Baby Hugo was born at 7:11 a.m. local time on Tuesday.
AURORA, Colo. – He’s the tiny miracle after the tragedy of Aurora.
Hugo Jackson Medley was born at 7:11 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to University of Colorado Hospital spokesman Dan Weaver. Both mother and child are doing well.
His mother, Katie Medley, escaped the Colorado movie theater attack uninjured, but her husband, Caleb, is in the same hospital in a medically-induced coma fighting for his life.
High school sweethearts
High school sweethearts, Katie and Caleb Medley started dating during their senior year in the small town of Florence, Colo., according to their close friend Michael West, who has become their family spokesman.
“You could just tell that out of everyone in the world, these two were meant for each other,” West wrote on a website dedicated to Caleb that he created to raise money to cover his friend’s medical bills. As of Tuesday afternoon, the website has had 2,600 donors who have given about $90,000.

TODAY
Katie Medley, who was nine-months pregnant when she was at the movie theater where the Aurora shooting happened, delivered her son, Hugo, on Tuesday morning. Her husband, Caleb, right, is in critical condition in the hospital from gun shot wounds sustained during the attack.
In eighth grade, Caleb, now 23, decided he wanted to be a standup comedian. So after he and Katie, 21, got married they moved to Denver, where he could chase his dream.
In an Internet video titled “Caleb Saves the Internet: Saving the One Nighter,” he chronicles life on the road as a struggling comic.
He jokes about staying in a seedy motel room with a busted deadbolt and stains on the wall. But Caleb was making progress. Last Wednesday night, he performed stand up at the New Faces Contest at Comedy Works South in Denver, according to the Denver Post. He did well enough to advance to the next round of a comedy festival.
It was to be a big week for the couple. Not only was Caleb getting comedy gigs, but he was about to become a father. Katie, a veterinary student, was nine months pregnant and her doctor planned to induce labor on Monday, July 23.
One last date night
Katie and Caleb decided to treat themselves to one last night out before they needed a babysitter. Even though she was nine months pregnant, they were huge Batman fans and they were not going to miss opening night.
NBC's Kate Snow reports on the shooting suspects court appearance Monday, as well as the status of some of the shooting victims, including Caleb Medley.
"They had Batman apparel on. They waited for this movie for over a year,” said David Sanchez, Katie Medley’s father.
“They were having the normal opening night movie experience,” their friend Michael West wrote, recounting a conversation he had with Katie. “They stood anxiously in line, spent too much on popcorn and soda, suffered through the movie trailers and watched the beginning of the movie. That is when evil struck.”
“I thought it was a prank at first or someone playing along with the movie,” Katie told him, West writes. “Then he opened fire.”
Caleb was shot in the face. He was put in the back of a police cruiser and driven to University of Colorado hospital. The website says he has lost his right eye, suffered brain damage and is in a medically-induced coma.
Katie’s father, Sanchez, was at the Arapahoe County courthouse Monday to see the man he blames for ruining what was supposed to be a joyous time for the family. He said his daughter had asked him to come since she was in no state to attend herself.
“When it’s your own daughter and she escaped death by just mere seconds, I would say, it really makes you angry,” he told a group of reporters outside the courthouse where the shooting suspect James Eagan Holmes made a brief appearance Monday.
Asked about his son-in-law, Caleb, he said, “He's in critical but stable condition, so we're praying for him. I think the main concern is him right now, and the baby being born.”
Like many of the young 20-somethings at the movies that terrible night, the Medleys have no health insurance, according to their friend West.
“Caleb and his family have no insurance, and these hospital bills are going to be well into the hundreds if not thousands if not millions. Caleb and Katie will be struggling with these hospital bills for the rest of their lives,” West wrote on the website.
In two remarkable stories of survival, one woman saves the life of her best friend, and a father protects his son's girlfriend after she was badly wounded. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

Cmon GOP schills. Defend your hatred of the AHCA.
Well put. The right wing are so short sighted. They want to keep the status quo, but don't realize how this or any other medical situation can so easily happen to any of us. If it does, you're at the mercy of the ruthless health insurance companies. Who would want such a system for our society?
Awesome. Way to make a skewed political opinion out of a tragedy.
bullsh*t. just file bankruptcy. it'll wipe those bills out instantly.
it's not a skewed political opinion, it's the victims reality.
They are 23 and about ready to have a baby with no insurance? Most states have insurance options for people with low incomes. In MN you pay what you can afford but some don't want to even do that. I have never not had insurance, not 1 day in my whole life. It is called responsibility.
This year, an estimated 1.5 million Americans will declare bankruptcy. Many people may chalk up that misfortune to overspending or a lavish lifestyle, but a new study suggests that more than 60 percent of people who go bankrupt are actually capsized by medical bills.
Bankruptcies due to medical bills increased by nearly 50 percent in a six-year period, from 46 percent in 2001 to 62 percent in 2007, and most of those who filed for bankruptcy were middle-class, well-educated homeowners, according to a report that will be published in the August issue of The American Journal of Medicine.
1) Who do you think STILL gets the bill??? That's right the middle class when those costs are passed on.
2) Why do you think 7 years of no credit, perhaps no job or even an apartment is a good thing??
3) Most importantly why do you think bankruptcy is preferable to the AHCA??
I know MA. does, ironically enough it's called Romneycare.
Watt75 you are correct, what adult would chase after a dream when a baby is coming into the world. I was a first time father and I did what had to be done to take care of a family. We all have dreams, but when the children start coming they change to responsibilities.
Pretty sure most states help out with medical bills when you're the victim of a violent crime.....
Cool story, bro. But I need you explain why this baby is a "miracle".
Most of these comments are ignorant and ridicules...
I am absolutely against Obamacare.
I'm also against medical coverage for those on welfare who are on the dole simply because they're irresponsible. I don't know the circumstances but this appears that it may have been a pregnancy covered by the system.
On the other hand...the husband's injuries were not caused by anything that he did or didn't do. I certainly hope he is covered by the state as being a victim of violent crime.
William of Rites--sorry, but this young couple CHOSE to get pregnant when they did not have insurance.
Their lack of responsibility is NOT the problem of anyone but themselves.
It is one thing to not have insurance, and get shot up in a case like this. I'd have been happy to contribute to HIS care.
Not so much when I find out they had enough money to pay the extra for midnight showing tickets, popcorn and soda etc. , and a baby on the way, and had not insurance.
This is why we needed Obamacare!
Obama 2012
I was just laid off at 8 months pregnant. I have always had insurance until now. I am a responsible citizen, but you tell me how to pay the $800 a month COBRA coverage when you don't have any income? Right now I am trying to figure out how to pay for these medical bills and also the normal living expenses of house, car, food, etc. People find themselves in situations not in their control. FYI I don't qualify for state assistance because I was responsible...I have too much retirement investments to qualify. Additionally, before you tell me to cash in my retirement...I can't afford to pay the penalties and taxes on taking out my retirement early.
They had no way of paying for this baby whether or not he got shot. They have no right having a baby they couldn't afford. Make the moron who shot him pay for the hospital bill.
I feel bad that he's in this condition through no fault of his own but this is why we are supposed to have insurance. If we knew when we'd need it, we'd only buy it then. This is nonsense that the city, state or even federal governments should have to pay for this.
And yet they found money to go out to the movies. I haven't been to the movies in years but I have medical insurance.
There's no 'miracle' here, just another baby that someone else needs to pay for.
They have no health insurance, yet they are having a baby. If they can't afford health insurance, how are they going to afford to raise a baby? Or are they counting on the government to not only pay for them to have this baby, but to sign up for government programs in order to afford to raise this baby?
The heartless-self righteous comments so far just go to show this country needs to split as soon as possible and let all you bootstrappies commence to self-sustaining.
It's a damn shame that INSENSITIVE TROLLS have to make every article they read and comment they make about politics! Show some COMPASSION people! Go find an article that actually pertains to politics.
Send those bills to the NRA: 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. And you can call Executive VP Wayne LaPierre at: 800-672-3888 who I am sure will be glad to take care of them, they seem to have so much money to buy Congress.
Velma: MOmaid is a troll, looking to get you excited. Ignore the troll.
William - Way to take a story about tragedy and survival and turn it into a political statement. I pity the warped mind that must take murder and turn it into their political advantage. Even Pres. Obama and Gov Romney back of the political.
Your mother must be so proud. I figue Rosie would love your tactics.
To you simple idiots saying that the medical bills should be covered by the state because the guy was a victim of violent crime and was injured through no fault of his own: What if he'd simply gotten brain cancer? Screw him then, I guess, because that's just regular disease. But if he gets shot as part of a national tragedy, well, then he should be covered. What kind of sense do you think you're making?
The comment at the top of this page is valid. These people have no insurance. What do you think their plan was for paying the pregnancy and birthing bills? This just go to show that people CAN and WILL get medical treatment no matter whether they have insurance coverage or not. What you call "Obamacare" is our nation's way of making them pay for it through insurance premiums.
You Obama haters would rather give them free hospital care and somehow call it a conservative principle because it preserves their freedom from having to buy something. Your position makes no sense, and it's one reason we're broke. As long as a government dollar is wasted somewhere (which will always be the case until the end of time) you think that you should be free from having to pay any taxes. Huh?
Dolphinfree, A $10 movie they have waited a year to see, verses a monthy health insurance bill of $1200. It is wonderful you can pay $1200 for private health insurance. You probably own a business and have tons of money coming out your wazzoo. Do you provide heath insurance to your employees? Because that is the ONLY way millions of Americans can afford health insurance is if our company pays for it out of our compensation package. Even now, Republicans like yourself are fighting that. May people believe your health insurance is a gift at the company you work for (even though most of us pay for it. too), many people forget that is part of compensation package for working for the company. Republicans are trying to say that state/federal workers don't even deserve their health care.
You do realized large companies like Staples and Walmart don't offer health insurance to employees who work less than 40 hours a week? Do you know how many hours a week the schedule their employees? 39 so the billion dollar corporations don't have to offer health insurance to their employees? Do you know most small businesses don't offer health care?
These kids may be hardest working young people in this country but they may work at Walmart, Staples, Godfathers Pizza, and NOT have health insurance. They may work two jobs and not be able to afford private health insurance because these same companies pay minimum wages.
Freedom to choose your dream whatever your talents are should never be a precursor to bankruptcy. In cases such as these, Some Hospitals have charity care available since some Hospitals are still run and managed by communities (including charitible gifts made by churches, catholic charity organizations et.al.) since Nurses used to run and manage hospitals with little or no funding at all. Those of you who fail to see that Medicine and Nursing is not about placing a price on a human life have your priorities stuck in partisan political gamesmanship in hyperdrive. What is the going cost analysis for the value and worth of a Human Life and the potential for that life? Is that what we have become in this Country? The Corporations that used to train and hire skilled employees barely exist. What is the common person supposed to do in your perfect world? What if it were you lying there in critical condition...no insurance company in the United States of America has ever paid 100% of the cost to care for and maintain such a critically ill HumanBeing for $25,000 to $30,000 per day. What perfect world do you exist in?
I don't think that the large medical bill that they are talking about is for the baby. When my first son was born, we had no insurance. I just made monthly payments to the doctor and to the hospital all throughout my pregnancy. Not having insurance is not a crime. No one expected this guy to get shot in a movie! Even if he had insurance, he would probably meet the maximum or have more deductible than he can pay. I have insurance through my employer and if I had to be in the hospital, I would have difficulty paying the whole deductible. So, people this is not about Obamacare, Romneycare, or whether or not they are doing the right thing by having a child with no insurance. These people just suffered a terrible tragedy and now through no fault of their own, they will have to suffer with his injuries, their memories of this event, and his medical bills for a lifetime. Get a grip and have some compassion for this family and all of the families suffering through this!
I'm not sure why she doesn't have insurance as she is a student. Federal law requires that schools offer health care plans to their students, and it is part of their financial aid package. In our school, the basic plan is about $1800/year. Because our students are going into medicine (and they need to be healthy), we require all student to take it OR provide proof of insurance through their parents/spouse/significant other. Other schools simply make it available and some students opt not to take it.
Stuart- some might think short sighted could be defined by thinking the money will fly out of someones butt to pay for those who choose to be supported by the rest of us their entire lives.
Shanna1234
Thank you....you are absolutely right about this subject (article) not being about party politics or Obamacare or Romneycare, or who's got insurance and who does not. This article is about a sensless tragedy and just one of the victims who lived. If you want to call being in an induced coma, monitoring brain swelling, loss of part of your face and eye, with most probably long term brain damage living. This victim's suffering shows the awful reach of the tragedy. His wife, his dear sweetheart who 9 months pregnant survives the attack and brings their baby into this world while his father fights for his life. Yes...he had no health insurance, but that is just an unfortunate fact in our country. Most young people can't afford health insurance. They are building lives, education, careers, living off every dine they make in this economy and don't think about getting sick or that anything this bad could happen. For all we know, these young peoople saved a few bucks for weeks to put on the side to have their "last date night" before baby. They should not be criticized in comments, rather shown just a bit of human compassion, because that is what they need most right now. And not just this young family....how many others does anyone think were victims that night who sustained injuries and obtained medical care who had no insurance. There are probably more victims without insurance than those who had some form of coverage in that age group of victims. I for one, think this story is both tragically sad as well as inspiring for hope...hope for the future of this little baby born under the most terrible f circumstances and hope for this brave woman to face the unknown everyday and hope that one day, this baby will be held in the arms of his father to know his love as well.

Kirstyloo2 -
There is NO federal law requiring a college or university or trade school to offer health insurance plans. Although most do offersome low cost insurance plans or clinics, but they are for the student only and does not include family members and are primarily for free preventative care.
I agree with the original poster. And for the person who thinks we can all get insurance via our state is wrong or disillusion, prob listens to Faux Noise (they make every thing seem like a nightmare) I am a widow with 3 children and CANNOT get insurance FOR ME OR THEM. OH, they have HIGH POOL ins, sure for 800 a month....RIGHT.....give me a break. I can't afford that. SO, all you AHCA haters, wait until you have to have brain surgery and lose EVERYTHING YOU OWN because you are DENIED ins from co's that you CAN PAY FOR.....you are all so selfish that it's disgusting.
And, one more thing....for the guy who said to "just file bankruptcy" YOU ARE PART OF THE D PROBLEM...what a foolish thing to say. Just like Romney, PART OF THE PROBLEM, not a solution
shanna1234 - you said "not having insurance is NOT a crime".
Correction: It IS under this potus. Just wait until next year.
Great society we've created when having a child is now predicated (at least in the minds of "compassionate" conservatives) on the ability to afford exorbitantly expensive health insurance.
What I see here is an average couple who stayed together, and who are at the optimal biological age to have thier first child. Biology doesn't wait for economic justice.
Well, thats one form of birth control for those squalid, unwashed, masses! "Are there no prisons? are there no workhouses?" Its not just quaint Christmas storytelling anymore, folks - Theres a whole bunch of unpleasant people in this country who seem just fine with the thought of recreating a Dickensian England right here and now. Huddled masses in the streets, lice-ridden, eating rotten food, dying of typhus and cholera? Thats what these people want. Because in their way of thinking, whatever miseries you suffer is clearly God's will and you deserve it. Nevermind that THEY shipped millions of jobs overseas, that THEY have been steadily degrading wages for decades, that THEY have siphoned the mass of the wealth of this nation up to a diminishingly small minority of avaricious men; by means of usury, deception, exploitation and deceit.
Theres gonna be more than enough corpsewood to keep the fires blazing for a nice long while in the 4th level of hell - if you believe in that sort of thing...
It is a terrible tragedy but i have to agree it is to bad they will have some bills to worry about for a very long time. Even tho the mother has no insurance she may be getting care via a mid-wife and be having the baby at home. Many mothers have done so. And as one good woman said, if they are working at Wal-Mart they are screwed anyway. All of the money either goes to the top of that food chain, or China. (and to think people gripe about our deficit with China when WalMart was the biggist pusher for cheap imports in Congress!Wal-Mart was never good for workers or any comunity. Their workers need aid from the state to get by or else they need 2 full-time jobs) As to politicizing the tragedy, that poor man is in the hospital without insurance. If you donate, fine, but after that we tax-payers will pay as usual. You want to stay focused only on the tragedy?- then we need universal health care so that property losses, credit ratings and foreclosures caused by such bills are not brought into the victim's life and maybe (God forbid) one day your own......
Melinda,
Check with your Department of Labor. There may be some dislocated worker benefits that you may qualify for. Each state is different so I can't be sure in your case but my office has paid Cobra in the short term for many clients.
How many of you still have you kid's. That are 18 to 26 on your Insurance plans. And how much dose it pay ,for what.
It seems that I have missed the information regarding this couple's financial situation, prior to the shooting, that others here are somehow privy to.
Would someone be so kind as to post a link to the additional sources that revealed this information?
This particular article mentions that the husband is an aspiring stand up comic and that the wife is a student... but it doesn't say whether either of them worked "day jobs".
Also, as the wife of a musician, I understand that gigging/sessions work can actually BE a performers "day job" or at least a secondary source of income - why should someone give up their "hobby" if it's helping to pay the bills? This article doesn't say whether he was ever paid for his comedic talents... only that he'd made a video and was entered into some sort of comedy contest.
The costs associated with having a baby are, by no means, minimal. However, the costs associated with the level of care the husband is needing are astronimical by comparison. Perhaps this couple had enough funds (or help from family?) to cover the birth related costs, but not these new medical needs? This article simply does not say.
Lastly, some commenters have mentioned that this woman CHOSE to get pregnant with this baby... I guess I need a link to the information about that, as well. This particular article doesn't say whether this pregnancy was planned or if it was a surprise.
Until I have the information that some of you here seem to have, I can not judge these people...

$20,000 against astronomical bills.
Mother and child would have been covered by medicaid. That's what happened when I was living in Denver and my roommate got pregnant. She worked as a nanny under the table and showed no income. She paid nothing for the prenatal care or her delivery. As a student, she is likely in a similar eligibility income-wise. I'm sure that the medical bills they are talking about are his, as fathers generally are not covered.
While I am not at all in favor of him being stuck with the bill here, I fail to see how AHA would have made it any better for them. It would require that this young family spend upwards of $300 a month on a basic health plan. That might have been the tipping point to have put them into bankruptcy much earlier. If you're suggesting that the AHA might have made it impossible for them to afford the $40 or so for a movie date night, thus saving him from being shot then I guess technically you have a point...
Chances are, given the high profile nature of the crime, that they will have their bills covered by some benefactor. In 3 days time they have already raised $90K. It wouldn't surprise me if WB (in an attempt to save the movie) doesn't dedicate a portion of ticket sales to a fund to help pay the medical expenses of the victims. The stars of the movie could also make donations to various finds. The city of Denver will rally I'm sure to help. They'll be okay financially. That is not the tragedy here.
Maybe I'm missing a key bullet of the AHA plan. I keep reading comments about how Healthcare shouldn't be dependent on a person's ability to afford a health insurance plan.
But AHA isn't a single payer system.
It requires you to buy a health insurance plan.
It does not require that everyone get a raise to cover that premium.
There are subsidies to make it more affordable, but who determines what is affordable? The family or the government? Depending on where you live that number could vary widely. $50K a year in Jersey makes you poor. $50K a year in Colorado makes you working class. $50K in Alabama makes you middle class. SO if the government says you have to make $25K or less for a family of 4 to get subsidies, how does that help the struggling family in Jersey or Colorado making $40K who now has to figure out how to come up with an additional 3-4 thousand a year in private health insurance premiums?
This is NOT a time to make comments about political antics! I just heard on the news tonight and by more than 1 story that the filming production company or whatever they are called, of the Batman movie have give some multi millions of dollars to help the families and victims of this heinous crime to pay for medical expenses. Unfortunately any and all of this has happened and that is not something they should be concerned about right now is the finances, what is most important is getting him all the medical attention and help he can be given to have a fighting chance in life.
God bless this family, their new baby, and all the victims of this crime. Please people can we keep the comments specific to the topic at hand and QUIT all the political bickering? It isn't politics as usual it is a tragedy and it wasn't caused by Romney, Obama, Bush or ANYONE political it was a heinous crime committed by a selfish creep who had no concern for a human life and used his own horrible reasons to destroy others lives and minds for who knows what reason. So can we PLEASE stop with Red or Blue and be RED WHITE and BLUE for the UNITED STATES of AMERICA because right now especially that is what we ALL need to be!

People will give over 700k to an old lady who was bullied by a couple runts on a bus, but show little compassion for something like this. It's a very interesting world we live in.
These kids need the so called benefits of Obamacare now, so where are the benefits? Are these kids suppose to wait until 2024 to get the benefits? You bet they are, as will most Americans.
Obamacare the disgrace of America..
blueingoregon I don't own my own company, but I've always made sure that either my husband or myself has had insurance where we worked. It's a responsibility we've taken seriously our whole lives together. And yes, it costs a lot of money but its cheaper than hospital bills. A lot cheaper.
It's also why we haven't been to the movies, we own an old car and scrimp on everything. We live within our means. It's the responsible thing to do.
meh...they made their choices. They CHOSE the career paths they were on...just like they chose to not have health insurance. The only difference the ACA makes is now they won't be able to choose not to have health insurance. And who knows if the coverages mandated by the ACA would even cover the catastrophic costs here...they are not "cadillac" plans.
Young couple...no reliable income and chose to have a baby. They were being irresponsible to begin with...now that something "bad" has happened, you think that we need the ACA would be the answer?
Maybe if they were more "conservative", they would have been more responsible with their finances and life management decisions....
It's a surprise that having sex can get someone pregnant...?
News is based upon facts and evidence. Is there EVIDENCE that it's a "miracle," or is this yet another instance of media "faith-based" pandering to the religioilliterate?
What a disgrace, this was a tragedy!!!!! I am ashamed to even read the ignorant comments many of you have made. You cannot judge anyone unless you are in their shoes. It is a miracle that the mother made it out alive and the baby was born, that is the miracle here. Compassion is what everyone should have and not insinuate that they were being irresponsible, who gives a @!$%#. What I care about is that the father makes it through this and everyone else that has been affected.
It's so sad for this baby to have his father lying in a comma at the hospital. Not only that, but the couple is uninsured, and the bills are just going to keep on coming. It does not take very much to throw people over the hill in this country. These people now only have the generosity of the people to help them out. They represent the middle class in this country, without insurance and on the brink of disaster when they get a medical emergency.
At least the movie producers have promised to help some of the families. I hope that the shooter does not play the "insanity" card. He clearly wants us to think that he is insane. The only insane thing is the ambition of the NRA, that continues selling these type of guns in sports stores.
Wow, it must be easy to look down on other people while riding on your high horse. Hope none of you fall on hard times.
Mozzie....The NRA, are you kidding me? So you're one of those? So explain to me how that gun killed or harmed any of those people, please explain! Oh wait, I will do it....it was in a person's hand!!! Guns don't kill people, people kill people!!!!You're an idiot!!!
It doesn't surprise me that someone would try to blame it on the gun. I knew that was coming people need to get off there high horses and realize it is not the guns fault it takes a person to shoot the gun. If people weren't so set on getting rid of guns someone in that theater may have had protection to shoot back. The top ten cities with the most shootings are the cities that you are not aloud to have guns in. As far as medical goes it is very expensive and if someone has a pre-existing medical condition you can not get affordable medical, I know this because my husband and I are going through it right now. Obama sucks it is not fair that they force people to get medical when they can't afford it we make around 45-50,000 a year and do not qualify for low income medical. This article is not about guns, politics, or medical it is about the fact that this tragedy happened what if it happened to you would you people like to have someone putting you down because you don't have medical. Prayers to the family and families that this happened to.
Cheryl and InPenn - Well stated. I'm not sure who said it first, but it makes sense: Blaming a gun for this tragedy would be like blaming the fork for making Rosie fat.
Caleb was the victim of a senseless crime and was not at fault for incurring these medical bills. That being said, the taxpayers are also not at fault for incurring these medical bills. The shooter is at fault - him and him alone. And why are they having a baby if they can't afford medical insurance? Did they get pregnant just assuming that the taxpayers will pay those medical bills, as well as funding them to raise this baby?
@ Irespond:
The guy used a rifle, pistol and a shotgun. The NRA doesn't sell "these types" of guns, the people who own stores sell them as they are free to do in our 2d amnd protected free society. Exactly which of "these types" of inanimate objects are you so opposed to???
Well, I will explain it to you, and I will put it as simplistically as I can due to your apparent limited ability to comprehend big words: The shooter didn't going around hitting all those dead people with his fist, now, did he? Guns DO kill people. That's specifically what they are designed to do; and I might say they do a wonderful job of it, based on the fact that 35,000 - THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND! - people are killed by gunshot wounds in this country every year.
By "one of those", if you mean "someone who has a ton of common sense, and knows that the NRA has Congress in its pocket because of their monumentally strong lobby; which has maliciously interpreted the second amendment to the Constitution to suit their own special interests", then Yes I am "one of those", and proud of it, my dear.
And ya'll have a good day!
What about bombs, Mozzie? Should we ban fertilizer too? And what about the liquid that was in the bombs in this lunatic's apartment? Should be ban those liquids too? And obesity is a problem in the United States - you see articles about it every day. Should we ban forks?
Should we ban pencils too cause someone miss spells, or maybe we should ban knives cause someone got stabbed to death. It takes are person to kill a person regardless of what they use someone could be killed by a baseball bat we should get rid of those too.
You're not going to rope me into a useless discussion with you; it wouldn't be fair, you'd just get mad because your argument makes no sense, and it would ruin your whole day - and I want you to have a Nice day!
Oh, Also that gun didn't lay on the floor and fire itself so therefore; it was the person pulling the trigger that killed people, I own lots of guns and they didn't kill people.
I guess you're just not trying hard enough.
This guy was smart and motivated to kill. If he had a hard time obtaining a weapon, who's to say he wouldn't have strapped himself with a bomb similar to what he rigged his apartment with and taken a seat in the middle of the theater to blow himself up? Or he could have barracaded the doors and doused the audience in gas and set them on fire. Or he could have created a more poisonous gas, mustard gas for example isn't hard to make, and released that into the theater.
My point is that he could have killed and hurt these people with or without a gun. He chose the guns because it was the easiest option, not because it was the only one.
Thats exactly my point mozzie I have to try and kill people, not the gun.
Wow, some of you people are just full of hate and condemnation!
I doubt that the money they spent on a night out at the movies would have made much of a dent in their being able to afford insurance.
While I don't agree with the media's hyper view of "miracles", I do find compassion for this young family.
And, all of you people who are standing ground that this person could have done a bad deed with other destructive and deadly methods are just barking up a wall. Guns are extremely effective, extremely available, cheap, and he had a lot of them. You can kill from a distance, and not have to blow yourself up. You dont' even have to look at the person you are killing.
There are many ways that one person can cause death and havoc to many. I am surprised that terrorism does not happen more often. There are so very many times and places that we are totally vulnerable and unsuspecting, and it would be fairly easy to do something horrible to a large number of us. Banning the sale and use of assault weapons would be a good start. Blazing into a crowd with guns afire is way too easy to do.
I feel for Holmes parents, too. The pain of seeing their son's picture blazed across the media with him wearing that crazy hair and that crazy look is unfathomable. This is her little baby that she, no doubt, loved and cooed over. You cannot control all that your child will become. No matter how much love, time and effort you put in to your child to mould them into a person, you cannot control for the individual that he is. I can hardly imagine the feeling that her child did THIS?
All the news coming out of Aurora is sad and tragic. I hope Caleb pulls through and improves, but how (and this is directed reporter Kate Snow or news editor/headline writers ) is the baby a miracle baby? I know folks are looking for good news, but this doesn't qualify as a miracle.
Thank you, you read my mind while I was leaving a similar comment.
Gee I don't know - I thought every baby was a miracle - especially one that can withstand a night of rapid gunfire from automatic weapons.
Anyone that got out of that place alive that night is a miracle.
But I do think the unborn child whose mom got shot in the stomach and neck (Ashley Moser) does get a higher miracle number than this one.
It's a miracle because she was in a crowded movie theatre filled with tear gas and a hail of 7.62x39mm rounds flying in every direction. The person sitting right next to her sustained a headshot with one of these rounds and yet she escaped. The miracle here is that she was 9 months pregnant and able to escape the carnage. The miracle here is that a poster such as yourself is allowed to contaminate the gene pool if you ever procreate. Everyone that agrees with you obiviously has not been exposed to 40 or 50 rounds whizzing by while trying to breath toxic air. My guess is that they are unfit with large guts and and so full of BS that they would have exploded if they were hit. I say strap a bowling ball to your stomach, put you in a room filled with tear gas, chairs and bodies, take a 40 round clip and see how your fare.
Dr. Roco and other detractors
I don't think you understand what a miracle is, so here is #1 as defined by most dictionaries:
#1 - act of God: an event that appears to be contrary to the laws of nature and is regarded as an act of God. an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.
What laws of a nature were violated or can't be used to explain the events? Bullets were fired by the shooter at particular velocities, during various points in time and along particular trajectories. Those trajectories did not intersect with the mother or the unborn child she was carrying. However the same can not be said for the father or other victims.
There is no need to insert the divine into the equation to understand why or why not individuals were killed or injured in this tragic crime perpetrated by the gunman. Doing so begs the question why some were spared and others were not. And if that was the case, the failure or choice of the omnipotent or divine entity to do should be called into question.
It was a tragic event. The attempts by the reporter and/or news editors to call this a miracle are flat out wrong.
The shooter had an AK-47? Missed that part. Thanks, Internet Tough Guy, for filling me in. Press pause on Full Metal Jacket, take a deep breath, and re-evaluate your life.
@Dr Roco:
i definitely want a Glock 40 that's been converted to shoot 7.62x39!
Show me where to find one please....
My bad. 5.56x45mm rounds. Got carried away with post
@direct1......you wanted a miracle.
@dr roco
touche...
act of God: an event that appears to be contrary to the laws of nature and is regarded as an act of God
If you are going to be so specific about defining a "miracle", then we need to say that this woman escaped because of the laws of physics. She was not exactly positioned where the bullets hit, in relation to the shooter.
The only bad thing about calling somebody that survives a tragedy a "miracle", is that it seems that God was unfair in giving some people a miracel and not to others. What kind of God is that?
Niether is an AK-47 7.62mm. 7.62 is M-60 machine gun, M-14, etc.... (.30 cal)...unless ammo has changed in the last 20 years.
Had to run all the way out to my garage and check my machine gun ammo to verify. Almost forgot I was storing it inside My Abrams tank.
I wish this mother and her baby all the best along with my thoughts and prayers for her husband's recovery.
The mother, thankfully, escaped uninjured. How is this a "Miracle Baby"? Hello, it's the poor FATHER that's in critical condition.
I think the idea is that it's a miracle that the mom was not shot when her husband (who presumably was right next to her) was, and that the baby was born healthy and whole in the midst of such tragedy. On the one hand, it's a typical headline: catch readers, right? On the other hand, if it was my daughter and my grandson, I'd consider it a miracle that they escaped unscathed.
Best wishes to the husband for a full recovery!
I agree with "Weallhaveopinions!"
It's amazing to me how two young, healthy people find the time and money to see a Batman movie premier, buy popcorn, sodas, and etc. at midnight but can't find the money to get medical coverage! And then to bring an innocent baby into such an irresponsible lifestyle! Who was going to pay for the birth of that baby? Apparently, those with health insurance through increased premiums and those who pay taxes for social programs supporting those who can go to the movies but not provide for their own welfare.
There are many jobs available and maybe it would take two jobs to support a couple and a baby rather than chase a dream and go to the movies!!! Sometimes we have to put our dreams aside for reality of life.
May God protect that baby from the irresponsible acts of his parents and society!
Shocked123..
Am I to understand that only the wealthy have to right to try to achieve their dreams... If you are poor, you just take what you can and leave the dream jobs to the wealthy. In terms of the baby, she probably went through the clinic. These are low cost clinics who take care of those without insurance. This couple is obviously caught in the cycle of trying to earn a living, go to school and try to achieve their dream. The many jobs available haven't made their way to the thousands who are still unemployed. You must only watch Fox News. A poll has shown that those who only watch Fox News know very little about what is going on in the news.
Again, if you have money problems, you should not do anything for enjoyment. There is a big difference in paying for a movie and popcorn and paying for health insurance. To say again that there is no reason for them to chase their dreams. Think about the many who are in entertainment, sports, etc. who started from nothing and chose to chase their dreams. This young man was on his way to achieving his dream, should he and his wife never do anything for pleasure. You are the irresponsible person here, not this couple!!!!
Out of all the distress pain and misfortune that has hit all these family. The only thing anyone can think of is how are they going to pay for medical bills if they have no health insurance? You MoFo's have black hearts and may god help you in your weakest moment in life.
Velma Adams
if you have no money, then yes, your avenues for entertainment are by circumstance limited.
if you have no money you especially should not be having a baby. not until you gain footing to be able to ensure your ability to take care of that baby.
then worry about entertainment.
i hope it all works out for them.
I guess all you people who are upset that they are having a baby without insurance think they should have aborted it. What no? You know sometimes birth control fails. Get off your high horse and say a prayer for this family. This man suffered brain damage and lost an eye!!! You are pathetic.
All those who get their panties all in a wad saying they should not be having a baby if they couldn't afford insurance. Has it occured to you that the pregnancy was unplanned..an accident? So what were they to do? get an abortion? Would that make you happy?
As many others point out, there is a big difference between a movie ticket and the price of insurance. They sound like two young people who were working toward a future with her in school and he building a career when this horrible thing happened to them. It's possible their lives will never be the same. Have some compassion and quit judging what you apparently don't understand. Oh yes, send a few bucks. It will be good for your soul.
I am not sure that people realize that MANY people are having babies without insurance. Medicaid pays for anybody that can prove that they can't afford to pay for a delivery. There are many illegal aliens that are doing this on a daily basis. That is why the Health Care of President Obama is good, because it will take care of those issues.
However, under the present conditions, what is wrong if 2 American citizens are having a baby with the help of Medicaid?
Shocked123....A movie night is much less expensive than medical insurance so that's probably how and Medicaid is how they're probably affording the birth of the baby....not that I totally agree or disagree with any of it, that's just how it could work! I know my ex husband lost his job when I was half way through my 2nd pregnancy and we couldn't afford the COBRA so yes, the state helped us through. It was actually better care than I had gotten with my 1st pregnancy. I didn't like the situation but was happy it was an option that was there for us.
"Miracle"?
This word has been so overused it simply doesn't hold weight these days.
All affected have a tragic story to tell. No matter what your age, or point in life, or job, or race, or sex and so-on - it is just all around horrible. As tragic as it is for this man to have bills to pay, there are other people being shot in other places (like Chicago...the gangsters are shooting innocent people; not just their gangsta' kind) and they have bills to pay as well. Not to be heartless, but where is their help?
This whole thing is terrible. I wish Caleb and the other victims the best.
And Dexter, can you get on this Joker guy? We need you.
Thoughts and hearts are with you Caleb! Pull through and be OK! I know it says brain damage, but I hope with all my heart that you beat this!
Pull outta there Caleb. Hugo needs his daddy...I'm hope all is well.
I hope they kill that clown the day he walks in prison.
I have a feeling he'll be like Jeffrey Dahmer. He won't last long.
He'll be put in isolation for his entire prison sentence...no one will ever get a chance at him. That is IF he doesn't get put in a psych facility which it looks like by his act in the arraignment hearing is what he is going for.
I know the WB donated some money. But they really should pay for all of the victims medical bills. They where there opening night. Giving there money to see the movie. You don't go to a midnight show just because. It's because you are a passionate Fan. They are the reason these companies make millions and millions. This movie is going to make more money then the cost of these medical bills could ever add up too. I don't know it would seem like a real class act type of thing to do.
*ehaislar** don't be stupid.....why should WB pay for this, it is not their fault, donations yes, but to foot the whole bill, no. That is like blaming the builder of a home that is demolished by a tornado or earthquake to pay for all the peoples homes because of it.
Puh-leez. The Batman franchise is huge and entertains millions and millions of people. It makes no more sense to bill Warner Bros for medical care of the injured than to bill DC Comics, which popularized the fictional hero for decades before WB made a Batman movie. Get a grip. It is a tragedy perpetrated by a madman. Next, someone will suggest it was the fault of the actors....
I add my good wishes for recovery of all those injured in this sad event.
Medicaid will cover the bills. The mom and baby are already on it.
Not sure but I dont think it will cover the fathers medical bills. I thought it was only for mother and baby to cover the birth of the baby and then any medical bills after for the baby only (checkups etc.)
Why is it so hard for NBC to refrain from using the killer's name? Have respect for the victims by helping to remember THEM not the idiot who took away innocent lives!
PLEASE stop showing the photo of the MURDERER. He wanted fame and you're handing it to him on a silver platter. Unless absolutely necessary, STOP SHOWING HIS FACE! And use his name as minimally as necessary to report the news.
Congratulations to the new mother. I am sorry the murderer robbed daddy of being present at the baby's birth. I hope for dad's full recovery.
"Miracle" baby? She was pregnant. She was supposed to give birth. Is it a miracle because her poor husband was shot? Poorly written article.
Some think it's a miracle that the baby survived this horrible attack.
Frankly i don't think any of these victims should have to worry about their medical bills. Let the big fat suits that own the huge conglomerate that owns the theater (and failed to protect their patrons) pick up the bill.
Maria elena lamas--sorry, but the theater HAD extra security. And the 'huge conglomerate' that owns the theater is probably a FAMILY, who all work there, and make a 'decent living'.
I guess you'd be ok if this had happened during MASS, with sticking the church with the bills, right?
The 'fat suits' don't owe you ANYTHING. WB has already made contributions. But they TOO have taken massive financial losses because of this tragedy.
Like it or not, you don't get to sock it to someone else every time your life goes out of control.
momaid - that's what liberals do - every time something goes wrong or somebody makes a stupid decision, they look for somebody else to pay for it.
Oh, it's the movie theater's fault? Get a grip! The ONLY one to blame is the shooter!
Contributions should take care of all the medical bills. All of us should contribute something - even only $5 or $10 - large numbers of people will amass a lot of money.
Put your money where your mouth is! The theater didn't do this! You people who are always looking to blame someone or something other than the one who did this make me sick! Always thinking "someone" should pay, even if they had nothing to do with it!
No taxed - It isn't the "liberals". It is irresponsible people who want someone else to blame.
Will you idiots EVER stop with your stupid political crap on every single post that has nothing to do with politics? Will you EVER stop dividing this country? This has nothing to do with liberal, conservative, or moderates. This has to do with human beings! Can you just be an human being - just one time?
AllPeopleRights, I truly wish that we could leave the politics out of this, but sadly some live for making derogatory remarks, as a matter of fact they would probably fall out and have a fit if they couldn't. People like taxed an Momaid (who is a troll btw) get off on being as nasty and mean as they can be.
Although I do NOT agree with the poster that was advocating for the theatre owners to foot the bill ( where do they do that?) I certainly have no idea what their politic affiliation would be. But I guess those two know because at least one of them jumped out with a STUPID post and the other did nothing to correct his assumptions. If you cannot send good words and thoughts to all of the people affected by this tragedy, then go to you corner and ....... STFU!!!!!
I don't see the laws of physics held back - where's the miracle? While I do feel badly about the tragedy, I am only speaking to ridiculous pandering to supernatural beliefs here. Does it make sense to anyone why the bad that was done is attributed to man's so-called 'free will' while any good that is ever done is attributed to man's so-called 'God'? Come on, believers, why don't you ever attribute the good people do to their 'free will'? Doesn't that alone make you stop and wonder if maybe, just maybe, you're making things up to fit what you like to feel about things? The point is, sad tragedy aside, that there are no miracles, no gods. I'm glad the baby is fine. I hope the doctors are doing what they can for the husband, because if he recovers easily it will be because of them, not some so-called 'miracle'.
And I say there is a god and miracles. And if he pulls through it will be by the hands of mortal doctors that were guided by god. See I can type my beliefs the same as you.
So if God is so wonderful with miracles why didn't he guide the hand of the crazy guy that did this? Why did God allow people to die, especially the little 6 yr old? Give me a break.
That makes your god a bit of a prick though, doesn't it? If he can save this guy, why wouldn't he have saved all the others? A little too chancy for me....
The sad truth here is that we watch this over and over and over......bloody slaughter after bloody slaughter and weep and wail and do nothing about it. This is totally on the shoulders of the gun lobby and the gun industry.......until we get tired of burying our friends and familys and do something about it I think all the concern is totally fake. No one on this country should be entitled to own a weapon madeonly for hunting and killing people. Period.
Maybe until Obamacare really kicks in Barrack, Michele and Justice Roberts can pick up the Hospital tab for all these poor unfortunate innocent people.who have no Insurance. I cannot imagine not having Insurance being that I have always HAD to work in order to pay for my Insurance.
I-tie, all you have to do is stop working and you can get Medicaid or some gov't program like that. So, if you are complaining that you have to work for your healthcare you only have yourself to blame. Unfortunately, if everyone caught on to that fact and quit their jobs society would collapse....so society HAS to have its fair share of people willing to take on the burden of the weak and unwilling or it all collapses. B/c there will ALWAYS be weak and unwilling....and the USA will never become a nation that lets people die even from a result of their own choices.
My prayers go out to this family man and I do pray for a speedy recovery for him. They should have been at home instead of out and about at a stupid showing of Batman especially since she was nine months along. Where are the priorities of families?????. Must have been in God's plan for them to be out among the others however no excuse for the idiot shooter. Life is precious and we need to look around and take care of it and enjoy our homes and family. As for Insurance, if I spent money for stupid things like Batman, popcorn, sodas and the other things involved in getting to this premier, I would have put it toward some Insurance to cover my family needs. For some reason some people do not have their lives in the right order. God be with him and keep him safe and bring him through this terrible ordeal. I sincerely mean that and pray for his life and all good things to come to him. Prayers to all the others of this ordeal and may they find comfort and love in their families and friends.
These were 2 grownups going to a movie...you questioning the logic of that? they should have stayed home in case she went into labor even though there was a hospital I believe across the street or should they have stayed home just in case someone tried to shoot at them...darn why didn't they think that was a possability? crazy kids...as for priorities, you have no idea what these 2 sacrificed to be able to go out for one last date before becoming parants..maybe it was on a gift certificate...what a pointless statement you made...her husband might die and she might read your post...lets just make her feel worst just to make you feel better about yourself. Insurance cost 100's a month...movie and a popcorn 50 bucks maybe...yes these are horrible unreasonable people..I hope you never face not having health insurance...maybe they have enough in thier savings account to pay for the baby and for basic medical care but maybe just maybe they don't quite have enough to cover gun shot wounds at the same time...judging someone is unGodley by the way.
Why are you judging this couple and thinking that they should have stayed at home? What you may have done has no bearing on them. Soda and popcorn money wouldn't even come close to an insurance premium. And did the article state that he wasn't working another job? He may very well have been. The sad thing is that anyone has to go without insurance. You do not know them or the entire circumstances.
Lisa--what we are QUESTIONING is this couple's lack of priorities.
Despite hubby NOT having a steady job, or them not having insurance, they CHOSE to get pregnant.
The fact that they ALSO chose to buy an out-of-ordinarily expensive ticket to a midnight showing, as well as spend astronomically high amounts of money to eat way over-priced and non nutritious theater food, again while pregnant, AND having 'not enough money' to buy insurance is the issue here.
Sounds to me like they were NOT ready (much less prepared for the responsibility of such) to have a baby.
You know very little about this couple. Maybe we should start judging you, after all we don't know you. We could make up all sorts of BS.
momaid - you nailed it.
I agree Momaid. There were years I couldn't afford to pay theater prices because I was paying for those silly important things- like having children, maintaining insurance....etc. It's a matter of priorities. I wish him well and pray for his continued recovery.
Mo maid, How do you know they CHOSE to have a baby? Accidents do happen, birth control can fail. It is to their credit they didn't have an abortion so they might continue life unhindered by a baby. There are those politicians right now who are trying to close Planned Parenthood, a clinic that provides birth control and family planning for young marrieds who would rather wait to get pregnant. Give these kids credit for wanting this child.
The price of movie theater popcorn can't hold a candle to the price of insurance, whether it is nutritious for a pregnant woman is an assinine comment on your part. The price of their movie ticket is none of your business, have some compassion, will you.
MOMaid, you know nothing about their financial status so please be quiet. When I was pregnant with my son, I had a job but ended up losing it and my insurance. Even though I was pregnant, the state my husband and I were living in said that we had made too much money and therefore didn't qualify for insurance. We ended up having to pay monthly payments, but we did it!
And why do you care that she was having theater popcorn? It's not like she was using crack or drinking alcohol. Sure it might not be the healthiest thing in the world, but you don't know what she had during the day. She could have eaten super healthy and had a little splurge. I did that too when I was pregnant, most pregnant women do.
You don't know anything about their life so stop judging them.
You are all amazing with your judgments and decisions about a couple you don't even know.
The problem, folks, is that the father was shot at a movie theater by a vicious nut! That really isn't in the conscious realm for any of us, is it? How would you like this to happen and everyone judges you for going to a movie? Idiots! All of you!
just so you know i am friends with both of them. they did have jobs and on top of the expenses of planning for a new baby, katie is also in school to be a Vet. so no paying $100's a month for insurance probably wasnt in their budget. they had been waiting to see that movie from the time they found out about it. what's wrong with a young, expecting couple wanting to have one last date just the two of them before baby Hugo came into this world. i am so sorry caleb and katie that some people in this world are so judgemental. you both deserve way better than all this.
Alyssa King-Miller :: Don't bother trying to argue with the ignoramuses here, it's like trying to reason with a drunk person. It cannot be done! I am sure your friends are wonderful people who certainly didn't deserve this in the face of a joyous time in their lives. To hell with these judgmental a-holes and their ignorant, hateful comments. They are the minority in the world, don't let them get you down - and remind your friends of that as well :-) The best to all!
I haven't seen what food any of the patrons consumed reported anywhere and I've read a LOT of reports.
The callous insensitive posts on here are as beyond comprehension as what James Holmes did.
I was raised in a very poor home with lots of love and I never felt poor in spirit. I sense an awful lot of people are spiritually bankrupt by reading some of these posts.
I saw one of the victims interviewed tonite who said, "Most people probably won't understand this; but I hold no anger towards James Holmes. I feel sorry for him. I can't imagine what it must feel like to wake up every day with that kind of anger and hatred to go out and kill total strangers.
Perhaps some of you could learn a few lessons from the victims.
This whole idea of having to choose health insurance and other necessities over going to the movies absolutely BAFFLES me! It seems too ignorant to even address, but alas several people here seem to agree with the reality of this predicament. Look, my wife and I go to the movies once a week b/c we love movies and doing something you love IS a necessity for life....b/c OTHERwise...WHY in the world are you paying for all these other necessities to live if you are indeed NOT bothering to actually enjoy life?
But back to the fiscal aspect of it....it costs us 18 bucks a week to go to the movies. Of course cinemas dont make much off of us b/c we NEVER buy food or drink in the cinema...we are there only for the film. But anyways....18 bucks a week times 52 weeks is $936 a year....which is nothing in the grand scheme. Granted, its not as much a stretch for us really, but even a couple getting by on $30,000 (which we were at one point) a year can do that. It counts for a THIRTIETH of your annual income! I'm sorry but if you cant devote a THIRTIETH of your annual income (NOW with a baby you probably wanna cut it down to a movie once every TWO weeks) and not be able to make your budget then you got serious problems.
Please people....this poor, tragic couple loved movies obviously....and obviously that was one of the things they lived for. Maybe you judgmental people find your love in things that don't cost money...and great for you....but some don't...and don't pass your judgment over them....especially when the cost is really not consequential.
I mean it's not like they are choosing weekend basejumping, cliffdiving, paintballing, cruises, etc. over healthcare....it's a movie ticket!!!!! You can shave 18 bucks a week off your grocery bill like THAT (snaps fingers) if you want!
Incinerate the human garbage, i.e. Holmes. Take the money that it would have cost us tax payers to prosecute the trash and give it to Caleb and Katie since they don't have health insurance. I can't afford insurance either and now I'm going to get taxed for not having it. I'm curious as to how many other victims will end up with horrendous bills that they can't afford even if they do have insurance. My sincerest prayers go out to all the victims of this senseless act committed by a piece of humanity turned evil.
I don't see how it's the movie maker's fault or the theater's fault and that they need to pay all the medical bills. It's this joker's fault. Even if the theater had armed guards at the door with metal detectors, it wouldn't have prevented this. He went out the back door to get his weapons.
And I agree with others - quit showing this jerk's picture, that's apparently what he wanted, don't give it to him.
It's not there fault at all. But they are in a position to help.n That movie is going to make so much money helping these people out who are the reason they make so much. is not going to break the bank.
You obviously have no clue how a business is run or it financially dealings.. Yes, studios make alot of money which is in turn already invested in current and future projects. They have some on the books for charitable donations, but something that is of no fault of theirs... People need to get a clue and quick looking for a hand out.
Warner Bros. just donated $1,000,000 to the fund for the people injured, etc. Now, if all of us donate $5 or $10, as a huge group, perhaps we could have an impact. Instead of looking for others to do everything, we should look to ourselves and what support we can offer.
No one is talking about the studios, investors and/or actors being at fault. They are talking about altruism, which I'm pretty sure the studios, most of their investors, and certainly their big stars are capable of.
To all of you schmucks questioning the validity of this baby being a miracle - ,,|,, - Is that clear enough for you to understand or should I post a picture for you? You all = heartless!
I agree! Holy cow! What all they have been through is beyond a nightmare! The "empathy" portion of the brains of many has atrophied!
Well, first prays to the new daddy Made God Bless with seeing your first born. And all you talking about not having insurance the can not pay. Donate would are good for there can pay the rent and food. But most community have a fund for the victim violent crime and I'm sure the state will help with medical. But for future medical who know. For right now everybody should just be prays for the familys of this crime.
Nice job planting your pro-socialized health care Obomma-slobbering quote at the end of the article, msn. Why not just bash Romney in there as well. Maybe blame Romney's tax returns for the real reason of the shootings. At least you haven't blamed Bush, yet. They won't have to pay any medical costs, you can go to any hospital in the country and get all the free health care you need. You can pay $10 a month for the rest of your life if they do bill you anything. That's what all you libtards fail to see. There already is free healthcare in this country, you can't be turned down if you are in need. It's just that the liberal gov't wants to have control because they see $trillions more that they can steal from us.
Bootlips they won't have to pay any medical costs, you can go to any hospital in the country and get all the free health care you need.
Are u ignorant or just stupid? You do realize that once they are released the hospital will come after them like Romney on a dollar bill to get the payment. This will destroy their lives financially and probably the weight of the medical bills alone will break this young couple.
NO, they won't be able to pay $10 a month for the rest of their lives, hospital are businesses and don't bill out like that. First, they get the bills, then the bills go to collections, then it goes to court, of which the court costs go to the the defendant, their credit is ruined, then they bill collectors garnish their wages for 15% of their income until the debit is paid. I know, I have been through it!! My husband had to have emergency heart surgery 5 years ago and we are still trying to dig out from under all the expenses!!
There already is free healthcare in this country, you can't be turned down if you are in need. IDIOT!! No, you can't be turned down for medical asistance but it is NOT FREE!! The only way it would be free is if YOU never work a day in your life and you don't have any income, but then you would be better off dead! I, oh, I, folks like you make me sooooooooooo mad!! You are ignorant of how the world works for the middle class. You know who gets FREE health care, Rush Limbaugh, the hospital gives him free health care for the publicity of him walking through the door. The rest of us have to pay!
It's just that the liberal gov't wants to have control because they see $trillions more that they can steal from us.
No, the Liberals, Socialists, Capitalists, see a need for better health care in this country!! Do you know why China went to a government health care system? They said because a healthy worker, is a more productive worker. How many billions of dollars is lost to BUSINESSES in this country do to sick time? It is the best interests of the Business community to make sure workers are healthy. Stop watching the "terrorist" owned network and ask your doctor, about "free health care" I bet he would give your an earful.
Can you comprehend the #1 reason people in this country file bankruptcy is overwhelming medical bills? And No, thanks to Repbulican bankruptcy reform, medical bills are not discharged when you file, they are protected. Republicans didn't fix any bankruptcy laws for the wealthy, like Donald Trump who files more regularly than Republicans call Obama a Socialist!
Blueingoregon--sorry, but the ONLY way this couple would have been made to pay would have been if they had owned a house the bill collectors could seize. (and without the dad working, that might have been a blessing.)
Lacking that, they can declare bankruptcy to eliminate all the bills, and since they probably didn't have much credit anyway, that will not be that much of a problem.
blueingoregon, China doesn't have millions of illegals getting FREE HEALTHCARE in their country!! Who do you think is paying for that and will continue to pay for that? And as far as talking to your doctor about free health care, why don't you talk to yours about Obamacare and see what earful you get. Be glad your husband had his surgery 5 yrs ago and pray he doesnt have to have it again. Under Obamacare he can go on a wait list if it's not deemed "emergent". Good luck with that!
Momaid, did you miss the part where Republicans made it harder to get a bankruptcy and med bill are exempt? Also, bill collectors can get judgements on your wages and they can garnish your pay until your debt is paid. Are you folks so out of touch that you don't know about wage garnishments?
I am very happy with OBAMACARE, I don't have to lay awake nights worrying about my health insurance cap if my husband does have to have surgery again, I also don't worry now about pre-existing conditions preventing us from GETTING health insurance. I don't have to worry about my 20 daughter who works less than full time not having insurance, I can keep her on my policy. Your right the one thing that Obama should have put in the health care bill was every doctor in order to practice medicine should have to accept a certain number of patience with Medicare or Medicaid. Then there wouldn't be long waiting periods to see the doctor. If doctors cared more about patients than they did driving Mercedes.
Also, I don't have to worry about the private isurance death panels!! Who don't base coverage on the quality of life a patient would have after a procedure, they base it on the numbers and let people die when something could have been done to save them. That is a death panel!
Leave it to the stupid media to find a "miracle" in all the carnage. Then again, after God wiped out the entire earth killing millions of people making him the biggest mass murderer history, we ought to be grateful that he spared Noah and his family.
God had his reasons. The people He wiped out (Whom He also created) were evil, vile people. His people, His choice to wipe them out.
I seriously doubt an aspiring comedian and vet student have the funds to save for a baby's delivery.
I seriously doubt you know what they can afford.
Risha, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this couple were not in a position to afford insurance The wife is a student and students don't get paid to go to school. And the husband didn't have any kind of real job,he was competing in a comedy festival for which I'm sure he was not being paid. I hope he recovers and can spend time with his baby. But I do think it was irresponsible of this couple to bring a new life into the world when neither one of them had a real job(if they did they'd have health insurance),

You have no information about how this couple earned their living. YOu have a nerve giving opinions of how responsible this couple is. Just because he was competing in a comedy festival, doesn't mean that he had no job. Most likely the mother also had a part time job as she went to school. Stop presuming anything about this couple, about whom you know nothing but have many negative opinions about.
Pray every day that nothing like this happens to you.
She could have had an abortion, would that have made you haters happy?
I know it says they had no insurance, but many schools offer some sort of health coverage to their students.
Oh stop with the drama Kathryn. We only look at the irony, a couple involved in a brutal attack that no one deserved have had their lives changed. This couple also were 9 months pregnant with no apparent ability to provide for and pay medical care for the baby that was due the same week. They did seem to have the time and energy to be at a midnight movie. On top of that irony the media baits us with "miracle baby" which was basically a lie since the mother and the baby were unharmed. On top of the complicated situation the gentleman is in a coma and without insurance, but has so far received 90k in donations and will obviously get far more with this story to cover the medical bills. If he survives, and we pray that he does, CineMark will settle with the victim's families and this baby will be well provided for. Bottom line, this couple will be fine. Hopefully other survivors will be treated to stories like this and get the donations they need as well.
And what is so wrong about this couple trating themselves to a night out? They should stay home because they can't afford insurance? What a bunch of hateful morons you people are.
Under Obommascare, everyone that was shot would be dead, they would all have bleed to death waiting to see a doctor. Change!
Under the Republican plan those shot would just have to die!
Isn't that what was said during the Republican debates? Didn't your righties yell, "Let him die!" Well, what if instead of a motorcycle accident, somebody went to see a movie and was shot and didn't have health care, are you folks still saying we should just let them die, because they couldn't afford $1200 a month for private health insurance and they were scheduled by Walmart 39 hours a week so Walmart doesn't have to offer health insurance to them.
I guess you think that we should just let them lay there on the floor bleeding to dealth until they could secure a credit card for their medical care. How Christian of you!
Blue--sorry, but you are like the ones that claim all pubs want dirty water and air because they do not want oppressive new regulation that favors ONE energy industry.
The victims of this incident were all taken to hospitals and treated, without knowing who they were or if they had insurance. That's the LAW.
Instead, all you silly libs who rail at the fat cat insurance companies who deny care etc, are just FINE with a supposed 'health care bill' (which does NOTHING to improve CARE) that hands those self-same POS insurance companies a new 30 million FORCED clients.
Amazin'.
MOmaid, yes they were taken to a hospital and treated. I am not arguing that. What I am arguing is now that they have been treated, is the hospital going to hound them, and bankrupt them for payment? That is NOT illegal. Did you happen to see the segment on 60 Minutes about the hospital having someone asking patients for credit cards before they even see the doctor? What that and tell me about how great private insurance is.
My suggest is make all health insurance companies not-for profit. Get the shareholders out and expensive CEOs, and make their mission about patient care, not profit!! It worked before Nixon!!
The republican plan is to give everyone vouchers so how is that better? Especially since Romney said he would not empose a cap so the insurance companies cant raise their prices more than the voucher is for.
It sounds to me like single payer is something we could agree on.
My husband and I have had insurance since we were first married in our early 20's and still to this day. We have had 2 children while insured and have many friends who are not insured who pay much much less for there births than i did and mine were natural delivery. We ponder why we are even paying to be insured when it doesnt seem to make a difference and many people are being charged less to have the same procedures because they do not have insurance. We are to the point we would rather put the thousands of dollars every year into a savings account for if an emergency/medical situation arises. I do not fault this family for having insurance. It is the ones being cautious and doing what we think is responsible that are paying.
bootlips, where in the world do you get this stuff...from your survivalist, redneck buddies? death panels indeed!
Above said "Cool story, bro. But I need you explain why this baby is a "miracle". Exactly. Sick of the news always labeling this stuff as a "miracle." Well, a jet blew up, but we found a baby floating in the ocean - by God, it's a miracle! Bull s---. The miracle would have been if none of this happened: no @!$%# head with orange hair murdering people, and, let's see, if airline maintenance would have paid attention and prevented a crash. That would have been a miracle. Apparently, miracles only happen after full-blown tragedies, which is a sad statement.
You know, there is no reason to be so hateful. If they feel it is a miracle then so be it.
A debate about health care is not what this couple needs. This couple needs assistance. Why don't they put up websites and/or information where to contribute for these people? There were 58 people injured, I believe. Why isn't there a list for them all? If most of us or all of us gave $10.00 to the funds, we could set up quite a fund for these people. So, why aren't these chat sites letting people know where and how to contribute?
Debate health care, great! Right now we need to help all these people!
That is right on! I agree, and I would love to help these people with the little bit that I can give. My heart goes out to them. I delivered my baby girl in Denver and we lived in Aurora at the time. I feel a bond with the people there and would be much more interested in giving than debating right now!
Go to the website in the story. I did and it is amazing how many people have helped so far!
There is a link in the article that will take you to the place you can donate.
Thank you! I was in a hurry and didn't notice it when I read the article. Just mailed a check for $10.00. Wish I could afford more, but like AllPeopleRights said, if we all give that much, it adds up to a lot! :)
God bless you Caleb
So by these standards of a miracle, there were more miracles that day then not. I mean more people made it out alive then didn't. Right? Also calling survivors miracles really takes away from the people that did not make it. Were they not miracles also? They just happened to get in the line of fire.
