Tropical storm Isaac passed through the warm waters of the Florida Straits to slam the Keys with intense winds and heavy rain. In Haiti, at least seven were killed. NBC's Al Roker reports.
Updated at 11:27 p.m. ET: As Isaac lashed south Florida on Sunday, the tropical storm threatened to make landfall later this week as a hurricane in New Orleans on the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s near destruction of that historic city.
Although the worst seems to have passed in Florida – a relief to Republicans planning their national convention – officials in Key West ordered visitors and residents to remain indoors as the storm moved through the island chain.
“You’ve chosen to remain in the Keys during this storm and the only safe place for you to be is indoors,” said Monroe County Emergency Management Director Irene Toner. “Stay off roads and don’t go outside.”
300-mile stretch of Gulf Coast on alert after 'huge storm' Isaac drenches Florida
As of 11 p.m. ET, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour, was about 75 miles west, southwest of Key West, moving west, northwest at 14 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Fla. said.
Isaac caused weekend havoc in Cuba, where it downed trees and power lines. Before that, Isaac was blamed for seven deaths in Haiti.
Forecasters warned that Isaac could be upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane – capable of sustained winds of 96-100 mph – as it hits the northern Gulf Coast somewhere between Florida and Louisiana later this week.
The governors of Mississippi and Louisiana declared a state of emergency as officials prepared for Isaac.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal urged residents in low-lying areas of several southeastern parishes to voluntarily leave ahead of the storm. He said mandatory evacuations would likely be ordered on Monday. The governor also activated 4,000 National Guard troops and informed other states that Louisiana might need assistance if hit by Isaac.
"We’re all going to err on the side of being overprepared," Jindal said. He added that he may skip his speaking engagement at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., this week if his state is still threatened by the storm.
In the city of New Orleans, which was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina seven years ago, Mayor Mitch Landrieu also declared a state of emergency. "I'll remind everybody that we thought Katrina would be a wind and rain event," Landrieu said.
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu declared a state of emergency in his city, warning residents to be prepared as the storm hurled toward hurricane status. NBC's Gabe Gutierrez reports.
"Residents should be frightened because we have issued a State of Emergency," Mississippi Gov. Bryant said. "However, I urge individuals and families to finalize their personal preparedness efforts. Review your family communication plan, make sure your emergency supply kit is fully stocked and know where you will go if you need to evacuate."
The National Hurricane Center on Sunday evening discontinued a hurricane warning for the Florida Keys and west coast of Florida, but issued a hurricane warning hurricane for the northern Gulf of Mexico coast from the New Orleans area to the Florida Panhandle.
In South Florida, three people were killed in two separate crashes due to wet roads, reported NBC News affiliate NBCMiami.com. The first crash involved a head-on collision, which killed both drivers, and in the second, the car plunged into a canal and the driver drowned, officials said.
Some minor flooding and power outages were reported in the Florida Keys but with the worst seemingly over, South Florida officials were relieved as Isaac shifted west. "We prepared for the worst and for us it's a relief," Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said, according to NBCMiami.com.
This storm will encounter a different New Orleans -- many homeless because of Hurricane Katrina. The storm will also test new gates and levees. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

Dr. Rick Knabb, director of the National Hurricane Center, said forecast models “can drive us nuts sometimes” but they play an important role for guidance.
“It’s still very uncertain where the center of Isaac will come ashore in its final landfall in the northern Gulf,” Knabb told the Weather Channel on Sunday, “and that can make all the difference as to who gets the strongest winds, who gets the strongest storm surge.
“Gradually, we’re seeing (Isaac’s) inner core develop. We’re certain it’s going to be a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico,” Knabb said.
Cancellations and shutdowns
The Republican Party said it would recess its national convention in Tampa for a day out of safety concerns as the storm bore down. Republicans, who will formally nominate Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate for the November election, will briefly convene their four-day meeting on Monday, then recess until Tuesday.
“When she storm passes and the sun comes out it’s going to be great to be in Tampa,” Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn said.
Isaac's path – whether west toward the Florida Panhandle or east toward New Orleans – is disputed by European and U.S. weather forecasting models. The Weather Channel's Bryan Norcross has more.

Gulf of Mexico oil operators braced for the first hurricane to affect the U.S. oil patch in 2012. Officials said the storm could shut down more than half of U.S. offshore oil output. Isaac's more westerly expected track brings it closer to the heart of the U.S. offshore oil patch, which produces about 23 percent of U.S. oil output and 7 percent of its natural gas output

Airlines are preparing for Isaac’s impact on Florida by waiving fees for changes and refunds for flights into and out of south Florida. Additionally, airlines on Sunday canceled most of south Florida operations.
Key West airports were closing Sunday night and most operations in and out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale were canceled until noon Monday, according to FlightAware.com. Airlines are not expecting long-term impact in Florida from the storm and should be operating normally by late Monday once airplanes, crew and staff are back in position.
More than 740 flights to, from and within the United States were canceled Sunday in preparation for Isaac, with the bulk of the cancellations at Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Meanwhile, the Sunday night performance of classic rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd at Tampa’s American Action Network Pavilion at Liberty Plaza was canceled over safety concerns.
Old hat for locals
Key West locals followed time-worn storm preparedness rituals while awaiting the storm.
On Saturday, a steady line of cars moved north along the Overseas Highway, the only road linking the Florida Keys. Residents boarded up windows, laid down sandbags and shuttered businesses ahead of the approaching storm. Even Duval Street, Key West's storied main drag, was subdued for a weekend, though not enough to stop music from playing or drinks from being poured.
"We'll just catch every place that's open," said Ted Lamarche, a 48-year-old pizzeria owner visiting Key West to celebrate his anniversary with his wife, Deanna. They walked along on Duval Street, where a smattering of people still wandered even as many storefronts were boarded up and tourists sported ponchos and yellow slickers.
"Category None!" one man shouted in a show of optimism.

The Keys were bracing for storm surges of up to four feet, strong winds and the possibility of tornadoes. The island chain's two airports closed Saturday night, and volunteers and some residents began filing into shelters.
"This is a huge inconvenience," said Dale Shelton, a 57-year-old retiree in Key West who was staying in a shelter.
The Associated Press, Reuters and NBC's Isolde Raftery contributed to this report.

Um, Isaac is not forecast to be a CAT 2 as it hits the Keys Sunday. The lead sentence of this story is 100% not true. It could be a CAT 2 down the road, but not as it hits the Keys today. The NHC calls for it to be a 70-75 MPH storm hitting they Keys. The correct intensity forecast can be found here:
This MS/NBC they have no idea what to report until the Obama administration tells them.
As Hank pointed out... Headline is FALSE! Stupid media!!!
What part of forecast do you not understand?
The headline , if it where a real liberal media would be "coward republicans afraid of getting wet! film at eleven"
Hank has it right. Sure hope people in the Keys are relying NOAA and not MSNBC. And, the center of the track is now off of the Florida panhandle, so even if it does reach Cat2 strength it may not even hit Florida after it hits the Keys as a TS.
Hey all of you Dems Repubs etc, are y'all Nucking Futz? This site thread is for the Hurricane information ideas not a public forum for my candidate is better than your candidate. Why are the majority of you posters acting like "Richard Craniums"? Not sure of that term? what is the nickname for Richard? What area is the Cranium located on the body? All of you that are posting political stuff go somewhere else please?
NBC, any chance on getting the political posters on another thread please?
I think O'bama is sending this to screw the convention! Lets not forget, this is a man that can lower the seas!
Strongly agree w/ Hank Empton.
Plus, do we really need to be pelted w/ info about this for a wEEk in advance of its having any significant effect on the U.S?
How about a report on all the planes that crash landed today, or, how much unregulatable contaminants are being poured into our water?
Snooky had a baby boy! I em excited! I hope she named it after her favorite drink. That would be cute!
Jack you are right! This thread is about the hurricane and the misinformation from MSNBC. However, it would be informative if you read all the political comments...they show the anger and hatred that is eating our country today. This is the type of anger that makes for mass shootings.
Shows you the power Microsoft has when the same people bash the news at this site repeatedly, yet keep coming back.
Tropical storms become hurricanes when they reach 74 mph sustained winds. Why 74? GOD=7_4, whereas, G is the 7th letter, a circle can be 15 or zerO and D is 4. 7/4=July 4th or 7 April 30 AD: Good(7__4) Friday when J10+E5+S19+U21+S19=74 the king(74) of the Judeans(74) - the Jewish(74) Messiah(74) - was on the C3+R18+O15+S19+S19=74. Assigning a number(74) to a letter is called Simple(6,74) English(7,74) Gematria(8,74) where words with similar sums have a connect(74) between(74) them. Y'shua(74)/Joshua(74)/IESVS(74) was born on 17/4/748 AUC (April 17, 6 BC).
Earth has 7 continents and 4 corners/4 seasons. ('7 seas' and) 4 oceans, 74% of the planet's surface is water. With the naked eye, the ancients could see 7 moving objects(74) in the heavens(74) and 4 don't cast shadows(74) on Earth. The lunar months(74) are 4 phases of 7 days (7.4 days). Lunar year + 7 day week + 4 days = solar year. Venus is .7 AU & Mercury .4 AU from the Sun. Besides Earth, this solar system has 7 planets & 4 trans-Neptunian dwarf planets. Saturn’s ‘4 seasons’ are each 7.4 years long. Human pregnancies are 40 weeks (7x40), etc.
~74% of the elemental mass of this universe is hydrogen. ~74% of everything in this universe is dark energy(74).
Now we see that GOD the Grand Architect of this Universe is real and why a T.S. becomes a hurri.(74) at 74 mph.
Issac will not hit Tampa, and won't affect the GOP convention. That is irrelevant. It's the gulf coast, once again, that is in the cross-hairs. These people (gulf residents) have seen enough and they know the dangers of where they live. Button down folks, and put on your Michelin suits! I hope it's just a windy rain shower!
J_P_Patches - Um - this is not a Microsoft site anymore - it's no longer MSNBC and hasn't been for a couple of weeks.
Yes, the media blasters do come back to this site and other news sites. Perhaps the powers that run these sites will actually read some of the comments and wake up to the fact that not everyone believes what they say or choose to report. We're not stupid (for the most part!!), have logic and can sift through the info they decide to feed us. We can make our own decisions and don't need the talking heads to make it for us. Unfortunately, too many smart people buy into it because they don't research other sources.
I don't buy into anything my local paper says. I know it for what it is. I have to dig deeper to find out what is really going on in my State.
Sorry, off point. This is now NBC news, not MSNBC !!!!!
I think God brought Isaac to express his displeasure with the Republican party. LOL.
Hey Jax, a TS in a the Gulf is no news, except at the local level. A TS in the Gulf during the GOP Convention is now titillating national news. The media hoping to grow this TS into a Cat 2 Hurricane during the GOP Convention is a ratings collector's wet dream (no pun intended). If you want to separate weather from politics on this one you might have to go stick your head in the sand on a beach on the Gulf, Jax, 'coz you're all wet (pun intended).
Ahhh, another Richard Cranium raises up out of the mire! Enjoy life as a Troll?
Brad Watson: If God is universal, he'd use SI units, not British. 74mph = 119km/h 11,9= KI = 1001
What happened in 1001? The Vikings discovered America (Leif E) and its the 11 th century. 2d millenium
Brad Watson Miami = 2,23,12 and if you add 2, 11 to 2 thats what you get! You are aware that hurricane is derived from God of Evil, so that must be what you are. Also, 2,23,13 the next number in sequence is 3 (2, 2+20+1,2+10+1, 2+0+1) which is C, as in: you are friggin Crayzeee!
people in New Orleans... all but one of the track models have Isaac hitting you before dawn Wed as a 2 or possibly even a 3.... its going to spool up fast over the next 24.... the entire situation has changed in the last 12 hours.
this has the potential to be another Katrina... get prepared now.... no joke.... right now.
Right about now the only people that God is PO'ed at is the dumba$$es making stoopid, asinine remarks. Can we all just STFU and be ready to help those people when the sh!t hits the fan. I have family living in Isaac's path.
I'm going to pray for their safety. Anyone care to join in?
Lesmax; I'm willing to bet more people linked to this story (as I did) from Microsofts Homepage than they did from NBC's Homepage. Last I saw, Hotmail is still accessible from NBC...most people get their news from the Homepage that has their e-mail account.
The bigger point being; why bother with a news source you don't like? But then, picking the weaker parts of someones post is very common here...it's called TROLLING.
I got all the information I wanted on this story...no reason to nit-pik it IMO.
Brad Watson, Miami - although reading your comments were amusing, I believe you suffer from "paralysis of analysis." Talk about over-thinking something and coming to an odd conclusion for the existence of God! Thankfully, Jesus is MUCH easier to find than going through all of your numbers. lol
According to the model here, it appears that Isaac is headed straight into the Mississippi coast and not New Orleans, yet the article says New Orleans prepares. It this gonna be anothe of those poor poor people of New Orleans and screw the Mississippi gulf coast, even if they get hit the hardest. Damn black.s
Regardless of your political beliefs...I hope the nice people in New Orleans are smart enough to leave this time.
KORNFED
OBAMA sent in help in case we had a serious problem in FLORIDA...YOU need to get your head out of your A$$.. try posting facts.. emergency assistance has also been sent to all the states on the gulf..
had I been the president I would have thumbed my nose at the administrations in all of those states.. since they show nothing but comtempt for the POTUS
I just hope everyone is safe. Watch the weather reports, and if you are told to evacuate, don't delay.
BRAD ..have you seen god, have you seen jesus.. if not the hocus pocus you have going with all those numbers is a joke,,, I suggest that you go to netflix and watch a movie titled "theisGeist and rethink your process...
Interesting. The atheist wants proof of God. Well, how's about proving there isn't a God or gods. You don't know diddly for a fact and yet you act as though you have the final proof. Rather sad. So, instead of God you worship....Obama?
Mygirl1, hello, you cannot prove a negative! That's basic logic and fundamental intelligence. In addition, the person promoting the extraordinary claim (supernatural existence of God) has to prove it, not the person not promoting the extraordinary claim. Assuming your conclusion is circular thinking, and you seem to be very confused about all of this.
Nobody worships Obama. But it does seem that a lot of dittoheads who worship Rush Limbaugh and listened to his recent radio show are going to have egg on their faces again. (Limbaugh said, "The National Hurricane Center is Obama. The National Weather Service is part of the Commerce Department. It is Obama...They are talking about this Hurricane Isaac thing. We, who live in south Florida, become experts on it, and we don’t need the National Hurricane Center — we don’t need all these weather dolts analyzing this for us.")
Well, good luck with "God."
George, can't think up another line? How many time you going to post the same one? Ever hear of electrical shock? Moron.
I think Kornfed wins this round with his post.
God's wrath for republican denial of man made global warming. God will destroy the repukes just like he did Sodom and Gomorrah. God will not allow the repukes to screw the whole country over just to serve their own greed.
Nope, not going to happen. The deadbeats are going to stick it out. Just like last time, they don't want to miss their welfare checks or miss another chance to loot the city.
Bush is pulling it over to New Orleans, O'bama is pulling it towards the Republican convention....It is an epic battle! Could Bush's hatred for black people and Cajun food boost his resolve over O'bama's hatred for rich Republicans? It is a swing state! I predict that O'bama comes to his senses and realizes he needs Florida votes and releases his grip...perhaps too late for Bush to pull it all the way over to NO, it falls short. Look out Mississippi!
No excuses this time. Don't blame it on anybody else like you did when Katrina wiped you out. If it heads your way NOLA, GET OUT. Zathrose--as bracingly blunt as you are, I almost have to agree, except too many came to Houston and bit the hand that fed, clothed, and housed them.
Comment # 1 deleted, political derail.
The computer models currently have this thing pegged to plow through the gulf oil producing platforms and hit the LOOP port head on as a cat 3, The GOM produces 25% of the nations domestic oil and the LOOP handles 15% of the nations foreign oil imports. If the forecasts come to pass be prepared for a major oil shock.
Aussie Rob, you must be getting your information from the same source as the guy who wrote the headline.
So your saying that God is angry at oil companies too? Can't blame him for that. lol Weather it is a severe warning from the lord or a mild one, I hope you republicans take note.
Look again. The models show it just reaching category 2 (as of the 12 pm GMT forecast) when it makes landfall.
Both the ECMWF and GFS models have cat 2-3 hurricanes land falling just west of NOLA on their latest runs.
C
Yes I'm sure gas prices will go up...if a bug farts the gas prices go up,if it rains gas prices go up, winds blows, sun sines, ect. ect.its total BS
Because cutting ~20% of the US oil supply is not at all significant.
I live down here in Florida and know from experience whose forecast to watch....I'll stick with The National Hurricane Center and NOAA that use all tracks to make a prediction.
If you look at their models it doesn't hit Florida at all but goes through the Gulf. They may gt lots of rain but so far it isn't even a hurricane yet.
The NHC have now shifted their track to just east of NOLA almost exactly Katrinas landfall, but the models are gradually shifting west with each run and the NHC track is lagging but also gradually shifting westward. It is likely that trend will continue which is why I expect a landfall just west of NOLA but time will tell.
AussieRob you actually know some of the key models names and are aware enough to know that the latest runs have ALL shifted west except for the GFDL which was west yesterday, but shifted east to the FL panhandle last night. The NHC of NOAA can't afford to panic people and lose creditability so are slowly upping the ante...Hey all you politicos who do not know jackscmidt about meteorolgy, go ahead keep on bashing the guy. Nothing like a bunch of ignorant buffoons gaffawing at someone who actually has a clue. The forecast track may well change again, but some of the models like the CMC, HWRF and the GFS depict a very serious situation, much more so than for the Keys or S. FL, on the AL-LA coast Wednesday. Almost 7 years to the day after the infamous Katrina.
Ohh-Ahhh, It's Gods wrath, it going to cut off oil production, IT'S THE END OF THE FREAKING WORLD!!!!
Over react much?
It's a weak Cat 2 (maybe) hurricane, big whoop. They've only been happening since this rock formed an atmosphere about 8 billion years ago. I know some like to say it's because of climate change, or global warming if you prefer,,,, they're becoming more intense, well guess what? If you dolts would look at the true history of this planet you would see that this temperate lull we have been living in, is the exception not the normal. The last Ice age ended only 25,000 years ago. Before that the center of the continent was an inland sea. And before that another ice age, etc, etc.
It's all happened before and will all happen again. No matter what your neo-religious, pseudo- scientologist's tell you. And surprise, surprise, the vast majority of that history and climate change cycles happened absent humans and fossil fuels, Holy AL Gore how can that be? Seeing a pattern here?, anyone?
Has no one else noticed the direct correlation between CO2 build up and deforestation of the planet? Gee, you remove billions of trees that convert CO2 to Oxygen and you are surprised CO2 begins to accumulate? Your science is that thick or are they simply forwarding an agenda. "All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the correct one", Sound familiar to any of you? No? What a surprised. As for Methane,, naturally occurring, always been here, always will be and Water Vapor?!? really?, it's it condensed atmospheric form it's called CLOUDS!!!! Yes, my brainwashed Brahmin friends, It's the end of the world.
if Romney wins you will get the shock anyway. If the party of pigotry wins expect the min. wage to go down.
@ maryp, ummmmm, hurricanes can intensify from the warm waters of the gulf. Models are just that, models. Isaac could make landfall as a lot of rain or a fullblown Cat 5. My wife grew up in Florida. She'll be the first to tell you that a hurricane is not be messed with, or trivialized.
Nicodemus, I bring up the NHC forecast and a range of computer modelling suites, you bring up god, global warming, the ice age, Al Gore, deforestation, CO2, methane, water vapour, brainwashing and the end of the world. And you think I'm over reacting?
Corp -
Katrina hit on August 29, 2005; so it is exactly the 7-year anniversary of the storm. There is no 'almost' about it. Luckily, it will be no-where near as strong as Katrina, though we will have to batten down the hatches.
Katrina made landfall as a CAT 3, with 125 MPW. This is a great test for the engineers who designed and built the levees in New Orleans.
Source. I can't embed websites, but you can google Katrina Strength.
Morriss -
Actually, Katrina hit Plaquemines Parish as a Cat 4 - Broken wind-birds at Venice were pegged out at much better than 200 mph winds. Sustained winds were clocked at Cat 4 level. The feds did not want to admit that it was that strong a storm, but the levees along the Mississippi river downriver of Venice were totally washed out - something a Cat 3 storm would not have been able to do.
AussieRob;
Clearly, sarcasm is lost on you.
Every hurricane season since Katrina has been this pronunciation of doom every time one forms. Please. If it make hurricane strength, it won't be the next Katrina. unless is sits out in the gulf for a week building. The NHC, NOAA, NWS are all guessing anyway.
I'm so glad we have the omnipotent nicodemus here to enlighten us with his prophecies. The thing is you weren't actually being sarcastic when you said that those warning of the risks were over reacting. I'd take the NHC, NOAA and NWS forecasts over yours any day of the week. I'd also rather evacuate and be inconvenienced for a few days then stay and take the risk a hurricane making a beeline for a city which is situated 8 feet below sea level won't rapidly intensify.
I find it amusing that, even though NOAA and National Hurricane forecast this hurricane heading West to New Orleans, the editors of this article see it another way - and I quote:
"Isaac's path – whether west toward the Florida Panhandle or east toward New Orleans..." Geography IS, apparently, not a subject required much of editors and journalists. Sorry, couldn't resist this one!!
Now back to the important stuff - please be careful if you find yourself in the path of this storm, and act wisely!
Okay Aussie rob, have it your way. As for my "Prophecies", call it what you will. As I said sarcasm is clearly lost on you. Grow a since of humor, why don't you? By all means, run and hide every time the weather man says the sky is falling. There's plenty of time left in this hurricane season for a big one, it's just getting started. Don't be so anxious to see death and destruction.
As to N.O's being below sea level, well, seems the French designers didn't really think that one through. But then, they are odd that way, Consider the La Car. A huge success that was.
Wow, what a brain dead article. First, they are not showing the latest forecast track from the NHC which is more to the west, 2nd it's not even likely to be a hurricane when it hits the keys. Hype much?
Brain dead or not, the girly men of the GOP are running away. The headline , if it where areal liberal media would be "coward republicans afraid of getting wet! film at eleven"
george,
You are a tool and a troll. Turning any discussion towards politics shows what a dullard you are.
Liars...poor pathetic George has nothing of substance to say.
anything of "substance" i could say would be way above your head. simple questions would prove your ignorance. do you really want to go there? stay safe by staying out of adult conversations. But no worries, when you meet your creator, he will explain it all, and you will be embarrassed before the lord.
What's the problem George? you sound like you are at war with the whole damn world: you're the one divaguing about the issues! Be civil, and make your point ,as a gentleman or shut-up; or go beat up on your "partner", if anybody can live with you! LOL...
George, that is the third time that you posted the same line, yet YOU speak of ignorance? You sound kind of like a religious zealot. A lot like one.
Do you Reporters ever read what you have written? You count on 'spell check' too much. Please read the articles or have someone proof read them before you post them on line. Thank you.
As Michelle Bachman would say ... this is God, sending a message to the Republicans! Now let's see what God has to say in Charlotte in a couple of weeks. Gotta like that God fella. :o)
Sarah,
I doubt you believe in anything but trolling to post your BS rhetoric.
Jack, the weather is boring. I have an obligation to try to reach the hateful right and teach them some basic civility and even some civics, this is a perfect forum. but thanks for trying to protect the rain.
and another Richard Cranium raises out of the mire. Enjoy life as a Troll?
Everybody is on except Jack from Jax. Jack's off.
Sarah
I guess if there are Trolls, there must be Trollettes too. Otherwise, the species would never survive. Sure hope you don't eat with that mouth, but I bet you sleep with your hands under the covers! Get a Life Trollette.
@sarah:
the only God you seem to know is the pic on a $5 bill that you hope to pick up from the sidewalk...i could tell you plenty about how the libs are screwing up this country, but I am too socially groomed to puclicly use the kind of verbiage that truth requires in that instance...
Geraleve .. ignorance impresses me and you are impressive! You know what's wrong with Washington? What's wrong with Washington is voters like you. You and your socially groomed public attitudes and your use of words like "libs" give it all away. The only ones running for President are throwing lies and exaggerations around hoping to get your vote at any cost and one of them will! You're pitiful! Why aren't you smart enough to be asking questions like "Obama, why didn't you stop lobbying like you promised?" or "Romney, why are you not releasing your income tax returns?" If people like you were asking intelligent questions and making the candidates fess up, we might get a President that's worth something, not some liar or crook! Libs indeed .. what an idiot!
Oh New Orleans is preparing? Guess they learned a lesson. I guess every time a hurricane comes along, we have to hear about New Orleans. Sick of hearing about New Orleans. Drag out the FEMA trailers!!!!!!
It was Joe Biden that was the idiot that cancelled his trip the other day. What do you call an entire convention?
of course he postponed his trip. he finally realized that with a GOP convention the place would smell like............
...smell like george?
Joe Biteme was just too stupid to find Tampa. But Dems are going to be jumping with glee if Republicans are forced to cancel the convention. They already have lost a day.
Well at least now I know why gasoline and fuel prices at the pump jumped fifteen to twenty cents per gallon yesterday between 7:00 AM and 7:15 AM!
This is why I truly hate the Wall Street speculators.
Wall street speculators? isn't that what Romney did for a living?
What would Pat Robertson say about this? Does it look like a fetus? Hmmm.
Where did this story come from?? It's starting to come across the keys now, with 27 mph winds. It has the possibility to become a Cat 2 before landing between New Orleans and Mobile; but this storm is still asymetrical and has unpredictable qualities. So, this story is SO INACCURATE!!
Florida has NEVER had hurricanes until global warming began. Just ask Al Gore. He would never lie!
Al Gore said that he built the first hurricane....
and Barry Soetoro claims that the government built it
If that hurricane touches a road mother nature didn't build that . it had help......
Question: Why do not people listen to storm warnings anymore?
Answer: Because of all the Media Hype to generate a story out of a non event. Criminal.
Romp is running for office, but his wife does most of the talking! What's wrong with that, and his wife looks good, but suffering with health problems expecially stress makers her suffer a lot more in pain. You would think a guy like this wouldn't even run. One ya, he's the guy that also put his dog on the roof of his car a drove 60 miles for hour hours on end and thought he was being kind to the dog! The dog was violently sick, with stool flowing down over the windows. They finally stopped and washed the car, I'didn't see what they did with the dog after that, if it survived at all!
Troll.
Retard
How did...why flows through that little mind of yours to make this stuff up? Or were you in the car?
Can we all hold hands and say " MAGIC UNDER PANTS" run Joe Smith Run!
you can laugh now, but when god comes down from kabul with the latter day saints in tow you better be wearing your magic underwear or the mormon god will ban you from wall street.
I'm getting really tired of all the sloppy writing I'm finding online.
"Isaac drew new strength early Sunday during a warm-water crossing of the Florida Straits after it down downed trees and power lines in Cuba and left at least seven dead earlier in Haiti."
----After it down downed?
"At least seven were killed in Haiti, Marie Alta Jean-Baptiste, Director of Haiti's Civil Protection Office told NBC News The dead included a 10-year-old girl who had a wall fall on her."
---- No period between sentences and I'm wondering just what the 10-year-old girl did to have a wall fall on her.
"Forecasters said a hurricane hunter plane found the top sustained winds had increased from about 60 mph (95 kph) just houts earlier."
---- Just "houts" earlier huh?
How can we trust your facts (and according to some of the comments we can't) if you can't even be bothered to get your grammar and spelling correct?
they where in a hurry to get another thread out for the liberals to rant on....
You do realize that it young liberal interns that write up these articles. They have only gone to community colleges and had to take bonehead english, but didn't learn to proofread in the process.
Shannon...NEVER, EVER trust any information from the clowns at NBC and MSNBC.
Please don't criticize the posting girls here at nbcnews.com. They are not journalist. Their job is to make postings to spur debate and they do a great job. They are not suppose to report the news. That is handled by professional journalist. The girls do a great job.
Most people don't realize these young ladies do not do this for money. They are young volunteers learning about the news industry and preparing themselves for high school. It does a lot to build their self esteem.
Well, Don, interns are there to learn so exactly who is teaching and overseeing them? Per your statement, they are preparing themselves for high school (???????). Really? You have 14 yr. olds on staff? I think you mean college. I've worked with interns, all of college age. Anyone who has worked with interns double checks their work until both the "boss" and the "intern" are comfortable with the end product.
BTW - there are a few mistakes in your own post.
Wait, let me guess, your that ewglish teacher i had in seventh grade who picked on me for bad speling?
@lesmax,
I meant high school. These are Jr. high girls. These girls will never be cheerleaders. So we use them to find posts that will create controversy. This site is great at starting debate with catty comments. They just have a sense of finding the right way to dig at our readers and get them upset. Nobody does that better than a 14 year old girl. They can take any story and twist it to hide the true meaning of the event. The best part is that they don't have to be too well informed.
Maybe you haven't noticed. We have attempted to keep this our secret but the word has been getting out. People reading our stories are starting to recognize our style.
We planned on using some professional journalist to proof our stories before we posted them but, well, we just don't have any.
We tried to get some people from this web site to proof them. The people that complained about such errors, but they didn't work out. They enjoyed complaining but never offered and intelligent solutions. They were very self-righteous, opinionated and nobody wanted to work with them. Most of them were also overweight and unattractive. We may give that another shot. Would you be interested?
did they cancel the first day or not mstafffrmrl? your friends? Did they cancel? Blame it on Oboma
Really? I guess anybody can get a job with the liberal media apparently they have hired someone isolated in a box with no internet connection. This is the kind of irresponsible "journalism" that causes so many problems in these scenerios. I guess NBC is becoming the TASS of the United States.
hey, im looking at the classified section of the Sunday times and there are 50k jobs in here at least. Isn't that what the republicans said when John Kerry said unemployment was too high? yes they did. Get some salt and pepper and eat those words butt brain lol
Republican TeaBilly Conservatives are just like a “Category 5 Hurricane”. They are a Major Disaster, Cause Fear, Panic, Chaos, Misery and Destroy anything good in their Paths.
Obviiously, you have been asleep the past four years because the Obama administration has done more damage to America than any other administration in history. Being blind to the fact that the Democratic Party's platform is immoral and counter American will not help this country return to its greatness. Voting out Obama, who I refer to as our traitor-in-chief, will be a good step.
That's because your a idiot....the last 4 years the GOP has blocked everything this president has tried to do..you have no job ? don't Blame President Obama blame it on the GOP, the( Grand Old Obstructionist) party and blame your self's your the idiots that voted in all these right wingers and tea baggies in 2010 to get control so wheres the JOBS and the amazing thing is you Idiots want to put Mittins in office? How can you all be that stupid?? Amazing
USMALE,Republicans do not care about the country, they only care who can hate Obama more. Even it it means collapsing the economy. They are blinded by hate.
USMALE, you keep forgetting that the dems controlled both houses of congress. The first 2 years of Obama the GOP could not block or stop anything. Obama promised to close gitmo in his first year, it's still open. Obama promised to cut the debt in half, instead he doubled it. Pull your head out of the sand.
Republicans just hate America for it's freedom. Just like the other republics, china, Russia, north Korea, Cuba, Iran, ahhhhh that's why the Romney people want us to be a republic, I get it now.
@george pauljohn. Did you take history in school? The US is a republic it has been for over 200 years.
@usmale,
The Constitution of the US. was written so that opposition could obstruct radical ideas and ideology. They did that to limit the power of the government. That is why the electorate voted overwhelmingly for republicans in the mid-term elections.
Compromise is good when there is something to compromise about.
Liberals cry "Obstruction" every time they don't get everything that they want.
You can't compromise with Obama. He won't even talk with the republicans.
Liberals, please stop the name calling and use intelligent arguments.
Intelligent! Like not knowing that America is a republic with a republican form of government. See, now that is just not intelligent.
Start by checking the definitions of republican form of government vs democratic.
George johnpaul, Why don't you just jump up and yell, "Hey I am really stupid"?
Twisted truth, name calling, crying... now that is the democratic playbook.
The Democratic party must be for democracy
Republican parties must be for republics.
The Green party must be all green people.
You must be bald to be a member of the Whig party.
You have to share your phone with a neighbor if you have a Party line
Do you get divorced to join the Independent party?
Somebody explain these jokes to George johnpaul.
Only women having a baby can be in the Labor party.
I can't tell you about the Bull Moose party.
You can barrow books from the Libertarian party
Don 377741
Way to send some humor into the thread that is supposed to be commenting on the Trp Storm/Hurricane Isaac! All the folks that have something to say about politics really cannot be too bright showing the pseudo-intelligence on this comment line. Can't wait til the "Silly Season" (politics) is over. Then we still have another month of Storm Season!
jack from Jax
You sick bastard.
You want me to make jokes about this terrible storm? Where is your decency man. I refuse to joke about these people that will be facing this storm. How inhumane.
Typical Liberal.
This is Gawd's Response to da Republican TeaBilly Conservative Whackjobs "War on Women".
You BetCha.....Fer Sure.
Ladies and gentlemen. I present to you:
The biggest troll of them all.
You're quite the troll yourself Liar...good name for you...yabetcha
What does You BetCha.....Fer Sure mean? I guess that is supposed to be a liberal joke. What a bunch of hypocritical trash you are.
@jstdafacts
Hey man your good. You should be a speaker for the Democratic party. Do you work in public relations?
I just changed from being a conservative republican to a liberal democrat because of the great insights offered by jstdafacts.
He is so damn convincing.
I find his humor to be so wonderful.
Yes, Issac might be forecast to hit Florida as a Cat 2 hurricane but not the Keys... the Panhandle. Does MSNBC ever check their facts before they write their articles? I already know the answer to that. I think the National Enquirer has more credibility than the inept journalism displayed at MSNBC!
If it hits lower Florida as a Cat 2, then swings out into the open waters of the warm Gulf, it could very well become a Cat 3 by the time it hits the Panhandle. I have family there, and they are watching this closely. Keeping all Floridians and Gulf coast residents in my prayers.
Isaac hasn't even reached a Category 1 in strength yet and it has already gone past the Keys. It would have to seriously loop around to do so now.
did the convention cancel the first day or not? like a bunch of sissys?
The democrats canceled the first day of their convention also. The dems couldn't find a building to rent for the first day. What a bunch of retards.
they are not SISSYS. They are GIRLY MEN, LOL get it right lol waa waaa waaa obama is being mean to us waaa waaa waaaa the rain is falling the rain is falling lol. Have you ever heard a single candidate complain so much? im 60 years old and have never heard such a pansy in politics ever. What's Romney going to do when he has to face Iran, tell his mommy? call them names? or sell them a 401k? Even that republican who got caught giving sex acts to his fellow man didn't whine as much.
@ gpj
Your 60? You sound like a sophmore in High School. Such intelligent postings.
Damn quit name calling like a Jr. High Girl! Say something intelligent.
When a liberal begins calling other names, check to see if they are describing themselves.
Don
gpj may have been an original student of Saul Alinsky - you know, the Chicago Socialist that persuaded and convinced BO about how to do Community Organizing the Marxist way. His and BO/DNC philosophy is if tou cannot attack the message, then by all that is powerful attack the messenger.
Before you ALL lose your minds... It wasn't just MSNBC who posted this article (which was published by the Associated Press), FOX News also reported it, so looks like both media sources jumped to get the false info out.... the name calling is really juvenile. Instead of fighting in blogs, go out in your community and help your neighbors. Try to restore some semblance of humanity for your children's sakes.
You Liberal creeps look for ANYTHING to post your hate. The story is about a storm. Go back under your rocks now.
When we call you guys haters we mean the way you hate gays, minorities, muslims, poor people, anyone who is different from you. The only hate you can pin on us is our hatred of YOU, the extremist, radical, bigotted, treasonous righties, and we wear that hate like a badge of honor. Get a clue...
Actually Iv'e seen alot of your post leroy and you are one of the biggest racist on NBC chat boards.
Michigan, get a job you lazy rightie!
Got a job. end of month almost here you can get your check.
Seems to me there are many more conservatives doing the name calling and using their foul mouths the most here !!Liberals , just in case you forgot are the more educated and intelligent of the American voters !!
Proof is in the Pudding Johm1308966 Hope all quit these childish games - they sure are not productive.
All the rocks are taken by the Republicans. No more room.
lol u mad bro? your the party who invented the swift boat liars and put purple hearts on band-aids making fun of every wounded vet in history and you call us "haters? REALLY? LOL
@leroy brown
When a liberal begins calling someone names, check to see if it describes themselves.
You sound like such a child. example "No sir, your are haters not us. We don't hate, you do, We only hate Christians, and tax payers, and fatso types, and poopies, and and people that don't agree with us. So, shut up stupid."
The postings by the liberals are getting worse and worse with poor arguments and childish name calling.
Please grow up. Not a single good argument from liberals on this web site. None.
These are the types of people that are voting for Obama. I am worried about our country.
I think it is a good display of ignorance when an inaccurate weather report is followed up by wacked out political nonsense. The projected path looks like it could effect oil production and possible cause damage to Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. It is nice that we get some religious drivel thrown in. Hopefully hurricanes in the Gulf will churn the water enough disturb the dead zones enough to re-oxygenate the water to allow for plant and animal life. On the other hand hurricanes could force salt water further inland because of the loss of natural barriers due to development, oil refineries and transportation and also the influx of nitrogen from fertilizers washed into the water systems that empty into the Gulf from the increase in the growing of corn for the production of ethanol. So go ahead and cling to your guy in the sky and my political party is less worse than yours.
I guess God is warning us not to vote for Romney and the Republicans. The convention happening at the same time as a hurricane hits. Some coincidence!
