'Weird week' in Lubbock: Judge's 'civil war' comments make Republicans cringe

Stephen Spillman / Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Lubbock County Judge Tom Head, right, talks with Texas Governor Rick Perry in Lubbock, Tex. on May 8.

The arid West Texas community of Lubbock found itself in the national spotlight after a county judge asserted on television that if President Barack Obama is reelected, the country will be under threat of invasion by the United Nations and should brace for a possible civil war.

The comments, made by Lubbock County Judge Thomas Head in a bid to raise local property taxes, have prompted Democrats to call for his resignation. They’ve also generated a busy, and awkward, week for some local Republicans.

"It’s been a weird week," said Carl Tepper, chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party, who has been deluged by calls from around the country.

"I don’t agree with the tax raise. I don’t agree that the U.N. is invading the U.S. I’m not a conspiracy theorist," Tepper told NBC News Friday. "The great majority of Lubbock, Texas, does not agree with Judge Head on this issue."

The furor started on Tuesday evening when Head appeared on a local Fox television station to drum up support for a 1.7 percent tax increase to bolster the county budget. Head’s comments veered into his concerns about civil unrest in the event of Obama’s election to a second term.

"He’s going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the U.N., and what is going to happen when that happens?" Head said. "I’m thinking the worst. Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we’re not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations. We’re talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy."

"Now what’s going to happen if we do that, if the public decides to do that? He’s going to send in U.N. troops. I don’t want ’em in Lubbock County. OK. So I’m going to stand in front of their armored personnel carrier and say, 'You’re not coming in here'."

On Wednesday, Head said his remarks were taken out of context, and he meant them as a worst-case scenario, according toa report in Lubbock Avalanche Journal

He did not respond to NBC calls for comment.

At a news conference on Thursday, Kenny Ketner, chairman of the Lubbock County Democratic Party charged that Head’s impartiality as a judge had been violated as a result of the comments, according to the Journal report.

"Public officials have greater responsibility not to spout off about conspiracies and extremist fantasies," Ketner said.

"Judge Head’s statements on the United Nations invasion raise serious questions about his mental competency to hold elected office," according to the Texas state Democratic chair Gilberto Hinojosa, cited by a report in the Houston Chronicle.

Head’s comment is "not only ridiculous, it’s dangerous. It’s crystal clear that Judge Head should resign," Hinojosa added.

Head's is an elected county judge; his position is not slated for a vote until 2014.

Tepper, of the Lubbock Republican Party, said he does not expect efforts for Head’s removal to gain any traction.

He said that while most people disagree with Head’s comments, there are concerns about federal policies that affect Lubbock, a community 300 miles west of Dallas that relies heavily on ranching and oil.

"I have had a lot of people who are concerned with the Obama administration and their national environmental agendas," said Tepper. "This is an energy part of the country. When drilling is limited (by regulations) and the use of coal is limited, that is of great concern to the voters and the people of West Texas."

But he said Lubbock, Texas, was really "Lubbock, America," a nice family oriented community that has oil, cotton and cowboys, as well as sophistication and a diverse set of views.

"We are very conservative, but I want to stress we have respect for the president, and for the federal government," Tepper said. "If we don’t like the president, we will try to beat him in the voting booth."

Texas is the State of many of my ancestors, and a fine State it is. Making flippant and off-handed remarks seems to land most anyone on the front page these days. It really depends upon which news you watch, as to who is knocking whom. Dumping on any State of these United States is not acceptable.

Obama has arrested and repatriated more illegal immigrants on U.S. soil, than any other modern day U.S. President. And yes, I've checked into that. So, I'm not sure about the comment of "Freedom." But I won't rant on it either.

As an older American, natural born U.S. Citizen, I've seen them come and I've seen them go. Before you make your decision at the ballot booth, younger voters, pose yourself one question:

"Why does this person want to be President of these United States?"

President is a thankless, mean, under-payed, and difficult job. Just why would that person want the job?

Do they have a personal agenda? (the worst kind)

Do they want the status? (acceptable)

Do they feel the need to continue a family tradition? (neither good nor bad)

Do they honestly feel that they have something to offer this country that shall improve the lives and futures of all U.S. Citizens, regardless of all else? (The best kind) But we haven't had one of this kind of candidate for many years running.

And I much recommend that you read the book regarding Obama's agenda, "2016." Whether you accept or deny the books premise is immaterial.

And likewise, do a full search on Mr. Romney. What is he up to? I haven't a clue. Do you? And expletives, penned-bombardments, and rage-rants don't count. And he or she that screams the loudest isn't the winner.

Just use the good sense that you have been given.

John: Get a clue, Obama doesn't have the power to just unilaterally ignore the DOMA, immigration laws, make his own laws or stop enforcing laws just because he doesn't agree with them. But, guess what skippy, Obama has done ALL of those things. So your argument that Obama has to "go through Congress" may be totally right in theory, but in practice, Obama has said "F congress, I'll do it if I feel like it."

Republicans need to combine all their crazy theories into one, unified message. Here is what I am thinking...

Obama is not an American citizen because he does not have a birth certificate. He is an alien... from space. If he wins a second term, he will force everyone to gay marry. This will cause a civil war from those who do not want to gay marry. So Obama will have the UN invade to fight the civil war, and many will die. Luckily, Obamacare is a giant conspiracy to take our money and fund zombie research, and illegals will be used to hand out this new Obamacare zombie medicine. Soon his zombie army will rise up and force abortions on the population, making sure no more humans are born. They will also hand out condoms to your children. Then, once everyone is a zombie, Obama will have Muslims come in and bomb everyone, then take over... holding the country in Sharia Law until Obama's mother-ship arrives and the alien invasion begins.

There... that should just about cover all the Republican theories in one nice, little package.

@Conservative Hate to inform you that you are wrong. Obama used an executive order to pass the Dream Act, which was in congress since 2010. It passed the House which was majority Democrat then, and the Senate invoked cloture due to needing 2/3 vote to pass, which allowed them to debate later. There were no rules or guidelines as to how & when a president could use an executive order until, I believe the 1980's, which states that the president can pass legislation with a executive order, as long as the bill has been voted on in the house and senate. So he didn't create a new law, he moved passed Senate because they couldn't come to 2/3 vote of Nay or Yea. Which has been a huge problem since Obama's election, especially involving bill passage about taxation & job growth. There have been several acts about taxation sponsored by Republicans and Democrats, and Congress can't come to a full pass decision on which way to go. House just passed the

HR 6169 - Pathway to Job Creation through a Simpler, Fairer Tax Code Act of 2012 - Key Vote

a Republican sponsored bill, with no democrat vote for passage. I suggest those that understand legislation take a some time to read it. Might give you an idea what the GOP is pushing for taxation wise. It's in the Senate now.

@aliveinsd - Just use the good sense that you have been given.

That is a problem if you depend on it. Most people have a distinct lack of "good sense." There is that saying about how common sense isn't very common. It's sad, but a large segment of the population isn't horribly smart. Whether due to socioeconomic issues, genetics, upbringing, etc. the effect is the same... Compounded by the lack of common sense and further compounded by the strange phenomenon in which even individuals with high intelligence/IQ exhibit lowered intelligence/IQ when gathered into a large group/mob... (i.e. the Republican collective/party, the Democratic collective/party...)

On top of that, many of us are also lazy and either won't or can't expend the effort to pick through the B.S. and biased news and facts to come up with something that makes sense and is as unbiased as possible, or just do not possess the capacity to do so. You'd think it'd be more important to people, since it really does affect us all, and taking what politicians and the like say at face value is asking for a whole boatload of hurt.

And then there's the whole vote for who you think the best candidate truly is or who you think would do the best job, etc. versus voting along party lines. I am a "Democrat", I guess, and I USED to do the former, voting for who I thought would be most competent regardless of party affiliation. But after seeing the party agendas (Democrats voting for various pet causes and diluting their end results and the extremely organized Republican party whose sole goal seems to be "CRUSH THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!!...") I just gave up trying to do what's right and now I just look for the "Democratic Party" tag after the candidate on the ballot.

I just wish the Republican party would stop offering up nutjobs like Palin, McCain, Perry, Santorum, Romney and the like. ESPECIALLY those who have an insane and fanatic religious rampage they want to go on once they get in office.

Reply to cf:

While it's true that the average IQ (tested intelligence quotient) of the average U.S. Citizen, is about 95.....everyone of age, not jailed, and mentally competent (in the broad sense), has the right to vote. And yes, many make decisions based on untrue information, following the leader, or ignorance of the issues; they have that right.

While intelligence is very important, it doesn't qualify a person as "good" nor "bad." Intelligence shouldn't be the measure of a persons worth, but rather their aptitude to a specific job or task. Some very smart people have done some very bad things. And often those people that are convicted and sent to prison, get there by being too easy to catch and convict = not very bright.

But let's all give it our best vote, and to the best of our informed abilities, come this November. If we know in our hearts that we have each voted with full knowledge and our best sense, then we can all go back home satisfied to await the outcome.

A President isn't forever, and that's a good thing. Eight years maximum, and out. Then we try again, and sometimes again.....and again....

Patriots (also known as American Whigs, Revolutionaries, Congress-Men or Rebels) were the colonists of the British Thirteen United Colonies who violently rebelled against British control during the American Revolution and in July 1776 declared the United States of America an independent nation. Their rebellion was based on the political philosophy of republicanism, as expressed by pamphleteers, such as Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and Thomas Paine.

CNR, sorry, but you are incorrect. While Jefferson said he was into small governement, he actually did a lot to expand the role of the federal gov't during his terms. (Bush claimed likewise, but then we had a massive increase of the fed under him.) See,"The Louisiana Purchase".

In many respects, T.J. was radically liberal. Example: He proposed that every 50 years all wealth would be collected and then re-distributed evenly amongst all Americans. He was dead-set against the extreme gaps in wealth. That is liberal well beyond anything in the Democratic platform today. Even the American Communist Party is not seeking that. T.J. would be mad at what the GOP has done for rich people over the course of the party's long history.

You just don't know your history. Or more likely, you try to distort history to support your own extreme views. We've seen it for too long from the Right.

Though TJ was against Big Government expanding for the sake of Big Government he wasn't against the United States itself expanding hence the The Louisiana Purchase".

Kind of disingenuous of you to attempt to use that purchase as an example!

Also your statement proposed that every 50 years all wealth would be collected and then re-distributed evenly amongst all Americans....is again misrepresented and taken out of Context!

Thomas Jefferson did have I killed the Banks carved on his Tomb Stone After all!

Thomas was much more of a Libertarian than ever a Liberal as in today's context!

Besides, some of the biggest a-holes I know are fairly intelligent, though they seem to think they're more intelligent than they really are and some of the less intelligent people I know are the nicest people I know. Amunaka: I think the Founding Fathers were pragmatic libertarians. I'll never claim to be an American history expert, but I have read a few books on the subject, as well as the Federalist papers, which goes beyond the basics taught in school when I was a kid.

They understood the need for regionalized organizational government, and though there were sometimes fierce disagreements as to what the scope of that government should be, they also understood the logic of Franklin quite clearly when he said: 'Gentlemen, we must all hang together, or we shall most assuredly all hang separately."

The one goal they all had, regardless of their own disagreements, was to separate from the British crown. Ironically enough, that was NOT the goal of most of the colonists at the time. Many, if not most, wanted to stay loyal to the Crown.

I think it's quite interesting that when Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, he first took pains to outline what he believed were the foundations of all men who wanted to be free, regardless of where they lived. He didn't even get around to mentioning Britain until about a quarter of the way through the paper.

While his words are certainly great, given Jefferson's known penchant for white superiority, it was a bit ironic, not to mention hypocritical, since he apparently had a limited view of what the phrase "all men are created equal" really meant. Jefferson was not infallible, he made just as many mistakes as anyone else. Regardless of what his personal philosophical failures were at the time, the principles he put forth, became to be regarded by many as timeless universal truths, even if the scope of the person who wrote them at the time was limited. Jefferson was very proud of his writing the Declaration, even to the degree that he wanted that memorialized on his tombstone, but I think even he would be amazed at the degree to which America succeeded, as well as almost failed, 75 some odd years later with the Civil War.

The Founding Fathers were certainly aware of the hypocrisy of the slavery issue, but as I said, they were also pragmatic about what it would take to hold the colonies together. I would venture to say that very few people understand the fact, that by the time the Constitution was finally ratified in 1787, the experiment called America almost fell apart on more than a few occasions. Ironically, in some of those cases, just as today, the arguments were about who was going to pay the debt of the states and the cost of the war.

I guess some things never change.

Amunaka, I don't know what your political leanings are, but I can tell you we share one very important common trait: We both think black licorice is nasty stuff!

        Chris:

You're confusing expansion of territory with expansion of government. They are not the same thing. The LP was a vast expanse of land that had to be organized. It took several decades for it to be fully divided into states. To suggest that since some expansion of managerial government was necessary to facilitate that development, that it somehow paints Jefferson as a hypocrite in that regard, is a bit of a stretch.

On the other hand, I agree with you completely about Bush. He was just a Republican who felt that the people who didn't want the Democrats spending money, would surely want his spending. I can tell you for a fact that I didn't want his spending either.

A pox on the houses of both parties I say!

As to your point about Jefferson wanting wealth redistribution, I can only tell you that it was of such insignificance in the scope of his work that the two biographies I've read about Jefferson didn't even bother to include it.

Men of great mind, and certainly Jefferson was one of those, may come up with hundreds or thousands of ideas in a lifetime. Not all those are going to be good ideas, and certainly not all of those will be practical. I imagine that even Jefferson could see the difficulties of confiscating everyone's wealth and trying to redistribute it. Just because he may have written it down somewhere at sometime isn't necessarily indicative of the strength of belief he put into such a thought. I would submit that in the grand scheme of things, this particular concept is so obscure, relative to the other great ideas he had, that it wasn't even worth addressing. Certainly the two biographies I have read didn't think so.

Not to mention, that just as today, I imagine there were going to be a lot of people getting pretty ticked off that the government was going to come in and demand everything they have, and then get back less.

When I say Jeffersonian liberalism, that is a phrase reflective of the time period, not limited exclusively to the thoughts of only Jefferson. To do so would be to minimize the contributions of the rest of the Founding Fathers.

My favorite Jefferson quote is this: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of people under the pretense of taking care of them."

        I couldn't agree more.

        That's exactly correct.

Obama is SMART! the knuckle draggers on the right love to call President Obama "a dum igerant idyut", but he's anything but.

He only strikes when he needs to.

He is "talk softly and carry a big stick", personified.

Think about Obama's moves thus far, only hitting when it was MOST opportune.

Right now, he doesn't really need to do much, the Rupublicans are falling all over themselves to out crazy each other.

        Just wait until the debates!

Romney is going to get a Chicago Style ass kicking unlike anything he's ever had in his life.

Remember, Romney has never had any real challenges in his whole life!

and a <GASP> Black man is going to paint him into a corner..... and then Mitt will start to stutter (like he does anytime he gets nervous..

And President Obama is going to go for the Jugular.

I can't wait until the debates!

        Sam627556

Gee, I guess this is why OBAMA is quiet, he does not have to lift a finger because the RIGHT will destroy themselves without any help, that's why I say these have to be the most ignorant citizens America has, they can't think for themselves and when they do something like this happens.

He will leave the USA like he did all the other jobs he took over. Massive unempolyement, No Social Security No Medicare No Needed healthcare, He will leave broken lives and homeless citizens when he leaves.

Vote for President Obama, one poster above has a good list of all the things President Obama has done and done very successfully despite Obstruction from the Grand Obstructionist Party.

Agreed he wasn't talking about the Civil War because he mentioned Lexington and Concord, which happened to be the first two military battles of the American Revolutionary War. However, his comment directly after referencing those locations, "take up arms and get rid of the guy," is essentially the same logic the south used when it decided to fight the Civil War. Texas is kind of like afghanistan, they will fight anybody they consider an outsider, even if it does them no good in the end. In the end, Texas will bend over and take it, just like the south did during the civil war. Brains beat brawn, and they have a severe deficiency of brains down there in Texas these days.

aliveinsd, #1.25, overall, I support your post, with one exception. If people want to read 2016, they should first vet the author, Dinesh D'Souza, as I did. He is considered to be very conservative, so I can't see how bias would not be present in his writing. You can simply Google "D'Souza" and access the results returned. A very conservative friend of mine from high school embraces D'Souza and told me that is how he found about the outrageous Brazilian Oil Loan which proves how anti-American Obama is because he ordered the US Treasury to loan taxpayer money to a Brazilian company for offshore drilling and then sell all the oil to China. I checked this out via Snopes and FactCheck.org, and it is totally false, but it is a great example of the divisive propaganda being foisted upon the American people by some elements in our country today. I highly recommend that all of you not take everything you read or hear carte blanche. As difficult as it may be in these times of political acrimony and mud slinging, try to find non-partisan, unbiased, objective and verifiable sources of information. We all know there are sources that are very slanted these days, avoid them, you owe it to yourselves.

Judge Head's statements connect to a mentality, that is absolutely driven by a supremacist ideology - For so many from that part of the country, the Civil War is not over!

The whole notion of "Our Southern Heritage" is built on the belief that whites are naturally more superior than "blacks," as the institution of slavery helped them and their fore-parents to build a financial empire in the south!! Instead of having some shame, remorse and misgivings about the systematic destruction of an entire race of people, many southerners want to arrogantly hold on to their glory yester-years, and everything symbolic from it - Dixie is their national anthem!!

Southern heritage is not based on racial superiority. The civil war, contrary to popular belief was not fought just to free slaves. It was fought between people who wanted to run their own lives and a government who wanted to take away their rights and livelihoods. Not to say that slavery was right, but that was the basis of their economy. It was the way things were done for hundreds of years. To them it was unreasonable interference by the government. The southern states ceded because they wanted to live their lives on their terms, so to them it was a "war of northern agression" when the union crammed its laws down their throats. Not unlike today where someone is telling you cant have a gun or abortion or gay marriage or cigarette or a soft drink over a certain size and the other side is screaming yes we should be able to. Southern heritage is based on strong opinions of what freedom is and the balls to stand up to oppression.

pugsley1234: Your post is understandable, however, what if...? We would have countrywide chaos. The Civil War could have been avoided if the southerners had compromised. Henry Clay from KY came up with a solid compromise, but the southern leaders already had a lot of money invested and didn't want to lose their chance to 'make' it. Sad but true. That's not to say Lincoln and his guys didn't mind making a few bucks on the war. They really thought it would be a short war, like bush/cheney thought going to Iraq would be a cakewalk. After a couple years, Lincoln saw clearly the end was not near. He did try to reason with his party but it was no go. In 1863, the Gettysburg Address at the new Cemetery and to awaken the populace, to no avail. In 1865, Sherman did his infamous march destroying what lay in his path - destroying a history of many. The End. It still saddens me to think of the wanton waste, the humanity and history lost because of man's egotism, lacking the ability to recognize we are all the same under our skin. Whatever.

Sam: I love the euphemisms of the liberals. If Romney flip flops, Obama "evolves". If I'm angry, the liberal is "passionate". I guess when Biden says Obamacare was a big f'ing deal, you just overlook such crassness when used by liberals. Ah yes, when Biden said that, the liberals just laughed it off...."ha ha ha, that's just 'ol Joe", they said.

Tell me, do you apply the same standard to him? Maybe you do, but I'll wager you're not so offended that you won't vote for Obama again will you?

Funny how there is always a much nicer sounding alternative for the liberal side of things. If you want to take it as anger, that's your choice. Actually, I'm a very happy kinna guy, but I don't hide my disgust of liberalism.

Pugsley is one of those people who thinks the Civil War never ended. The war according to him, and others had nothing to do with slavery. It was those horrible yankees telling us Southerners what we couldn't do, hence the War of Northern Aggression euphenism. It is kind of like those folks here in Texas trying to rewrite history books with out Thomas Jefferson or Cesar Chavez, we will just forget what happened because we didn't like them or the outcome of their actions. Only problem is that slavery in America was real, and Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President was a deist, and Chavez caused problems with migrant workers.

Just to correct a few things. The Civil War was fought because the southerners didn't want a federal government telling them how to live. Actually telling them to stop the institution of slavery. And slavery was the backbone of the southern economy and prosperity. They had a literal army of workers that had no rights, no pay, and no human decency. My wife is from the south, the civil war battles happened on some of her relatives land, the battle of Franklin, TN, for one, in her great aunt's front yard. Her family had own slaves. She would have arguments with them about states rights and slavery. The war was always about slavery, that was the main states right, to own and hold slaves. The southerners were not going to give up the institution of slavery without a fight, as history has proved.

If you read all the posted reasons why people hate President Obama, and are so almost violently opposed to his second term, it is because he is black. The southerners hate the thought of a black family in the white, it makes them crazy. Most of President Obama's opposition is from the south, is it not rational it's racial. There is nothing like an articulate, powerful black leader to make these guys apoplectic. They can't say they hate him because he's black, instead they say, he's a socialist, a Muslim, not born in America, a traitor, a UN stooge, will bring in Sharia law, will seed our government to the UN, a communist, a college cheat, all from a group of people that think that ignorance and stupidity are virtues. As a white middle class and middle aged man from Oregon, I think President Obama is one of the best Presidents were every had, and if it wasn't him, we would be spending most of our time is soup kitchen lines.

I was born and raised in Texas. I'm a 61 year old white woman. Even during the civil rights movement I can say that I have never heard anyone refer to the Civil War as the War of Northern Aggression.

Don't know where you live, how long you've been here, or who you hang out with but it seems you don't know that many Texans. Perhaps if you're a transplant they were pulling your leg?

                To all
Yes, most Texans are pretty conservative. It probably comes from the fact that the state is so big that people had to rely on each other more than a government that was hundreds of miles away. And the aftermath of the Civil War did bring the so-called carpetbaggers. The Texas Constitution is actually written on such a way as to prevent much government involvement. It's simply an inherited mindset. But we're becoming more and more liberal as times go by and the older set die off and the state becomes more urban.

As red as the state is in our history we have had 47 governors; 39 Democrats, 6 Republicans, 1 Unionist and 1 independent. So it's not all bad and we're not all bat-@!$%# crazy.

This judge is just an idiot. I find it funny that he is using fear to push through a TAX INCREASE (guess he hasn't signed Grover's pledge). People in Lubbock aren't stupid, nor are they THAT conservative. He won't be re-elected. He just signed his own political death warrant

Barlow - that's one of the most honest comments I've read to one of these articles, and I strongly agree with you. I really believe that much of the vitriol is born out of pure blind hatred and/or racism. Facts are facts and the country *IS* turning around under his government. The numbers simply do not lie. I won't go into those details about that, but I will say this - any rational mind, and you don't even have to be an economist, can comprehend that Obama inherited a devastated economy and that turning it around would *not* be an overnight project. Not only was there the 2008 crash (right before Bush left), but there was also the dot com burst right after Bush came into office, and then massive spending on a completely illegal war. (Sorry folks, there were no WMDs!) So for the economy to be doing as well as it is doing now, is actually remarkable.

I am completely boggled by the fact that people actually *blame* Obama for the mess - it's quite honestly ludicrous. You would have to be 4 years old to even think that or have severe amnesia of the 8 years before that. On top of that, he has had Republican obstruction in congres for years now. So really, if you want to blame the slow recovery somewhere, maybe blame it on the ones that aren't allowing the President's policies to pass.

The fact that some of these people still blame Obama for the mess we are gradually coming out of show you what intellect they posess. On the front pages of most News papers and tv and the internet it has been posted that of all the world countries the US is far ahead in the recovery process than any other country. When Obama got to Washington this country was sliding into a depression. He along with a democratic congress stopped the flow and told people this was not going to be a short recovery and he may not be President when we finally recovered in maybe 10 years. Now we are faced daily with reports from other countries having problems that reflect on us here and hold us back. We did not ask for the new world order. We did not ask to change this country from a manufacturing base to a "service" base. Now when we try to recover we cannot go too quickly because we have no manufacturing base to speak of. If we do not have a manufacturing base where are the jobs going to come from. We cannot tax imports yet every month we imprt billions more than we ship out. Now we see one party filled with a bunch of people who appear to not even seperate reality from fiction. All the way to the top of the ticket. This time when you vote you better vote for America. This may be your last chance cause if the nuts on the right get in you are not going to like living here. A 25% tax decrease to businesses of which only 43% pay any taxes at all and a 15% tax decrease + making the Bush tax cut permanent? That should be the last nail in the US coffin

Though the Republican Party had many prominent abolitionists such as Seward, its official policy was not abolition but the containment of slavery to with-in the states where it already existed. The southern slave owners and politicians wanted to extend slavery to the entire territory that the US had gained from Mexico.

In addition, prominent politicians such a Toombs and Ruffin had been advocating secession since Andrew Jackson's time. Many of these people had dreams of creating their own nation and then taking the northern Mexican states and Cuba to create the beginning of a South American Empire.

Remember the first aggressive acts of the Civil war or as we were taught in school the War Between the States, were from the Confederates.

Pugsley1234 You are right the war was not fought to end slavery but to preserve the Union. Ending slavery was just a happy result. On the southern side it was fought to extend slavery. The south convinced itself that slavery was moral and since it was moral it should be allowed everywhere. In otherwords they were trying to force their morality on everyone else. Sound familiar, doesn't it.

I think the republican party had a legitimate chance with all of the anti-obama sentiment but that they've decided to shoot themselves in the foot by offending everyone within ear shot. Why? Rush decided to share his "medicine" with all of them.

We all have our theories, opinions and in this case conspiracy theories but the fact he is a JUDGE is beyond scary. He should be out of there. There are supposed to be regulations and policies (FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE PEOPLE) to make sure that Judges and other officials are sane and able to carry out there duties in an unbiased state of manner and mind. After all this, ANY person who is judged by this man in court wouldn't have a hard time appealing on the basis of the state of this mans sanity. Waste of tax payer money and court time, he should be benched or at least given retirement if they want to be soft about it.

Since you obviously identify with the Left, I think you can answer this question must closer to home. All you would need to do is ask Charlie Rangel, Maxine Waters, or some of the recent Governors of Illinois. You could also ask Marion Berry, Barney Frank, or Joe Biden. In fact, truth be told, you could also ask a Kennedy or the Clintons. There are plenty on the right too, but don't act like your side is all innocent. What I personally find disgusting is that the Left will (generally but not quite always) back these guys to the hilt while the Right generally (but not always) kicks ours to the curb. Hell, just last night Debbie Wasserman Schultz flat out said she can lie to the Left's supporters and it doesn't matter. She said she can intentionally misquote a newspaper and that you all should just eat it up like candy. That it's ok as long as the message she wants to communicate gets across. (The message: give us money.) As a matter of fact, she was so blatant that not even an avowed leftist like Anderson Cooper could let her statements go. Notice: we're not even talking about state level politicians. We're talking about your main guys and gals here. Stop acting like a tool. Disagree if you want but have some intellectual integrity at least. If not, you have no place in a serious debate.

                      Here is a refresher Course:

It's easier to forget that the Democrats voted for it when they are blaming it on Bush. That way it sounds like they don't have any responsibility for it. However, I'd like to refresh their short memories with these little ditties.

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
                      --Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
--Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by:
-- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
-- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by:
-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them."
                      -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
                      -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
                      -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
                      -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
                      -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
                      -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
                      -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do"
                      -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
                      -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
                      -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
                      -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Is he a County Judge, if he is then his job is to manage the county. There is a difference between County Judges and District Judges and Circuit Judges. Again County Judges are managers, they decide county budgets and oversee they county business, they do not need a law degree. District and Circuit Judges are the ones that preside over legal matters.

In the you-can’t-make-up-this-stuff department, here’s what the Republican Party of Texas wrote into its 2012 platform as part of the section on education:

Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

Yes, you read that right. The party opposes the teaching of “higher order thinking skills” because it believes the purpose is to challenge a student’s “fixed beliefs” and undermine “parental authority.”

It opposes, among other things, early childhood education, sex education, and multicultural education, but supports “school subjects with emphasis on the Judeo-Christian principles upon which America was founded.”

Claim: Quotes reproduce statements made by Democratic leaders about Saddam Hussein's acquisition or possession of weapons of mass destruction.

                      Origins: All

the quotes listed above are substantially correct reproductions of statements made by various Democratic leaders regarding Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's acquisition or possession of weapons of mass destruction.

However, some of the quotes are truncated, and context is provided for none of them — several of these quotes were offered in the course of statements that clearly indicated the speaker was decidedly against unilateral military intervention in Iraq by the U.S.

Moreover, several of the quotes offered antedate the four nights of airstrikes unleashed against Iraq by U.S. and British forces during Operation Desert Fox in December 1998, after which Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Gen. Henry H. Shelton (chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) announced the action had been successful in "degrad[ing] Saddam Hussein's ability to deliver chemical, biological and nuclear weapons."

In the section below where we highlight these quotes, we've tried to provide sufficient surrounding material to make clear the context in which the quotes were offered as well as include links to the full text from which they were derived wherever possible.

If it was all smoke and mirrors, why did the US remove 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium from Iraq in 2008?

                      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25546334/ns/world_news-mideast_n_africa/t/secret-us-mission-hauls-uranium-iraq/

Saddam Hussein acquiring a nuke was not an if, but a when. What he had was not weapons grade, but he was obviously working on it and had acquired what is arguably one of the hardest parts to obtain.

I'm not saying there weren't misrepresentations, we're talking about politicians and they all lie, but the original argument I made was that contrary to the hypocritical belief of the Left, there are as many if not more in those ranks. I am tired, however, of the Big Lie that Saddam was just a peaceable guy that we picked on. He was a dirty murderer intent on killing more and had us in his sights and he was working on having the means to do so.

                        Uranium in Iraq

                        Posted on August 3, 2008

Q: Was it recently revealed that the U.S. found uranium in Iraq after the invasion in 2003?

A: No. Uranium recently shipped from Iraq to Canada was left over from Saddam Hussein’s defunct nuclear weapons program and had been in sealed containers, under guard, since the end of the first Gulf War in 1991. Claims that this material is "vindication" for President Bush’s WMD claims in 2003 are completely false.

                        http://www.factcheck.org/2008/08/uranium-in-iraq/

Iraqi president Saddam Hussein purchased the yellowcake in the early 1980s from Niger. Following the Persian Gulf War in 1991, the IAEA discovered and safeguarded the material at Tuwaitha until 1998, when its inspectors were ousted from Iraq. International inspectors were not invited back into the country until 2002, on the brink of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. An IAEA report prior to the 2003 war concluded that all declared uranium compounds in Iraq were untouched during the suspension on inspections.

The nuclear compound at Tuwaitha was the center of concern in 2003, when the agency reported looting of the complex after Iraqi soldiers and civilian guards abandoned their posts during combat in mid-March. By April, U.S. forces had secured the facilities. A senior defense official in June 2003 said the site was found "in disarray" and that some of the IAEA seals had been broken. An IAEA inspection shortly thereafter discovered uranium compounds scattered across the floor and many storage containers emptied or missing. Some of the barrels used in the Tuwaitha facilities had been sold to Iraqi locals to store drinking water and food. The IAEA recovered all of the spilled uranium, which was repackaged after all materials had successfully been accounted for.

I think we're all happy that Saddam is gone Jim, don't get me wrong, but the ends do not justify the means and what we did there set a dangerous precedent. What you and Times seem to be missing is that democrats voted for this war yes, but they were misled to do so because Bush claimed that his administration had "intelligence" that Iraq had WMDs - which as we know now was proven to be completely false. Hey, I'm all for taking down a vile dictator, but I would have been much more comfortable if they had just said "Let's go take down Saddam" with no pretense involved. If they had U.N. cooperation in such an effort, I would have been all for it, simply as a matter of furthering world peace. However, the U.N. was not cooperative and the war was based on a lie, which is extremely low.

Democrats and Republicans alike did not vote to start the war in Iraq. They ceded their responsibility to Bush who had to make the last decision to go to war if he could prove iraq was a clear and present danger to this country. At the time he "decided" he knew from the reports available to him they were not. Saddam could have been eliminted from within his own country but the Neocons wanted to get started on their quest for world domination and restructuring the middle east was the start. So all that posting of facts about democrats and WMD's is a lot of bull. At the time before the UN sanctions they were valid. When Jr went to war they were not. Big difference.

Why hasn't Bush II, Cheney and Rice been indicted in the World Court for crimes against humanity? I know President Obama stated after being elected he would not pursue criminal charges against Bush and we know the World Court indicted Powell for leading the Iraq War for crimes against humanity. It is my most sincere stance we should hold leaders of the US responsible for atrocious crimes against other countries. If we did this but once our leaders would think twice before throwing the war switch. It is not too late to bring Bush II and his minions to justice to show the world we do have democracy and justice in this country.

We all have our opinions, theories and in this case conspiracy theories. But this man is a JUDGE, scary. He should resign or retire. There are suppose to be observations, tests etc...to make sure our public officials (especially judges) are sane, this man is not! Now ANY person who is in his court and sentenced will have NO problem being granted an appeal based on the mental state of the judge who heard his case. Another waste of taxpayers money and court time by keeping him in.

@Lea these are beyond comments by republicans! This is what they actually believe and the fact that they still can hold positions and office is beyond me. If your neighbor at dinner said these things you'd think them to be loony, and you'd be right!

County Judges in Texas are elected heads of local county government. They don't have to be lawyers (not that lawyers can't be crazy) or well educated. Clearly, Tom Head is ignorant and deluded. But I've heard many a Texan say similar things about whomever they oppose. It is a deep strain of political nonsense that should be kept in Texas.

NBC's Kari Huus clearly knows nothing about Lubbock. It is dry, especially this year and last, but it is not yet a desert and it is over 325 miles west of Dallas. West Texas is unique place. I hope that someday Tom Head and his ilk will become as scarce as prairie dogs.

Sad part about this nonsense, I'm sure there are a lot of people who believe him that an invasion by the UN is just around the corner, December maybe January. Wow. Is it stupid or ignorant to wonder how a submarine from China could travel to within a couple of miles of Los Angeles and shoot off a missile that could have killed 22 Million people???? Am I delusional to wonder how our government is so inept that it allows that to happen? Well it happened again with a Soviet sub in the gulf of Mexico but without the missile launch. Dont pee on my leg and tell me its raining.

Times running out - in your post trying to show that early Americans were Republican is wrong. You have to understand that there is a difference between being a Republican and Republicanism. This country was meant to be a republic and not a democracy, the founders were not too fond of democracies. Today's republican party doesn't have much in common with the ideas of the founders. Don't get me wrong it's not only the modern republican party but also the democrats. Both sides try to claim the founders would be on their side when the truth is they wouldn't be on either side of today's parties.

Conservative - Good posts on Jefferson, more needs to be taught about the founding fathers, especially Jefferson and Washington. You should read Jefferson's autobiography if you haven't already. You're right he wasn't perfect but he did have more foresight and intelligence than the politicians we have today.

Scrambl: I'm an Independent, but what you said is not true at all. There are even many Fox commentators who are Democrats...ie, Juan Williams and many others who come on the shows. It IS a known fact that the large majority of the MSM, based in NY, employing mainly liberals is VERY LEFT leaning. Even Chuck Todd has admitted to more nasty campaign reporting coming from their side. It was a known fact that it affected the 2008 election, but seems to be far worse now. People have to do their own research to know what is REALLY going on now, and owe it to all of us to research, especially on your Celebrity President...who has proven (by the economy and downfall of this country on his watch), that it takes far more that being "cool" to efectively lead this country! The MSM is fluffing it all up, and has ignored reporting anything negative about him. It should be dawning on most of you how unrealistic that is in such historically low times for our country. It could only get even worse if we don't change course....but SOMETHING has to be done, while our President continues to romp around with his superstar friends....which is nothing new.

If we want to talk DANGER here, the MSM is far beyond irresponsible reporting. Don't take MY word for it. Do your OWN research and STOP believing the majority of the MSM, including Fox.

PS: Notice when Republicans do go on shows on NBC, MSNBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, ETC they are ganged up on by the Liberal hosts.

                            Aug 19, 2012 1:00 AM EDT

Why does Paul Ryan scare the president so much? Because Obama has broken his promises, and it’s clear that the GOP ticket’s path to prosperity is our only hope.

And on top of this, :

Hollywood bailing on President Obama and the Democratic National Convention

LOS ANGELES – President Obama recently praised Hollywood superstar George Clooney, calling him a “wonderful guy” and good friend. But even in the wake of the headline-grabbing compliments, a rep for the Oscar-winning actor confirmed he will not be attending the forthcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

And it seems the majority of Clooney's high-powered Hollywood counterparts are also passing on the 2012 convention – a far cry from 2008’s showdown in Denver, Colorado which attracted dozens of A-listers including Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Silverman, Fallout Boy, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper, Ashanti, Fran Drescher, Ashley Judd, Rage Against the Machine, Aisha Tyler, Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon, Jon Hamm, Cash Warren, Jessica Alba, Fergie, Will.i.am, Kanye West, Matthew Modine, Kerry Washington, Stevie Wonder, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Hudson, Shawn Johnson, Forest Whitaker, Star Jones, Wilmer Valderama, Daniel Dae Kim, Kelly Hu, Jamie Foxx, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Chevy Chase, Richard Dreyfuss, Melissa Etheridge and Pharrell Williams.

Ever seen Democrats on Fox? Sure, they'll get a chance to tell their side and then they get interrupted, yelled at and slammed by the likes of Hannity. They are far from "fair and balanced."

Augere: The great majority of the MSM is based in liberal NY, and now has exclusely liberal journalists and hosts. Fox is the only one leaning right among about 90+ % leaning left. They have to try harder to make any points, although I agree that Hannity should change his tactics somewhat....he gets too intense.

The majority of the media being liberal is fair and balanced? WHAT happened to rsponsible journalism we used to know? Money happened, that's what.

People HAVE to do independent research these days. It is the only responsible thing to do.

Even if most of the news media leans left, it is because most people in the US are moderates who leans left. However, most news agencies are moderate and balanced between the two, they just aren't conservative enough for your taste. When was journalism responsible by your tastes? Right now on Fox the article is "Is Obama programming the media to his favor" (20:36 pacific time)... Now it's "Does MSM's extensive coverage of Akin story suggest bias?" (20:44). Presidential wannabee Huckabee has his own show. Soon Donald Trump will be on again trying to convince America that Obama is an illegal alien again. If it wasn't for the liberal media, the Right would be able to convince people that the Soviet Union still exists and planning to attack us from the inside with spies.

Remember, if it wasn't for the liberals, women wouldn't be allowed to vote, blacks will at best be second class citizens and religions other than Christianity wouldn't be tolerated and given any rights to worship. This is something that Fox doesn't want anyone to know.

I respectfuly disagree that majority of Amerians are moderates who lean left.

MY "tastes" have nothing to do with logic. I research everything out, and DON'T accept all of Fox, either...but they're only a small percentage of the media. How can the news reporting NOT be biased when the huge majority of media leans/reports... liberal/ left, and people accept it as gospel without researching it out ?

The advent of the computer has been good for many things...too bad beople have become too lazy to do research in their preference for instant info', right or wrong. They owe it to ALL of us to be more independently informed.

Would you prefer that I say that the majority of Americans are moderates, period? Regardless, they are considered left leaning to Romeny/Ryan conservatives. Do you believe that the majority of the US are Christian conservatives and anyone leaning to the left are radicals with some kind of agenda working with the devil that helped succeed with their goals? Would you like to explain why there are so many "blue" states or that Obama has at least an even rating with Romney, if not higher? And what does the "liberal" news say that conflicts with your research and where do you get your research?

Human frailties, what is it about politics and sex?. But as an earlier poster alluded, we are cleaning Congress and it'll take a little while to get the Democratics working for us as they should. Now, you do your part and clean out the repub/tparty once and for all. WE might have differences, but dialogue without rancor is the way to go. Bottom line non-negotiable is: WE want a United State of America. Romney/Ryan want a U.S. of Corporations. OK if we move them to South America?

It's downright DANGEROUS to follow a side without question. As an independent, I have been closely following both sides, and the Donkey is far removed from where he used to be... presently leaning heavily toward Socialism. Is THAT what you want for us?

Oh, do tell, how is your future in jeapardy? Is Romney and his Catholic boy toy going to make our economy better? The best he could do is propose simular things that Obama pushed and get actual corporation from the Republicans in Congress and take credit while further trashing his predecessor's reputation. More than likely it will stay the same while his administration balances the budget for the conservative's own religious ambitions.

With these bastards, we'll have nothing to look foward to. They'll erode the purpose of the First Amendment- especially the Seperation of Church and State, overturn the rights of their unwanted elements of society (non-Christians, liberals, homosexuals, people who they think are Communists, non-white immigrants- regardless if they are legal or not), go to war with the Muslims in the Middle East and turn this into a Christian theocracy in which only certain kinds of people will live a comfortable life. I don't even need to mention the @!$%#ty relationship we'll have with other countries.

Yes, it's downright DANGEROUS to follow a side without question.

Yet another example of extremist dogma being echoed from the fringes of society as people choose up sides based upon what information source they decide to pay attention to. Possibly a result of the control of information by only a few in our society.

Good thing the judge didn't mention ET comming to get us, they've probably already hammered out a truce on that front!!! LOL!! Anything in his court will be appealed, don't be surprised when we hear about the car accident or a hunting trip with Cheany.

There is no way the UN can come in here and take over. The small force of "peace keepers" they have can't even keep a smal african country quite. Now Obama ramming through laws that mirror international law and allowing some international laws to apply here, THAT could happen.

You obviously dont understand whats been going on over the last 50 years. The UN can mobilize a huge Army if it wanted. It would take a concensus of opinion of the other countries but thats what the "International Small Arms Treaty" is all about. They are aligning other countries against us.

Or maybe he meant civil engineering of bridges and not building them but it surely wasn't about civil war you're twisting what he said to make it fit your agenda What he actually said was if Obama is re-elected civil engineers wouldn't be able to design bridges properly so he would have to stand in front of an armiore and beside a personal letter carrier Geezzz I don't understand how you people couldn't pick up on that

Rumor has it that he is going to go with a UN resolution to disarm the American people. As the story goes the UN wants the American citizens to turn in their weapons. How true this is I don't know but if that were the case you would have a civil war since he would be trying to go counter to the Constitution and repeal one of our Constitutional rights. I can see a civil war over any of our rights in the Constitution. One e-mail that crossed my desk stated that there were 50million armed citizens in the US. If the UN can't control a few ragheads I doubt that they want to tackle an army of 50million. The UN forces are made up of many nations and I don't think they will want that much of a fight. This would make the civil rights protest of the 60s look like a childs tea party. That's why gun sales spiked when he got elected. I bet that judge gets re-elected.

Thats why Obama has been quiet about guns, he is trying to torpedo the constitution. Just imagine, if the U.N. tries to disarm the american citizen, the amount of bloodshed/civil war that would follow. I don't know anybody that would relinquish their guns to the government, mabye bullets first! The judge is just voicing a distinct possibility.

                                            Wade:

                                            Just a small sample:

George Soros is financing the fight to give the United Nations control of your guns.

Through his Media Matters organization, Soros is dumping pro-UN gun control propaganda into the mainstream media to coincide with the United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty being held in New York July 2–27.

I have read the resalution and the UN wants every fire arm sold or currently own in the USA to be tracked. They want a list of ALL Gun Owners, Name Address etc... They also will make it so you can not buy bullets. But if you want to by a sling fior your gun, then that may be allowed. It's REAL... I wrote my Sen about it.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how a Republican with any common sense can read posts like yours and not want to run to their local elections office and demand to change their affiliation. How did your minds get so distorted and pickled? You must have been home-schooled in Texas!

I see only one recourse for you; find the most desolate place on earth, take all your looney friends with you, make sure you're all armed to the teeth, and then try to agree on ANYTHING, and especially a form of government that the majority of you would be willing to abide by. It would almost be certain that you would annihilate yourselves within the first year. It would only take that long because you'd first have to identify all the "conspirators" among you.

You and your ilk represent the greatest threat to freedom in this country than all others combined, internally or externally! You are truly nuts!
