Tropical Storm Isaac potential threat to GOP convention in Tampa

TODAY's Al Roker tracks Tropical Storm Isaac as it swirls in the Atlantic and discusses whether or not the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., will be plagued with heavy rains and high winds.

Forecasters are keeping a wary eye on Tropical Storm Isaac, which developed in the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday and poses a threat to Florida during next week's Republican National Convention in Tampa.

National Hurricane Center computer models Tuesday predicted the storm would grow into a hurricane over the next few days. Some models had the storm striking Florida or passing close after moving across Cuba as early as Sunday.

The storm late Tuesday afternoon was about 500 miles east of Guadeloupe, the Hurricane Center reported. It packed sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving west at 17 mph.

Tropical Storm Isaac moves westward in the Atlantic Ocean less than one week until the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

A tropical storm warning was in effect for Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe and surrounding islands. A tropical storm watch was issued for the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Forecasters caution that long-range storm track predictions can be off by hundreds of miles. A hurricane hunter plane flew into the system Tuesday and found a small area of tropical-storm force winds associated with thunderstorms just outside the center of circulation, The Weather Channel reported.

Maybe Mitt will be able to find shelter - he already had more tax shelters than brain cells.

    MSNBC's ignored news:

    *** Obama's 3 years

CBS, MSNBC, ABC, and CNN is conveniently forgetting Obama's first three years, (with Pelosi/Ried controlling congress the first two years.)

$5.2 Trillion in NEW debt, America's financial downgrade, longest period of above 8% unemployment, food stamps 110% increase, poverty levels record increase, gas prices increased from $1.82/gal to over $3/gal, driving a wedge between Hispanics and whites, increasing Americans on the public dole to 47%, driving black unemployment to 14.8%, half of all college graduates unable to find employment.

    All in three years.

Captdon -- just a bit of cherry pickin' there....

Why was the country's financial status downgraded: because the Republicans in Congress were demogoguing and obstructing the debt ceiling issue, and S&P SAID JUST THAT as justification. So there.

Why were gas prices so low when Obama came in? Because the economy CRASHED under the previous administration and took gas prices down with it - a pretty heavy price to pay so you can keep putting cheap fuel in your gas guzzler, I'd say.

The people driving a wedge between others and dividing America are the right wingers in media and elsewhere, and those like you encourage this further.

Finally, did you know that under this president the DOW JONES has gone from 8,000 to 13,300? You didn't? Well, too bad, pal because you weren't smart enough to cash in.

I tell ya, right wingers never disappoint us with their ignorance.

I think the massive quantity of meaningless hot air coming from the convention will create a high pressure system that will deflect the storm.

While they are busy discussing how to kill important government saftely programs such as FEMA, thousands of our citizens may once again be in dire need of its services.

Missouri, please don't forget how FEMA reached out to help Joplin last year after the terrible tornado.

DON'T LET THE REPUBLICANS DESTROY THE EPA, MEDICARE, MEDICAID, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THE UN.,at the same time they try to pass bills to let women die to save a fertilzed egg, outlaw effective contraception, trying to keep people from voting, de-regulating the banking industry, and on and on on and on.

The true conservative god is AYN RAND, the Russian atheist.

If you think that the Republican ideology follows the teachings of Christ, you are completely mistaken.

They do pick some draconian Old Testament ideas that fit their bill.

To them there are only two sins: being gay and abortion.

If Jesus were alive today, they would give him the death penalty just like the religious hypocrites did in the year 33 AD.

The storm is moving at 19knots going west. If it was to slow down, it would have a better chance to intensify.

Instead, if it stays at this speed , we'll have a water event but manageable wind. The politicians may get their shoes wet. Or have to stay the bar longer.

Actually, I regret to say, Haiti ,Dominican Republic , and Cuba seems to be likely to get most of this storm. And we know Haiti isn't in any condition to take it.

And , there is a disturbance after it, that may be worse.

Let it pour!!! If all the ignorant ungrateful and unpatriotic Republicans get blown away, the country will be better off. They won't be happy until they get another cowboy speaking backward English in the White House again. The President risked his potential 2nd term by giving the order to take out Ossama, got Al Qaeda #1, #2 and doubled the drone strikes over a Muslim country like Pakistan despite opposition and they're still whining. Ronald Reagan gave amnesty to illegals in 1986 and Obama created a deferral program and they're jumping on Obama. They don't read or they read into what they want to believe and they fail to see the positive things like all of us have been kept safe from attacks so far. The President is NOT Merlin the Magician. Expecting so much makes you wonder why they weren't all applying for the Ryan position. Then again, the glass is always 1/2 empty for Republicans.

Hate to wish a hurricane on anyone, but after what our FL Repubs did to our insurance rates here, I hoping for a Cat 3 right on the convention floor. After no storms for 6+ years, our Gov gave insurers a gift on our backs. Not only did my rates go up 111% on homeowners ins and 478% on flood, but insurers now can "reimburse" us for repairs instead of paying claims. Once we get a strom and people figure out what the new deal is, maybe we'll get some changes.

Legalized extortion is alive & well in FL. It's called home & car insurance. And the politicians get a cut.

But soooo many are now saying that al gore was right. That there is climate change. But i heard on the radio last night, about how the forces of mr grover, the gop, the rushbo, & foxnews.com are saying the change in climate due to chem trails. Hehehe. They program did point out that nasa says chem trails are a hoax. But the radio program is asking anyone who was a pilot or traffic controller to step forward and tell all about chem trails. Reminds me soooo much of the other mr grover, gop, rushbo, & foxnews.com fairly tale they call fast & furious.

But what can you say. You can tell mr grover, the gop, the rushbo, & foxnews.com are ideologues. They have difficulty with the facts and the truth. It's why they have problems with science - the branch of knowledge dealing with the body of facts and truths. They have a war on science, the truth, and the facts. So be careful of what they will tell you. They have a culture of lies.

Anyway, so they have their convention and it gets hit by a tropical storm. It will only become more and more typical. You cannot go anywhere in the country nowadays and not be affected by a heat wave, drought, wild fire or the like. Mr grover, the gop, the rushbo, & foxnews.com could just spend all their time indoors and hope that the electrical power isn't cut off.
