Idaho billboard compares Obama to Colorado theater shooting suspect

"Offensive." "Abhorrent." "Pathetic." Words like that are being used to describe a billboard in Caldwell, Idaho, that compares President Barack Obama — unfavorably — to James Eagan Holmes, the suspect in the shooting deaths of 12 people in a Colorado movie theater last week.

The sign features photos of Holmes and Obama side by side. Of Holmes, it says: "Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out." Of Obama, it says: "Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize."

The electronic billboard often blares anti-Obama messages, but this one struck people as especially insensitive. It's the work of supporters of the late Ralph Smeed, for many years a lightning-rod activist for libertarian causes in Idaho, The Idaho Statesman of Boise reported.

"This billboard is offensive to all those lives lost and affected by the shooting," wrote a commenter on the Facebook page of KBOI-TV of Boise, which first reported the story. "Just pathetic, even if this is their expression of the 1st amendment."

Read the full story and see the billboard at KBOI-TV

Another called it "insulting, ridiculous and just plain inaccurate."

Watch US News videos on NBCNews.com

Maurice Clements, a former Idaho lawmaker who now keeps Smeed's tradition alive, told the Statesman: "We're all outraged over that killing in Aurora, Colo., but we're not outraged over the boys killed in Afghanistan."

Asked about the reaction to his billboard, Clements acknowledged: "That's a technique of trying to make a point, and maybe it was poorly done."

Hmmm... Here's the real issue: The people behind the billboard message sound like they are far right wing conservative Christian Republicans - who still cannot get over the fact that a "Black Man," a man of mixed race, won election as POTUS.

Rather than trying to do positive things to help other people, all they can think about is finding every way possible to discredit, denigrate, and try to illegitimize President Obama. I am a moderately conservative Republican, but I am not part of that crowd.

However, the fact is: Mr. Obama's election is the direct responsibility and fault of the Republican Party.

The Republican Party hung their hopes on a cranky old fart who could not remember how many houses he owns, and what's her name from Alaska. Those were two very bad, extremely poor, choices. The same thing is going to happen this year, IF the Republican Party selects Mr. Romney as the nominee. The Republican Party needs to quickly get very serious about finding a better-qualified candidate to oppose Mr. Obama.

Willard is running around as if he has already won the nomination, and the election; and that is fueling his penchant for making goofy statements such as those he made in London yesterday. Willard is not a good choice.

You KKK members do know that Romney supports the Ryan plan that gives him over $700,000 tax break on money known, and at the same time it raises taxes on YOU the middle class by 20%. So Romney doesn't take government money from the tax breaks given to all the companies that outsource jobs? Really? That's taking away jobs from Americans and paying foreigners. America loses all that money and on top Romnney gets a tax break for doing it. Proud...guess who makes up the difference in taxes to pay for taxes Romney doesn't pay? YOU PROUD! He uses our military, our transporataion, our court system, etc protecing his investments and pays nothing back.

Romney has 102 million in retirement IRA for 10 years.....Only thing is, $30,000 is most you can put in each year....do the math.....!

Romney, for a worse tomorrow ...today.

Jeff-1592116:

Well I find this wrong and even more wrong, but I have to ask where was the out rage over the left when people on the left were comparing BUSH or the Republicans to Nazi’s.

HMM where were you guys, that’s right you still do it.

From January 20, 2001 to January 19, 2009—those would be the Bush years—the left was comparing President George W. Bush to Hitler and calling his administration to the 43rd Reich. Also saying things like Bush for one thing, is not as smart as Adolf Hitler and that Bush has way more power then Adolf Hitler ever had

In 2004 the left not only attacked Bush but all newly elected Republicans saying stuff like now we have got a bunch of Hitler now.

Also the a lot on the left blame the United States for the attack on 9/11, saying stuff like "But who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists? ... They flew the plane in, but we caused it." Or 911 was an inside job.

The left has shown image of President Bush with a clown nose or a swastika.

As far as I’m concerned the left can go pound sand. YOU don’t like it when your guys in office yet its fine if it’s the others guy in office.

DO you on the left understand that Hitler makes this guy who killed those people in the theater look like a quire boy compared to Hitler. I got a great idea how about this when you on the left stop your **** and BS. We on the right will stop too. In tell then quit being upset about it your side has done it too.

Everyone here needs to stop and take a deep breath. People on each side of the issues are both screaming "The other side is nothing but morons! My side is the right side! People on the other side must be inferior/have something wrong with them!"

As long as people keep thinking that way, we're just going to keep getting railroaded by politicians, corporations, and the corporate media (BOTH sides) into things that aren't good for anyone but them. Ordinary people on the left and right need to start talking with each other and synthesizing ideas. We need to stop allowing the political discourse from getting so extreme, because THAT will be the death of the US. We are not living up to the motto that our founders adopted, E Pluribus Unum. From many, one. The language of left and right, red and blue, my side and your side needs to stop. It doesn't matter if you're liberal or conservative, we are all citizens of the United States of America.

Of course with all that said, this billboard is extremely insensitive and tactless. Both to the president, and the victims of the shooting and their families (it's only been 1 week for crying out loud, people are still in the hospital).

Roy, you're confusing the unwashed masses with facts. They have their marching orders from Barrack Hussein, the DNC and Debbie Whatsername Slutz.

It's not their fault. They have been so indoctrinated, and beaten down so low, they know it will take a miracle for them to ever be able to achieve anything. The Liberals/Progressives don't allow the real truth to be exposed because then the useful idiots will realize there is indeed life after poverty. The Party of Progress has spent over 45 years and trillions of dollars keeping them illiterate and downtrodden, the last thing they want is for them to see facts presented and realize how much they've been lied to so they can remain controlled.

The only hope we, who understand true Liberty and the fact that everyone has the ability to reach the America Dream, have is to eliminate the disease inhabiting our White House and the Senate and hope it's not too late to allow American exceptionalism to replace the nonsense known as social and economic justice.

Before everyone here blames the Republicans, it's entirely possible that far left anti-war people are behind this. They are furious that President Obama didn't immediately close down Gitmo and then pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan so this is a perfect way to give him hell about it. After all, everyone is going to blame the Republicans, so it's really a win-win scenario for them.

confirming two things: racism is rampant on the right, and, as the sign already suggested, rightwingers are shi+heads.

A forgettable thimblebrain wrote that the sign wasn't republikkkan, it was libertarian. This is like saying John Birchers and their kissin cousins the teabuggers are not republicans. Of course they are, they're merely part of the right wing's right wing.

And somebody with a happy faced Newsletter Author as their icon (but he didn't know what was in it) said something totally incomprehensible, suggesting that she is in astral plane communication with the Great Ditz of Minnesota, Mizz Hottie Contest Runner-Up Bachmann.

Now there's a level of blankness here that is beyond description, let alone communication, but my question to them is: What Will Corporate Fascist Control of the Country Do For You?

And remember what you posted before?? you have told us repeatedly that you work as an accountant. Which makes it even worse the lies you post because if anybody in this country knows about numbers and budgets and deficits its people like you.

1.42 trillion deficit left by Bush. Deficits add to debt.
2009 bush last budget 3.517 trillion dollars... yes 09 was still a Bush budget.
Minus 185 billion for ARRA, thats "Obama spending".

Bush had requested 3.11 trillion dollars for fiscal year 2009
This also included appropriations for the war that weren't plan of the budget, Obama made sure they were added.
In the end we end up with 3.517 trillion budget for 09.
Minus 187 equals 3.332 of total Bush budget for 09 the rest is Obama spending which equals 187 biilion.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals Table 1.3

2010 Obama budget 3.456 trillion

2011 Obama budget 3.603 trillion

2012 Obama budget 3.795 trillion

(187 b in 09 for ARRA) + 3.456 + 3.603 + 3.795 = 11041 / 3 = 3.680 trillion dollars average a year.

3.680 minus 3.330 = 350 billion average Obama spending in hes first term every budget.

A total of 1 trillion added to the debt under Obama for 3 budgets. Bush added 6.1 trillion and left a 1.42 trillion deficit.
Left a 1.42 trillion deficit Left
Left a 1.42 trillion deficit Left
Left a 1.42 trillion deficit Left
Left a 1.42 trillion deficit Left
Left a 1.42 trillion deficit Left

The 2013 budget has a deficit of 900 billion. A 520+ billion cut

The comparison on this sign is uncalled for and unproductive!!! Unfortunately, there is so much hate mongering on Democratic side of the isle, especially in the homosexual community, that we were bound to see Newton's third law come into play sooner or later.

Obama's moral corruption is destined to create friction in the mind of any principled American. Interestingly, just when I personally thought Obama could not become any more morally corrupt, I recently learned he has made yet another Faustian deal with the devil. In this case, he has appointed the "King Of Gay Pornography" to his campaign finance committee, patted him on the back and told him to keep up the good work.

Barack Obama has made it clear he plans to continue with his war on America, the Catholic Church, US Christians, success, small business and American socioeconomic thinking! As a result, this is creating backlash, even from within his own party. Conservatives like to complain that Barack Obama is the most liberal president we've ever had, a closet Marxist who's determined to turn America into a socialist hell and that his despotic socialist agenda is the big lie of the twentieth century. Historians realize world history provides compelling proof that Obama's brand of socialism promised prosperity, equality, and security, but has only delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Historically, equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery!

Those historic facts aside, Obama has crafted a shrewd campaign from a worldly perspective. Of note is the fact a significant portion of his campaign strategy was based on development of strategic alliances with many of the most godless and morally debased segments of our society in a thinly veiled effort to secure votes from those "the Obama administration believes" to be one dimensional, intellectually compromised, single issue constituencies. Many in this group had the misfortune of growing up in a broken home. The resulting dysfunction in these homes leads to emotional instability, mental illness and severe narcissism producing a common thread and liberal bias.

Beyond requisite intellectual acumen, our upcoming president MUST have a strong moral foundation and acute, politically savvy awareness the principles of prudent governance. Unfortunately for America, Obama's morally vapid strategic political alliances clearly disqualify him from this hallowed leadership role. For that reason, more and more moderate and conservative principled members of the democratic party believe they must abandon Obama's candidacy and their party line vote for the long term good of our country! Essentially, they believe it is best to retreat and return to fight another day when the Democratic party can submit a candidate who is willing to uphold traditional American values rather than to attempt to destroy the country from within.

The fact that the two parties are exactly the same, with obama keeping all of george bush's failed policies regarding Gitmo, Iraq, Iran, Afganistan, Patriot act, Deficit spending, TARP bailouts, Car Co. bailouts, Stimulus plans.....Why the hell don't the two parties just get a room and make out, they do the same damn thing to this country year after year.

All of you who want to attribute this to the far right, whatever that is, should use what brains you have and analyze the billboard. It's really not that hard. Look at it this way: For 7 1/2 years after 9/11 the left spent almost every waking moment criticizing Bush for his policies in Iraq and Afghanistan. The lib media constantly showed as many gory scenes as possible and made sure the public was aware of what the "death toll" was, on a daily basis. As soon as Obama came to office, there's been nary a word about any of it. Are there still deaths there? Of course there are, but the lib media doesn't want you to know about it. Are there libs that are upset about Obama's policies over there? Of course there are. They feel Obama has betrayed them. So, this billboard points that out. Seems like a lib put up the billboard, not a conservative. Let's face it, if Obama had an "R" after his name, this article would never have been printed and no one in the lamestream media would have thought it was hateful or distasteful. As they say of Libertarians, they are so far right they are left, they are so far left they are right. This is clearly a billboard that falls on lap of the left. So blaming the right is ridiculous.

Alex......Great post as always....Roy has no conscience and continue to post lies day after day.

Ted and others....People HATE BUSH...Because he LIED A NATION INTO WAR. His reason was "I want to be known as a war president, because war president are remembered." Told to a female Air force officer intel member who now lives a a Montana ranch. He told her this before 911. Bush cabinet except Powell were looking into starting a war with Iraq before 911. Cheney was running the show as the whole nation remembers. The whole lies with known false intel was fed the nation for a couple years. Colin Powell found out then quit the cabinet and wrote about the lies to nation to start a war. Thousands of our troops died for no reason. Over 20,000 more wounded and still dying. Billions thrown away for Cheney to give no bid contracts to Haliburton Cheney's old company. Nothing but war profits as Cheney number one priority. Mission accomplished, no plan after Iraq falls. terrorists come into country stealing much of Iraq arms to use against the U.S. troops later........Thousand dead and still dying for nothing but GREED AND POWER TRIP! NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE HATE THIS MURDERER named BUSH?

I'm not a fan of GWB but in fairness it should be noted that Afghanistan isn't just an American war. NATO has been involved from the beginning. The British actually have more troops there then we do at this time. And Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11/2001. 9/11/2001 is why we are in Afghanistan.

No ceegar for you mister. It is wrong to try to mix budgets, deficits and debts into one. Each one is different. Now if you want to the treasury.gov site and compare the actual historical debt as reported by the US dept of treasury you will get the actual numbers spent regardless of FY budgetary numbers. Yes the war costs show up here as well even if not a line item on anyones approved budget.

If you look at what the passed FY2009 budget allocated neither TARP or the 2009 stimulas will likely show up. Now, when the treasury tells us what our debt is at the end of FY2009 (oct 2010) it is logical to assign TARP to bush2 and company but any other expenditures beyond the originally passed FY2009 budget plan after jan 2009 goes to obama, ie the $800 billion + 2009 stimulas.

The national debt is in real $$$ numbers not the spin numbers of % or of GDP or budgetary goal numbers. Comparing the real $$$ spent (via actual national debt numbers) tells us what each administration has spent. Even when taking into account for the projected national debt through sept 2013 (last FY of obama) shows us that the obama administration will have spent more than bush2's administration.

There are no excuses that you can present to say differently as each administration sets the standards for spending even for exogenous events. To blame the bush2 administration is the same as to blame the obama administration. The buck stopped at both their doors.

BTW - If you want to talk about budgets why didn't obama force the democrat controlled congress to submit budgets for FY2010 and FY2011 for approval? Why did the republican controlled house have to do the FY2011 budget for them? Why does the senate under senate leader reid still refuse to offer up a FY2012 or FY2013 budgetary plan? I mean the FY2012 plan is really nothing more than a continuing resolution for spending.

Interesting that obama and the left really don't want to come up with a budget per law.

I wonder how soon it will be before you start condeming obama for not seeking congressional approval for the libyan intervention.

Interesting that obama and the left really don't want to come up with a budget per law.

You are one misinformed little parrot..... ARRA will not be spent fully until 2019. Look it up..

Lets do something.... In Oct 2008 Bush submitted a 3.110 trillion budget for fiscal year and thats what he requested and no one can argue with that ok... Obama comes in and passes the final budget for 2009 at 3.5 trillion. Logic tells us that Obama added 389 billion to the already requested Bush budget of 3.11 trillion. But we know that Obama spent 187 for ARRA in 2009 budget, so where do the other 202 billion come from?

Lets look at it like this. Bush turned in 7 budgets before the 2009 budget. If you go and look at those 7 budgets you will see that those budgets are sent as money requested and in the end the money enacted has always been higher. He did that for 7 budgets and you are going to tell me that in hes last budget after nearly bringing the country down with the financial crisis its exactly what he requested. YEAH RIGHT!!!

Give me a link that shows what Obama added for spending in 2009 other than the 187 billion for ARRA.

TARP was part of the 3.1 trillion "REQUESTED" by Bush. And let me tell you it wasn't the 800 billion that you list above it was more like 475 billion in the end.

Republicans passed their version of the budget that asked for a balanced budget amendment to be able to pass in congress. Do you know what that would have meant for our country? Does Greece ring a bell?

That budget by the republicans was all a show!! Because if you look at the Bush years all the legislation that brought down the country in those years it was all approved by the same leadership in the Senate and House that wanted a balanced budget amendment.

Sometimes i feel like they did all that spending under Bush to bring the country down and then come and attack Medicare and SS. And if Romney is elected the Ryan plan is sure to be adopted. Thats why i believe that before the election most of the country will know exactly what the Ryan plan will mean for them. Obama will make sure that happens.

In all of this verbiage I found two, possibly three, posts that had something to say. The rest are responding to each other and steadily escalating as they do it.

I like what Pale Blue Dot had to say; it's way back up the line. He/she is right; we need to get back to being a unified country again and not a nation of tennis balls battered around by corrupt politicians, a media that is far from non-partisan and an election system that is flawed.

As far as the sign goes; it is my opinion that Obama needs to go. But, a billboard of the type described has no place in the process.

The two party system has become so degraded, so unworkable that this sort of thing can happen and will again. We need an honest choice, not Obama, who is working under the table to bring this country into European style Socialism - not Romney, who we are supposed to vote for because he is not Obama. We need to find our way back to where and who we used to be.

Both to the president, and the victims of the shooting and their families (it's only been 1 week for crying out loud, people are still in the hospital).

debdem: The problem is that you and a lot of dems have no recollection, or at least an incorrect recollection of what Bush said. The fact is that Bush never, ever said that "Iraq has WMDs." I repeat, he NEVER said that. He did say that there was intelligence indicating that Sadaam had it and was trying to acquire it. And, guess what? Pelosi, Reid, algore, and others looked at the intelligence and reached the same conclusion. The fact is that there was such intelligence. The delusional defefinition of "lying" that the libs have been using is so absurd as to, ordinarily shouldn't be necessary to comment on. An analogy is if I come up to you and introduce my friend to you and say "debdem, I want you to meet my friend Jane." Then, someone you know comes up to you and you introduce "Jane" by saying "Mary, this is Jane." And everyone in the room who hears you and shout that you are a liar because the woman's name is actually named Connie. Did you lie? You, and other libs apparently wish to think so. Is that the ordinary person's understanding of lying? Of course not! Yet, the insistence of a lie continues. Why? Because, for libs, if the truth doesn't match their yarn, they have to continue to repeat the yarn until they get enough people to believe that it is the truth. You may be too young to know, but under Bush 41 the treaty signed with Sadaam said that Sadaam had to prove that he destroyed certain weapons, and of course when he kept booting out the inspectors, which he agreed were to be there, he violated the surrender treaty. Because of that, it is logical to assume that he had not destroyed the weapons that he said he had destroyed. Oh, and they actually did find WMDs in Iraq! They were the older weapons that Sadaam didn't destroy. Also, it doesn't take a genius to realize that with the time given to Sadaam before the actual fighting began that he had plenty of time to ship any WMDs out of the country. Nothing has established that he did not do so.

Since you are so insistent on calling people liars, even when not warranted, how about you being truthful and call Obama a liar. Heck, his lies are even more obvious. Remember his claim that "Stimulus' needed to be passed to prevent the unemployment rate from going above 8%? Well, it's obvious that he lied because it hasn't been below 8% since it was passed. Of course, we know that libs don't hold their own to the same standard that they hold conservs to.

Its that a fox news talking point?? That Obama has not a passed a budget? The budget is still passed through laws below as written in the constitution.

Under the U.S. presidential system, the support of the Congress for the President's appropriations requests is not necessary for the separately elected President to remain in office, but can severely limit the President's ability to govern effectively.

In the United States, two types of legislation are used to spend money. An authorization establishes a program that will later spend the money, but does not necessarily provide any funding. A mandatory program is one that does not need an additional piece of legislation known as an appropriation in order for spending to occur. The authority for spending to occur for the mandatory program is included in the authorization legislation. Social security benefits are an example of a "mandatory" program.

An authorization bill can create programs and make known Congress's intended level of spending for programs that also require an appropriation. What distinguishes a mandatory program from a discretionary program is that after Congress enacts a law creating a mandatory program, the program is permitted to spend funds until the program expires based on a provision in law, or until a subsequent law either terminates the program or reauthorizes it. "Discretionary" programs typically require annual appropriations legislation.

An appropriation bill is used to actually provide money to "discretionary" programs. Appropriations are generally done on an annual basis, although multi-year appropriations are occasionally passed. According to the United States Constitution (Article I, Section 8, clause 12), army appropriations cannot be for more than two years at a time. An annual appropriation requires that the funds appropriated be obligated (spent) by the end of the fiscal year of the appropriation. Once the fiscal year ends, no more money can be spent via the prior year's appropriation. A new appropriation for the new fiscal year must be passed in order for continued spending to occur, or passage of a special appropriations bill known as a continuing resolution, which generally permits continued spending for a short period of time—usually at prior year levels. The Anti-Deficiency Act makes void any attempt to spend money for which there is no current appropriation.

According to the United States Constitution (Article I, Section 7, clause 1), all bills relating to revenue, generally tax bills, must originate in the House of Representatives, consistent with the Westminster system requiring all money bills to originate in the lower house which is why the appropriations bills that are enacted begin with "H.R.", indicating a bill that originated in the House. The Constitution also states that the "Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills," so in practice, the Senate and House each drafts and considers its own bill. The Senate then "cuts-and-pastes", substituting the language of its bill of a particular appropriations bill for the language of House bill, then agrees to the bill as amended.

Aside from Obama not passing a budget what in my math is flawed? Can you post some numbers that discredits my math?

"Maurice Clements, a former Idaho lawmaker who now keeps Smeed's tradition alive..."

Congratulations, Clements, you've just reminded us of a sample of the kind of supremely absurd things that Republican-voting Libertarians want others to dishonorably believe in. I think it's safe to say that you've just done both political parties of the Right and the Far Right, a grave public disservice.

And I, personally, want to thank you for doing so ...because you've just made my choice for President much more clearer with me, come the November Elections.

funny isn't it -- how quickly conservatives prove to us that they have NO VALUES. Before, mormonism was a whacky cult. Now, one of its biggest Chief Cultists is the Savior of the Right Wing.

They have no values, or at best, they'll sell what little values they have for a DIME.

Mitt and his Magic Underwear! The Right-Wing's choice for President.

We all support free speech, but all they seem to do with their liberty is exercise their rights to hate speech and stupid comments. There's a lot I'd like to agree with in the GOP, but as long as they stand up for the ignorant bigots like the ones responsible for this billboard, then I can't support them.

Independent Study Finds Bush "Unequivocally" Lied U.S. into War with Iraq

opednews.com

A nonprofit collaboration of two independent, non-governmental organizations has concluded that President Bush used at least 532 misleading and deceptively false statements to justify military action against Iraq. In all, the Bush administration as a whole used a mind-numbing 935 false statements to goad America into war with Iraq. Calling their findings "an orchestrated deception on the path to war," the partnership report may very well be the first fully comprehensive investigation that incontrovertibly proves the Bush administration lied this nation into an unfounded war.

The Center for Public Integrity and the Fund for Independence in Journalism determined, through a collective study and breakdown of Bush administration speeches, press briefings and interviews, that Bush and other top officials "led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information."

According to the report, Bush alone lied more than 259 times, including 232 false statements "about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq" and "28 about Iraq's links to al-Qaida." Quoting Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith of the Fund for Independence in Journalism, "It is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to al-Qaida." Furthermore, the shared study noted, "the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

Among the seven top officials cited, Colin Powell was the most egregious in the dispersal of dissembling and mendacious language regarding the requisite call for war against Iraq. Powell is attributed to having made 244 false statements about weapons of mass destruction in a two-year period beginning on September 11, 2001 and through the commencement of military action in Iraq on March 18, 2003.

As a microcosm example of at least 935 lies cataloged by the exhaustive study, Vice President Dick Cheney declared on August 26, 2002 that "Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction." Bush's patently false proclamation, made on May 29, 2003, "We have found the weapons of mass destruction," has now been completed discredited. Of course, no weapons of mass destruction were ever found and George Bush, on NBC's Meet the Press in 2004 conceded, "No weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq."

In a never-ending stream of fuzzy rationales to justify war, beginning as early as November of 2001, the Bush administration began making disingenuous statements attempting to tie Saddam to the attackers of 9/11. Quoting Bush, "They're both risks, they're both dangerous. The difference, of course, is that Al Qaeda likes to hijack governments. Saddam Hussein is a dictator of a government. Al Qaeda hides, Saddam doesn't, but the danger is, is that they work in concert." However, in stark contrast, the 9/11 Commission Report was unable to establish any "evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with Al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States."

The comprehensive study also touches on and illuminates the vast failures of the mainstream media; mainly their failure to offer critical scrutiny, while chiefly operating as Bush's surrogate and disseminator in the misleading rhetoric of the dire need to take the country to war. During that critical, seminal juncture in the run up to the war, the media "creating an almost impenetrable din" that forced out nearly all dissenting views, the report revealed.

In what may be the first true, categorical "War Report Card" that separates fact from fiction, fine tunes mass distortion into utter clarity, the Center for Public Integrity makes a compelling case that "Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq."

It's inspiring to see Idaho, land of right wing neo-nazi survivalist militias, is exercising its First Amendment right of freedom of speech by making ignorant, hateful, and bigoted statements for the entire world to see. then you add the ignorant name-calling and attack of :

I am going to act like you libs and do some name calling.....you are all f-ing idiots.

I lived in Idaho for my first 27 years and I can tell you that there's a reason why I left that state! "Democrat" was considered a 4-letter word there. There were very, very few people who were not republican. If you spoke out in support of any Democrat or progressive cause, you were attacked and ridiculed. (I have a Democrat friend who still lives there and hardly dares to speak a word about politics at work.) Racism was rampant there. If you dated someone outside of your race (say, a black person), you can bet people were staring at you and/or threatening you AND the black person. And gay people? Forget about it! Hate crimes against them practically every weekend. In fact, if you look up the word "hate", you might very well find a picture of the state of Idaho next to it. Google a lady named Helen Chenoweth, who was repeatedly elected to Congress by Idahoans. She was just as scary as Sarah Palin.

So, am I surprised by this billboard? Absolutely not!!!

Suffice it to say - when I escaped, I never looked back!

The Bible says that POWER will given to the Beast, to make war on the Saints and overcome them . Jan1 ,2012 Obama passed a little thing called the NDAA , I suggest every single one of you, read every word of it. What you are going to find as I did , is this so called LAW was made exactly for the purpose stated above ,the killing of the Christians. This gives the President the POWER ,to name any Individual,State ,or Organization (Church,Militia ) an enemy combatant, and bring the full force of the US military against them . NO FLAG OF TRUCE WILL BE HONORED ,AND QUARTER SHALL BE GIVEN. So in fact these Idahoans you callin DA's are a lot smarert than alot of you people ever thought about being ,at least their heads are not buried to the shoulders.

Right - both want taxes to go to zero (even to their detriment), limited or non-existant federal government, no government involvement in business and both were integral in the tea party movement. I can see the difference. LOL In fact - if they are so different - why did ROn Paul run as a repub?

Has anyone asked the question, 'Why is there so much right wing hate in America?'. These people live in the greatest country in human history and all they can do is muster up hate. They should be grateful they don't live a hell hole like Somalia.

Why? Rovian politics gone wild. Anyone remember back in the day when studies were done on TV messaging and it's brainwashing capability? Subliminal messaging? Leveraging latent fears? The studies showed just how powerful repeated and targeted messages were and how they could actually shape the thinking of an unsuspecting viewer. It's real.

After so many years of "hate ads work" attitudes from the right, we're basically out of control. With targets like the poor, the unfortunate, the unemployed, the non-white, the non-Christian, the young, the female, and anyone else "not like us", the political machines have surfaced more hate in a decade than we've seen for a century.

Add in the desensitization of our society with the hate and violence in movies, in games, and even on the radio, and you have effected a major change in the way we think and interact.

Now the Democrats are struggling and sometimes giving in to the hate messaging. It works. So why not. The end justifies the means, right? Winning off of lies is still winning, isn't it?

We need to start making consequences for lying. We need to raise our voices and reverse this uncaring discriminatory trend. We all talk ethics and morals but let false and hurtful lies stand without consequence. We are letting this happen...

Forget it conservatives, the left has a far bigger propaganda network than you! The left have become masters of information manipulation.

The left has the cable news, tv news, print news and most of the internet news (except Fox). The left has the minds of the youth in schools through the NEA. That means that when the left says you hate Obama because he's black and ignores the criticisms of his policy to transform America, his background of associations with America-hating communists, the news will keep pushing the racist bit. The left wins in the opinion-forming industry. This is what wins elections.

When G.W. Bush was in office, remember the news media would report daily the number of U.S. military members killed in action. Now that Obama is in office...when was the last time you heard about this? The left wins opinions. The right loses.

The left has determined that America as it was founded and as it has always been must be destroyed to usher in something different. Even if Obama loses the election, the left will never stop with this agenda. They will keep coming back to undermine American superiority.

You should have been paying more attention decades ago.

Shandril,

Freedom of Speech doesn't come to a screeching halt just because twelve people died in a mass shooting.

I'm sure it's already been calmly explained upteenth times in the above thread, BUT-- THIS STORY HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH "FREEDOM OF SPEECH". A CONSTITUTIONAL ISSUE IT IS NOT. IT'S SIMPLY A STORY OF OTHERS REACTING(EXERCISING THEIR OWN "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" IF YOU WILL) TO THE WORDS AND MESSAGE OF ANOTHER, EVEN IF MOSTLY UNFAVORABLE.

UNDERSTAND THE DISTINCTION?

Insensitive, disgusting and dis-respectful. Whether you like Obama or not. Whether you think he has done a good job or not. This crosses the line on levels that can't even be counted.

The thing about this entire "I like" or "I hate" the president mentality never ceases to amaze me. There is nothing wrong with speaking your mind, or holding a peaceful demonstration if you don't agree with something. But with most elections reporting only 20-30 % of the eligible voters showing up at the polls, it seems to me that is where the problem, the BIG problem is. The election is not going to be decided on a news blog. It is not going to be decided at the coffee shop or the gas station. It is going to be decided at the polls. So it stands to reason the 70-80% of the people on here moaning about how awful things are, need to get out of bed, leave work early, or whatever they have to give up for 15 minutes, and get to the polls. EVERY election. Not just his one. They have early voting, absentee voting, so unless you have an emergency the day of the election, there should be no excuse for not getting out and voting. None. You know when it is. Find out where, too, if you don't know and drive your angry self down and make your voices heard that way. This ignorant back and forth on a blog is not solving anything, except momentarily making someone feel cool or better than someone else. Especially when they remain anonymous and spew forth hatred and dis-respect.

Then remember, whomever wins, unless they break the law, deserves the same respect the four years they are in. If we get back to respecting our leaders then a lot of problems can be solved. When we have in-fighting and dis-respect for each others opinions and do not work together, that is when we end up in the shape we are in. If they don't do the job, vote them out. I and most of the 20-30 % that do show up at the polls are not going to vote for a certain person based on a hate filled post that someone left on a news blog on a Saturday morning, sitting on their bed in their underwear feeling sorry for themselves. GO VOTE!

117 comments on this first comment alone and for all the nasty left vs. right political comments, no one has yet to address the fact that the billboard makes a damn good point.

How many people have died under Obama's watch as commander-in-chief of the military forces of the United States....? How many Afganis have actually attacked the United States....? How many Libyans attacked the United States? How many Iraqis attacked the United States....?

Obama's foreign policy is the same as GWB's...American Imperialism. What makes it even more egregious is that he spent years campaigning against it around the world, promising to end it.

But, hey....let's not let a little thing like facts get in the way of a bunch of faux outrage about a billboard.

First of all I would like to say that as a mother of a murdered child, this guy (or group) is/are heartless bastards. How dare you use this horrible event for your political gain. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO DO THIS!!!!!. Oh yeah , I forgot we are talking about White Supremacist & Neo Nazi country. They never get thier facts right before they act and they don't care one bit about who they hurt . I grew up in the Northwest so I can say this.

They love taking events like this to start spewing their hatred and biggotry, thats what they live for. If you were in any other counrty you would be arrested for treason and given whatever their punishment for the crime is. It amazes me how DISRESPECTFUL people in this country are to our President. It doesn't matter if you agree with him or not , but he is our President so show some respect.

As for the Iraq & Afgan war, President Obama didn't start the wars, the baffoon Bush did. He did it for nothing more than revenge for his father , & to try and finish what his father couldn't.

LEAVE THE VICTIMS OF THE AURORA SHOOTING OUT OF YOUR POLITICAL AGENDAS! THEY HAVE ENOUGH TO DO DEAL WITH ALREADY. THEY HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH AND WILL HAVE MORE HEARTACHE TO COME . SO AGAIN I AM SAYING TO LEAVE THEM ALONE AND OUT OF YOUR PREJUDICES.

First of all for all you clueless liberal Democrats out there, these people are Libertarians, which are FAR from conservative Republicans as it were. The only thing "conservative" about Libertarians is their fiscal and minimal government beliefs. Otherwise they are as true blue liberal Democrat in social policy as one can get as well as being anti-war and anti-military/anti-defense in general. Anyone not notice the LIB in Libertarian?

Now we have some liberal heroes here that are trying to say Obama's record is great. Let's look at that:

More people on government assistance like food stamps today than when Obama took office.
More people in "poverty" today than when Obama took office.

More people in long term unemployment today than when Obama took office.
Gas prices up 45% since Obama took office (remember when that was always Bush's fault?).

Food prices up 15-25% since Obama took office (and going higher).
Energy prices/power bills up 10-15% since Obama took office (killing coal makes us all pay, poor and rich alike).

JP Morgan has readjusted Q2 2012 GDP growth down from 1.7% to 1.4% and Q3 to 1.5% with 2012 on a whole forecast to be at 1.7% (Reagan oversaw an average 5.7% GDP growth over 12 quarters after the Carter disaster).

There are 2.2 million fewer jobs than when Obama took office, PERMANENTLY (and Obama's jobs council has been MIA for half a month - laser like focus, eh (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0712/78637.html)?

An $843 billion dollar "stimulus" bill signed in 2009 by Obama and promised by Democrats such as Joe Biden to keep unemployment from going above 8% and by Obama himself to create millions of "shovel ready" and "Green energy" jobs that never materialized (for you Obama voters, that's roughly the same amount of money spent in Iraq - that DEMOCRATS voted for - since 2003).

The Obama administration distributed $9 billion in economic "stimulus" funds to solar and wind projects in 2009-11 that created, as the end result, 910 "direct" jobs -- annual operation and maintenance positions -- meaning that it cost about $9.8 million to establish each of those long-term jobs. That's government creating jobs, folks, that Democrats tell us works!

Obama's latest idiotic gaffe off the teleprompter stating that business owners on their businesses "didn't really create that, someone else did it" has set a firestorm off with entrepreneurs. And the liberal Democrats (and the liberal main stream media doing the Democrat/liberal/Obama water carrying). And then mindlessly backpedaling and attempting to state that he meant roads, bridges, firefighters, and the usual straw man of government that liberals regurgitate is a failed desperate measure at damage control. Yeah well I guess if my parents didn't have SEX then I wouldn't have created my business either! Idiots. America got a real look into the Obama mind with that, and America will respond in November.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday filled with hate, liberals!

7-19-12 Romney's repubs just blocked the bill that would end getting tax breaks for companies taking American jobs overseas. In effect, repubs continued giving Bain more tax payer money, which then is paid to Romney.

You the tax payer just gave away tax money to Romney. While at the same time paying for Americans to lose more jobs that will continue going over seas.

What better way to make all the concensus think Idaho is back wood hillbilly, full of Militia, and towns full of KKK. Keep thinking that. I hope all you hate filled liberals keep away from Idaho. At least we don't have mass shootings or killings every weekend like in @!$%#cago (Chicago), NYC, etc. You educated liberal a-holes need to keep your distance and stay where you are at.

BTW Why are our troops still in Raghead land getting killed on a daily basis? You libs are so much smarter than us Idahoans. Just a question????

Flex.....Soldiers still in Afghanistan because Bush pulled out all the extra resources he put there to capture Bin Laden. You know the guy that Bush let get away. The guy Bush was no longer thinking about or worried about? Yeah, that guy that President Obama and U.S. soldiers killed. Yep Bush pulled out all the support put in Afghanistan to attack Iraq with the lie to the nation war he planned. Pulled out supplies, troops and stranded them in Afghanistan to fend for themselves making that country worse. As Usual, the dems and Obama are cleaning up the mess and making a safe exit in the future. Another republican blunder being cleaned up again. Another war unfunded by republicans.

No matter what the nation still loves your potatoes!

More republican leadership examples. Romney hires 17 of 24 of his advisers from Bush Cheney team of destruction. Why would the nation want to go through that all over again?

The night Hurricane Katrina hit shore, with all those people dying and losing their homes and everything they owned, pres. Bush went to John McCain's birthday party. Bush gave his most important speech of his life, it went,"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Johnnie, Happy birthday to you! Oh boy cake and ice cream!"

Pointing fingers at the "other side" is so juvenile.
The issue here is that people can put up such a disgusting billboard and others actually defend it as "free speech".

And exactly how many people have been killed in Iraq under the foreign policy of the Bush Administration, American lives and innocent Iraqi civilians in a "war" invasion based upon an entire contrived presumption by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld? Oh....I guess Bush wins. starsailing - you're right. Our nations President sat in front of a television set and watched 'his' American people die in our own country, then went off to celebrate a birthday party and call the Sec. of State on vacation the next morning in New York to ask "what she thought the administration should do". Don't know what Ms. Rice's advice was...but history shows us they did nothing at that point, while our nation was losing a City.

Freedom of speech is one thing....but stupid will always be stupid. And the freedom the constitution guarantees each of us, the right to say, print, and express even the most ridiculous or malicious things doesn't make it truth, fact, or tolerable.

It's always been said, every president has to have his war, and after all, warring is mass murder. How many were murdered in Iraq and Afghanistan? How many of our young kids died in these wars? How many children and young people die in car accidents every year. It would appear, the automobile is a rapacious assault weapon, but no one is assailing these weapons of murder.

For the record, I think the billboard is tacky and in bad taste. At the same time, I agree with the sentiment of the message. Obama promised to end these wars; instead, he sent more troops into Afghanistan and violated the Constitution with that NDAA bill. A few months ago, a Marine I know got his legs blown off by an IED in Afghanistan. The guy is only 26. So if anyone is expecting me to defend Obama's image here, it ain't gonna happen. I hope the Nobel Prize committee is soiling its collective pants right now. What an outrage.

Hate is a strong word that people place on others. Most do not know the true meaning or have not really experienced it. They think they have.

As for Obama, the fool has had 3 and half years to improve this economy and all he is doing is moving the country to socialism. And the blame still goes to the past President. All he had to do was leave the economy alone and it would have improved. That is fact from the past. Instead he maintained the wars he "hated" and complained about, he tacked on trillions of debt and diluted the currency, and set up more social programs ... tell me, if the senior population is to outpace the new generations, who the hell is going to pay for all of this social horsecrap that fool put into law ... and did so with extreme partisanship ... something he campaigned against.

    Alex cali...

Still missing the mark I see by going back to proposed budgets and attempting spin. You do realize that obamas signiture is on the 2009 ARRA don't you? That the American recovery and reinvestment act has been estimated at between $787 billion at its time of passage and maybe as much as $831 billion thru perhaps 2019. Somehow I think that the democrats have already blown thru that $800 billion because the assumptions they used never did come to pass.

Since we are still running a deficit, perhaps you can explain to us where obama hid that money to be used thru 2019? Is it invested in equities? US treasuries? His buds? Where?

The bottom line is that what the Department of treasury says is our national debt at the end of each FY is part of the debt for that administration with adjustments required for exogenous events occurring in the FY's when the administration ends and a different administration starts.

If you want to keep trying to use smoke and mirrors to sell your dope our national debt numbers will continue to expose you for who you really are, someone who can't cut to the chase and connect the dots.

I'm so upset over a poster like that. It's not even worth my brilliant energy to reply. All I will say is MSNBC needs to have a button to push to open up all the comments which were "collapsed by the community" at the same time. The "collapsed by the community" means that MSNBC's management didn't like it. What? Do they think we are stupid to believe that their own conservative politicial beliefs do not influence the comments they collapse and "hush up?" I went through hundreds of posts which were collapsed and only about 10% are offensive enough to be collapsed even though I wouldn't collapse them anyway. I'm about two more articles from stopping from commenting and supporting them because of MSNBC. They suck and the worst thing to do is to censor appropriate and necessary comments because you just don't like them. You are a re"pig"lican and "con"servative. Here piggy piggy piggy pig. You are a piggy piggy piggy pig. I hate the pigs in this world. All they do is snort and try to eat whatever they can. They are annoying and absolutely disgusting. They make me sick and want to vomit. They will probably even censor this post. I don't even care at this point. Just for me to write all this stuff down and press "post comment" is cathartic enough for me. I don't need any validation from anyone that I am a genius and that the re"pig"licans are just a bunch of liers and haters who deserve to be in Russia or China for their commie ways. All the repiglicans want is for our government to control every aspect of our lives and to take away our basic rights. They are absolute fascist hypocrites. They say they want to help but are too stupid to know that they just screw everything up. I think that is the definition of a Jerk. Yes, repiglicans are jerks. Pure and simple. Besides using the words idiot, moron, lier, hyposcrite, low life, racist, sexist, ageist, prejudist, hater, dumb, irresponsible, all the swear words you can think of, and scrotum, repiglicans are the virus of this nation. We are infected. We need some repiglican spray to oust the commies and connies ("con"servative).

Does anyone else know of a forum of articles which allows readers to comment like this? I think I want to stop supporting MSNBC. They are a horrible agency and need better management to handle the controversy like these topics bring up. They just don't know how to deal with the debates and the arguing (because the pigs don't debate, they argue without evidence and proof of their argument).

P.S. do you remember "W"orst ever. That is because repiglicans have evolved over the years into people like Palin, Romney, and Bush (all of them). If I was a pig, I would be very upset at the people who are leading my party. Those are horrible and awful people. Are you kidding me? They are just pure hatred and evil. We were living in hell when a pig is president. I just hate that it takes 8 years for a democratic president and government to fix what the pigs messed up. What a waste of money and time? Your pigs are totally unqualified to be president and even a member of congress. Good thing a politician does not have to pass a psychological test. All they have to do is get the support of the current idiots who support the pigs and then try to brainwash the others.

I love America. I think I could do a great job as President. First line of business, get rid of the repiglican party. Nothing else will matter until that is accomplished. Second, get rid of all the "con"servatives in the government. It will be like living in heaven. You know you are smiling when you can think about a time that no pigs can serve in politics and government in the US. 90% of what comes out of them is lies anyway. We don't know what to believe from them because they are so secretive, especially about their money, which usually comes from illegal and awful operations and companies and other evil ways. No wonder they are so quiet about where their money comes from. It shows really what they believe in. You cannot be a good and great president of the US and make your money and career from other countries, drugs, and terrorism. We will finally be able to get things done and accomplish things instead of the pigs with the negative attitudes. Really, what are the pigs good for? All they do is slow down and stop our process from fixing our problems and dealing with our problems.

Republicans are really paranoid................and naive.........and truly do believe every word that comes out of republican mouths---whether it is true or not is irrelevant to them...guess they are too lazy to look up and see what the truth is. Or, maybe they just can't come to grips with the fact that their own party really is apathetic to the 98% and really does want all the 98% work themselves to death and gain nothing so the rich and richer can get rich and richer..........some folks really can't deal with reality.

Not to worry.......the democrats are here to save the day...and we include republicans in that scenario, where as republicans would likely wish all democrats a painful demise. Sad really.........we are all in this together but only half of us realize it.

Typical Republican hypocritical amnesia and fake bravado:

It was Bu@!$%# who put the troops into Afghanistan, which war President Obama inherited.

("Insensitive"? Right: offend US murder victims in order to not-offend US troops. Is this the "prominent conservative" who blamed the Aurora murder victims for not taking Holmes down, despite the all-body protective gear?)

But no mention of the fact that Bu@!$%# also illegally invaded and occupied the sovereign nation of Iraq, based upon known lies, and there not only lowered the US to the moral level of Saddam "Torturer-in-Chief" Hussein, in violation of international and US law, but also killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and maimed and killed tens of thousands of US troops. 'Course, being Republican/"Libertarian," the Iraqis don't matter (neither, of course, do the Aurora victims) because insufficiently white.

Chalk it up to the fact that Republicans/"Libertarians" never serve in uniform, because too busy starting unnecessary wars and sending others to fight and die in them.

It's amazing the lack of moral awareness and insight of these wingnut moral-highgrounders: hate is immoral, even as the first person damaged by it is the hater.

This shouldn't hurt President Obama in re-election; but Mitt "Expert-on-Olympics-at-Taxpayer-Expense" Rmoney, when asked about it, will flip-flop until he finds something meaningless and non-commital that doesn't offend his extremist "base" of politically retarded racist anti-American teadupes.

So where are the sources that your referenced author used in his hindsite is 20/20 analysis?

          I recall the events where saddam actually used WMD's . . . .

          _____

The honest remember the WHOLE fact:

          1. When Saddam Hussein ALLEGEDLY "gassed his own people"*, the president was Pappy Bu@!$%#, who said not a word against it, and did nothing about it.

          _____

*Saddam Hussein was a Sunni. Those against whom he allegedly used WMDs were Kurds and or Iranians, who were NOT "his own people". Sunnis and Kurds (and Iranians) are different tribes.

          _____

          2. The WMDs were given saddam Hussein by Reagan, who first removed Iraq from the US's "Rogue Terrorist State" list so it would be "legal" to do so.**

          _____

**I recall my favorite TeeVee moment of all time, when President Reagan, wearing his suit jacket, looked away from his teleprompter, directly into the camera, waggled his finger, and declared:

"I never had sex with those Iranian terrorists to whom I illegally gave the Stinger missiles in violation of the Trading with the Enemy Act."

          _____

          3. IF Hussein "gassed his own people," it was in response to the rising up of the Shi'a against Hussein, which Pappy Bu@!$%# suggested and encouraged, and to whom he promised backing. When they rose up, Pappy Bu@!$%# was a no-show, Saddam Hussein acted in defense of his gov't, and thus resulted the mass graves -- which mass graves would not have existed had Bu@!$%# either kept his word, or kept his mouth shut.

          4. Beginning with President Clinton, the UN inspectors, including US Marine Scott Ritter, were on the ground in Iraq for eight years by the time G. DUI Bu@!$%# made his knowingly-false WMD allegations against Saddam Hussein. During those eight years, the inspectors located and destroyed alll existing WMDs.

And we all recall what happened next:

          1. Bu@!$%# falsely claimed that Hussein wouldn't let the inspectors into Iraq -- in fact, they were in Iraq, on the ground, and had been for eight years; then,

          2. Bu@!$%# told the inspectors to get out of Iraq because "the bombs are gonna fall"; then,

          3. Bu@!$%# accused Hussein of throwing the inspectors out.

If the truth shall set one free, and the US is about freedom, then it is imperative that we tell the truth to and about ourselves. Those who falsify the history are liars who encourage and support tyranny, which always stands on chains of lies.

JNagarya, President Obama's foreign policy is almost identical to Bu@!$%#. What is your not so clever derogatory name for Obama? You are the least informed person I have encountered on the vine to date. Your absolute claim that Republicans want same sex marriage and to legalize drugs is very unique. You are so incoherent it is hard to tell where you stand. I'm sure you despise successful people for your own failure.

War crimes perpetrators are obviously the most awful and hurtful especially for profiteering reason to benefits a few. This stupid war they're raging,by using the fear worst and by lying to its citizen and the world society, it seems that, this war crimes really trickle down, becoming the hate crimes, across the states are the worst kinds of crimes.

This is because hate crimes seem to say much about its citizens and hate crimes attack the moral fiber of mankind. Hate crimes are not random in my opinion because the reasons that people who perpetrate hate crimes seem to seek out a particular group of persons to attack. This is what we see again in Idaho.

Well JNagarya, if you're an example of what the left represents I'll have to say no thanks. So I think I would be correct in assessing you as "far left lunatic fringe," would I not? I find it somewhat laughable that you find "far-right lunatic fringe," a legitimate political label, so I'm sure that you can take no offense to my labeling you as also being in the lunatic category.

Patrick, I would have to agree that JN is very uninformed.

What im saying in regard to the 2009 ARRA is that in the 2009 Bush budget Obama only added 187 for ARRA nothing else. So that means that Bush had a spending of 3.330 trillion dollars for 2009 and Obama added 187 billion for ARRA. Thats all!!!

Ok Obama has turned in a budget for 2010, 2011, and 2012. We get the 2013 budget in October.

Are you going to tell me that now because you republicans say it its so..... Obama will have 5 budgets in hes first term?? Huh!! does the constitution allow that?

We know Bush requested 3.1 trillion right???

Did he add the war spending in there for that years budget or was it going to go directly to the debt?

The problem is that the supplemental appropriations process has been extended beyond unforeseen emergencies to entirely foreseeable (and foreseen) non-emergencies. Over the past several years, the most obvious example has been funding for the Iraq War, most of which has been funded, directly or indirectly, “off budget,” as the process is sometimes referred to. It has also been accomplished without offsets.

Why has this been the case? The major reason is that it obscures the amount of federal spending generally and for specific purposes, if it is the desire of any administration to do so. Supplemental appropriations spending does not appear in the annual accounting of federal spending versus revenue collections, meaning it is not calculated into the federal deficit for any given year. The money is spent just like regular budgetary allocations, but when the books are closed, it does not appear as an inflationary impact on federal deficits. This alone made it a particularly attractive device for a Bush administration that was running up record deficits without the impact of supplementals. It also made the cost of the Iraq War and defense spending generally appear much more modest than it in fact was. Moreover, the Bush administration generally provided no offsetting reductions to moderate the impact. Finally, supplementals generally receive nowhere near the public scrutiny of the regular budget, making them an attractive device for in effect hiding potentially controversial expenditures of public funds. Iraq certainly qualifies in that regard.

It does not have to be included Bush made sure of that.

The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have been funded through emergency spending requests since they began.

"Somehow" Yeah right!! now you are going to speculate on how the money is being spent? Thats why Obama setup the American recovery website you should maybe read it a little. instead of "somehow"

There are no smoke and mirrors its simple math. The only reason you guys are desperately trying to pin the 2009 budget on Obama is because it makes him look like a big spender. You have people on here who claim that Bush left a 400 billion deficit and that as soon as Obama came in the deficit jumped to 1.4 trillion. You people are wrong. The only reason i bring ARRA into this is because many people like you think that Obama spent the full amount of ARRA in 2009 and that's why he added an extra 1 trillion dollars to the deficit.

The biggest reason the deficit went so high in 2009 is because in 2008 the total inlays for that year were estimated at around 2.7 trillion and it was 2.1 trillion a total of more than 600 billion dollars lost in revenue.

            600 billion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DUDE, i could go on and on with this i got many more links and facts that will prove to you why we have all this debt and deficits so high. And they all prove what BUSH did to our country.

And now you guys want to get Romney in there and use the Ryan Plan as hes way to fix our economic problems. How old are you? are you sure you want the Ryan plan? There are many ways to fix our debt and the Ryan plan aint one of them.

Bad taste? Maybe, but the left has been slinging mud, name calling, disrespect and lies for years. Frankly, I'm glad to see someone on the right step up and give some of it back. Funny how they whine and cry when their tactics are turned around on them. Beside, it's the truth. How many more nations will collapse into civil war because of Obama's legitimizing of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The chemical weapons were in Iraq. They were used against the Iranians and the Kurds. Some of you people should turn off CNN and pay some attention to history. Maybe they were sent to Syria before the war. Lo and behold, Syria has a stockpile of chemical weapons it is threatening the rebels with.

A friend of mine brought up a good point the other night. As he said, "We in this country are outraged when we read about a mother or father who kills their children, but when we bomb a city overseas and it kills a group of children, we call it patriotic and hold parades for it and profess how great this country is". Can it get any more pathetic than that? Not really! That is called brainwashing. Our government tells us how justified we are to go over seas to fight terrorism, but, you have to ask yourself, isn't it one thing to kill those who ARE terrorists, and another thing to kill those who ARE innocent? We see ourselves as the policemen of the world, but, we have to stop and think of one thing, when our policemen here kills someone innocent, we are outraged about it, but when our policemen kills someone innocent over in another country, where is that same outrage? And when those who ARE innocent over there get pissed at us for killing innocent people there, we think of them as being hateful towards us, as though they don't have any right to question our motives. But then again, when someone brings up these facts, they are brow beaten, and told if they don't like it, leave the country. Well, it works both ways, some may have the right to voice that opinion about wanting others to leave, in the same regard, those people they want to leave has every right to stay and voice their opinion also. Why the double standard folks? Ask yourselves that question. Also, ask yourselves why it's not ok for one political party to question our governments actions and motives when they are not the controlling party, and then when it's the other way around, it's quite ok to question the government? Again, it's called a double standard folks.

you will then see some comments show up as "restored" a few disappear completely, and offending posters suspended or banned.

Answer this then... Why does FoxNews have the highest ratings of any news channel? By a large amount. Where is CNN and MSNBC? Rock bottom. Why, because they don't report the real news, they report what they think they should air.

Fox News.... We Report, you decide.

Navyreitired, by your logic McDonald's ratings prove it has the best food in the country.

Sarah Palin proved that if you can articulate the frustration, the anger, and the stupidity of the stupid and inarticulate, you can make 4 million dollars in a year. Limblow proves that if you can do that REAL LOUD you can make millions year after year.

You should not be proud to be one of the ingnorati that the wealthy and their lickspittles can poke and make jump whenever they want.

They forget because the hate radio icons want the dittoheads to forget and now there's a new "Anti-Christ" to hate. He's got a different skin color, he's a Young Turk (or a Young Punk, he's from Generation X!), he's got a strange (as in non-European) name, and more. All the prejudices, esp. race are in effect but they try to mask all that with rumors, fibs and labels which meanings they know not. Why did this "Tea Party" occupation break out during Obama's first week in office? Because Glenn Beck TOLD THEM TO! They all use the labels and lies but the real problem is that there's a "different" and "strange" man in the WH and they AIN'T MATURE ENOUGH TO ACCEPT IT. They ain't mature enough to admit this so they cloak it with bull@!$%#.

NavyRetired2003: Answer this then... Why does FoxNews have the highest ratings of any news channel?

Because it's the ONLY GAME ON TV for Right Wing "News". It's where all the Right Wing loons in this country go for their propaganda. They must be told how to think by Only One Source.

There are several Middle-Ground and Left news networks. They split their audiences. The rest of the country doesn't want just One Source of News. They want several.

The RIGHT in this country is brainwashed, they can't think for themselves, they are ruled by one conduit of information. And nobody is surprised by this at all.

THAT is why Faux has high ratings.

Navy are you kidding me? Fox new viewers are less informed than people that watch no news. Fox keeps you stupid for a reason, easier to control. If you really think Fox is giving you straight news, you really need to do some research. The reason for the high ratings is simple, rwnj's only have fox to watch, no other news station will feed them their hate daily. This country is equally divided, the left side has several news outlets to get the real news from, the right only has Fox.

I can answer your Fox News question. It is because they bought up a bunch of small stations around the country. Places that only had one or two stations to begin with. The numbers are actually artificially inflated to look like they are doing better than everyone else, but if you look at the number of stations that each Major market holder has, you will see that the other major players have stations in metropolitan and urban areas and not so much in the smaller markets. Fox on the other hand has stations in the big markets, but they also have a huge amount of stations in the smaller markets.

It is the same thing that they do with radio, they have a HUGE amount of stations in the am market, which is why Rush looks like he does better than he actually does.

Sorry to bust your bubble. Sister works for the FCC and oh boy oh boy the stories that she could tell you about the manipulation of station numbers, how they make it look like it is doing one thing when in actuality it is just doing average. When you have no competition in the smaller markets and you merge those numbers with steady 3 or 4 place in the big markets, it looks like you are doing great, when you are NOT!

No, punkin. Please try a course in reading comprehension. I was trying to explain the simple concept of KARMA. People usually get back whatever they send out or dish out to others.

When you hate people long enough, they will probably tend to hate you right back. It's not the greatest situation, but it is human nature. It isn't my excuse. It's a reasonable expectation given the circumstances.

So, now you can go whine to someone else.

"Asked about the reaction to his billboard, Clements acknowledged: "That's a technique of trying to make a point, and maybe it was poorly done."

That seems to be the continual pattern of the Republicans nowadays. They simply have no concept of doing something constructively with their ideas, money, leadership, etc. , etc.

I have a question...especially for Whistleberries and starsailing:

Why is it when someone says anything against President Obama that you both INSTANTLY scream racism? Why is someone who disagrees with his policies a racist or someone who hates someone of color or someone who is a moron because they are prejudiced? Is that all you have to fall back on in an argument? Because quite frankly, it shows you lacking. i do not agree with many of his policies in the way they are presented- it doesn't make me a racist or a Republican. I didn't agree with all of President Bush's policies either-it didn't make me a Democrat or anti-white. If that is all you can say- and you say it a lot- then you obviously are only voting for one reason- the color of the President's skin. That makes you, in my opinion, just as much a racist.

I cannot fathom how any of the people on these boards- both Republicans and Democrats-can have healthy friendships in their personal lives away fom the computer screen if you truly say the same things in real life that you so bravely say on these boards. I think that many of you are truly meek in person and the computer makes you brave enough to spout your mouth off without being called out in person.

Romney and repubs have no plan...except to take the economy down as they pledged.

The first economic plan from the republicans ...was to blow up the economy so president Obama would not have a second term. Newt said it was the first seed sown for the 2012 election. 14-15 republicans secretly met the day after Obama took office to pledge to vote against every bill that would help the economy recover. They pledged this saying they wanted him to be a one term president. They pledged to take the economy down just to destroy the presidents plans for recovery. Bin Laden wrote down the same plan and executed 911 to take the economy down to destroy the nation. These repubs, Ryan, Cantor, DeMint, and Gingrich pledged to act like the Taliban, to act like the insurgents do,(their own actual words) to prevent President Obama from a second term. Acting like the supreme terrorist of all time Bin Laden. Traitors. Deliberately sabotaging the recovery. Ref Richard draper new book.

Ryan repub Plan...Kills social security and medicare. Repubs want to destroy the Post Office and privatize that also.......Take down America and give more tax breaks to the rich 1%. Romney for a worse tomorrow today!.

Otherwise, attacks within America would have continued. that is the job of the military, to protect the people at home but going after the threat.

We can all debate this but fact is Obama had 3 1/2 years to bring them home. Do not blame Bush for that lack of action on Obama's part.

However, it was necessary when Bush sent them.

It was necessary for Bush, Cheney and Halliburton to make billions off of the backs of the American people and to sink our country into the deepest recession it's been in since the Great Depression? There were no WMD's in Iraq. Bush lied about that, remember? Iraq was not involved with 9/11. Bush started a war with the wrong country! If that doesn't tell you that there was more going on than meets the eye, I don't know what can. For anyone who buys everything Bush told them hook, line and sinker - I've got some great land in Florida to sell you.

Obama has been trying to bring the troops home throughout his presidency. My feeling is that Bush and buddies signed a 10- to 12-year contract with Halliburton, et.al., that made it impossible to pull out of the war right away like Obama wanted to. I don't know if people remember but, at the beginning of his bid for presidency, Obama talked about how he wanted to bring the troops home ASAP. Then, he had a closed door meeting with Bush and came out of that meeting changing his tune a little bit, saying that we would pull the troops out as soon as we could. Not to sound as paranoid as that Buddy dude, but my feeling is that he learned about some sort of contract in that meeting. So, yes, I do blame Bush for this. I blame Bush for getting us into this mess in the first place. And, no, I do not believe for one minute that it was *necessary* to start a war in Iraq.

CHZHEAD.....I see YOU are meek and hiding behind your computer. Try reading all the collapsed posts and see nothing but racists remarks throughout the posts. You just did the same thing you whined about.

I deal with facts not fox news talking points paid for by billionaires and millionaires like the rt wingers. Many people posting have not seen any of the facts I posted because they watch only fox news. These same people when confronted with facts cannot process the info because they are not used to facts. Once again I remind people to do search on...fox news dumber....see actual studies that prove people are dumber for watching fox news.

During the 2010 election teabaggers got away with being jerks with racist pictures, remarks, and actions while Dems continued to be polite and acting with calm and reason. Well to hell with that this time. Every time repubs or rt wingers lie, we now call them out on it asap. Obama bent over backwards trying to compromise with repubs who pledged to take the economy down to make him a one term president.

When YOU LIE, we will call you out on it. Get informed or get out of the way, this nation is going forward.

@Joyce Otway 58 thousand killed in Vietnam thanks to JFK.

                                      _____

Another methacocajuana-smoking "Libertarian" history illiterate pops off.

The US was allied with France during and after WWII. France had colonized Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam at the turn of the century, renaming them "Indochina".

After WWII, the US, under Truman, continued to support France's war in Indochina, with money and military materiale, against those who actually belonged there, pushed into it by extreme right-wing REPUBLICAN lunatic fringers such as Joe McCarthy.

That continued under REPUBLICAN Eisenhower -- who was also called "Commie-ist" by extreme right-wing REPUBLICAN lunatic fringer Joe McCarthy.

When the French were blown out at Dien Bien Phu, the US began replacing France's military with the US military, the first being sent in by Eisenhower.

JFK inherited that history and military involvement, as would LBJ and Nixon.

Shut up until you learn the actual history, instead of taking ignorant pot-shots at a person not able to defend himself, and subjected to relentless extreme right-wing smear attacks since being assassinated.

Ummmm mikeritter, Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy sent 'advisers' to assist the Southern Republic of Vietnam against Ho Chi Minh and the north in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s and into the early 1960s. The US provided about 80% of the supplies the French were using in the war against Ho Chi Minh. Kennedy was going to call it all off when he was assassinated, then Johnson took over and escalated it on a huge scale till 1966, and 'Tricky' Dick started the downturn of the war. Gerald Ford ended the war due to him cutting off all aid to South Vietnam and pulling out the last of the troops in 1975. When DID President Kennedy die, now? 1963? Truman and the US freaked out after China fell to the communists in 1949. Suddenly, Vietnam was important to the Pacific region.

BTW, how about President Reagan's secret acts of war which sent troops into El Salvador as a guise to overthrow that government, how well did that debacle go, do YOU remember?

Mikey...I posted how Nixon blew up LBJ peace agreement to get elected in 1968 above. FACT! All Viet Nam deaths from that day forward to end of war is blood on the hands of NIXON. Reference LBJ tapes to repub Sen Dirksen. LBJ did not expose Nixon as there would have been riots from coast to coast. View transcripts on line.

@Starsailing.... Youre an idiot. Talk about people knowing their facts. Did YOU know that democrats have had control of the government since 2006? The last 2 years of the Bush presidency they had the majority vote in both the house and senate? Also did you know that this secret meeting republicans had as soon as Obama was elected to vote against everything would have made absolutely no difference whatsoever? Democrats had the executive branch the house and senate majority and idiots like you still post things stating that nothing has gotten better because republicans plotted to vote against everything Obama tried to do to repair the economy. Nevermond the fact that Obama himself has put not one bill on the board himself to repair the economy. The ONLY things Obama himself has inspired is items which cost money to an already bloated federal budget. You my friend are an idiot and the problem with this country. Not the solution.

That seems to be the continual pattern of the Republicans nowadays. They simply have no concept of doing something constructively with their ideas, money, leadership, etc. , etc.

The sign has nothing to do with Republicans, it is a Libertarian group who although agrees with some Republican issues such as less government, and less taxes, they also agree with Democrats on some issues like, gay marriage, and Bringing troops home now. If anything you would have to say this sign is an anti war sign which Republicans don't do. This is a classic Democrat talking pont from the Bush / Cheney years, most of you are just offended it is now being used against your guy.

@J. Jangarya: Your comment to Joyce, "shut up until you learn the actual history etc." You are correct in stating the U.S. were allies to France however you refrain from mentioning; it was only until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour and Hitler declared war on the United States, did they enter World War II. Reason being, up to that point the United States were profiting by supplying arms to Europe and its allies. With no disrespect for those who serve in your Military (past or present) the truth of the matter is, not much has really changed as the U.S. is still profiting from war and the reason why you cannot and will not bring ALL your troops home is called economics.

As far as the Billboard goes, IMO it is very distasteful and insensitive and is just another example of how freedom of speech and expression is out of control!

Tn....State your source......your name calling does nothing to promote your comments. Like anyone give a rats behind about President Obama's father being a goat herder or not. I am laughing so hard at you right now.....not with you.

Jason...you clearly do not know your history and have no sources for your errors posted. Repubs have created record obstruction with filibusters deliberately trying to obstruct any bills that would show positive President Obama's image. Try keeping up with current events Jason, it would be very useful in your education. ALL repub leaders, McConnell, Ryan, Cantor, Boehner have all said in one way or another their number one job was to make President Obama a one term president. Guess you have been sleeping or following world events on Mars. Watching fox news will not provide you with any correct info. Try doing search on President Obama's accomplishments.......for all the bills passed. I don't need to hold your hand through that process do I?

Repubs even blocked voting to give health care benifits to 911 first responders for years. Wrapping themselves up in the flag and taking photo ops with every fireman, EMT, and cop they could get in front of the camera. While these brave people are slowly dying and being sick from that event, repubs denied them healthcare until John Stewart exposed repubs to make them pass the bill the very next day. Those who pledged against Obama to obstruct still voted against the responders.

7-19-12 repubs obstructed bill to stop the tax breaks to companies taking jobs overseas, they obstructed in the same bill giving companies a 20% tax break for companies bringing those jobs back to America. Repubs create voter suppression laws like the one in Maine where they have not had voter fraud for 38 years, and repubs put i place laws to take away voting rights of their voters.

Repubs being anti American to try and make President Obama a one term president.

Vote Obama/Biden and democrats...... stop the repubs from taking down the economy.

No, this one makes a good point, the wars over in the Middle East have cost a lot of lives, and really failed to get the backlash that is called for. I really find this not to be offensive at all. Hate to say it, but by failing to pull out of the Middle East affairs in a timley fashion has made Obama just as guilty as G.W. I for one find nothing wrong with this billboard.

Its one person who advocated the billboard, just one. You lumping an entire state full of people into one neat little insult because of the opinion of one person would be akin to someone saying sick people in Colorado because of what one man did in Aurora.

Chris, I guess you didn't say a word when Bush WENT to war por PERSONAL reasons and killed more than five thousand of our boys and girls and more than a million innocent Irakis.

But of course it's easier to criticize Obama for not getting out of the Middle East, as if he could! But he did ONE thing that war criminal W. didn't do because he didn't care: He got bin Laden, after that inept cowboy put a price on his head "Dead or Alive" and proceeded to forget all about him.

I agree with you right up to "I for one find nothing wrong with this billboard." The country would have ground to a halt if someone had done this when Bush was in office. What the Dixie Chicks did wasn't nearly this offensive and because we "at war" a war Bush and Cheney manufactured to make their fat cat friends rich, they were nearly flayed alive. It's just disrespectful and I'll say it, if the President was white, no would would have the guts. The disrespect shown to this man because of the color of his skin makes this country embarrassing. You have to be one of the most backward, ignorant, primitive people that ever lived to judge someone because their skin is a different color.

That said, I do understand, which many of the posters clearly do not, that we cannot just "pull out" of the mess we made in the middle east. I wish we could but we have to be adult about what we did and take responsibility for at least setting them back on their feet again so they can battle like the primitive tribes they seem to be.

It would be nice if it was over, but anyone who knows even the smallest bit about the area knew when we went in, it would never be that simple.

Idiot. Read the newspaper, if you can read at all, or listen to Fox. Obama has pulled our troops out of Iraq and in the process of leaving Afghanistan.

KKK members,,,..you do know Rove's master plan to divide and conquer the middle class plan worked. Rove and repubs got the repub middle class to hate unions(even though many of them are union members) and got repub middle class to vote against themselves while getting those minions to vote for him and his rich friends.

Imagine that divide and conquer middle class repubs against the other part of the middle class.................TOO FUNNY THEY VOTE AGAINST THEMSELVES !!!! They vote to give the rich 1% more of their money. They vote to end their Social security, they vote to end medicare and medi aid. They vote against keeping the Post office. Teabaggers and repubs think they are billionaires.....!

WELL YOU ARE NOT BILLIONAIRES< YOU ARE MIDDLECLASS PEOPLE. VOTING FOR BILLIONAIRES!

I would also like to point out a historical fact. During the American Civil War rich slave owners conned poor whites into fighting and dying for a cause they had no stake in, SLAVERY. The end result of that conflict was the end of slavery and the end of aristocratic rule in the south. The same result is in the works as I type these words......... The right wing extremists in America WILL be crushed, never to rise again. It will just take some time, but it will happen.

It is the rich who hide 100 bliion each year off shore to avoid paying taxes. It is those rich people who caused the crashing of the economy. It is the rich people who then divide the middle class saying the crash was the cause of them...etc...etc...

Do search on republican voter suppression laws.

You will see repubs creating voter suppression laws all over the country. Alec( American legion economic council) is a group of people from corporations that meet with repubs twice a year to create bills that favor corporations. The repubs get campaign contributions for handing over the prize. Pennsylvania top repub just admitted to getting the voter suppression law passed to give the election to Romney. There was zero voter fraud! Rove /head of repubs commented that if they could get 1% of 9 states not voting they wouuld win the election. Voter suppression to stop you young people from voting because young usually vote democratic because they care more about people.

Do search on student loans low interest.

Repubs were blocking the dems who wanted to keep interest rates low for students. Repubs wanted them higher to keep you out of school. Dems forced them on national tv to vote for their bill. The bill finally unblocked and passed. Some repubs still voted no.

Republicans blocked health care for 911 responders for years until it was exposed on TV last fall. Repubs voted for it the next day, except for the repubs who voted to take the economy down just to make President Obama a one term president. Imagine all those photo ops and wrapping themselves up in the flag while hugging first responders, then telling them to die until exposed on tv.

                                          Vote Democratic party 2012

Thats scarier than the person that put this up!!! I hope you people are smart enough to know that you can't lump all these people to christians, republicans or anti abortions people! Thats scary! You can't just follow along thinking everyone is just like they try to portrait them in the democratic party any more than I want to think all democrats are intollerent of peoples rights! How many people do you think it took to put up this billboard post? It wasn't the republican party! Why would they put themselves out there to be so insensitive? They wouldn't! This was some crazy individual!

I totally agree with you, Moonwolf, and so do the libertarians who put up this billboard.

During the 2010 election teabaggers got away with being jerks with racist pictures, remarks, and actions while Dems continued to be polite and acting with calm and reason

Starsailing, google "Crash the Tea Party". Indeed, there were people at the rallies with racist signs (most of them misspelled), but those same people attend liberal gatherings with anti-white signs that are perfectly spelled.

it was from Apr 26, 2012.

Love how those conservatives in Arizona with their lax gun control have been providing Mexico with guns for years, then the same people in Arizona get pissed when they come back over the border and use them there! Why do they do it?.. $$$$$$$$$$NRA makes a bundle from selling guns and accessories. Then the same people from Arizona scream to the feds to come protect them from the thugs they sold the guns to!......DUH! Then the same people from Arizona scream to get the government out of their lives. Then the same people from Arizona create voter suppression laws costing millions and have to create more government jobs to process voter suppression laws.....Just like a bull that can only walk backwards and always steps in his own B.S.

You're drinking the kool-aide. The true story of Fast and Furious is far more nuanced than what you have stated and the onus falls on the side of Arizona State laws and the NRA.

I would suggest the June 27th article in Fortune Magazine. It gives the true details of the scandal in which it turns out leaves the ATF, Holder, and the administration without a hint of guilt. The whole thing was a political dog and pony show put on by the republicans for whatever reasons you'd like to impugn.

If you armed all the honest citizens of Mexico, we might not have drug cartels and corupt police running the country. Gun control has really worked well for Mexico. If you own a gun and youre caught, you go to prison. If you are a criminal, you start shooting. 60000 dead and counting in Mexico in the last 5 years. I wonder how and law abiding citizen protects himself and his family in Mexico?

The NRA is a bunch of people that believe the same thing. 4 million strong while the brady campaign is a few people >30,000 strong that believe the same thing. Everyone calls the NRA all sorts of things but what they are, a club of people that disagree with them and nothing more.

Cheney just came out now on the news to say Palin was the wrong choice for McCain. ....Why?...Because Romney lost to Palin , who with McCain lost to Obama. Cheney has dumped millions on Romney and given his advisors to Romney, 17 of 24 of Romney's advisors were from Bush Cheney regime. So Cheney sees the link, that Romney wasn't even good enough for McaCain because of who Romney is and his hidden tax records. To build Romney up, Cheney has to tear down Palin.

Funny...ain't it........repubs heads explode over Illegal aliens taking American Job. Well I don't like it either.

The funny part is, repubs complain about union job holders. These union job holders set the bar for wages and benifits across the board for all workers. Yep, wages, vacation, overtime pay, sick pay, healthcare, etc.

So these repubs were talked into hating and trying to destroy their friends, relatives, and neighbor 's union jobs by the rich 1% in order to divide Americans so they can get more profits off the middle class and poor.

Imagine that...repubs are just like the illegal aliens that take away jobs from Americans. They have become the enemy in the instant that they preach hate against their fellow American job holders. Voting against their own self interests. The ol shooting themselves in the foot to spite their nose! Like a bull that only walks backwards and steps in his own B.S.

Kinda funny the way those repubs think huh?

Seems like everyone on the right is totally nutz. They loved Junior and his policies that killed thousands of our young men and wasted trillions on a useless war in Iraq. Now they hate a president who is trying to dig us out of the hole the GOP left us in. But then, what would you expect from science-haters? They can't follow logic.

Lets see - more people died in WW1, WW2 and Vietnam than in the gulf wars - if I remember my history correctly you can thank LBJ for Vietnam.....you can also thank my husband for 2 tours in Vietnam so you can continue to spew your BS about who left us in what war. So before you go blaming anyone - think back a little and look at who starts what when. Dems and the GOP have both put us in wars. I am probably wasting my time even posting this - just go hug a tree or something.

Quit, LBJ was handed Viet Nam from Kennedy, after LBJ it was Tricky Dickie, over 55,000 killed and untold numbers wounded, both physically and emotionally, MIA's still unaccounted for. My Husband had the honor of serving his country for three tours and received 4 purple hearts for his efforts. Regardless of how many of our people are killed in war its still a grievous loss, but a totally fabricated war is reprehensible, unconscionable slaughter. When George Bush took us to war, it was voted on in Congress. Remember Kerry. I voted for it before I voted against it. The Dems had just as much to do with it as the Repubs. I guess you forgot that there are Democrats and Republicans in Congress. Both parties voted for the wars.

                                                Bush lied nation into war.

Repubs crashing peace like traitors to our troops.

Actually, I think the billboard was too soft on Obama! The economic damage he's done will not be unwound for many years. And his trampling of the US Constitution to further his progressive/socialist agenda is putting a stain on this great country that will, in his words, 'fundamentally change America'!

Just listening to his lies and the lies of the old liberal media in his attacks on Romney make me ill! The coward can't even begin to defend his record, so he resorts to 'high school bullying' to distract the country from his dismal record! WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE AMERICA?

I have not had a raise in 5 years, this was going on BEFORE the current POTUS took office. Our company owner took a cut in pay so that we would not have to lay off anyone. The economy was circling the drain long before the President walked through the door. Try to remember when McCain said he had to get back to Washington because of the mess with AIG, and that was in late August, early September of 2008. Election was not until November of 2008 and even after that, the President did not take office until January 20, 2009. So would you like to walk back that statement? How has he "trampled" the constitution? What rights are you being denied right now or in the future? NONE that is what. but the clowns at fox tell you anything and you run looking at the sky with your tin foil hat on and swear that someone is doing something to you.

Lies? LIES?!!! Let's look at the lies that Romney and corporation have been telling.

                                                1. The President says you didn't build that business. What he did say was that you did not build those roads and infrastructure that leads to your business. So NO you did not do it by yourself.

                                                2. The President wants to take away our guns. He has actually passed more laws making it EASIER for you kind to get more guns. So FAIL

                                                3. The President is trying to give us Europeans style government. NOPE, once again he looked at several plans for HEALTHCARE and took the model that the REPUBLICANS were touting and used that as the model for the ACA, So then Republicans lied and this is a sh!tty plan? right?

You know the rest, there is no need for me to go on. What has "fundamentally" changed America is yahoos like you, who have such a hard time keeping your hatred for this President under control.

What is going to happen when he wins again in Nov? I bet your head is going to explode.

AUSTERITY, which is what the European leaders have been doing, and doing badly, AND pissing off their people, is what the GOP wants to do to the U.S. How in the world Republican pundits/commenting sheep keep saying what the Europeans are doing is 'socialism,' but they STILL want it, and blaming President Obama so they can look 'different,' is mind-boggling.

More bottom-of-the-barrel B.S. from scum-sucking bigots who hate their black President so much they will tell any lie and stoop to any depth to discredit him - except that they only discredit themselves. Had enough yet? Then stop voting for repugnant Republicans, and start voting for Democrats representing hard-working, humble Americans. Teachers aren't the enemy, the US auto industry isn't the enemy, and Barack Obama is more man and more intelligent than any of the immoral draft-dodging d-bags that run the GOP. The knuckle-dragging, slack-jawed morons and the war profiteers that make up today's GOP are the true enemies of America, and by God, we will smite the Sons of Bytches in November and forever after.

                                                Seth...

The senate dems passed a bill to continue the lower tax rates for everyone on income under $250K (yes...even if you make $100 million, you would still keep the lower tax rate on the portion of your income under $250K). The bill also brings the capital gains tax rate more in line with the tax rate for wages. But it has no chance int he house because republicans in the house will hold middle class tax cuts hostage to protect the wealthy.

By comparison, republicans who throw fits over the idea of raising taxes have already stated that they intend the Obama tax cuts for the middle class expire. That's not my claim...McConnell has stated that the tax cuts included in the stimulus should be allowed to expire.

So...on one hand, you have the dems who passed a bill to keep lower taxes on the middle class...but the repubs are going to block it because it tax cuts on just their first $250K is not enough for the super wealthy.

On the other hand, you have repubs who will not only sacrifice middle class tax cuts to get more for the wealthy...but they also plan on letting other tax cuts for the middle class expire...despite their claims that they don't want taxes raised on anyone.

I'm not suggesting that all the dems are good...nor am I suggesting that all the repubs are all bad. But if you don;t see a clear difference in who is protecting the middle class, and who is protecting the wealthy...then you are blind.

                                                Romney caught again misleading public.

Romney had a speech set up with we built it sign in background. He had several people at table saying THEY built their business w/out help. OOOPS The guy to the left, took almost 3 million to get his company going,. Guy to right...$41,000 loan to get him going....from the ...GOVERNMENT!....No they didn't build it. OOPS!

UNO....not up to current events huh...don't be such a slacker, try and keep up with the news. Those little businessmen all took money from the gov to get their business going. Like Romney says "It Takes a community" "You didn't get there on your own"

Bruce, you are right on the money. Except for one thing. We are going to lose badly in November. You cannot underestimate how stupid people are. Those on the right ar either stupid, selfish or evil or a combination of all three. And thanks to their teachers on talk radio, there are more and more of them every day. Remember, WE think...they don't. Everything they need is supplied to them by talk radio and their right-wing conservative churchs. Heck, in some of those churches they even give you voter cards already filled out for you. Every name on them has an "R" after it.

Everyone knows that this president has endured an unprecidented amount of disrespect. More then any other president from either side in history. I think most of is know why. The clowns on this board spewing their hate and false numbers and data know why. We live in a sad and sick world. One of the posters above mentioned "American exceptionalism" ....but I have to ask, the posts written by these righties here are an example of that?

                                                Bruce,

I bet your mother is proud of you. It probably would shock her to know you are one of the more brilliant clowns posting on the site. Keep up the good work. I actually think it is agains the law to provide voter registration cards in a church. They would lose their tax exempt status. Maybe you should report them to the IRS. Watch out though, the Black Panthers might come after you for messing up their voting registration plan.

You explained it as simple as possible. Any one of these rt wingers can search and see this is correct. What is funny, is they won't, and will throw their hard earned wages down a republican hole. Imagine voting to throw your money away.

Yeah Navy...Christ look at the rate of people losing their jobs because of Bush and greedy rich crashing the economy. I lost my job back in 2009 because of the greedy rich and Bush. Then look at the quick action Obama and dems took that turned the 100,000's of people losing their jobs .

14 repubs met the night Obama took office and pledged like Osama Bin Laden did, to take the economy down just to make Obama a one term president. Repubs crash the economy and take the country down. Newt, Ryan, Cantor an DeMint among them. They pledged to act like Taliban, like insurgents to stop any bill that would be good for Obama image. Navy...you damn well know what treason is...and that is treason. Repubs put all the people out of jobs and onto food stamps. You want people to die eh Navy. Crybaby....wanting people to starve...50% are children...you want them to starve?........Bunch of whiners..

Can Maurice Clements, a former Idaho lawmaker, go online to do research, e.g. google, or "google" "Afghanistan war in 2001," and Clements will find the truth that Afghanistan war has started from the previous administration, former President Bush, and it is President Obama to end the war. When former President Bush has started the war, it is not that easy for the next administration to end the war.

And Clements is naive and ignorant. Next time, do some research first.

I suppose CONGRESS didn't vote to go to war? The Democrats are just as much responsible for any wars started as well as MORE responsible for not finishing them.

Seth Raymer: So Dave, by that logic, if 20 years from now we are still in Afghanistan, it will STILL be bush's war right?

Correct. We wouldn't be there if it weren't for his LIES about WMD and all the other manipulation he orchestrated to get us there.

Many of those I see posting here appear to have absolutely no shame and no intelligence either. They keep regurgitating info they heard on Faux News or perhaps out of the scholarly Rush Limbaugh's mouth. Frankly I am amazed at how many came out of the woodwork like legions of cockroaches to post their illuminating comments here. I am sure they are taking time out from their volunteer work trying to make this country a better place. I am certain they are not just posting things in order to vent their bigoted, hateful, ignorant feelings that are not based on any facts whatsoever. This sounds more like a group of howling baboons than a collection of concerned and educated citizens.....How disheartening and disgusting.

danna, obama actually thought he could bring republicans and democrats to a reasonable compromise for the good of the country.(which actually is more of a reflection of his inexperience when he took office)

he was wrong, the republicans have not given a single thing and only screamed for more for their wealthy friends.

Those "boys" who have lost their lives SIGNED UP to defend their country. They VOLUNTEERED to go to war. The people in the movie theater did not think "If I go to the MOVIES I might GET SHOT and I might DIE". But every single person who enlists or goes through OCS KNOWS that they may be called upon to give the ultimate sacrifice - their LIVES.

That's in addition to the fact that both Iraq and Afghanistan were started during Bush's Presidency.

So the comparison ignores FACTS regarding US Service Members (male AND female) and the Colorado shooting. The guy who put up that billboard is INSANE.

                                                Seth,

Maurice Clements, a former Idaho lawmaker who now keeps Smeed's tradition alive, told the Statesman: "We're all outraged over that killing in Aurora, Colo., but we're not outraged over the boys killed in Afghanistan."

Nowhere does this guy mention WOMEN or CHILDREN. He mentions BOYS ... which is the typical and traditional way to refer to American Troops abroad. Unless he is saying that the WOMEN and GIRLS are not worth counting ... which is just as reprehensible, yes?

I do not think I would agree with Maurice on much, but whatever the intentions or motives behind putting it up, I think the message of the billboard itself is very true and hard to debate.

Dan, I grew up in the military. That's 14 MORE years that I lived in the Military than YOU did. My father served during Vietnam, as did my Uncle. My grandfather was in the Navy during WWII and I had a grandfather in WWI. I come from a LONG line of military service. I personally have health issues that would preclude me from serving and have had them since I was 12 years old. I thank those people who serve EVERY DAY. I know the difference between Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day and Veteran's Day.

DO NOT talk to me about "serving" because I spent a good portion of my CHILDHOOD without a Daddy who could be there. He was in the missile silos during Vietnam ... when I was a very young child. That's 2 MILES underground for 2 weeks at a time. He was TDY. He was training ... do NOT presume to tell ME what serving is. My mother was without her husband, I was without my father. *I* "served" 18 years as a dependent. I GREW UP IN THE MILITARY and I would be willing to bet that *I* understand military culture better than YOU do after serving for 4 years.

Those men and women who serve today serve as VOLUNTEERS. They know when they take their service oath (either as enlisted, NCO or Commissioned Officers) that the service they WILLINGLY give may ask of them that they give their lives. IF you have actually served you WOULD KNOW THIS. There is NO - repeat NO similarity to people who went to a midnight showing of a MOVIE and were GUNNED DOWN by a person of questionable sanity. The CIVILIANS who were in that theater did NOT go into it thinking that them being injured or killed was even a REMOTE possibility. Then again ... you claim to have served for four years when the draft was in effect. So maybe you're just someone who was DRAFTED for Vietnam and have no CLUE what an all-volunteer military is all about.

My father JOINED - as in WAS NOT DRAFTED during Vietnam. He VOLUNTEERED. His brother VOLUNTEERED. Just because you were caught up in a draft does NOT give you insight into the military because it means that you NEVER WERE A PART OF THE MILITARY CULTURE. You were "trapped" in your mind and never left the Civilian mindset behind. As is obvious by your comment.

Wow. Another birther. No one cares? Well, it's because it was proven long ago... And when it originally came up, the GOP Governor of Hawaii, where Obama was born, certified it and verified it -- and since that Governor was a McCain supporter, she had every opportunity to nail Obama for a fake certificate if it was fake. It wasn't and she proved it, because she has integrity (something we see in very few GOPs) -- one of your own proved it already!! And yet, you people STILL don't have a clue!!

There is no logic on the billboard. It contains two pictures and two statements, both of which are true. You are left to draw your own conclusions. It would be disingenuous to claim the billboard was not designed to steer you in a particular direction. Nonetheless, the conclusions are your own. And, by the way, people who have class don't use the word.

I did not bring that word into it, someone else did. I will agree that the uninformed and dull could put a lot of incorrect meaning onto that. But I will point out where the logic is. It is about the disparity between the violence we find disagreeable and the kind we do not. 12 people dead, pretty shocking. A president who was at the time involved with 2 wars(maybe 3)which were killing thousands, many of whom were innocents wins a global prize for peace, and we are supposed to think that is okay. I hope the direction the billboard steers people in, is to not blindly accept violent acts, simply because they are draped in a U.S. flag.

It will be interesting to see Romney's response to this whenever he may be asked about it. I suspect he'll denounce it in the same way that he denounced Michelle Bachmann's, et al, completely unfounded claims that Huma Abedin is an operative of the Muslim Brotherhood who has infiltrated the State Department.

In other words, he won't say a single word about it. Just as he won't offer up specific details about any of his proposed policies nor any of his tax returns beyond his 2010 return. (I suspect he'll mysteriously finish processing his 2011 return on November 5th so that no one can analyze it before the election on November 6th.)

Asked about the reaction to his billboard, Clements acknowledged: "That's a technique of trying to make a point, and maybe it was poorly done."

Maybe?! Reasonable people would say this was done in poor taste. People are too politically charged sometimes.

First repubs took the oath of office to protect the nation constitution, blah blah, then they threw it out the window when 95% of all repub politicians signed the Norquist pledge, like traitors pledging to their king Norquist. Then 14 of those pledged to each other to obstruct every bill that would make the president look good. They pledged to act like the Taliban(their own words), like insurgents(their own words) to take the economy down to make President Obama a one term president. The same thing Bin Laden pledged to do. Take the economy down. repubs are traitors to our Constitution! Reference Richard Draper new book.

More republicans showing us they have NO VALUES

All my life, Mormons have been Whacky Cultists. The right-wing and mainstream christianity laughed at their silly stories, disappearing golden tablets, jesus visiting north america to see Joseph Smith, and all the whackadoo stories from him alone, polygamy and arranged child marriages, jesus h nipple! it doesn't stop with those whacky Mormon Cultists! And NOW -- one of the Chief Cultists, Mitt and his Magic Underwear, is your SAVIOR. You are all lockstep behind a cultist, today, who you thought was a wacky cultist yesterday.

You people have NO VALUES. OR, at best, you'll sell what little Values you have for a DIME, to the lowest bidder. It's no wonder people are so turned off by right-wing conservatives.

                                                  Quit attacking Dawn.

The billboard has a bit of validity and shows the hypocrisy of our society, giving the liberal politicians 'peace prizes' but then that person turns around and continues or expands operations in other countries that cause death to others. How is that 'peaceful'? How does that deserve a 'peace prize'?

Why aren't people freaking out about that?

The scale of death by the 'peace prize' winner is far greater than the shooter in Colorado.

That is the message the billboard conveys.

This does not link past presidents, it exemplifies the hypocrisy of liberals who accept the wrong headed thinking of their 'god' but freak out about someone else who doesn't agree with their political stance.

If you make $57k a year and are collecting food stamps, you are breaking the law and stealing from poor people who really need it. You will eventually get caught and will have to pay if back. You think you are so smart, you are not. You're just another dishonest thief, a disgusting gutter rat that should go hide in the dark.

                                                        #23.13 - Wed Aug 1, 2012 11:25 AM EDT

For centuries, blacks were made to work...MADE to pick cotton and not allowed to vote! And now you
have the gall to begrudge blacks getting a little back? Blacks have ALWAYS been down-troden by this society so why shouldn't they now be allowed to access the programs that have been put in place (by Democrats) for the down-troden? Your white pomposity knows no bounds! You can actually say with a straight face that
you think you "support me"? Perhaps you will soon understand what's REALLY happening...that blacks are just BEGINNING to take what is their RIGHT to take! You're probably one of the idiots who laughed uproariously at those poor ignorant women in the Fox News "OBAMA-MONEY" clip. I guess you should have taken it more seriously, huh?

And as far as being prosecuted...SERIOUSLY? The crooked Democrats in Washington are NEVER gonna allow prosecution of ANYBODY for this ! Hell, I was told as much when I applied for these "benefits". That's why I WILL ALWAYS VOTE DEMOCRATIC! At least Dems are smart enough to know how to secure votes! They are paying Blacks back (reperations) for all the years Blacks were down-trodden in this country.

BARRACK HEUSSEIN OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT (AGAIN) IN 2012!

ERIC HOLDER FOR VICE PRESIDENT !

He is the little MUSLIM PUNK and LIAR and WE must rid this country of him and the clowns in the government that follow him. VOTE the little BASTARD out in NOVEMBER. Sorry, but that's the way it is...

No ethics and you take no responsibility for failing our country and still the DO NOTHING Congress continues to FAIL our country. Now your party is trying to push the corporate raider, Mitt theTwit on us.

Actually we question why YOU think the Mittwit will be any better.. In our mind it's no different than hoping out of the frying pan into the fire. Get a REAL GOP candidate, one that has the credentials AND the history to get things done and our mind set may improve for the sake of our Nation but with the rat man, it'll be a continuation of 2000 - 2008.. Also..

"That's a technique of trying to make a point, and maybe it was poorly done.".. (maurice clements)..

MAYBE it was poorly done? It's nothing but picking on a president that they don't like, simple as that. Look at all the Presidents before him (Obama) how many young soldiers were THEY responsible for murdering? The useless wars that were initiated for either safety or wealth and who paid for it? I'm not saying Obama is off the hook, I'm saying it's part of presidential responsibilities to (supposedly keep us free) and sadly, people get killed in the process. To point out one president is petty and hate inducing. I say this idiot should be boycotted by every reasonable citizen in the Nation. Trying to incite such underhanded tactics in the wake of this tragedy only shows their evil intents.

For all of those who ignore their own history; LBJ sent MORE troops to Vietnam after Kennedy was killed, where as Kennedy WAS trying to get us out of Vietnam. Getting the troops out of the Middle East isn't as easy as some like to make it out to be, the President cannot just wave his hand and say "Make it so!". While I want our troops home as much as anyone else, I TRUST the Commander In Chief of our Nation to the job right as ONLY he can!

As for "Romney in 2012", why would we want a Presdient stupid enough to insult the British preparations regarding Olympic security, then tries to backpedal his way out of it? His campaign has been a farce from the start with his constant mistakes and flip-flopping like a dying fish.

lucky-1087161, While you DO have the right to YOUR opinion you D NOT have the right to claim that "America hates Obama", I'm an American and I SUPPORT Obama. So obviously your statement is false, just like your "faith" in "Mitt the Twit" Romney. It's pretty bad when even British citizens think Mitt's and unreliable idiot.

If you would face reality you would understand that President Obama is doing a good job, and when you take into consideration the lack of cooperation he is getting from congress you would have to give him extra credit for working against all the obstacles. His Health care bill is going to help a lot of people, but somehow many are being led to believe it is a bad thing. Wake up, Do you really think Romney is going to do a better job??

That real funny that the people are racists in Idaho for putting this sign up. Bush was called a murdering tyrant for the wars in the middle east by the liberals but the liberals never were called racist by the media.
