Zimmerman to appear on Fox to 'open up' about night of Trayvon Martin shooting

George Zimmerman, left, and defense attorney Mark O'Mara, center, in an interview taped Wednesday morning with Sean Hannity of Fox News.

George Zimmerman has granted an exclusive interview to Fox News' Sean Hannity, scheduled to air Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, Fox announced.

"Zimmerman will open up about what happened the night of Trayvon Martin’s death and his experience in the aftermath of the fatal shooting," according to a Fox press release.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Martin, an unarmed black teenager, on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla. The case has become the focus of national media, and ignited an emotional debate over race and gun rights.

Zimmerman, the son of a white father and Peruvian mother of Hispanic descent, has pleaded innocent to the murder charge, and says that he shot Martin in self-defense after Martin attacked him. He is out on bail preparing for a trial.

During the hour-long interview to air on Hannity’s program, Zimmerman and attorney Mark O’Mara will discuss the night of the shooting, and address rumors about about bail donations and hidden money, Mediabistro.com reported

During its 6 p.m. news program, the Fox-owned station in Orlando, WOFL, aired a clip from the interview, the Orlando Sentinel reported in a blog.

"My wife and I don’t have any children," the newspaper quoted Zimmerman as saying. "I love my children even though they aren’t born yet. I am sorry that they buried their child. I can’t imagine what it must feel like, and I pray for them daily."

A legal expert following the case said there were several possible strategic reasons for O'Mara to allow his client to appear on national television.

"Clearly they are trying to humanize (Zimmerman) some more and give his story some traction," said retired judge and former prosecutor Phyllis Kotey, who now teaches at Florida International University College of Law.

They may also see it as a test run for court, she said.

"It's a chance to hone the story and test it — test versions, what works, reactions, to see what’s going to happen," she said. "It's an opportunity to see how a particular position will play."

She noted that in a television appearance, Zimmerman can speak without the risk of cross-examination by the prosecution.

"Every time he does something public like this, he has an oppportunity to get information to the potential jurors without having to take the stand," said Kotey.

Requests for comment from O'Mara's office were not immediately answered.

Fox News spokesperson Carly Shanahan said there was no payment in return for the exclusive interview.

The interview, which was taped Wednesday morning, is slated to run a second time at midnight ET.

It it because this worked so well for Sandusky? It never fails to amaze me about why idiots like this will expose themselves to more trouble then they will solve by doing these interviews. I expect the money must be worth it. Of course Faux News would be the racist interviewer in this attempt to save himself. Get ready for the softballs cause we know they will happen.

Horses ass Mr. Ed ran the edited tape over and over one night. Zimmerman would be a fool to go on MSNBC. In fact he should sue them for their biased coverage.

I didn't think this would be discussed publicly at this point. I thought there would be a gag order. Couldn't it be used for an appeal if found guilty? Or used to dismiss a jury? Just curious.

saxon - I agre with you totally.

But the trial by media was started by the left in this country and there probably isn't any way to stop it until it goes to trial in a court of law. The rules of discovery are so assinine in Florida that Zimmerman probably feels he needs to speak and he has every right to do so.

This was started by Martin's parents. Once his parents were interviewed, it took off. And let's not forget that happened a month after the shooting. In which Zimmerman had never been charged and the police never even conducted an investigation. If this had been handled properly from the beginning we probably would have never heard about it.

Such hipocrisy from the left! It is they who have done their best to try and convict Zimmerman, before the trial! It is they and our President who are saying the US Constitution is outdated. Perhaps they would prefer a Stalinesque tribunal to determine guilt!

Just what wasn't being investigated by the PD? Perhaps you should go back and reread what was released in both the 183 and 284 page discovery disclosures so far? The PD did investigate, interview and recommend charges. The local DA looked at that evidence and said they could NOT detain George until they investigated things and determined it was NOT Self Defense. The FL Statute 776 tied everyones hands. The case was referred to the state DA who was in the process of reviewing the case when the Martins made a stink because they didn't understand the law and wanted an EXECUTION yesterday.

IF the Martins and their liar er um lawyer had read the law and the "reverends" had done the same they would have given the legal system a chance to work through it... instead they wanted street justice and the "reverends" saw the opportunity to stir division and bring the spotlight on themselves.

I'm amazed at how this turned into such a political thing and why people have to stick to their party rather than to what they really feel in their hearts. I'm an Independent but I typically lean a bit to the right and I am so NOT on Zimmerman's side on this. I find him to be a repugnant liar and totally at fault for this. I wish he stayed in his car. My husband, meanwhile, I know deep down feels the same way I do but because he's a Republican feels he has to side with this POS. Why is it this way? We can't even talk about this at home anymore. It's ridiculous.

Zimmerman has a motion in for the Judge to recuse himself -- It would not have been granted before the interview and still won't after. No grounds.

When Zimmerman starts crying like a little girl that he won't get a fair trial and wants the venue changed and has his lawyer file a motion -- won't happen either. The little girl will have to cry all the way to Hannity again as by granting this interview, he added to the fact of screwing himself. Looks good on the murderous liar. Would love for his wife to be behind bars too and not just the slap on the wrist bs -- Behind bars getting the 'Bertha' treatment.

trudat, the tests are not admissiable, not because someone can "beat" them, but because they reveal no pertinent information. The "lie detector" does not detect lies, it merely measure changes in bodily functions, and those changes reveal nothing other than the changes themselves. Anything beyond that is pure guess work. The same is true of the "stress test".

This is a money making ploy. Hes going to Fox because he knows hes their hero for off'ing a "thug" which is the new code word for, that word which the rappers say. He is hoping to get more donations and his lawyer is backing it because that's the only way he is going to get paid. Listen, this guy is scared of going to jail and will say anything to escape the fate. He's already lied a few times and, according to the judge, was planning to flee the country by means of his donations. I don't believe that Trayvon Martin was pummeling him like a mixed martial fighter and had no telltale marks on his fists after the beatdown. After such a pummeling, Zimmerman's face should have swelled up like a black & blue balloon. He didn't even go to the emergency room where his "injuries" could be professionally documented.

And my question is why does Zimmerman look so very different from when he was arrested? Suddenly, he's about 5 shades darker and 20 pounds or more lighter. He's gotten rid of his facial hair and grown out the hair on his head. Well, it's the first thing you're taught when you are planning to flee from prosecution...change your appearance.

trust_verify -- your whole comment is total bull.

Just which of my comments are you calling bull? Have you reviewed either the 183 or 284 page discovery documents that state essentially what I did about the investigation?

Zimmerman has a motion in for the Judge to recuse himself -- It would not have been granted before the interview and still won't after. No grounds.

What does the recuse have to do with my comment? The fact is I don't expect the judge to recuse himself, neither does O'money er O'mara.. and should George be convicted will be perfect grounds for an appeal.

My comment rebutted the claim that there was no investigation prior to the Martins bringing in the "reverends". That facts show otherwise. Perhaps you should go read the FL Statute 776. Specifically 776.032(2)

(2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful.

An interview is a bold move for someone with limited credibility. But at least we will be hearing about the tragedy itself, instead of irrelevant sensationalism like he's racist or was a sexual predator at age 8. Good grief! No wonder he went to Fox News. Every one else turned this into a circus.

We have a seemingly unstable man who turned a neighborhood watch into a witch hunt and got some kid killed in a paranoid frenzy. I think it's safe to say he's dangerous, whether he meant for it to go down this way or not. Having some childhood acquaintance say he doesn't like black people that act like black people (whatever that means) and trying to turn this into a racial issue is getting old. It doesn't seem like a hate crime at all, even if he happens to be racist (which is not itself a crime). Good grief, not every altercation involving different races is a hate crime!

"I was standing my ground when I followed the suspicious hoody wearing, obviously up to no good black American teenager, even after I was told by the dispatcher not to do so, because as a Conservative I have the right to not trust anyone who isn't exactly like me and assault them with my gun. I was trying to keep America safe by doing a job for free I obviously wasn't trained to do and I heard he had weapons of mass destruction on him. If Obama only did more to fund our local governments I wouldn't have to exercise my Conservative granted rights to trample on my fellow American's rights!"

OMG Really People: Oh the irony of your name. MSNBC is no doubt a source of biased, irresponsible, and sometimes irrelevant "news", but if you think that FOX truly "reports the facts and lets you decide" then you have A) never watched FOX news or B) do not actually think critically about information you hear, but seek out information which conforms to your own rigid and completely biased views, making you like the majority of Americans.

This case is a catastrophe, as are all other issues that take a national stage, because the thirst for truth is gone, and has been replaced by the constant search for someone presenting the side that supports how we feel, no matter how unfounded that feeling may be.

Zimmerman has done exactly that here, and so has done nothing that Americans are doing everyday as we continue our race to the bottom.

When true thinking actually becomes more valued than the tripe from our soulless pundit and political heroes on both sides of the fence, then maybe we can get somewhere.

Zimmerman's interview with Sean Hannity, no matter how itwas shaped to paint Zimmerman in a more positive light, just raised more questions aobut the suspicious Zimmerman.

How could he sit there and say that he had no regrets when an innocent teenager was killed because of his actions.

THis is why he will never go on the stand. A halfway decent prosecutor will rip him to shreds.

?HOW MANY times are you going to tell your side of the story already? O'Mara must be more worried about getting PAID than defending his client! This is a big mistake - either that or simply a ploy to get MORE people to send money, hence the media outlet choice.

I'm with the above poster (on here somewhere) that states he wishes the judge, ZM, prosecutor, O'Mara, etc, etc, would just shut it and hold the damn trial already.

Enough with the Peruvian mother crap. This guy was raised in the lap of luxury and clearly thinks of himself as part of the entitled class, so his ethnicity is a moot point. He can tell that things are not going according to plan, and now he's feeling desperate, so he's stooped to appealing to the human side of the same people whose humanity he denied when he shot Trayvon - typical. I have no idea how the legal wheels will turn in this case, but it should serve as proof positive that American justice is far from blind, and that she knows which side of the bread has the 69 cent spread on it. And it's not really about race, although a lot of frightened white people woud like to pretend that it is. Open a hunting season on animals and you get to bag your limit, but open it on your fellow man, and eventually, they may start to shoot back. Working class blacks and working class whites have far more in common that do working class whites and the ruling elite, but the white ego prevents many from recognizing this fact, and so they remain puppets. How long do we have to keep reliving this sorry play?

This is a great idea! This may be one of the televised SCRIPTED marketing scheme for the killer. Playing the sympathy "I am the victim." game coupled with the apology "I am sorry" please forgive me game. Then play the "I blame the other party" game even though I instigated it coupled with the winning through intimidation game. After which the marketing ends with a message that says "Trayvon was a THUG" but I treated him like a human being and "Zimmerman does not have a depravity of the mind." And last but not least, "Please donate to Zimmerman's legal defense." because Zimmerman's entire life became a nightmare because of this one hoodie-d THUG who attacked him and Zimmerman was not doing anything bad to him. Zimmerman wants to fill in the blanks on the fabricated story he gave to the police and embellish it more as to why it was the RIGHT thing to kill Trayvon. So the headline interview is about "I killed Trayvon and why it was the right thing to do." And the people will go, Hallelujah, Zimmerman! I believe you!

Trust me. It will. Part of this marketing scheme is that Zimmerman will surprise everyone by THANKING and PRAISING all his donors publicly and wholeheartedly with all the drama of how the donations proved that there are GOOD people out there. "God Bless you, the good people who donated to my legal defense fund. Good things will come to you. You are forever special in my heart." The emotional manipulation game begins there. And the people will go, Zimmerman is a good man. Then Zimmerman will tell examples of stories of why he is/was a good man who cared about people and Black people. Full-blown self-marketing. Then the public will go. I believe this man! I believe that Zimmerman is a good man! Praise Zimmerman!

I am just wondering why you hate the man so much, you don't even know him. And why are you so convinced that it wasn't self-defense? How do you know that he didn't have good intentions, i.e. to look out for his neighbors and keep an eye on the guy he suspected of being up to no good? You are all ready to lynch the guy as if he was the worst man in history, a Ted Bundy type of person, and as if you were witnesses and knew for a fact that he wanted to kill Trayvon Martin (whom by the way you didn't know either).

Whether George Zimmerman is guilty or not of racism and/or intention to kill, you didn't know either of them. Neither of them is/was a saint and neither of them is/was a demon. So why so much emotion about this particular case? there is hundreds of murders every year in the country.

What is it that got to you so much and got you so convinced of Trayvon Martin's innocence? was it the 13 year old pictures with the mugshot? was it the assumed racism? was it because you think a 17 year old can't attack someone? was it the edited phone call?

Get a grip on your emotions, you have been manipulated by the medias, you need to snap out of it, your hate will make you sick.

eggmoon. I don't know if you were talking to me but I will reply anyway. A person who has a concealed weapon permit will often have their weapon on them whenever it is allowed, whether they are going to "Target" or anywhere else. And you see thats one of the communication problems, you are convinced that he was a menace to society and is a bad guy, therefore you probably think that I am a horrible person to defend him, but in fact I am not convinced of that at all, and I don't know how you can be so convinced that he is guilty (either or racism and/or intention to attack/kill someone) while you barely know anything about the man, didn't know Trayvon Martin either, and were not a witness in this case. I tend to believe that he had good intentions, that he was looking out for his neighbors, and was worried because they have had so many burglaries in recent weeks (just as all the other neighbors were). He suspected someone (Trayvon Martin) of being "up to no good" and called the police and asked them to come in case he was right (which was the right thing to do). I don't tend to believe that he attacked Trayvon Martin, as he knew the cops were coming and had no reason to do so to start with (unless he wanted to get caught assaulting someone, he may have been a "wannabe cop" as some say, but he knows the law pretty well), while Trayvon Martin did not know the cops were coming. I am fairly certain, assuming the timeline we have been given is correct, that Trayvon Martin waited for George Zimmerman and confronted him (as he had over one minute, while GZ was on the phone with the dispatcher, to get away from him, but yet he was still around only seconds after the phone call).

However, I am very conscious that we don't actually have much information and that my knowledge of this case (which is based on what I have read in the medias and the sound files I listened to) is not near as complete as it will be to the judge when it goes to court. So I will let him/her decide if he is guilty or not (of something else then self-defense).

And you missed the point of my message (if indeed you were talking to me), why are you so emotionally involved and so convinced while actually barely knowing anything and not being a witness? and while there is hundreds of murders every year in the country, including self-defense and people who have not been arrested nor charged, just as George Zimmerman was not charged to start with. Why do you think you are so focused on hating and condemning George Zimmerman, while you are probably unaware of all the other cases, and even when you learn about them you don't hate the other guys near as much as Zimmerman, if you have an emotional response and/or hate them at all.

Personally I will not deny that I am interested in this case, but I don't hate either of them, and I think they both made mistakes in the past. I also don't think either of them is/was an angel, nor a demon.

just some information on background... The police suggested George obtain a gun due to dog issues and police slow response times to that issue. The area around RTL happens to have at least four gangs that are active per SPD Crime Intelligence Division.

I'm with you.. there is a time and place to carry. I have a CCW as well as the state allows open carry. There are times I do carry because of where I am heading but not most of the time. Apparently George felt the need to carry that night. right or wrong he was legal in all aspects we know of to carry. He was stupid for allowing himself to get in the situation he eventually found himself in. I'm all for guns just not idiots with guns. George qualifies as an idiot. That still doesn't mean he did anything illegal prior to the fight. It is now up to the courts to determine that.

The LIKELY reason for the interview is money for donations and to offset his kissing cousin issue. I just wonder how many takes it took to keep George from looking like a complete lawyer tongue tied moron... George really needs to keep his mouth shut. He did well at his first bail hearing by doing so even if for the wrong reasons.

He was told not to follow Trayvon, but he did. He was made bold knowing he had a gun to
"protect" himself. He might not have counted on Trayvon defending himself, but the fact remains he drew his gun and killed the boy - and his injuries do not match his horror story of being attacked.

FOX gives air time to Sarah Palin, the Gun Mom, and to any other NRA shooter who finds loopholes in laws in order to kill someone different. FOX has even less credibility than the Matt Lauer ego fest on TODAY. Zimmerman will show up there, and Matt will say "Nice to see you, George." then ask some inane questions and wish him well. I quite FOX years ago, just quit TODAY after 35 years of faithful viewing, and will not re-subscribe to TIME after 40 years because each of these media outlets is designed only to make money on discord, fear, and misery of the many while advertising luxury goods to the zillionaires they target.

Why Fox News you ask? Because all the racist liberal news outlets have already found him guilty including all blacks, Al and Jesse, and the rest of the cronies. I wonder why they list his race as peruvian and white?Do it sell better if race is involved? Do you ever see Obama mentioned by " White mother and Kenyan father? I only see him mentioned as our first black president. How is that when he was born from a white womb?

I honestly can't reveal my source, since I am under NDA. However; just google it. Or how about today's headlines?

Did Fox News’ Sean Hannity Agree to Pay George Zimmerman’s Legal Fees?

The person referred to as SH is obviously a person with a lot of money and
clout, leading many to believe that the person being referenced in the recording
is Sean Hannity of Fox News.

GZ references SH (Sean Hannity) offering to pay his legal fees, but he wants him to hire JB (Jose Baez) for his attorney. LOL...

                  Would have been GREAT!

Good questions to ask Zimmerman during the interview.

                    1. So, here you are trying to protect your neighborhood from burglars, out comes this hoodie-d person from the darkness and attacked you out of the blue just as you were going back to your truck, that is so terrible, George. Why would any human being do such a thing?

George: I dunno. That's why I defended myself.

                    2. So, Trayvon actually said the words, "You are going to die tonight." That animal. Why would he say such things to you?

George: I dunno. That's why I defended myself.

                    3. So, Trayvon just started to punch you and repeatedly bashed your head to the ground for no reason at all. You do not know what provoked that. Why would Trayvon do that?

George: I dunno. That's why I defended myself.

                    4. Well, we believe you have a self-defense case here. Trayvon was clearly the attacker. That animal attacked you and wanted to kill you for no reason at all. George, your plea to the Americans will be heard and we all know why Trayvon had to die.

                    <<<Audience clapping. >>>>

Actually Mark, they can, and they did (the medias in general, not only msnbc), very much so. There is hundreds of murders every year, but people are still focused on hating George Zimmerman and don't have a clue about the many other cases of self-defense (and the many people who have not been arrested nor charged), that have happened since. You can show them cases like this 17 year old who killed 2 british tourists for no reason and they still won't hate that guy, or at least not near as much as they hate Zimmerman. Some know about the Daniel Adkins case but they still don't hate the guy who killed him eventho he was not arrested nor charged either. Why the indifference to the other cases? because there was a huge media manipulation in the Zimmerman/Martin case, and many have jumped in without realising the extent of the manipulation, they became very involved emotionally.

They think they hate Zimmerman because he killed an "innocent child", or because he is a racist, or because he is a "wannabe cop", or because he had not been arrested or charged ... but yet don't pay much attention, if any attention at all, to all the other cases where the killer was, with certainty, a racist, or there was actually an innocent child (i.e. a 7 yr old for example) or adult killed, or the killer in a self-defense case was not arrested nor charged, and so on ... They look at these cases for a few minutes, maybe throw in a comment or 2, and move on, but not in the Zimmerman/Martin case. Nope, not in this case, they hate that one guy, and are convinced of his guilt, with a puzzling passion.

OF COURSE he grants his first interview with Faux Knews. They're the only organization who will show him in a favorable light, downplay any facts that point to him being guilty or ask a challenging question that could contradict his story. Whatta joke. If anything, this makes Zimmerman look worse, not better.

Everyone knows, that Faux Knews promotes the extreme right-wing sector of this country (ie the KKK and other anti-black/anti-immigrant/anti-goverment extremist groups) and these are the people who will defend the horrid and CRIMINAL actions Zimmerman perpetrated against young Mr. Martin.

Fox "News" is only #1 because they know how to lie well. They're not a news organization so they don't have to bother with telling the truth or being accurate. They even testified in court they have a right to LIE to their audience. But I guess that doesn't matter when you mistake being popular for being correct.

the people speaking out were not in a court of law

true but they seem to think they are in one...the only "gag" order that should be issued is for these so called Zimmerman "haters".

He's doing this to play to the Fox News and Republican base. They both support the "Stand Your Ground" laws, even though in Zimmerman's case it was not "Stand Your Ground" because he pursued Trayvon even after the police told him they didn't want him to do that. He confronted Trayvon in the dark without identifying himself and an altercation ensued. When Trayvon got the best of Zimmeraman he pulled his gun and shot Trayvon point blank. I don't believe this situation meets the test of "Stand Your Ground".

I think he's simply pointing out the legal defenses both sides will be using.

He will hang himself, his attorney knows he is guilty that's why he is not stopping him from doing Dumb things...all he wants is his money, and he will get plenty from Zimm's supporters, and Zimm is off to Jail.
