This mayor should be impeached. Telling law enforcement not to enforce certain laws is clearly a violation of her oath of office. The mayor has no legal authority what-so-ever to tell police what laws they and can not enforce or what questions they can and can not ask. Those determinations are made by state and federal law, not by some full of herself mayor. She also does not have the authority to dictate how city resources are used, those determinations are in the hands of the city council that controls the city budget, not in the hands of the mayor. This woman has so overstepped her authority that I dare her to try and take any legal action against officers or other city employees who violate this order of hers. She is taking after Obama, trying to legislate by executive order because those in charge of making the laws do not agree with their policies or agenda.

I disagree with that logic. States like Arizona and Alabama are thwarting "illegal" immigration not "legal" immigration. 1. Baltimore should be pursued by the Obama Administration in court (lawsuits including applications for injunctions, jail costs, etc.) on the basis that these actions infringe on the province of the federal government-- as there are Acts of Congress that impose civil and criminal penalties on immigration lawbreaking.

2. The City of Baltimore should be required by the State of Maryland to pay ALL COSTS (healthcare, WIC, costs for schooling the children of ILLEGALS, Section 8 Housing, etc.) of its rewards for immigration lawbreaking policies--- THE COSTS ARE ENORMOUS! BALTIMORE MUST PAY!

3. Whan an Outrage! The Citizens of Maryland must confront this INSANITY!

David Walker, we may have come from immigrants, but they were legal immigrants! It's a big difference! If Baltimore wants to cater to immigrants, fine but they need to be here legally. The last time I was in Baltimore, a group of us were walking in a neighborhood near the inner harbor. As we passed the police station, an officer came out and told us that we didn't want to be walking around in that area. I don't even want to imagine what that cesspool of a city will be like after the current mayor is done. The mayor should be asking why people left the city and rectify those issues instead of creating a city where the only people that want to be there are criminals (illegal aliens).

I'm really not trying to be a cynic here, and I hold myself to be fairly liberal in the historic sense of the word, but for the life of me, I can't understand what would be the goal of filling a rusting hulk of a city with illegal immigrants. In Baltimore's case, it probably won't drive up the crime rate, but neither will it increase the tax base in any way, and it will surely serve as a further drain on public resources. Likewise, I'm not concerned about voter fraud, because the votes of citizens ceased to count for anything in this country some time ago. Is the goal to drive down the value of real estate? Ahh what you seem to have forgotten is that having a simple majority doesn't MEAN you can pass any single piece of legislation that you want. Read Article 1 of the US Constitution. I also seem to recall that the Affordable Health Care Plan (RomneyCare National for you righties) was also passed. That's pretty significant to me.

It does effectively state that no city employee shall enforce federal regulations as it pertains to immigration. This is where the right-wing shows their hypocrisy because they call for less federal government involvement but when the cards are down they point out all the federal government's laws that are in place for whatever event occurred, usually trying to support the federal government's role in it.

However, if you closely read the article, it shows the half-truths of the left-wing. Sure no city employee will do the federal government's job for them but how then can the federal government enforce its own laws? By the current administration's own admission, federal resources, including manpower to enforce federal laws, are spread very thin. So without the assistance of state and local LEOs how does one expect these laws to be enforced? So basically, this is a welcome mat to illegal immigrants because the local enforcement branch as you stated earlier will not be enforcing anything beyond the local crimes.

No I did not miss it, I just interpreted it differently than you did. I choose to put a positive spin on things like this instead of assuming the worst outcomes. The "no questions asked" bit could be refering to anything. It could mean what you think it means but it could also mean that the city is not going to force their cops to start asking for you to prove you are here legally either without just cause during a stop for something else.

It could just mean they are not going to force your to prove you are not an illegal, innocent until you are proven to be guilty. I do not like the fact that we have people here illegally as much as the next guy but the legal immigrants should not suffer because of this.

Enact common sense laws that affect only illegal immigrants and do not lead to the harassment of legal immigrants and some of these issues will go away. Most citizens cannot walk into an emergency room, get treatment and then walk out without paying. WOW!!! what rock have you been freaking living under! undocumented people get ALL welfare services: monetary, food, medical, housing, special classes for them and their kids, driver's licenses even though they can't read English. it freaking insane and it's the reason so many of our states are going broke, well that and that so many of our jobs have been shipped over seas, which is part of the reason Baltimore is in decline anyway, all their manufacturing went away.

On top of everything else, they're exempted from Obamacare, which means the emergency rooms will still be flooded with the uninsured with false ID and address. Maybe they can do triage in the parking lot.

Chloe, I haven't been under a rock. I live in Connecticut--here undocument people are not eligible for any state services. Not Food Stamps, Welfare, Cash Assistance, Section 8 (which is a federal program), health insurance--nothing. I can admit that I'm not familiar with the processes of Baltimore but here all of those services are partially or entirely funded by federal dollars and that makes undocumented people ineligible for any of those services.

Although illegal immigrants themselves may not be eligible for welfare, any children they give birth to in the U.S. are automatically citizens -- and those children are then able to receive welfare that helps to support the whole family. Or, at least, that is the way the welfare system is run in my state of California.

That fact was announced back in Early-mid 2009 when the Census was being planned.
