A baby girl was found at the rear of a housing complex in Queens late Sunday night.
Police are searching for the parents of a newborn baby girl found behind a building project in New York City.
According to The Associated Press, a passerby heard a baby crying at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday near the Woodside Houses, a city housing complex in Queens, and called police.
According to the New York Post, the infant was only one or two days old.
"I heard a baby crying and somebody yelling 'there’s a baby behind the building,'" Essence Shepherd told the Post.
Discovered in a grassy area, the baby was wrapped in bath towels and sheets. She appeared to be in good health, the AP reported. Authorities took her to Elmhurst Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson told NBC News the baby weighs about 6 pounds and is healthy. The hospital will hold her for about 72 hours, and then release her in the care of the city's Administration for Children's Services.

Residents were shocked at the news.
"That is very cruel," Audra Adams, a resident at the building project for the last 40 years, told the AP. "You couldn't knock on somebody's door or take the baby to a hospital or something? This was your only recourse? I hope they find her."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

How subhuman. There is nothing more precious than a newborn baby.
our society is on the edge of a cliff, we are fast approaching a total collapse.
Amen saxon.........
Those anonymous, safe "baby drop-offs" at hospitals are sounding pretty good....
That's life in the Projects... not really a surprise...
This is a prime example of what I'd been commenting, our young of this society don't believe in taking responsibilities or consequences for their actions. They have the word" freedom" shoved down their throat everyday by adults, who themselves, won't acknowledge their own consequences. Our young people and some adults need guidance and set rules. They need to understand that whenever you make a decision, such as having sex, crime involvement, drug or alcohol abuse, or anything that may cause concern to them or others consequences are right behind. I hope they find both parents.
Does New York have a safe haven law on the books? In my state we do. An unwanted baby can be dropped off at any hospital, fire station, or police station with no questions asked. If the parent changes their mind, though, there are a whole lot of questions that will need to be answered. Rarely would the child be given back to them.
The baby is in safe hands now. Thank goodness.
Im dissapointed at the ignorant ghetto and hood comments because this unfortunately happens everywhere, but these types of comments usually come from those who know nothing of New York and have never entered the city mainly because they are ill informed and just scared of it. But be that as it may, I agree, of course, that here has to be a better way. Drop the baby off at the hospital in a basket, as long as someone finds it. What if a wild animal had ravaged the baby? DK, some people out there are crazy, ghetto or not.
Follow the GOP's'war on women and they'd better have places where unwanted children can be left because you're going to see a lot more of this.
This world is broken!
When Romney "gets rid of" (his words) Planned Parenthood, we need to deliver all unwanted babies to his doorstep. Since he pays so little in taxes, he can afford to raise these unwanted children.
Max, so would it have been better to kill the babies and put them in the laundry basket or trash? How many girls from the projects do you hear about killing their babies and disposing of them in the trash like you do with the others? Project girls aren't the only ones that get pregnant.
Another thing every state has a safe haven law and before the laws folks would bring the babies to churches or there were unwed teen homes to go to or the convenient aunt in the country to help with the kid. I have a friend who has an older sister he knew nothing about because his mom was a good girl who got pregnant in the 50's. She was sent away and had the baby and the child was adopted out. When he was 18 years old he found out on graduation day that he had an older sister. He only thought he had a brother. Everything is fine now.
How does this differ from an abortion? By one or two days? Two days ago, this would have been a legal abortion, and now they want the mother. Unbelievable!
LOL, really? This kind of thing went on all of the time in medieval and Elizabethan England - all over Europe, in fact. Babies were just abandoned in the street, on doorsteps, etc., which is why orphanages* and "foundling" hospitals and homes were created. People were hoping to cut down on the number of abandoned babies left in streets. (*No, not everybody in an orphanage was truly an "orphan" - it was just a nicer way to deal with the "scandal" of illegitimacy.
Yep, the sky is falling, the world is coming to its end, because we have news outlets that report on every tragedy out there. Guess we can just go back to grazing that nice green grass until the comet hits us or until the 5 o'clock news.
the world is coming to an end because Augusta National has allowed 2 black women to join !!!!!!!!
it has to be the end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, it wouldn't. Partial birth abortions are illegal unless the health of the mother is in danger. There are very, very few of those being practiced today, at least in the US--we have c-sections now if the birth is going to be difficult. It would have been a legal abortion before 20 weeks. Any time afterward is not, but that also depends on the state, and the faith of the person having the child--if your faith says it is wrong, then it is illegal for you no matter what the government says.
I was an abandoned baby myself, so I have a pretty good idea how this girl is going to feel when she grows up. Here's hoping they find her parents, verify the situation, then place her for adoption. Here's hoping she won't spend years in the foster system, and here's hoping she never has to go through what I went through by not having documentation. Best wishes, heartfelt thanks that the baby wasn't simply killed or smothered--whoever left her there had that much heart, at least.
tabasco ed you know very little about abortion laws it takes 9 months to make a baby that's about 40 weeks in different states there are different laws in some states there is a 20 week limit on an abortion but no state has a law about the day before so your wrong . and with all the people shouting at you when you go to an abortion clinic calling you a murderer it's no wonder she did not have one or she may not have a very high I.Q. or be 18 years old to go to get an abortion ? we don't know yet
You're dreaming. If they see you leaving the baby of course there's going to be questions. What's the baby's name? Is there a birth certificate? Was the baby born in a hospital? Who are you? Where is the father? Are you the mother? How old is the baby? Was there any prenatal care? is the mother on drugs? has the baby gotten any vaccines? And if the person has an accent and is not white or black the next question is going to be 'are the parents/is this child legal?'
Of course there will be questions.
Abandoned babies, deadbeats living in taxpayer funded projects for 40 years... This is the world created by liberals, a total lack of responsibility and complete dependancy on government.
It is so grossly inaccurate to decry this as modern, recent problem. People have been abandoning their newborns for millenia. They used to leave them in the woods or mountains in rural areas. In the last hundred years or so, thousands of children were abandoned at birth at orphanages - in America. The early 1900-1960s had private orphanages overflowing with unwanted children from both single and married women. People discarding their responsibilities is not new. The only thing new about this is that it is rare enough to be in the media.
It has never been easier to leave a baby in proper care in New York City. People are just that lazy.
Does that mean we can have all the illegals move in with the Democrats?

Why do some people think that using birth control would solve unwanted pregnancies? There are many birth control methods, some better than others, but even used 100% correctly every time, some women will get pregnant anyway. These may be young women, married women with children, all ages, races, and economic status. But birth control CAN FAIL, despite your best intentions on preventing pregnancy.
Abortions should be safe, legal, and widely available in the U.S. in the first trimester WITHOUT any questions. In the second trimester, a physician should determine with the woman whether it's in her or the baby's best interest and whether the baby might be viable outside the womb. Third trimester should be restricted to protect the life of the mother or to terminate an unviable pregnancy, again determined by a physician with the woman's consent.
In all cases, the choice should be the woman's, regardless of HOW she got pregnant or whether she was using birth control.
If you are pro-choice on this board thread, please take a few minutes and watch this video, that has gone viral on youtube. The movie "180". you can watch it at 180movie.com.
This movie will change you from pro-choice to pro-life in a few seconds.

Glad the child was found. As for the Parents.. I hope you are found and charged accordingly, this is a disgrace.
Not likely that the father was any part of this beyond the moment of conception.
the father is as much to blame as the mother-it takes two to tangle!!
Yes, I hope the parents are found and punished.....also, I hope that if the parents are found that this child is not given back to them. Give this child to someone who will love her and raise iher in a good home!!!
This poor child had no "parents" just a sperm donor and an incubator. Therein lies the problem, no one that knows how to actually be a parent was involved in the conception and birth of this baby.
@feverphillyfan
How can you be so obtuse? In this day and age, many times the father may not have any knowledge that the woman is pregnant, let alone that she gave birth and abandoned the child. For all we know he had sex with her the night he met her and then did not see her again, or even know her name or address and you want to press charges against him as well?
Utter nonsense!
If we don't press charges then just make sure he can hook up with all the one night stands he wants to without leaving any more babies behind for society to take care of.
and someone writes yet one more chapter in the book of "life is cheap" .............
or at least it would seam at this point, too little is known at this time.
I am almost at a loss for words.....so, I guess I will have to say, thank God they didn't kill the baby.
That was actually my first thought, too. I am glad they abandoned the child in a highly populated area, where she would inevitably be found, instead of something worse. Of course, a hospital, fire station, police station or church would be better, but the child is alive and was wrapped. Of course this is still terrible, but it could be far worse.
Like this is something new in NYC. Where people will walk over you if you collapsed in the street among other and everything the people there just ignore.
Raymond, you cannot lump everyone in NYC into the same little package... I visit NYC often I would NEVER walk over someone. I have also been the recipient of the kindness of New Yorkers.
Raymond, clearly you have never been to NYC, please stop watching old Charles Bronson movies and assuming you know the city. Child abandonment happens everywhere.
I lived in NYC for a number of years and still visit there regularly. NYC has gotten a negative reputation it often (more often than not) does not deserve. Is it perfect? No, but I find New Yorkers much more community-minded and helpful than either Bostonians or Washingtonians (I've spent a considerable amount of time in both cities)--BY FAR. Every city has its good and bad. This is an example of some of the bad that happens (less often than in the past) in NYC. You can't assume the whole city is a pit, based just on this one news report.
New York is a great place. The people are fantastic.
If you go to New York looking for drugs, hookers or other trouble, you may get hurt. But most of the folks there are really good.
Movies are NOT real.
I am born and raised in Bronx, New York, and have never just not helped someone. And I have three children of my own, so obviously not dumping my newborns somewhere either. Those with no concept of what a debatable conversation is, please go elsewhere. Throwing NY under a bus out of ignorance is the same as tossing that race card around, ya know?!
Tina, if you look anything like your avatar, you must have been born and raised in the Bronx a long, long, time ago.
No pluto, I am 33, that is a deranged look from my daughter, but thanks.
Plus Pluto, not sure how old you thought I was, or what relevance that would have on the Bronx, but another idea is that my daughter has blonde hair and is white, that now there are no white people in NYC? Idk, what your point was, but if you care to elaborate, ill be more than happy to correct you.
And, have you ever been to New York? ANd I am not talking about just visiting Manhattan, which a lot of people confuse with actually visiting the entire 5 boroughs of New York. I ask simply to see where you draw your info from. If it is merely through media, then may I advise maybe callingme if you want and I can acualy tel you in some great etail what NYC is actually like. SAd the misinformed.
What I have found is that the people that have the least are typically the ones that help the most, this is true everywhere.
How sad that anybody is so desperate that they must abandon a baby behind a building.
Desperate....or selfish. Seems to me a desperate parent would take the child somewhere safe and leave it in good care. Its the selfish ones that throw babies in dumpsters and abandoned building like they are nothing more than trash.
Obviously Darwin was wrong.. at least socially, there is no evidence that man is evolving. A monkey would have cared for her child.
Actually proud, it seem that we are devolving - if that indeed is a word.....but you get the gist.
What are you doing for news and entertainment now that Oprah is off the air?
To Max 108- my mother-in-law has lived in "the projects" for almost 50 years. It is not a Pruitt-Igoe or Cabrini-Green sort of place, but a nice apartment complex of co-ops built for working-class and middle class people. Maybe the reason the baby was left there was so that she would be found. It's just a shame the mother did not take the baby to a local hospital. These days it is no questions asked - just leave the baby to responsible adults who can see that she is cared for. I have to agree with Arizona Tumbleweed - New Yorkers are among the most generous people I have come across.
Guess - terrified teen without a car, job, or familial support, who hid pregnancy. Typical sad story too often repeated. I'd not judge until the details come out, but have heard it all, maybe? Could be the step dad's, who knows?
Evolution simply means "a change in a species over a period of time" it does not say that change will be beneficial to the species everytime. The changes can go either way good or bad. Now for a species to continue to survive then there must be more beneficial changes than bad ones.
This baby was left at a housing project. Not an abandoned building. If the parent has no transportation, this could have been the only place s/he could think of to leave it where it would be found. Schools are out. There may not be anyone at a church this late at night, or there may not be a church close by. Hospitals now have cameras in the parking lots--whoever dropped the baby there may not want to be seen or recognized. In a housing project there's always people around. Cops cruise by regularly. Old ladies walk dogs. Kids run back and forth. even if someone were settling in for the night they would have heard crying and gone to investigate. 11:40 at night in Queens? Yeah, the baby had a far better chance of getting discovered quickly there than in front of a church or school.
Most housing projects (at least the ones in my municipality) are bristling with street cameras mounted to practically every light pole and traffic stop in the entire four block radius. I'm sure once they analyze camera footage hey'll be able to see someone walking around.
this is proof that birth control in every form and abortion should be readily available (and encouraged) for all who can't care for or don't want a baby. it is outrageous that this should occur in the u.s.---one of the wealthiest countries in the world. this happens in india--should not happen here!
Yes granny, because killing the baby would have been so much more humane. /sarcasm
It is. people just don't care. You get more assistance being pregnant than getting an abortion. Why give up the money. When you have what you want .. throw the baby away. Its not your responsibility.. its the government's...isn't that what the education system and media are telling our children?
nikkis1979-----not a baby---it is a fetus until born. an abortion would be better than abandoned in an alley after birth -basically left to die. is that humane?
As if it isn't already? Do you seriously think birth control and/or abortion would have had any influence on this situation?
Condoms... cost less than the beach towel the baby was wrapped in.
Not everyone is wealthy in the US.
granny are you OK with late term abortion??? Do you know how the procedure is performed??? If not, google it and it SHOULD make you sick to your stomach if you have any compassion at all.
Granny, you are delusional. But I"m sure you tell yourself whatever you have to in order to justify your own illusions. That "thing" growing inside a woman is a baby human. Just like inside a dog is baby puppies. I don't know about you, but I'd have rather been abandoned in an alley with a chance to live than senselessly having my limbs ripped from my body while in the womb. By the way, how is it not a baby while in the womb but 1 second after born it is considered a baby? You are why this country is so messed up.. Tell you what granny.. by your theory I could jump on the new health care act indicating that anyone who is a senior citizen doesn't deserve healthcare and should be left to die b/c they are too old to save. Goodbye Granny, your chronological age just signed your death sentence.
I heard somewhere that womens bodies could naturally take care of unwanted pregnancies.
recyclecongress---i am definitely not ok with late term abortions and would restrict the abortion procedure to first trimester if it were up to me. i am a strong advocate of free birth control which is in the best interest of this country. the moral extremists object to birth control thinking it would encourage sexual promiscuity. most teens have had sex before age 16 and do so without protection resulting in std's and often pregnancy. this should not be a moral issue-it is a public health issue. teens with std's and abandoned infants will continue until this issue is not dealt with by government as a moral issue.
I am very sorry to hear that this took place in New York city. Stuff like this normally is only common amongst the white trash communities and trailer parks in the middle of America and Appalachia..
Stop chastising someone for suggesting birth control! Birth control is an excellent option! It doesn't even allow the sperm and egg to unite and create a life, therefore it is NOT murder. Geez - It's better than abortion!
Once the sperm and egg are united, if all works correctly, a life is created, and by the way, a 'fetus' is a human, you narrow-minded, selfish idiots. So many of you don't want to admit it, because it's easier than taking responsibility for your actions. Yes, I've heard all of the arguments. 'It's my body', blah, blah, blah. When you create a tiny, fragile human being, there is another body that needs to be considered. Your body becomes an incubator for the life you chose to create. If you don't want to create a person, use the necessary means to prevent creating it, birth control, or better yet, abstain.
I'm not an extremist, I believe there are times when abortion is justified, but using it as a form of birth control is the epitome of selfishness.
I hope the child goes to a good family and is raised in a loving environment.
Peace.
Granny I am certainly relieved to know that you do not agree with late term abortion. However, birth control is widely available as you should know. The problem is getting people to USE IT!!!. There is a culture who thinks that it interferes with their "nature", meaning sex. I know of what I speak.
Cue to trot out the 'right to life until birthers'
How many crack babies do you support Nikki? Do you vote for or against food stamps? School lunches? Medicaid? Welfare?
Don't bother to answer, it's always the same.
Actually vttova I opt for the churches to go back to taking care of the people. But you know what, this country has kicked God out of it. Where do you think the people who don't qualify for food stamps or healthcare get their help? You guessed it, the church. Every family should support itself within its means or at least TRY. I'm sick of people sitting back grabbing welfare when they aren't worried about working. I am all for helping people who want to help themselves. See how quickly you judge? You don't know me or what I stand for. Just b/c I am against abortion doesn't mean that I am for welfare, food stamps and the government taking care of everything. People should help themselves first, work for what they get. I was never handed anything everything I've had I WORKED for. And just so you know I WORK. I take care of 2 children that I have with my husband who is the dad for both. They are 11 and 8. Btw.. after my husbands double bypass last year he can not work but you know what... we are STILL making it by living within our means. I am the only one working, but I make enough to sustain us. Don't sit here all self righteous, acting like the rest of us just want a hand out. Oh and just for your own reference, I've never used drugs a day in my life. I don't drink and I don't smoke. I am a productive member of society and within my community. I volunteer all while being a WORKING mother and wife. Now I bet that just blows your trailer trash crack baby theory right out the water. Grow up and quit stereotyping people.
Don't even have to read it, it's word for word from the republican playbook...blah blah I WORK, blah blah CHURCH blah blah live in my means.
Ok whatever, you don't suppory ANY of these poor children or ANY program to help them or their families, because jeebus told you it was ok to judge them. And gosh darn, you are going to make sure each of these unwanted, uncared for snotty nosed, needy, inner city kids is born, so you can feel superior, and bitch about how they 'suck the government teat'
vttova----exactly!! my late in-laws were from frankfurt germany and were indoctrinated by the hitler regime. the effects of the mind control was obvious decades after immigrating to the u.s. the hitler doctrine was ''germans are superior'' ---may not be popular to say it but i see an underlying attitude in repub doctrine allowing them to feel oh so superior. very unattractive-actually nauseating .
People have commented that the use of birth control and abortions is greatly needed, but will it stop our teens and pre teens to stop having sex before they are emotionall and spiritually sound? In fact, this will give the reason to have increased sexual activities, and what about their young bodies? Do anyone realized how much damage is place on their bodies. I think women, especially pre teens & teens, should see the film showing an actual abortion procedures. I did in school, and it completely opened my eyes, as well as made me sick, literary.
nikkis- I suppose your husband refused to receive disability payments because you would consider it welfare?
Thank you vttova for calling out the hypocrites. Nikki should go back to her 'perfect' life and leave us 'low lifes' alone.
Nikki....don't sentence all of us seniors to death.. I totally agree with you on abortion.
A little education and compassion would go a long way to prevent this. Problem is all these bible thumpers trying to pass abstinence as education and the parents who could care less where there teenage daughters are on Friday nights is WHY all this is happening. It's just insane.
Please spare us your preaching. A few cells do not make a human.
What are you going to do when cloning becomes possible and ANY of your cells become capable of being formed into a human being? We are only a few years out from that.
What would you do then? Arrest people for sneezing?
Nikki, what about those of us who don't believe in your god, or go to your churches? I'm a productive member of society, and I pay all my taxes that go to Medicare, Medicaid, SS and disability, etc. I WORK too, and you better effing believe that if something happens to me to where I can't work, I'll be in that line for SS or disability or welfare or food stamps, or whatever the heck you want to call it, to help my family make ends meet. What I will not do is go to some church, for a god that I don't believe in, and whose believers are mostly hypocrites, to beg for help. I paid in to these government programs, and I expect them to be there if I need it. It's beyond a joke that you think more people need to turn to some church for help, instead of the government that is there for all of us. I want less baby Jesus in daily lives, and more autonomy to believe whatever I want without having other's beliefs and morals shoved down my throat. And I will not feel like some immoral, horrible or guilty person for actually taking the help that is provided by the government that I support with my tax dollars. Get off your righteous horse Nikki. People like you give Christians a bad name.
Sounds to me the only one stereotyping is Nikki, and getting rather angry at anyone who thinks otherwise. ANYWAY, KyEngineer, I agree with you 100%. We as workers pay into the system to help when need. No one agrees with the people who rather take advantage of the system then work, but that is not what it is for anyway. My husband lost his job recently, and we are not sure hat or where we are going next. He will get work, absolutely, but we are about to collect unemployement and whatever other help we need to get by, for a short time. We do, as well, live within our means, but sometimes things are easier said than done. I think someone on this thread feels she is above everyone else and should quickly get over herself. And no one kicked God out, per say, as he is fictional and was never really here o begin with. He is nothing more than an image of faith. But this is just my opinion. I tend to agree with science, you know, proof.
NikkiS1979
"Yes granny, because killing the baby would have been so much more humane"
Yes, and because leaving a baby to suffer is so much more humane....................but by any chance will you be adopting this baby out of compassion?
KYENGINEER----I AGREE WITH YOU---the government social programs exist for a very good reason. families in need deserve help--our country learned from the great depression that the government is the only reliable source of help during financial crisis and it benefits society to provide a safety net for these families. the french revolution is a perfect example of what desperate people do when faced with an unresponsive despotic government. they did not ''eat cake'' as marie antoinette suggested they revolted and heads rolled. today france requires all babies receive health care and support and provide free of charge day care to those who need it. be grateful for the government support given to the needy. it's what keeps desperate people from rioting and killing you in your sleep.
tangled webs here people. First you are upset because you "think" I support welfare. Now you are upset because I think people should work. For the record my husband does not receive disability. Secondly I would adopt this child in a heart beat. I'm not stereotyping anyone, I'm the one being stereotyped. And last but not least I didn't say anyone had to believe in "God". You can go to a church to get help without believing in him at all. The church I attend has a free meal once a week, there is a man who comes every week and eats and doesn't stay for church service or anything else for that matter. As a community people need to reach out and help those in need. Taxpayers shouldn't be footing the bill for all that the govt wants to do. If you see a need in your community meet it if you can. Everyone falls on hard times. But if someone is unwilling to get up every day and go to work like the rest of us and they've not got a disability or a reason they can't, then they don't deserve help. I'm not a republican or a democrat. I'm not a liberal or a conservative. I just want my country back. And for the lady who says God was never in this country, get your glasses lady and read the fine print on the money you spend. IT SAYS IN GOD WE TRUST! OUR PLEDGE SAYS "ONE NATION UNDER GOD". You may not believe in him, you may think he's fictional but HE is what this nation was founded on. And because of that all the "Christian" writers of the constitution gave you the freedoms you so enjoy today, as well as the men who fought and died for them.
nikkis11979----problem with the religious extremists is they interpret ''one nation under god'' to be their god. it means all gods that people choose to believe in. so your description of god as a him is not backed by government as actual or true--just your right to freely practice your religious beliefs. no religion will be the official national religion--and no ancient book of religious sects will be required reading. instead of smoke free zones i would support religion free zones so i could meet like minded people who can discuss topics without quoting some irrelevant bible passage that has absolutely no bearing on todays world.
NikkiS1979
One thing you missed.... God is not mentioned anywhere in the United States Constitution. Our founding fathers were smart enough to not put that in there. Amendment #1 is clear about freedom of religion, but it also means 'Freedom FROM religion'. Having said that I respect your religious beliefs, but religious beliefs are not the secular laws of the United States of America.
Look up your history, Nikki. Our currency didn't say "In God we trust" until just after the civil war. Before that, our country's motto was "E Pluribus Unum" meaning "Out of many, one". I don't know if E Pluribus Unum was ever on our currency though. And our pledge didn't come around to the late 19th century - 100 years after the founders of our country wrote the Constitution. So references to God on our currency or in a national pledge didn't come around til long after the founding of the US. You also need to review your biographies of the founders. They weren't all Christians. It was well known that a few of them were deists, not Christian. It's realistic to say that this country was not necessarily founded by Christians, or even for Christians for that matter. But you keep drinking that Patriotic Puritanical kool-aid.
What is the difference between looking to my local community for help, and to my government for help? If I need monetary help, and my neighbors give me cash, that's the same as getting monetary help from a government program that we all pay into. Then I don't have the embarrassment of asking my neighbors/friends for money. People that go to churches for help/food may not have to attend the services, but I guarantee they are badgered about it. I had enough of the gospel according to Baptists when I was growing up. I don't need it shoved down my throat even more.
you have lived in GOVERNMENT housing for 40 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me?!?!
Yeah, I noticed that one too.
The record of prolifers adopting babies---even special needs children---is quite good. Their record of helping women through and beyond their pregnancies tell they get on their feet is also quite good. Prolifers donate a great deal of money and time and pro bono help worth many $$$. Why do you think foreign adoptions are so popular? On the other hand, those who support abortion---and provide it---make a lot of $$$$$$$$.
what is even more sad, is had the woman went to a "clinic" she could have had the baby disposed of "killed" for around 400.00 and it would have been perfectly legal. Oh such a society so quick to judge this woman after we've legalized the right to kill our own children in our womb. Get off your soap boxes and quit judging, at least she didn't kill the child.
Would you raise this child as if it was one of your own???? Would you raise or be responsible for every child that came into the world if we 'reverse' the right of choice for a woman?
Hun you are asking the wrong woman. If I could afford it I'd open a foster home inside Oprah's mansion and make use of all that space she can't use in this lifetime. Here is the sad thing, as there are literally hundreds of thousands of people out there wishing they had a baby there are hundreds of thousands at the same time having an abortion getting rid of one. I don't want to hear this crap about other people. There are more than enough loving people to take on all these children that women continue to kill. We are responsible for their children anyways. We pay taxes which take care of foster kids, and taxes that pay for welfare. Who are we to decide whose child should live or die, or eat or starve?
has anyone thought that maybe it wasn't the Parents? maybe this was a child born to a prostitute and was taken from her by those controlling a sex slave ring? we are so quick to judge.
I agree with almost everything in your comment. The hard part though, many people in this country do NOT feel they should have to pay for a child with their tax dollars. I personally have no problem with my tax dollars helping children provided its done responsibility.
What I don't understand, is who are we to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. I personally would hope that a woman would have a child and then give it to loving parents who would take care of it. However, its not my right to force that belief. Now, women who use abortion as a form of birth control..... Let's say I can't say what I really feel here, because I would be kicked off the newsvine.
In response to the latter of your reply: That woman had all kinds of choices before she got pregnant. She had the choice to abstain, she had the choice to use birth control, she had the choice to use condoms, she had the choice to do all kinds of things to prevent getting pregnant. She chose to irresponsibly get that way provided she did NOT want the child as evident by said abortion. At that point, her irresponsibility should not be the childs fault. All we have done by all this "right to choose" crap is make people even less responsible for their own actions. Abortion is the most widely used form of birth control in this nation and it is staggering. Matter of fact while I was typing this 4 children were aborted in this nation. And while you are reading it, 4 more are aborted. This country will start really feeling the shift when there are no longer laborers, no longer soldiers, no longer tax payers because we have aborted 50 million citizens since roe vs wade. China is now feeling their "one child" policy. Read up about that. I also believe that if a person has an abortion other than spontaneous (body naturally expells the child prematurely) or for saving the life of the mother that the persons whose dna are attached to that child (the mother and father) should be permanently unable to have children. I'd definitely go for my tax dollars to pay for that. Responsibility for your actions start when you act. Not when you suddenly decide its inconvenient and that you should have a right to choose.
@NikkiS1979
How do you know she had a choice? How do you know she wasn't the victim of rape? How do you know it wasn't a child, forced to keep quiet, as her parents "got rid of her baby"...oh yeah...you don't.
You know, often the woman will abort against the man's wishes...Just saying.
Nikki you seem to be on your soap box regarding abortion.. because peoples beliefs are different than yours you really don't need to be so pissy. I happen to be christian and believe abortion is wrong... but I cannot fault anyone who would choose it as a legal option because I am not them, I can only be there to support them and help them through a difficult time. Until EVERY child conceived in this world is wanted and loved by an adult... I can't say what the right "choice" is.
Yeah, right ...Sources please.
Funny, everything I read has the pill being the most widely used BC, but that doesn't play well into your crusade.
there are people dying to adopt children in this country. Every child deserves a chance at life.
plsthink... problem is these people are going elsewhere to adopt. Have you ever looked into adoption here in the states.. it's harder to adopt than it is to buy a gun. Perfect world all children would be loved.. but utopia does not exist and if it did we'd bitch it was too good
NikkiS1979
We do not know if that woman had any choice before she was pregnant. I do agree, people should practice 'safe sex' opportunities before hand. However, let's consider how much religion in this country is TELLING women that it's a SIN to use protection? What if this woman was part of that religious faith that does not allow birth control?
I agree that women SHOULD not use abortion as a form of birth control. No question. However, what about women who are responsible adults? My sister was 3 months pregnant and then diagnosed with cancer. You and the government are a complete stranger to her. Why should she have to follow what you or the government believe? How could you know if would be right for her to save her own life or that of the child, or risk losing both? My own FAMILY did not have the right to decide her choices for her.
There is no cookie cutter solution here, except the one where WOMEN should choose what's right for them. There are more responsible women in this country than irresponsible ones, and they should not be penalized for bad choices by others.
NikkiS1979
You make it sound as though everyone is as privileged as you. Isn't it great to judge others who aren't as fortunate as yourself?
Plsthink90, you are right that there are people trying to adopt in this country. Do you know what they're trying to adopt? White babies. Yep, white babies whether they are from here, or abroad. They will pay a lot of money for these white babies- $40k give or take. You know who's not being adopted? Black babies. Black babies here can be adopted for about $10k. People are willing to shell out far beyond that if they can get a baby with white skin from ANYWHERE else in the world. I realize this article doesn't state what color this child's skin is, but let's say she is black- where are all of these people dying to adopt her? I'm not trying to make this an argument about race, by the way. I just want to point out that adoption is a tough business and not always this rosy "everybody wins" situation.
Nikki, are you seriously concerned that there won't be enough people on the planet because of abortion? I've heard all sides of the argument when it comes to abortion, but holy smokes, this one takes the cake as being the most ridiculous. Please crunch some numbers for me so I can see how this argument adds up. I'm being serious. I'm no statistician or economist, but you seem to have this all figured out, so please enlighten me.
You know, I commend you for having your act together and being a functional, contributing member of society, I really do. But you are the epitome of a judgmental, self-righteous a$$. You don't have to agree with abortion, but you seriously lack true depth if you can't find compassion or understanding for the woman who chooses to have one. Every woman who is faced with an unplanned pregnancy has a story; sadly, you do not care to know it. It is far easier to sit and judge from your high horse than to even consider walking in another woman's shoes.
Do you really think that any and all women who unintentionally become pregnant should be forced to bear that child as a "consequence"? Because that is an extremely harsh consequence if you really sit down and think about the full gravity of it. Not all babies are wanted, not all babies will be adopted into happy homes in the circumstances where they're not wanted.
wow, you need to get a grip. Our best friends gave up on a USA baby because they would of had to wait forever. So they adopted from Guatamala. I really don't think they were concerned about color.
"thepunisher" please read my previous post talking about how "priveledged" I am not. I speak as tho I have a moral compass and conviction that apparently far surpasses your own. It is ironic how people who are for abortion and gay marriage are so quick to judge those of us who arent. Suddenly we are part of a "hate group" or we lack compassion for anyone. Or our God is fictional... well what about the hate for the Christian people? What about the hate for people who aren't Christian but simply have some kind of moral about them that falls within that faith? What about "gasp" the fact that the laws are modeled after said beliefs. You know, no stealing, killing, that kind of stuff. To the one who asked about my worry on how many people we have, start reading up on china and their thoughts about the 1 child policy and what its done for them over 3 decades. They now have 4 men to every 1 woman... figure those numbers out.
Nikki, they have 4 men to every 1 woman because they selectively abort female fetuses. That is a whole different issue. What does that have to do with abortion statistics in the United States?
plsthink90, telling someone to get a grip is not a very thoughtful response. It's actually pretty weak, and it's a total copout from having to think of something substantial to say. The point of this discourse is to maybe share a different viewpoint and get people to think a little. If you have an opinion on something, be prepared to back it up, or put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.
" I speak as tho I have a moral compass and conviction that apparently far surpasses your own."
Must be nice to be so superior to others, they have a name for that. It's called a superior complex. It's really nothing but delusional thinking. Besides morals are subjective at best. As the saying goes, whats morally good for me, may not be so good for you and vice versa. But hey keep drinking that ethnocentric kool-aid if it helps you sleep at night.
Find the mother, have her tubes tied to prevent a recurrence. Find the father and castrate him so he never fathers again. I hope this child is adopted into a good home and loving family. At least, let's hope that is the case for the baby.
Never mind the obvious questions as to why the father gets blamed for the abandonment....or the lawful(ness) of being judge, jury and executioner.
How do you propose the tubal ligation and castration are paid?
Would it not be easier to provide low cost/ no cost birth control and education?
Again, you gotta use birth control for it to work. Some folks just refuse to.
I agree. When they find her she should be forced to be sterilized.
@ vttova I think we tax payers should pay for it...it will be a hell of a lot cheaper then us being forced to pay for all the unwanted children she will continue to bring into this world. I would rather foot the bill for this one time procedure then her monthly welfare.
Ok, if she's 15 and was raped for years by her step father or half brother - she should be sterilized and reviled? Oh brother. There is bad stuff happening out there, most people do not abandon an infant unless they are 1) frantic and freaked out, or 2) in fear of their life if found out.
3) They just don't want a child...
I hope this child gets adopted by a good family. Thank God for the person who found this child. They have saved a life and should be heralded as a hero.
Can I have the baby???? There is always enough love in my home for another child. Its pretty sad. I have one child (11 yrs old) and couldn't have anymore. Then you have someone like this that abandons the baby. I'm just glad that someone found the baby and she didn't "dispose" of it in any other way.
Where ever the child goes, I hope it receives all of the love that it deserves.
As for the parents, you have to live with this for the rest of your lives.
Karen that love in your heart is the love of a true mother....congratulations for speaking up!!!
Karen-I second that. I have had two miscarriages and I have 1 very healthy 8 year daughter that is my life. Being blessed with a child is the greatest gift one can receive.
I love the three of you.
Odds are that if the child is black, you can have first dibs on it. Most adopting Americans are looking for white or lighter-skinned babies, even if that means looking abroad and spending 4-5x the amount of money than they would in the states.
I had three relatives that were adopted right from the hospitals they were born in. I know this isn't done anymore, that was going back years ago. Are women not allowed to adopt out their kids from birth? There may have been a sinister reason this woman did not have her baby in a hospital, like the dad might be a relative. I hope they find the parents, they have a lot to answer for. I hope this kid gets adopted into a good family.
Find them, then drop them off on a tiny deserted island.
Yet again this just proves, straight people should not be parents
Out of chaos comes the gay agenda.
Nothing against gays, but your a dumb ass. Without straights, how would gays ever be parents?
Without straights, how do gays exist? They were born from two straights, no?
When the parents are found it will be proven that they are black democrats, however; NBC wont run that portion of the story.
7.62, Does it hurt to be that ignorant?
What's ignorant is denying that very real probability.
7.62 aim AK at your head, pull trigger. Thanks in advance for doing this ASAP.
I tell you it's those damned Swedes or Norwegians always dropping off their unwanted children in the inner city projects.
This baby now has a chance for a good life. I am so glad it was found.
I believe it would had been so much better to be left at the hospital or police station, which is legal without any repercussion. But women just don't feel safe to do that for some reason. This mother did show care to some extent. She wrapped the baby well. She didn't throw it in a dumpster. I'm not convinced she is inhuman. I just wish our society was in a place of people feeling they have to give up their kids could do it without being made to feel so awful.
I hope the mother doesn't read these negative posts. She has enough to live with for the rest of her life, without people demoralizing her even more. For all we know she was raped, baby was placed there by the father, her parent put it in the alley, etc.. Again I wish the baby had been left at a safe place. But is safe now and has a chance.
I hope she DOES read these posts and figures out how worthless she is.
This is so sad. Happy that the baby was found and now has a chance at life. Obviously, the parents didn't want this tiny baby to even survive. There are so many resources and people who will help. There is no excuse for this behavior. If the parent or parents are found, they should be up on charges of attempted murder. Take care, little one! Hopefully, someone wonderful will adopt the baby and love the baby!
I would gladly take the child. I can no longer have children and I would love to have another. I have a beautiful 14-month-old son but I would love to have a daughter.
Asilee... do some research there are hundreds of thousands of children waiting to be adopted.. or would you only adopt a baby? I have two wonderfully stressful children and would adopt more but alass a single woman over 45 is not "the right fit" to adopt a child in the US.
You're so wrong. I adopted an infant at 55 yr old. I adopted a daughter at 53 yr old, altho not an infant. She was 6 yr old. If you are willing to take a chance on a crack baby, or a child with disabilities, you can adopt! I adopted these 2 after having raised my 4 birth children. All are now grown, except for my son, who was a crack baby. I cherish every day with him. Oh and by the way, he is bi-racial and I am white and single, so maybe if you are not racist you also can adopt a child of color!
Sharon.. it is harsh to judge before knowing, so please don't... I am white my son is african american and my daughter is asian... please do not tell me what I am and what I am not! I have been told by numerous agencies since my last adoption 10yrs ago. I have been told by numerous agencies that I am not the "right fit" for a child... I foster children, and my daughter is a big sister. I'm not rich I don't get paid millions... I just would like to make sure that every child has a forever home!
The good news is that the dispicable tramp, that left this baby to die, will live a worthless life of misery! intelligent, decent people, with bright futures do not do this crap. The same lil skank will eventually raise gang punks and inmates, then walk around talking about how she's a good mama....damn pig. Most likely raised by a pig. God bless this little girl, this may be the best thing that could ever happen to her so she can actually have a decent future, rather than a life in the ghetto, with a ghetto tramp for a mother.
I hope they find the mother alive and well, not strung out on drugs, or not murdered by some psycho or criminal. But hey, way to condemn her ahead of time before you even have a clue why she left her baby.
You think, if found she'll give a good reason why she left the child?
JAMES-1956149 ......speaking the sad truth. Now the little girl has a chance at least. Get that mom sterilized!
Found behind subsidized housing. People not responsible for their rent, their food, their health care, their cell phones..... Now not responsible for their kids? Why the big surprise.
The "parents" were tired of her and didn't know she expected to be freeloading off of them for so long. They told her to get off her a$$ and go apply for government handouts like housing and food stamps but she just wouldn't. After calling the baby lazy and worthless for the better part of an hour she kept ignoring them and screaming at them. OH NO YOU DON'T TALK TO ME THAT WAY! "Momma" screamed as she booted her right out of the house. Then "momma" immediately took to twitter on her iphone and told all her followers about the tiring ordeal. Poor "momma." #notinmyhouse #Idontcareaboutnobodybutme #thisfreehouseismines
like Moses, like Christ, because of sin Gods glory in this, pray that Father will give the orphan and abandoned insight and special vision in her life because of her struggle. Some people get everything and still squander and do not appreciate , sometimes these weaknesses help them decide on the One True God and flock full of grace and truth to receive the Spirit. Thank the Lord for the Christian orphanages and the influences of salt and light in our government inspired by Christ followers and the Gospel, so that she will have a chance. to all the agnostics, mystics and naysayers, this is why God is good and this is why providence and the servant hood of our Lord and Savior is important, no more rejecting, repent, there is hope when it all seems lost and there these tragedies around us, the true Lord forgives and offers mercy and hope beyond the grave and hope in a circumstance that seems hopeless. When you reject these testimonies you reject the God who creates , makes, gives life and will re make and re build all that is collapsing. Jesus is the only hope.
People just keep taking a step down in humanity. Disgusting.
I hope when they find this heartless piece of trash that they sterilize her and then lock her up.
Glad the baby is alive and healthy.
And people wonder why fewer and fewer people want to go hang out at a church with "x-tians". Wow.
The fact that the baby is healthy and weighs 6 pounds at 1-2 days old tells me that chances are, the mother is not a teen. Teens have a high rate of miscarriages, due to their bodies not being ready, having no/little prenatal care, and low birth weight. It also tells me that she probably had some form of health care, even if it was someone knowledgeable telling her what to do/not do. So, that tells me she cared on some level.
As for abortion, I feel that it is the right of the female to have the right to CHOOSE! If a man has something growing in his body that he doesn't want there, it is called CANCER! If you take the religious side of it, the Bible says it is not our job to judge, it is our job to get along. He gets to judge on judgement day. Nobody will be standing there, speaking for you when it is your turn, nor anyone else's.
I doubt that anyone here remembers the case of Karen Quinlan-the girl who self-aborted using knitting needles, and ended up in a coma as a vegetable. If she ever regained consciousness, which I don't think ever occurred, she would have gone to jail for murder. How's THAT for DESPERATE! If a woman doesn't want, for whatever reason, she will find a way to get rid of it. They always have, since the beginning of history.
Since the advent of modern medicine, humans have been "playing God" every day. Doctors thwart God's will every day all day with "saving" people from death in hospitals. I see no difference. The time of viability of an unborn has been steadily moved back with medical breakthroughs. My mother miscarried in the early 1950's at 6 months. Nothing was done to help the FETUS (still called that at that time), because nothing COULD be done. Today, the BABY (as it would now be called) would be whisked off to NICU, and probably saved. If a woman naturally miscarries, did God commit murder?
As for those who carry on about birth control, apparently you have no idea about rates of failure. As for leaving it at an approved (legal) location, the female STILL has to face another human being, who WILL judge her. Then there's the thing about mental health.
Yes, there are many women out there who would love to have a baby and can't. I am one. So, please don't think I'm a heartless wacko-I'm just realistic, and not afraid of the truth.
Peace.
