NEW YORK -- An NYPD detective has been suspended without pay after a kidnapping victim was found tied up in his Queens garage, sources tell NBC 4 New York.
Sources say Ondre Johnson, a 17-year veteran of the Brooklyn North gang unit, was being questioned by internal affairs about his involvement in the kidnapping of a 25-year-old victim off the street early Friday morning.
Sources say a demand for a $75,000 ransom was made.

Police tracked the victim to the house in St. Albans off the victim's cell phone pings.
When police arrived Friday night, they found the victim tied up in the garage.
Johnson denied any involvement with the kidnapping, but his cousin, Hakeem Clark -- who lives in the other half of the detective's two-family home -- has been charged with kidnapping, along with three other men.

Sources say police found a safe and equipment used to make fake credit cards inside the home.
Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York that Johnson is not expected to be charged with kidnapping at this point, but he has been suspended and stripped of his badge and his gun as the investigation continues.

"Ondre" and "Hakeem" ... if one isn't careful, they could racially profile...
ya think?? naaaa
Another police officer breaking one of the laws, he was sworn to uphold. It's not really even news anymore.
can't even trust the police anymore! Animals!
Idiots! The officer has not been charged with anything yet!
Some cops are nothing but thugs smart enough to get a badge. For example: Drew Peterson. And some of them aren't very smart.
I must have read a different article. I thought this cop had the bad luck to have a worthless family.
Of course NBC wouldn't WITHHOLD the FACT that the Officer was BLACK & the Kidnap Victim was a White Woman, RIGHT !!!
After reading this, I'm honestly more surprised at the fact that Michael Phelps didn't medal today.
If they found a kidnapping victim tied up in my garage, you can be darn sure I'd be arrested on the spot, regardless of whether I claimed I didn't know about it. Having someone who was kidnapped tied up in his garage is more than enough evidence to bring charges, and it should be up to the DA to decide if the charges won't stick, or prove he's guilty in a court of law. Cops always protect one another.
I thought this wasn't about race, AKman.
He is a detective? Duct tape all over the house and growns & moans, did you think is was a racoon party going on? If the detective is innocent he should be required to re-qualify for the position......
"Honest, I had no idea..."
The hot "get out of jail free" card seems to be the "I didn't know" defense. Kerry Kennedy is using it in her hit and run defense saying "she didn't know she had taken sleeping medication before she got in her car and drove.
It is becoming more and more difficult to discern bona fide criminals from the bona fide criminals being paid by the taxpayers.
"Sources say police found a safe and equipment used to make fake credit cards inside the home." Brilliant reporting. In WHICH home? This is a duplex. In the cop's home or the cousin's home? Grrrr to msn.
This is also what AK man left out:
According to a source, the victim has at least three prior arrests for forgery, and the kidnapping does not appear to be random.
Just don't want to tell the whole story do you? Sounds like the vic was involved with the crooked relative. But we will hear all of the gnashing and the wailing about how NBC screwed up this story and how it is biased. Got to love the _______. I knew when I clicked this link what I was going to find and I sure was not disappointed.
For many of you..... Why don't you just wait till all the facts are in, before crucifying this cop, and/or all cops in general. Let's assume, for a moment.... that he wasn't directly involve, and than...... take your foot out of your mouth, and put them is his shoes......just to get a different perspective of how it feels to be maligned for wearing a badge!!
Are there bad cops? Absolutely, but they are far, far outnumbered by the good guys, so stop acting like some numb nut that goes off the deep end every time you hear something something like this. In short...grow up ........ and act, and think like a responsible adult. In the process, you might actually learn something...
Yeah, the cop didn't know. That's perfectly reasonable isn't it? Isn't it? I mean after all, Barney Frank didn't know there was male prostitution ring being run out of his own apartment by his own room mate. Many liberals believed that (or at least claimed so) and defended Frank. And so any liberal who believed Barney Frank should certainly be willing to give the cop the benefit of the doubt until the investigation is complete. Shouldn't they?
Funny how in liberal la la land, each situation always demands its own set of rules to justify whichever side it is they want to come down on. The excuse was the same in each case, but since one was a cop, and the other was a gay congressman, then the rules for each situation must be set up so that each situation will reflect the side liberals wish to defend.
It doesn't matter that their own rules, if taken from one situation and applied to the other, would lead to the exact opposite position of the one liberals wish to support. In liberalism, the end always justifies the means. No center, no core values, and certainly never any absolutes. Nope, everything in liberalism is always relative. Liberals will try and pawn off that deficit of values as being open minded.
I call it being a liar. And not a very convincing one at that.
Must be a recurring nightmare you have...big Black man with a tied up white woman...almost makes you want to buy some new rope for that sturdy tree out back. Hell, just drive around until you find some random Black kid on the street you can drag back to the tree and and make an example of him, eh.
I've got a bold word or two for you, pathetic racist.
Considering the daily barrage of police misconduct, and that's only what is exposed and we hear about, it's possible the bad are well on their way to outnumbering the good. Just google "police corruption" and over 69 million results come up.
Sleeping in bed together, the justice system, from local police departments on up to the Feds, continue to cover up and not hold "their own" accountable. There's a reason more and more of the population are angry and are calling for police accountability and reform. Enough is enough.
Btw, does anyone know where I could find year by year statistics for total law enforcement involved killings in the U.S.?
It doesn't appear to be readily available; so I suspect the numbers may not be worthy of boasting to the general public.
This guy is a detective and a 17 year veteran of the cops and we are supposed to believe he didn't know what was going on right under his nose. Give me a freaking break!
In my lifetime and association with police officers they are the first ones to profile and jump to conclusions never being man enough to apologise, they often act as if they have a 8th sense, so get off your high horse there human like anyone else and if your a cop STFU.
Duplex or not, this "detective" is no Dick Tracy. All of this going on right next door and basically under his roof and he's completely dumbfounded about it? Yeah, right.
Any detective would know about tracing cell phone pings. Until more comes out it would appear as the cop had nothing to do with it.
And what better place than the cop's house to store the vic until the loot could be grabbed?
CNR: No, two wrongs do not make a right. However, it is telling that Barney Frank isn't a detective, and if he was aware of the crime, then the crime of accessory to prostitution is still much less than accessory to kidnapping.
Also, if the kidnap victim didn't moan, there were still other things that had been happening that the detective should have noticed. Family is family, but if blood runs thicker than water among police, then their brothers are not police, and they should leave the fraternal order.
Come on people defending the cop! How can you defend him when this was all going on right next door? He's a veteran detective and he didn't realize any of this was going on in his cousin's home that is attached directly to his!? If he's innocent then who knows how much he's messed up doing his job.
CNR: Greed and corruption do not discriminate, including politically.
They ought to pay Freeh a few million dollars to investigate the Police Department and the cop. Someone there must have known what the cop's brother was doing and covered it up. $75,000 buys a lot of crack, etc. Why aren't the media vans in front of his house and why haven't they tweeted his address so the gang's friends can drop by to pay their respects?
This detective couldn't find his own arss with both hands free and 2 mirrors.
The detective will be thoroughly investigated (by other cops), it shall be determined (by other cops) that he did not know what the hell was going on practically under his own roof and involving a family member that apparently was heavily involved in the kidnapping (and who knows what else because kidnapping is not usually a first time criminal endeavour, one usually works one's way up the ladder to kidnapping), he'll get his badge and gun back and everything will be fine......just fine!
Was the victim related to Mel Gibson?
Hey give Barney Fife a break. I mean really how would you know your cousin was kidnapping and doing god knows what to females in the garage. hell he is a good cousin always letting you use his credit cards and all. They may only give Barney one bullet and he kept it safely tucked away in his shirt pocket waiting for the day he came across a peaceful protest somewhere that required real police work.
Move along, nothing to see here.
The people have heard that same unbelievable line much too often.
Now, we are stopping and taking a real good hard and long look, and we're not liking what we're seeing.
You got that right Debi. The cops get to police themselves and the corruption is getting out of hand.
Wow now right wingers want to defend a kidnapper. They just sink lower with every new day.
Exactly. the police should not be in the position of policing themselves. At one point in time, the cops in Pittsburgh were so bad and totally shameless that the DOJ had to step in to oversee them. A citizens advisory board (CAB) was eventually set up (after MUCH feet dragging from the police and their union) to investigate citizen complaints of wrongdoing by the cops. Guess what the upstanding cops chose to do? Refused to show up for questioning. I belive the CAB had to get the courts involved in some instances (subpeonas) to make the cops show up. Better belive the "blue line" is gonna cover their own backsides at all costs and especially if the "cost" falls down on their side of the fence.
Abolish, It is not that we want to support a kidnapper. It is we don't trust the cops and we want to be able to have the right to defend ourselves from vermin and cops. Give us the rights to kill a perp just like the cops have and quit telling us we need to give up our guns and just make a phone call to the police who might show up. Here is a true story I have seen before on the internet as well as I saw it on the news.
Round like a shot... Going to bed the other night, I noticed people in my shed stealing things. I phoned the police but was told there was no one in the area to help. The policeman said they would send someone over as soon as possible. I hung up.
A minute later I rang again. 'Hello', I said, 'I called you a minute ago because there were people in my shed. You don't have to hurry now, because I've shot them.' Within five minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area, plus helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the officers said: 'I thought you said you'd shot them.' To which I replied: 'I thought you said there was no one available.'

@ abolish taxes
It is the liberals who want to protect the criminals. They like to keep them off death row and give them 30 years of appeals at the taxpayers expense. They like to claim the killers had a bad childhood and we all should just give them a hug and turn them loose so they can kill again. We right wingers want to march them out to the back lot and use them for target practise.
Gee Dave, don't you think its possible people don't want to rush to execute convicts because countless ones (not all on death row or executed) have been found, via dna evidence, to be innocent. If you could prove with dna evidence, gun residue, witnesses (always the weakest form of proof), etc. that someone committed a murder, then I'm definitely on board.
I'm independent as my name says, so I needn't fall into a Liberal/Neocon argument for every freakin article that comes out.
While there is definitely some bad apples in Police, I'd rather have them out there to help when needed
" Just google "police corruption" and over 69 million results come up."
Hey. There's overlap ya know.
Come on people, really? Just like some priests are pedophiles, some doctors are murderers, some engineers are bank robbers? There are bad apples in most every profession. If you want perfection in people, you're on the wrong planet!
This thread is so full of "idiotic humor" I don't have to quit my day job. The Democrats want to protect "the perpetrator." No, the Republicans want to protect him. Hey, he's black, you can tell by the name. Oh, and the victim's white...we shouldn't make anything of that like a black on white crime; or a "racially motivated hate crime." The victim in the garage still had her cell phone, the cop would have known this so he couldn't be involved (unless she had it stashed in her private pocket.) And the credit card production company who happens to be a cousin, just a coincidence. As far as we know this has been a non-violent crime (except for the part where the victim was tied up and held against her will in SOMEBODY'S garage) aside from that, the neighbors were all safe from harm. He was a cop, who would he hurt. The cousin's cousin was a cop living next door, a perfect role model and deterent to the cousin from being wooed to the "dark side" as it were. All this is just circumstancial, there is going to be a perfectly good explanation for why the cop had his badge and gun taken away, the cousin was charged with running an uncertified credit company (probably wasn't even Federally insured but we don't actually know this do we so we can't jump to conclusions.) And the "victim" is going to feel sorry for the perps and claim that the entire situation was a complete misunderstanding; just a "special little fantasy" that probably got a little out of hand. In the end we have to wait and see how this plays out before we find out exactly what happened and who was really responsible: the Democrats or the Republicans.
Land of the free, home of the brave.
Innocent until proven guilty.
All are equal before the law.
C'mon guys, you need to speed up. You have only proved 3 incorrect and it is 9:36 already. Bit slow this morning??
Are you kidding me? Tell me they didn't throw cuffs on this chucklehead and put him directly into a cage. People need to start taking down dirty-a$$ cops like they do iPhone theives. Priorities, people.
AKman - we meet again. Circumstantial evidence would have it that you have problems with race and that MSNBC treads a bit more carefully than you would like. Lynching was outlawed because more than likely the innocent were hanged, but electronic lynching is alive and well in these pages. Having to rebut your racially fueled remarks makes me feel proud to be an American.
Deny, deny, deny! Works for Obama!
Pat, this is the court of public opinion and none of those things matter here. The internet is an anarchy.
great police work when this stuff is going on in your own home and you are unawares.
how could he not have known or at least be suspicious?
cops.......never there when you need them and never "there" if you know what I mean.
Guy should get fined for being stupid because it sounds like his relative was always a bad guy through and through. The things we do for family.......but as a police officer he had a duty to report anything he may have suspected.............think he will screen his next "tenant" more carefully?
I see death penalty to be used as a deterrent here--that is for the reporters making this public of course--- They better close their address info, and SS number, as well as your blog ID here, first thing they do without telling you--Did I mention that we tell the rest of the world about FREEDOM?
How was this cop to know something was up when he pulled his car into the garage each evening after work with that guy tied to the chair sitting there? Maybe he just didn't notice him. His cousin could have had the guy covered with a blanket or something.
"Cops always protect one another."
Ya Think????
List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States
List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States
If ya want to know what the victim said after he was untied...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMj0t7sds7I
Sick and tired of when it's blacks commiting crimes they are not identified by race over and over and over again. When there is a white victim it's downplayed as NO BIG DEAL, NO HATE CRIME!!! NO DISCRIMINATION!!!! NO RACISMN!!!!!!!! What a load of BS!!!! Every single article ever written on GZ/TM has RACE mentioned in it. EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE SAYS "WHITE HISPANIC"!!!
TIME FOR CHANGE WHEN IT COMES TO POLICING THE POLICE!!!!! A board of citzens with absolutely nothing to do with the department should be implemented in every city and state across the nation.
If Obama had a cousin would he look just like this cop?????
Ok. before, law breaking policemen were given/granted the excuse that they weren't making enough money for the dangerous job they were providing to society. but now that they make more money than regular working Americans, what are their excuses?
20 to 1 odds he "QUIETLY" get's his pension.
Thanks for the lists huskergal, but they're not complete.
There was a police involved killing which occurred in July 2010 that's not on the list and I suspect there are many more. I wonder if there is an official governmental list.
That's the closest I could get. Maybe this site can help. It doesn't seem to list by la enforcement, but it may lead you to a list
Clearly the Detective had a pretty good racket going.
Ondre spends all day on the job scoping out the rich gang bangers, identifying their hangouts, weaknesses etc... and reports it all to his partner in crime cousin Hakeem who he lets live in the other half of his duplex. The cousin takes the info snatches the bangers(or thier girlfriend, mom, cousin, or whoever) and demands ransoms... no doubt with Ondre providing instructions and monitoring the police.
P.S.
Only a cop would not be arrested when a kidnap victim is found bound and gagged on his property. Pigs protecting Pigs.
dave
"It is the liberals who want to protect the criminals. They like to keep them off death row and give them 30 years of appeals at the taxpayers expense."
Funny thing is, those stupid liberals have found that keeping an inmate for a life sentence is far LESS costly than executing an inmate, largely due to the appeals process. It's the death row inmates that appeal until there is no other option, not lifers. I don't know where you get the idea that life without parole is equivalent to turning them loose so they can kill again. And for some reason, I always thought that the 'thou shalt not kill' thing was a conservative idea. You know, that whole Sanctity of Life thing.
"The problem with liberals is they think they are always right, but are right only 20% of the time and want to protect the lives of everything but an unborn fetus. Conservatives also think they are always right, but are right only 10% of the time and want to kill everything but an unborn fetus"
Thanks again huskergirl.
Something tells me law enforcement involved killings is not a statistic the government wants made easily accessible or known.
Aaah yes, let the first thing we whites focus on is RACE. No WONDER we're labeled THE most racist humans on earth. GIVE IT A REST!
How can you not know this is going on in your house. Safes equipment to make credit cards and a kidnapped victim stashed in the garage?
C'mon this guy is involved or is a moron. He needs to either run for a political office or sell used cars.
As a lawyer who has worked with and around police and who has talked to them about tactics and attitudes, I believe many if not most chose to become cops because of totalitarian urges within them, urges they rarely even recognize within themselves. And while there are many, many good police, who do a difficult job with dignity and respect for the community, many, many are purveyors of ignorance, negligence and arrogance and are little more than bullies with a badge. Unfortunately, because the police protect themselves, and because our justice system gives them way too much leeway, the bad among them can easily terrorize regular innocent citizens, and in the process, give the good police a black eye.
In this case, the reality is that we all should not fall into the trap that most law enforcement fall into, that is to assume we can determine a truth with very little knowledge of the situation. The reality is, that based on the information given, and we aren't even certain the information is accurate, there are 50 different possible scenarios that could have ended with the victim tied up in the garage. The detective could be innocent. He could be guilty. And none of us really can make any kind of decent guess from our vantage point. For instance, while it is true one would assume a detective would be cognizant of someone tied up in his garage, it is also true that every law enforcement officer knows that they have begun using widespread electronic surveillance and electronic tracking. The first thing a cop who kidnapped someone would do would be to toss the cell phone. So, the most honest thing for us readers to do is admit our ignorance and recognize that none of us knows the truth in this case.
Elizabeth: I agree, that two wrongs don't make a right. However, my post was not about the degree of seriousness of the crime. Though I think most would certainly agree that kidnapping is a far more serious offense, that wasn't the main focus of my point.
The point was that the excuses of both men were the same: "I didn't know". And yet there are many who are so quick to condemn the cop, but will put on blinders and totally ignore the obvious when it comes to Barney Frank.
Personally, I think they BOTH absolutely knew what was going on. The difference is that my position is consistent with what would be the reasonable conclusion based on the details given. If you took the opposite and said, I think neither one knew, then that would be consistent as well. The problem comes in when you try and say the cop must have known, but Barney Frank must not. Those that condemn the cop, but give Barney Frank a pass show that they really don't care what Frank was doing, its all about the politics to them.
And that's what makes those that willingly disregard the evidence of Barney Frank, corrupt and hypocritical people.
Of course, it's no surprise that my original post was collapsed. Liberals can't stand it when the light of logic and truth is shown on their hypocrisy. All I ever ask for is consistency. When it comes to having to condemn one of their own, liberals are rarely capable of rising to that level.
Whats really ridiculous is that Akman has the third highest rated post on the thread yet his comment "has been collapsed by the community" ugh the liberal media sucks...truth hurts doesnt it??
CNR:
It's not that we put on blinders and totally ignore the Barney Franks of this country. The Barney Franks of this country live in the land of OZ and are unreachable; whereas, the cop lives in our own neighborhood and is more accessible.
"There are bad apples in most every profession".
The problem with bad cops is that it is their profession. The doctor who is a murderer is usually a competent doctor. The cop who murders directly opposes his paid purpose as well as society.
Hi, it's me, Pigotry. Hi!
What would happen if the police officer was White, and the Kidnap victim was BLACK? President Obama, would've already sent the DOJ and the FBI to investigate. Special treatment only applies to black victims.
Debi-1314897:
For the most part, I can't argue with your logic on that one. I understand your accessibility point; that when something like that is right there in your neighborhood, the natural human reaction is one of shock. I do get that. But, I do have to think that Barney Frank lives in a neighborhood too. And I have to think that even in a state as liberal as Massachusetts, that some in Frank's neighborhood surely must have been appalled at the fact that there was a male prostitution ring being run out of his apartment.
But hey, maybe that's just me. Maybe I'm completely delusional about that. I know there are many on the vine that think I'm completely delusional anyway. And that's okay, I have no problem with that at all. I know it drives many liberals crazy that my world does not revolve around what others think of me. I am who I am and don't live my life for the approval that others might give me, if only I would think and believe as they do. I have friends that like me just the way I am and a family that loves me in spite of my faults. I don't need anyone else's approval beyond that.
I sure can't argue with your statement that the Barney Franks of this nation, and most politicians, for that matter, regardless of their party, live in the land of Oz. I have to fully concede your point on that one.
@ Debi ---
You could try searching by state.
Another nice family member of an affirmative action hire.
True. I suspect the bound individual broke into the officers garage just to frame the officer. Happens all the time. Probably forged the ransom note as well.
first
No, second.
Scooter, try to shoot for more maturity, you sound like the children on BBC's Top Gear page, and yes you still got it WRONG, you were third, add the word that rhymes with third here, do I need to spell it for you?
Not even third! Scooter, now why don't you just cook up a hot mess of grits and biscuits with country gravy, and stop your squawking, young Sir. I am sure you can find re-runs of the Dukes of Hazzards on cable.
Scooter was second; look at the time stamps you "brainiacs".
"lynseypug
Some cops are nothing but thugs smart enough to get a badge. For example: Drew Peterson. And some of them aren't very smart."
No. Cops are thugs who were not smart enough to make it on the streets, where you need to be able to think on your feet.
scooter get's any faster he'll be in the next Olympics...deal with it gripers...lol...
they said his name not his color. you made the decision that he was black,
Did anybody stop to think the guy might have tied himself up and just likes hanging around police detectives' garages for fun? Happens all the time.
How many more dirty cops are going to be coming out of the wood work? Police departments around the nation need to start policing themselves and weeding out the bad cops.
??? you might wish to reread the article. The cop in the story was living next door to the culprit(s)
They are trying to say the cop wasn't involved in the kidnapping. But if he wasn't how did the victim get in HIS garage without him knowing it?
his cousin, Hakeem Clark -- who lives in the other half of the detective's two-family home -- has been charged with kidnapping, along with three other men.
same house rocky, that's a close next door.... and it was his cousin, not some anonymous tenant...
Despite all that, I want to believe he wasn't involved.
robert, sounds like a duplex... 2 garages, officer owns the property...
??? you might wish to read the article. The cop in the story was living in the other half of the culprit(s) house which is entirely owned by the cop in question. Being so vague with the details given by just saying he was next door isn't how a detective would frame it. Now I'm not a NYPD detective but if my live-in cousins were making illegal credit cards and kidnapping people off the streets and keeping them tied up all while under my roof, I'm not sure I could any longer consider myself a competent detective, and that's assuming the cop in question actually had no part in it.
I think if the officer was involved the victims cell phone would not have been turned on and pinging.
Even I know the police can track active cell phones.
I have to agree with Upgradedd, no cop with a brain would leave an active cell phone on a kidnap victim if he was involved. Remember this is a two family residence. I don't believe the cop was involved, and the investigating officer should take a look at his track record.
I am sure I read this entire thing in a Janet Evonivich/Stephanie Plum novel.......except it was forging $20.00 not credit cards.......and I think there was a dead man in the basement not the garage......but seem to remember the last names were the same.
So what Rocky , tell that to the little girl in Detroit who was shot by a SWAT team filming for COPS . Her sin ? her family lived in a duplex next to someone wanted . Accident maybe , not to the dead girl or was she suppose know about what was going on . You would think that with all the money spent to train a detective they would be more aware of their surroundings
He was just holding her for a friend.
How could this cop not been involved seeing that it was in his house.
Liaa....
Who ever said all cops have brains?
How many of you have kids on drugs and don't know it? How many parents have delinquents for children and do not know it? How many of us have a husband or wife that is cheating and don't know it? The cop could very well have not known it! He is as human as all of us are. I know that I have seen evidence in my life that was ignored because the person I loved was involved and my brain couldn't or wouldn't pick up on it.
I just read the NY Times version of the story, they said it was a man victim not a woman. They also said it was a two story house with 2 apartments. They also said it was a detached garage at the end of the driveway. If all this is true I could see where the detective might not have known what was going on. It also said the safe with the credit card counterfeiting equipment was in the cousins apartment.
Up gradedd so you know the house?? could it have been a duplex with the garages in between?? yes everyone knows the cop was there 24/7 and should have seen what was going on. Heck he does not work he is a cop right??
where you at on this serious Bizz- no comment today
Sounds like 4 Africans Kidnaped a girl for ransom.....I hope this girl was not White.....How scary.
Asking for that much money, she had to be.....Watch your daughters & wives Whitey.......I bet anything that she was White, Sexually Assaulted & Scared to Death....
geowil, I agree completely. We need to weed out all those bad cops. Then maybe they would be more relaxed and too stoned to violate anyone's civil rights.
Geowil:
The reason law enforcement agencies are becoming bigger and bigger cesspools is because they are failing at policing themselves. It is like doctors policing doctors, or politicians policing politicians. It doesn't work.
Occasionally they'll throw the public a bone by weeding out a bad apple or two so the public is kept satisfied with the false notion of justice taken place.
If the public were permitted to see what goes on behind the "Blue Veil" of departmental secrecy, they would be disgusted.
Yall need to read the story from a different source. The victim was a man not a woman. This story didn't say if the victim was male or female.
Somebody was watching Birth of a Nation again.
The kidnap victim was a man. It is hard to get all the facts, those white hoods are hard to see out of.
Why do black people give their kids such zany names? When did that start? Years ago they had pretty normal names.
Yes, it was easier when they all called their sons Tyrone, or Darnell and stereotypical ones like that.
I have to ask though, beyond being the names of the involved, what on Earth does it have to do with the case ? Or was that just a rhetorical question ?
Ondre I can understand, they must have meant Andre, other than that.....?
What kind of name is Hakeem. Is that Muslim, African, Mexican, Chinese??
What the hell does it matter what they name their children?? I might say, why do white people name their children John and Judy??? The answer: BECAUSE THEY WANT TO AND IT'S NOBODY'S DAMN BUSINESS!
It's MY damn business when I have a classroom full of them and can't remember the Shakira's from the Latandras, Nekisha's, D'anglo's and Dewaynes! Talk about making it impossible!
When someone decided it would be fashionable to claim they are honoring their African heritage with "more" African sounding names...personally I think it would be much more an honor if they decided to move to their homeland and make their country a better place for all
... and Percy, Poindexter, are good? Ask your Parents what your "real" last name was before it was Americanized!
Take a look in the family bible or family tree.
It really doesn't matter much to most of us, I'm sure, but it strikes me as being kind of odd because a lot of these names seem to be just pulled out of thin air. I sometimes wonder if the parents even stop to consider the inferred meanings of some of these names. I've heard a few that seem to have been derived from root words with connotations that are anything but positive.
yes, because white people never name their kids anything unusual, just ask a celebrity.
Celebrities are not people.
I would think anything is going to be better than blanket.
may be, but there are an awful lot of strange unique white people names because parents want their kids to be "special" and "unique," or they'll change the spelling of common name to something ridiculous.
I'd rather have a Hakeem than an Aloysius or a Buford.
Why the hell does it matter Jeanette you racist F***. Instead of just singling out black people, how about you focus on the broader spectrum of American names.
Why do Irish have the name McCormick, and Hispanics have Jose? With your logic they should be Smith & Justin.
Hakeem is of African decent.
Nancy- No its your damn job to teach those kids so they can become successful, its none of your damn business what parents name their kids. Its not impossible to culture yourself every now and then.
Missy- So what you're basically saying is that all parents need to give their kids typical white names?
Perhaps we should go back to naming guys Ashley?
Names change over time and perhaps some parents want to give their kids a bit of uniqueness by changing the spelling of the name. If they arent naming their kids Apple or Star then I dont care
My favorite is Le-a. The - don't be silent....that's pronounced le dash a...
you think that white folks dont name their kids weird names, just look at my first name. It is Zon.
lynseypug, funny, I lived next to a neighbor named Alysius Buford when I was growing up and they were black. The names are pointless in this article but if you can tell someone's race by their first name you better believe employers, black OR white won't view them as very employable. It's also not cute to have a person, white or black at age forty named Cody or Kylie.
What difference does it matter what first names they give the kids when you know all the last names are different?
"Its not impossible to culture yourself every now and then." Vanda1s, please feel free to "culture yourself". I await the outcome.
Vanda1s wow you sound as if you are the name authority...I just love how you want to jump down our throats for speaking our mind but then you end your post that you are okay with whatever parents name their kids aslong as it isnt Apple or Star "then YOU are okay" wtf?? So you can be opinionated but we cannot be?? go crawl back under the rock or back into the cave from which you came
You consider Muslim names zany? And what's wrong with coming up with unique names to individualize your kid instead of just Bob or Frank or George...aren't there enough of those already?
If you name them Adolph Hitler, Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Campbell, Walmart won't sell you a birthday cake and the New Jersey Superior Court will take your children away.
This whole subject is way off topic, but interesting. It is always possible to change names as an adult, but it takes some legal red tape, and even when the name is legally changed, the old name may still appear on some legal documents. At least leave the initial letters the same. Or, add a name, either first or middle, and use the old name only as an initial. In some states, Baptismal names are considered legal additions without too much hassle; in other states a formal name change must take place in order to add a new name (i.e., Baptism or Confirmation name).
All states, with the new voter I.D. laws, face some real challenges with names. One purpose of using very strange and unique names is so that the Board of Election or the local hospital won't be confused. People have driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers, etc., but for some reason all that extra I.D. is ignored in states like Florida; you only have to have a person living four states away with a similar name who has a felony record to be disenfranchised, or somebody with a similar sounding (not even spelled the same) name to have an x-ray mixed up. So in a state like Florida, I would understand it if parents gave license plate names to their children consisting of a mix of numbers and letters, or maybe a bar code.
@ Patriot and Nancy,
Patriot, you should tell the entire story. The name you referenced apparently belongs to a child in the Jacksonville, FL area. Her "teacher" sent out an email making fun of the pronounciation of the CHILD"S name. Guess the "teacher" (who sounds a lot like Nancy, BTW) did not have anything better to fill her time with. I believe the "teacher" received some blowback about the email, if my memory serves me correctly, however, I think she should have been fired as she obviously has an issue with the names of many of her black students which basically comes down to having a problem with black students period. As you geniuses might know, that's bad for the unfortunate children who are subjected to "people" like that. Complaining about the names is just a smokescreen. As you said in your post Nancy, it is YOUR problem. It is not the child's issue. Well, other than having to deal with the likes of you and your ilk. Ever hear of Moon Unit Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Pilot Inspektor or how about Audio Science. All named by their parents. But since they are all white, you probably don't have a problem with those names. Need to check yourselves and see where and what the REAL problem is! It's clear as Crystal, Kristal, Cristal, Krystle----take your dam* pick! And to the "teachers" out there that feel the same way, why don't you just march right into your local school board and tell them about your "issue"? Yeah, I though so!
@missylovesrobby----
Well aren't you just special. Your post stating "When someone decided it would be fashionable to claim they are honoring their African heritage with "more" African sounding names...personally I think it would be much more an honor if they decided to move to their homeland and make their country a better place for all" is just so CUTE. Sounds like someone calling themselves missy would say just that! And look, you did! So let me ask you a question about what you said, just so I can be sure I have it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and not the other end of the horse. Are you saying that it would be an honor for all black people to go back to Africa? To "improve" their homeland? Is that what you're saying? Because I fail to see how that has ANYTHING to do with what name one gives their child. Also, exactly whom was it that told you "someone" decides it would be "fashionable" to claim they are honoring their African heritage (About which I think you probably have ZERO knowledge) with more African sounding names? Cause I gotta tell ya, that whole statement sounds like it was pulled out of a horse's a$$....so to speak. I'm sure you know what I mean. Oh, I hear some places in Europe are in need of some help improving their situation. You seem like just the person to go help improve some things there. As for your other post instructing someone to go back to their cave or some such thing..........I could fill you in on the people who were occupying caves at one point in time, but you probably wouldn't like to hear it.
Sandie,
Oh, snap!
a name is just something we all have to deal with...ever heard of a boy named sue...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcQKtl3MGCE
One would never be wrong by under estimating the intelligence of most of the people commenting on this subject.
Most of you seem to have personal knowledge of policemen and how they work. Why is that? Are you continually screwing up which puts you in their close proximity on a frequent basis? Are you uneducated which means the labor force really doesn't want you and thus you live in a sh#* hole neighborhood because getting ahead financially and legally just hasn't trickled down to your little pea brain yet?
In 65 years the only time I've had contact with a cop was for a moving vehicle violation and when I treated them respectfully, they did the same.
If you would all re-read the article you will note a few interesting tells: the victim was kidnapped Friday morning and found Friday evening. If the detective was at work there is a strong chance that he wasn't aware of what was going on in the other part of the duplex or in the garage.
With seventeen years of service and the rank of detective why would you be party to a $75,000.00 ranson that would have to be split three or four ways when you earn more than that every year and why would you risk your retirement and job for that lowly amount of money.
To the person who stated cops became cops because they couldn't make it as a street thug - are you speaking from experience? I live in a city where there aren't any wealthy thugs and venture to say that you don't know very many either.
Well put, Innkeeper
Sandie...you have some nerve speaking of my name when whats yours?? Is there that much difference?? You're definently an odd one for sure. I do have issue when these people boast about their "homelands" living here in America. Like calling themselves African Americans...or Mexicans flying the flag of Mexico on their front lawn IN America...IF they are sooo proud of their heritage and where they or their ancestors came from, why dont they go back?? I am a direct descendant of one of Civil War era Presidents. And yes before that our family did come from England or Ireland, but I do not refer to myself as an Irish American or an English American...ABSURD ! I have no desire to daily boast about how awesome it is to be Irish or of English heritage..I AM AN AMERICAN...if I carried on and on about those subjects I would feel compelled to go live back whereever my ancestors came from. And your point about Europeans use to live in caves some thousand years ago means what? I was telling Vandas1 that he/she sounds if he/she STILL is a cave dweller. Just take a look at the living conditions in some African countries today..a cave would be a step up ! Ohhh and Culbreath..SNAP THAT !!!
knock knock, whos there? Shanita. Shanita who? Shanita go to weight watchers.
Nancy, if you can't remember your students' names, you need to put the pipe down and go back to school yourself. Learn some mnemonic self training techniques. I find it easier to remember names that are unique, not the other way around.
Or, more realistically, you need to get out of the teaching business so you don't have the chance to spread your thinly veiled racism, nor subject children to your negative perspective.
@cul, you know. Different day, same sh*t from the bubbas and bubbettes.
@missylovesrobby, yeah missy, and for you, a mind for Christmas. Betcha can't wait to open it up and use it. I agree that you are a direct descendant, that's about as far as I can go with that on the 'vine.
Jeanette-767450
Really, and what kind of name is jeanette? if that is even your real name.
Nancy4366
It's MY damn business when I have a classroom full of them and can't remember the Shakira's from the Latandras, Nekisha's, D'anglo's and Dewaynes! Talk about making it impossible!
hahahah, well then stop pretending to not be racist. It's your own damn short comings that you have a memory capacity of a maggot. It's still non of your business, unless you're actually financially supporting and legally raising these kids.
missylovesrobby
You should take up your own advice and leave for your homeland. I know, I know you do fit right in with Armerica, because the US is full of ignorant people like you.
GAdude
Really? odd names being pulled out of thin air, much better than being pulled out of your arse, or better yet, the bible. Let me guess, your real name is fashioned after a saint?
Gosh this thread was dumb. Now I'm dumber for participating.
....I kinda miss Buckwheat and Rastus
@ Sandie, great post!
Just FYI - "Hakeem" is the name of a character that Eddie Murphy played in his movie "Coming To America". Really funny movie. It was the first time Murphy transformed himself into many characters. I love that movie.
I reccommend it to Missy and Nancy. It might give you girls a clue and you won't make such inflammatory statements. Then again, you two might just be racists.
On our online local newspaper they publish the weekly jail report & all the local people that post online vote on the worst name for the week. No. 1.) Sedequea Minyun, No. 2.) Jiquarius Uhuan or No. 3.) Latravious Ramesho. Last names are removed to protect the innocent.
@thepunisher, "the memory capacity of a maggot", dang, I can't WAIT to use that. LOL!
I used to work with a Unique Lovegrove. I thought it was a pretty cool name, actually.
@ the "punisher" oohh im shakin here...hahaha...I can see you really put alot of thought into your name..*rolling my eyes here* but umm okk..but your a day late and probably most likely a dollar short as usual dimwit
well missy are to glad that your great great great whatever they were took part in just about wiping out all the Native people that were here before the white man came? Where do you think people are from that live south of the border? They are Natives that were stripped of their land and heritage, by greedy Europeans also, they just happen to speak spanish and worshop a "White" religion. Thank goodness some still have their elders to teach them the old ways and languages
I guess crazy infects all professions.
"Quis custodiet ipsos custodes"
Please translate for these folks. It is an apt phrase from old Roman law, incorporated into our legal system.
"Who will guard the guards?"
Who watches the watchmen?
911, but sometimes they don't do what 911 tells them to.
What ARE you talking about, Nancy????? You do know that 911 is merely a center for receiving and dispatching emergency calls, right? It isn't the Grand Overseer.
tanainke, do you think Nancy might be referring to the well known case in Florida?
DuH!!! Obviously she is talking about the GZ/TM Sanford Floriduhh case!!!!
Nancy4366
911, but sometimes they don't do what 911 tells them to.
Gosh you're a genius, droping out of school really, really made you smarter....................
If this were you or me, do you think we'd have escaped being arrested? Suspended without pay? How about suspended without his freedom? Another example of how the police aren't subject to the same laws & justice as the rest of us.
Over the last few months I've read numerous articles on cops kids getting ahold of their guns and either shooting themselves, or their siblings. Yet we never get a follow up on these stories to see what type of punishment officers of the law get when they are STUPID enough to leave guns around where their kids can get ahold of them. For example an officer left two young children sleeping? in the car and the officer and spouse had "stepped away" from the vehicle when apparently the younger child picked up the parents gun and shot and killed their sibling. What is up with stuff like that??? Wouldn't you think a police officer of all people would know far better than the average citizen never to leave children unattended around a loaded gun??????? THe average citlzen would be arrested, jailed, tried and convicted of a crime in the same scenario.
Well, if this was you, and it was your cousing doing the crime. Wouldn't you want a full investigation done before being hang?
If the kidnapping victim was in his garage. He is involved. How could he not know. We were not born yesterday.
How about try reading the article first before commenting...... but then again, I do believe you were born yesterday.
Pretty funny. I did read the article. Even if he did not put her there. Unless he was completely drunk, blind and deaf. There is no way that he could not know. We all know when something is amiss. The reasonable man would suspect that something was afoot.
Depending on how long the victim was there is a major factor. I work 12+ hour shifts with a 1hour drive time to and from work. 13 hours away from home, I could not tell you what goes on in my home let alone my neighbors.
Birds of a feather flock together. Even if he did not do the deed himself. He is associating with criminals who did. This incident took place in his environment. He knew what was going on. If you live with criminals bad things will happen. By the way, law enforcement officers are not allowed to associate with criminals. He was.
JohnWW1
Yeah it is pretty funny. You obviously did not comprehend the reading. There was no indication the victim was a "female" and yet you refer to the victim as a female.
"By the way, law enforcement officers are not allowed to associate with criminals"
hahahah...........Really? I guess all the under-cover cops should be arrested on site, for associating with criminals.
Sanford Florida is looking for a few good cops.
Joe Arpaio is hiring, and so is the L.A. Sheriff Department.
These cops can always find a job with the working environment they want.
And yet Americans are all too quick to judge the tenor of professionalism in police departments in so many other parts of the world, while simultaneously this sort of home-grown corruption happens in our very own backyard. and now, enter the NYPD police union with their circus act of legal thugs and counter allegations, stage left. The accused is a 17-year veteran of the NYPD and his defense counsel will have us believe he only became a dirty cop this year. Trial, woe, apology, contrition, and finally begging the mercy of the court.
Then he gets re-hired (with back pay, and promotions he missed) - because the Police union found a loop hole.
There are many cops who have had years of history and are still on the force - or like a week sports player, ar traded to a weaker team or sent down to a farm team. For a while..
He hasn't been accused of anything. They are conducting an investigation for possible involvement. There is a difference.
Let's not jump to conclusions. It's perfectly reasonable that a Police Detective would be unawares of crimes going on in the home he shares with his cousin. Kidnapping, credit card making machinery - I imagine all this was kept hidden under a pillow fort.
/angry snark
You're right, it is amazing what you can hide in plain sight under copious amounts of decorative throw-pillows. I think that is how the mob hid Jimmy Hoffa.
You guys are funny!
Sanford FL has some good cops....you do the crime, well, you know what happens!
Who watches the watchmen?
WE THE PEOPLE.
Not true. We the so called people, watch MMA, and NASCAR, and the NFL. The vast majority of us don't "watch" anything of importance or substance. The requisite attention span doesn't exist in them any longer. It has been "brainwashed" out of them. Try telling them what they are missing, and they respond with "Whatever?!?!"
You can show them WTC#7 being IMPLODED on 9/11/2001, and the Twin Towers being sequentially EXPLODED from the top down, in slow motion, and they still can't fathom that the Mainstream Media is, and has been, LYING to them for 13 years.
Paul, I can assure you that we are not the same people. I uphold and respect the rights and views of people who watch MMA, NASCAR, NFL, MTV, as well as gays, lesbians, Latinos, Blacks, Whites, Asians, and of course, "alternative thinkers" like you.
But rest assured, we are not the same people.
None of us are the same people.........., you're not making much of a point. THE MAJORITY of Americans are totally distracted IGNORANTS. If you don't know that FOX"NEWS" sued for the right to KNOWING LIE to you, then you are one of the IGNORANTS.
I agree with most of your points, Paul. But I do not think 9/11 was a conspiracy. Do you also think the moon landing was faked?
You simply refuse to "think" that 9/11 could have been a DOMESTIC conspiracy. You are being a willing ignorant on the subject of 9/11, because you have been brainwashed to believe that it is patriotic to accept the government's "conspiracy theory", for which they STILL refuse to provide us with ANY PROOF. 9/11/2001 was the date of a MASS MURDER of 2972 Americans on American soil and there has yet to be any investigation done by a body with SUBPOENA power to examine the crime. That is wrong and completely un-American, yet you equate it with a Moon landing. SAD.......
You go Paul. I'm with ya.
I am always surprised that the 911 theory of planned implosion/explosions doesn't match any facts. Those buildings were not put up by men jumping out of helicopters in black jumpsuits, but by the New York Ironworkers Union. It is WAY stretching it to accuse unions; those buildings were giving a lot of middle-lower middle class people a living wage. I knew the family that put in the lovely blue carpet. But, I do believe that the architect relied too heavily on little pins between support beams and the outer shell of the buildings, making them terribly weak. Any strong hurricane would have taken them all out. But what possible conspiracy could match those planes? Well, I think the edge of it was slightly hinted at by Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911." This was not a conspiracy well-thought out, but a conspiracy of neglect of the American people, especially common citizens in high-population areas on the east coast: military bases had been closed after 1993 around New York City. The closest military that could have done rescue were down in Norfolk, VA, making sure that the local NYPD and Firefighters had to take the loss of life. And also, months of vacations that Bush took in early 2001: not one small trip, but most of the time absent and ignoring reports handed to Condoleza Rice about the threats; something could have been done. But the conspiracy was mostly just neglect to act and something bad would happen (not necessarily known what) and then there would be an excuse to go to war. But that's enough of a colossal crime to me. And justice still has not been done.
Neglect is what you are now guilty of, Elizabeth. You ignore the evidence of thermite in the dust that covered lower Manhattan, and repeat the lie that the buildings were in some way weak. What they were was filled with ASBESTOS which needed to be removed, at the cost to either the owner or Silverstein of 100s of Million$. The concrete floors didn't fall and "pancake", they were converted into dust while falling through the air. Only exothermic reactions and explosions can do that. The government didn't just let it happen, they made it happen. That is why they are willing to engage in dereliction of duty by not allowing a subpoena empowered investigation of 9/11. It's a date, not an emergency number.
So what you are saying is that the twin towers were defective buildings that needed billions of dollars in repairs, upgrades etc.. or needed to be completely torn down. The owners didn't want the responsibility, the financial liability etc. etc.. so the American government knowingly went along with a plot to have the buildings destroyed by an "act of terrorism" instead of taking care of the problems?? A win-win for the building owners and a government that wanted to go to war??? They knowingly and deliberatly murdered either by the act or after the facts thousands of Americans to acheive these goals???
Interesting conspiracy theory Paul. When are you writing the screenplay and how much do you think "hollywood" will give you for your tale???
The screenplay was already written an executed, prior to 9/11/2001. The first episode of the X-Files spinoff, "The Lone GUNMEN" dealt with this very issue and the flight computer of a commercial airliner being "hijacked" remotely to crash into the WTC North Tower. Condi Rice LIED whe she said no one in government had ever contemplated airliners being used as missiles. And 50 people at CIA were aware that "al-qaeda" terrrorists were in our country for the ten months prior to 9/11, and all of them refused to share that information with the FBI to track them, and two FBI liason agents to the CIA's Alec station were forbidden by their CIA overseers to notify anyone at the FBI of their knowledge of al-qaeda in the USA prior to 9/11/2001.
Wat to stay uninformed, skrewdworld.
Johnson is more than likely to be involved in this kidnapping and will eventually be charged. I do not see he could walk on this seeing how the victim was found in his garage. He needs to go down with his family member as part of whatever was going on.
I have a feeling the cousin will be "found dead" before he has a chance to be "interviewed".
Did I read that right? He was Suspended?? Why wasn't he Arrested on the spot?? This cop lives there and he didn't know what was going on? We are always fed this $#$#@%# that Cops are here to Protect and Serve. Yeah Right.
They protect themselves and they serve themselves
actually they protect and serve their corporate masters.
They had to give him a chance to destroy evidence, and he would have known what to destroy.
I don't see what the big deal is...times are hard, a lot of people have to work second jobs or moonlight. What's a man in blue to do?
IF he was NOT aware of what was going on (with both the kidnapping AND the credit card making equipment), he is seriously DEFICIENT, and should not be a police officer, whose powers of OBSERVATION are his most important tool. Come on, this is ridiculous. Hang him out to dry.
You've got to be kidding me. This officer gets suspended, and is going to be questioned. He is just as much involved as his cousin. I don't care if he lived in the other half of the house. Johnson had to know, and was probably involved, but because he's one of New York's finest, he wil just walk away. No jail time, no penalties, just released to go about his life. So the answer here is, in life if you want to do something corrupt, become a police officer first. Then if you get caught, you'll just have to give up your badge. How Dam**d pathetic the police are becoming.
Found becauce of cell phone pings. These culprits better stick to 'rocket science', because anybody with a clue should know that someone missing can be located by their cell phone . At least if they're in jail they can't dilute the gene pool anymore.
Perhaps they erroneously thought that turning it, the cell phone, off would disable the GPS locator function, and the GPS record being held by his service provider.
It's called collecting evidence. Arresting someone too soon can screw up the case later, when it goes to court. If he's involved or had knowledge, he will be arrested. It can be frustrating, but following the rules is critical to obtaining a conviction. Let them do their job.
Do you mean we should trust them? LOL
If this was you, underemployed, you'd be in the pokie right now. A double standard has always existed when it comes to cops. And it always will.
It will screw the case completely if a trained police detective who knows what evidence is important is allowed to go around the property he owns destroying evidence. At the very least he should have been required to stay away from home wearing a tracking device to make sure he stayed away while others could examine the property for evidence. There will be no evidence; just watch. No evidence will be as damning as lots.
Normal people in this situation are charged with kidnapping. Cops are suspended. No double standard at all here.
This only goes to show that the thugs with badges get away with everything, Bloomberg needs to resign and take his Nazi police commisioner with him.
Another crooked police officer, it's almost not even news anymore!
Honestly speaking, I doubt the police officer knew about the situation. Being a 17 year vet, he would have known to dispose of that guys' cellphone. That's literally the first thing that's tracked by the police. His cousin and his buddies most likely did it without his knowledge, thinking that the police would never look at a cops residence. Clearly, his cousin is a complete imbecile. The fact that the police officer is not being charged with kidnapping as well, tells me that there was clear separation between where he occupied on a regular basis, and where his deadbeat cousin squatted at. Gotta be careful who you let around you, especially when your position is suppose to be one that's held to a higher moral standard. Just my opinion.
If this were a "civilian", the courts would say he should have known.
Carl, how do you know the victim was a guy???? And "disposing" of a cell phone isn't necessary. You only need to remove the battery to stop the GPS locator. Just in case you ever need to know:)
The cell phone will "ping" its last location to the service provider before the electric power is removed. Not all batteries can be removed.
Once that cell phone arrived on the property, it could have been tracked. If I were a detective, and knew, I might have removed evidence of my involvement, but left the cell phone... because he probably didn't want to be charged with murder-kidnapping, and was conflicted. But sure, that is reading a lot into this. The point is, it is possible to find excuses for him knowing about the crime but still leaving the cell phone.
No, and based solely on the story, I do not believe you can assume the officer knew or should have known what was going on in the adjoining home.
I'm not saying he's innocent, only that we don't know enough yet to make any assumptions.
I'm with dman on this one. I disagree that he should have known. It was a duplex. If he had gone snooping into another person's house or garage without a warrant would you complain about that?
You appear to be one of the few who read the article
hmmm.... doesn't this look funny.....
