Liz Thompson announced she would step down as president of the Susan G. Komen Foundation in September.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure shook up its top leadership Wednesday announcing the resignation of its president and shifting role for its CEO and founder, Nancy Brinker. Two members of its board of directors also announced their resignations.
Komen President Liz Thompson announced plans to leave the organization in September. Meanwhile, Komen Founder and CEO Nancy Brinker will shift to a new management role as chair of the Komen Board Executive Committee when the search for a new senior executive is finished.

Komen also said that Brenda Lauderback and Linda Law, who have served on their board since 2008 and 2009 respectively, are leaving the board of directors.
"The legacy will continue," Thompson said in a released statement. "It has been a privilege and an honor to serve in this role."
Regarding new role, Brinker said, "I was asked by the Board in 2009 to assume the CEO role. Three years into that role, and 32 years after my promise to my sister to end breast cancer, I want to focus on Susan G. Komen's global mission and raising resources to bring our promise to women all around the world."

The shakeup at the top comes after a controversial decision earlier this year by the national foundation to cut breast-cancer screening grants to Planned Parenthood.
The national Komen headquarters announced in January that it was pulling funding from Planned Parenthood because of a government investigation, citing a probe launched by a Florida congressman at the urging of anti-abortion groups. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., wanted to look into accusations that Planned Parenthood had improperly used public funds for abortions.

Nancy G. Brinker founded the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in honor of her sister. She has been shifted to a new role, the foundation announced Wednesday.
Komen was blasted for the decison. Days later, the national organization reversed its position.
Cheryl Shaw, Executive Director of the Puget Sound Komen chapter, told KING 5 in February the local chapter was opposed to the funding guidelines from the beginning.
Did Komen overstate cancer screening benefits?
"When the decision became public, we wrote a letter to our national office and told them we were totally against this policy, that it had an adverse effect on our work here in the Puget Sound area and it really took us off of our mission,” Shaw said. “Our mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever."
Unfortunately for Komen, its local chapters and the millions of women they support by promoting breast health and cancer screenings, the damage was done.

Wouldn't it be nice if just once the Rightwing religious fanatics would stay out of everything in the universe. I'm so sick of these supposed "religious" people that don't have a clue about what Christ was teaching us. At best they are hypocrits; at worst they are liars and demagogues.
John Denver--hope that 'rocky mountain high wears off. It's NOT just the RIGHT that is anti abortion, gay rights, et al unless you honestly think that all the liberals went out and voted in favor of Obama in 2008 in CA, and accidentally FORGOT to voted against prop 8, or that all the RIGHT wingers voted FOR prop 8 and forgot to vote for Mccain?
The big increase in DEM registrations is in CATHOLIC people, and they all go right along with the POPE.
And PS, the Catholics are just as hypocritical as any other judgmental Christians, and YOU too are being judgmental.
You don't have to be a right winger for that--witness all the folks who immediately decide if you don't walk in lock-step with the DEMS you "MUST" be a racist, even if you VOTED for Obama.
This organization is a sham. I used to participate in fundraisng but never again. This group of mercenaries prey on people. They are a front for their personal political beliefs and the millions that they raise so they can live the good life while women with cancer die. I am a cancer survior. I know what it is to live, like you are dying. This group is rotten at the top.
Lets just be honest with abortion......it has its pro's and con's...............quite literally in that regard.
As of now, and how it has been , things "are really" how the seem........
Lets face the facts....
Pro-life folks haven't had their door kicked in by a child with no parents or parents in jail, or on welfare......
Pro-choice folks haven't been inspired by any underprivileged characters in Disney movies......
So why stop abortion period..............just stop and think of the following
1)Do I want to pay more taxes
2)Do I want to pay for some else's kids
3)Do I want to pay for someone that their own creator doesn't value
4)Do I want to pay taxes for Rehabilitation of these children that shoot me in the back
5)Do I want to subsidize student loans for these children that don't try....
I'm sorry nay-sayers but nothing will change until "shame" becomes a currency.
Every year thousands of women( and men) raise money for cancer research and a cure--much of this money goes to the Komen Foudation, where it is CLAIMED that the money is then used for research. Wake up all you people who are bustin' your butts to put on fund raisers for something that is not going to be allowed to happen. Big Pharma, M.D.s, and yes, the Komen Foundation would lose millions if "they" allowed a cure. The cure is there, but you will not see it being used any time soon. And yes, whenever a doctor or someone discovers a cure---BAMO--those who profit want to shut them down. Do your homework, do your own research--find out the truth. I no longer support any cancer fund raisers-- I have had loved ones die from cancer--actually it was the poisoning from the chemo and radiation that killed them. Sooo, the next time you decide to support the Komen Foundation, American Cancer Society, or any other group, think again. Who is really getting your money?????
Just like the Red Cross, United Way, etc. The vast majority of contributions to "public charities" is never spent for their "exempt purpose."
Most everyone out here has no idea what they are talking about. PP may not be perfect but who is. A woman dies last month while an abortion was being performed. How many deaths have the meat industry has caused? The Dairy counsel? What have YOU done lately to help with a cause for breast or any other type of cancer? What? It is so easy for folks to sit by their computers and dog people who, although may not be completely not perfect, are still TRYING to do something give back to the world. Pull your heads out of your #&% and get up and do something. NOW! Do it. Don't be like the rest of these judgmental, ignorant people who have never had to deal with cancer on the level of finding cures and distributions of money. Yes, I am talking to you and you know who you are. Right wing and left wing. Who gives a #&%@. Do you think cancer discriminates against party lines? Get real....NOW before you make me puke. That's my challenge to you. Yes you. Get up and do something or keep your mouth shut because you have no clue as to what your talking about.
Komen made an error of judgement and did not respond rapidly and failed to fully back away from the stance established by a manager that had a history of working against a woman's right to choose what goes on in her body.
All of the top exec are women?
Good Riddance.
Komen needs to be destroyed, they are nothing more than a marketing company equivalent to to those evangelical tv churches.
FYI Salaries: Brinker $417,000 Thompson $459,000 And they are running a Non Profit money making machine.
At least Planned Parenthood is a good moral organization while Komen is nothing more but a immoral decrepit organization.
The result of upsetting the political correctness police, evidenced by many of the comments here.
"When you have an abortion then you can talk about the subject. Until then, let the women decide for themselves about what to do with their bodies."
I'll back your argument as long as you are actively advocating for the legalization of prostitution. Truly then women can decide for themselves about what to do with their bodies.
Who cares if Brinker made 400K as a salary?! She's in charge of 300 million dollars every year, she should make a lot of money!

Otherwise your argument holds no water.
Far too little, far too late. These leadership changes should have happened years ago. This has never been about finding a cure, unless that cure was for the hole in Nancy Brinker's heart and wallet. When Komen spends millions to sue Little Betty Lou Who, who just wants to sell cookies to help raise money for a cure to save her grandmother, or the scout pack that holds a race walk, again to find a cure for cancer, it tells me Komen is in business for profit regardless of what some IRS filing states. Most years Komen "spends" around 16% of Net Revenue on finding a Cure. 21% - 25% goes to administration costs. These numbers come from their yearly published financial reports and IRS tax documents (all are online).
Then let's talk about how Komen treats men with breast cancer.
the big joke is "non-profit" . im a business owner. only the most savy, smartest business owners open a "non-profit" THATS WHERE THE REAL MONEY IS U STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!
Um how come men are just treated like second-class citizens when it comes to pregnancy decisions????? And let's not even talk about that "clump of cells" we were lied to about and THEIR rank on the citizenry scale.
and good point Sierra. The actually publicly SUE another person trying to raise money for the same thing? really? this world will be judged in the next i hope. AND IM NOT EVEN RELIGIOUS........
i am so sick and tired of people hiding behind a banner of charity to rape the good people wanting to help. we are all being taken, and we just keep allowing it to happen. giving money so these upady pretentious B****es can drive a BMW. makes me sick and IM RICH!!!!!! i earned my money the very rare way.... i earned it!!!!
When a charitable organization oversteps its boundaries then the donations will come under scrutiny. Komen was more afraid of political agenda then their own cause.
Yep, redondo98. The Komen Foundation CAVED to the pressure from the radical left. I think the whole Chick-Fil-A turnout was the silent majority in this country sick and tired of being bullied by the radical left. There will be a LANDSLIDE on Nov. 6 to get the most radical pro-abortion anti-colonialist president our country has ever seen out of office.
STAND UP TO THE BULLIES!!!!
The issue is not if you do or do not support abortion. Pro-choice advocates are not telling you what you should do or not do. Pro-choice supporters do not walk around with placards reading "Give abortion a try; you'll like it" They do not advocate abortion...they advocate choice. Yet, pro-life supporters, no matter how pious or rightous your views may be, insist on pushing your agenda on others by denying others their freedom of choice. You don't like abortions? Then don't get one.
great comment human being. i was so proud of the normal, law abiding americans that came out and supported chic-fila. and did you notice the media hardly touched it???? its not good news to go against the left. you know what, im proud of Chic-fil-a. if they want to close on Sundays and speak out against gay marriage, thats their RIGHT!!!! its like some sort of sick reverse bullying by the growing number of dependents and delusional people in this country. THE MASSES ARE WINNING. WE ARE BEING DECIDED BY IDIOTS.
how about this: you pay taxes, you get to vote. No matter how much. You work and contribute to the country, you get THE RIGHT to vote. why wouldn't everyone vote for Obama???? he is telling every lazy azz lozer that they don't have to work and they will get paid!! and they don't have to pay their mortgage!!!!!
Sirrom I totally disagree. Abortion has become a sort of RELIGION for people. And as long as my hard-earned tax dollars go to fund abortions I will not stand down and be quiet.
Planned Parenthood can exist on its own two feet (and millions of tiny feet thrown away like garbage) WITHOUT any Federal tax dollars. PP makes its money from ABORTIONS, not giving away free birth control.
I didn't like the fact that Komen backed down to the bullies and continued their support of Planned Parenthood. Thus I stopped supporting Komen, and I am a breast cancer survivor.
And I did not try to DESTROY an organization just because I disagreed with them. I voted with my wallet.
