Andrew J. Meyers, 34, of Whitinsville, was arrested at his home Tuesday and has been in custody since his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Boston. He was to appear in federal court Thursday for a probable cause and detention hearing.
Christina Sterling with the U.S. attorney's office in Massachusetts said most of those accused of sex crimes will waive the right to a detention hearing to avoid information about their alleged crimes getting out.
"I've never seen anyone not waive it," she said.
Meyers also worked as a lawyer and a substitute teacher and once served on the Northbridge School Committee.

According to the arrest affidavit, authorities in Larimer County, Colo., contacted police in Northbridge, Mass., after receiving a complaint from the mother of a 12-year-old boy who had communicated with Meyers in July via email and Skype.
Authorities said Meyers identified himself as 33-year-old Johnathan Andrews. According to the affidavit, during one conversation Meyers told the boy he had just returned from a week at scout camp and mentioned one of the boys there being " the horniest boy I have in the troop" and that "it helps that he's one of the cutest."
According to the affidavit, when the child replied with "nothing like horny scout campers," Meyers then said, " I just wish some of them were willing to let me play along."
Meyers is alleged to have told the child he masturbated to images and videos of boys and tried to convince him over Skype to touch and expose himself.
Officials said that after a search of his emails, they found Meyers had requested nude photos and offered to perform sexual acts on at least three boys in Northbridge.

During his communication with the boy in Colorado, according to investigators, he indicated he was closing his law practice and had an upcoming job interview for a teacher position at a middle school.
After learning of his arrest, the Mohegan Council of the Boy Scouts of America released a statement saying Meyers had been terminated as a scoutmaster.
If convicted Meyers could face 10 years in prison on the enticement charge and 10 years on the possession of child porn charge.

FThe word pedophile is not a substitute for homosexual or heterosexual. A male pedophile who is attracted only to boys is a homosexual pedophile. A female pedophile attracted only to boys is a heterosexual pedophile. A married man attracted to to adult males is (in virtually all gay literature) "in the closet" (because according to gay literature all men are just closted homosexuals). A male pedophile that is married to a female but working on enticing boys could be a homosexual pedophile still in the closet. In short, the word pedophile addresses the age of the desired person and does not preclude homosexuality or heterosexuality.

There seems to be a lot of condemning evidence against this guy. He's probably guilty. With that being said, it's a crying shame that creeps like this guy make it more enticing and entertaining for the media to report (or shall I say "comment") negatively about the Boy Scouts of America.
The same media companies would have their hands full, if they actually took the time to research and report about the tens of thousands of community service hours that the scouts themselves perform for their communities a year. This does not include the leaders.
I am not proposing that we ignore the negative, but to counter it with at least an equal amount of positive for ALL the organizations that benefit this country and their communities. Don let a few nut cases ruin great programs.

A pedophile is a sociopath that may have psychopathic tendencies. The fact the Pedophiles are attracted to both males and females is not relevant because it is the youth attraction that is the common denominator. Children are said to recognize the attractions to types of people as early as 4 or 5 years old. From that moment on the child is under the pressure to be someone he is not supposed to be. A closet door is opened and the child walks into it.
He uses the hate to persecute other children he sees as himself or that he might be attracted to. His realationships with family and girls is never normal but he might manage to create a good false front for the benefit of his peers. Then one day Sandusky is born and he becomes a football coach or Scout leader. That is if he managed to have the support of the people he set out to fool all those years ago that was driven by shame.
A loving mother might have given him the balance he needed to seem "Normal" in the eyes of friends and family. He was probably a bully in Middle and High School, but really enjoyed those hot showers after athletic practice. He used religion as a shield to hide behind as well and coexisted with other persons of the same type.
There is also the unsuccessful ones that went to juvie or jail and found peers that were as messed up as themselves.
Love and effection in the prisons and jails is very common. The same barriers are in place in open society, but the fellow jail birds know.

He wrote the laws and said they were God's laws and he was the enforcer of God on Earth. He even wrote the laws as to give the license of death dealers to the masses of the people. Guess what? The BSA allows women leaders, too. Should women no longer be allowed to volunteer? After all, they are about as likely to be attracted to the boys as gays are, right? The BSA does a good job of training their volunteers to know what type of interaction between leaders and scouts are OK. For example, a leader should never be alone with a scout. Leaders work in pairs. Leaders should not sleep in tents with the scouts unless they are their own children. And leaders do not shower with the scouts. These rules not only help prevent abuse, but also help prevent false accusations. Clearly the monster in this story was not abiding by any of these rules. It amazes me that he was not caught by another leader before he became this brazen.
I don't know why we make excuses for these predators. Why is it so gdamn hard to protect children? Execute his a$$, and make an example out of him.

No...it doesn't. About half of all pedophiles do also have an adult orientation....they are attracted to adult women or adult men. Of those, 98% are attracted to opposite sex adults. Their adult orientations have no bearing on the gender of the children they abuse.

Child molesters don't really have an adult sexual orientation. They have never developed the capacity for mature sexual relationships with other adults, either men or women. Instead, their sexual attractions focus on children – boys, girls, or children of both sexes.
The important point is that many child molesters cannot be meaningfully described as homosexuals, heterosexuals, or bisexuals (in the usual sense of those terms) because they are not really capable of a relationship with an adult man or woman. Instead of gender, their sexual attractions are based primarily on age. These individuals – who are often characterized as fixated – are attracted to children, not to men or women.
Using the fixated-regressed distinction, Groth and Birnbaum (1978) studied 175 adult males who were convicted in Massachusetts of sexual assault against a child. None of the men had an exclusively homosexual adult sexual orientation.

All of the research subjects were first screened to ensure that they preferred physically mature sexual partners. In some of the slides shown to subjects, the model was clothed; in others, he or she was nude. The slides were accompanied by audio recordings. The recordings paired with the nude models described an imaginary sexual interaction between the model and the subject. The recordings paired with the pictures of clothed models described the model engaging in neutral activities (e.g., swimming). To measure sexual arousal, changes in the subjects' penis volume were monitored while they watched the slides and listened to the audiotapes. The researchers found that homosexual males responded no more to male children than heterosexual males responded to female children (Freund et al., 1989).
Science cannot prove a negative. Thus, these studies do not prove that homosexual or bisexual males are no more likely than heterosexual males to molest children. However, each of them failed to prove the alternative hypothesis that homosexual males are more likely than heterosexual men to molest children or to be sexually attracted to children or adolescents.

Pedophiles have no sexual preference. The fact of the matter is that boys are more likely to agree to sexual contact then girls are, most of the time. There is no such thing as a hetero/homo pedophile, they are by definition asexual and the preference is geared towards age not gender.

There are a variety of reasons why a pedophile chooses their target - rarely is it because of sexual orientation.
Many simply wish to humiliate their subject. A man raping another male is the pinnacle of humiliation.
Others choose because of a comfort zone, some men have never learned to be comfortable with girls of any age. That would probably be one of the bigger concerns with the scouts. Men that were comfortable with boys but as they aged they were not able to be comfortable with adults.
Sometimes it is a matter of opportunity. Any man in scouts is a good example.

With scouts, these men CREATE THEiR OWN opportunity to molest boys. Presumably this could be because they are sexually attracted to boys. If he was attracted to girls than boys don't you think a man wouldn't join the boy scouts, but lead some activity where little girls participate?

Did you read the quote from the University of California at Davis? This information comes from STUDIES done by researchers.
While there seems to be no one real clear reason why someone abuses, one thing that is very simple is Homosexual Men are attracted to MASCULINE qualities. Very few children have developed masculine qualities. Those traits don't generally appear until AFTER the age of consent.
On the other hand Heterosexual men are attracted to FEMININE qualities.
Most young boys are undeveloped and those feminine like traits do appear more often in young boys.
There is no hard line here. I suppose there are 12 year old's that shave but most do not. My second son was able to shave at a fairly young age.

Meyers likely joined the scouts because he was sexually attracted to boys. He could have joined an organization that would have allowed him to prey on girls, but he chose not to. It would seem that sexual orientation (he likes young boys) played a role in his decision. I would have no problem classifying him as male pedophile who preys on young boys. Whether or not he was also sexually attracted to adult women or adult men we don't know.
Where does it say anything about the relationships being outside of marriage?

I didn't read that link because based on the quote I gave you I thought it was clearly from an organization that wanted to legalize male-boy sexual relationship--presume it was NAMBLA. The doctor may be supporting such organization. Rightly or wrongly, it is my experience that anyone can find an "expert" supporting their view if the "expert" is sympathetic to its cause or they are paid enough money. Who gave you the authority to speak on behalf of the BSA.? Why can't the BSA speak for themselves and make their own rules? Why do they ahve to listen to you?
The BSA is in conformance with traditional Judeo-Christian values by not allowing people who are openly living a gay lifestyle. The Bible versus you quote is why the Catholic Church has the annulment process. When a marriage is annulled by the Catholic Church in the eyes of the Church (and we believe God) there is no marriage in the first place. Other faiths may believe in the same process when there is a divorce. Regardless, the BSA is a private organization, why do they have to conform to your views? Start your own organization that serves the male youth of America, but if you do, I bet you won't admit avowed Catholics because of their view of homosexuality.

I just don't understand why most people don't give it a second thought when they see men become overly involved in children's sports and other activities; especially when they don't have kids themselves. Why doesn't anybody seem to ask themselves, "what's a 30 something childless man doing volunteering tp coach a kid's team?" I'm sure there are some men who do it without a hidden agenda, but even then, kid's should not be left alone with adults that are neither a parent, grandparent, or established babysitter. Don't use a coach as a babysitter! Maybe I'm overly paranoid, but I even look at my single friends suspiciously when they show too much interest in playing tag with the kids during a BBQ or other event.

You would be surprised how many parents use scouts as a free baby sitter service, dropping their kids off at the curb of the den leaders house and just driving away.
Three of us used to stay and help the scoutmaster. We did discuss the lack of parental involvement, and how certain parents had no idea of what went on after they dropped off their kids. The den leader stopped being a den leader at the end of the year because certain parents never bothered to pick up their kids when the meeting ended, in certain instances he had to drive them home.
Lack of parental involvement makes the kids vulnerable, and gives a pedophile free run of the kids.
Of course, those same uninvolved parents would have been the first to scream for a lawyer once they learn their little Johnny had been sodomized by a scout leader.
Be involved in your kids lives........as their parent you should be their best mentor.

It's sad that there is not a definitive way to detect sexually perverted people, prior to them taking on positons where children are involved. You can run a background and police check, however, a good majority of those who go after children have no criminal history.
The only defense is "two unrelated adults" when children are to be left in potentially compromising situations.
It's just a speculation, Thom, but I wouldn't be surprised that if a 20 year study or something like that were conducted, one may discover that the majority of people with criminal histories can actually be trusted with children more than people without criminal histories.

It seems that keeping private prisons full (kick backs) is more important than liberty, evidence, ethics, or conscience. You dont get the point. Homosexuals are born homosexuals. They dont want to harm anyone. They have no victum. Pedophiles are made. They were sexually abused as children or they saw a sibling abused. They harbor alot of anger. They get thier sexual grtification from harming another. They have a victum. They sometimes will physically abuse and/or kill thier victums.
And yes you are right the BSA can exclude whomever they want. They do this at a risk because they can be sued for discrimination.
I don't know about the rest of you but I noticed this guy did not waive his right to a detention hearing, and being that he once worked as a lawyer, that means he knew this information would leak out. It makes me wonder if there is more to this story...like, is this just a case of misunderstanding gone way overboard? Yeah, I sort of doubt it...even though one of his charges is possession of child pornography, yet there is no evidence presented in this story that there were any images on his computer of child pornography discovered. I am not talking about this story being rewritten tomorrow, but right now...there is none. I mean, this guy KNEW this information would leak out. Maybe this is his way of protesting his innocence.
I can certainly understand the Boy Scouts dismissing him, though. It's probably just a "just in case" move, sort of a deck move...but the state, even if it is wrong, doesn't like to made a fool of. I consider it opportunistic that anyone would try to introduce the homosexual being part of Boy Scouts argument into this story, though. You guys just don't get it and you never will.
