4 killed, 10 wounded as Chicago's violent summer wears on

Four people were killed and 10 wounded in several shootings Thursday in Chicago, falling in line with a violent summer.

Three 16-year-old boys were in a garage in the East Garfield Park neighborhood Thursday afternoon when two people walked up and opened fire, according to the Chicago Tribune. Two of the injured attempted to run away but did not make it far before collapsing, police said. The third boy survived.

Hours later a garage in the South Austin neighborhood was the scene of another shooting. Two 52-year-old men were struck, one of them fatally, according to police. The wounded man shouted for someone to call police and waited on a nearby porch until help arrived, police said.

Another man, the fourth of the afternoon, was shot several times and pronounced dead at Roseland Community Hospital. The 31-year-old was discovered in the 11200 block of South Langley Avenue in the Pullman neighborhood.

Six more shootings left eight others wounded.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel recognized the high crime presence earlier this month when he proposed a gun control ordinance. Police Supt. Garry McCarthy this week said he is encouraged by the falling crime rates. The 49 homicides in July were six less than the previous year, McCarthy said.

And the illustrious Mayor Rahm Emanuel is concerned about Chick-Fil-A opening a store in Chicago.

Hey, Let's boycott Chick-Fil-a, oops, sorry wrong story. On another note, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said he is encouraged by the falling crime rates. The 49 homicides in July were six less than the previous year. I just love how these Liberals always have a spin on things. Again, dodging the real issues that really need to be addressed. Hope & change in Chicago & the rest of our country. Just gotta love it, right Liberals?

Yup. As a Chicagoan, I'm ashamed that the city is more worried about people's personal opinions regarding hot button issues than crime.

See that guy that just got murdered? Who? The 52 year old mechanic shot and killed while fixing a car with his friend. Nope, didn't see it, however, did you hear about the CEO of Chic-fil-A's opinion? So inhumane, not Chicago values!

Absolutely right! It disappoints me that local and national media give the mayor a pass on Chicago's murders and then lavish him with praise for taking a stand AGAINST freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

Rahm Emanuel is such a loser. Don't understand how the people of Chicago voted for this man.

Want to see hate given towards an innocent Chick-fil-A employee then watch this video. Sad to think that Rahm Emanuel agrees with this man. It's going viral:

Early this spring a family from South Chicago moved into my neighborhood "to get away from the violence and crime". We all understood that and welcomed them to our neighborhood. Pretty soon burgleries started happening in the area, all during the day when most people were at work. One of the sons tried breaking into our house, (I was home because it was my day off), I just turned my rather sizeable dog loose on him and he ran home screaming with the dog in hot pursuit. When I followed to get my dog, I told him he could tell his mom himself what happened or since I know her, I would.

Shortly after that they started having yard parties every Friday and Saturday nights. No problem, except by 10pm everyone there was drunk and loud, by 11pm they were fighting and brawling in their yard and in the street. Then about midnight or 1am they were shooting guns in the air and at houses. WHOA! Everyone on the block starting calling the police every time the gunfire started. By the 4th and 5th weekend of this happening, we all started calling as soon the the brawls moved into the middle of the street.

This family walked up and down the street after that yelling we are all racists, we don't allow people to have fun, and they're moving somewhere else that is friendly. The truth is this, we have a multicultural neighborhood with families that are African Americans, white, Hispanic, Asian, native American, and eastern Europeans living here. We all get along, our children all play together peacefully, we have a summer block party in which everyone brings a dish native to their culture, (I've gotten a lot of really great recipes at the block parties). But not wanting brawling in the street by 6 or 8 drunks, (men and women), and someone shooting pistols in the air and at houses all night every weekend makes us racists according to the family that moved. I think it makes a normal Americans, putting up with the brawls and gunfire makes them from South Chicago. Glad they left and sorry for their new neighbors where ever they moved to!

    Wow!

I suppose when your murder rate drops from 55 to only 49 for the month, that's worth celebrating....

    Only in Chicago!

Strike that. Make that most any large city that has been financially devastated by the financial wreck.

Well, it's all about denial and messing around with statistics. For example, the crime rate of last year might have been higher than ever, so if the current statistic is lower, it's obvious to compare. Meaning, Last year the murder year was higher than ever, but this year it's second highest, that's an improvement right? When the murders go higher, they compare it to the 90's where it was higher, still an improvement right? It's all about denial.

Mr. Emanuel, considering Illinois and Chicago already have some of the most draconian "gun laws" in the country, what good may I ask will another do? You're SUPPOSED to be a bright man, yet you haven't been able to grasp the concept that CRIMINALS do not obey the law. Even YOU should be able to understand that is why they are called CRIMINALS.

How about this as a suggestion.

Go after the DIRTBAGS that are committing the crimes. I will guarantee you, any firearm that even a dirtbag carries, does NOT FIRE ITSELF. It takes the DIRTBAG to accomplish that task.

And to the PEOPLE of Chicago.

YOU KNOW WHO THE DIRTBAGS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS ARE. IF YOU DON'T TURN THEM IN, THE NEXT MURDER IS YOUR OWN FAULT. YOU ENCOURAGE THE BEHAVIOR BY REMAINING QUIET.

Truth is that many people in the most filled crime neighborhoods don't want to turn in their family members. So, someone gets killed, it's usually a stranger passing by or someone truly tired of crime that talks to police. Most of the time police get a cold stare and shooed away when investigating murder scenes because they don't walk to talk to them because it's a relative or friend that committed the crime.

I believe the last statistic said that only 34% of all murders are solved in Chicago due to lack of cooperation from relatives and family. Those that do get solved are because of good police work (even when people didn't want to help) or someone actually talked.

Let us not forget this is Rahm Emanuel who said "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste". Nice work, Rahm! You learned well from your former boss - "It can't be my fault! Find someone, something other than me to blame and hurry as you don't want any of that sh*t to stick to me!" Once a weasel, always a weasel! Rahm Emanuel for Prez! Why do you think that weasel left the WH? Mayor of Chicago, Governor of Illinois (nah, he'll skip that step like his former boss did) and then POTUS!

Chicago has crime? Really? Since when?

But wait! Don't they have a DEMOCRATIC Mayor?

Isn't that Mayor a "product of the Obama Administration?"

But, back in 2008, when Obama was running for President, one of Obama's "claims to fame" was?

That Obama was "some kind of INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!"

As a matter of fact, Obama was "actually compared to Jesus Christ for his incredible Organizational skills!"

So, between the "Christ-like Community Organizer Obama and Mayor Dumb Emanuel"... one would have thought Chicago would be some sort of Utopia by now?

    WHAT the heck happened?

    Don't worry all you Chicagoans!

Obama will be back in town around January 21st, 2013 :-)

Then Obama can "Organize everything just like he did before... right?"

You seem to forget that Chicago is composed of hundreds of neighborhoods and communities. If Obama was a community organizer, it doesn't mean he did that in all communities as it would be impossible. Also, Rahm has had influence and power since the Clinton administration. Get your facts straight before rambling pointlessly.

I enjoy Rahm "Rod" Emanuel's immediate and public attempt to ban a lousy Chik-Fil-A restaurant in Chitcago. I wonder if he has tallied the current butcher's bill for the city that blows. Let's see... about 310 so far? Over 90% of the victims were minorities, almost 50 of these were school age children. One victim, little Heaven Sutton, was only 7. SEVEN? Democrats can talk a good game all they want but Hope and Change™ has clearly passed over minorities when a Baptist businessman's views on gay marriage can trump Rahm's little slice of Rwanda on the agenda list. By the way, the current death toll in Afghanistan? 272? The greatest Afghanistan death toll for any FULL year under BUSH never exceeded 295. Just how important is Chik-Fil-A? Just how unimportant are the citizens of Chicago?

Has any one compared the Illegal use of firearms as opposed to the legal ones as in the theater a few weeks back? Or dose everybody just want to ban the evil guns not the thugs pulling the triggers.

Maybe it is time to move the line in the sand with respect to the theater thug, professionals knew he was fraying, RED FLAG the individual, instead of "amber alert". Take the guns and ammo, and investigate.

Call it a civil restraining order.

I went thru a divorce and had a bogus restraining order placed against me. Legal fees cost me $43,000 to reverse the restraining order. I could have bought replacement hardware for far less $$$. But because I like the particular nuances of my equipment, I wanted my things back. Kind of like when EBay shoppers see red the bids increase I suppose.

Point is, my arms still to this day, years later have not wandered out on their own and killed any living person. (chipmunks, and squirrels, well everyone needs an outlet when they are gardening.)

This crap is ridiculous. So people cant even sit in their Garages anymore without idiot, punk, wanna-be Gang Members (young teens trying to pretend to be tough) shooting at them. This place needs the National Guard to come in and enforce curfews and if any of these fukkersare caught riding with more than 2 people in the car, pull them over and search the car! Screw their rights!

You can ride around all over the City of San Diego and the bordering Cities in the County of San Diego (1.75 Million residents) and see people sitting in their Garages (make shift Dens/ Man Caves) and this DOES NOT happen! And we have plenty of Gang Members in San Diego too. Chicago has gotten out of control and the Police arent Policing!

I'm of the mind that the military isn't the best answer to civil disturbances, but the people of Chicago deserve better law enforcement than they are recieving. Chicago has tough gun control laws so only Democrat Drug Gangs have guns (no Chicago Black would ever vote Republican). Why aren't there Federal Troops in Chicago? Maybe UN troops! Or why aren't there laws banning gangs! It isn't the guns! These thugs will knife you if they don't have their gun. Where's the national outrage about the Chicago killings. Is it because the dead are Blacks? Is Obama and his news media racist? Why hasn't Jesse Jackson come to Chicago to fight the gangs? Where is the news media? Well, the Chicago media often covers up Black slaughters.
