illegal immigrants from Mexico, according to a government report released Wednesday.
The report, released by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, said such apprehensions stood at 1.8 million in 2000, but declined dramatically to 516,992 in 2010, the lowest level since 1972.
"Most people don't want to leave (their home county)," said Lisa Garcia Bedolla, a University of California-Berkley social and cultural studies associate professor. "Things aren't that bad in the Mexican economy right now."
Meanwhile, arrests for criminal immigration offenses are rising. Suspects arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service for federal criminal immigration offenses increased from 8,777 in 1994 to 82,438 in 2010.

Most arrests and apprehensions in 2010 were concentrated on the Southwest border sectors.
The most common offense, according to the report, is illegal re-entry followed by alien smuggling and misuse of visas.
Mexican citizens made up 83 percent of deportable aliens in 2010, down from 94 percent in 2002.
However, the number of deportable aliens coming from Central America increased from 3 percent to 12 percent during an eight-year period ending in 2010.
The number of Border Patrol officers doubled from 10,819 in 2004 to 20,558 in 2010, with most located along states that abut Mexico.

The study classifies immigration apprehension as a case where a foreign national is caught in the U.S. illegally, while an arrest refers to the booking of an individual by the U.S. Marshals for violating federal immigration law.
Both terms represent events rather than individuals because a person can be apprehended or arrested more than once, the report explains.

I submit that the drop in illegal immigration arrests is due to Pres Obama gutting the Border Patrol and INS and ordering them to not arrest any more illegals, just the criminal ones. Oops, isn't an illegal immigrant a criminal??
For the past three decade Southern California has been a Mexican ccupied territory. Four decades of fake immigration enforcement followed by Amnesty Program have transformed Southern California from an oasis to a waste land infested by criminals, fugitives, drug addicts and traffickers, desperados, gang-bangers, chronic jobless, perpetual welfare recipients, and other low-lifers. By all accounts, these highly-sought-after citizens from around the world merely walked across from the South-of-the-Border into Southern California.
Southern California is a nightmare, not the 'California Dream' that the evil real estate developers had once advertised. Los Angeles City has become California's version of 'Detroit.' Like the symptoms of the dying Detroit, Los Angeles has been crippled by out-of-control crime rates, afflicted by corrupt police and politicians, and financially depleted by powerful labor unions. Like Mexico's corruption infested law enforcement, LAPD resembles the Federales or the local police. Like the mismanaged Detroit, Los Angeles City is basically insolvent but for 'creative' accounting. For nearly four decades, crafty politicians and special interest robbed the City's treasury through clever expenditure programs under the smoke screen of socialism.
As the contagion spread, urban blight and ghetto cultures become endemic and systemic, developing immunity to eradication. In response to this curse, a nearly biblical exodus occured. First, White-Flight and later, anyone-with-money-and-ability, abandoned Los Angels to distance suburbs. As the surrounding adjacent cities of Los Angeles such as Compton, El Monte, Montebello, Maywood, Cudahy, Vernon, Ingelwood, Hollywood, and etc suffered the contagion through spill-overs, the entire Southern California became a deadly zone inhabited by the poor, illegal immigrants, the criminals, drug dealers, pimps, whores, gangsters and other undesirables.
In biblical times, a Mighty Force destroyed an ancient city plagued by similar depravity as found in Southern California. At the appointed hour, Saint Andres and his mightly fault will deliver the power of cleansing, not by turning City of Los Angeles into stones but into the depth of the Pacific Ocean.

When I was young, I remember hearing about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island .. They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breathe free. They wanted to become Americans. Now too many immigrants come here with demands. They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand special privileges--affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify their culture.

Actually it is the black Democrats who have been thrown under the bus as a new minority class is being imported that will supercede them once voting rights are granted. In many ways blacks have already become "2nd class" to illegals which is truly pathetic because no legal citizen should be.

Why come to a nation that you actively hate and plan to work and fight against its people and government? Didnt they come because they loved what they saw and heard; wanting to be apart of it? I gather MSNBC loathes to do the research, but if you look, you discover the nifty way to improve your police and criminal profile in places such as city-data.com is to simply ..not.. answer the calls for help, and not arrest anyone. Check the news and you discover Obama specifically told the Border Patrol to lay off the arrests. I don't think they intended to do that: the Immigration Officers intended to honor their oaths of office. But if you cut their gas, or disable their overtime, there is no choice and the Presidents statistics improve.
