Issa and Boehner have chosen to litigate an ongoing investigation which raise serious questions about their credibility. Mr. Holder made clear during his testimony those documents withheld were under the advisement of the Justice Dept.'s legal resources. Why? The investigation is on-going and they do not want to risk losing critical witnesses. If you watched as I the hearing you would know that Mr. Holder multiple times made reference to this reason. If Issa and Boehner want to litigate they may as well make all the details public. Including the three failures by the ATF prior to President Obama taking office. NO American finds any loss of a public servants life insignificant. I and many other Americans do take issue when public servants fail to do their jobs including Issa and Boehner by putting others at risk. Ask yourself this question... If Issa and Boehner felt this was so critical a priority then why did they delay filing suit once they found Mr. Holder in Contempt of Congress?

So I read the Fortune article that you leftists are saying debunks the concerns people on the right have about Fast and Furious. I didn't learn much more than I already knew, except for a few of the names of those involved and some sequencing of intra-office events.

If anyone, after reading that article, purports to use it to show how there is nothing to investigate here in this case, then I have to conclude they can't read simple English. Whether we look at this from the perspective that the left claims this was started by Bush--it wasn't, that was Wide Receiver, and WR ended because it didn't work--or just look at this from the point of view that the article claims the Phoenix ATF offices were dysfunctional, there is a lot to learn here so we don't do something so stupid again.

The article we are responding to, though, isn't about how dysfunctional ATF was/is. It's about suing Holder to get the documents Holder won't release. And on this count the left is wrong too. Some leftists claim that Holder cannot legally release the documents because of an ongoing investigation (one apparently without end), but if this were true then there would never have been a need to invoke executive priviledge.

Still other leftists claim that EP does apply, but if it does then this will be the first application of EP to documents never seen by the president or discussed with him, or which relates to activities he, the president, claims to have had no prior knowledge. Congress must be able to access documents and witnesses as it sees fit when those documents and witnesses are part of the federal government, or are funded with federal dollars. Holder should lose his fight to conceal these documents if for no other reason than his claim they do not relate to the case at hand can't be his decision to reach, it must be Congress'.

This country's "top law enforcement officer" happens to be Barack Obama. He is head of the Executive Branch of our three-branch government: 1) Congressional Branch - Makes the Laws; 2 Executive Branch - Enforces the Laws; 3) Judiciary Branch - Interprets the Laws.

Congress represents American citizens via their direct vote for their Congressional representatives. So, we the people literally make our laws.

The US started out in 2000 with a less than 4% unemployment, a strong housing market and was only involved in UN military actions in the former Yugoslavia. What do you think started the housing crisis? Banks started using CUSTOMER money to invest in the STOCK MARKETS, using money that WAS NOT theirs to use. BUT, because the GOP was able to pass legislation to eliminate controls holding banks responsible for this type of behavior, there was NO recourse...

How can you break laws that no longer exist? YES, Border and the ATF should be held accountable, if, and only if, it is proved he had knowledge of the operation. I see no need to debate the facts as you claim them to be since, frankly, most people approach this debate as more or less a religious concept. You want to believe that Mr. Obama should be given credit for 4 million jobs. So while I disagree with that analysis, let's just stipulate it as a fact for my subsequent question, and then you tell me how great Mr. Obama is, okay?

The marginal increase in spending (and we should use all increases in spending as Mr. Obama claims government spending is economically stimulative and creates jobs) of this president over the last total about $3.5 trillion dollars. That is, had Mr. Obama's policies not been effected into law and we simply stayed with the previous spending levels, we'd have about that much less in added debt.

With some simple math we then discover that the cost for each of those 4 million jobs you claim Mr. Obama created is just about $875,000 PER JOB. Average taxes paid will be somewhere around $17k per year. This means that for us to get our money back we will only need people to live until they are a few hundred years old, working about 150 of those years (the reason for this is the time value of money). So, given this, are Mr. Obama's policies really as brilliant and you claim them to be? Or is it not more likely the case that you, typical of most Americans, have simply no knowledge of basic math or economics, and so you are dazzled by benefits you think accrue to you, but utterly confused by the cost of them?

B. The president can invoke executive privilege in order to withhold some internal executive branch communications from the other branches of government. The privilege is based on the separation of powers between the branches.

Actually when we were going through the whole debt ceiling crisis, the President worked with Boehner and other Republicans. He caved on things that Democrats feel are important. Yet, after he gave Boehner 98% of what he wanted (Boehner's words, not mine), Cantor and the Teaparty throw a fit and put the country in a huge hole. Boehner and the Republicans were responsible for the reduction in the country's credit standing. Seriously, ask Democrats, Obama has gone against the party quite a bit in hopes of meeting consensus. As another Republican stated, the only time he will negotiate is when the Democrats come to the Republican side. This is not a two way street.

Bush's program was called "wide receiver" it was done in correlation with the Mexican government. The sale would be made then the guns would be followed into Mexico and the Mexican government would make the arrest and no guns were left in the hands of the criminals. And in this operation the guns were simply allowed to "walk" into Mexico and disappear there was no one responsible to intercept the guns. So the questions as to why they were allowed and who authorized it and why the DOJ is covering up with the help of the White House after Obama stepped in are the reasons for the request for the documents.
