Residents in the tiny town of Lapeer, Mich., are consumed with speculation as to which of their neighbors holds the winning Powerball lottery ticket with a valued jackpot of $337 million.
The winning Powerball ticket was purchased at a local Sunoco gas station in Michigan, but the ticket holder remains anonymous -- which is fine, because under state law, the winner has a year to come forward. NBC's Kevin Tibbles reports.

Come forward and claim your prize before Obama raises taxes on you.
Heaven forbid he should try to do something to improve the economy.
Ever since the Bush tax cuts this nation has gone into the toilet.
Back in the old days when this nation was the greatest in the world the super wealthy paid their fair share.

Since the 60's the tax rate for those in the middle have gone up the poorest gone down and for the very wealthy it has plummeted.

People wonder why the economy is in such a mess.
The Bush tax cuts cut jobs, and cut tax revenue.
Many of the most wealthy sold off their US assets. For Good Reason. It was the best time to sell. They would get to pocket more of the money to buy foreign products like Mercedes, Yachts, and vacation hideaways in Croatia, Italy, the Caribbean etc.
A very publicized example was the selling of America's Beer, Budwizzer. Obviously wasn't my beer I preferred local brews and still do. Now Anheuser Busch is owned by a foreign (Belgium/Brazil) company.
The reduction of taxes paid by the super rich has destroyed this nation.
Back in the old days when this nation was the greatest in the world there was no income taxes.
The nation was not at its greatest prior to income taxes.
Post-World War II prosperity is when the US was at its peak as the global superpower.
JOregon, why don't you tell the dirty truth? You know, the real truth that nobody will ever admit.
The truth is that the average American is to blame.
We wanted cheap, no matter what.
We wanted goodies from Uncle Sam, no matter what.
We didn't care what our politicians did.
We just wanted our MTV.
My prediction is that the person that won the jackpot will suddenly find out that there are more reletives and friends out there than he/she can remember.
The winner is setting up a fake company in the Bahamas, opening a Swiss bank account and is not sharing with anyone.
Oh, sorry wrong post.
JimP
Now we don't want to pay for anything.
Our schools should produce top notch people, but we shouldn't have to pay for it.
Our roads should be smooth and uncrowded, but we shouldn't have to pay for it.
Our criminals should be locked up in jails we won't pay for.
Our water systems should "just hold together" since we won't pay for them.
Our bridges should never fail since there is no need to pay for maintenance.
Yep we won't pay for the necessities because we spend our money on $80,000 cars, 13,000 square foot homes, and (speaking of MTV) TV's in every room even the shower.
Oh and speaking of the politicians they can't loose that big pointless contract in their home state because of
all the money that gets slipped into their pocket, er the jobs.Ted-
This nation had taxes as early as 1791. At that time the value of your slaves were taxed. So why were things so great then?
Ted
We were not considered the greatest nation in the world until AFTER WW2.
Before the world wars we were just another nice little nation.
He or she will be required to pay 4.35 % Michigan state tax and 35 % federal tax BEFORE he even gets any money. The government will deduct that, and give him the remainder.
JOregon,
That's entirely false and you know it. We spend more on most of those items than ever before. Education is a cluster just like the rest of the government because of greed and corruption, I'll agree with you there. But the average American is just as much to blame. The habit of keeping up with the Joneses is what has nearly killed us, that and allowing honor to become a punch line. The rich guys didn't help, and there's plenty of crooks there too, but most of them did nothing more than what the average person would do in the same situation. Nobody wants any personal responsibility any longer and it's everyone's fault. Nothing can be fixed until everyone understands that. You and I, and everyone else, have to accept responsibility. We're doing it to ourselves.
I'll claim it when I feel like it.
Ever wonder how the State's odds are increased by lost tickets?
Just as soon as the almost 50% of Americans that don't pay ONE CENT in federal income taxes start paying their share. And a lot of them are the middle class. They get to write off their kids, their daycare, their medical, their modest house, college funds, etc., etc. So a lot of people under the 100,000 a year mark don't pay anything.
My boss who makes $120,000 a year (which is just middle class in Southern California) for his family of 4, pays no federal or state income taxes because of these write-offs. I make $65,000 a year, but because I'm single, no house and no kids, I paid a combined total of $12,000 last year in federal and state income taxes. Like that is fair!!
So stop demonizing the rich! Everyone should pay a flat tax on income. Get rid of all write offs and deductions. That is fair taxation. Nobody, including the rich or me should have to subsidize others.
Just so you're aware, if they're not paying federal income taxes, they are too poor to afford them.
Nonsense. You know nothing of taxes if you say this.
Also a lie. Tell me, when did he show you his tax information? That's a trick question, since he didn't.
boom!
Sorry, everyone that has income should pay their proportionate share in taxes. If you choose to flip burgers for a living at $15,000, you should pay the same percentage in taxes as someone making $250,000!
And you clearly don't understand tax laws if you don't think there are write-off's for everything, plus many more, that I stated.
And yes, my boss and I are good friends, and he has told me he doesn't pay any federal or state income taxes due to his write-off's. So unless you were in the room, you can't actually state anything!
Clearly you must be another dole-sucker!
That was funny. Loved that.
In 12 years, it has cost US of over 1 trillion in tax revenue due to tax cut. It hasn't worked for 12 years.
Now, Ryan wants another 10 years of tax cut that will cost US of 700 billions and get rid off "capital gains" which the main sources of wealth for most of the rich in the last 15 years.
Romney and Ryan then claim that Obama is doing a "robbery" job of cutting ineffective subsidies of 700 billions of health insurance while they are attempting to use that same 700 billions to fund the tax cut for the rich. Talk about twisting the story.
Hopeful American: Your logic is strange. Neither you nor your boss would pay more under any plan by Obama but would under Romney. Romneys plan to cut the tax rates would be pennies for people of your income but lower the average 1%er $260,000 a year. Romneys tax cut for the 1% would add $1300 a year average and maybe much more. for middle class taxpayers by taxing your employer health care and eliminating home mortgage deductions.
The greatest Nation on Earth was before this is B5 now we are just a poor example of what greed does.
Yep and we had dirt roads and no infrastructure. Don't want to pay taxes? Then I better not see your *ss using ANYTHING that my tax dollars pay for, got it? Pay your share, or GTFO.
@JimP
So it's entirely false ... but you agree with me?!
I get your point; you agree we won't pay for education then complain because kids don't get an education.
Let's look at some of the others.
I am sure this is true in other communities. In Eugene OR there is a dangerous section of road (Beltline Hwy) where merging traffic must condense into 2 lanes to cross the river. Immediately over the river many cars exit causing huge slowdowns. Mergers don't have time to merge. People can't get in the left lane to let them merge if they want to exit.
The city tried to build a bridge to reduce the traffic for those people just going from the River Road neighborhood to the other side of the river to shop and work. It was voted down. The bottleneck is the worst in the area responsible for many accidents.
REALLY you don't think this is happening? Prisoners are being let out of jails without serving their time all over this nation.
New jails are sitting empty. During Katrina there was a new and unused facility near Portland that was offered as temporary housing but was rejected because they didn't think it was right to house the refugees in a jail.
Criminals commit crimes with little fear of jail time.
Because there is no money to maintain them our water systems are failing. Sinkholes have opened up in various communities when the water mains break.
http://greensource.construction.com/news/2012/03/120315-failing-water-infrastructure-drains-economy-report-warns.asp
You have to pay money, TAXES, to maintain these things. They were built many years ago with materials that don't last forever - think about it.
The sad thing is many bridges ARE failing. They need to be replaced instead they get band-aides.
Ever heard the term "Pork Barrel" before?
Congress Is Forcing The Army To Buy 33 Battle Tanks It Doesn't Even Want
Gravina Island Bridge
Wasted money, but no money for real issues.
The anti tax groups have become so cult-like that they don't see the real needs and let the waste go on through.
They fight increased taxes when it could do some real good.
Besides those public works projects, they employ real people instead of a bunch of fat cats.
@JOregon
Well said.
Evidence and history show that it will just be misspent like the money they (the politicians) get now. Why should we give them more?
I didn't say we aren't willing to pay for education, I said that we are spending more on it both in terms of adjusted and actual dollars and we aren't getting our money's worth now. Again, why throw more money at it when the money will just be wasted by some dumbass union official on another executive assistant instead of a teacher? Or maybe you think we need more principals and admin than teachers. If you dive into the numbers you'll see where the education money goes.
The proper place for that money to come from is from the utility bills that people pay. Period. Why should someone in Florida pay for water improvements for someone in Michigan? I'll grant you the bridges, maybe. But states still tax for them. States should maintain them. Maybe if the states didn't have the federal government telling them where they have to spend their money maybe they could.
I agree with you that fraud and waste cost us money; I completely disagree that the answer is more taxes. It most certainly isn't. To put it another way, if you had a friend who couldn't pay his bills because he was a crack-head, would the answer be to give him more money? No. It would be to get him off crack.
This country is addicted to Snooki, DWTS, and whatever the hell Lindsey did this week. The politicians tell you to just relax and pay a little more and the problems will go away. I call bull@!$%#. The answer is accountability. Show me where the money is being wisely spent and I will gladly pay more. What I will not agree to is an increase that will really do nothing but pay for a few more campaign ads once it's been laundered enough.
Leftists don't want to hear this but the answer lies in morality. Not religion but morality. You guys don't want to believe in it as a concept normally, but it's easy to see when you open your eyes. When being a good person is a joke like it is in this country, then you can't be surprised when a dirtbag wins.
Our athletes, our media figures, our politicians, our business leaders, hell even our preachers and priests are all dirtbags because they directly reflect the rest of society. We are what we make of ourselves and this is all of our fault. The answer isn't to continue enabling the process by throwing more money at it hoping it will go away. We need to try to do right because it is right and we need to stop rewarding people who do bad things. Being a complete waste of air shouldn't be the key to a reality show and riches. It shouldn't be OK to have sex in the Oval Office with someone you aren't married to. It shouldn't be OK to misrepresent intelligence to start a war. And it shouldn't be OK to ignore the Constitution by executive order. We excuse more and more and wonder why we see ever progressing atrocities. C. S. Lewis said it exactly right.
Continue to believe what you want, it's still a free country for now, but realize that a nation with a free vote gets what it deserves.
Maybe Willardo Etch A Sketch Romney can show the ticket holder how to pay ZERO TAXES, million dollar IRA accounts and off-shore bank accounts!
Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!
Ah platitudes. They so often fall apart when reality is taken into consideration. If somebody makes only $15,000, they can't even afford their basic necessities. Where, prey tell, do you suggest that they get the money to pay those taxes? Stop eating for a few months?
There's a reason they don't pay those taxes, just like there's a reason you can't understand those things. However, the reason for you is genetic.
There are plenty of tax write-offs. Tell me, which area of accounting do you work in? Having previously worked as a CPA, I laugh at your ignorance.
Does he own the business? Does he donate extensively to charity? People making about $100,000 most of the time cannot write off so much as to effectively not pay those income taxes.
People love to boast and lie. Especially when they are trying to make a point (like you). So you admit that you never saw his filings. Unless you actually saw his filings, you can't actually state anything!
I prefer to call myself a "Comptroller," as does my business card. I'll wait while you use Google to learn what that is.
JimP
That has ALWAYS been a problem, even before America came into existence. We have to give ourselves more to survive. Vote out the frauds, that is an advantage that America has.
Don't destroy this nation and create more unemployment, less education and a falling infrastructure just because politicians are politicians.
Evidence and History will show you politicians will miss spend much of the money BECAUSE they always have.
Don't destroy this nation because they act as they always have.
I know I repeat myself somewhat but this is an important point.
The Anti Tax people act as if this was something new.
The term Pork Barrel was established in the late 1800's. The practice was an old one but that was the first time that term was used.
WHAT??????
Could you explain how celebrity gossip causes our tax dollars to be misspent?
I'm still shaking my head on that one.
PS,
Gossip is nothing new, believe it or not it is even mentioned in the bible.
I am more of an optimist. I have traveled quite a bit, met people from all over. There are some total jerks but most people are good people. I've been in huge cities and I've been in tiny communities that only have one church. This country is full of good people. The jerks just make more noise.
I will agree that our churches have abandoned true Christianity. They have become more of a social gathering place instead of a place to worship and SEARCH OUT the truth. Churches today are more interested in indoctrination than in open discussion to find truth. Still there are many true and devoted people in the churches and many good people still lead churches.
The problem is the anti tax people are against all taxes. They have poisoned peoples minds.
And the highways. In the link I gave to the Gravina Island Bridge ($223 million) the Seattle Alaskan Way Viaduct is mentioned.
It took years to get that project started even though it is a twin to the former Cypress Street Viaduct that pancaked during the World Series Earthquake, (1989 Loma Prieta), in the San Francisco area. Nobody wanted to pay for it.

That just isn't true. Our schools are over crowded.
I grew up in Eugene Oregon and still live in the area today.
I graduated from High School in 1970.
Our 1970 High Schools covered grades 10, 11, and 12.
The Public High Schools were:
North Eugene
South Eugene
Sheldon
Churchill
Today HS covers grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. In 42 years they have added ZERO new schools.
The Eugene Springfield Metropolitan area has grown from about 200,000 in 1970 to over 350,000 today.
The school district has added a small school for international studies and a small school for kids that are at risk for dropping out. Gee I wonder why kids are dropping out today? The personal attention teachers used to be able to give to kids is gone. Nobody wants to pay for schools.
I noticed you didn't cover the jail and prison issue. This is huge, we want law enforcement but the anti tax people have gotten people into rejecting paying taxes - This is KILLING us.
The Anti Tax people are destroying this nation.
Believe what you want but the facts are there in my first post #1.1 When the taxes were higher the nation was more prosperous. The Tax breaks have created a monstrous gap between the Super wealthy and the middle class.
Ever since the Bush tax CUTS this nation has been on a downhill slide.
His Daddy had a word for it: "Voodoo Economics". Tax cuts combined with a war or two.
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spending_chart_1950_2017USr_13s1li111mcn_20t
According to the official records, education spending has gone up roughly 30 percent in the last two years alone, with no end in sight. Take a look at the actual records on a detailed level, and no, I'm not going to do your homework for you. The money is going disproportionately to administration and higher level positions. In other words, people are skimming, legally. Our expenditures on education have grown faster than the increase in population and inflation can account for, by far.
Gossip doesn't cause our money to be misspent, it causes the sheep to not notice/not care. It's a smoke and mirrors tactic by the folks in Hollywood who are demonstrably in the Left's pocket. By the way, we see how well the "vote them out" tactic worked with Charlie Rangel or Marion Berry didn't we? Even when a person is a proven fraud and thief the voters don't care enough to get rid of them. It's because we as a society glorify the wrong things. Just look at our "elites" of society. Crackheads, drunks, philanderers, and thieves.
This is at least as much of a problem with the Left. You yourself seem to only want to state your position and crow your superiority. You only look at my differing opinions to attempt to debunk them. You're not looking for discussion, you're looking for validation for your positions.
Stop enabling people that are stealing us blind by arguing they should get more. I agree that we should vote all the crooks out but I disagree that we should give them more money until then.
The jail and prison issue is the most complicated one you raise. The others are easily explained by graft and corruption in the main but this one is a bit different. Part of the problem goes back to the fact that we as a society have failed to instill values in our children. We've taken the "or else" out of the equation. Pop culture glorifies prison stays as getting some "cred" and you wonder why the prisons are over-full? We treat our prisoners better than our citizens and you wonder? Bring back the chain gang and some real consequences for crime and we might see some changes. As it stands now it's just a vacation from the street. I'll agree it's a mess but throwing money at a problem is never an answer (unless you're on the Left).
An no, our country wasn't at it's greatest when taxes were high, our country always will be at it's greatest when it increases freedoms instead of taking them away. The way you propose is the way to fewer freedoms and that I will oppose no matter what smoke and mirrors someone puts up to distract.
The bottom line is this: until the government can show themselves to be good stewards of our money they don't deserve a penny more. Just out of curiosity, which side of the rough 50 percent mark are you on? Do you actually pay Federal income taxes? I only ask to place your arguments in context because it is my experience that the majority of people asking for higher taxes are the ones who don't pay any.
The problems you raise aren't fiscal problems, they're social problems. You can't fix them with money, they can only be fixed with a change in society. A change that must include a return to integrity, honor, and a strong sense of morality. No, I'm not talking about religion. I'm talking about doing the right thing because it is the right thing instead of doing what we can get away with.
JimP
Wrote a long winded answer for this last night. Went for shift-w hit ctrl-w instead. Lost the whole thing.
After a bit of a frustrated/chuckle I went to bed. I decided to redo it today, condensed, on the word processor (save often).
Your chart is useful if set up right. The dollar figure has to be set at an equal value.
If you adjust it to 2005/dollars per/capita you make the $value not only equal you also compensate for population growth.
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spending_chart_1950_2011USd_13s1li011mcn_20t
I also eliminated projected costs by only going to 2011, the last full year available.
What you see is a steady rise in costs up until about 1980, then it makes a short drop.
At 1984 it goes up again.
Around 2003 it flattens out, dropping in 2011. There's a Huge reason why spending went up in 1984:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhsWzJo2sN4
It has nothing to do with skimming, graft and corruption. It has everything to do with education and record keeping.
Technology keeps advancing and that costs money to keep up. To compete in the world we must keep up, by spending.
Cite?
Really isn't true. I have a friend who watches those shows you complain about. He not only knows what is happening here in North America, he knows what is happening south of the border, all the way to Argentina. He is especially knowledgeable about Chile, having been born there.
I know others that don't watch TV and don't have a clue as to what is going on, especially the youth.
People tend to focus on what strongly effects them. When I was a student I knew a lot about Sports and Vietnam, the Economy not so much.
I had gone long as to why I think the Church not Hollywood is responsible for many of the problems you list.
Let me qualify this, I am a Conservative Christian who lives by Christian teachings that were common years ago and are hard to find today, (Newton, Spurgeon, James Montgomery Boice, the Original Southern Baptists [James Petigru Boyce], etc). I think the Churches are responsible for the loss of morality, and parents not being around to raise their children.
I lay the escalating divorce rate right on the church as virtually all churches bless adulterous marriages (Mark 10:11-12).
I have heard so many 'Christians' tell others, “God would want you to be happy. It is OK to divorce”.
Divorce forces both parents away from the kids.
Churches now focus on passing judgment on the secular world (not a biblical principal) and spreading hate.
Churches today are focused on $, how to get it.
Churches today are focused on image, “look at what we have”.
Churches today don't focus on being thankful, instead they are focused on praying for worldly happiness.
Churches today have their nose in politics instead of God.
Combined with:
Not really that complicated.
Legalize Pot!
Many of our founding fathers would be incarcerated today, Loss Of Freedom.
When I smoked pot about 30 years ago the seller often wanted to give a free sample of something else. A taste of Coke, maybe a hit of Acid. I doubt things have changed.
Gang wars are a result of Drug and Prostitution territory.
Organized Crime has armed guards, watching pot fields, in our National Forests.
Legalize Pot and most of that goes away.
The State of Washington came to the conclusion that Legalizing Marijuana could bring in as much as $2B to the state in the next 5 years. It would also reduce crime.
We have jails sitting empty all over this nation there just isn't any money to run them.
If you look at the charts I gave at the very beginning...
http://taxfoundation.org/article/us-federal-individual-income-tax-rates-history-1913-2011-nominal-and-inflation-adjusted-brackets
...you will see that the tax rate for the most wealthy was much higher in times of economic prosperity. As their tax rate went down unemployment went up, the National debt skyrocketed.
I don't think we should go back to 1986 when it was at 50% but the 39% is not a whole lot different than 35% today.
There is no question the gap between the űber-wealthy and the rest of us has gotten way out of hand.
I know this was long, but still shorter.
I bet they will pay more than 13% on their federal taxes.
Romney reminds me of the people on the show “Downton Abby”; the filthy rich so extremely disavowed to the extreme plight of the people living right under their own roof. Congratulations to the lottery winner!!!!!! We know you will pay more than 14% taxes on your winnings. Maybe you should call Romney and ask him how to set up the off shore accounts.
The tax rate that Romney pays is the same tax rate that ALL AMERICANS pay on dividend/investment income.
The real problem is the bottom 50% of Americans like you who pay no income tax and grab every welfare freebie they can swallow.
If the bottom 50% paid their fair share, instead of ZERO, the national debt could be eliminated. The rich already pay 70% of all tax collected. How much do you pay? People like you are the problem... you are a cancer on the USA.
When Romney is elected and Congress is controlled by Republicans, your handouts will be over. Letting the poor losers starve would be the best thing for this country.
@ appletoad
Your lies know no end.
Is this the case of "Keep lying and lying a lot until something stick"? Seem that way to me.
Appletoad: You don't even now how Romneys taxed. 31% of his income is taxed as carried interest at 15%. Carried interest is commision interest earned by vulture capitalists and hedge fund managers. Commision interest would be taxed as normal income for any profession but those 2. It's nice when the rich can write their own laws.
Gotta love it when people like appletoad open their lips and spew pure nonsense in some vain and petty attempt to sound clever.
If you agree that the rich should pay to help the poor, then give them a 100% credit for charitable gifts with no cap and bypass the govt money laundering. I'm betting we'd see a lot of money going into job training because the rich would have no motivation to keep the poor dependent on them forever.
Congrats on the winning ticket.
This went from a lotto story to a political debate in the blink of an eye.
It was basically a pointless story AKA a non-story.
When the winner(s) come forth then there is a story.
why do you a$$wipes turn every discussion into a political one? our current president sucked when it came to doing what he said he'd do...and the other candidate wears "magic underwear", believes his god is on another planet and that when he dies he'll get his own planet, pays less in taxes than most of the country (besides the other rich people that find loopholes so they pay less in taxes) and has a wife that has no idea what it's like to be a "real mother". in this case...if you have to pick the lesser of two evils.....stay home and don't vote! they both suck!
After hanging out at the Sunoco station all day expecting the winner to stroll in and claim the prize, this is the report they produce. Lame.
Most of the comments here were the longer than the story. Then again, a one word headline followed by a one word story would generate the type of comments about politics found here.
I wonder if Mirlande Wilson will come forward and claim to have won this lottery too!
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2126067/Mirlande-Wilson-loses-lottery-ticket-McDonalds-Mega-Millions-winner-claims-105m-ticket.html
People often take some time to claim their lottery. I wonder why. It does not take that long to change your phone number.
Phone number??? Hope they're looking for a good attorney.
chefaz, Why an attorney? So they can take a chunk out of the rest of the money, blood suckers they are
Not all of them are and an attorney that specializes in financial / family law is what the winner needs right now. Who / what would you suggest???
I'd find it hard to trust anyone. I was thinking an accountant, someone one that wouldn't rip me off. Famous last words
Don't really know what I would do with all the money. Life would be better not necessarily happier.
I just hope it is someone who needs the money. No one from Bloomfield Hills please.
we all need the money
go flyers
set up a family trust and put every body you think you are going to give money to even if you don't they will not have to pay taxes only the money initially taken out for the big win don't think you owe any money to the government they are self serving pos and don't any body tell you different
a broke uneducated flunky genius is now giving erroneous financial advice.... how perfect
good name appletoad. It fits your personality.
I hope someone who is already wealthy has won this jackpot. If some poor loser has won this it will only go to waste. Poor people are poor because they are stupid and make bad decisions. If a poor person wins this, in 5 years or less they will be broke again.
You are definetly a toad. In personality and probably looks. No amount of money will make anyone love or like you. Everyone who hangs around you is probably after one thing. Your money. They just tolerate you.
Unfortunate but TRUE!
The rich actually INVEST in this coutry's economy they generate capital so others can start a business or buy a home. They don't just sit on it like Smaug!
The person who won this is probably talking to an accountant and a lawyer to set up a trust fund to protect thier winning from a predetory government I.R.S.
Appletoad must be a tax receiver, only thinking of getting "free stuff" from the gubment.
and people he bought things from will be richer. Thats the CORRECT way to do wealth redistribution.
So Appletoad, I take it you are broke. lol lol lol
Here is about what he will get....320 million...after they take out all the with draws he will be left with 1/3
of the 320 million...leaving him around 106 mill.......to know what you or they take home devide it by 3..
Congratz to the winner or winners. He or she is smart not to cash in right away. With that much money, you definetly need to talk to a financial advisor and tax accountant first. Most banks will not allow you to put that much money in a regular checking or saveings account. So you really need to know your options. Then there is the safety concern. Once your name is out there as a winner, you get bombarded with give me money requests and actual face to face beggers.
I dont know if I will be able to survive on 106 mil
Austerity my friend!!!! ;)
The occupy movement is moveing to Wal-mart,occupy wal-mart.To big to fail to big to sue they are the problem.Bullys
The occupy movement is dead john, and what has that got to do with this article. Go back to bed and sleep it off.
It"s only been one day. i would probably take a week or more to claim myself . michigan law says you can't claim anonymous. with the town of Lapeer only being a population of 9000 i'm sure the winner will find alot of new friends.
Hope it's someone who can really use it not like the 1%ers who won in Connecticut last year.
starbuck49 - They may be lucky (again) if all they pay is the state's standard income tax rate. In Oklahoma there's an added 1/2% above the regular income tax rate on lottery winnings. But somehow I think I could have probably struggled on with the left-over $126M-$131M for at least a week or two. Plus you'd have the added bonus of being the perfect Presidential candidate: "Yes, I'm a multi-millionnaire, but I paid the maximum Federal tax on my money! Vote for me!!"
boom reason:
Just so you're aware, if they're not paying federal income taxes, they are too poor to afford them.
Too poor my butt! When you figure all the (paid for by taxpayer) freebies they get and still gets 5-8K as a tax refund, a person I am acquainted with brags about it and my CPA stated it happens all the time. I hope this person gets their winnings out of the country ASAP and enjoys the rest of their life on a sheltered island happy to be away from the socialists trying to redistribute the wealth.
With a paycheck like that I wouldn't jump too soon either. I'd let the curiosity calm before I made my claim. On the other hand, maybe an illegal immigrant made the purchase just for the fun of it. Makes you wonder about their status!
Does it say anything about your immigration status on the ticket? With that kind of cash you could go back to your country and buy a heck of a lot more.
heres the real mystery
why would any lottery management
think giving 1 person 360 million dollars is a good idea
what would really be a good game is 360 peeps winning 1 million dollars
ill never play knowing we have idiots making the decisions no one needs that much cash for free yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh especially when they recieve it they greed up mine all mine double yeeeeeesh
limit the prize at 1 million after taxes makes sence to me more peeps benefit
Its the greed and lack of math skills that makes everybody else pay into it.
I would wait for several months since I am in good shape, then get an attorney/tax advisor. Since I am a senior I would take what I get and give most of it to those few people I care about and worthy charities and organizations. I would give as little as possible to the government
Good plan. Govt is your worst investment. Least bang for the buck. Its better to help society DIRECTLY. No money laundering through the govt.
could have also been someone on vacation or passing through to another state either way someone is really lucky but if they know they won they probably don't want to come forward yet..shoot I wouldn't after awhile but most states they require your name and a photo..
Wow. This is really news. It probably is Mitt Romney and he is waiting until after the election because the liberal press would find something to criticize. Don't buy newspapers.
Whats a newspaper?
Ya us bad liberals just hate big mean snakes who export jobs and fool idiots like you.
