Subscribe to RSSBilly Graham, the 93-year-old Southern Baptist minister, was admitted to a North Carolina hospital overnight Sunday for a lung infection. NBC's Lester Holt reports.
Updated at 4:17 p.m. ET: Evangelist Billy Graham is being treated at a North Carolina hospital for bronchitis, officials said Sunday.
Graham, 93, was admitted overnight to Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., near his home in Montreat, for evaluation and treatment of a pulmonary infection. He was resting comfortably Sunday and his condition was stable, the hospital said in a statement.

David Pucci, the pulmonologist treating Graham, said earlier that Graham was being given antibiotics.
"This morning, Mr. Graham watched his grandson, Will Graham, on television preaching at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, S.C. Later, he enjoyed a visit from his daughter, Gigi, and one of his grandchildren. They ate lunch together and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon," Graham's spokesman, A. Larry Ross, said in a statement.
Graham was previously hospitalized for successful treatment of pneumonia in November. He resumed his ongoing program of physical therapy and normal activity shortly after his release, according to his staff.
Graham was expected to remain in the hospital for several days, Ross said. No date has been set for discharge.

Fools? It's a valid point. God wants to give Graham his reward, and rather than take it, the good reverend chooses to usurp God's will with man's medicine. Seems like a double-standard to me, but double-standards are common in religion. The evangelicals fall all over themselves to prevent abortion (not mentioned in the bible) and then vote for the party that refuses to feed the hungry, heal the sick, and shelter the homeless all while giving more to the wealthiest among us. Lest we forget: "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into the Kindom of God." That's you Mr. Graham.

The fact that you make a mockery of Billy Graham shows you are willing to find fault even when there is no fault. Are you saying that there are no doctors who are christians? Because I can tell you upfront that there is. I have family members to prove it.

I find it interesting that much of the atheist argument is that this existence is all there is. What a limited view of our lives and universe! Man has yet to create anything greater than God has already created.
One second of the energy that comes from the Sun, God's creation, is greater than the total use all of humanity's use of energy combined! God and science! When believers say that God is omnipotent, unbelievers have no idea what all power that truly means.
Unbelievers use evolution as their grand argument but discount that God designed evolution as well. Atheists use the word science as if it is God's cryptonite but neglect to understand that believer's have already known that He is the epitome of omniscience. All knowing about everthing that can be known.
Just sayin... a science built upon atheism cannot tell us the truth about our existense; how can they possibly have a clue about our creator.

As we get older, we learn that all of us will die someday - some sooner than others. In the case of people reaching their 80s and 90s, the doctors call pneumonia, "the silent friend."
It is noteworthy to consider the beliefs of other people and religions. For instance that "Christ" is a job titlefor healer/teacher. Supposedly, there are seven Christs. Christ Jesus, Christ Michael, Christ Buddah, Christ Mohammad, would be four of them.

The Reverend Dr. Billy Graham has led an exemplary life, working with and for charities, calling Christians to live the life Christ modeled for them. He can't be blamed for the fact that most of them ignored him. that was their choice. Just as it is his son Franklin's choice to be the kind of man his father worked against. Billy Graham never made it all about the money! Or all about the fame! He made it all about God! Remember in the 70's, his Teens for Christ crusades?
Also, to my knowledge, Billy Graham has never hated anyone. He has stated his opinions, but never condemned anyone to Hell. He has accepted that not everyone willbelieve as he does, and he fights for their right to be different.
Billy Graham is a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and wonderful servant of God. My prayers are that he will be healed, whether on this side of eternity or the other. God has a beautiful crown waiting for his servant.

I believe much of the hate being directed toward Billy is because of Franklin's unfortunate decision to get involved in conservative politics, something Billy did as a young man but had generally avoided until very recently (I'm referring to the Chick-Fil-A visit, which I would hope was more about supporting his fellow Christians than supporting intolerant social policies). Regardless of any political tilt, Billy has done far more good with his life than virtually any of us could ever hope to.
Franklin's balance is also tilted far to the good, but his conservative political involvement is a big negative that I hope he'll evolve from. I am a person of faith but I strongly support the separation of Church and State (I've always supported the legal recognition of same sex unions) and I respect the right of belief (ALL belief as long as it's a net positive which means I have a problem with fundamentalist Christians, Jews and especially Muslims, but it's their radicalism and willingness to resort to violence,not their basic faith)and non-belief (I hope that some day that respect of non-believers will be mutual). Those are views I hope Franklin one day espouses, even if I don't expect him to accept the term marriage (civil union is my personal preference but I no longer care about the term) for the legal recognition same sex couples deserve. `
Regardless of any of that I wish them nothing but the best in their mission work. IMO that is the work of the Lord regardless of whether their political opinions are shared by the Savior.

I'm not certain about much, but I am certain I am not one of "Satan's followers". I would hope that the true targets of that line were the non-believers on this vine that want to answer the intolerance of conservative Christians toward same sex couples (and I hope that supporting the right of same sex couples to peacefully coexist doesn't make me one of "Satan's followers"but I'll have plenty of other 'splaining to do on my judgement day so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it) with some intolerance of their own that criticizing and in more than one case death hoping (which is slightly less than a death wish or death threat) the Grahams.
As for myself (if I was the target), I do not feel the Grahams (or any other religious figures) are above criticizing and I damn well reserve the right to disagree with them politically (I had more to say about Franklin because he has done more that I believe deserves criticizism) while acknowledging their positive contributions to humanity through their mission and faith outreach. People disagreeing with people or criticizing them, even ministers, doesn't make them "Satan's Followers" (unless they are).
With all that said my thoughts and prayers are with Billy as he approaches the end of his life, as they are for all of the extra elderly (85+). Both of my Grandparents lived active lives into their late eighties and both lived well into their nineties, but it was an ordeal once there and l hope anyone so blessed is able to accept and survive the late life infirmaries and enjoy it for exactly that, being a blessing (or outstanding luck if you're agnostic).

Like you, I came to this article to read all of the kind words from good people. I am truly shocked. Instead of just letting things alone (if you don't care for Rev. Graham), people have chosen to revile him (just as unbelievers did to Jesus on the cross). It's a sad, sad world in which we are now living.
Alatex, you said it very well. It fascinates me to see so many people hate this man, not because they know anything about him, except that he is a christian leader. Ironically, they have no problem decrying him and other Christians as haters, even while they personally hate Christians. It is a strange moral dichotomy.
I don't find it "fascinating" at all. Or in the least bit surprising. When you hate so many people publically, like that foul, lowlife POS does, and when you vomit out the volume of hate-speech that he does, he's bound to get hated back.

I will pray for his soul. He has, however, been remiss in his preaching of the gospel. He has allowed himself to become tainted by the social ills of the country and the status quo. Jesus teaches us to love one another and forgive the sins of our brothers and sisters. This is a most difficult task in this country and this society. Most difficult for me since I am only human and subject to human failings. But, believing that Jesus has washed away my sins, gives me the hope of receiving and giving forgiveness. Altho this man has gone astray, maybe he can still receive God's grace and salvation. We can only hope.
