Former Penn State University President Graham Spanier is no longer fighting for access to his old university emails dealing with convicted child sex abuser Jerry Sandusky.
Court documents filed Wednesday show Spanier dropped a lawsuit that sought release of the emails, the Associated Press reported.
Spanier originally filed suit in May, wanting access to his university emails from 1998 to 2004 in order to prepare before speaking with investigators from the team led by former FBI Director Louis Freeh, who was hired by the university's board of trustees, according the Centre Daily Times. But Penn State lawyers worried that giving Spanier access would compromise the investigation.
No reason was cited for Spanier's decision to drop lawsuit but the issue now appears moot because Freeh issued his report last week.
Spanier's actions -- or lack thereof -- are out in the open now: He is not charged with any crime, according to the AP, although his leadership was criticized in the Freeh report. The 267-page report found that top university officials, including Spanier, could have prevented the sex abuse by Sandusky from continuing. The report found officials wanted to avoid bad publicity and concealed the allegations of abuse.

The emails revealed in the Freeh investigation are quite damning: One of Spanier's emails to university administrators from 2001 said it would be "humane" to approach Sandusky rather than going to authorities, the Centre Daily Times reported, but he worried they could be vulnerable if they kept quiet.
Sandusky was convicted last month of abusing 10 boys over 15 years. He could face up to 373 years in prison.

How many lives are being ruined by that molester? Granting the fact the cover up is almost as bad as the crime itself, in this case the cover up is just as bad. Those people who covered it up should get at least 1/2 to 2/3 of the jail term the molester got.
It would send a clear message to other people that you don't cover this type of crime up. There is no excuse for it.
And everyone at the University will pay for it....these people will walk away with a slap on the hand. Football will be affected by the NCAA and it is not this current coaches fault or the football team, there will be no raises for the employees till this debacle is paid for, and everyone will be walking around on eggshells. New people will be hired to handle what should have been handled long ago while the few individuals that could not be "Humane" and turn in a serial predator turned what could have made them into heroes...turned the school into Zeros.
It is such a shame that such few men could destroy a university.
But then I guess you have to look at Congress...those few men have a nation on its knees.
Greed is such an evil thing.
Let's hope Spanier, Curley and the third stooge all are charged with crimes and learn that to protect a child molester is to commit a crime. What a bunch of low lifes the Univ had on their payroll.
Spanier was the Chancellor here at the University of Nebraska before leaving for Penn State. So glad he left here!!!! Good riddance CREEP!!!
It seems unlikely that Sandusky just started being a pedophile 20 years ago. Probably 45 or 50 years ago. But the kids from that far back are not talking. It was much more a stigma 50 years ago than it is now.
