Andrea Sneiderman, widow of businessman killed outside Dunwoody, Ga., day care, charged with murder

Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP

Putnam County sheriff's deputies lead Andrea Sneiderman from her parents' home on Lake Oconee near Eatonton, Ga., after arresting her Thursday.

Updated at 2:08 p.m. ET: Andrea Sneiderman, the widow of a businessman who was gunned down by her former boss outside a Georgia day care center, was charged Thursday with murder and other crimes connected to the slaying.

Prosecutors contend she conspired with her then-supervisor, with whom she was allegedly having an affair, to have her husband killed so she could collect on $2 million in life insurance policies.

A team of Putnam County and DeKalb County law officers went to Sneiderman’s home in Eatonton, Ga., and took her into custody Thursday morning.

The arrest occurred after a DeKalb County grand jury returned an indictment on charges of malice murder, attempted murder, racketeering, insurance fraud, two counts of perjury and two counts of making false statements.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James announced the charges at an afternoon press conference but refused to elaborate on the nature of the evidence.

"Our collective goal is to continue to seek justice and preserve the public safety of our community, not only for the Sneiderman family but for anyone who has lost a loved one because of a violent crime," he said.

James said the arrest was the result of several months' work. "We’re going to put all the facts and the evidence out there and at the end of the day it’s going to be up to a jury to make a decision in this case," he said.

The jury in the Dunwoody day care murder trial found defendant Hemy Newman guilty but mentally ill in the shooting of Rusty Sneiderman, but the victim's family tells TODAY they still want answers. NBC's Dennis Murphy reports.

Sneiderman, a 36-year-old mother of two, was booked Thursday into the DeKalb County Jail. She will likely be arraigned within the next month, James said.

Sneiderman's attorney, J. Tom Morgan, said she "categorically" denies the charges.

"There's no way we can know what evidence was presented in secret chamber. That's why we have juries, and people who know nothing about this case will be able to make a decision at that time," Morgan said.

Rusty Sneiderman was shot to death on the morning of Nov. 18, 2010, after he dropped off his son at a Dunwoody day care facility.

The case drew national attention after authorities arrested Hemy Neuman, Andrea Sneiderman's boss at the General Electric complex in Marietta, and charged him with the slaying.

At trial earlier this year, Neuman was found guilty but mentally ill after acknowledging he shot Rusty Sneiderman multiple times.

Prosecutors contended Neuman and Andrea Sneiderman were having an affair and Neuman wanted to get rid of his romantic rival. Andrea Sneiderman testified that they never did more than hold hands.

Neuman is serving a term of life without parole at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson.

In June, Andrea Sneiderman filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Neuman. She formally denied being his co-conspirator and said in the lawsuit that Neuman acted alone.

The indictment returned Thursday against Andrea Sneiderman alleges she plotted with Neuman to have her husband killed so she could acquire his money and property. Rusty Sneiderman had two life insurance policies with a combined payout value of $2 million and individual and joint accounts totaling more than $960,000.

“Neuman and Andrea Sneiderman conspired together to murder Rusty Sneiderman so that they could enjoy a life together, eliminate Neuman’s debt problems, and fully benefit from the assets the Sneidermans had acquired as well as the proceeds of Rusty Sneiderman’s life insurance policies,” the indictment says.

During their affair, Andrea Sneiderman and Neuman took business trips together and Neuman asked her to be with him forever and to marry him, prosecutors allege.

On the morning of the slaying, Neuman disguised himself with a fake beard, drove to the Dunwoody day care in a rented van and shot Rusty Sneiderman four times with a handgun.

Andrea Sneiderman collected on the death benefits of her husband’s life insurance policies a few months after the murder, according to the indictment.

the story is about the empowered woman who is also a suspect.

but she'll get the "FEMALE" double standard treatment and will of course, found to be guilty, will recieve little on no sentence.....because she has a vagina.

    the Courts LOVE vagina.

    penis - not so much.

wild P doesn't watch many crime magazine shows. Or else he would know juries LOVE to convict cheating, conniving vaginas

So one big detail left out. What happened to the money? Did she spend it all in 3 years? Why the hell don't insurance companies hold policy payouts until these types of investigations are closed? It'll only make the murderers spend or stash the money faster if a life sentence is looming over them!

I have a question? If she wanted the money so bad why did she wait afew months before cashing it in?? Most people cash in the policies right away.... I used to work as an insurance agent and that was the usual procedure.

Maybe this guy had a crush on her and was wishing she would marry him if her husband was out of the way?? Makes ya wonder.

Besides, after awhile, all of them sound alike. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...(translation).....I want to kill you for your money.........so if you hear that sound late at night while you are sleeping, be afraid......be very very afraid.

The irony here is that she could have easily divorced him and would have gotten the house, half the assets, the kid and a ton of child support, then could have married her boss anyway. What a couple of morons; they really should fry her.

Oh please, she will go to trial BECAUSE she is a woman! Too many American men still hold on to the notion that women are basically evil, kinda like those you make fun of in the middle east.

I bet that she did not really have an affair with this dumb guy. She probably figured out he was "mentally ill" before everyone else, promised him love forever, held hands, and talked him into killing her husband. Not the first time that a person got manipulated into murdering for love. I bet she had no intention of actually being with this guy.

And Elaine - she waited for 6 months precisely because she didn't want to appear suspicious. She was playing the grief-stricken widow who forgot all about the insurance money, no doubt.

She will not get the female double standard. The double standard seems to occur for certain sex crimes, primariy rape of a minor male. The discrepancies in sentences and charges can be substantial between men and women with similar crimes. Murder is another story however. There seems to be a double standard for the death penalty in murder cases. Some women have manipulated assault to claim self defense or mitigating circumstances in some murder cases. However, I do not see any such claims in this case. If she is convicted, she will receive harsh treatment.

that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! $2million is chump, chump, chump change to an insurer! Besides that 100% for sure the KIDS would get the money they'd just deny it to the murderer! In any event be happy insurers do look at how someone died and the circumstances. If not someone could take out a policy on you and get rich. These companies aren't stupid. They know there's scummy people like this out there so they do check. That's a good thing.

Great work for the DA of DeKalb County. This arrest does not come as a suprise to anyone. The DA has done an incredible job on this case. If he had gone after the wife with the husband being shot to death in front of the daycare, then the Jewish Community, with the high population in Dunwoody, would have made every effort to remove the DA, if possible. It appears that the DA let Sneiderman hang herself in the courtroom and she did a good job, too. I do not believe that she will get special treatment.

                          Much more information here:

She has previously denied any involvement in her husband's murder and insists she was never romantically involved with Hemy Neuman, her former supervisor at GE Energy who acknowledged shooting Rusty Sneiderman in November 2010.

Attorneys for Neuman, who is currently serving a life sentence without parole after a jury found him guilty but mentally ill in the murder, say their client is willing to cooperate with prosecutors in their case against Andrea Sneiderman.

"His perspective on things is definitely different," Neuman attorney Bob Rubin said..

"He now sees how Andrea played him like a yo-yo," Rubin said.

Eight days before her husband's murder, the indictment states, Sneiderman "provided Neuman with Rusty Sneiderman's schedule for the morning of November 10, 2010," along with an escape route — a hidden path near the Sneidermans' home in Dunwoody. Neuman had planned to kill Rusty Sneiderman that day at the Sneidermans' residence. The plan was thwarted when Rusty Sneiderman smelled a gas leak and discovered Neuman, dressed in a disguise, hiding outside his house. Sneiderman did not recognize Neuman, who fled.

On Nov. 18, according to the indictment, Andrea Sneiderman again informed Neuman of her husband's schedule. Shortly after 9 a.m. in the parking lot of Dunwoody Prep, just after Rusty Sneiderman had dropped off his son, Neuman approached the 36-year-old entrepreneur and shot him several times with a gun he bought on Halloween.

Following her husband's murder, Andrea Sneiderman "misled police by indicating she was not in a relationship with Neuman," according to the indictment. She later told close friend Shayna Citron she "thought Neuman killed her husband," but the widow did not tell police. On Dec. 30, Sneiderman allegedly told another friend, Tammy Parker, that she knew her former supervisor was the killer but again did not share that information with authorities.

Citron's testimony is likely to factor heavily in one of the false statement charges against Sneiderman involving her actions on the day of her husband's shooting. During Neuman's trial, Citron testified that Sneiderman called her while heading for Atlanta Medical Center — where Rusty Sneiderman was pronounced dead — and said he had been shot.

That morning, Sneiderman was contacted by an administrator at the day care and told only there had been an accident not involving her son, Ian.

After Citron testified, Sneiderman stood up, kissed her on the lips, then hugged her as she left the courtroom. Sneiderman then walked outside to castigate her friend for betraying her.

Superior Court Judge Gregory Adams later barred Sneiderman from the courthouse for disruptive behavior and engaging witnesses even after she was told not to do so.

Sneiderman later testified that she did not learn what had happened to her husband until she arrived at the hospital. It would prove to be a crucial admission, as her father-in-law, Don Sneiderman, joined Citron in testifying that Sneiderman called — before she got to the hospital — to tell them about the shooting.

"She sank her own ship with that testimony," said Citron's attorney, Jay Abt, adding he doubts Sneiderman would have been indicted had she not taken the stand in Neuman's trial. "They set a trap and she walked right into it."

Rusty Sneiderman's family released a statement expressing gratitude to the district attorney's office for its "relentless pursuit of the truth in this case."

The family went on to say, "This action, however, brings us no joy."

Andrea Sneiderman remains incarcerated in the DeKalb jail. A bond hearing has been set for Aug. 21.

I remembering hearing a lot about this on the news after the murder happened. At first I felt like it was this nice little couple with two kids, and her infatuated boss killed the father in front of the daycare so he could have Andrea all to himself. While I was watching the trial, there was NO WAY this woman wasn't guilt in the conspiracy to kill her husband. This was a very coniving, hateful woman and proved it to me by ALL of her actions in court. She was heartless about the death of her husband from day one.

So hearing today that she was charged, makes my day!!! The defense wouldn't want me as a juror unless something drastically could change my mind!!!

It doesn't take a psychic to read human behavior. When she stood up and hugged her friend in the courtroom, she wasn't having a sweet moment with a friend: she was taking control. (I could list a half a dozen other examples; the woman was blatant.) She's a narcissist of the worst kind. She'll be a lawyer's worst client: trying to run things from start to finish. That, and she's a client who's guilty as hell, of course.

Yeah the girl who got raped shouldn't have dressed like that either. Come on, the victim is not responsible when people scheme. That's the whole point of a scheme, the person who is the victim has no idea.

That doesn't mean he didn't need to do his homework. Really, prevention is the only way to avoid crime.

Chris - How, exactly, does a person "do homework" in order to see that their life is in danger from their spouse? REally - blaming the victim makes absolutely no sense.

Ummm, it's hard to do your "homework" when you don't know anything is going on, some people are great actors/actresses! The signs aren't always there, especially if the cheating spouse is carrying on like everything is normal. In most cases, it takes time-sometimes several months or even year(s) before an affair starts to unravel and become known to them or others. Maybe he trusted her and had no reason to believe or suspect this was going on. Obviously, she was one hell of an actress!

In a marriage, you'd like to able to think you can trust the fact that your spouse ISN'T GOING TO KILL YOU!

Gee, I hope my soon to be x doesn't read this article because I would hate to end up like Rusty. As for the vagina logic, it is very much alive and ready to scam as we try and hammer out a divorce agreement. Any more I lock the door to my room at night because I want to make sure I at least have a chance of waking up in the morning without a set of steak knives stuck in my chest and other regions of my body. I do have quite a bit of life insurance but the up side is that I have my two children down as the beneficiaries. She is not happy about that and even went so far as to demand that I put her down as the sole beneficiary but I told her she could go pound sand.

Smart move making the kids beneficiary. More than that it's the right move. They say kids suffer from an entitlement mentality these days. If they do, it's because they learned it from the divorced gold diggers who raised them.

I can't believe any spouse believes they can get away with something like this. Without any law enforcement background, my first thought (and I'm sure everyone else's) when reading about the man being assasinated in front of the daycare, was that the wife did it. When the former boss of the wife was arrested, it seemed only a matter of time before the wife's arrest would follow. With a $2 million life insurance payout, this one was pretty easy for the cops - just find the emails, phone conversations, texts between the p-whipped boss and his lover (black widow), get her to hang herself at the bosses trial, tie up loose ends and make arrest. I'm sure a plea deal will soon follow - a jury will not be sympathetic to this evil woman.

I live in Dunwoody, Georgia, and I am so happy to read this!!! Everyone in Atlanta wants to see her charged with murder. She lied on the witness stand during Hemy Newman's trial and threw the guy under the bus. What a f**ling bitch! I hope justice is served. On a separate note, my god there are a lot of stupid posts on this vine! Are we children here?

Stupid, stupid stupid and selfish if she is guilty. If she is convicted then she loses not only her freedom but her kids, which is probably not a big deal to her since she was willing to kill their father. What a selfish bitch.

This isn't GE's fault. Those two just happened to work for GE. If it's true though, she is a cold-hearted person. She gave no thought to the fact that her child would have a front row seat to his dad's murder. That's just wrong.

The girl should have known that if you are going to have an affair and kill hubby for the money you are suppose to have your boy friend do the killing for you. She must not ever watch tv. Where is the money? I guess the boy friend was very smart. Just a guess.

Did you read the article? If so, you need some help with reading comprehension. The boyfriend did kill her husband. The boyfriend was not smart and neither is she. He was found guilty but insane and got a life sentence in the state hospital. She won't be so lucky. From the sound of things, she's headed to the big house for life.

How can a parent do this to their children? They no longer have parents and have to live with the (apparent) fact that their mom murdered their dad.

If the D.A. has new evidence that wasn't at the trial, I will keep an open mind. Otherwise, this is a load of bull@!$%#. Nothing at the trial made me believe that she was involved with the murder. And the indictment was terrible. "She and hemy talked on the phone while he was at a gun shop"? Seriously, that's the evidence? "She lied about sharing a hotel room." No one saw anything...that isn't evidence, thats the D.A. wanting it to be true...not the same thing. "A Waitress saw them kissing." One waitress, who never met them before and never saw them after, remembers a random middle aged couple dancing at a bar 6-8 months later and remembers everything about them? Really? That's the D.A.'s whole case?

I really doubt that that is James' whole case. My guess is that, in addition to all of the evidence you listed, we're going to see Hemy "flip". Sad story - 2 families destroyed.

It would seem logical that the killer and so-called lover would rat her out for a better deal. If he didn't, how would they put it together that she was in on it? If he did implicate her, why did it take so long to arrest her?

OK so she may be guilty but we have to keep in mind that at grand jury hearings the potential defendant may not be called for her side of the story and if she is called, her lawyer cannot be there.

I'm wondering why they have not released the information that lead to the arrest? All that stuff is supposed to be public.

I was a victim of an over-zealous District attorney and it took spending a nearly year in jail before the US Supreme court set me free.

It seems to me there is far more to this than we can see at this time.
